RESUMEN

Peptide self-assemblies could leverage their specificity, stability, biocompatibility, and electrochemical activity to create functionalized interfaces for molecular sensing and detection. However, the dynamics within these interfaces are complex, with competing forces, including those maintaining peptide structures, recognizing analytes, and facilitating signal transmission. Such competition could lead to nonspecific interference, compromising the detection sensitivity and accuracy. In this study, a series of peptides with precise structures and controllable electron transfer capabilities were designed. Through examining their stacking patterns, the interplay between the peptides' hierarchical structures, their ability to recognize targets, and their conductivity were clarified. Among these, the EP5 peptide assembly was identified for its ability to form controllable electronic tunnels facilitated by π-stacking induced ß-sheets. EP5 could enhance the long-range conductivity, minimize nonspecific interference, and exhibit targeted recognition capabilities. Based on EP5, an electrochemical sensing interface toward the disease marker PD-L1 (programmed cell death ligand 1) was developed, suitable for both whole blood assay and in vivo companion diagnosis. It opens a new avenue for crafting electrochemical detection interfaces with specificity, sensitivity, and compatibility.

Understanding the transport mechanism is crucial for developing inhibitors that block allergen absorption and transport and prevent allergic reactions. However, the process of how beta-conglycinin, the primary allergen in soybeans, crosses the intestinal mucosal barrier remains unclear. The present study indicated that the transport of beta-conglycinin hydrolysates by IPEC-J2 monolayers occurred in a time- and quantity-dependent manner. The beta-conglycinin hydrolysates were absorbed into the cytoplasm of IPEC-J2 monolayers, while none were detected in the intercellular spaces. Furthermore, inhibitors such as methyl-beta-cyclodextrin (MßCD) and chlorpromazine (CPZ) significantly suppressed the absorption and transport of beta-conglycinin hydrolysates. Of particular interest, sodium cromoglycate (SCG) exhibited a quantity-dependent nonlinear suppression model on the absorption and transport of beta-conglycinin hydrolysates. In conclusion, beta-conglycinin crossed the IPEC-J2 monolayers through a transcellular pathway, involving both clathrin-mediated and caveolae-dependent endocytosis mechanisms. SCG suppressed the absorption and transport of beta-conglycinin hydrolysates by the IPEC-J2 monolayers by a quantity-dependent nonlinear model via clathrin-mediated and caveolae-dependent endocytosis. These findings provide promising targets for both the prevention and treatment of soybean allergies.

Soybean allergen entering the body is the initial step to trigger intestinal allergic response. However, it remains unclear how glycinin, the major soybean allergen, is transported through the intestinal mucosal barrier. The objective of this study was to elucidate the pathway and mechanism of glycinin hydrolysate transport through the intestinal epithelial barrier using IPEC-J2 cell model. Purified glycinin was digested by in vitro static digestion model. The pathway and mechanism of glycinin hydrolysates transport through intestinal epithelial cells were investigated by cellular transcytosis assay, cellular uptake assay, immunoelectron microscopy and endocytosis inhibition assay. The glycinin hydrolysates were transported across IPEC-J2 cell monolayers in a time/dose-dependent manner following the Michaelis equation. Immunoelectron microscopy showed a number of glycinin hydrolysates appeared in the cytoplasm, but no glycinin hydrolysates were observed in the intercellular space of IPEC-J2 cells. The inhibitors, colchicine, chlorpromazine and methyl-ß-cyclodextrin, significantly inhibited the cellular uptake of glycinin hydrolysates. The glycinin hydrolysates crossed IPEC-J2 cell monolayers through the transcellular pathway. Both clathrin- and caveolae-dependent endocytosis were involved in the epithelial uptake of the hydrolysates. These findings provided potential targets for the prevention and treatment of soybean allergy.

