RESUMEN

Loss of BRCA1 p220 function often results in basal-like breast cancer (BLBC), but the underlying disease mechanism is largely opaque. In mammary epithelial cells (MECs), BRCA1 interacts with multiple proteins, including NUMB and HES1, to form complexes that participate in interstrand crosslink (ICL) DNA repair and MEC differentiation control. Unrepaired ICL damage results in aberrant transdifferentiation to a mesenchymal state of cultured, human basal-like MECs and to a basal/mesenchymal state in primary mouse luminal MECs. Loss of BRCA1, NUMB, or HES1 or chemically induced ICL damage in primary murine luminal MECs results in persistent DNA damage that triggers luminal to basal/mesenchymal transdifferentiation. In vivo single-cell analysis revealed a time-dependent evolution from normal luminal MECs to luminal progenitor-like tumor cells with basal/mesenchymal transdifferentiation during murine BRCA1 BLBC development. Growing DNA damage accompanied this malignant transformation.

Many RNAs function through RNA-RNA interactions. Fast and reliable RNA structure prediction with consideration of RNA-RNA interaction is useful, however, existing tools are either too simplistic or too slow. To address this issue, we present LinearCoFold, which approximates the complete minimum free energy structure of two strands in linear time, and LinearCoPartition, which approximates the cofolding partition function and base pairing probabilities in linear time. LinearCoFold and LinearCoPartition are orders of magnitude faster than RNAcofold. For example, on a sequence pair with combined length of 26,190 nt, LinearCoFold is 86.8× faster than RNAcofold MFE mode, and LinearCoPartition is 642.3× faster than RNAcofold partition function mode. Surprisingly, LinearCoFold and LinearCoPartition's predictions have higher PPV and sensitivity of intermolecular base pairs. Furthermore, we apply LinearCoFold to predict the RNA-RNA interaction between SARS-CoV-2 genomic RNA (gRNA) and human U4 small nuclear RNA (snRNA), which has been experimentally studied, and observe that LinearCoFold's prediction correlates better with the wet lab results than RNAcofold's.

Owing to their extraordinary photophysical properties, organometal halide perovskites are emerging as a new material class for X-ray detection. However, the existence of toxic lead makes their commercialization questionable and should readily be replaced. Accordingly, several lead alternatives have been introduced into the framework of conventional perovskites, resulting in various new perovskite dimensionalities. Among these, Pb-free lower dimensional perovskites (LPVKs) not only show promising X-ray detecting properties due to their higher ionic migration energy, wider and tunable energy bandgap, smaller dark currents, and structural versatility but also exhibit extended environmental stability. Herein, first, the structural organization of the PVKs (including LPVKs) is summarized. In the context of X-ray detectors (XDs), the outstanding properties of the LPVKs and active layer synthesis routes are elaborated afterward. Subsequently, their applications in direct XDs are extensively discussed and the device performance, in terms of the synthesis method, device architecture, active layer size, figure of merits, and device stability are tabulated. Finally, the review is concluded with an in-depth outlook, thoroughly exploring the present challenges to LPVKs XDs, proposing innovative solutions, and future directions. This review provides valuable insights into optimizing non-toxic Pb-free perovskite XDs, paving the way for future advancements in the field.

