RESUMEN

NOC1 is a nucleolar protein necessary in yeast for both transport and maturation of ribosomal subunits. Here, we show that Drosophila NOC1 (annotated CG7839) is necessary for rRNAs maturation and for a correct animal development. Its ubiquitous downregulation results in a dramatic decrease in polysome level and of protein synthesis. NOC1 expression in multiple organs, such as the prothoracic gland and the fat body, is necessary for their proper functioning. Reduction of NOC1 in epithelial cells from the imaginal discs results in clones that die by apoptosis, an event that is partially rescued in a Minute/+ background, suggesting that reduction of NOC1 induces the cells to become less fit and to acquire a 'loser' state. NOC1 downregulation activates the pro-apoptotic Eiger-JNK pathway and leads to an increase of Xrp1, which results in the upregulation of DILP8, a member of the insulin/relaxin-like family known to coordinate organ growth with animal development. Our data underline NOC1 as an essential gene in ribosome biogenesis and highlight its novel functions in the control of growth and cell competition.

RESUMEN

Medical imaging is both valuable and essential in the care of patients. Much of this imaging depends on ionizing radiation with attendant responsibilities for judicious use when performing an examination. This responsibility applies in settings of both individual as well as multiple (recurrent) imaging with associated repeated radiation exposures. In addressing the roles and responsibilities of the medical communities in the paradigm of recurrent imaging, both the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) have issued position statements, each affirmed by other organizations. The apparent difference in focus and approach has resulted in a lack of clarity and continued debate. Aiming towards a coherent approach in dealing with radiation exposure in recurrent imaging, the IAEA convened a panel of experts, the purpose of which was to identify common ground and reconcile divergent perspectives. The effort has led to clarifying recommendations for radiation exposure aspects of recurrent imaging, including the relevance of patient agency and the provider-patient covenant in clinical decision-making. CLINICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT: An increasing awareness, generating some lack of clarity and divergence in perspectives, with patients receiving relatively high radiation doses (e.g., ≥ 100 mSv) from recurrent imaging warrants a multi-stakeholder accord for the benefit of patients, providers, and the imaging community. KEY POINTS: • Recurrent medical imaging can result in an accumulation of exposures which exceeds 100 milli Sieverts. • Professional organizations have different perspectives on roles and responsibilities for recurrent imaging. • An expert panel reconciles differing perspectives for addressing radiation exposure from recurrent medical imaging.

PURPOSE: Breast cancer diagnosis often involves assessing the locoregional spread of the disease through MRI, as multicentricity, multifocality and/or bilaterality are increasingly common. Contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM) is emerging as a potential alternative method. This study compares the performance of CEM and MRI in preoperative staging of women with confirmed breast carcinoma. Patients were also asked to fill in a satisfaction questionnaire to rate their comfort level with each investigation. METHODS: From May 1st, 2021 to May 1st, 2022, we enrolled 70 women with confirmed breast carcinoma who were candidates for surgery. For pre-operative locoregional staging, all patients underwent CEM and MRI examination, which two radiologists evaluated blindly. We further investigated all suspicious locations for disease spread, identified by both CEM and MRI, with a second-look ultrasound (US) and eventual histological examination. RESULTS: In our study cohort, MRI and CEM identified 114 and 102 areas of focal contrast enhancement, respectively. A true discrepancy between MRI and CEM occurred in 9 out of 70 patients examined. MRI reported 8 additional lesions that proved to be false positives on second-look US in 6 patients, while it identified 4 lesions that were not detected by CEM and were pathological (true positives) in 3 patients. CONCLUSIONS: CEM showed results comparable to MRI in the staging of breast cancer in our study population, with a high rate of patient acceptability.

BACKGROUND: Screening for lung cancer with low radiation dose computed tomography has a strong evidence base, is being introduced in several European countries and is recommended as a new targeted cancer screening programme. The imperative now is to ensure that implementation follows an evidence-based process that will ensure clinical and cost effectiveness. This European Respiratory Society (ERS) task force was formed to provide an expert consensus for the management of incidental findings which can be adapted and followed during implementation. METHODS: A multi-European society collaborative group was convened. 23 topics were identified, primarily from an ERS statement on lung cancer screening, and a systematic review of the literature was conducted according to ERS standards. Initial review of abstracts was completed and full text was provided to members of the group for each topic. Sections were edited and the final document approved by all members and the ERS Science Council. RESULTS: Nine topics considered most important and frequent were reviewed as standalone topics (interstitial lung abnormalities, emphysema, bronchiectasis, consolidation, coronary calcification, aortic valve disease, mediastinal mass, mediastinal lymph nodes and thyroid abnormalities). Other topics considered of lower importance or infrequent were grouped into generic categories, suitable for general statements. CONCLUSIONS: This European collaborative group has produced an incidental findings statement that can be followed during lung cancer screening. It will ensure that an evidence-based approach is used for reporting and managing incidental findings, which will mean that harms are minimised and any programme is as cost-effective as possible.