Enhanced second-harmonic generation (SHG) responses are reported in monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides (e.g., MX2 , M: Mo, W; X: S, Se) due to the broken symmetries. The 3R-like stacked MX2 spiral structures possessing the similar broken inversion symmetry should present dramatically enhanced SHG responses, thus providing great flexibility in designing miniaturized on-chip nonlinear optical devices. To achieve this, the first direct synthesis of twisted 3R-stacked chiral molybdenum diselenide (MoSe2 ) spiral structures with specific screw dislocations (SD) arms is reported, via designing a water-assisted chemical vapor transport (CVT) approach. The study also clarifies the formation mechanism of the MoSe2 spiral structures, by precisely regulating the precursor supply accompanying with multiscale characterizations. Significantly, an up to three orders of magnitude enhancement of the SHG responses in twisted 3R stacked MoSe2 spirals is demonstrated, which is proposed to arise from the synergistic effects of broken inversion symmetry, strong light-matter interaction, and band nesting effects. Briefly, the work provides an efficient synthetic route for achieving the 3R-stacked TMDCs spirals, which can serve as perfect platforms for promoting their applications in on-chip nonlinear optical devices.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: HBV DNA can be reduced using antiviral drugs in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB); however, the rate of HBeAg seroconversion remains low. A clinical trial was conducted to assess the efficacy and safety of a de novo designed liposome-based nanoparticle lipopeptide vaccine, εPA-44, for CHB. APPROACH AND RESULTS: A two-stage phase 2 trial, which included a 76-week, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial (stage 1) and a 68-week open-label extension (stage 2), was conducted in 15 centers across China (Clinicaltrials.gov No. NCT00869778). In stage 1, 360 human leukocyte antigen A2 (HLA-A2)-positive and HBeAg-positive patients were randomly and equally distributed to receive six subcutaneous injections of 600 µg or 900 µg εPA-44 or placebo at week 0, 4, 8, 12, 20, and 28. In stage 2, 183 patients received extended 900 µg εPA-44, and 26 patients were observed for relapse without further treatment. The primary endpoint was the percentage of patients with HBeAg seroconversion at week 76. At week 76, patients receiving 900 µg εPA-44 achieved significantly higher HBeAg seroconversion rate (38.8%) versus placebo (20.2%) (95% CI, 6.9-29.6%; p = 0.002). With a combined endpoint of HBeAg seroconversion, alanine aminotransferase normalization and HBV DNA < 2,000 IU/mL, both 900 µg (18.1%) and 600 µg (14.3%), resulted in significantly higher rate versus placebo (5.0%) (p = 0.002 and p = 0.02, respectively) at week 76. In stage 2, none (0 of 20) of 900 µg εPA-44-treated patients experienced serologic relapse. The safety profile of εPA-44 was comparable to that of placebo. CONCLUSIONS: Among HLA-A2-positive patients with progressive CHB, a finite duration of 900 µg εPA-44 monotherapy resulted in significantly higher HBeAg seroconversion rate than placebo and sustained off-treatment effect. A phase 3 trial is ongoing (ChiCTR2100043708).

The inherent small divergence angle of space optical communication poses significant challenges to establishing communication links. Therefore, laser link acquisition becomes a crucial technology in optical communication, with a primary focus on reducing the acquisition time effectively. Conventional optical communication acquisition techniques fail to address the error effects caused by satellite insertion into the Earth orbit, thus unable to meet the rapid establishment demands of laser links in satellite optical communication networks. In this regard, we propose a novel, to the best of our knowledge, on-orbit calibration method for laser communication terminals to our knowledge. Leveraging stellar observations, this method achieves efficient on-orbit calibration with only a single observation. Theoretical analysis and on-orbit experimental results demonstrate that this approach effectively enhances an open-loop pointing accuracy, offering promising prospects for achieving a rapid establishment of optical communication links in ultra-long-distance optical communication missions.

Controlling the assembly of DNA in order on a suitable electrode surface is of great significance for biosensors and disease diagnosis, but it is full of challenges. In this work, we creatively assembled DNA on the surface of octadecylamine (ODA)-modified topological insulator (Tls) Bi2Se3 and developed an electrochemical biosensor to detect biomarker DNA of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). A high-quality Bi2Se3 sheet was obtained from a single crystal synthesized in our lab. A uniform ODA layer was coated in argon by chemical vapor deposition (CVD). We observed and analyzed the assembly and mechanism of single-strand DNA (ssDNA) and double-strand DNA (dsDNA) on the Bi2Se3 surface through atomic force microscopy (AFM) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. The electrochemical signal revealed that the biosensor based on the DNA/ODA/Bi2Se3 electrode has a wide linear detection range from 1.0 × 10-12 to 1.0 × 10-8 M, with the limit of detection as low as 5 × 10-13 M. Bi2Se3 has robust surface states and improves the electrochemical signal-to-noise ratio, while the uniform ODA layer guides high-density ordered DNA, enhancing the sensitivity of the biosensor. Our work demonstrates that the ordered DNA/ODA/Bi2Se3 electrode surface has great application potential in the field of biosensing and disease diagnosis.