MOTIVATION: RNA design is the search for a sequence or set of sequences that will fold to desired structure, also known as the inverse problem of RNA folding. However, the sequences designed by existing algorithms often suffer from low ensemble stability, which worsens for long sequence design. Additionally, for many methods only a small number of sequences satisfying the MFE criterion can be found by each run of design. These drawbacks limit their use cases. RESULTS: We propose an innovative optimization paradigm, SAMFEO, which optimizes ensemble objectives (equilibrium probability or ensemble defect) by iterative search and yields a very large number of successfully designed RNA sequences as byproducts. We develop a search method which leverages structure level and ensemble level information at different stages of the optimization: initialization, sampling, mutation, and updating. Our work, while being less complicated than others, is the first algorithm that is able to design thousands of RNA sequences for the puzzles from the Eterna100 benchmark. In addition, our algorithm solves the most Eterna100 puzzles among all the general optimization based methods in our study. The only baseline solving more puzzles than our work is dependent on handcrafted heuristics designed for a specific folding model. Surprisingly, our approach shows superiority on designing long sequences for structures adapted from the database of 16S Ribosomal RNAs. Pasteurella multocida is a zoonotic conditional pathogen that infects multiple livestock species, causing substantial economic losses in the animal husbandry industry. An efficient markerless method for gene manipulation may facilitate the investigations of P. multocida gene function and pathogenesis of P. multocida. Herein, a temperature-sensitive shuttle vector was constructed using lacZ as a selection marker, and markerless glgB, opa, and hyaE mutants of P. multocida were subsequently constructed through blue-white colony screening. The screening efficiency of markerless deletion strains was improved by the lacZ system, and the method could be used for multiple gene deletions. However, the fur mutant was unavailable via this method. Therefore, we constructed a pheSm screening system based on mutated phenylalanine tRNA synthetase as a counterselection marker to achieve fur deletion mutant. The transformed strain was sensitive to 20 mM p-chloro-phenylalanine, demonstrating the feasibility of pheSm as a counter-selective marker. The pheSm system was used for markerless deletions of glgB, opa, and hyaE as well as fur that could not be screened by the lacZ system. A comparison of screening efficiencies of the system showed that the pheSm counterselection system was more efficient than the lacZ system and broadly applicable for mutant screening. The methods developed herein may provide valuable tools for genetic manipulation of P. multocida.IMPORTANCEPasteurella multocida is a highly contagious zoonotic pathogen. An understanding of its underlying pathogenic mechanisms is of considerable importance and requires efficient species-specific genetic tools. Herein, we propose a screening system for P. multocida mutants using lacZ or pheSm screening markers. We evaluated the efficiencies of both systems, which were used to achieve markerless deletion of multiple genes. The results of this study support the use of lacZ or pheSm as counterselection markers to improve counterselection efficiency in P. multocida. This study provides an effective genetic tool for investigations of the virulence gene functions and pathogenic mechanisms of P. multocida.

Computational micro-spectrometers comprised of detector arrays and encoding structure arrays, such as on-chip Fabry-Perot (FP) cavity filters, have great potential in many in-situ applications owing to their compact size and snapshot imaging ability. Given manufacturing deviation and environmental influence are inevitable, easy and effective calibration for spectrometer is necessary, especially for in-situ applications. Currently calibration strategies based on iterative algorithms or neural networks require accurate measurements of pixel-level (spectral) encoding functions through monochromator or large amounts of standard samples. These procedures are time-consuming and expensive, thereby impeding in-situ applications. Meta-learning algorithms with few-shot learning ability can address this challenge by incorporating the prior knowledge in the simulated dataset. In this work, we propose a meta-learning algorithm free of measuring encoding function or large amounts of standard samples to calibrate a micro-spectrometer with manufacturing deviation effectively. Our micro-spectrometer comprises 16 types of FP filters covering a wavelength range of 550-720 nm. The center wavelength of each filter type deviates from the design up to 6 nm. After calibration with 15 different color data, the average reconstruction error on the test dataset decreased from 7.2 × 10-3 to 1.2 × 10-3, and further decreased to 9.4 × 10-4 when the calibration data increased to 24. The performance is comparable to algorithms trained with measured encoding function both in reconstruction error and generalization ability. We estimated that the cost of in-situ calibration through reflectance measurements of color chart decreased to one percent of the cost through monochromator measurements. By exploiting prior deviation information in simulation data with meta-learning, the efficiency and cost of calibration are significantly improved, thereby facilitating the large-scale production and in-situ application of micro-spectrometers.

OBJECTIVES: This study conducts a systematic bibliometric analysis of tongue cancer publications to identify key topics, hotspots, and research distribution. METHODS: We analyzed tongue cancer publications in the Web of Science core collection database, assessing their quantity and quality. We investigated contributors, including countries, affiliations, journals, authors, and categories, within collaborative networks. Additionally, we synthesized key research findings using various analytical techniques, such as alluvial flow, burstness analysis, cluster analysis, co-occurrence network of associations, and network layer overlay. RESULTS: From 2000 to 2022, this bibliometric study covers 2205 articles and reviews across 617 journals, involving 72 countries, 2233 institutions, and 11,266 authors. It shows consistent growth, particularly in 2016. Key contributors include China (499 publications), Karolinska Institute (84 publications), Oral Oncology (144 publications), and Tuula Salo (47 publications). Other notable contributors are the USA (16,747 citations), the National Cancer Institute (NCI) (2597 citations), and the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) (2231 citations). Additionally, there are significant teams led by Tuula Salo and Dalianis. We have identified six primary clusters: #0 apoptosis, #1 depth of invasion, #2 radiotherapy, #3 hpv, #4 tongue cancer, #5 oral cancer. The top ten highly cited documents primarily pertain to epidemiology, prognostic indicators in early-stage oral tongue cancer, and HPV. Additionally, we observed 16 reference clusters, with depth of invasion (#3), young patients (#4), and tumor budding (#6) gaining prominence since 2012, indicating sustained research interests. CONCLUSIONS: This analysis emphasizes the increasing scholarly interest in tongue cancer research. The bibliometric evaluation highlights pivotal recent research themes such as HPV, depth of invasion, tumor budding, and surgical margins. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: The bibliometric analysis highlights the key topics and studies which have shaped the understanding and management of tongue cancer.

