RESUMEN

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are well known persistent organic pollutants that have carcinogenic, teratogenic, and mutagenic effects on humans and animals. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) that can infest plant hosts and form symbioses may help plants to enhance potential rhizosphere effects, thus contributing to the rhizodegradation of PAH-contaminated soils. The present study aimed to assess the effectiveness of AMF on enhancing Salix viminalis-mediated phytoremediation of PAH-polluted soil and clarify the plant enzymatic and organic acid mechanisms induced by AMF. Natural attenuation (NA), phytoremediation (P, Salix viminalis), S. viminalis-AMF combined remediation using willow inoculated with Funneliformis mosseae (PM), Laroideoglomus etunicatum (PE), and Rhizophagus intraradices (PI) were used as strategies for the remediation of PAH-polluted soils. The results showed that AMF inoculation contributed to the dissipation of the high-molecular-weight PAH benzo (α) pyrene that had concentrations in PM, PE, and PI treatments of 40.1 %, 24.49 %, and 36.28 % of the level in the NA treatment, and 62.32 %, 38.05 %, and 56.38 % of the level in the P treatment after 90 days. The mycorrhizal treatment also improved the removal efficiency of phenanthrene and pyrene, as their concentrations were sharply decreased after 30 days compared to the NA and P treatments. The research further clarified the changes in rhizosphere substances induced by AMF. Organic acids including arachidonic acid, octadecanedioic acid, α-linolenic acid, 10,12,14-octadecarachidonic acid and 5-methoxysalicylic acid that can act as co-metabolic substrates for certain microbial species to metabolize PAHs were significantly increased in AMF-inoculated treatments. AMF inoculation also elevated the levels of polyphenol oxidase, laccase, and dehydrogenase, that played crucial roles in PAHs biodegradation. These findings provide an effective strategy for using AMF-assisted S. viminalis to remediate PAH-polluted soils, and the results have confirmed the key roles of organic acids and soil enzymes in plant-AMF combined remediation of PAHs.

RESUMEN

Given that fingerprint localization methods can be effectively modeled as supervised learning problems, machine learning has been employed for indoor localization tasks based on fingerprint methods. However, it is often challenging for popular machine learning models to effectively capture the unstructured data features inherent in fingerprint data that are generated in diverse propagation environments. In this paper, we propose an indoor localization algorithm based on a high-order graph neural network (HoGNNLoc) to enhance the accuracy of indoor localization and improve localization stability in dynamic environments. The algorithm first designs an adjacency matrix based on the spatial relative locations of access points (APs) to obtain a graph structure; on this basis, a high-order graph neural network is constructed to extract and aggregate the features; finally, the designed fully connected network is used to achieve the regression prediction of the location of the target to be located. The experimental results on our self-built dataset show that the proposed algorithm achieves localization accuracy within 1.29 m at 80% of the cumulative distribution function (CDF) points. The improvements are 59.2%, 51.3%, 36.1%, and 22.7% compared to the K-nearest neighbors (KNN), deep neural network (DNN), simple graph convolutional network (SGC), and graph attention network (GAT). Moreover, even with a 30% reduction in fingerprint data, the proposed algorithm exhibits stable localization performance. On a public dataset, our proposed localization algorithm can also show better performance.

RESUMEN

In MIMO-OFDM systems, pilot design and estimation algorithm jointly determine the reliability and effectiveness of pilot-based channel estimation methods. In order to improve the channel estimation accuracy with less pilot overhead, a deep learning scheme for joint pilot design and channel estimation is proposed. This new hybrid network structure is named CAGAN, which is composed of a concrete autoencoder (concrete AE) and a conditional generative adversarial network (cGAN). We first use concrete AE to find and select the most informative position in the time-frequency grid to achieve pilot optimization design and then input the optimized pilots to cGAN to complete channel estimation. Simulation experiments show that the CAGAN scheme outperforms the traditional LS and MMSE estimation methods with fewer pilots, and has good robustness to environmental noise.

