Taibai Beimu (Fritillaria taipaiensis) is a species of Fritillaria commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine for its antitussive, expectorant, and antihypertensive properties. In April of 2021 and 2022, an incidence 10-30% of yellowing or purpling, wilting, and dying symptoms was observed on Taibai Beimu in Wanyuan, Sichuan province. Infected roots and bulbs displayed spots ranging from brown to black, along with necrotic rot. In severe cases, the entire bulbs rotted. Fifteen symptomatic bulbs were cut into 0.5 × 0.5 cm pieces, surface sterilized in 75% ethanol for 30 s and 1% sodium hypochlorite for 3 min under aseptic conditions, rinsed with sterile water 3 times, and air-dried. The segments were placed on potato dextrose agar (PDA) and incubated at 25℃ for 7 days in the dark. Six Clonostachys-like monospore isolates were obtained. Colonies on PDA reached 32 to 43 mm in diameter in 7 days at 25℃ in the dark, felty to tomentose to granulose aerial mycelia with a white or light yellow appearance, and reverse colors matching. On cornmeal-dextrose agar, primary conidiophores had a Verticillium-like structure with 1 to 3 levels. Stipes were 36.1 to 236.3µm long. Phialides formed in whorls of 2 to 5, 15.3 to 45.7µm long, 1.1 to 3.4µm wide at the base, and 1.03 to 2.41µm wide near opening (n=95). Each producing a small hyaline drop of conidia. Conidia were 3.7 to 11.3µm × 2.1 to 4.1µm (n=110). Secondary conidiophores displayed Penicillium-like structures, and stipes were 23.1 to 142.3µm long. Phialides formed in compressed whorls of 4 to 8 per metula, 7.0 to 16.0µm in length, 1.3 to 3.1µm in width at the base, 1.8 to 3.6µm at the widest point, and 0.8 to 1.8µm near opening (n=50). Conidia were 3.0 to 6.4µm ×1.6 to 3.4µm (n=65). The morphology was consistent with the previous description of Clonostachys rosea (Hans-Josef et al. 1999). The ATP citrate lyase (ACL1), ß-tubulin (TUB2), translation elongation factor 1-α (tef1α), and the nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS) of three strains were amplified and sequenced using primers acl1-230up/acl1-1220low (Gräfenhan et al. 2011), T1/CYLTUB1R (Crous et al. 2004; O'Donnell and Cigelnik 1997), EF1-728F/EF2 (Carbone and Kohn 1999; O'Donnell et al. 1998), and ITS1/ITS4 (White et al. 1990), respectively. Blastn homology search showed a > 97% similarity to the ex-type strains of C. rosea (CBS710.86). All sequences have been deposited in GenBank (PP394342 to PP394350, and PP396901 to PP396903). A phylogenetic tree was constructed using Bayesian analysis based on the alignment of the combined ACL1, TUB2, tef1α, and ITS sequences through IQ-TREE. The tree displayed clustering with known strains of C. rosea. Pathogenicity was confirmed by inoculating five healthy five-year-old Taibai beimu plants with a spore suspension (1.0 × 106 spores mL-1) of the strain WYEB1101, while sterilized water was used as a control. The inoculation process involved pouring the spore suspension over the wounded bulbs and covering with them sterile soil. Subsequently, all plants were cultivated in sterile soil indoors under natural conditions suitable for Taibai beimu. The pathogenicity assays were repeated twice. After 20 days of cultivation, the infected plants displayed symptoms similar to those observed in the field, while all control plants remained asymptomatic. Sequencing confirmed the re-isolation of C. rosea from the inoculated plants, satisfying Koch's hypothesis. Clonostachys rosea has been previously reported to cause root rot of Chinese medicine herb, such as Astragalus membranaceus and Gastrodia elata (Lee et al. 2020; Qi et al. 2022). To our knowledge, this is the first report of C. rosea infecting Taibai Beimu in China, highlighting a potential risk to this crop.

