ABSTRACT

Congenital cataracts are the leading cause of irreversible visual disability in children, and genetic factors play an important role in their development. In this study, targeted exome sequencing revealed a novel single-base deletional mutation of MIP (c.301delG; p.Ala101Profs*16) segregated with congenital punctate cataract in a Chinese family. The hydrophobic properties, and secondary and tertiary structures for truncated MIP were predicted to affect the function of protein by bioinformatics analysis. When MIP-WT and MIP-Ala101fs expression constructs were singly transfected into HeLa cells, it was found that the mRNA level showed no significant difference, while the protein level of the mutant was remarkably reduced compared to that of the wild-type MIP. Immunofluorescence images showed that the MIP-WT was principally localized to the plasma membrane, whereas the MIP-Ala101fs protein was aberrantly trapped in the cytoplasm. Furthermore, the cell-to-cell adhesion capability and the cell-to-cell communication property were both significantly reduced for MIP-Ala101fs compared to the MIP-WT (all *p < 0.05). This is the first report of the c.301delG mutation in the MIP gene associated with autosomal dominant congenital cataracts. We propose that the cataract is caused by the decreased protein expression and reduced cell-to-cell adhesion by the mutant MIP. The impaired trafficking or instability of the mutant protein, as well as compromised intercellular communication is probably a concurrent result of the mutation. The results expand the genetic and phenotypic spectra of MIP and help to better understand the molecular basis of congenital cataracts.

ABSTRACT

Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a rare neuromuscular disease, which is characterized by the degeneration of motor neurons, leading to symmetrical muscle weakness and atrophy. Description of two novel SMN1 mutations (patient1: c.683T > A, p.Leu228Ter; patient2: c.347 T > C, p.Ile116 Thr). We reported two patients with SMN1 mutations with the clinical features, and provided a literature review of the previously reported 22 cases. Two SMA patients showed progressive proximal lower limb weakness and milder clinical symptom. In a total of 22 cases, the most commonly observed SMN1 gene alteration was missense mutation (55%), followed by splicing defect (27%), nonsense (9%) and frameshift (9%). We discuss the possible decisive role of these intragenic mutations in the phenotypic results, which enriched the SMN 1 fine mutation database.

ABSTRACT

The emerging transition metal-nitrogen-carbon (MNC) materials are considered as a promising oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalyst system to substitute expensive Pt/C catalysts due to their high surface area and potential high catalytic activity. However, MNC catalysts are easy to be attacked by the ORR byproducts that easily lead to the deactivation of metal active sites. Moreover, a high metal loading affects the mass transfer and stability, but a low loading delivers inferior catalytic activity. Here, a new strategy of designing ZrO2 quantum dots and N-complex as dual chemical ligands in N-doped bubble-like porous carbon nanofibers (N-BPCNFs) to stabilize copper (Cu) by forming CuZrO3-x /ZrO2 heterostructures and CuN ligands with a high loading of 40.5 wt.% is reported. While the highly porous architecture design of N-BPCNFs builds a large solidelectrolytegas phase interface and promotes mass transfer. The preliminary results show that the half-wave potential of the catalyst reaches 0.856 V, and only decreases 0.026 V after 10 000 cycles, exhibiting excellent stability. The proposed strategy of stabilizing metal active sites with both heterostructures and CuN ligands is feasible and scalable for developing high metal loading ORR catalyst.

ABSTRACT

Efficient enhancement of harmonic brightness near the cutoff region is achieved by employing laser pulses with a small positive chirp in theory, where the laser intensity and frequency near the peak of the laser pulse are almost unchanged relative to the chirp-free field. The improvement of harmonic brightness is achieved under the condition that the ionization probability is almost unchanged. Through the analysis of the harmonics contributed by the rising and falling parts of the laser pulse, we have uncovered a "frequency compensation" mechanism that leads to an enhanced harmonic brightness near the cutoff region. Under appropriate chirp parameters, the harmonics contributed by the rising and falling parts can be constructively interfered in a smaller frequency range with greater intensity, thereby obtaining harmonics with good monochromaticity and high brightness. This study explains the mechanism of harmonic brightness enhancement from a new perspective, and provides a new idea for harmonic regulation without changing the ionization.

