RESUMEN

Aqueous Zn-air batteries are emerging to be ideal next-generation energy-storage devices with high safety and high energy/power densities. However, the rational design and fabrication of low-cost, highly efficient, and durable electrocatalysts on the cathode side remain highly desired. Herein, template-assisted, scalable Fe-implanted N-doped porous carbon nanotube networks (Fe-N-CNNs) have been synthesized based on an environmentally friendly template hydroxyapatite nanowires (HAP NWs). Thanks to the hierarchical meso/micropores, high specific surface area, and abundant active sites, the optimized Fe-N-CNNs exhibit excellent oxygen reduction activity. Furthermore, the Zn-air batteries based on the Fe-N-CNNs cathode deliver a high discharge voltage of 1.27 V at a current density of 20 mA cm-2 and a large peak power density of 202.2 mW cm-2 . More far-reaching, this HAP-based template strategy opens a new avenue toward the mass production of efficient, cost-effective electrocatalysts, and the Fe-N-CNNs with hollow interiors are expected to extend their other potential uses in energy storage, molecular sieves, adsorbents, and biomedical engineering.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect and safety of miniscalpel-needle (MSN) on reducing the pain of myofascial pain syndrome (MPS). METHODS: We reviewed the available literatures inception up to February 2014 using Pubmed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure Database, Chinese Biomedical Database and Wanfang Database. RESULTS: Eight randomized controlled trials were finally identified. The main controls involved acupuncture, medications, injection, massage and cupping. We found that all of the studies agreed on the potential benefit of MSN as a strategy for MPS and the superiority compared to the controls, however, randomized methods applied in most of the trials could be criticized for their high or unclear risk of bias. Further research is also needed to clarify questions around the appropriate frequency and number of treatment sessions of MSN. CONCLUSION: This review shows that MSN might have the effect on MPS, even though there were some limitations in the studies included in the review. Studies with robust methodology are warranted to further test its pain-relieving effect on MPS.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To assess the efficacy of Da Chaihu decoction combined with metformin tablets on patients with type 2 diabetes compared with metformin alone. METHODS: This systematic review and meta-analysis is written based on 2020 PRISMA Extension for Chinese Herbal Medicines 2020 (PRISMA-CHM 2020) reporting guidelines. We reviewed all the relevant studies from a search of the following databases from inception to February 2022 without any language restriction: Excerpta Medica Database (EMBASE), Google Scholar, PubMed, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), VIP Information, Wanfang Data, and the Chinese Biomedical Literature Database(CBM). Data were extracted and the quality was independently evaluated by two reviewers, based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were analyzed using the Cochrane software RevMan 5.3. RESULTS: Six randomized controlled trials comprising 516 participants were included. The meta-analysis revealed the Da Chaihu decoction combined with metformin tablets group was significantly superior to the metformin tablets group in terms of fasting blood glucose(FPG) (-0.66 mmol/L; 95 % CI (confidence intervals) [- 1.28, - 0.04]), plasma glucose 2 h after meal (2-h PG) (-1.18 mmol/L; 95 % CI [-1.94, -0.42]) in six RCTs, body mass index (BMI) (-3.07 mmol/L; 95 % CI [-6.89, 0.75]) in three RCTs, glycosylated hemoglobin (HbAlc) (-0.36 mmol/L; 95 % CI [-1.04, 0.31]) in three RCTs, and triglycerides (TG) (-0.76 mmol/L; 95 % CI [-1.37, -0.15]) in two RCTs. In two RCTs, there were significant differences in terms of total cholesterol (TC) (-0.97 mmol/L; 95 % CI [-1.18, -0.76]). CONCLUSIONS: Very low-quality research shows that Da Chaihu decoction combined with metformin tablets exert a certain level of efficacy on patients with type 2 diabetes compared with metformin alone. However, random sequence generation methodology was reported in five studies leading to the low quality of the included studies. None of the six studies depicted the blinding method, allocation concealment, selective reporting, and assessed the purity and potency of the product. This observation requires verification through high-quality, multi-center, double-blinded randomized controlled trials, and assesses the purity and potency of the product.

RESUMEN

'Red Globe' table grapes are large, edible, seeded fruit with firm flesh that tastes good, but can have poor postharvest shelf-life. This study was conducted to explore the effects of products of Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus strain F17 and Leuconostoc lactis strain H52 on 'Red Globe' table grapes for the enhancement of shelf-life and improvement of grape quality characteristics during postharvest storage. Strains F17 and H52 were isolated from traditional fermented yak milk obtained in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. Samples from untreated and treated grapes were analyzed for physicochemical, biochemical, and microbiological properties (weight loss, decay rate, pH, total soluble solids content, titratable acidity, total phenols, sensory evaluation, and microbial growth) for 20 days. The results demonstrated that supernatants from both strains significantly reduced weight loss, decay rate, aerobic mesophilic bacteria, and coliform bacteria counts; delayed maturity and senescence of table grapes; and reduced titratable acidity and total phenols. However, the supernatant of strain F17 was more effective and resulted in better sensory evaluations and had a significant inhibitory effect on yeast and molds by day 5. Meanwhile, the supernatant from strain H52 had a significant inhibitory effect on fungi over the whole storage period. In addition, the results of the Pearson correlation analysis suggested that weight loss, decay rate, total soluble solids content, and microorganisms were highly correlated with the sensory evaluation data and quality of postharvest grapes when treated with the products of strain F17. On the basis of these data and sensory organoleptic qualities, the supernatant containing products from strain F17 had the best potential as a biopreservative to improve the postharvest quality of 'Red Globe' table grapes.

