Objectives: The occurrence and development of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is related to lipid peroxidation, imbalance of inflammatory response factors, and immune function disorder. This study was conducted with the purpose of investigating the expression levels of inflammatory cytokines and adipocytokines and Th17/Treg balance in NAFLD patients treated with Dahuang Zhechong pills (DHZCPs). Methods: The study recruited 100 NAFLD patients who were then arranged into the test group and control group. Patients in the test group were treated with DHZCPs, while patients in the control group were untreated. Peripheral TH17 and Treg cells were detected by flow cytometry, and peripheral IL-17, IL-10, hs-CRP, and TNF-α expression levels were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) methods. The concentrations of ghrelin, leptin, and adiponectin were quantitatively examined. Results: The levels of TC, TG, ALT, and AST were declined but the level of HDL-C was increased in NAFLD patients treated with DHZCPs compared with untreated patients (P < 0.05). The ratio of Th17/Treg in NAFLD patients treated with DHZCPs was (1.52 ± 0.21), which was significantly lower than (2.39 ± 0.45) of untreated patients (P < 0.05). The levels of IL-17, hs-CRP, and TNF-α were lower, but the level of IL-10 was higher in NAFLD patients treated with DHZCPs than that in untreated patients (P < 0.05). The expression levels of ghrelin and adiponectin in NAFLD patients treated with DHZCPs were evidently higher than those in untreated patients (P < 0.01), and the expression level of leptin in NAFLD patients treated with DHZCPs was evidently lower than that in untreated patients (P < 0.01). Conclusions: Administration of DHZCPs regulates the immune function of NAFLD patients by keeping Th17/Treg balance and affecting the levels of inflammatory cytokines and adipocytokines.

PURPOSE: We aimed to compare the efficacy of percutaneous nephrostomy (PCN) versus retrograde ureteric stent (RUS) for acute upper urinary tract obstruction with urosepsis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We performed a random study, comparing PCN to RUS, for the treatment of patients requiring emergency drainage due to acute upper urinary tract obstruction with urosepsis between January 2019 to March 2020. Data collected included patient characteristics, stone material, microbiological characteristics, and laboratory data. Statistical analysis was performed by the student's t-test or Mann-Whitney U test or chi-squared test and Fisher exact test. RESULTS: At first, a total of 75 patients were eligibly assessed for enrollment. Among them, 3 cases were excluded for declining to participate and 7 cases were failed treated with RUS. At last, 35 PCN (53.85%) and 30 RUS (46.15%) patients were analyzed. There were 24 (36.92%) men and 41 (63.08%) women. The median age was 65 years. Emergency decompression was achieved by PCN in 35 (53.85%) patients and by RUS in 30 (46.15%). Urine culture was positive in 32 (49.23%) patients, of which 17 (53.13%) had E. coli. Postoperative C-reactive protein value and normal temperature recovery time in the PCN group were significantly lower than in the RUS group(P < .05). CONCLUSION: PCN had a better outcome than RUS in emergency drainage with urosepsis, especially for patients with severe inflammation and fever.

Fabrication of high-performance surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) biosensors relies on the coordination of SERS substrates and sensing strategies. Herein, a SERS active AuCu alloy with a starfish-like structure is prepared using a surfactant-free method. By covering the anisotropic AuCu alloy with graphene oxide (GO), enhanced SERS activity is obtained owing to graphene-enhanced Raman scattering and assembly of Raman reporters. Besides, stability of SERS is promoted based on the protection of GO to the AuCu alloy. Meanwhile, it is found that SERS activity of AuCu/GO can be regulated by DNA. The regulation is sequence and length dual-dependent, and short polyT reveals the strongest ability of enhancing the SERS activity. Relying on this phenomenon, a SERS biosensor is designed to quantify apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease 1 (APE1). Because of the APE1-induced cycling amplification, the biosensor is able to detect APE1 sensitively and selectively. In addition, APE1 in human serum is analyzed by the SERS biosensor and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The data from the SERS method are superior to that from ELISA, indicating great potential of this biosensor in clinical applications.