Aconitum carmichaelii Debeaux is used as a traditional Chinese medicine with antiarrhythmic, antiinflammatory and other pharmacological functions. It is widely cultivated in China. According to our survey, about 60% of A. carmichaelii in Qingchuan, Sichuan, suffered from root rot, reducing yields by 30% in the past five years. Symptomatic plants exhibited stunted growth, dark brown roots, reduced root biomass, and fewer root hairs. The disease caused root rot and plant death in 50% of the infected plants. In October 2019, ten symptomatic 6-month-old plants were collected from fields in Qingchuan. Diseased pieces of the roots were surface sterilized with sodium hypochlorite solution (2%), rinsed three times in sterile water, plated on potato dextrose agar (PDA), and incubated at 25°C in the dark. Six single-spore isolates of a Cylindrocarpon-like anamorp were obtained. The colonies on PDA were 35 to 37 mm diam after seven days with regular margins. The plates were covered with felty aerial mycelium, white to buff, and the reverse side chestnut near center with a ochre to yellowish leading edge. On spezieller nährstoffarmer agar (SNA), macroconidia were 1 to 3 septate, straight or slightly curved, cylindrical, with rounded ends, and varied in size: 1-septate 15.1 to 33.5 × 3.7 to 7.3 µm (n=250), 2-septate 16.5 to 48.5 × 3.7 to 7.6 µm (n=85), and 3-septate 22.0 to 50.6 × 4.9 to 7.4 µm (n=115). Microconidia were ellipsoid to ovoid, and 0 to 1 septate; aseptate spores were 4.5 to 16.8 × 1.6 to 4.9 µm (n=200), and 1-septate spores were 7.4 to 20.0 × 2.4 to 5.1 µm (n=200). The chlamydospores were brown, thick-walled, globose to subglobose, 7.9 to 15.9 µm (n=50). The morphology of these isolates was consistent with the previous description of Ilyonectria robusta (Cabral et al. 2012). Isolate QW1901 was characterized by sequencing the ITS, TUB, H3, and tef1α loci using previously reported primer pairs: ITS1/ITS4 (White et al. 1990), T1/Bt-2b (O'Donnell and Cigelnik 1997), CYLH3F/CYLH3R (Crous et al. 2004), and EF1/EF2 (O'Donnell et al. 1998). A Blastn search of the sequences of ITS, TUB, H3, and tef1α showed that QW1901 shared 99.26, 97.89, 97.79, and 99.17 % identities, respectively, with the ex-type strain of I. robusta (CBS308.35). The ITS, TUB, H3, and tef1α sequences were deposited in GenBank under accession nos. MW534715, and MW880180 to MW880182, respectively. A phylogenetic tree was constructed from a neighbor-joining analysis on the alignment of the combined ITS, TUB, H3, and tef1α sequence. QW1901 was clustered with the ex-type strain of I. robusta. To confirm the pathogenicity of I. robusta, bare roots of healthy 6-month-old A. carmichaelii were inoculated with mycelial plugs of 7-day-old QW1901 colonies selected randomly (Lu et al. 2015). Five needle-wound lateral roots and five intact roots were inoculated as replicates with pathogen-free agar plugs as a control. Then, all plants were grown in sterile soil in a growth chamber at 20±1°C and watered regularly. Pathogenicity assays were repeated twice. After 20 days of cultivation, infected plants exhibited symptoms similar to those observed in the field. All control plants remained asymptomatic. Sequencing confirmed the re-isolation of I. robusta from the inoculated plants, satisfying Koch's hypothesis. Ilyonectria robusta has been reported to cause root rot of plants such as Codonopsis tangshen and Panax ginseng ( Lu et al. 2015; Zheng et al. 2021), and has also been reported to be isolated from Aconitum kongboense in China (Wang et al. 2015). However, this is the first report of the pathogen causing root rot of A. carmichaelii. Management measures, such as growing disease-free seedlings in sterile soil, should be used to minimize the risk of this pathogen.