BACKGROUND: Pyroptosis is crucial for controlling various immune cells. However, the role of allergen-induced CD11c + dendritic cell (DC) pyroptosis in allergic rhinitis (AR) remains unclear. METHODS: Mice were grouped into the control group, AR group and necrosulfonamide-treated AR group (AR + NSA group). The allergic symptom scores, OVA-sIgE titres, serum IL-1ß/IL-18 levels, histopathological characteristics and T-helper cell-related cytokines were evaluated. CD11c/GSDMD-N-positive cells were examined by immunofluorescence analysis. Murine CD11c + bone marrow-derived DCs (BMDCs) were induced in vitro, stimulated with OVA/HDM, treated with necrosulfonamide (NSA), and further cocultured with lymphocytes to assess BMDC function. An adoptive transfer murine model was used to study the role of BMDC pyroptosis in allergic rhinitis. RESULTS: Inhibiting GSDMD-N-mediated pyroptosis markedly protected against Th1/Th2/Th17 imbalance and alleviated inflammatory responses in the AR model. GSDMD-N was mainly coexpressed with CD11c (a DC marker) in AR mice. In vitro, OVA/HDM stimulation increased pyroptotic morphological abnormalities and increased the expression of pyroptosis-related proteins in a dose-dependent manner; moreover, inhibiting pyroptosis significantly decreased pyroptotic morphology and NLRP3, C-Caspase1 and GSDMD-N expression. In addition, OVA-induced BMDC pyroptosis affected CD4 + T-cell differentiation and related cytokine levels, leading to Th1/Th2/Th17 cell imbalance. However, the Th1/Th2/Th17 cell immune imbalance was significantly reversed by NSA. Adoptive transfer of OVA-loaded BMDCs promoted allergic inflammation, while the administration of NSA to OVA-loaded BMDCs significantly reduced AR inflammation. CONCLUSION: Allergen-induced dendritic cell pyroptosis promotes the development of allergic rhinitis through GSDMD-N-mediated pyroptosis, which provides a clue to allergic disease interventions. ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: The goal of this research was to review the literature from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on the impacts of moxibustion on cancer-related fatigue (CRF) as well as provide credible evidence to guide clinical practice. METHODS: Three English electronic medical databases (PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library) and two Chinese databases (China National Knowledge Infrastructure and Wanfang) were searched. Only randomized controlled trials on the effect of moxibustion on CRF were included in this systematic review. Study selection, data extraction, and validation were all carried out independently by two reviewers. The revised Cochrane Risk of Bias tool was used to assess the quality of the RCTs (RoB 2.0). The Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) system was applied to assess effect sizes in individual RCTs and pooled effect sizes in meta-analyses. Data were meta-analyzed using Stata (version 14.0). RESULTS: In a random-effects meta-analysis of 24 RCTs with 1894 participants, the aggregated standardized mean difference (SMD) revealed a statistically significant association between moxibustion and alleviation from cancer-related fatigue (SMD = - 1.66, 95% CI = - 2.05, - 1.28, p = 0.000). Pooled results, however, show significant heterogeneity (I2 = 92.5%), and the evidence is insufficient to determine whether this association varies systematically by measuring tools and moxibustion modalities. Furthermore, evidence ranging from very low to low showed that moxibustion had an immediate positive effect on patients with CRF. CONCLUSION: Moxibustion may have a therapeutic effect on cancer-related fatigue. However, further large-scale, multicenter, high-quality RCTs on moxibustion for fatigue relief and safety are still needed because of the handful of studies included and the low methodological quality.

ABSTRACT

Researching ultrafast dynamics and creating coherent light sources will both benefit significantly from the establishment of polarization control in high-order harmonic generation (HHG). By employing the time-dependent density functional theory method, we investigate HHG of carbonyl sulfide molecules using a combination of a linear polarized infrared (IR) laser and a weaker orthogonal Terahertz (THz) field. Our findings show that by adjusting the amplitude of the THz field, the movement scale of electrons in the THz direction can be tuned, thereby one can control the harmonic intensity in the IR laser direction. This method allows for the creation of near-circularly polarized attosecond pulses. Furthermore, the ellipticity of the attosecond pulse may be changed by modifying the carrier-envelope phase of the IR laser pulse.

