RESUMEN

Objective: To investigate the postoperative outcomes and visual quality following laser blended vision (LBV) surgery for the correction of myopia with presbyopia. Methods: This is a prospective study. A total of 50 patients (100 eyes) who underwent LBV surgery for myopia with presbyopia at Beijing Tongren Hospital, Capital Medical University, between August 2021 and March 2022 were included. Uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), uncorrected near visual acuity (UNVA), best-corrected distance visual acuity (BCDVA), manifest refraction spherical equivalent (MRSE) were measured preoperatively and at 1, 3, 6, 12, and 24 months postoperatively for the dominant eye, non-dominant eye, and both eyes. Effectiveness Index (EI) and Safety Index (SI) were calculated to evaluate refractive outcomes. Accommodation function and contrast sensitivity were assessed to evaluate functional vision. Objective visual quality was assessed using higher-order aberrations (HOAs) and a dual-channel visual quality analysis system. Subjective visual quality was evaluated using a questionnaire. Results: At 24 months postoperatively, the EI and SI for the dominant eye were 1.04±0.23 and 1.14±0.14, respectively, while for the non-dominant eye, they were 0.85±0.21 and 1.06±0.08, respectively. Although there were statistically significant differences in UNVA between the eyes at 1 and 3 months postoperatively (all P<0.05), no significant differences were observed from 6 months onward (all P>0.05). At 6 months postoperatively, the UNVA for the dominant and non-dominant eyes were 0.07±0.13 and 0.03±0.13, respectively, with no significant difference (P>0.05). MRSE showed no significant differences at any follow-up time points up to 24 months. Accommodation function did not decrease compared to preoperative levels at any postoperative follow-up. Increases in HOAs were primarily due to spherical aberrations, and there were no significant differences in objective visual quality before and after surgery. Contrast sensitivity improved significantly at 24 months postoperatively compared to preoperative levels. At 24 months postoperatively, 11 out of 12 patients reported good visual quality in the questionnaire. Conclusions: LBV surgery gradually achieves good binocular blended vision within 6 months postoperatively and demonstrates good safety, efficacy, and stability at 24 months. It maintains good functional vision and visual quality with high postoperative patient satisfaction.

RESUMEN

Using a novel method of isochronous mass spectrometry, the masses of ^{62}Ge, ^{64}As, ^{66}Se, and ^{70}Kr are measured for the first time, and the masses of ^{58}Zn, ^{61}Ga, ^{63}Ge, ^{65}As, ^{67}Se, ^{71}Kr, and ^{75}Sr are redetermined with improved accuracy. The new masses allow us to derive residual proton-neutron interactions (δV_{pn}) in the N=Z nuclei, which are found to decrease (increase) with increasing mass A for even-even (odd-odd) nuclei beyond Z=28. This bifurcation of δV_{pn} cannot be reproduced by the available mass models, nor is it consistent with expectations of a pseudo-SU(4) symmetry restoration in the fp shell. We performed ab initio calculations with a chiral three-nucleon force (3NF) included, which indicate the enhancement of the T=1 pn pairing over the T=0 pn pairing in this mass region, leading to the opposite evolving trends of δV_{pn} in even-even and odd-odd nuclei.

RESUMEN

The Rare-RI Ring (R3) is a recently commissioned cyclotronlike storage ring mass spectrometer dedicated to mass measurements of exotic nuclei far from stability at Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory (RIBF) in RIKEN. The first application of mass measurement using the R3 mass spectrometer at RIBF is reported. Rare isotopes produced at RIBF-^{127}Sn, ^{126}In, ^{125}Cd, ^{124}Ag, ^{123}Pd-were injected in R3. Masses of ^{126}In, ^{125}Cd, and ^{123}Pd were measured whereby the mass uncertainty of ^{123}Pd was improved. This is the first reported measurement with a new storage ring mass spectrometry technique realized at a heavy-ion cyclotron and employing individual injection of the preidentified rare nuclei. The latter is essential for the future mass measurements of the rarest isotopes produced at RIBF. The impact of the new ^{123}Pd result on the solar r-process abundances in a neutron star merger event is investigated by performing reaction network calculations of 20 trajectories with varying electron fraction Y_{e}. It is found that the neutron capture cross section on ^{123}Pd increases by a factor of 2.2 and ß-delayed neutron emission probability, P_{1 n}, of ^{123}Rh increases by 14%. The neutron capture cross section on ^{122}Pd decreases by a factor of 2.6 leading to pileup of material at A=122, thus reproducing the trend of the solar r-process abundances. The trend of the two-neutron separation energies (S_{2n}) was investigated for the Pd isotopic chain. The new mass measurement with improved uncertainty excludes large changes of the S_{2n} value at N=77. Such large increase of the S_{2n} values before N=82 was proposed as an alternative to the quenching of the N=82 shell gap to reproduce r-process abundances in the mass region of A=112-124.