Chronic pulmonary aspergillosis (CPA) is common among individuals with underlying lung diseases. The clinical manifestations of CPA include systemic symptoms (e.g., weight loss, fatigue, fever), chronic productive cough, chest discomfort, and occasional haemoptysis, which are similar to the manifestations of pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) and are often misdiagnosed as PTB. Considering the striking similarities between CPA and PTB in clinical manifestations and imaging features, more specific microbiological and serological detections are needed for a definitive diagnosis. This study aimed to explore the clinical characteristics of CPA in TB as well as the diagnostic significance of Aspergillus-specific IgG and Aspergillus-specific IgM.A total of 140 patients diagnosed with TB by culture between December 2017 and February 2019 were included. Enrolled patients were categorized into two groups (CPA group and non-CPA group) according to CPA diagnostic criteria. All collected specimens were subjected to Aspergillus-specific IgG and IgM detection testing.The median concentration of Aspergillus-specific IgG in the CPA group (211.04 AU/ml) was significantly higher than that in the non-CPA group (77.88 AU/ml) (Z value - 6.397, P < 0.001). The sensitivity and specificity of Aspergillus-specific IgG for CPA diagnosis were 81.82% and 72.97%, respectively. In the chronic cavitary pulmonary aspergillosis (CCPA) group, the IgG positivity rate (≥ 120 AU/ml) was 96.2%, which was 21.4% in the non-CCPA patients (P < 0.001).The detection of Aspergillus-specific IgG serological changes is feasible and facilitates reliable differentiation between Aspergillus and Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection. However, Aspergillus-specific IgM has limited diagnostic value, with unsatisfactory sensitivity results.

BACKGROUND: Tuberculous meningitis (TBM), complicated with cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT), has been sparsely reported and needs to be investigated further. METHODS: Among those with tuberculous meningitis in Haihe Hospital, Tianjin University, 3 patients with venous sinus thrombosis were identified retrospectively. "Tuberculous meningitis" and "cerebral venous thrombosis" were used as keywords, and the retrieved literature was summarized and analyzed. Our data were combined with previously reported case data to describe this new condition. RESULTS: Among 28 patients with a median onset age of 31 years for TBM, 17 were females. The manifestations were fever, headache, and seizure. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) venography showed that the most common site of venous sinus thrombosis involved superior sagittal sinus, left transverse sinus, left sigmoid sinus, cavernous sinus, and straight sinus. The abnormalities found on MRI include hydrocephalus, exudates, hemorrhage, meningeal enhancement, infarction, and tuberculoma. In the acute phase, all patients received standard anti-TB treatment, and 14/28 patients received anticoagulant treatment. The mortality rate of these patients was 17.9%, and 21/28 (75%) became functionally independent. CONCLUSIONS: CVT is one of the rare complications of TMB and must be considered a differential diagnosis in patients with TBM who show poor clinical features and/or develop new neurological signs.

Satellite free-space optical (FSO) communication is very promising in improving the bandwidth and capacity of space information networks in the future. However, the inter-satellite transmission distance of over 1000 km leads to unstable optical beam pointing, acquisition, and tracking and then generates optical power jitter by a large margin before detection-demodulation. Therefore, it is difficult to realize high-stability and long-time FSO communication between satellites due to the generated bit error rate (BER) by jitter. In this paper, we report an autonomously self-designed and high-integration laser communication payload (LCP) and on-orbit-demonstrated inter-satellite 145 min, zero-BER FSO stable communication with a line rate of 2.8 Gbps. Moreover, based on the inter-satellite laser communication link, a video phone was clearly implemented for more than 10 min, and authentic user data transmitted 459,149 packets, achieving results of zero-packet loss. Summarily, this on-orbit experiment demonstrated an excellent performance of the LCP owing to the distinctive design of integrating a high-power amplifier and low-noise amplifier optical amplification function. Our space mission was successfully completed, and the on-orbit demonstration results may offer a significant reference for the field of satellite laser communication and space information networks.

