RESUMEN

Tin phosphide (Sn4P3) holds great promise because sodium-ion batteries use this material as an anode with impressive theoretical capacity. In this paper, it is reported that Co-doped Sn4P3 is embedded into carbon-based materials and SnCoP/C with a porous skeleton is prepared. As a result, SnCoP/C-2, as the material utilized in sodium-ion battery anodes, exhibits reversible capacities at 415.6, 345.9, and 315.6 mAh g-1 at current intensities of 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 A g-1, respectively. The electrochemical reversibility, cycle stability, and rate performance of SnCoP/C samples are obviously better than those of Sn4P3/C. Cobalt in SnCoP/C stabilizes the conductive matrix of tin phosphide and promotes the diffusion kinetics of sodium. These results show that, with an appropriate amount of cobalt doping, highly dispersed nanoparticles can be formed in the tin phosphide matrix, which can significantly enhance the cycle stability of tin-based electrode materials.

RESUMEN

Airway remodeling is a major feature of asthma. Interleukin (IL)-36γ is significantly upregulated and promotes airway hyper-responsiveness (AHR) in asthma, but its role in airway remodeling is unknown. Here, we aimed to investigate the role of IL-36γ in airway remodeling, and whether IL-38 can alleviate airway remodeling in chronic asthma by blocking the effects of IL-36γ. IL-36γ was quantified in mice inhaled with house dust mite (HDM). Extracellular matrix (ECM) deposition in lung tissues and AHR were assessed following IL-36γ administration to mice. Airway inflammation, AHR, and remodeling were evaluated after IL-38 or blocking IL-36 receptor (IL-36R) treatment in asthmatic mice. The effects of lung fibroblasts stimulated with IL-36γ and IL-38 were quantified in vitro. Increased expression of IL-36γ was detected in lung tissues of HDM-induced asthmatic mice. The intratracheal instillation of IL-36γ to mice significantly enhanced the ECM deposition, AHR, and the number of activated lung fibroblasts around the airways. IL-38 or blocking IL-36R treated asthmatic mice showed a significant alleviation in the airway inflammation, AHR, airway remodeling, and number of activated fibroblasts around airways as compared with the HDM group. In vitro, IL-36γ promoted the activation and migration of human lung fibroblasts (HFL-1). The administration of IL-38 can counteract these biological processes induced by IL-36γ in HFL-1cells. The results indicated that IL-38 can mitigate airway remodeling by blocking the profibrotic effects of IL-36γ in chronic asthma. IL-36γ may be a new therapeutic target, and IL-38 is a potential candidate agent for inhibiting airway remodeling in asthma.

RESUMEN

A green and efficient method for the synthesis of ß-sulfonyl aliphatic sulfonyl fluorides was developed. This reaction works in aqueous media under mild and environmentally benign conditions without any ligand or additive. The efficiency of this method is demonstrated by isolating the desired products obtained through simple filtration.

RESUMEN

Chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) is an important stage in the transformation of the normal gastric mucosa into gastric cancer. Granule Dendrobii (GD), a proprietary Chinese medicine, has proven clinical efficacy in treating CAG. GD might promote the reversal of precancerous lesions by improving them in CAG patients. However, the mechanism of GD in CAG treatment is relatively less understood. Here, N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG)-induced CAG rats were treated with GD and its efficacy was evaluated by observing the changes in the rats' weight and the pathology of gastric tissues. The potential effect of GD on the bacteria was predicted and verified in the large and small intestines and stomachs of CAG rats using amplicon sequencing and RT-qPCR. The results showed that GD could ameliorate the symptoms of body weight loss in CAG rats. Hematoxylin-Eosin (HE) and Alcian Blue (AB) staining showed that GD significantly improved the pathological state of the gastric mucosa in CAG rats. The relative abundance (RA) of Lactobacillus and Turicibacter significantly decreased after GD intervention compared with that of the model group (P < 0.05), indicating that GD might improve CAG by regulating the RA of Lactobacillus and Turicibacter. These findings revealed that Lactobacillus and Turicibacter as bacteria agents associated with gastritis, have the potential to inhibit gastric cancer, especially Turicibacter maybe another pathogen of CAG besides Helicobacter pylori (HP), which is worthy of further study. Meanwhile, the findings provided new ideas and materials for the research and development of new CAG drugs.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: Allogenic transplantation of retinal pigmented epithelium monolayer sheet has experienced bottlenecks due to imperfect surgical techniques. In this study, we developed a novel approach for allogenic transplantation of big sheets of retinal pigment epithelium (RPE)-Bruch membrane complex. METHODS: RPE-Bruch membrane complex sheets of 5 × 6 mm2 to 10 × 10 mm2 were taken from donated eyes. Through a novel approach, the sheets of RPE-Bruch membrane complex were transplanted into the subretinal space of eight eyes (8 patients) with late-stage retinitis pigmentosa. The patients were followed up for 5 ± 2 months. RESULTS: All RPE-Bruch membrane complexes were successfully inserted into the subretinal space during the surgery. Follow-up examinations also showed that the grafts attached well to the transplantation site. No rejection or retinal detachment was found. CONCLUSION: Through our technique, big sheets of allogenic RPE-Bruch membrane complexes could be implanted into the subretinal space smoothly. This novel approach may be useful for big sheet of allogenic RPE-derived or stem cells-derived RPE transplantation in the treatment of RP and other retinal dystrophic diseases.