RESUMEN

Nowadays, myopia morbidity keeps increasing in China. As the improvements of technique and safety in corneal refractive surgeries, an increasing number of patients with refractive error tend to choose these treatments. The 26-year-old woman with myopia in this case, whose UCVA was 0.1 in OD and 0.2 in OS, had corneal macula in the nasal side of the left eye owing to a corneal trauma occurred more than 10 years ago. After sufficient preoperative examinations, FS-LASIK was performed on the right eye and PTK combined with PRK was performed on the left eye. The UCVA was 1.2 in both eyes 3 months postoperatively, and the corneal macula was mostly cleared in the left eye. It is demonstrated that PTK combined with PRK is an effective and safe way to correct the diopter as well as remove the lesions for the lowly or moderately myopic patients accompanied with superficial corneal opacity. RESUMEN

Well-ordered periodic nanostructures are excellent substrates for many surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) applications. Conventional fabrication approaches such as high precision electron beam lithography or focused ion beam produce high resolution nano-features with great reproducibility at the expense of low throughput. In this work, a highly sensitive and scalable AAO-nano-fibre (ANF) SERS substrate is demonstrated by optimising the second anodisation time of the standard two-step anodisation of aluminium and performing an additional wet etching step on the resulting AAO substrate. The optimised ANF substrate exhibits SERS sensitivity that surpasses the AAO nanoholes and the metal-film-on-nanoparticles substrates. A detection limit of 0.1 nM is achieved with a signal-to-noise ratio of 2.6-3 using a low excitation power of 0.1 mW. The ANF substrate exhibits an enhancement factor of 9.28 × 106 and a standard deviation of no more than 8%. The results indicate that the highly sensitive and scalable ANF substrate is a promising substrate for commercial SERS application.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Recent advances in technology have enabled the development of various non-invasive skin imaging tools to aid real-time diagnosis of both benign and malignant skin tumours, minimizing the need for invasive skin biopsy. Multispectral optoacoustic tomography (MSOT) is a recently developed non-invasive imaging tool, which offers the unique capacity for high resolution three dimensional (3D) optical mapping of tissue by further delivering highly specific optical contrast from a depth of several millimetres to centimetres in living tissues. MSOT enables volumetric, spectroscopic differentiation of tissue, both in vivo and in real time, with and without the application of biomarker-specific probes, and is further able of providing spatial maps of skin chromophores, as well as underlying blood vasculature. METHODS: Three patients with suspicious skin tumours consented to have their lesions imaged with MSOT prior to excision. The histological findings and measurements were compared. RESULTS: We demonstrated the first in vivo clinical use of MSOT for 3D reconstruction of skin tumours in three patients with good histological correlation. CONCLUSION: Our findings confirm the potential benefit of the new imaging method in guiding surgical intervention to achieve a more precise excision with better clearance and lower relapse rates. It can also potentially help to shorten the duration of Mohs' micrographic surgery. Further large-scale studies are necessary to ensure correlation between MSOT and histology.