BACKGROUND: The aim of the present study is to evaluate the reliability of a 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) PET adaptive threshold segmentation (ATS) algorithm, previously validated in a preclinical setting on several scanners, for the biological target volume (BTV) delineation of head and neck radiotherapy planning. METHODS: [18F]FDG PET ATS algorithm was studied in treatment plans of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma on a dedicated workstation (iTaRT, Tecnologie Avanzate, Turin, Italy). BTVs segmented by the present ATS algorithm (BTVATS) were compared with those manually segmented for the original radiotherapy treatment planning (BTVVIS). We performed a qualitative and quantitative volumetric analysis with a comparison tool within the ImSimQA TM software package (Oncology Systems Limited, Shrewsbury, UK). We reported figures of merit (FOMs) to convey complementary information: Dice Similarity Coefficient, Sensitivity Index, and Inclusiveness Index. RESULTS: The study was conducted on 32 treatment plans. Median BTVATS was 11 cm3 while median BTVVIS was 14 cm3. The median Dice Similarity Coefficient, Sensitivity Index, Inclusiveness Index were 0.72, 63%, 88%, respectively. Interestingly, the median volume and the median distance of the voxels that are over contoured by ATS were respectively 1 cm3 and 1 mm. CONCLUSIONS: ATS algorithm could be a smart and an independent operator tool when implemented for 18F-FDG-PET-based tumor volume delineation. Furthermore, it might be relevant in case of BTV-based dose painting.

Mental disorders among children and adolescents pose a significant global challenge. The exposome framework covering the totality of internal, social and physical exposures over a lifetime provides opportunities to better understand the causes of and processes related to mental health, and cognitive functioning. The paper presents a conceptual framework on exposome, mental health, and cognitive development in children and adolescents, with potential mediating pathways, providing a possibility for interventions along the life course. The paper underscores the significance of adopting a child perspective to the exposome, acknowledging children's specific vulnerability, including differential exposures, susceptibility of effects and capacity to respond; their susceptibility during development and growth, highlighting neurodevelopmental processes from conception to young adulthood that are highly sensitive to external exposures. Further, critical periods when exposures may have significant effects on a child's development and future health are addressed. The paper stresses that children's behaviour, physiology, activity pattern and place for activities make them differently vulnerable to environmental pollutants, and calls for child-specific assessment methods, currently lacking within today's health frameworks. The importance of understanding the interplay between structure and agency is emphasized, where agency is guided by social structures and practices and vice-versa. An intersectional approach that acknowledges the interplay of social and physical exposures as well as a global and rural perspective on exposome is further pointed out. To advance the exposome field, interdisciplinary efforts that involve multiple scientific disciplines are crucial. By adopting a child perspective and incorporating an exposome approach, we can gain a comprehensive understanding of how exposures impact children's mental health and cognitive development leading to better outcomes.

PURPOSE: To evaluate microvascular and neuronal changes over 3 years in patients with Type 1/2 diabetes mellitus (DM1/DM2), good metabolic control, and no signs of diabetic retinopathy. METHODS: In this prospective, longitudinal study, 20 DM1, 48 DM2, and 24 controls underwent macular optical coherence tomography and optical coherence tomography angiography at baseline and after 3 years. Following parameters were considered: thickness of the central macula, retinal nerve fiber layer, ganglion cell (GCL+/GCL++) complex; perfusion and vessel density and fractal dimension at the superficial and deep capillary plexuses; choriocapillaris flow deficits; and foveal avascular zone metrics. MATLAB and ImageJ were used for optical coherence tomography angiography scans analyses. RESULTS: The mean HbA1c was 7.4 ± 0.8% in DM1 and 7.2 ± 0.8% in DM2 at baseline, with no change at 3 years. No eye developed diabetic retinopathy. In longitudinal analyses, perfusion density at superficial capillary plexuses ( P = 0.03) and foveal avascular zone area and perimeter ( P < 0.0001) significantly increased in DM2 compared with other groups. No longitudinal changes occurred in optical coherence tomography parameters. In comparisons within groups, DM2 had a significant thinning of GCL++ in the outer ring, decreased perfusion density at deep capillary plexuses and choriocapillaris flow deficits, and increase in foveal avascular zone perimeter and area in deep capillary plexuses; DM1 had an increase in foveal avascular zone perimeter in deep capillary plexuses ( P < 0.001 for all comparisons). CONCLUSION: Longitudinal data showed significant microvascular retinal changes in DM2. No changes were detected in neuronal parameters and in DM1. Longer and larger studies are needed to confirm these preliminary data.