RESUMEN

Cardiac fibrosis is thought to be the hallmark of pathological hypertrophic remodeling, of which the myofibroblast transdifferentiation is the key cell biological event. However, there is still no specific and effective therapeutic agent approved for cardiac fibrosis. To investigate the effects of belumosudil, the first ρ-associated kinase-2 (ROCK2)-specific inhibitor, on cardiac hypertrophy, fibrosis, and dysfunction induced by pressure overload, the transverse aortic constriction (TAC) or sham operation was carried out on wild-type C57BL/6 mice (male, 6-8 wk old) under pentobarbital anesthesia. After that, mice were randomly divided into three groups: sham operation + vehicle, TAC + vehicle, TAC + 50 mg·kg-1·day-1 belumosudil. We found that belumosudil effectively ameliorated cardiac hypertrophy, fibrosis, and dysfunction in TAC mice. To elucidate the underlying mechanism, we inhibited the expression of ROCK2 in vitro by either belumosudil or siRNA. We showed that the inhibition of ROCK2 by either belumosudil or knockdown suppressed cardiac fibroblasts activation and proliferation significantly induced by transforming growth factor-ß1 (TGF-ß1). Furthermore, our study confirmed ROCK2 mediates cardiac fibrosis by interacting with TGF-ß1/mothers against decapentaplegic homolog 2 (Smad2) pathway. Taken together, we demonstrated that belumosudil ameliorates cardiac hypertrophy and fibrosis induced by TAC via inhibiting cardiac fibroblasts activation. In conclusion, belumosudil may be a promising therapeutic drug for cardiac hypertrophy and fibrosis induced by myocardial pressure overload.NEW & NOTEWORTHY Although ρ-associated kinase-2 (ROCK2) is the main isoform of ρ-associated kinases (ROCKs) in the heart and more important in cardiac hypertrophy and fibrosis than ρ-associated kinase-1 (ROCK1), there has not been any pharmacological approach to inhibit ROCK2 selectively. Our study demonstrates for the first time that belumosudil, the first ROCK2-specific inhibitor, effectively ameliorates cardiac hypertrophy, fibrosis, and dysfunction induced by TAC via inhibiting cardiac fibroblasts activation.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is one of the mechanisms of airway remodeling in chronic asthma. Interleukin (IL)-24 has been implicated in the promotion of tissue fibrosis, and increased IL-24 levels have been observed in the nasal secretions and sputum of asthmatic patients. However, the role of IL-24 in asthmatic airway remodeling, especially in EMT, remains largely unknown. We aimed to explore the effect and mechanism of IL-24 on EMT and to verify whether IL-37 could alleviate IL-24-induced EMT in chronic asthma. METHODS: BEAS-2B cells were exposed to IL-24, and cell migration was assessed by wound healing and Transwell assays. The expression of EMT-related biomarkers (E-cadherin, vimentin, and α-SMA) was evaluated after the cells were stimulated with IL-24 with or without IL-37. A murine asthma model was established by intranasal administration of house dust mite (HDM) extracts for 5 weeks, and the effects of IL-24 and IL-37 on EMT and airway remodeling were investigated by intranasal administration of si-IL-24 and rhIL-37. RESULTS: We observed that IL-24 significantly enhanced the migration of BEAS-2B cells in vitro. IL-24 promoted the expression of the EMT biomarkers vimentin and α-SMA via the STAT3 and ERK1/2 pathways. In addition, we found that IL-37 partially reversed IL-24-induced EMT in BEAS-2B cells by blocking the ERK1/2 and STAT3 pathways. Similarly, the in vivo results showed that IL-24 was overexpressed in the airway epithelium of an HDM-induced chronic asthma model, and IL-24 silencing or IL-37 treatment could reverse EMT biomarker expression. CONCLUSIONS: Overall, these findings indicated that IL-37 mitigated HDM-induced airway remodeling by inhibiting IL-24-mediated EMT via the ERK1/2 and STAT3 pathways, thereby providing experimental evidence for IL-24 as a novel therapeutic target and IL-37 as a promising agent for treating severe asthma.