The rapid development of the logistics industry poses significant challenges to the sorting work within this sector. The fast and precise identification of moving express parcels holds immense significance for the performance of logistics sorting systems. This paper proposes a motion express parcel positioning algorithm that combines traditional vision and AI-based vision. In the traditional vision aspect, we employ a brightness-based traditional visual parcel detection algorithm. In the AI vision aspect, we introduce a Convolutional Block Attention Module (CBAM) and Focal-EIoU to enhance YOLOv5, improving the model's recall rate and robustness. Additionally, we adopt an Optimal Transport Assignment (OTA) label assignment strategy to provide a training dataset based on global optimality for the model training phase. Our experimental results demonstrate that our modified AI model surpasses traditional algorithms in both parcel recognition accuracy and inference speed. The combined approach of traditional vision and AI vision in the motion express parcel positioning algorithm proves applicable for practical logistics sorting systems.

INTRODUCTION: The therapeutic effect of probiotics for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) was controversial. This study aims to evaluate the short-term efficacy of Bifidobacterium quadruple viable tablet in patients with diarrhea-predominant IBS and explore factors associated with response to probiotics. METHODS: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicenter trial was performed in 15 hospitals. A total of 290 patients who fulfilled the eligibility criteria were assigned to the probiotics or placebo group randomly with a ratio of 1:1 for a 4-week treatment and a 2-week follow-up. The primary outcome was the response rate. It was regarded as the proportion of patients with composite responses of improvement in both abdominal pain and diarrhea simultaneously. RESULTS: After 4-week continuous administration, the response rates of the probiotics and the placebo were 67.59% and 36.55%, respectively ( P < 0.001). In the probiotics, those with higher abdominal pain scores (2.674 [1.139-6.279]) were more likely to respond, but responders in placebo had lower Hamilton Depression Scale score (0.162 [0.060-0.439]), lower Hamilton Anxiety Scale score (0.335 [0.148-0.755]), and higher degree of bloating (2.718 [1.217-6.074]). Although the diversity of the microbiota was not significantly changed by probiotics, the abundance of bacteria producing short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), including Butyricimonas ( P = 0.048), Pseudobutyrivibrio ( P = 0.005), Barnesiella ( P = 0.020), and Sutterella ( P = 0.020), and the concentration of SCFAs including butyric acid ( P = 0.010), valeric acid ( P = 0.019), and caproic acid ( P = 0.046) in feces increased. DISCUSSION: A Bifidobacterium quadruple viable tablet had a significant short-term efficacy for the treatment of diarrhea-predominant IBS and was more effective in patients with higher abdominal pain scores. This kind of probiotics could improve the abundance of several bacteria producing SCFAs and the concentration of fecal SCFAs compared with placebos.

Neutrophils are critical mediators of host defense in pathogen-induced and sterile inflammation. Excessive neutrophil activation has been associated with increased host pathology through collateral organ damage. The beneficial aspects of neutrophil activation, particularly in sterile inflammation, are less well defined. We observed accumulation of nuclear debris in the lungs of neutropenic mice exposed to acid-induced injury compared with wild type. Size analysis of DNA debris showed that neutropenic mice were unable to degrade extracellular DNA fragments. In addition, we found that neutrophils are able to differentially express DNA-degrading and repair-associated genes and proteins. Once neutrophils are at sites of lung inflammation, they are able to phagocytose and degrade extracellular DNA. This neutrophil-dependent DNA degradation occurs in a MyD88-dependent pathway. The increased DNA debris in neutropenic mice was associated with dysregulated alveolar repair and the phenotype is rescued by intratracheal administration of DNase I. Thus, we show a novel mechanism as part of the inflammatory response, in which neutrophils engulf and degrade extracellular DNA fragments and allow for optimal organ repair.