Sichuan province is very famous for its abundant resources of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM).However, within the scope of administrative division of Sichuan province, the origin records of Dao-di herbs in different historical periods show a dynamic distribution process. On the basis of carefully sorting out the geographical scope of Sichuan province in different historical periods, this article focuses on the textual research of the Dao-di herbs in Sichuan province recorded in the seven mainstream ancient works of materia medica.The results showed that, according to the records of Mingyi bielu and Bencaojing Jizhu, the main distribution areas of Dao-di herbs were mainly in the central and eastern regions of Sichuan province, mainly including Moschus, Coptidis Rhizoma, Zingiberis Rhizoma, Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata and most of the rest materia medica had become unused in the historical process. Qianjin Yifang records that the distribution areas of Dao-di herbs were mainly in the middle and eastern part of Sichuan province.Aconiti Radix, Lateralis Radix Praeparata, Zingiberis Rhizoma, Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix are still the Dao-di herbs of Sichuan province. According to the book of Bencao Tujing,the main distribution areas of Dao-di herbs are Chengdu Plain, Yibin and Santai, While Toosendan Fructus, Chuanxiong Rhizoma, Zanthoxyli Pericarpium, Aconiti Radix are still the Dao-di herbs of Sichuan province. Ben Cao Gang Mu records the place of origin as Sichuan.Coptidis Rhizoma, Toosendan Fructus, Cyathulae Radix are still the Dao-di herbs of Sichuan pro-vince. Yaowu Chuchanbian and Zengding Weiyao Tiaobian records the place of origin as Sichuan, as well as Kangding, Songpan, Dujiang-yan, Jiangyou, Nanchong, Ya'an, etc. Moschus, Coptidis Rhizoma, Eucommiae Cortex, Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex are still the Dao-di herbs of Sichuan province. The results of this article provide a new understanding of the history and distribution changes of Dao-di herbs in Sichuan province, and can help to further understand the formation connotation of Sichuan Dao-di herbs.

Dao-di herbs are the Chinese herbs which have high quality and best clinic effects. Sichuan is one of the proviences most rich in Chinese herb resources,which has 7 290 species of Chinese herbs, such as Curcumae Longae Rhizoma, Chuanxiong Rhizoma, Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, Ophiopogonis Radix, Coptidis Rhizoma, Gentianae Radix, Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, Curcumae Rhizoma, Gardeniae Fructus, ect. After textual research on materia medica of the 7 290 Chinese herbs, we find there are 86 Dao-di herbs in Sichuan, such as Chuanxiong Rhizoma from Dujiangyan, Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata from Jiangyou, Fritillariae Radix, Notoptergii Rhizoma et Radix, Angelicae Dahuricae Radix from Suining, Ophiopogonis Radix from Santai, Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma from Zhongjiang, Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex from Pingwu. In China more attention is paid to the production of Dao-di herbs. In 2018, the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine launched the "Construction Plan of national production base of genuine medicinal materials". Developing genuine medicinal materials in genuine production areas is one of the effective ways to ensure the quality of medicinal materials. Based on the study of geographical environment and ecological factors(altitude, climate, soil) in Sichuan province. The Dao-di herbs of Sichuan province are divided into 4 districts, including, Sichuan basin medicinal materials production area, mountain and the basin edge medicinal materials production area, Panxi medicinal materials production area, Plateau Mountain Canyon medicinal materials production area. The suitable regions and best suitable regions of the 86 Dao-di herbs in Sichuan are determined by remote sensing and GIS spatial analysis of the suitable environmental indicators of these Dao-di herbs. Our study is beneficial to the rational distribution of the production and to improvement of the quality of traditional Chinese medicine in Sichuan province.

Guided by the basic theory of traditional Chinese medicine and using modern scientific methods, Dao-di herbs pharmacology studies the nature, performance, interaction with the body and its clinical application.It is a bridge between the basic research and clinical application of Dao-di herbs. It can objectively describe the law of efficacy of Dao-di herbs, scientifically explain the mechanism of efficacy of Dao-di herbs, explore and establish the standards and methods of Dao-di herbs based on biological effect and clinical efficacy, and provide scientific basis for the special properties, pharmacology and clinical value of Dao-di herbs.Furthermore, we put forward a new idea of building the standard of Dao-di herbs based on the curative effect rather than the origin.The Dao-di herbs standard should come from the systematic research of traditional Dao-di herbs producing areas and form a new characteristic system, through the extraction of environmental, genetic, character, chemical, pharmacological and other characteristics.This standard originates from the tradition, but it is higher than the tradition. It may not have the origin meaning of strict administrative division, but it can better reflect the pharmacological characteristics and excellent clinical value of Dao-di herbs.