ABSTRACT

Ovarian tissue cryopreservation is an effective fertility protective strategy for preadolescent female cancer patients, whose tumor treatment cannot be delayed. In the present study, the effects of sericin, as an antioxidant, on mice ovarian tissue freezing and thawing were investigated. Mice ovarian tissues were cryopreserved and thawed in medium containing 0.5% or 1%sericin (w/v), and 0.1 mM melatonin. Then, the follicular morphology was observed. The levels of antioxidant enzymes were determined, including glutathione (GSH), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), total superoxide dismutase (T-SOD), total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) and catalase (CAT). Moreover, the levels of nitric oxide (NO), malondialdehyde (MDA) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) were also tested. Besides, apoptosis-related proteins Bcl-2 and Bax were determined. Our results showed that 1% sericin maintained follicular morphology, inhibited apoptosis, decreased MDA and NO levels, and boosted endogenous antioxidant enzyme levels, while had no significant effect on LDH levels. Furthermore, these effects may be related with the activation of the phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (AKT)/mammalian target of Rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway, as demonstrated by increased PI3K, p-AKT and mTOR levels. These findings demonstrate that 1% sericin may reduce oxidative stress and protect ovarian tissues during freezing and thawing via PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway.

BACKGROUND: Persistent hyperplastic primary vitreous (PHPV), also known as persistent fetal vasculature (PFV), is a clinical entity that traditionally presents with leukocoria, microphthalmia, retinal dysplasia, or eyeball shrinkage which is associated with poor vision. However, there is a dearth of literature on cases of PHPV in adulthood or with asymptomatic occurrence. This report presents the clinical and pathological findings of a non-typical PHPV case and discuss the current knowledge for this condition. CASE PRESENTATION: A 68-year-old healthy male was referred to our outpatient department for evaluation of age-related cataract without other visual symptoms. Preoperative fundus examination occasionally detected an isolated stalk-like band extending to the posterior pole of the eye with normal central vitreous and retina. Other ocular examinations including b-mode ultrasonography, optical coherence tomography did not unveil any abnormalities, which caused diagnostic uncertainty. We referred to cataract surgery along with histopathological study, that revealed characteristics of PHPV including fibrous connective tissues mainly composed of fibrocyte proliferation and a very few capillary vessels. Thereafter, a definitive diagnosis of non-typical PHPV was established. CONCLUSION: Our case is unique due to it was not discovered until adulthood, presence with only age-related cataract, and accompanied with normal central vitreous and retina. Histopathological explorations lead to an accurate diagnosis of the condition. Those results broaden the phenotype spectrums of PHPV and further provide clinical clues for the cognition of the disease.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Arthroscopic superior capsule reconstruction (SCR) with the long head of the biceps (LHBT) was performed to restore structural stability, force couple balance, and shoulder joint function. This study aimed to evaluate the functional outcomes of SCR using the LHBT over at least 24 months of follow-up. METHOD: This retrospective study included 89 patients with massive rotator cuff tears who underwent SCR using the LHBT, met the inclusion criteria and underwent follow up for at least 24 months. The preoperative and postoperative shoulder range of motion (forward flexion, external rotation, and abduction), acromiohumeral interval (AHI), visual analog scale (VAS) score, American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) score and Constant-Murley score were obtained, and the tear size, and Goutallier and Hamada grades were also investigated. RESULTS: Compared with those measured preoperatively, the range of motion, AHI, and VAS, Constant-Murley, and ASES scores were significantly improved immediately postoperatively (P < 0.001) and at the 6-month, 12-month, and final follow-ups (P < 0.001). At the last follow-up, the postoperative ASES score and Constant-Murley score increased from 42.8 ± 7.6 to 87.4 ± 6.1, and 42.3 ± 8.9 to 84.9 ± 10.7, respectively; with improvements of 51 ± 21.7 in forward flexion, 21.0 ± 8.1 in external rotation, and 58.5 ± 22.5 in abduction. The AHI increased 2.1 ± 0.8 mm and the VAS score significantly changed from 6.0 (5.0, 7.0) to 1.0 (0.0, 1.0), at the final follow-up. Eleven of the 89 patients experienced retears, and one patient needed reoperation. CONCLUSION: In this study with at least 24-months of follow-up, SCR using the LHBT for massive rotator cuff tears could effectively relieve shoulder pain, restore shoulder function and increase shoulder mobility to some extent. ABSTRACT

