RESUMEN

Dynamic functional network connectivity (dFNC) is an expansion of static FNC (sFNC) that reflects connectivity variations among brain networks. This study aimed to investigate changes in sFNC and dFNC strength and temporal properties in individuals with subthreshold depression (StD). Forty-two individuals with subthreshold depression and 38 healthy controls (HCs) were included in this study. Group independent component analysis (GICA) was used to determine target resting-state networks, namely, executive control network (ECN), default mode network (DMN), sensorimotor network (SMN) and dorsal attentional network (DAN). Sliding window and k-means clustering analyses were used to identify dFNC patterns and temporal properties in each subject. We compared sFNC and dFNC differences between the StD and HCs groups. Relationships between changes in FNC strength, temporal properties, and neurophysiological score were evaluated by Spearman's correlation analysis. The sFNC analysis revealed decreased FNC strength in StD individuals, including the DMN-CEN, DMN-SMN, SMN-CEN, and SMN-DAN. In the dFNC analysis, 4 reoccurring FNC patterns were identified. Compared to HCs, individuals with StD had increased mean dwell time and fraction time in a weakly connected state (state 4), which is associated with self-focused thinking status. In addition, the StD group demonstrated decreased dFNC strength between the DMN-DAN in state 2. sFNC strength (DMN-ECN) and temporal properties were correlated with HAMD-17 score in StD individuals (all p < 0.01). Our study provides new evidence on aberrant time-varying brain activity and large-scale network interaction disruptions in StD individuals, which may provide novel insight to better understand the underlying neuropathological mechanisms.

Oocyte maturation and early embryonic development are key steps in the reproductive physiology of female mammals, and any error in this process can adversely affect reproductive development. Recent studies have shown that epigenetic modifications of histones play important roles in the regulation of oocyte meiosis and quality assurance of early embryonic development. Histone deacetylase 11 (HDAC11) is the smallest known member of the histone deacetylases (HDACs) family, and inhibition of HDAC11 activity significantly suppresses the rate of oocyte maturation, as well as the development of 8-cell and blastocyst embryos at the embryonic stage. This paper focuses on recent progress on the important role of HDAC11 in the regulation of mammalian oocyte maturation and early embryonic development, hoping to gain insights into the key roles played by epitope-modifying proteins represented by HDAC11 in the regulation of mammalian reproduction and their molecular mechanisms.

PURPOSE: To investigate the alterations of topological organization of the whole brain functional networks in hypertension patients with cognitive impairment (HTN-CI) and characterize its relationship with cognitive scores. METHODS: Fifty-seven hypertension patients with cognitive impairment and 59 hypertension patients with normal cognition (HTN-NC), and 49 healthy controls (HCs) underwent resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging. Graph theoretical analysis was used to investigate the altered topological organization of the functional brain networks. The global topological properties and nodal metrics were compared among the three groups. Network-based statistic (NBS) analysis was used to determine the connected subnetwork. The relationships between network metrics and cognitive scores were also characterized. RESULTS: HTN-CI patients exhibited significantly decreased global efficiency, lambda, and increased shortest path length when compared with HCs. In addition, both HTN-CI and HTN-NC groups exhibited altered nodal degree centrality and nodal efficiency in the right precentral gyrus. The disruptions of global network metrics (lambda, Lp) and the nodal metrics (degree centrality and nodal efficiency) in the right precentral gyrus were positively correlated with the MoCA scores in HTN-CI. NBS analysis demonstrated that decreased subnetwork connectivity was present both in the HTN-CI and HTN-NC groups, which were mainly involved in the default mode network, frontoparietal network, and cingulo-opercular network. CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated the alterations of topographical organization and subnetwork connectivity of functional brain networks in HTN-CI. In addition, the global and nodal network properties were correlated with cognitive scores, which may provide useful insights for the understanding of neuropsychological mechanisms underlying HTN-CI.