Taking advantage of broad response range and snap-shot operation mode, reconstructive spectrometers based on integrated frequency-modulation microstructure and computational techniques attract lots of attention. The key problems in reconstruction are sparse samplings related with the limited detectors and generalization ability due to data-driving principle. Here, we demonstrate abstractly a mid-infrared micro-spectrometer covering 2.5-5 µm, which utilizes a grating-integrated lead selenide detector array for sampling and a hierarchal residual convolutional neural network (HRCNN) for reconstructions. Leveraging data augmentation and the powerful feature extraction ability of HRCNN, a spectral resolution of 15 nm is realized. Over one hundred chemicals, including untrained chemicals species tested with an average reconstruction error of ∼1E-4, exhibit the excellent reliability of the micro-spectrometer. The demonstration of the micro-spectrometer promotes the development of the reconstructed strategy.

Controlling the bandwidth and directionality of thermal emission is important for a broad range of applications, from imaging and sensing to energy harvesting. Here, we propose a new, to the best of our knowledge, type of long-wavelength infrared narrowband thermal emitter that is basically composed of aperiodic Tamm plasmon polariton structures. Compared to the thermal emitter based on periodic structures, more parameters need to be considered. An inverse design algorithm instead of traditional forward methodologies is employed to do the geometric parameter optimization. Both theoretical and experimental results show that the thermal emitter exhibits a narrowband thermal emission peak at the wavelength of 8.6 µm in the normal direction. The angular response of emission properties of the thermal emitter is dependent on the emission angle. We believe that our proposed thermal emitter provides an alternative for low-cost, high-effective narrowband mid-infrared light sources and would have a great potential in many applications.

The application of plasmonic structure has been demonstrated to improve the performance of infrared photodetectors. However, the successful experimental realization of the incorporation of such optical engineering structure into HgCdTe-based photodetectors has rarely been reported. In this paper, we present a HgCdTe infrared photodetector with integrated plasmonic structure. The experimental results show that the device with plasmonic structure has a distinct narrowband effect with a peak response rate close to 2 A/W, which is nearly 34% higher compared with the reference device. The simulation results are in good agreement with the experiment, and an analysis of the effect of the plasmonic structure is given, demonstrating the crucial role of the plasmonic structure in the enhancement of the device performance.

Oxygen defects are among essential issues and required to be manipulated in correlated electronic oxides with insulator-metal transition (IMT). Besides, surface and interface control are necessary but challenging in field-induced electronic switching towards advanced IMT-triggered transistors and optical modulators. Herein, we demonstrated reversible entropy-driven oxygen defect migrations and reversible IMT suppression in vanadium dioxide (VO2 ) phase-change electronic switching. The initial IMT was suppressed with oxygen defects, which is caused by the entropy change during reversed surface oxygen ionosorption on the VO2 nanostructures. This IMT suppression is reversible and reverts when the adsorbed oxygen extracts electrons from the surface and heals defects again. The reversible IMT suppression observed in the VO2 nanobeam with M2 phase is accompanied by large variations in the IMT temperature. We also achieved irreversible and stable IMT by exploiting an Al2 O3 partition layer prepared by atomic layer deposition (ALD) to disrupt the entropy-driven defect migration. We expected that such reversible modulations would be helpful for understanding the origin of surface-driven IMT in correlated vanadium oxides, and constructing functional phase-change electronic and optical devices.