RESUMEN

Masses of ^{52g,52m}Co were measured for the first time with an accuracy of ∼10 keV, an unprecedented precision reached for short-lived nuclei in the isochronous mass spectrometry. Combining our results with the previous ß-γ measurements of ^{52}Ni, the T=2, J^{π}=0^{+} isobaric analog state (IAS) in ^{52}Co was newly assigned, questioning the conventional identification of IASs from the ß-delayed proton emissions. Using our energy of the IAS in ^{52}Co, the masses of the T=2 multiplet fit well into the isobaric multiplet mass equation. We find that the IAS in ^{52}Co decays predominantly via γ transitions while the proton emission is negligibly small. According to our large-scale shell model calculations, this phenomenon has been interpreted to be due to very low isospin mixing in the IAS.

RESUMEN

The objective of this study was to compare 12 bp-duplication polymorphisms in exon 4 of the κ-casein gene among 3 breeds/populations of yak (Bos grunniens). Genomic DNA was extracted from yak blood or muscle samples (N = 211) and a partial sequence of exon 4 of κ-casein gene was amplified by polymerase chain reaction. A polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis assay of the products (169 bp) revealed 2 variants. These variants differed in a 12-bp duplication of the nucleotide sequence corresponding to amino acids 147-150 (Glu-Ala-Ser-Pro) or 148-151 (Ala-Ser-Pro-Glu). The genotype frequency and gene frequency of the 2 κ-casein variants differed among the 3 yak breeds/populations. The long form of the κ-casein gene was the predominant allele, and the Jiulong yak showed the highest frequency of the short form variant of the κ-casein gene. In addition, 2 nucleotide differences resulting in amino acid substitutions were also identified in yaks. These results are significant for designing a breeding strategy to improve the genetic makeup of yak herds.

RESUMEN

Objective: To understand the loss to follow-up of children born to pregnant women with HIV infection (HIV-exposed children) and analyze its influencing factors in China in 2019. Methods: The data were collected from the follow-up records of pregnant women with HIV infection and their children reported by the national "Management Information System for the Prevention of HIV, syphilis and Hepatitis B Mother-to-Child Transmission" in 2019. HIV-exposed children were defined as those who were not followed up after birth or who were not followed up at 18 months of age and who were not followed up at 21 months of age. The univariate and multivariate influencing factors of loss to follow-up of children born to HIV-infected pregnant women were analyzed by χ2 test and logistic regression model. SPSS 25.0 software was used for statistical analysis. Results: The number of HIV-infected pregnant women was 5 039, the number of live-born children was 5 035, the number of loss to follow-up children within 18 months of age was 283, and the loss to follow-up rate children was 5.62%(283/5 035). The results of multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the rate of loss to follow-up of exposed children born to pregnant women who worked as farmers (animal husbandry and fishery) (aOR=0.34, 95%CI: 0.22-0.53), unmarried (aOR=0.47, 95%CI: 0.24-0.93), first marriage (aOR=0.38, 95%CI: 0.22-0.67), remarriage (aOR=0.36, 95%CI: 0.20-0.67) and cohabiting (aOR=0.47, 95%CI: 0.23-0.97), and knew they had HIV infection before this pregnancy (aOR=0.53, 95%CI: 0.40-0.70) was lower. Han nationality (aOR=1.52, 95%CI: 1.09-2.13), primary school (aOR=2.06, 95%CI: 1.10-3.89) and junior middle school (aOR=1.81, 95%CI: 1.03-3.17) educational level, non-use of antiviral drugs (aOR=6.21, 95%CI: 4.32-8.93) and delivery in township (street) level midwifery institutions (aOR=5.72, 95%CI: 1.61-20.27) had higher rates of loss to follow-up among infants born to HIV-infected pregnant women. Conclusions: HIV-exposed children still have a specific rate of loss to follow-up in China in 2019. In order to further reduce the rate of loss to follow-up, it is of great significance to improve the detection rate of HIV before pregnancy and the rate of antiviral drugs used in pregnant women with HIV infection, which is of great significance for the effective implementation of comprehensive intervention measures of prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV.