BACKGROUND: To investigate the diagnostic performance of parameters derived from monoexponential, biexponential, and stretched-exponential diffusion-weighted imaging models in differentiating tumour progression from pseudoprogression in glioblastoma patients. METHODS: Forty patients with pathologically confirmed glioblastoma exhibiting enhancing lesions after completion of chemoradiation therapy were enrolled in the study, which were then classified as tumour progression and pseudoprogression. All patients underwent conventional and multi-b diffusion-weighted MRI. The apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) from a monoexponential model, the true diffusion coefficient (D), pseudodiffusion coefficient (D*) and perfusion fraction (f) from a biexponential model, and the distributed diffusion coefficient (DDC) and intravoxel heterogeneity index (α) from a stretched-exponential model were compared between tumour progression and pseudoprogression groups. Receiver operating characteristic curves (ROC) analysis was used to investigate the diagnostic performance of different DWI parameters. Interclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was used to evaluate the consistency of measurements. RESULTS: The values of ADC, D, DDC, and α values were lower in tumour progression patients than that in pseudoprogression patients (p < 0.05). The values of D* and f were higher in tumour progression patients than that in pseudoprogression patients (p < 0.05). Diagnostic accuracy for differentiating tumour progression from pseudoprogression was highest for α(AUC = 0.94) than that for ADC (AUC = 0.91), D (AUC = 0.92), D* (AUC = 0.81), f (AUC = 0.75), and DDC (AUC = 0.88). CONCLUSIONS: Multi-b DWI is a promising method for differentiating tumour progression from pseudoprogression with high diagnostic accuracy. In addition, the α derived from stretched-exponential model is the most promising DWI parameter for the prediction of tumour progression in glioblastoma patients.

Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) with structural designability and tunability of photophysical properties enable them to be a promising class of organic luminescent materials by incorporating well-designed fluorescent units directly into the periodic skeletons. The photophysical properties of COFs are mainly affected by the structural features, which determine the conjugation degree, charge delocalization ability, and exciton dynamics of COFs. To understand the relationship between COF structures and their photophysical properties, two COFs with the same pyrene chromophore units but different linkages (imine or vinylene) were designed and synthesized. Interestingly, different linkages endow COFs with huge differences in solid-state photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) for imine- and vinylene-linked pyrene-based COFs, which possess PLQY values of 0.34 % and 15.43 %, respectively. The femtosecond-transient absorption spectra and time-dependent density functional theory reveal the different charge-transfer pathways in imine- and vinylene-linked COFs, which influence the exciton relaxation way and fluorescence intensity. In addition, an effective white-light device was obtained by coating the vinylene-linked COF on a light-emitting diode strip.

Constructing a powerful photocatalytic system that can achieve the carbon dioxide (CO2 ) reduction half-reaction and the water (H2 O) oxidation half-reaction simultaneously is a very challenging but meaningful task. Herein, a porous material with a crystalline topological network, named viCOF-bpy-Re, was rationally synthesized by incorporating rhenium complexes as reductive sites and triazine ring structures as oxidative sites via robust -C=C- bond linkages. The charge-separation ability of viCOF-bpy-Re is promoted by low polarized π-bridges between rhenium complexes and triazine ring units, and the efficient charge-separation enables the photogenerated electron-hole pairs, followed by an intramolecular charge-transfer process, to form photogenerated electrons involved in CO2 reduction and photogenerated holes that participate in H2 O oxidation simultaneously. The viCOF-bpy-Re shows the highest catalytic photocatalytic carbon monoxide (CO) production rate (190.6 µmol g-1 h-1 with about 100 % selectivity) and oxygen (O2 ) evolution (90.2 µmol g-1 h-1 ) among all the porous catalysts in CO2 reduction with H2 O as sacrificial agents. Therefore, a powerful photocatalytic system was successfully achieved, and this catalytic system exhibited excellent stability in the catalysis process for 50 hours. The structure-function relationship was confirmed by femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations.

Abnormally high expression of glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) derived from glioma cells has essential impacts on gliomagenesis and development, but the molecular basis underlying increased GDNF expression in glioma cells remain unclear. This work aimed to study the molecular mechanisms that may explain the accumulation of GDNF in glioma. Firstly, we observed that cAMP response element-binding protein (CREB), known as an important transcription factor for binding of GDNF promoter region, was highly expressed with an apparent accumulation into the nucleus of glioma cells, which may contribute to the transcription of GDNF. Secondly, CUE domain-containing protein 2 (CUEDC2), a ubiquitin-regulated protein, could increase the amount of binding between the E3 ligase tripartite motif-containing 21 (TRIM21) and CREB and affect the CREB level. Like our previous study, it showed that there was a significantly down-regulation of CUEDC2 in glioma. Finally, our data suggest that GDNF expression is indirectly regulated by transcription factor ubiquitination. Indeed, down-regulation of CUEDC2, decreased the ubiquitination and degradation of CREB, which was associated to high levels of GDNF. Furthermore, abundant CREB involved in the binding to the GDNF promoter region contributes to GDNF high expression in glioma cells. Collectively, it was verified the GDNF expression was affected by CREB ubiquitination regulated by CUEDC2 level.

