RESUMEN

A new ruthenium-catalyzed cyclization of ortho-(alkynyloxy)benzylamines to dihydro-1,3-benzoxazines is reported. The cyclization is thought to take place via the vinyl ruthenium carbene intermediates which are easily formed from [Cp*RuCl(cod)] and N2 CHSiMe3 . The mild reaction conditions and the efficiency of the procedure allow the easy preparation of a broad range of new 2-vinyl-2-substituted 1,3-benzoxazine derivatives. Rearrangement of an internal C(sp) in the starting material into a tetrasubstituted C(sp(3) ) atom in the final 1,3-benzoxazine is highly remarkable.

RESUMEN

A novel osmium-catalyzed cyclization of o-alkynyl phenethylamines to give 3-benzazepines is reported. The procedure allows the straightforward preparation of a broad range of dopaminergic 3-benzazepine derivatives. Mechanistic investigations revealed that the process takes place via osmacyclopropene intermediates, which were isolated and characterized by X-ray crystallography.

RESUMEN

A new synthetic route to dihydrobiphenylenes has been developed. The process involves a mild Ru(II) -catalyzed [2+2+2] dimerization of ortho-alkenylarylacetylenes or its more versatile variant, the Ru-catalyzed [2+2+2] cycloaddition of ortho-ethynylstyrenes with alkynes. Mechanistic aspects of this [2+2+2] cycloaddition are discussed.

RESUMEN

A Rh(I)-catalyzed method for the efficient functionalization of arenes is reported. Aryl methyl sulfides are combined with terminal alkynes to deliver products of carbothiolation. The overall process results in reincorporation of the original arene functional group, a methyl sulfide, into the products as an alkenyl sulfide. The carbothiolation process can be combined with an initial Rh(I)-catalyzed alkene or alkyne hydroacylation reaction in three-component cascade sequences. The utility of the alkenyl sulfide products is also demonstrated in simple carbo- and heterocycle-forming processes. We also provide mechanistic evidence for the course of this new process.

BACKGROUND: Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorders (NMOSD) are a group of inflammatory diseases of the Central Nervous System (CNS) that primarily affect the optic nerve and spinal cord, usually with a severe and relapsing course. Due to the scarce information in non-Caucasian populations, we aimed to describe incidence, prevalence, and main clinical characteristics of NMOSD in a defined region in Mexico. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Descriptive, retrospective analysis of all reported cases of NMOSD attended in the neurology department of the UMAE-HE, CMNO, IMSS, the biggest third level hospital in Western Mexico. We searched the electronic medical records of the hospital for patients with a diagnosis of NMO, and reviewed all cases to confirm if they fulfilled NMOSD 2015 diagnostic criteria. Data were collected through a structured form. We described adjusted incidence and prevalence according to the WHO method, for the IMSS affiliated total population in Jalisco state in 2019. RESULTS: 67 NMOSD patients were included in the analysis of clinical data, with a mean age at onset of symptoms of 36 years ((Rivera et al., 2008-65). Most patients were female (74.6%). 53 patients living in Jalisco by the end of 2019 were included in the analysis of prevalence and incidence. Adjusted prevalence was 0.71/100,000 (95% CI 0.55-0.92), while adjusted incidence was 1.87/1,000,000 person-years (95% CI 1.11-3.16). In the full cohort, the first symptom of NMOSD was optic neuritis in 49.3% of the patients, followed by transverse myelitis (23.9%) and area postrema syndrome (10.4%). 62 patients relapsed in a mean follow-up of 2 years (0-7). 5 patients with less than 6 months of follow up had not relapsed. 55.2% of the patients were AQP4-IgG +, 14.9% AQP4-IgG -, and 29.9% unknown status. CONCLUSIONS: Although NMOSD prevalence is similar to other reports around the world, incidence is higher than in Caucasian populations. We believe that this high incidence is related to an increased awareness of the disease in the era of new NMOSD treatments. Recurrent disease is very frequent in our cohort.

RESUMEN

The charge-transfer complex generated from the combination of DABCO and sulfur dioxide, DABSO, is a bench-stable colorless solid suitable for use in organic synthesis as a replacement for gaseous sulfur dioxide. The complex can be combined with Grignard reagents to form sulfinates, which can then be converted in situ to a series of sulfonamides. Alternatively, reaction with anilines and iodine leads to the formation of a series of sulfamides. Cheletropic addition between DABSO and 2,3-dimethylbutadiene provides the corresponding sulfolene.

RESUMEN

TFA-promoted exo carbocyclizations of nonterminal 7-alkynals gave good to excellent yields of seven-membered cycloalkenones, a medium-sized functionalized ring present in natural products with relevant pharmacological properties. Nonterminal 5- and 6-alkynals also gave very good yields of the corresponding exo cyclopentenones and cyclohexenones. On the other hand, terminal 5-alkynals gave endo carbocyclizations to cyclohexenones. These carbocyclizations can be considered as tandem alkyne hydration/aldol condensation processes.

RESUMEN

Ru-catalyzed cycloisomerizations of aromatic homo- and bis-homopropargylic alcohols effectively afford benzofurans and isochromenes. These processes proved to be chemo- and regioselective (5-, and 6-endo cyclizations) derived from key Ru vinylidene intermediates. The presence of an amine/ammonium base-acid pair is crucial for the catalytic cycle.

Functionalized bicyclic 1,3-cyclohexadienes can be easily prepared by a new cascade reaction which involves the Ru-catalyzed addition of acyclic alkenes to 1,6-diynes to give (Z)-hexatrienes, followed by a pure thermal 6e-pi electrocyclization.

Cycloalkenes can be efficiently prepared by a new Ru-catalyzed cyclization of terminal alkynals. Under appropriate conditions, cycloisomerizations to conjugated aldehydes may be observed. Both processes involve catalytic Ru vinylidenes.

RESUMEN

Se estudiaron 93 pacientes que acudieron a consulta en el año 2001 y se les realizó examen oftalmológico completo y específico de la ptosis. El 40,86 por ciento se encontraba entre los 15 años o menos. Etiológicamente la ptosis aponeurótica ocupó el 41,8 por ciento seguida de las miogénicas con el 41,1 por ciento. En el grupo de 15 años o menos las ptosis miogénicas representaron el 82,4 por ciento y en mayores de 61 años las aponeuróticas ocuparon el 85,4 por ciento. La ptosis severa cursó con función nula del elevador en el 73,46 por ciento, mientras que la función excelente prevaleció en las leves y moderadas con 56,2 y 31,25 por ciento respectivamente. El 77,9 por ciento no presentaron complicaciones quirúrgicas. Predominaron las edades de 15 o menos años. Dentro de las ptosis aponeuróticas prevalecieron las posquirúrgicas y en las miogénicas, la congénita simple. La función del elevador fue excelente en las ptosis leves y nula en las severas. Predominó la ausencia de complicaciones