RESUMEN

Isochronous Mass Spectrometry is a practical approach for studying decays of short-lived isomers. However, solely relying on the time stamps between the isomer and ground state does not provide clear sign of decay. To address this issue, we proposed a method for extracting decay time point by analyzing the residuals of time stamps within a window of (20µs, 180µs) after the start of data acquisition. Decay events out of the window were disregarded due to poor accuracy of revolution time. In this paper, we propose a novel approach based on the discrete Fourier transform technique, which was tested by simulation data. We found that the accuracy of the decay time point can be improved, leading to an expanded window of (15µs, 185µs). Furthermore, as the novel method was applied to experimental data, additional five decay events were identified. The newly determined half-life of 94mRu44+ is consistent with the previous value.

RESUMEN

Hemangioma is a tumor that causes vascular endothelial cell hyperplasia, which commonly occur in newborns. Angiogenesis inhibitor targets the processes of angiogenesis, including the proliferation of vascular endothelial cells. A DNA sequence named Scl was designed, recombined into Pichia Pastoris, expressed by fermenting the engineered strain in a bioreactor, and purified the recombinant Scl by SP-sepharose fast flow. Scl can inhibit CAM angiogenesis. Only 1 µg of Scl significantly suppressed the growth of CAM blood vessel, similar to that of 25 µg of angiostatin. Scl showed a strong cytotoxicity on hemangioma cell (ATCC CRL No. 2587). After the drug acted for 24 h, the OD 570 measured value of the PBS control group averaged 1.873, whereas that of the Sc1 drug group was 0.692 (P < 0.01). Using the DeadEndTM Fluorometric TUNEL System, the detection results showed that 92 % of hemangioma cell apoptosis was observed in the Scl protein group, but only 1.3 % in the PBS control group (P < 0.01). After 2 weeks of treatment with the hemangioma model (cock's wattle) of the PBS group, 151 blood vessels with 100 views (40×) were obtained, whereas 250 in the PBS group (P < 0.01). During the two-week medication, the hemangioma model of the PBS group increased by 1.18 cm, whereas only 0.58 cm in the Scl drug group (P < 0.01).

RESUMEN

Angiostrongylus cantonensis (A. cantonensis) infection causes eosinophilic meningitis in humans. Eosinophilia and a Th2-type immune response are the crucial immune mechanisms for eosinophilic meningitis. CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells (Treg) are involved in the pathogenesis of A. cantonensis. Diammonium glycyrrhizinate (DG) is a compound related to glycyrrhizin (GL), a triterpene glycoside extracted from liquorice root. We investigated the curative effects and probable mechanisms of therapy involving a combination of albendazole and DG in BALB/c mice infected with A. cantonensis, and compared these with therapy involving albendazole and dexamethasone. We analysed survival time, body weight, signs, eosinophil numbers, immunoglobulin E (IgE), interleukin-5 (IL-5), and eotaxin concentrations, numbers and Foxp3 expression of CD4+CD25+ Treg, worm recovery and histopathology. The present results demonstrated that the combination of albendazole and DG could increase survival time more efficiently and relieve neurological dysfunction; decrease weight loss, eosinophil numbers, concentrations of IgE, IL-5 and eotaxin, the number and expression of Foxp3 of CD4+CD25+ Treg; and improve worm recovery and histopathology changes in treated animals, compared with the combination of albendazole and dexamethasone. The observations presented here suggest that the albendazole and dexamethasone combination could be replaced by the combination of albendazole and DG.

RESUMEN

In this paper, the application of the strong-form finite block method (FBM) to three-dimensional fracture analysis with functionally graded materials is presented. The main idea of the strong-form FBM is that it transforms the arbitrary physical domain into a normalized domain and utilizes the direct collocation method to form a linear system. Using the mapping technique, partial differential matrices of any order can be constructed directly. Frameworks of the strong-form FBM for three-dimensional problems based on Lagrange polynomial interpolation and Chebyshev polynomial interpolation were developed. As the dominant parameters in linear elastic fracture mechanics, the stress intensity factors with functionally graded materials (FGMs) were determined according to the crack opening displacement criteria. Several numerical examples are presented using a few blocks to demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the strong-form FBM.