The molecular mechanism underlying myostatin (MSTN)-regulated metabolic cross-talk remains poorly understood. In this study, we performed comparative proteomic and phosphoproteomic analyses of gluteus muscle tissues from MSTN-/- transgenic cattle using a shotgun-based tandem mass tag (TMT) 6-plex labeling method to explore the signaling pathway of MSTN in metabolic cross-talk and cellular metabolism during muscle development. A total of 72 differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) and 36 differentially expressed phosphoproteins (DEPPs) were identified in MSTN-/- cattle compared to wild-type cattle. Bioinformatics analyses showed that MSTN knockout increased the activity of many key enzymes involved in fatty acid ß-oxidation and glycolysis processes in cattle. Furthermore, comprehensive pathway analyses and hypothesis-driven AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) activity assays suggested that MSTN knockout triggers the activation of AMPK signaling pathways to regulate glucose and lipid metabolism by increasing the AMP/ATP ratio. Our results shed new light on the potential regulatory mechanism of MSTN associated with metabolic cross-talk in muscle development, which can be used in animal breeding to improve meat production in livestock animals, and can also provide valuable insight into treatments for obesity and diabetes mellitus in humans.

Tin diselenide (SnSe2 ) nanosheets as novel 2D layered materials have excellent optical properties with many promising application prospects, such as photoelectric detectors, nonlinear optics, infrared photoelectric devices, and ultrafast photonics. Among them, ultrafast photonics has attracted much attention due to its enormous advantages; for instance, extremely fast pulse, strong peak power, and narrow bandwidth. In this work, SnSe2 nanosheets are fabricated by using solvothermal treatment, and the characteristics of SnSe2 are systemically investigated. In addition, the solution of SnSe2 nanosheets is successfully prepared as a fiber-based saturable absorber by utilizing the evanescent field effect, which can bear a high pump power. 31st-order subpicosecond harmonic mode locking is generated in an Er-doped fiber laser, corresponding to the maximum repetition rate of 257.3 MHz and pulse duration of 887 fs. The results show that SnSe2 can be used as an excellent nonlinear photonic device in many fields, such as frequency comb, lasers, photodetectors, etc.

BACKGROUND: Mechanical thrombectomy has been proven as a standard care for moderate to severe ischemic stroke with anterior large vessel occlusion (LVO); however, whether it is equally effective in mild ischemic stroke (MIS) is controversial. METHODS: In this retrospective study, a total of 177 Chinese patients presenting with MIS (NIHSS ≤8) and LVO between January 2014 and September 2017 from seven comprehensive stroke centers were identified. Odds of good outcome with endovascular thrombectomy versus medical treatment were obtained by logistic regression analysis and propensity-score matching method, and a meta-analysis pooled results from six studies (n = 733). RESULTS: Good outcome (mRS: 0-1) was 58.2% (46/79) in the thrombectomy and 46.9% (46/98) in the medical group, which showed no statistical significance before adjustment (P = 0.13; OR = 1.57, 95% CI: 0.86 to 2.86). The adjusted ORs of thrombectomy versus medical group were 3.23 (95% CI, 1.35 to 7.73; P = 0.008) by multivariable logistic analysis, 2.78 (1.12 to 6.89; P = 0.02) by propensity score matching analysis, and 3.20 (1.22 to 8.37; P = 0.01) by propensity score matching analysis with additional adjustments, respectively. Thrombectomy treatment did not result in excessive mortality or symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage after adjustments. The meta-analysis did not confirm the associations between good outcome and endovascular treatment. CONCLUSIONS: The current study indicates that endovascular thrombectomy is associated with good functional outcome in MIS patients with LVO, and without additional risk of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage and mortality. Although the meta-analysis failed to demonstrate its superiority compared to medical treatment, randomized clinical trials are needed.

