ABSTRACT
OBJECTIVE: In postmenopausal period, changes in bone turnover markers (BTM), vitamin D3, cytokines and parathyroid hormone (PTH) are frequently observed. The study was to assess bone mineral density (BMD) and bone metabolism index (IBM) in the perimenopausal women. DESIGN YEARS: 2013-2014. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: One hundred and thirteen women were divided into four groups: group I (35 not menstruating 50 - 60 years old with osteoporosis), II (23 not menstruating 50 - 60 years old without osteoporosis), III (30 menstruating 40 - 49 years old with osteoporosis), IV (25 menstruating 40 - 49 years old without osteoporosis). The following parameters were measured: IL-1ß, IL-6, TNF-α, hormone oestradiol (E2), PTH, FSH, TSH, calcium (Ca2+), phosphates (P), alkaline phosphatase (bALP), C-terminal telopeptide of type I collagen alpha 1 chain (α1CTX), osteocalcin (OC), BMD, IBM. RESULTS: IBM and BMD were significantly lower in premenopausal than in postmenopausal women. The concentration of OC, CTX, 25OH D3 and PTH levels differed significantly between group I vs. II, group I vs. III and group II vs. IV. CONCLUSIONS: The levels of BTM, D3, PTH differed significantly between groups. This study demonstrated that bone metabolism depended mainly on processes related with menopause state and changes in D3, PTH and cytokines levels.
ABSTRACT
Factors isolated from human PMNL lysosomes granules enhance the immune response of BALB/c mice immunized with SRBC, augment allogeneic DTH reaction and accelerate skin graft rejection. The immunostimulatory effects does not depend only on proteolytic enzymes. Removal of proteolytic enzymes using DFP as irreversible inactivator did not alter the immunostimulatory effect of PMNL lysosome factors on PFC formation in mice. The PMNL factors have marked potentiating effect on the uptake and retention of labeled CRBC in mouse lymphoid system. This effect suggests an alternative pathway which can provide chronic immunological stimulus and play a significant role in augmentation of immune response. Data presented in this paper suggest that factors responsible for augmentation of the immune response are localized mostly in secondary PMNL granules.

The authors report the application of myeloscintigraphy in a case of intradural leptomeningeal cyst. Only 16 such cases have been described as yet in world literature. Myeloscintigraphy was found in this case a more objective and accurate method than myelography and permitted not only the compressing mass to be recognized but it determined also the upper and lower limits of the mass which is important for surgical intervention.

The effect of experimental anaemia induced by phlebotomy and the effect of infusion of various fluids on the 2,3-DPG, ATP and total organic phosphate (Porg) concentration were examined in the red cells of beagles made anaemic by withdrawal of 30% of the circulating blood. Particular groups of dogs 30 min after phlebotomy were infused with own blood, blood with inosine, pyruvate and phosphate (IPP), Fluigel and Fluigel with IPP. The changes were most distinct in dogs which were not infused with any fluid. After 24 hours the content of 2,3-DPG, ATP and Porg increased by 17, 27 and 20%, respectively, in comparison with the results obtained before blood loss. Twenty-four hours following the reinfusion of own blood, a slight increase occurred in the 2,3-DPG and Porg content. Infusion of Fluigel caused a decrease of the phosphate compounds concentration after 3 and 6 hours and then the concentration almost returned to normal. Infusion of own blood as well as Fluigel enriched with inosine, pyruvate and phosphate did not lead to any change in 2,3-DPG concentration. The red cells of dogs do not utilize inosine for 2,3-DPG or nucleotide synthesis. The increased cardiac output seems to the main mechanism for oxygen transport to tissues after an acute haemorrhage.

UNLABELLED: The aim of the study was to compare the perfusion scintigraphy (using SPECT method with Tc-99-MIBI) during left atrial transoesophageal pacing test (LAPT) with pacing electrocardiography (ECG), echocardiography (ECHO) and electrocardiography exercise test (ExT) in ischaemic heart disease (IHD) diagnostics. The effect of LATP on heart haemodynamic parameters and the correlation between scintigraphic, echocardiographic and electrocardiographic parameters during LAPT test have been also assessed. Investigations were carried out in 55 subjects (Group I: 36 patients with effort angina pectoris; group II: controls: 19 clinically healthy subjects). Coronarography was performed in 24 patients 6 weeks before or after examinations. LATP test was analyzed with ECG, ECHO and SPECT. Echocardiography did not increase significantly the LATP test diagnostic value. Perfusion scintigraphy enhanced sensitivity and predictive excluding value LATP test. These values were 93.3% v 62.9% and 90% v 59.3% respectively. LATP test assessed with ECG, ECHO and perfusion scintigraphy expressed significantly higher sensitivity and predicting excluding value in comparison to ExT. LATP test analyzed in such way was characterized by 100% sensitivity and 100% predicting excluding value. CONCLUSION: Combination of LATP with electrocardiography, echocardiography and SPECT is a non-invasive high quality method for ischaemic heart disease diagnostics.