INTRODUCTION: This study aimed to evaluate the association between macular optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A) metrics, characteristics of ultrawide field (UWF) imaging, and cerebrovascular disease in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) with different stages of diabetic retinopathy (DR). METHODS: 516 eyes of 258 DM patients were enrolled in two centers (Milan and Belfast). UWF color fundus photos (CFPs) were obtained with Optos California (Optos, PLC) and graded for both DR severity and predominantly peripheral lesions presence (>50% of CFP lesions) by two independent graders. OCT-A (3 × 3 mm), available in 252 eyes of 136 patients, was used to determine perimeter, area, and circularity index of the foveal avascular zone and vessel density (VD); perfusion density (PD); fractal dimension on superficial, intermediate (ICP), and deep capillary plexuses; flow voids (FVs) in the choriocapillaris. RESULTS: Out of 516 eyes, 108 eyes (20.9%) had no DR, and 6 eyes were not gradable. The remaining 402 eyes were as follows: 10.3% (53) had mild nonproliferative DR (NPDR), 38.2% (197) had moderate NPDR, 11.8% (61) had severe NPDR, and 17.6% (91) had proliferative DR. A worse DR stage was associated with a history of stroke (p = 0.044). Logistic regression analysis after taking into account sex, type of DM, age, DM duration, and OCT-A variables found that PD and VD on ICP were significantly associated with presence of stroke and DR severity. CONCLUSION: OCT-A metrics show an association with the presence of cerebrovascular complications, providing potentially useful parameters to estimate vascular risk in patients with DM.

The face is a powerful source to make inferences about one's trustworthiness. Recent studies demonstrated that facial trustworthiness is influenced by the level of threat conveyed by the visual scene in which faces are embedded: untrustworthy-looking faces are more likely judged as untrustworthy when shown in threatening scenes. Here, we explore whether this face-context congruency effect is specific to the negative pole of the threat-trust domain. Experiment 1 (N = 89) focused on the differential impact of positive vs. negative face-context congruency within the domains of threat and trust. Negative congruency (i.e. untrustworthy-looking faces in threatening contexts) led to more extreme attributions as opposed to positive congruency (i.e. trustworthy-looking faces in reassuring contexts). Experiment 2 (N = 120) replicated these findings by further showing their domain-specificity. The negativity bias was found in the threat-trust domain, but not when extroverted- vs. introverted-looking faces appeared in happy vs. sad context scenes. Experiment 3 (N = 154, pre-registered) replicated the pattern observed in Experiment 1 while controlling for the extent to which both threatening and reassuring context stimuli were related to the human action. We discussed the theoretical implications of these results for understanding how contextual information is integrated into the evaluation of facial trustworthiness.

OBJECTIVES: To estimate the number of patients who receive a cumulative effective dose (CED) of ≥ 100 mSv from computed tomography (CT) in a single day or episode of care. METHODS: We examined 28,870 patients who underwent 49,834 CT examinations in a tertiary care centre in Italy in 2.5 years. Radiation exposures were retrieved from the hospital's automatic exposure monitoring system. Two cohorts were identified as those who received a CED of ≥ 100 mSv in a single day and within a month starting from the first examination. Organ doses were estimated for the first cohort. RESULTS: Among the 1765 (6.1%) patients who received CED ≥ 100 mSv in the observation period, 427 received a CED of ≥ 100 mSv within a month (and 70 patients in a single day). This group represented 1.5% of all patients who underwent CT exams and 24% of those who received CED ≥ 100 mSv in the observation period. The clinical indication for referral included cancer in 132 patients (31%) and non-oncological indications in 295 patients (69%). In 68/70 patients with CED > 100 mSv in a single day, at least one organ/tissue received a dose of ≥ 100 mGy. CONCLUSIONS: The finding of a sizeable percentage of patients undergoing CT exams and receiving CED ≥ 100 mSv in a single episode of care points toward the need of imaging appropriateness criteria, to revise the routine protocols, to replace older machines, and to provide to the radiologist the patient's prior radiation history to facilitate an appropriate decision-making process. KEY POINTS: • Patients can receive effective doses greater than 100 mSv in a single CT or in multiple CT examinations performed in a single episode of care in 1.5% of patients in a 2.5-year period. • In this study, the clinical indication for CT referral was non-oncological in 69% of patients. • The patient's prior radiation history should be provided to the referring physicians and the radiological medical practitioner to facilitate an appropriate decision-making process.