BACKGROUND: A loading dose of antiplatelets reduces in-stent thrombosis after stent implantation. However, whether it is safe in patients undergoing acute stenting after intravenous recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA) is unclear. METHODS: A case series of acute ischemic stroke patients treated with intravenous rt-PA followed by emergent stenting were prospectively included in Jinling Hospital Stroke Unit. An emergent loading dose of antiplatelets (aspirin 300 mg and clopidogrel 300 mg) were administered to all patients through a nasogastric tube immediately before stenting. Clinical and angiographic outcomes were evaluated in these patients. RESULTS: A total of 12 patients were included. The median of NIHSS score on admission was 15 points (interquartile range 11-19). The median of time from stroke symptom onset to start IV rt-PA and stent placement was 172 min (interquartile range 123.75-189) and 311.5 min (interquartile range 285.5-349.5), respectively. All patients reached complete or partial recanalization (TICI ≥2a). One patient occurred hemorrhagic transformation at 24 h following the emergent loading dose of antiplatelets. A favorable outcome as defined by mRS ≤2 at 90 days was obtained in 58.3% (7/12) of all patients. CONCLUSION: Our finding preliminary suggested that an emergent loading dose of antiplatelets may be safe and feasible for acute stenting after IV rt-PA.

The n-3 PUFAs have many beneficial effects on human health, including roles in immunity, neurodevelopment, and preventing cardiovascular disease. In this study, we established reliable model fat-1 transgenic cattle using transgenic technology and performed a systematic investigation to examine the function of n-3 PUFAs. Our results showed that expression of the fat-1 gene improved several biochemical parameters related to liver function and to plasma glucose and plasma lipid metabolism. Results of global gene and plasma protein expression analysis showed that 310 genes and 13 plasma proteins differed significantly in the blood of fat-1 transgenic cattle compared with WT cattle, reflecting their regulatory roles in the immune and cardiovascular systems. Finally, changes in the gut microflora were also noted in the fat-1 transgenic cattle, suggesting novel roles for n-3 PUFAs in the metabolism of glucose and lipids, as well as anti-stress properties. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report using multiple parallel analyses to investigate the role of n-3 PUFAs using models such as fat-1 transgenic cattle. This study provides novel insights into the regulatory mechanism of fat-1 in the immune and cardiovascular systems, as well as its anti-stress role.

BACKGROUND: Fractional flow reserve (FFR)-guided revascularization strategy is popular in coronary intervention. However, the feasibility of assessing stenotic severity in intracranial large arteries using pressure gradient measurements still remains unclear. METHODS: Between March 2013 and May 2014, 12 consecutive patients with intracranial large artery stenosis (including intracranial internal carotid artery, middle cerebral M1 segment, intracranial vertebral artery, and basilar artery) were enrolled in this study. The trans-stenotic pressure gradient was measured before and/or after percutaneous transluminal angioplasty and stenting (PTAS), and was then compared with percent diameter stenosis. A Pd /Pa cut-off of ≤0.70 was used to guide stenting of hemodynamically significant stenoses. The device-related and procedure-related serious adverse events and recurrent cerebral ischemic events were recorded. RESULTS: The target vessel could be reached in all cases. No technical complications occurred due to the specific study protocol. Excellent pressure signals were obtained in all patients. For seven patients who performed PTAS, the mean pre-procedural pressure gradient decreased from 59.0 ± 17.2 to 13.3 ± 13.6 mm Hg after the procedure (P < 0.01). Only one patient who refused stenting experienced a TIA event in the ipsilateral MCA territory. No recurrent ischemic event was observed in other patients. CONCLUSION: Mean trans-stenotic pressure gradients can be safely and easily measured with a 0.014-inch fluid-filled guide wire in intracranial large arteries. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play essential roles in muscle cell proliferation and differentiation. The muscle-specific miRNAs miR-1 and miR-206 have been shown to regulate muscle development and promote myogenic differentiation; however, it is likely that a number of other miRNAs play important roles in regulating myogenesis as well. microRNA-128 (miR-128) has been reported to be highly expressed in brain and skeletal muscle, and we found that miR-128 is also up-regulated during bovine skeletal muscle satellite cell differentiation using microarray analysis and qRT-PCR. However, little is known about the functions of miR-128 in bovine skeletal muscle satellite cell development. In this study, we investigated the biological functions of miR-128 in bovine skeletal muscle cell development. Using a dual-luciferase reporter assay, we confirmed that miR-128 regulates the Sp1 gene. Over-expression of miR-128 reduced Sp1 protein levels and inhibited muscle satellite cell proliferation and differentiation. Inhibition of miR-128 increased Sp1 protein levels and promoted muscle satellite cell differentiation but also suppressed proliferation. Changes in miR-128 and Sp1 expression levels also affected the protein levels of MyoD and CDKN1A. Sp1, an activator of MyoD and a suppressor of CDKN1A, plays an important role in bovine muscle cell proliferation and differentiation. The results of our study reveal a mechanism by which miR-128 regulates bovine skeletal muscle satellite cell proliferation and myogenic differentiation via Sp1.