Background: Tuberculosis (TB), a multisystemic disease with protean presentation, remains a major global health problem. Although concurrent pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) and extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB) cases are commonly observed clinically, knowledge regarding concurrent PTB-EPTB is limited. Here, a large-scale multicenter observational study conducted in China aimed to study the epidemiology of concurrent PTB-EPTB cases by diagnostically defining TB types and then implementing association rules analysis. Methods: The retrospective study was conducted at 21 hospitals in 15 provinces in China and included all inpatients with confirmed TB diagnoses admitted from Jan 2011 to Dec 2017. Association rules analysis was conducted for cases with concurrent PTB and various types of EPTB using the Apriori algorithm. Results: Evaluation of 438,979TB inpatients indicated PTB was the most commonly diagnosed (82.05%) followed by tuberculous pleurisy (23.62%). Concurrent PTB-EPTB was found in 129,422 cases (29.48%) of which tuberculous pleurisy was the most common concurrent EPTB type observed. The multivariable logistic regression models demonstrated that odds ratios of concurrent PTB-EPTB cases varied by gender and age group. For PTB cases with concurrent EPTB, the strongest association was found between PTB and concurrent bronchial tuberculosis (lift = 1.09). For EPTB cases with concurrent PTB, the strongest association was found between pharyngeal/laryngeal tuberculosis and concurrent PTB (lift = 1.11). Confidence and lift values of concurrent PTB-EPTB cases varied with gender and age. Conclusions: Numerous concurrent PTB-EPTB case types were observed, with confidence and lift values varying with gender and age. Clinicians should screen for concurrent PTB-EPTB in order to improve treatment outcomes.

OBJECTIVES: The clinical features of myositis specific antibody negative dermatomyositis (MSA negative DM) varied greatly, and there were few reports in the literatures. This study aimed to describe and expand the clinical phenotypes and prognoses of MSA negative DM patients. METHODS: MSA negative DM patients were identified from January 2010 to June 2020. We retrospectively reviewed the clinical features and laboratory data. The survival status was followed up until July 31. 2020 SPSS version 21.0 and R version 3.6.1 software were used for the statistical analyses. RESULTS: A total of 97 MSA negative DM patients were enrolled. The most common type of rashes was heliotrope rash (80.4%). More than half of the patients (55.7%) had interstitial lung disease (ILD), and seven of them developed rapid progressive ILD. There were eleven patients with tumours. During the follow-up, twelve patients died, of whom 5 (41.7%) died due to infection. Two phenotypes of MSA negative DM patients were identified by cluster analysis. Patients in cluster 1 developed muscle weakness, mechanic's hands, arthritis, and ILD more frequently. Patients in cluster 2 had a higher incidence of heliotrope rashes. Patients in cluster 1 tended to have worse prognoses, wherein the 1-year and 5-year survival rates (81.1% and 78.4%, respectively) were lower than those in cluster 2 (97.6% and 95.2%, respectively), with p value 0.04 and 0.056 respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Through cluster analysis, different clinical phenotypes of MSA negative DM patients were determined. The prognoses of the two subgroups were different in terms of survival rate and cause of death.

Since the first successful exfoliation of graphene, the superior physical and chemical properties of two-dimensional (2D) materials, such as atomic thickness, strong in-plane bonding energy and weak inter-layer van der Waals (vdW) force have attracted wide attention. Meanwhile, there is a surge of interest in novel physics which is absent in bulk materials. Thus, vertical stacking of 2D materials could be critical to discover such physics and develop novel optoelectronic applications. Although vdW heterostructures have been grown by chemical vapor deposition, the available choices of materials for stacking is limited and the device yield is yet to be improved. Another approach to build vdW heterostructure relies on wet/dry transfer techniques like stacking Lego bricks. Although previous reviews have surveyed various wet transfer techniques, novel dry transfer techniques have been recently been demonstrated, featuring clean and sharp interfaces, which also gets rid of contamination, wrinkles, bubbles formed during wet transfer. This review summarizes the optimized dry transfer methods, which paves the way towards high-quality 2D material heterostructures with optimized interfaces. Such transfer techniques also lead to new physical phenomena while enable novel optoelectronic applications on artificial vdW heterostructures, which are discussed in the last part of this review.