Paris yunnanensis is a kind of rare medicinal herb, having a very high medicinal value. Studying its suitable ecological condition can provide a basis for its rational exploitation, artificial cultivation, and sustainable utilization. A practicable method in this paper has been proposed to research the suitable regional distribution of P. yunnanensis in Sichuan province. By the case study of P. yunnanensis in Sichuan province, and according to related literatures, the suitable ecological condition of P. yunnanensis such as altitude, mean annual temperature (MAT), annual precipitation, regional slope, slope ranges, vegetative cover, and soil types was analyzed following remote sensing (RS) and GIS.The appropriate distribution regionof P. yunnanensis and its area were extracted based on RS and GIS technology,combing with the information of the field validation data. The results showed that the concentrated distribution regions in counties of Sichuan province were, Liangshan prefecture, Aba prefecture, Sertar county of Ganzi prefecture, Panzhihua city, Ya'an city, Chengdu city, Meishan city, Leshan city, Yibin city, Neijiang city, Luzhou city, Bazhong city, Nanchong city, Guangyuan city and other cities and counties area.The suitable distribution area in Sichuan is about 7 338 km², accounting for 3.02% of the total study regional area. The analysis result has high consistency with the filed validation data, and the research method for P. yunnanensis distribution region based onspatial overlay analysis and the extracted the information of land usage and ecological factors following the RS and GIS is reliable.

Swertia mussotii is a kind of rare medicinal materials, the relevant researches are mainly concentrated on its medicinal efficacy and medicinal value till now, researches of adaptive distribution by applying remote sensing and GIS are relatively less. This study is to analyze the adaptive distribution of S.mussotii in Sichuan province by applying remote sensing and GIS technology, and provide scientific basis for the protection and development of wild resources, artificial cultivation and adjustment of Chinese medicine industrial distribution in Sichuan province. Based on literature review and ecological factors such as altitude, annual precipitation and annual average temperature, this study extracted ecological factors, overlay analysis in GIS, as well as combining GPS field validation data by means of remote sensing and GIS, discusses the adaptive distribution of SMF sin Sichuan province. ①The area of adaptive distribution of S. mussotii in Sichuan province is 1 543.749 km², mainly in Dege county, Ganzi county, Daofu county, Kangding county, Barkam, Jinchuan county, Xiaojin county, Danba county, Daocheng county, Xiangcheng county, Xinlong county, Aba county, Muli county and other counties and cities, accounts for about 7.25% in total area. ② Combining statistical information and field validation, this study found that S. mussotii adaptive distribution gained by remote sensing and GIS is in conformity with its actual distribution. The study shows that remote sensing and GIS technology are feasible to obtain the S. mussotii adaptive distribution, they can further be applied to studies on adaptive distributions of other rare Chinese medicinal herb.

Grifola umbellate is the important medicinal materials in China which has a very high medicinal value. This study analyzedthe suitable distribution areasof G. umbellate and provided scientific basis for determining G. umbellate planting regions and planning production distribution reasonably. The suitable distribution areas of G. umbellate in Sichuan province was researched based on TM, ETM+, and DEM data,the key ecological factors that affect the growth of G. umbellate were extracted, including elevation, slope, aspect, average annual temperature,average annual precipitation,forest information,soil information, following remote sensing and GIS techniques, combining field researchdata. The results showed that the G. umbellate resources in Sichuan province were mainly distributed in Pingwu, Beichuan, Licountry, Yanyuan, Xichang, Dechang, Yanbian, Miyi, Huidong, Panzhihua and so on, the suitability distribution areas is 276.214 4 km² approximately and accounting for more than 0.143 3% of the total area.According to the related document information and the field investigation, showed that the suitability distribution based on RS and GIS were corresponded with the actual distribution areas of G. umbellate.

Notopterygium incisum is the important medicinal materials of the Tibetan-Qiang medical system in China, also one of the rare and endangered medicinal materials in the Plateau areas in the meantime. Taking the planting of in Sichuan province as an example, research on the N. incisum in Sichuan utilize remote sensing and GIS techniques, bind growth environment factor, including height factor, average annual precipitation, average annual temperature, forest information, were chosen according to habitat conditions. And combine field measurement to verify. The results indicate that N. incisum resources in Sichuan province were mainly distributed in the alpine valley and the northwest of the plateau, which suitability distribution areas of 4145 km2 approximately and accounting for 2% of the total area. Suitability areas accounting for more than 2% of the respective total area in Heishui county, Lixian county, Xiaojin county, Kangding county, ect. According to the field investigation and the related document information record, drawn that the suitability distribution based on RS and GIS were corresponded with the actual distribution areas of N. incisum resources. It's feasible to divide the suitability distribution area of N. incisum using RS and GIS, which will provide a scientific basis for a comprehensive investigation of the distribution as well as its rational exploitation and protection.