Semiconductor nanowires have received considerable attention in the past decade driven by both unprecedented physics derived from the quantum size effect and strong isotropy and advanced applications as potential building blocks for nanoscale electronics and optoelectronic devices. Recently, organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites have been shown to exhibit high optical absorption coefficient, optimal direct band gap, and long electron/hole diffusion lengths, leading to high-performance photovoltaic devices. Herein, we present the vapor phase synthesis free-standing CH3NH3PbI3, CH3NH3PbBr3, and CH3NH3PbIxCl3(-x) perovskite nanowires with high crystallinity. These rectangular cross-sectional perovskite nanowires have good optical properties and long electron hole diffusion length, which ensure adequate gain and efficient optical feedback. Indeed, we have demonstrated optical-pumped room-temperature CH3NH3PbI3 nanowire lasers with near-infrared wavelength of 777 nm, low threshold of 11 µJ/cm(2), and a quality factor as high as 405. Our research advocates the promise of optoelectronic devices based on organic-inorganic perovskite nanowires.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical outcome of (131)I therapy in differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) with preablative stimulated thyroglobulin (ps-Tg) below 10 ng/ml and the value of ps-Tg for predicting clinical outcome. METHODS: Totally 167 DTC patients with ps-Tg below 10 ng/ml were included and divided into three groups [excellent response (ER, n=131), acceptable response (AR, n=34), and incomplete response (IR, n=2)] according to the response to initial (131)I therapy. One-way analysis of variance, χ(2) test, and Kruskal-Wallis test were used to evaluate the statistical differences of clinicopathological features, recurrence risk, and ps-Tg value among the three groups. The ps-Tg value between ER group and non-ER group were compared by Mann-Whitney rank-sum test. The ROC curve and optimal cut-off point were analyzed to evaluate the clinical value of ps-Tg for predicting disease-free status. RESULTS: There was significant difference in ps-Tg level (H=14.305, P=0.001) among three groups but not in age (F=0.831, P=0.755), sex (χ(2)=0.178, P=0.915), cervical lymph node metastases (χ(2)=1.475, P=0.478), TNM stage (H=1.063, P=0.588), and recurrence risk (H=2.947, P=0.229). The median level of ps-Tg in ER group was 2.20 ng/ml (1.10, 4.40), which was significantly lower than 4.40 ng/ml (2.70, 5.90) of non-ER groups (U=1424.50, P=0.000). Area under the ROC curve was 0.717. The cut-off value of ps-Tg was 2.35 ng/ml,with a sensitivity of 83.33%, specificity of 53.43%, and negative predictive value of 92.11%. CONCLUSION: The serum ps-Tg value is a sensitive marker for predicting the disease-free status in DTC patients with ps-Tg below 10 ng/ml.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are short non-coding RNA molecules that perform post-transcriptional repression of target genes by binding to 3' untranslated regions, and involved in the regulation of many biological processes. Some studies indicate that miRNAs are mechanistically involved in the muscle growth and differentiation. However, little is known about miRNAs expression patterns during the process of bovine skeletal muscle satellite cell myogenic differentiated into myotubes. To investigate the mechanisms of miRNAs-mediated regulation during this process, we performed a miRNAs microarray to detect 783 bovine miRNAs in bovine skeletal muscle satellite cell myogenic differentiation, and the results were further confirmed by a quantitative real-time RT-PCR assay. We observed that the expression of 15 miRNAs was significantly different between bovine skeletal muscle satellite cells and differentiated myotubes, in which twelve were significantly up-regulated and three were down-regulated in myotubes. Furthermore, using bioinformatics methods, the targets of differentially expressed miRNAs were predicted, and were further subjected to gene ontology (GO) and KEGG analysis. A total of 3077 potential target genes were produced, and the highly enriched GOs and KEGG pathways showed that these genes together formed a regulatory network that involved in cell proliferation, cell differentiation, and multiple biological molecular signaling processes. Taken together, the results of the current study suggested the potential regulating roles of these differentially expressed miRNAs in bovine myogenic differentiation.