RESUMEN

The present study aimed to evaluate psychological distress and scrutinized whether family resilience plays a moderating role in the association between infertility-related stress and psychological distress among infertile females preparing for their first IVF-ET. A total of 492 infertile females completed self-reported measures including the Kessler 10 Psychological Distress Scale (K10), the fertility problem inventory (FPI), and the Family Resilience Assessment Scale (FRAS). The results showed 21 (65.2%) participants reported moderate or higher levels of psychological distress. While controlling for economic status, we found psychological distress to be positively linked to infertility-related stress (ß=0.483, P<0.001), and negatively related to family resilience (ß=-0.145, P=0.001). The simple slopes analysis showed that infertility-related stress had a weaker positive association with psychological distress for individuals at 1 SD (ß = 0.443, P < 0.001) above the mean on family resilience compared to those at 1 SD (ß = 0.537, P < 0.001) below the mean. Thus, it suggests that clinical practice should conduct family resilience-oriented interventions to facilitate family resilience among infertile females preparing for their first IVF-ET, with the goal to reduce psychological distress.

RESUMEN

To determine if perceived stigma is positively associated with psychological distress, and examine if self-esteem has a moderating effect on the relationship between stigma and psychological distress among infertile Chinese couples. 369 infertile couples completed questionnaires including socio-demographic and clinical characteristics, stigma, self-esteem, and psychological distress. Stigma had a significant, positive association with psychological distress (r = 0.461, P < 0.01). Self-esteem moderated the association between stigma and psychological distress differently for men compared to women. Stigma had a positive, moderate association with psychological distress in men with high self-esteem compared to men with low self-esteem (t = 3.232, P < 0.01). However, there was no significant difference in the relationship between stigma and psychological distress between women with high and low self-esteem, tests of the simple slopes showed that non-significant difference of slopes between the two groups (t = -0.017, P = 0.987). The results indicate that self-esteem buffers the net effect of stigma on psychological distress in men but not women. Future research should focus on interventions that use self-esteem as a way to decrease the negative association of stigma with psychological distress, especially among men who are infertile and have low self-esteem.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: This study aimed to investigate the level of fertility related quality of life (FertiQoL) in women with recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL), and to further examine moderated mediation effects of dispositional mindfulness and negative emotions on the relationship between perceived stress and FertiQoL. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 262 participants recruited from the infertility outpatient clinics. A self-administered, structured questionnaire including the Simplified Chinese version of FertiQoL tool, the Perceived Stress Scale-10 (PSS-10), the Chinese Version of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), and the Mindfulness Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS) was used to collect information in this research. The mediation model and moderated mediation model were conducted using the PROCESS macro for SPSS. RESULTS: The mean score of Core FertiQoL was 64.59 (SD = 14.76) among women with RPL. Mediation analysis revealed that the association between perceived stress and FertiQoL was partially mediated by negative emotions (indirect effect = - 0.194 for anxiety, and - 0.151 for depression, all P < 0.001). Moderated mediation analysis indicated that the indirect effects of perceived stress on FertiQoL through negative emotions were significantly moderated by dispositional mindfulness. Specifically, the indirect effects of perceived stress on FertiQoL through negative emotions decreased were significant as dispositional mindfulness levels increased. CONCLUSION: Overall, women with RPL experienced poor FertiQoL. The Moderated mediation model provides a better understanding of how perceived stress, negative emotions and dispositional mindfulness work together to affect FertiQoL. Interventions aiming to improve FertiQoL in women with RPL should consider targeting these aspects.