The herbs used as the material for traditional Chinese medicine are mostly planted at mountain areas where there is appropriate weather condition. Due to the complex terrain condition in mountain area, the planting at such places is always associated with a scattered pattern, which inevitably bring difficulty to the work of accurate measurement for the planting area. Advanced research about monitoring the planting area for medicine-herb under complex environmental condition is so critical and meaningful for developing the medicine-herb planting to a large scale and an industry. Therefore, this research, taking the planting of Herpetospermum pedunculosum in Luding county as an example, utilizes RS&GIS: using the image data from TM and ETM datum as the remote sensing information source, integrating GPS data from quadrat survey on the spots, and analyzing on a GIS platform, to extract the planting area of H. pedunculosum in Luding county. The results indicate that: (1) the method and technology used to estimate the planting area of H. pedunculosum are feasible and can be applied to monitoring the planting area of medicine-herb at mountain area under complex environmental conditions: (2) the planting area of H. pedunculosum in Luding county is estimated to be 857. 246 acres by the methods utilized in this research, which is closed to the value from local statistical data with an error range less than 5%; (3) in consideration of those inevitable errorrs generating from the procedures such as remote sensing data acquisition, data preprocessing, data interpretation, and so on, and the fact that the classification of remote sensing data, which must be implemented by those above procedures, was used directly to extract the herb type, the accuracy of area estimation for the herb is significantly influenced by the accuracy of classification for herb type, and the estimated area is inevitably associated with some error.

The paper is aimed to study the dynamic accumulation regulation of curcumin (Cur), demethoxycurcumin (DMC) and bisdemethoxyeurcumin (BDMC) in three strains of Curcuma longa, and provide scientific references for formalized cultivation, timely harvesting, quality control and breeding cultivation of C. longa. The accumulation regulation of the three curcumin derivatives was basically the same in rhizome of three strains. The relative contents decreased along with plant development growing, while the accumulation per hectare increased with plant development growing. The accumulation of curcuminoids per hectare could be taken as the assessment standard for the best harvest time of C. longa. A3 was the best strain in terms of Cur and BDMC content.

Chinese medical machine reading comprehension question-answering (cMed-MRCQA) is a critical component of the intelligence question-answering task, focusing on the Chinese medical domain question-answering task. Its purpose enable machines to analyze and understand the given text and question and then extract the accurate answer. To enhance cMed-MRCQA performance, it is essential to possess a profound comprehension and analysis of the context, deduce concealed information from the textual content and, subsequently, precisely determine the answer's span. The answer span has predominantly been defined by language items, with sentences employed in most instances. However, it is worth noting that sentences may not be properly split to varying degrees in various languages, making it challenging for the model to predict the answer zone. To alleviate this issue, this paper presents a novel architecture called HCT based on a Hierarchically Collaborative Transformer. Specifically, we presented a hierarchical collaborative method to locate the boundaries of sentence and answer spans separately. First, we designed a hierarchical encoding module to obtain the local semantic features of the corpus; second, we proposed a sentence-level self-attention module and a fused interaction-attention module to get the global information about the text. Finally, the model is trained by combining loss functions. Extensive experiments were conducted on the public dataset CMedMRC and the reconstruction dataset eMedicine to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method. Experimental results showed that the proposed method performed better than the state-of-the-art methods. Using the F1 metric, our model scored 90.4% on the CMedMRC and 73.2% on eMedicine.

Angelica dahurica (Fisch. ex Hoffm.) Benth.et Hook.f.var.formosana (Boiss.) Shan et Yuan (A. dahurica) is a well-known medicinal plant that has a wide range of applications in the pharmaceutical, food, cosmetic, and other industries. However, the issue of early bolting has emerged as a major hindrance to its production. This problem not only reduces the yield of A. dahurica, but also has an impact on its active ingredients. To date, the molecular factors that contribute to early bolting and its impact on the growth of A. dahurica have not been thoroughly investigated. Therefore, we conducted a transcriptome study using the Illumina NovaSeq 6000 on two developmental types: early-bolting and non-bolting (normal) roots of A. dahurica. We obtained 2,185 up-regulated and 1,414 down-regulated genes in total. Many of the identified transcripts were related to genes involved in early bolting. The gene ontology analysis revealed several differentially expressed genes that are crucial in various pathways, primarily associated with cellular, molecular, and biological processes. Additionally, the morphological characteristics and coumarin content in the early bolting roots of A. dahurica were significantly altered. This study provides insight into the transcriptomic regulation of early bolting in A. dahurica, which can potentially be utilized to enhance its medicinal properties.