BACKGROUND: This investigation used image data generated by an anthropomorphic phantom to determine the minimal 99mTc rest-stress activity concentration ratio (R) able to minimize the ghosting effect in the single-day stress-first myocardial perfusion imaging, using different positions of the perfusion defect (PD), scanners and reconstruction protocols. METHODS: A cardiac phantom with a simulated PD was imaged under different R using different gamma cameras and reconstruction algorithms. The residual activity from precedent stress administration was simulated by modeling effective half-times in each compartment of the phantom and assuming a delay of 3 hours between the stress and rest studies. The net contrast (NC) of the PD in the rest study was assessed for different R, PD positions and scanner/software combinations. The optimal R will be the one that minimize the NC in the rest images RESULTS: The activity concentration ratio R, the position of the PD and the scanner/software combinations were all main effects with a statistically significant impact on the NC, in decreasing order of relevance. The NC diminished significantly only for R values up to 2. No further improvement was observed for NC for R values above 2 and up to 3. NC was significantly higher in anteroseptal than in posterolateral positions of the PD and higher for solid-state cameras. CONCLUSIONS: A rest-stress activity concentration ratio R of 2 in single-day stress-first myocardial perfusion imaging is enough to achieve the maximum net contrast in the PD. This ratio should be used to optimize patient's radiation exposure.

Research on stereotyping has mainly focused on single social categories such as ethnicity or gender. Extending prior work, here we analyse the effects of the intersection of ethnicity and gender on stereotyping considering the descriptive and prescriptive components of positive and negative stereotype dimensions of morality, sociability and competence. We also examine these interaction effects on the stereotypes-emotions-facilitation behavioural tendencies link. Following a 2 × 2 between-subjects design, Spanish participants evaluated Moroccan immigrant (vs. Spaniard) women (vs. men). We found interaction effects only on descriptive moral character: Moroccan men are perceived as less moral than Spanish men, and less moral and more immoral than Moroccan women. Moreover, (im)morality has a driving role in predicting less facilitation tendencies towards Moroccan men (vs. Moroccan women and Spanish men) via positive emotions. Our findings reveal the primacy of (im)morality in social perception and helping intentions towards targets varying on gender and ethnicity.

OBJECTIVES: To have a global picture of the recurrent use of CT imaging to a level where cumulative effective dose (CED) to individual patients may be exceeding 100 mSv at which organ doses typically are in a range at which radiation effects are of concern METHODS: The IAEA convened a meeting in 2019 with participants from 26 countries, representatives of various organizations, and experts in radiology, medical physics, radiation biology, and epidemiology. Participants were asked to collect data prior to the meeting on cumulative radiation doses to assess the magnitude of patients above a defined level of CED. RESULTS: It was observed that the number of patients with CED ≥ 100 mSv is much larger than previously known or anticipated. Studies were presented in the meeting with data from about 3.2 million patients who underwent imaging procedures over periods of between 1 and 5 years in different hospitals. It is probable that an additional 0.9 million patients reach the CED ≥ 100 mSv every year globally. CONCLUSIONS: There is a need for urgent actions by all stakeholders to address the issue of high cumulative radiation doses to patients. The actions include development of appropriateness criteria/referral guidelines by professional societies for patients who require recurrent imaging studies, development of CT machines with lower radiation dose than today by manufacturers, and development of policies by risk management organizations to enhance patient radiation safety. Alert values for cumulative radiation exposures of patients should be set up and introduced in dose monitoring systems. KEY POINTS: • Recurrent radiological imaging procedures leading to high radiation dose to patients are more common than ever before. • Tracking of radiation exposure of individual patients provides useful information on cumulative radiation dose. • There is a need for urgent actions by all stakeholders to address the issue of high cumulative radiation doses to patients.