RESUMEN

The present study aimed to examine the potential moderating role of personality traits in the psychological mechanisms by which mindfulness can lead to better sleep quality. A total of 172 oncology nurses participated in this study, and completed self-reported measures, including the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and 44-item Big Five Inventory (BFI-44). Results showed that mindfulness was correlated with the global PSQI score (r = -0.281, p < 0.01).Trait extraversion and neuroticism moderated the mindfulness-sleep relationship. The simple slope analysis indicated that the negative relationship between mindfulness and the global PSQI score was only significant at higher levels of extraversion (ß = -0.419, p < 0.001) and lower levels of neuroticism (ß = -0.344, p = 0.001). Additionally, the Johnson-Neyman technique revealed that, within a specific region (extraversion values above 21.93 and/or neuroticism values below 23.78), mindfulness was significantly associated with the global PSQI score; beyond the value regions, the significant association was lost. It suggests that mindfulness might play a protective role against sleep disturbance only among certain oncology nurses. The findings are valuable for identifying those who are more vulnerable to sleep dysfunction and may aid in targeted intervention planning.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To classify the characteristics of circadian type among clinical nurses and examine their relationships with presenteeism and work-related flow. METHODS: Using a cross-sectional design, 568 nurses were recruited through convenience sampling in January 2021 from three hospitals in Shandong Province, China. The data were collected using self-report measures, including the 11-item Circadian Type Inventory, Stanford Presenteeism Scale-6, and Work-Related Flow Inventory. Latent class analysis was performed to identify any clustering of circadian types. One-way analysis was performed to compare the differences between presenteeism and work-related flow in different circadian types. RESULTS: Four latent classes were identified, including high response class (14.4%), high flexible class (20.1%), high languid class (51.1%), and low response class (14.4%). Regarding presenteeism, the high languid class had higher scores than others. Regarding work-related flow, the scores of high flexible class were higher than those of high languid class, while the differences in all three dimensions were statistically significant. CONCLUSION: Although the shift work mode is not expected to change, nursing managers could use circadian type as a predictive index to select and employ individuals for shift work to enhance work performance and provide sufficient support to staff who are intolerant to shift work.