RESUMEN

Saddle-shaped hemes have been discovered in the structures of most peroxidases. How such a macrocycle deformation affects the reaction of FeIII hemes with hydrogen peroxide (H2 O2 ) to form high-valent Fe-oxo species remains uncertain. Through examination of the ESI-MS spectra, absorption changes and 1 H NMR chemical shifts, we investigated the reactions of two FeIII porphyrins with different degrees of saddling deformation, namely FeIII (OETPP)ClO4 (1OE ) and FeIII (OMTPP)ClO4 (1OM ), with tert-butyl hydroperoxide (tBuOOH) in CH2 Cl2 at -40 °C, which quickly resulted in O-O bond homolysis from a highly unstable FeIII -alkylperoxo intermediate, FeIII -O(H)OR (2) into FeIV -oxo porphyrins (3). Insight into the reaction mechanism was obtained from [tBuOOH]-dependent kinetics. At -40 °C, the reaction of 1OE with tBuOOH exhibited an equilibrium constant (Ka =362.3 M-1 ) and rate constant (k=1.87×10-2  sM->1 ) for the homolytic cleavage of the 2 O-O bond that were 2.1 and 1.4 times higher, respectively, than those exhibited by 1OM (Ka =171.8 M-1 and k=1.36×10-2 s-1 ). DFT calculations indicated that an FeIII porphyrin with greater saddling deformation can achieve a higher HOMO ([Fe(d z 2 ,d x 2 - y 2 )-porphyrin(a2u )]) to strengthen the orbital interaction with the LUMO (O-O bond σ*) to facilitate O-O cleavage.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To compare outcomes in neuroendoscopic-assisted vs mini-open craniotomy for hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage (HICH), so as to provide reasonable surgical treatment. METHODS: Clinical data of 184 patients with HICH in the hospital from January 2019 to May 2021 were analyzed retrospectively. The patients were divided into mini-open craniotomy group and neuroendoscopic-assisted group. The operation time, hematoma clearance rate, intraoperative blood loss, neurological function recovery, and postoperative mortality of the two groups were compared by retrospective analysis. RESULTS: The operation time and intraoperative blood loss in the mini-open craniotomy group were more than those in the neuroendoscopic-assisted group, but there was no significant difference between the two groups. There was no significant difference in hematoma clearance rate between the two groups, but for the rugby hematoma, the hematoma clearance rate in the neuroendoscopic-assisted group was higher than in the mini-open craniotomy group, the difference was statistically significant. Within 1 month after the operation, there was no significant difference in mortality between the two groups. 6 months after the operation, there was no significant difference in the recovery of neurological function between the two groups. CONCLUSION: Neuroendoscopic-assisted and mini-open craniotomy for the treatment of HICH has the advantages of minimal trauma with good effects, and its main reason for short operation time, reduced bleeding, and high hematoma clearance rate. Although the two surgical methods can improve the survival rate of patients, they do not change the prognosis of patients. Therefore, the choice of surgical methods should be adopted based on the patient's clinical manifestations, hematoma volume, hematoma type, and the experience of the surgeon.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: With the development of science and technology, self-service facilities have been widely used in hospitals. This study aimed to assess the microbial contamination characteristics on touch surfaces in outpatient, self-service facilities from Monday to Friday. METHODS: Touch surfaces in outpatient facilities were swabbed and surveyed for total microbial growth before and after work every morning. Selected bacteria were identified to screen for pathogenic organisms. RESULTS: There were 360 samples collected, 87 samples (24.2%) were culture-positive. Staphylococcus species were the main microbial contamination. The three most common bacteria were S. hominis, S. epidermidis and S. hemolyticus. After work, more microbial contamination was found on Monday (p = 0.029). There was no difference in sample positive rates between self-service facilities and manual service area. Although, the antibiotic resistance patterns of different staphylococcus species were different, the overall drug resistance rate is low. Only one S. aureus was methicillin-Sensitive S. aureus. CONCLUSIONS: The self-service facilities' touch surfaces microbial contamination were similar to manual service area, but the more used, the more microbial contamination was found. Hospitals should enhance cleaning times of self-service facilities to keep them clean, especially on Mondays.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: To explore the possible causes of tomography suspect keratoconus (TSK) marked by Tomography in screening keratoconus in a Chinese cohort, and the reasonable range of corneal horizontal diameter and thickness for decreasing the proportion of TSK. METHODS: Nested case-control study from a single center prospective cohort. All subjects were selected from the Peking University Third Hospital Ectasia Cornea Disease Cohort Project database, which included myopic patients seeking corneal refractive surgical corrections since 2013. Demographic information, basic eye examination, and auxiliary equipment examination including refraction, IOL-master, Pentacam, Sirius, and Topolyzer were recorded. In this study, all cases were classified into two groups: TSK group and normal control (NC) group, and all of them were followed up at least 2 years. The former is consisted of those whose screening examinations of tomography are abnormal, the latter is those whose screening examinations are normal. All of them have already been followed up at least 2 years without abnormalities after excimer laser corneal refractive surgeries. Unpaired t tests and Chi-square tests were used to compare the differences of indices from the tomography between the two groups. RESULTS: Of 183 TSK eyes (109 patients) and 160 NC eyes (83 patients), the mean age is 28.0 and 26.3 years old respectively. The corneal horizontal diameter is 11.5-11.8 mm in TSK group and 11.8-12.0 mm in NC group. The central corneal thickness is nearly 520 µm in the former and 550 µm in the latter. For Sirius, the TSK ratio of indices of SIf and SIb is 41.5 and 39.9% respectively in TSK group. For Pentacam, the TSK ratio of index IHD is 59.0% and "final D" is 72.7%. CONCLUSIONS: Corneal horizontal diameter and central corneal thickness have great influences on the results of corneal tomography in detecting the suspect keratoconus.