BACKGROUND: Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a subtype of hemorrhagic stroke characterized by high mortality and low rates of full recovery. This study aimed to investigate the epidemiological characteristics of SAH between 1990 and 2021. METHODS: Data on SAH incidence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) from 1990 to 2021 were obtained from the Global Burden of Disease Study (GBD) 2021. Estimated annual percentage changes (EAPCs) were calculated to evaluate changes in the age-standardized rate (ASR) of incidence and mortality, as well as trends in SAH burden. The relationship between disease burden and sociodemographic index (SDI) was also analyzed. RESULTS: In 2021, the incidence of SAH was found to be 37.09% higher than that in 1990; however, the age-standardized incidence rates (ASIRs) showed a decreased [EAPC: -1.52; 95% uncertainty interval (UI) -1.66 to -1.37]. Furthermore, both the number and rates of deaths and DALYs decreased over time. It was observed that females had lower rates compared to males. Among all regions, the high-income Asia Pacific region exhibited the highest ASIR (14.09/100,000; 95% UI 12.30/100,000 - 16.39/100,000) in 2021, with an EPAC for ASIR < 0 indicating decreasing trend over time for SAH ASIR. Oceania recorded the highest age-standardized mortality rates (ASMRs) and age-standardized DALYs rates among all regions in 2021 at values of respectively 8.61 (95% UI 6.03 - 11.95) and 285.62 (95% UI 209.42 - 379.65). The burden associated with SAH primarily affected individuals aged between 50 - 69 years old. Metabolic risks particularly elevated systolic blood pressure were identified as the main risk factors contributing towards increased disease burden associated with SAH when compared against environmental or occupational behavioral risks evaluated within the GBD framework. CONCLUSIONS: The burden of SAH varies by gender, age group, and geographical region. Although the ASRs have shown a decline over time, the burden of SAH remains significant, especially in regions with middle and low-middle SDI levels. High systolic blood pressure stands out as a key risk factor for SAH. More specific supportive measures are necessary to alleviate the global burden of SAH.

RESUMEN

We report an economic and noble-metal-free artificial photosynthetic system, consisting of g-C3N4 as a photosensitizer and a photocatalyst, and cobaloxime as a co-catalyst, for H2 generation. This system allows for effective electron transfer from excited g-C3N4 to Co(III)(dmgH)2pyCl to generate reduced cobaloxime intermediate species for efficient H2 evolution. Transient fluorescence studies reveal that the presence of cobaloxime and TEOA promotes the population of excited electrons to transfer from g-C3N4, which is responsible for the high photocatalytic activity of this g-C3N4-cobaloxime conjugation system.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the prognostic value of posterior cerebral artery (PCA) laterality in patients with symptomatic middle cerebral artery (MCA) occlusion on standard medical therapy. METHODS: Forty consecutive patients with first onset isolated atherosclerotic occlusion in M1 segment of MCA received medication from June 2009 to March 2013. All patients underwent magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) for assessment of PCA laterality. Clinical data and modified Rankin Scale (mRS) at 3 months were compared between PCA positive and negative patients. Retrospective analysis was performed on their clinical and imaging data. RESULTS: Among them, 20 patients (50%) showed PCA laterality on MRA and 32 patients (80%) completed a 3-month follow-up. No significant difference existed between PCA laterality positive and negative groups in a favorable outcome of mRS = 0-1 at 3 months (P = 0.433). CONCLUSION: The presence of PCA laterality showed no prognostic effect on patients with symptomatic MCA occlusion on standard medical therapy.