RESUMEN

α-amy gene amplified from barley genome was cloned into MCS of pGAP9K to generate pGAP9K-α-amy which was then transformed into Pichia pastoris GS115 by electroporation. Transformants with multi-copies and high expression for the foreign gene were selected on G418 containing plate and expression analysis. The fermentation was carried out in a 50 l bioreactor with 20 l working volume, using a high-density cell culture method by continuously feeding with 50% glycerol-0.8% PTM4 to the growing culture for 54 h at 30°C. Under the control of GAP promoter (pGAP), α-amy gene was constitutively expressed. At the end of the fermentation, the α-AMY expression reached 125 mg/l, while the biomass growth was 186 as measured by absorption of 600 nm. The secreted α-AMY was purified to 97.5% by SP-Sepharose FF ion-exchange chromatography and affinity purification. The recombinant α-AMY showed activity on hydrolysis of starch.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: The purpose of this retrospective study was to calculate the positive predictive value (PPV) of sonographic Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) categories 3, 4, and 5 in different age groups to investigate whether age influences the PPV of the BI-RADS category in breast ultrasound. MATERIALS AND METHODS: From our sonography-guided core biopsy database of breasts between 2006 and 2008, we identified 2817 BI-RADS category 3, 4, and 5 lesions with known pathological diagnosis in 2587 women, all of whom underwent the earlier breast assessment via ultrasound with a sonographic BI-RADS lexicon and later sonography-guided core biopsy. All lesions were classified into three age groups (< 45, 45 - 59, and > 59 years). The age-related PPVs of each BI-RADS category among three age groups were calculated on the basis of pathological diagnoses and were compared using a χ(2)-test. RESULTS: The overall PPV of each BI-RADS category was 2.2 % in category 3, 6.5 % in category 4a, 35.2 % in category 4b, 79.6 % in category 4c, and 99.6 % in category 5. The age-related PPVs of category 3 varied significantly among the three age groups (0.9 % versus 3.9 % versus 2.0 % p = 0.048), and notably, the age-related PPV in group 2 was higher than the others. Additionally, there was a significant positive association between the age-related PPVs and increasing age in categories 4a and 4b (4a, p < 0.0001 and 4b, p = 0.0139), but not in categories 4c and 5 (4c, p = 0.1853 and 5, p = 0.2871). CONCLUSION: The incidence of female breast cancer differs not only in different sonographic BI-RADS categories, but also in different age groups. Therefore, more attention should be paid to the special age group that we found for sonographic BI-RADS categories 3, 4a, and 4b.

RESUMEN

In order to further predict the epidemic trend and develop vaccines for 2009 H1N1 virus, we monitored its epitopes and molecular pathogenic characteristics during the epidemic process. We also analyzed the similarity of antigenic and genetic characteristics among the novel 2009 H1N1, representative seasonal H1N1 strains, and vaccine strains. 2009 H1N1 isolates had high similarity of hemagglutinin (HA) antigenic sites with H1N1 viruses isolated before 1940 and up to 80.0% similarity with 1918 H1N1. The elderly people born before 1940 have relatively low 2009 H1N1 infection rate, which might be responsible for their previous infection with either 1918 H1N1 virus or an early progeny. Compared to seasonal H1N1 vaccine strains from 1999 to 2010, the HA, neuraminidase (NA), and nucleoprotein (NP) proteins of the isolates had highly conserved CTL epitopes (60.5-65.8%, 69.6-82.6%, and 76.7%, respectively). The seriousness and mortality rate of 2009 H1N1 infections were similar to seasonal influenza, which may be related to the molecular characteristics of low toxicity of 2009 H1N1 and cross-T-cell immunity, due to vaccination or exposure to seasonal H1N1 virus. Some strains of 2009 H1N1 acquired mutations at antigenic and glycosylation sites. It is of particular interest that Haishu/SWL110/10 and Beijing/SE2649/09, isolated after November 2009, gained a new glycosylation site at the position 179 of HA protein, near the RBD. Thus, in the future, vaccination with glycosylated 2009 H1N1 virus may prevent the seasonal epidemic caused by strains with glycosylation site mutation near the receptor binding domain (RBD).