BACKGROUND: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of different vaginal administration on cervical persistent high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) infection after excisional treatment for high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL). METHODS: Six databases (PubMed, EmBase, Cochrane Central, China Knowledge Network database, China Biomedical Literature Service, and WanFang database) were searched to collect randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of various types of vaginal administration compared to no treatment on persistent HR-HPV infection after HSIL excisional treatment, and comprehensive analysis of the clearance of different drugs on HR-HPV was performed using Bayesian reticulation meta-analysis. RESULTS: The study analyzed the efficacy of eight interventions, including Interferon, Baofukang, Paiteling, Bletilla striata Sanhuang Powder, Lactobacilli vaginal capsules, Fuanning + Interferon, Interferon + Lactobacilli vaginal capsules, and Interferon + Baofukang, on the clearance of HR-HPV after excisional treatment through pooling and analyzing data from 52 RCTs. The results of the study demonstrated that Interferon + Lactobacilli vaginal capsules [OR 16.0 (95% CIs 8.1-32.0)], Interferon + Fuanning [OR 16.0 (95% CIs 1.1-52.0)], and Interferon + Baofukang [OR 14.0 (95% CIs 6.8-28.0)] were all found to significantly improve postoperative HR-HPV clearance rates when compared to no treatment. Furthermore, when studies with high-risk bias were excluded, Interferon + Lactobacilli vaginal capsules [OR 8.6 (95% CIs 4.7-19.0)] and Interferon + Baofukang [OR 22.0 (95% CIs 8.7-59.0)] were still found to be positively associated with increased postoperative HR-HPV clearance rate. Additionally, the study´s results also indicate that Interferon + Baofukang was effective in enhancing the postoperative HR-HPV clearance rates, mainly when the studies were restricted to a follow-up period of at least 12 months [OR 9.6 (95% CIs 2.9-34.0)]. However, it is important to note that the majority of the trials (29 out of 52, 51.6%) were rated as moderate to high risk of bias, and the certainty of the evidence was moderate to very low. CONCLUSION: The application of various forms of vaginal administration, except for individual use of Lactobacilli vaginal capsules, is more efficacious than no treatment in patients with cervical persistent HR-HPV infection after excisional treatment. However, all of the estimates of the effect size for change in the efficiency of HR-HPV clearance are uncertain. Our confidence in effect estimates and ranking of treatments is low, which needs larger, more rigorous, and longer follow-up RCTs to resolve.

Haloacetonitriles (HANs) are a group of disinfection byproducts with high toxicity and frequent occurrence. Past studies have focused on the free amine groups, especially those in amino acids, as HAN precursors. This study reports, for the first time, that the indole moiety such as that in the tryptophan side chain is also a potent precursor for the most common HANs dichloroacetonitrile, bromochloroacetonitrile, and dibromoacetonitrile. 3-Indolepropionic acid, differing from tryptophan only in the absence of the free amine group, formed HANs at levels 57-76% of those by tryptophan at a halogen/nitrogen molar ratio of 10. Experiments with tryptophan-(amino-15N) showed that the indole contributed to 28-51% of the HANs formed by tryptophan. At low oxidant excess (e.g., halogen/precursor = 5), 3-indolepropionic acid even formed more HANs than Trp by 3.5-, 2.5-, and 1.8-fold during free chlorination, free bromination, and chlorination in the presence of bromide (0.6 mg/L), respectively. Indole's HAN formation pathway was investigated by exploring the chlorination/bromination products of 3-indolepropionic acid using liquid chromatography-orbitrap high-resolution mass spectrometry. A total of 22 intermediates were detected, including pyrrole ring-opening products with an N-formyl group, 2-substituted anilines with different hydroxyl/halogen substitutions, and an intermediate with a postulated non-aromatic ring structure.

BACKGROUND: Due to complex pathophysiology of functional dyspepsia, medications to treat functional dyspepsia are not effective for all patients. Transcutaneous electrical acustimulation (TEA) is an potentially effective therapy for functional dyspepsia without proofs of definite mechanisms. AIMS: We aimed to investigate the therapeutic impacts of TEA on postprandial distress syndrome (PDS) and explore potential neuroimmune mechanisms. METHODS: We conducted a double-blinded, randomized, controlled trial in 30 PDS patients randomized for 4-week TEA or sham-TEA. Dyspeptic symptoms, gastric accommodation, gastric emptying and heart rate variability (HRV) were assessed. Duodenal mucosal inflammation was also evaluated. RESULTS: The dyspeptic symptoms were improved with TEA compared with sham-TEA (P = 0.03). The initial satiety volume and the maximum tolerable volume (MTV) were both improved after the TEA treatment, compared with the sham-TEA group (P all < 0.05). The gastric emptying time (T1/2) was not altered with TEA or sham-TEA. The TEA treatment increased vagal activity and decreased sympathovagal ratio assessed by HRV (P all < 0.01). The IL-6 expression in bulb mucosa was downregulated by the TEA treatment compared to the baseline (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Noninvasive TEA improves gastric accommodation and dyspeptic symptoms, possibly by downregulating the IL-6 expression in duodenal bulb mucosa via the vagal efferent pathway.