Great progress has been achieved in the research field of topological states of matter during the past decade. Recently, a quasi-1-dimensional bismuth bromide, Bi4Br4, has been predicted to be a rotational symmetry-protected topological crystalline insulator; it would also exhibit more exotic topological properties under pressure. Here, we report a thorough study of phase transitions and superconductivity in a quasihydrostatically pressurized α-Bi4Br4 crystal by performing detailed measurements of electrical resistance, alternating current magnetic susceptibility, and in situ high-pressure single-crystal X-ray diffraction together with first principles calculations. We find a pressure-induced insulator-metal transition between ∼3.0 and 3.8 GPa where valence and conduction bands cross the Fermi level to form a set of small pockets of holes and electrons. With further increase of pressure, 2 superconductive transitions emerge. One shows a sharp resistance drop to 0 near 6.8 K at 3.8 GPa; the transition temperature gradually lowers with increasing pressure and completely vanishes above 12.0 GPa. Another transition sets in around 9.0 K at 5.5 GPa and persists up to the highest pressure of 45.0 GPa studied in this work. Intriguingly, we find that the first superconducting phase might coexist with a nontrivial rotational symmetry-protected topology in the pressure range of ∼3.8 to 4.3 GPa; the second one is associated with a structural phase transition from monoclinic C2/m to triclinic P-1 symmetry.

A large-size Bi2Se3 tape electrode (BTE) was prepared by peeling off a 2 × 1 × 0.5 cm high-quality single crystal. The feasibility of using the flexible BTE as an efficient bioplatform to load Au nanoparticles and probe DNA for HIV-1 DNA electrochemical sensing was explored. Differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) show that the resultant biosensor has a wide linear range from 0.1 fM to 1 pM, a low detection limit of 50 aM, excellent selectivity, reproducibility and stability, and is superior to the pM DNA detection level of Pt-Au, graphene-AuNPs hybrid biosensors. This outstanding performance is attributed to the intrinsic surface state of Bi2Se3 topological insulator in facilitating electron transfer. Therefore, BTE electrochemical biosensor platform has great potential in the application for sensitive detection of DNA biomarkers.

OBJECTIVES: The need for a unified definition of weight loss (WL) after bariatric surgery has recently been highlighted. We aimed to evaluate the reliability of two clinically common WL indications including percentage of total WL (%TWL) and percentage of excess WL (%EWL) through comparing their performances in predicting metabolic syndrome (MetS) remission 1 year after bariatric surgery. METHODS: A total of 430 individuals with obesity who underwent bariatric surgery were enrolled. Participants were evaluated for changes in anthropometric parameters, metabolic indexes, MetS components and medications before and 1 year after surgery. MetS was defined using the criteria of the National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III criteria for Asian-Americans. RESULTS: The prevalence of MetS is 92.3% (397) at baseline. One year after bariatric surgery, 337 individuals (84.9%) were in MetS remission. The multivariate adjusted ORs were 1.16 (95% confidence interval [CI] 1.10-1.22) for each 1% increase in %TWL for MetS remission and 1.18 (95% CI 1.11-1.25) for each 5% increase in %EWL. This association with MetS remission remained statistically significant for %TWL after additional adjustment for %EWL (P for trend 0.029), and disappeared for %EWL. Receiver operating curve (ROC) analyses showed that the %TWL was more predictive than the %EWL (AUC%TWL vs. AUC%EWL, 0.749 vs. 0.700, p = 0.023). The Youden index indicated that the optimal %TWL cutoff point to identify MetS remission was 25%. CONCLUSIONS: We recommend that good responders to bariatric surgery should be defined as those exhibiting %TWL ≥ 25%.