RESUMEN

Wild cyclamen (Cyclamen purpurascens) is considered as a precious breeding material for the development of new cultivars. Malvidin 3,5-diglucoside is the main anthocyanin in the petals of C. purpurascens, whereas the F1 progeny of the C. persicum × C. purpurascens cultivars cross contains 3,5-diglucoside-type anthocyanins as the main pigment. The anthocyanin 5-O-glucosyltransferase (A5GT) enzyme is responsible for the glycosylation of the A ring of anthocyanin at the 5-O-position, which implies that the expression of A5GT is dominant in the petals of C. purpurascens × C. persicum cultivars. Here, we isolated the complete open reading frame of the A5GT gene from C. purpurascens (Cpur5GT). Results of qRT-PCR revealed that Cpur5GT shows tissue-specific expression, with strong expression in fully opened petals and weak expression in young petals. In vitro enzyme assay showed that when uridine diphosphate glucose was used as the sugar donor, recombinant Cpur5GT could catalyze the glycosylation of 3-glucoside-type anthocyanidins at the 5-O-position, but when uridine diphosphate galactose was served as glycosyl donor, the reaction could not be performed. These results demonstrate that Cpur5GT exhibits valid anthocyanin glucosylation activity and could be used to analyze the mechanism of A5GT-mediated flower coloration in cyclamen in future studies.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: This study aimed to identify anxiety and depression trajectories of infertile women during first IVF treatment cycle and to examine whether the identified trajectories were associated with baseline psychological predictors, namely fertility-related stress, resilience, and illness perception. METHODS: A longitudinal prospective study was conducted to assess anxiety and depression using the Chinese version of Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) and Self-Rating depression Scale (SDS) at four different time points: the day of first IVF/ICSI appointment (baseline/T1), the first day of ovarian stimulation (T2), the one day before oocyte retrieval (T3), and the day of fresh embryo transfer (T4). Final analysis was done on data obtained from 202 infertile women. Latent class growth mixed modeling was carried out to identify anxiety and depression trajectories. Multinomial logistic regressions were conducted to investigate predictors of trajectory membership. RESULTS: Three different adjustment trajectories were identified amongst infertile women during their first IVF/ICSI treatment cycle. A total of 40.1 and 37.6% of women showed normal levels of anxiety and depression (resilient trajectories), respectively, 45.0 and 43.1% of women had recovery trajectories, and 14.9 and 19.3% of women had chronic anxiety and depression trajectories. Non-resilient trajectories were associated with relatively shorter duration of infertility, higher fertility-related stress, and lower resilience. CONCLUSION: The results imply that it is possible to identify women in chronic or recovery trajectories on the day of first IVF/ICSI appointment, so that tailored prevention strategies integrated components that attenuate stress appraisal and strengthen resilience should be implemented to target those individuals.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Ambulance personnel who witness trauma experienced by patients have been reported to experience positive changes, known as vicarious posttraumatic growth (VPTG). We examined VPTG and its relationship with social support and resilience among ambulance personnel. METHODS: The sample (n=227) was recruited from six emergency centers in China. The measures included the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI), the Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS), and the 10-item Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC-10). Structure Equation Modeling (SEM) and the bootstrapping procedure were used to examine indirect effects. RESULTS: The participants' mean score for VPTG was 68.96 (SD=15.51). Social support had significant direct effects on resilience (ß=0.51, p<0.001) and VPTG (ß=0.25, p=0.001), and resilience (ß=0.58, p<0.001) had a significant direct effect on VPTG. Furthermore, social support had a significant indirect effect (0.51×0.58=0.30, p<0.001) on VPTG through resilience. CONCLUSION: Although the nature of the work of ambulance personnel is not expected to change, the negative effects of the trauma they encounter can be reduced by providing them with more support resources and interventions to foster their resilience, which in turn, promote VPTG.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: Information on posttraumatic growth (PTG) among colorectal cancer (CRC) survivors with permanent intestinal ostomies is limited. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to investigate the occurrence of PTG among CRC survivors with permanent intestinal ostomies and its association with perceived social support and resilience. METHODS: This study was conducted with 164 CRC survivors with permanent intestinal ostomies at least one month after surgery. Participants completed questionnaires assessing socio-demographic and clinical characteristics, perceived social support, resilience and PTG. RESULTS: The mean total score on the Post Traumatic Growth Inventory was 66.74 (SD = 13.99). Perceived social support (r = 0.450) and resilience (r = 0.545) were significantly positively correlated with PTG. Structural equation modeling analysis showed that resilience mediated the relationship between perceived social support and PTG in which the indirect effect of perceived social support on PTG through resilience was 0.203 (P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Moderate to high PTG was found in CRC survivors with permanent intestinal ostomies. The most important implication of this study was that improving social support and resilience might be scientific intervention strategies for promoting PTG among CRC survivors.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To examine the positive association between emotional intelligence and clinical communication ability among practice nursing students, and to determine whether resilience plays a moderating role in the relationship between emotional intelligence and clinical communication ability among Chinese practice nursing students. METHODS: Three hundred and seventy-seven practice nursing students from three hospitals participated in this study. They completed questionnaires including the Emotional Intelligence Inventory (EII), Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC-10), and Clinical Communication Ability Scale (CCAS). Structural equation modeling was used to analyze the relationships among emotional intelligence, resilience, and clinical communication ability. RESULTS: Emotional intelligence was positively associated with clinical communication ability (P<0.01). Resilience significantly affected clinical communication ability (P<0.01) and moderated the relationship between emotional intelligence and clinical communication ability (P<0.01). CONCLUSIONS: Emotional intelligence is positively related to clinical communication ability among Chinese practice nursing students, and resilience moderates the relationship between emotional intelligence and clinical communication ability, which may provide scientific evidence to aid in developing intervention strategies to improve clinical communication ability.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To examine the relationship between prenatal maternal stress, resilience, and sleep quality, and to determine whether resilience plays a mediating role in the relationship between prenatal maternal stress and sleep quality among pregnant women. METHODS: Two hundred and thirty-one pregnant women in their second trimester participated in the study. They completed questionnaires, including: the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), the Pregnancy Stress Rating Scale (PSRS), and the 10-item Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC-10). A structural equation model was used to analyze the relationships among prenatal maternal stress, resilience, and sleep quality, with resilience as a mediator. RESULTS: Prenatal maternal stress was negatively associated with sleep quality in pregnant women (p < 0.01), whereas resilience was positively associated with sleep quality (p < 0.01). Furthermore, resilience mediated the relationship between prenatal maternal stress and sleep quality, and the mediation effect ratio was 22.0% (p < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: The risk factor for disturbed sleep was pregnancy-specific stress; however, the protective factor for sleep quality was resilience. This finding could provide scientific evidence for the development of intervention strategies with which to improve sleep quality in pregnant women.