This study aimed to explore the mechanism of albiflorin in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease(AD) based on network pharmacology, molecular docking, and in vitro experiments. Network pharmacology was used to predict the potential targets and pathways of albiflorin against AD, and molecular docking technology was used to verify the binding affinity of albiflorin to key target proteins. Finally, the AD cell model was induced by Aß_(25-35) in rat pheochromocytoma(PC12) cells and intervened by albiflorin to validate core targets and pathways. The results of network pharmacological analysis showed that albiflorin acted on key targets such as mitogen-activated protein kinase-1(MAPK1 or ERK2), albumin(ALB), epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR), caspase-3(CASP3), and sodium-dependent serotonin transporter(SLC6A4), and signaling pathways such as MAPK, cAMP, and cGMP-PKG. The results of molecular docking showed that albiflorin had strong binding affinity to MAPK1(ERK2). In vitro experiments showed that compared with the blank group, the model group showed decreased cell viability, decreased expression level of B-cell lymphoma 2(Bcl-2), increased Bcl-2-associated X protein(Bax), and reduced phosphorylation level of extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2(ERK1/2) and the relative expression ratio of p-ERK1/2 to ERK1/2. Compared with the model group, the albiflorin group showed potentiated cell viability, up-regulated expression of Bcl-2, down-regulated Bax, and increased phosphorylation level of ERK1/2 and the relative expression ratio of p-ERK1/2 to ERK1/2. These results suggest that the mechanism of albiflorin against AD may be related to its activation of the MAPK/ERK signaling pathway and its inhibition of neuronal apoptosis.

MAIN CONCLUSION: Rht5 was narrowed to an approximately 1 Mb interval and had pleiotropic effects on plant height, spike length and grain size. TraesCS3B02G025600 was predicted as the possible candidate gene. Plant height is an important component related to plant architecture, lodging resistance, and yield performance. The utilization of dwarf genes has made great contributions to wheat breeding and production. In this study, two F2 populations derived from the crosses of Jinmai47 and Ningchun45 with Marfed M were employed to identify the genetic region of reduce plant height 5 (Rht5), and their derived lines were used to evaluate its effects on plant height and main agronomic traits. Rht5 was fine-mapped between markers Kasp-25 and Kasp-23, in approximately 1 Mb region on chromosome 3BS, which harbored 17 high-confidence annotated genes based on the reference genome of Chinese Spring (IWGSC RefSeq v1.1). TraesCS3B02G025600 were predicted as the possible candidate gene based on its differential expression and sequence variation between dwarf and tall lines and parents. The results of phenotypic evaluation showed that Rht5 had pleiotropic effects on plant height, spike length, culm diameter, grain size and grain yield. The plant height of Rht5 dwarf lines was reduced by an average of 32.67% (32.53 cm) and 27.84% (33.62 cm) in the Jinmai47 and Ningchun45 population, respectively. While Rht5 showed significant and negative pleiotropic effects on culm diameter, aboveground biomass, grain yield, spike length, spikelet number, grain number per spike, grain size, grain weight and filling degree of basal second internode. The culm lodging resistance index (CLRI) of dwarf lines was significantly higher than that of tall lines in the two population. In conclusion, these results lay a foundation for understanding the dwarfing mechanism of Rht5.

ABSTRACT

When a bulk solid is irradiated by an intense laser pulse, transition dipole moments (TDMs) between different energy bands have an important influence on the ultra-fast dynamic process. In this paper, we propose a new all-optical method to reconstruct the k-dependent TDMs between multi-bands using a crystal high-order harmonic generation (HHG). Taking advantage of an obvious separation of bandgaps between three energy bands of an MgO crystal along the <001 > direction, a continuous harmonic spectrum with two plateaus can be generated by a two-color laser pulse. Furthermore, the first harmonic platform is mainly dominated by the polarization between the first conduction band and the valence band, and the second one is largely attributed to the interband HHG from the second conduction band and the valence band. Therefore, the harmonic spectrum from a single quantum trajectory can be adopted to map TDMs between the first, second conduction bands, and the valence one. Our work is of great significance for understanding the instantaneous properties of solid materials in the strong laser field, and will strongly promote the development of the HHG detection technology.