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to evaluate the visual and morphological outcomes of intravitreal anti-VEGF therapy and the recurrence for idiopathic choroidal neovascularization (ICNV). METHODS: This retrospective study included 35 patients (35 eyes) with ICNV from July 2012 to October 2017. All patients received 1 intravitreal anti-VEGF injection followed by pro re nata injections until there was no sign of ICNV activity. This was defined as the first follow-up period. To evaluate ICNV recurrence, we continued to follow-up 27 of the 35 patients for at least 2 years after the initial diagnosis, and the longest follow-up period was 5 years. Additional injection was performed when ICNV recurred. Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and central retinal thickness (CRT) were recorded and morphological improvement in optical coherence tomography (OCT) was assessed. Parameters that affect prognosis and recurrence were analysed. RESULTS: The mean follow-up period was 168.0 ± 34.82 weeks. Mean BCVA improved from 56.20 ± 14.13 letters at baseline to 73.31 ± 12.57 letters (P<0.01); Mean CRT decreased from 353.6 ± 98.70 µm at baseline to 273.1 ± 53.56 µm (P < 0.001) at the end of the first follow-up period. Better baseline BCVA indicated a better morphological improvement (P = 0.026) in OCT: the lesion had completely subsided with recovery of the foveal contour. Those with high baseline BCVA (more than 60 letters) showed significant resolution of CNV lesions (P = 0.036). ICNV recurred in six patients (22.2%), 1 of whom experienced 2 recurrences. The mean timing of recurrence was 90.83 ± 49.02 weeks after diagnosis. There was no significant correlation between ICNV recurrence and the morphological improvement (P = 0.633). The final BCVA in patients with recurrence did not differ from that in patients without recurrence (P = 0.065). CONCLUSIONS: Intravitreal anti-VEGF therapy on a pro re nata basis was effective for treating ICNV. High baseline BCVA indicated a better prognosis. Re-treatment with anti-VEGF could effectively lead to resolution of recurrent ICNV. Disease recurrence had no significant effect on final visual prognosis and had no correlation with the morphological improvement during treatment, suggesting that follow-up for subsequent monitoring should be performed in all ICNV patients.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: There are no data available regarding the complications associated with using antibiotic ointment at the end of intraocular surgery. This study aimed to explore the necessity of using ocular tobramycin-dexamethasone prophylactically at the end of intraocular surgery. METHODS: This was a retrospective cohort study of patients who received intraocular surgery at Tianjin Medical University General Hospital from January 2015 to December 2017. The patients were grouped according to whether they received tobramycin-dexamethasone eye ointment or not after surgery. The Tobramycin dexamethasone eye ointment was sampled to observe bacterial contamination pathogens at 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 6, 8, 24, 36, 48, 72, and 168 h after being opened. RESULTS: A total of 3811 eyes in 3811 patients (mean age of 63 ± 12 years) were included: 2397 eyes that received prophylactic tobramycin-dexamethasone eye ointment and 1414 eyes that did not. The overall rate of endophthalmitis was 0.08% (3/3811) in our study, all in the eye ointment group (0.12%, 3/2397); no patients developed endophthalmitis in the non-ointment group (0%, 0/1414)(P = 0.184). The anterior chamber reactions 1 day after surgery were more serious in the eye ointment group compared with the non-ointment group (all P < 0.05), but there were no statistically significant differences at 1 month postoperatively (all P > 0.05). The contamination rate was 0% at all time points over 7 days. CONCLUSION: We did not observe a statistically significant difference in the incidence of endophthalmitis in patients with or without prophylactic tobramycin-dexamethasone eye ointment. And tobramycin-dexamethasone eye ointment seemed to increase some side effects such as eye secretions increasing and foreign body feeling.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: To document characteristics and treatments of ocular blast injury from a fire and explosion. METHOD: Authors retrospectively evaluated 116 patients with 166 eye injuries from six hospitals. Terminology of ocular injury referred to Birmingham Eye Trauma Terminology, and best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was categorized with the ocular trauma score (OTS) grading system. Incidence, preoperational and follow-up BCVA, treatment of severe ocular blast injuries were surveyed. RESULTS: Oculoplastic injuries accounted for the majority of eye injuries, while globe injuries were presented in 52 eyes with median baseline OTS 70 ranging from 26 to 100. No endophthalmitis occurred. The mean timing of the first-stage operations was 9.4 ± 6.4 h after blast, while second-stage operations were performed on average 14.7 ± 0.9 days post blast. Final BCVA of 68.8% of eyes achieved 20/200 or better as followed, 7 open globe injuries had a BCVA of no light perception. Additionally, eyes presenting rupture, retinal detachment, vitreous hemorrhage, choroidal injury and initial BCVA less than 20/200 had worse final visual outcomes, while globe penetration was not associated with poor visual acuity. CONCLUSION: Various ocular injuries were commonly in the casualties of blast, in which open-globe injuries have worst visual prognosis. OTS is a valid approach for evaluation of prognosis and optimizing the therapeutic strategies subsequently in the massive casualty. Intense rescue and careful examination, proper surgery should be performed correctly to rescue patients.