PURPOSE: A systematic review of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) was conducted to assess the potential effect of therapeutic massage/Tuina on functional dyspepsia (FD) patients. METHOD: Twelve databases and three clinical trial registries were searched until December 2021, for RCTs that compared Tuina combined with or without conventional therapy versus conventional therapy in FD. We assessed the methodological quality of included trials by the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool, and graded the quality of the evidence. The data were presented as risk ratio (RR) or mean difference (MD) respectively with their 95% confidence interval (CI). RESULTS: In total, 14 RCTs with 1128 FD participants were included. Compared with conventional therapy, Tuina showed significant beneficial effects on improving overall symptom (RR = 1.12, 95% CI 1.06 to 1.19, low certainty evidence), and early satiation (MD -0.44 scores, 95% CI -0.72 to -0.16, very low certainty evidence). Compared with conventional therapy, Tuina plus conventional therapy also significantly improved overall symptom (RR = 1.14, 95% CI 1.06-1.23, low certainty evidence), quality of life (MD 10.44 scores, 95% CI 7.65-13.23, low certainty evidence), and epigastric pain (MD -0.76 scores, 95% CI -1.11 to -0.41, low certainty evidence). No adverse events related to Tuina and cost-effectiveness were reported. CONCLUSION: Low certainty evidence showed that Tuina significantly improved overall symptom of FD participants compared with conventional therapy. Low certainty evidence showed that Tuina plus conventional therapy obviously improved overall symptom and quality of life of FD participants compared with conventional therapy.

INTRODUCTION: Slow colon transit and visceral hypersensitivity are recognized as major pathophysiological mechanisms in irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C). However, there is a lack of therapies targeting both abdominal pain and colonic motility. This study was designed to investigate the long-term effects and possible mechanisms of transcutaneous electrical acustimulation (TEA) in patients with IBS-C. METHODS: Fifty-two patients with IBS-C were randomized into 2 groups: daily TEA for 4 weeks (n = 26) and daily sham-TEA for 4 weeks (n = 26). The number of complete spontaneous bowel movements per week (CSBMs/week, primary outcome), Irritable Bowel Syndrome Severity Scoring System, Patient Assessment of Constipation Quality of Life, visual analog scale (VAS) pain score, colonic transit time, and anorectal physiology were evaluated before treatment and at the end of the treatment. Colonic transit was assessed with radiopaque markers. Electrocardiograms were recorded for assessing autonomic functions. RESULTS: (i) TEA improved constipation and abdominal pain. After the treatment, the number of CSBMs/week during the last week in the TEA group was higher than that in the sham-TEA group (3.5 ± 1.6 vs 2.3 ± 0.6, P = 0.002). Similar effects were also noted in the visual analog scale pain score ( P = 0.002) and Irritable Bowel Syndrome Severity Scoring System score ( P = 0.025). In addition, there was a significant improvement in the quality of life of patients with constipation. The Patient Assessment of Constipation Quality of Life total score was significantly decreased in the TEA group ( P = 0.004). (ii) Compared with sham-TEA, TEA improved colon transit ( P = 0.002) and increased the threshold of rectal sensation (desire to defecate, P = 0.004; maximum tolerability, P < 0.001). (iii) TEA increased vagal activity, compared with sham-TEA ( P < 0.05); at the end of the treatment, the vagal activity was significantly correlated with colon transit and the CSBMs/week. DISCUSSION: TEA improves constipation and symptoms of IBS by accelerating colon transit and reducing rectal sensation, possibly mediated by using the autonomic mechanisms.

Thermal infrared camouflage as a kind of counter-surveillance technique has attracted much attention owing to the rapid development of infrared surveillance technology. Various artificial optical structures have been developed for infrared camouflage applications under cold ambient environment (low thermal radiation), but the realization of infrared camouflage under a hot environment (high thermal radiation) is also highly desirable and has been rarely reported. Here, a lithography-free, ultra-thin, high performance long-wavelength infrared (LWIR) selective emitter for thermal infrared camouflage in a high radiation environment is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. Experimental results show that our designed selective emitter exhibits average emissivity higher than 90% over the LWIR range from 8 to 14 µm and low emissivity less than 35% outside this window. Numerical simulations were performed to optimize the geometrical structures and reveal that such a selective emission effect is attributed to the combination of multiple hybrid plasmonic resonances. LWIR thermal images show that the selective emitter can perfectly blend into the high radiation backgrounds. Furthermore, it is found that the sample displays angle-independent emission properties, indicating that our emitter offers great potential for application in evading large-angle detection.