RESUMEN

Microplastic pollution has become a global environmental problem and is a cause of great concern. To evaluate the biological effects of microplastics, microplastics in organisms need to be accurately quantified. The quantification of microplastics in organisms using the fluorescence intensity is common; the digestion of biological samples is an important pretreatment method. However, the microplastics may be destroyed by digestion, which affects the fluorescence intensity of the microplastics and results in large deviations between measured and true values. In this study, six commonly used digestive agents were studied:KOH, NaOH, H2O2, HNO3, HNO3:HCl, and HNO3:HClO4. The effect of different digestion methods on the fluorescence intensity and surface morphology of microplastics was studied and the most suitable protocol was selected. The results show that, among the six different digestion methods, KOH digestion (100 g·L-1, 60℃) has the least influence on the fluorescence intensity of the microplastics and does not affect their surface morphology. The other five digestion methods lead to different degrees of reduction of the fluorescence intensity of microplastics and damage the microplastics' surface (aggregation, bubbles, scratches, and depressions). In addition, the KOH digestion method was used to extract microplastics from biological samples. The recovery rate was ≥ 96.3%±0.5%, indicating that the KOH digestion method is suitable for fluorescent microplastics in biological samples.

RESUMEN

Conducting polyaniline (PANI) exhibits interesting properties, such as high conductivity, reversible convertibility between redox states, and advantageous structural feature. It therefore receives ever-increasing attention for various applications. This Minireview evaluates recent studies on application of PANI for Li-ion batteries (LIBs), Li-S batteries (LSBs) and supercapacitors (SCPs). The flexible PANI is crucial for cyclability, especially for buffering the volumetric changes of electrode materials, in addition to enhancing the electron/ion transport. Furthermore, PANI can be directly used as an electroactive component in electrode materials for LIBs or SCPs and can be widely applied in LSBs due to its physically and chemically strong affinity for S and polysulfides. The evaluation of studies herein reveals significant improvements of electrochemical performance by physical/chemical modification and incorporation of PANI.

RESUMEN

Effect of digestion methods on fluorescence intensity of fluorescent polystyrene (PS) beads was poorly understood, which may affect the accuracy of toxicity test of the fluorescent PS beads exposed to marine organisms. Therefore, six digestion approaches were compared on fluorescence intensities and properties of three commercial fluorescent PS beads. Among all the protocols, the digestion using KOH (10% w/v, 60 °C) (KOH-digestion) had no effect on the fluorescence intensity, morphology and composition of the three fluorescent PS beads. Moreover, the extraction efficiency ≥ 95.3 ±â€¯0.2% of fluorescent PS beads in Daphnia magna and zebrafish, confirming its feasibility in fluorescent PS beads quantitative analysis. However, the fluorescence intensities of fluorescent PS beads digested by other five protocols were significantly decreased, as well as the change of morphology and composition on fluorescent PS beads. Overall, the KOH-digestion is an optimal protocol for extracting fluorescent PS beads in biological samples.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To observe the inhibiting effect of acupuncture on blood lipid, myocardial hypertrophy and fibrosis in mice with hyperlipemia, and explore its possible action mechanism. METHODS: Ten inbred mice (C57) were applied. Forty ApoE(-/-) mice who removed gene of apolipoprotein E were randomly divided into a control group, a non-acupoint group, an acupoint group and a medication group. The points 0. 5 cm and 1 cm next to the end of mice tail were respectively punctured in the non-acupoint group; "Neiguan" (PC 6) and "Fenglong" (ST 40) were punctured in the acupoint group; intragastric administration of simvastatin was applied in the medication group. After 8 weeks of treatment, the changes of total cholesterol (TC) and ratio of heart to body mass in each group were measured; changes of cardiac muscle fiber and ventricular wall thickness were observed; enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to test the level of angiotensin II (Ang I ) in plasma, and western blotting method was used to test protein content of angiotensin II type 1 receptor (AT1R) and endothelin-1 type A receptor (ETAR) in the heart. RESULTS: After 8 weeks of intervention, compared with the control group, rising range of blood lipid was obviously decreased (P<0.01) in the acupoint group and medication group, ratio of P<0.01), myocardial heart to body mass was decreased (P<0.05), thickness of ventricular wall was reduced (P fibrosis was relieved, levels of Ang II and ET-1 in plasma were decreased (P<0. 05), content of NO was increased (P<0. 05), and protein content of AT1R and ETAR was decreased in the heart (P<0. 05). CONCLUSION: 40) could inhibit the rising of blood lipid in ApoE(-/-) mice, lower the levels of Ang II and ET-1 in peripheral blood, increase the content of NO and inhibit the expression of AT1R and ETAR in heart tissue, which could relieve myocardial hypertrophy and fibrosis to play a protective role on heart.