RESUMEN

Indole derivatives derived from the secondary metabolites of marine organisms possess the excellent antifouling property to inhibit the biofouling. These compounds and their analogues are simple in structure and have been proven to have low toxicity and bioaccumulation. Therefore, the active indole antifoulants are expected to replace the potentially toxic antifoulants which are widely used in current antifouling coatings. Seven indole derivatives were synthesized via the Friedel-Crafts alkylation reaction and were characterized by IR spectra, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and elemental analysis. Inhibition experiments against marine algae and bacteria were conducted, and the partial inhibition rates of algae and bacteria were more than 90%. This outcome indicates that indole derivatives possess excellent properties suitable for use as targeting anti-fouling compound for algae and bacteria. Non-invasive Micro-test Technology (NMT) reveals that the Ca2+ efflux of Platymonas subcordiformis dramatically increased in the presence of indole derivatives, which is inferred to be the molecular mechanism for inhibiting the growth of marine algae. The antifouling coatings containing indole derivatives were prepared and subjected to an antifouling test in a marine environment, and the results show that N-(1-H-5-bromo-indole-3-ylmethyl) benzamide and N-(1-H-2-phenyl-indole-3-ylmethyl) benzamide possess better antifouling performance compared to copper pyrithione (CuPT). According to these results, indole derivatives in this study might become novel and promising antifoulants.