In clinical practice, PTB patients have concurrent many types of comorbidities such as pneumonia, liver disorder, diabetes mellitus, hematological disorder, and malnutrition. Detecting and treating specific comorbidities and preventing their development are important for PTB patients. However, the prevalence of most comorbid conditions in patients with PTB is not well described. We conducted a large-scale, multicenter, observational study to elucidate and illustrate the prevalence rates of major comorbidities in inpatients at 21 hospitals in China. The 19 specific comorbidities were selected for analysis in this patient cohort, and stratified the inpatient cohort according to age and gender. A total of 355,929 PTB inpatients were included, with a male:female ratio of 1.98 and the proportion of ≥ 65 years PTB inpatients was the most. Approximately 70% of PTB inpatients had at least one defined type of comorbidity. The prevalence of 19 specific comorbidities in inpatients with PTB was analyzed, with pneumonia being the most common comorbidity. The prevalence of most comorbidities was higher in males with PTB except thyroid disorders, mental health disorders, etc. The prevalence of defined most comorbidities in patients with PTB tended to increase with increasing age, although some specific comorbidities tended to increase initially then decrease with increasing age. Our study describes multiple clinically important comorbidities among PTB inpatients, and their prevalence between different gender and age groups. The results will enhance the clinical aptitude of physicians who treat patients with PTB to recognize, diagnose, and treat PTB comorbidities early.

The evolution of single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) assembly on octadecylamine (ODA) modified highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) surface by heating and ultrasonic treatment has been studied for the first time. We have observed that DNA on the ODA coated HOPG surface underwent dramatic morphological changes as a function of heating and ultrasonic treatment. Ordered DNA firstly changed to random aggregates by heating and then changed to three-dimensional (3D) networks by ultrasonic treatment. This finding points to previously unknown factors that impact graphite-DNA interaction and opens new opportunities to control the deposition of DNA onto graphitic substrates. In this way, we built a cost-effective method to produce large-scale 3D ssDNA networks. All of these studies pave the way to understand the properties of DNA-solid interface, design novel nanomaterials, and improve the sensitivity of DNA biosensors.

In a free space optical communication system, the beacon light will lose most of its energy after long-distance transmission, and the background light from the universe will strongly interfere with it. The four-quadrant detector (4QD) has been widely used in optical communication systems as a high-precision spot position detection sensor. However, if the light signal falling on the 4QD is too weak, the electrical signal of the output position will be very weak, and it will easily be affected by or even submerged in noise. To solve this problem, we propose a method for improving the spot position detection accuracy. First, we analyzed the solution relationship between the actual position of the spot and the output signal of the 4QD, with a Gaussian spot as the incident light model. The output current signal of the detector was then transimpedance-amplified by an analog circuit and the output voltage signal with noise was digitally filtered. An error compensation factor and the gap size of the detector were introduced into the traditional spot position detection model. High-precision spot position information for the 4QD in a complex environment was then obtained using the improved spot position detection model. Experimental results show that the maximum spot position detection error for this method was only 0.0277 mm, and the root mean square error was 0.0065 mm, when the 4QD was in a high background noise environment. The spot position detection accuracy was significantly improved compared with traditional detection algorithms. Real-time detection can therefore be achieved in practical applications.

Promoting white adipose tissue (WAT) browning and enhancing brown adipose tissue (BAT) activity are attractive therapeutic strategies for obesity and its metabolic complications. Targeting sympathetic innervation in WAT and BAT represents a promising therapeutic concept. However, there are few reports on extracellular microenvironment remodeling, especially changes in nerve terminal connections. Identifying the key molecules mediating the neuro-adipose synaptic junctions is a key point. In this study, we used bioinformatics methods to identify the differentially expressed predicted secreted genes (DEPSGs) during WAT browning and BAT activation. These DEPSGs largely reflect changes of cytokines, extracellular matrix remodeling, vascularization, and adipocyte-neuronal cross-talk. We then performed functional enrichment and cellular distribution specificity analyses. The upregulated and downregulated DEPDGs during WAT browning displayed a distinctive biological pattern and cellular distribution. We listed a cluster of adipocyte-enriched DEPSGs, which might participate in the cross-talk between mature adipocytes and other cells; then identified a synaptogenic adhesion molecule, Clstn3, as the top gene expressed enriched in both mature white and brown adipocytes. Using Q-PCR and immunohistochemistry, we found significantly increased Clstn3 expression level during WAT browning and BAT activation in mice subjected to cold exposure (4 °C). We further demonstrated that treatment with isoproterenol significantly increased Clstn3 and UCP1 expression in differentiated white and beige adipocytes in vitro. In conclusion, our study demonstrates that the secretion pattern was somewhat different between WAT browning and BAT activation. We reveal that Clstn3 may be a key gene mediating the neuro-adipose junction formation or remodeling in WAT browning and BAT activation process.