The genuine Chinese medicinal (GCM), also known as Dao-di Herbs, is a synonym for high quality Chinese medicinal materials, which has been established in thousands of years of clinical practice and is a comprehensive standard for evaluating the quality of Chinese medicinal materials. The newest data from the Fourth National Survey of Chinese Medicinal Resources showed that Sichuan Province has 7290 types of Chinese medicine and 86 GCM, both ranking highly in China. The characteristics like diverse species, wide distribution, higher yield, and good quality are considered as advantages of geo-herbals grown in Sichuan. Resources guarantee and high-quality development of those medicine materials make a difference in local Chinese medicine quality promotion and Chinese medicine industry and technology development to serve the public's needs, assist targeted poverty alleviation, and strengthen ecological protection. This review aims to outline significant progress in the recent ten years regarding regionalization, germplasm resources, and quality evaluation around the quality assurance of GCM in Sichuan, China.

The objective of this study was to investigate the concentrations of inorganic elements in the rhizome of Paris polyphylla Smith var. chinensis (Franch.) Hara of different planting years and cultivation conditions. Twenty-five inorganic elements including Al, As, B, Ba, Be, Bi, Ca, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, K, Li, Mg, Mn, Na, Ni, P, Pb, Se, Sr, Ti, V, and Zn in the rhizome were determined by using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). The analytical method was validated by measuring several parameters including linearity, correlation coefficient, limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantification (LOQ), and recovery. The linear working ranges were three, 0-300 µg/L, 0-500 µg/L, and 0-1000 µg/L, and the correlation coefficients (r) values were higher than 0.998. LOD varied from 0.001 µg/L (Be) to 11.957 µg/L (P), and LOQ varied from 0.003 µg/L (Be) to 35.870 µg/L (P). The recoveries spanned from 95.2 (Co) to 105.3% (Pb). Validation parameters showed the possibility of using whole of the sample preparation procedures used in this study. Based on the determined results, it is indicated that the toxic elements As, Cd, and Pb had no ingestion risk. The planting years and cultivation conditions had significant effects on the concentrations of inorganic elements of P. polyphylla var. chinensis. The concentrations of inorganic elements in cultivated samples were different from those in wild samples. The results can provide useful theoretical basis for the quality control and rational use of P. polyphylla var. chinensis.

OBJECTIVE: To provide a scientific basis for standardizing the cultivation method for Curcuma longa. METHOD: Plant heights and seeding numbers were sampled periodically, the plot yields were counted a tharvested. RESULT: The effects of seeding method on yields, plant height and number were significant. The effects of different sowing ways on the yields were very little. CONCLUSION: The hole seeding method using mother tuber or blastostyle bearing three to four knots was shown to be the best may, worthy to be widely applied in production.

OBJECTIVE: To provide some new evidences for the classification and identification of medicinal materials of Curcuma. METHOD: The optical microscope and electronic microsccopic scaning were used to characterize the leaves of Curcuma. RESULT AND CONCLUSION: There were no obvious histological and morphological differences among the leaves of Curcuma. But the differences in the hair distribution, stoma density and size , shape and size of epidermic cells could be considered to be the main features for the microscopic identification of leaves of Curcuma.

OBJECTIVE: To provide some new evidences for the identification of medicinal materials of Curcuma. METHOD: Microscopic observation was made to characterize the rhizomes of Curcuma. RESULT AND CONCLUSION: There were no obvious histological and morphological differences among the rhizomes of Curcuma. The distribution of oil cells and vascular bundles as well as the number and diameter of xylem vessels were considered to be the distinguishing features of their rhizomes.

OBJECTIVE: To provide some new evidences for the classfication and identification of medicinal plants of Curcuma. METHOD: A numerical taxonomy by means of cluster analysis and principal Component analysis is used. Combined with RAPD analysis, computer image analysis and chemical analysis, the taxonomical relationships of the plants of Curcuma in China were characterized qualitatively and quantitatively. RESULT AND CONCLUSION: The plants of Curcuma is systematized into 9 species, 1 species complex, 3 cultivated varieties. A lot of taxonomic confusion and disputations were consequently expounded.