BACKGROUND: The aim of the study was to assess the agreement between the left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) values obtained with IQ-SPECT and those obtained with a conventional gamma camera equipped with low-energy high-resolution (LEHR), considered as the method of reference. METHODS: Gated-stress MPI using 99mTc-tetrofosmin was performed in 55 consecutive patients. The patients underwent two sequential acquisitions (Method A and B) performed on Symbia-IQ SPECT with different acquisition times and one (Method C) on a Ecam SPECT equipped with LEHR collimators. The values of the different datasets were compared using the Bland-Altman analysis method: the bias and the limits of agreement (LA) were estimated in a head-to-head comparison of the three protocols. RESULTS: In the (Method A-Method C) comparison for LVEF, the bias was 3.8% and the LAs ranged from - 9.3% to 16.8%. The agreement was still lower between Method B and C, whilst only slightly improved when Methods A and B were compared. CONCLUSIONS: The wide amplitude in LA intervals of about 30% indicates that IQ and LEHR GSPECT are not interchangeable. The values obtained with IQ-SPECT should only be used with caution when evaluating the functional state of the heart.

PURPOSE: To assess changes on optical coherence tomography (OCT) angiography in diabetic macular edema (DME) treated with subthreshold micropulse yellow laser (SMPL) over a period of 6 months. METHODS: Thirty-five eyes (35 consecutive patients) with treatment-naive DME prospectively underwent (at baseline, 3 and 6 months) best-corrected visual acuity, swept-source OCT angiography/OCT, and fundus autofluorescence. Following parameters were evaluated on OCT angiography in the superficial capillary plexus (SCP) and deep capillary plexus (DCP): the area of foveal avascular zone, number of microaneurysms (MA), area of cysts, and presence of capillary network alterations. Microaneurysm change was also evaluated in 15 fellow eyes, not needing treatment over 6 months. Vessel and perfusion densities were evaluated in the SCP, DCP, and choriocapillaris, with image J. Retina thickness, number of hyperreflective retinal spots, and external limiting membrane integrity were evaluated on OCT. All measurements were performed by two masked graders, independently. RESULTS: All patients had diabetes mellitus Type 2 (mean age, 69.4 ± 10.9 years; duration of diabetes mellitus, 15.7 ± 8.7 years; and HbA1c 7.7 ± 1.2%). Mean best-corrected visual acuity at baseline was 69.7 ± 12.0 letters ETDRS, 72.7 ± 10.7 at 3 months (gain 3.1 ± 4.3, P = 0.0049) and 74.3 ± 9.5 at 6 months (gain 4.6 ± 7.2, P < 0.0001). Foveal avascular zone area decreased in the DCP at 6 months (P = 0.01). Area of cysts decreased in the SCP at 3 months and 6 months (P = 0.038; P = 0.049), and in the DCP at 6 months (P = 0.0071). Number of MA decreased at 6 months in the SCP (P = 0.0007) and at 3 months and 6 months in the DCP (P = 0.048; P < 0.0001) in treated eyes. No significant change in number of MA was found in nontreated eyes. There was no statistically significant change in any other OCT angiography/OCT parameter. CONCLUSION: Subthreshold micropulse yellow laser induces more pronounced changes in the DCP than in the SCP in DME. These changes occurred as early as 3 months after treatment. The evaluation of specific parameters in the DCP may help in determining treatment response.

Pab1, the major poly (A) binding protein of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, is involved in many intracellular functions associated with mRNA metabolism, such as mRNA nuclear export, deadenylation, translation initiation and termination. Pab1 consists of four RNA recognition motifs (RRM), a proline-rich domain (P) and a carboxy-terminal (C) domain. Due to its modular structure, Pab1 can simultaneously interact with poly (A) tails and different proteins that regulate mRNA turnover and translation. Furthermore, Pab1 also influences cell physiology under stressful conditions by affecting the formation of quinary assemblies and stress granules, as well as by stabilizing specific mRNAs to allow translation re-initiation after stress. The main goal of this review is to correlate the structural complexity of this protein with the multiplicity of its functions.