RESUMEN

The concentrations and removal of Cryptosporidium, Giardia, and microbial indicators, including somatic coliphages and fecal coliforms were investigated through the wastewater treatment processes at three municipal wastewater treatment plants in Beijing, China. The experimental results showed that the concentrations of Cryptosporidium in untreated wastewater, primary treatment effluent, secondary treatment effluent, tertiary treatment effluent were 33-600, 67-333, 0-9 and 0-0.4 oocysts L(-1), and that of Giardia were 130-3,600, 533-2,033, 0-32 and 0-2.1 cysts L(-1), respectively. The reduction ratios of Cryptosporidium and Giardia by the primary treatment process were 0.12 log and 0.18 log, respectively. Oxidation ditch process had higher reduction efficiency to Cryptosporidium and Giardia than anaerobic-anoxic-oxic process and conventional activated sludge process, probably because of longer retention time and higher sludge concentration. Membrane ultrafiltration had a notably better efficiency to reduce microorganisms, especially Cryptosporidium and Giardia, than conventional flocculation sedimentation and sand filtration process, as the tertiary treatment. Comparing with total coliforms, fecal coliforms and heterotrophic bacteria, concentration of somatic coliphages was correlated better with that of Cryptosporidium and Giardia in untreated wastewater and secondary treatment effluent.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: Although phytobezoars are a rare cause of gastrointestinal obstruction, they are most commonly found in patients with previous gastric surgery. It is well known that predisposing factors of phytobezoar formation are ingestion of fruits containing soluble tannin, presence of dilute hydrochloric acid in the stomach, and gastric stasis or delayed emptying. We investigated whether intake of acid-suppressing drugs that neutralize gastric acidity or inhibit gastric acid secretion to constitute a hypo-acidic condition, increases the risk of phytobezoar formation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between September 1992 and October 2008, 32 patients (24 male and 8 female) with gastrointestinal phytobezoars were diagnosed either surgically or endoscopically at the Tri-Service General Hospital, Taipei, Republic of China. The data were collected from hospital records and analyzed retrospectively. RESULTS: Eighteen (56.25%) of all patients had previous gastric surgery and 6 (42.9%) of the 14 patients who had not undergone surgery had diabetes mellitus. The majority of admissions were during winter and spring (between October and March) (P < 0.01) and none of the patients had taken acid-suppressing drugs during the 6 months before detection of gastrointestinal phytobezoars. CONCLUSIONS: In our study, intake of acid-suppressing drugs did not increase the risk of phytobezoar formation in patients with normal gastric motility. Moreover, we believe that the major factor in phytobezoar formation is gastric stasis or delayed emptying, which sufficiently prolongs the retention period of materials in the stomach, while dilute hydrochloric acid is a minor factor.

RESUMEN

Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) play a regulatory role in various physiological processes in mammals and act as endogenous ligands for the G protein-coupled receptors (GPR) 41 and 43. The role of GPR41 and GPR43 in mediating SCFA signaling in the rabbit remains unclear. The present study was to investigate the sequence of the GPR41 and GPR43 messenger RNA (mRNA) and their expression pattern in different tissues and developmental stages in New Zealand rabbit. Comparison of genomic sequences in GenBank using the Basic Local Alignment Search Tool program suggested that the New Zealand rabbit GPR41 mRNA has high similarities with the human (84%), bovine (84%) and Capra hircus (84%) genes. Similarly, GPR43 mRNA has high similarity with the rat (84%) and mouse (84%) genes. Real-time PCR results indicated that GPR41 and GPR43 mRNA were expressed throughout rabbit's whole development and were expressed in several tissues. G protein-coupled receptor 41 and GPR43 mRNA were most highly expressed in pancreas (P<0.05) and s.c. adipose tissue (P<0.05), respectively. The expression levels of GPR41 mRNA was down-regulated in duodenum, cecum (P<0.05) and pancreas and up-regulated in jejunum, ileum, adipose tissue and spleen during growth. G protein-coupled receptor 43GPR43 mRNA was highly expressed in the duodenum, jejunum, ileum, colon, cecum and lung at 15th day (P<0.05), whereas the expression levels in the pancreas and spleen increased later after birth, with the highest expression at 60th day (P<0.05).