ABSTRACT

Bioremediation, which has several advantages over traditional methods, represents an alternative means of dealing with heavy metal pollution. We screened for microorganisms showing heavy metal tolerance in polluted mangrove soils. A novel yeast, Geotrichum sp. CS-67, was discovered and tested for tolerance of Cu2+, Zn2+, and Ni2+. Zn2+ was the most efficiently sequestered by Geotrichum sp. CS-67 followed by Ni2+ and Cu2+. Zn2+ and Ni2+ were actively taken up into the cell, while Cu2+ was adsorbed to the cell wall. We used RNA-Seq to show that a large number of genes involved in the physiological and biochemical processing of heavy metals were differentially expressed in this yeast when it was subjected to Zn2+ and Ni2+ stress. From this panel, we selected the SED1, GDI1 and ZRT1 genes for validation by qRT-PCR and discovered that, during Zn2+ and Ni2+ stress, SED1 and GDI1 were upregulated, while ZRT1 was downregulated, which was consistent with the RNA-Seq results and the biochemical function of these genes. In conclusion, the novel yeast Geotrichum sp. CS-67 has a marked ability to accumulate heavy metal ions, making it of great interest as a possible microbial agent for heavy metal pollution remediation in the future.

ABSTRACT

Pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) are a class of natural toxins with hepatotoxicity, genotoxicity and carcinogenicity. They are endogenous and adulterated toxic components widely found in food and herbal products. In this study, a sensitive and efficient ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) method was used to detect the PAs in 386 kinds of Chinese herbal medicines recorded in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia (2020). The estimated daily intake (EDI) of 0.007 µg/kg body weight (bw)/day was adopted as the safety baseline. The margin of exposure (MOE) approach was applied to evaluate the chronic exposure risk for the genotoxic and carcinogenic potential of PAs. Results showed that PAs was detected in 271 out of 386 samples with a content of 0.1-25,567.4 µg/kg, and there were 20 samples with EDI values above the baseline, 0.007 µg/kg bw/day. Beyond that, the MOE values for 10 out of 271 positive samples were below 10,000. Considering the actual situation, Haber's rule was used to assume two weeks exposure every year during lifetime, and still the MOE values for four out of 271 positive samples were under 10,000, indicating these products may have potential health risk. The developed method was successfully applied to detect the PAs-containing Chinese herbal medicines. This study provides convincing data that can support risk management actions in China and a meaningful reference for the rational and safe use of Chinese herbal medicines.

ABSTRACT

The study on environmental risk of surface water is of great practical significance for the ecological security of water environment and water pollution treatment, and it can provide a certain reference basis for risk prevention and control of water environment. The Tianjin Binhai New Area faces severe water shortage and serious water pollution, but few studies have been reported on surface water environment risk in this area. Therefore, in this study, based on Gaofen-6 remote sensing image, the factors including land use, landscape index, population density, and enterprise source are integrated to develop the evaluation model of surface water environment risk index. It is developed using analytic hierarchy process from two aspects of hazard of risk source and sensitivity of risk receptor. The comprehensive risk of Tianjin Binhai New Area is classified using mean standard deviation method. The result indicates that the developed model could better quantify the impact of various factors on the surface water environment, and comprehensively and accurately depict the spatial distribution of surface water environmental risk. Generally, the areas of higher and high risk grades are mainly concentrated on the west of Binhai Street, Beitang Street, and Hangzhou Road Street. The risk grade in most other areas is medium, and it is low in coastal and northernmost areas. This study not only clarifies the distribution of surface water environmental risks in Binhai New Area, but also develops an evaluation model, which can provide reference for the evaluation of water environmental risks in other areas. Through the investigation and research on the current situation of water pollution, social and economic development, and other factors of the streets and towns in Binhai New Area, it is found that in recent years, the urbanization of Binhai Street, Beitang Street, and Hangzhou Road Street has developed rapidly, and the intensity of human activities is high, which has a great impact on the water environment. The research results are consistent with the actual situation, which can provide theoretical and technical support for the prevention, control, and management of water environmental risks in Binhai New Area.