RESUMEN

Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) comprises a group of incurable inherited retinal degenerations. Targeting common processes, instead of mutation-specific treatment, has proven to be an innovative strategy to combat debilitating retinal degeneration. Growing evidence indicates that melatonin possesses a potent activity against neurodegenerative disorders by mitigating cell damage associated with apoptosis and inflammation. Given the pleiotropic role of melatonin in central nervous system, the aim of the present study was to investigate whether melatonin would afford protection against retinal degeneration in autosomal recessive RP (arRP). Rd10, a well-characterized murine model of human arRP, received daily intraperitoneal injection of melatonin (15 mg/kg) between postnatal day (P) 13 and P30. Retinas treated with melatonin or vehicle were harvested for analysis at P30 and P45, respectively. The findings showed that melatonin could dampen the photoreceptors death and delay consequent retinal degeneration. We also observed that melatonin weakened the expression of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) in Müller cells. Additionally, melatonin could alleviate retinal inflammatory response visualized by IBA1 staining, which was further corroborated by downregulation of inflammation-related genes, such as tumor necrosis factor alpha (Tnf-α), chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 2 (Ccl2), and chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 10 (Cxcl10). These data revealed that melatonin could ameliorate retinal degeneration through potentially attenuating apoptosis, reactive gliosis, and microglial activation in rd10 mice. Moreover, these results suggest melatonin as a promising agent improving photoreceptors survival in human RP.

RESUMEN

Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) is a tumor-associated fetal protein that can be expressed in large amounts in adult tumor cells, serving as a useful clinical tumor-marker. Silicon nanowire (SiNW) biosensors have emerged as a powerful tool in detecting protein biomarkers, due to their ultrahigh sensitivity, real-time response and label-free detection. We fabricated a SiNW-based field-effect transistor (FET) according to "top-down" methodology. First, anti-AFP antibodies were immobilized onto the surface of the SiNW-FET. A polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) microchannel was then integrated to the modified SiNW-FET. Various concentrations of AFP were then pumped through the sensing area. We observed a current change that corresponded to binding of AFP onto the surface of our anti-AFP functionalized SiNW-FET biosensor. Concentrations of AFP as low as 0.1 ng/mL were detected. The results implicate our SiNW biosensor as an effective AFP biomarker detector with promising potential in clinical applications.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The objective of the study was to delineate clinical characteristics, surgical interventions, anatomic and visual outcomes of ruptured eye balls after trauma, and establish the prognostic indicators, which can assist clinicians in making correct surgical decisions during globe exploration for ruptured eyes. DESIGN: The study design used was a multicentre prospective cohort study, including six university-affiliated tertiary hospitals. PARTICIPANTS: We selected 242 cases of ruptured globe from the Eye Injury Vitrectomy Study database, until 31 December 2012. METHODS: All selected cases underwent vitreoretinal surgery, enucleation or evisceration, and were followed up for at least 6 months. Age, visual acuity (VA) after injury, ocular trauma zone, time to surgery, corneal laceration, scleral wound, extrusion of iris or lens, ciliary body damage, intraocular haemorrhage, retinal detachment or defect, proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) and choroidal damage were the predisposing factors evaluated by logistic regression models. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: We compared the pre-surgical indicators between cases of anatomically restored eyes with VA of 4/200 or better, or eyes with initial no light perception restored light perception or better, and cases of VA worse than 4/200, silicone oil-sustained eyes, phthisis or enucleation. RESULTS: Nearly 40% of cases with ruptured globe were anatomically restored through vitreoretinal surgery. The closed-funnel retinal detachment or extensive retinal loss (odds ratio [OR] = 3.38, P = 0.026), PVR-C (OR = 3.45, P = 0.008), and choroidal damage (OR = 4.20, P = 0.004) were correlated with poor outcomes. CONCLUSION: The closed-funnel retinal detachment or extensive retinal loss, PVR-C, and choroidal damage are the risk factors for unfavourable outcomes in globe ruptures.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the expression of DACT1 in human placenta tissue and the relationship between DACT1 and target genes of the Wnt signaling pathway. METHOD: Real-time PCR and western blotting were used to detect the expression of DACT1 and the target genes of Wnt signaling pathway in human placenta tissue. And the relationship between them was analyzed using SPSS 19. RESULTS: Real-time PCR results showed that DACT1 expression was significantly higher in 49- to 71-day placenta tissues (mean value = 0.020) than that in 39- to 48-day (the mean value = 0.009). The mRNA expressions of the Wnt signaling pathway target genes, CCND1, CCND2, FOSL1, DAB2 and JUN, were also increased expressed in human placenta tissues. Significant positive associations between DACT1 and CCND1, CCND2, FOSL1, DAB2 and JUN were observed. Western blotting analysis showed that the protein expression of DACT1, CCND1, CCND2, FOSL1, DAB2 and JUN displayed the increasing trend in 43-, 49- and 71-day placenta samples. CONCLUSION: DACT1 might play an important role in human placenta development via promoting Wnt signaling.