The eyes reveal important social messages, such as emotions and whether a person is aroused and interested or bored and fatigued. A growing body of research has also shown that individuals with large pupils are generally evaluated positively by observers, while those with small pupils are perceived negatively. Here, we examined whether observed pupil size influences approach-avoidance tendencies. Participants performed an Approach-Avoidance Task using faces with large and small pupil sizes. Results showed that pupil size influences the accuracy of arm movements. Specifically, individuals were less prone to approach a face with small pupils than a face with large pupils. Conversely, participants were less prone to avoid a face with large pupils than a face with small pupils. Collectively, these findings suggest that perceivers attend to a facial cue - pupil size - when interacting with others.

PURPOSE: To quantitatively compare the artefact reduction between standard and metallic artefact reduction (MAR) fast spin echo (FSE) T2 sequences in a low-field magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner (0.3 T) in patients with titanium volar wrist plating. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sixteen patients with fractures of the distal radius, treated with titanium volar wrist plating and screws, were examined using a dedicated 0.3 T MRI scanner. Coronal standard FSE T2, FSE T2 high bandwidth (HiBW) and FSE T2 view angle tilting (VAT) sequences were performed. Metallic artefact volume, consisting of both "black" and "bright" artefacts, was calculated for each sequence. Quantitative differences were compared using repeated measures ANOVA test (P < 0.05). RESULTS: FSE T2 HiBW and FSE T2 VAT showed a significant reduction in artefact volume compared to the standard sequence. Differences between the artefact volume of the standard FSE T2, HiBW and VAT sequences were statistically significant for both the "black" and "bright" artefacts (P < 0.0001). Differences between the 1.5 HiBW and VAT sequences were statistically significant (black P < 0.0001, bright P < 0.0302). CONCLUSIONS: MAR sequences significantly reduced metallic artefacts in vivo using a 0.3 T MRI scanner.

The Saccharomyces cerevisiae poly(A)-binding protein Pab1 is a modular protein composed of four RNA recognition motifs (RRM), a proline-rich domain (P) and a C-terminus. Thanks to this modularity, Pab1 is involved in different interactions that regulate many aspects of mRNA metabolism, including the assembly of stress granules. In this work, we analyzed the contribution of each domain for the recruitment of the protein within stress granules by comparing the intracellular distribution of synthetic Pab1-GFP variants, lacking one or more domains, with the localization of the endogenous mCherry-tagged Pab1. Glucose starvation and heat shock were used to trigger the formation of stress granules. We found that Pab1 association into these aggregates relies mainly on RRMs, whose number is important for an efficient recruitment of the protein. Interestingly, although the P and C domains do not directly participate in Pab1 association to stress granules, their presence strengthens or decreases, respectively, the distribution of synthetic Pab1 lacking at least one RRM into these aggregates. In addition to describing the contribution of domains in determining Pab1 association within stress granules, the outcomes of this study suggest the modularity of Pab1 as an attractive platform for synthetic biology approaches aimed at rewiring mRNA metabolism.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the image quality in cardiac 18F-FDG PET using the time of flight (TOF) and/or point spread function (PSF) modeling in the iterative reconstruction (IR). METHODS: Three scanners and an anthropomorphic cardiac phantom with an insert simulating a transmural defect (TD) were used. Two sets of scans (with/without TD) were acquired, and four reconstruction schemes were considered: (1) IR; (2) IR + PSF, (3) IR + TOF, and (4) IR + TOF + PSF. LV wall thickness (FWHM), contrast between LV wall and inner chamber (C IC), and TD contrast in LV wall (C TD) were evaluated. RESULTS: Tests of the reconstruction protocols showed a decrease in FWHM from IR (13 mm) to IR + PSF (11 mm); an increase in the C IC from IR (65%) to IR + PSF (71%) and from IR + TOF (72%) to IR + TOF + PSF (77%); and an increase in the C TD from IR + PSF (72%) to IR + TOF (75%) and to IR + TOF + PSF (77%). Tests of the scanner/software combinations showed a decrease in FWHM from Gemini_TF (13 mm) to Biograph_mCT (12 mm) and to Discovery_690 (11 mm); an increase in the C IC from Gemini_TF (65%) to Biograph_mCT (73%) and to Discovery_690 (75%); and an increase in the C TD from Gemini_TF/Biograph_mCT (72%) to Discovery_690 (77%). CONCLUSION: The introduction of TOF and PSF increases image quality in cardiac 18F-FDG PET. The scanner/software combinations exhibit different performances, which should be taken into consideration when making cross comparisons.