ABSTRACT

Trehalose is a non-reducing disaccharide with a wide range of applications in food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical industries. Cyanobacteria are promising cell factories to produce biochemicals by using solar energy and CO2. Trehalose is biosynthesized at low intracellular concentrations as a salt-inducible compatible solute in some cyanobacteria. In the current study, we demonstrated the efficient trehalose production without salt induction in cyanobacteria by metabolic engineering. The trehalose transporter 1 (TRET1) from an anhydrobiotic insect (Polypedilum vanderplanki) was successfully expressed in the engineered strains and the intracellular trehalose was efficiently secreted to the medium. As the results, the engineered strain co-expressing maltooligosyl trehalose synthase (MTS), maltooligosyl trehalose trehalohydrolase (MTH) and TRET1 secreted 97% of trehalose to the medium, and the titer was up to 2.7 g/L in 15 days. In addition, 5.7 g/L trehalose was produced by semi-continuous cultivation in 34 days. Taken together, this work demonstrates cyanobacteria can be applied as cell factories for direct sunlight-driven conversion of CO2 into excreted trehalose.

ABSTRACT

An effective scheme to enhance the yield of high-order harmonic generation originated from spatially inhomogeneous field through the interaction between few-cycle chirped laser pulses and a nano-tip structure is demonstrated. The conversion efficiency of harmonics from chirped laser pulses was significantly improved by nearly three more orders of magnitude than that of chirp-free pulses, and the cutoff energy of the corresponding harmonics was dramatically enhanced. By superimposing a series of properly selected orders of harmonics, isolated attosecond pulses of high intensity can be obtained. Furthermore, we compared the effects of different types of chirps on harmonics.

ABSTRACT

Background Hereditary sensorineural hearing loss is a genetically heterogeneous disorder. Objectives This study was designed to explore the genetic etiology of deafness in a large Chinese family with autosomal dominant, nonsyndromic, progressive sensorineural hearing loss (ADNSHL). Methods Whole exome sequencing and linkage analysis were performed to identify pathogenic mutation. Inner ear expression of Ifnlr1 was investigated by immunostaining in mice. ifnlr1 Morpholino knockdown Zebrafish were constructed to explore the deafness mechanism. Results We identified a cosegregating heterozygous missense mutation, c.296G>A (p.Arg99His) in the gene encoding interferon lambda receptor 1 (IFNLR1) - a protein that functions in the Jak/ STAT pathway- are associated with ADNSHL Morpholino knockdown of ifnlr1 leads to a significant decrease in hair cells and non-inflation of the swim bladder in late-stage zebrafish, which can be reversed by injection with normal Zebrafish ifnlr1 mRNA. Knockdown of ifnlr1 in zebrafish causes significant upregulation of cytokine receptor family member b4 (interleukin-10r2), jak1, tyrosine kinase 2, stat3, and stat5b in the Jak1/STAT3 pathway at the mRNA level. ConclusionIFNLR1 function is required in the auditory system and that IFNLR1 mutations are associated with ADNSHL. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study implicating an interferon lambda receptor in auditory function.

ABSTRACT

Pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) are natural toxins found in some genera of the family Asteraceae. However, it has not been reported whether PAs are present in the widely used Asteraceae plant Artemisia capillaris Thunb. (A. capillaris). The purpose of this study was to establish a sensitive and rapid UPLC-MS/MS method together with chemometrics analysis for simultaneous determination and risk assessment of PAs in A. capillaris. The developed UPLC-MS/MS method was validated and was confirmed to display desirable high selectivity, precision and accuracy. Risk assessment was conducted according to the European Medicines Agency (EMA) guideline. Chemometrics analysis was performed with hierarchical clustering analysis and principal component analysis to characterize the differences between PAs of A. capillaris. Finally, PAs were found in 29 out of 30 samples and at least two were detected in each sample, besides, more than half of the samples exceeded the EMA baseline. Nevertheless, the chemometrics results suggested that the PAs contents of A. capillaris from different sources varied significantly. The method was successfully applied to the detection and risk evaluation of PAs-containing A. capillaris for the first time. This study should provide a meaningful reference for the rational and safe use of A. capillaris.