It is imperative to optimize chemotherapy for heightened anti-tumor therapeutic efficacy. Unrestrained tumor cell proliferation and sustained angiogenesis are pivotal for cancer progression. Plinabulin, a vascular disrupting agent, selectively destroys tumor blood vessels. Tirapazamine (TPZ), a hypoxia-activated prodrug, intensifies cytotoxicity in diminishing oxygen levels within tumor cells. Despite completing Phase III clinical trials, both agents exhibited modest treatment efficiency due to dose-limiting toxicity. In this study, we employed methoxy poly(ethylene glycol)-b-poly(D,L-lactide) (mPEG-b-PDLLA) to co-deliver Plinabulin and TPZ to the tumor site, concurrently disrupting blood vessels and eliminating tumor cells, addressing both symptoms and the root cause of tumor progression. Plinabulin was converted into a prodrug with esterase response (PSM), and TPZ was synthesized into a hexyl chain-containing derivative (TPZHex) for effective co-delivery. PSM and TPZHex were co-encapsulated with mPEG-b-PDLLA, forming nanodrugs (PT-NPs). At the tumor site, PT-NPs responded to esterase overexpression, releasing Plinabulin, disrupting blood vessels, and causing nutritional and oxygen deficiency. TPZHex was activated in response to increased hypoxia, killing tumor cells. In treating 4T1 tumors, PT-NPs demonstrated enhanced therapeutic efficacy, achieving a 92.9 % tumor suppression rate and a 20 % cure rate. This research presented an innovative strategy to enhance synergistic efficacy and reduce toxicity in combination chemotherapy.

The rational combination of chemotherapy drugs can improve the curative effect of cancer treatment. As two early recognized tumor hallmarks, the limitless replicative potential of tumor cells is essential for the development of their malignant growth state, and sustained angiogenesis is a prerequisite to the rapid growth of tumors. Based on this, we propose a combination therapy that hinders the unlimited proliferation of tumor cells and destroys tumor blood vessels. Herein, 7-ethyl-10-hydroxycamptothecin (SN38), a typical topoisomerase I inhibitor, was bonded to poly(L-glutamic acid) (PLG) to prepare the nanodrug SN38-NPs, which hinders the unlimited proliferation of tumor cells. A poly(L-glutamic acid)-combretastatin A4 conjugate (CA4-NPs), a representative vascular disrupting agent (VDA), was used to selectively disrupt the tumor blood vessels, cutting off the necessary nutrients and oxygen for the proliferation of tumor cells. In the 4T1 tumor model with an initial volume of about 400 mm3, the combined treatment of SN38-NPs and CA4-NPs showed an excellent cancer treatment effect with a tumor suppression rate of 94.3% and a synergistic interaction (Q = 1.25). Our study provides a new combination therapy approach for chemotherapy, with the hope of further improving the curative effect of anti-cancer therapy.

Tirapazamine (TPZ) has been approved for multiple clinical trials relying on its excellent anticancer potential. However, as a typical hypoxia-activated prodrug (HAP), TPZ did not exhibit survival advantages in Phase III clinical trials when used in combination therapy due to the insufficient hypoxia levels in patients' tumors. In this study, to improve the therapeutic effects of TPZ, we first introduced urea to synthesize a series of urea-containing derivatives of TPZ. All urea-containing TPZ derivatives showed increased hypoxic cytotoxicity (9.51-30.85-fold) compared with TPZ, while maintaining hypoxic selectivity. TPZP, one of these derivatives, showed 20-fold higher cytotoxicity than TPZ while maintaining a similar hypoxic cytotoxicity ratio. To highly efficiently deliver TPZP to the tumors and reduce its side effects on healthy tissues, we further prepared TPZP into a nanodrug with fibrin-targeting ability: FT11-TPZP-NPs. CA4-NPs, a vascular disrupting agent, was used to increase the fibrin level within tumors and exacerbate tumor hypoxia. By being combined with CA4-NPs, FT11-TPZP-NPs can accumulate in the hypoxia-aggravated tumors and activate sufficiently to kill tumor cells. After a single-dose treatment, FT11-TPZP-NPs + CA4-NPs showed a high inhibition rate of 98.1% against CT26 tumor models with an initial volume of ∼480 mm3 and four out of six tumors were completely eliminated; it thereby exerted a significant antitumor effect. This study provides a new strategy for improving the therapeutic effect of TPZ and other HAPs in anticancer therapy.

Toll-like receptor 7/8 agonists, such as imidazoquinolines (IMDQs), are promising for the de novo priming of antitumor immunity. However, their systemic administration is severely limited due to the off-target toxicity. Here, this work describes a sequential drug delivery strategy. The formulation is composed of two sequential modules: a tumor microenvironment remodeling nanocarrier (poly(l-glutamic acid)-graft-methoxy poly(ethylene glycol)/combretastatin A4, termed CA4-NPs) and an immunotherapy nanocarrier (apcitide peptide-decorated poly(l-glutamic acid)-graft-IMDQ-N3 conjugate, termed apcitide-PLG-IMDQ-N3). CA4-NPs, as a vascular disrupting agent, are utilized to remodel the tumor microenvironment for enhancing tumor coagulation and hypoxia. Subsequently, the apcitide-PLG-IMDQ-N3 could identify and target tumor coagulation through the binding of surface apcitide peptide to the GPIIb-IIIa on activated platelets. Afterward, IMDQ is activated selectively through the conversion of "-N3" to "-NH2" in the presence of hypoxia. The biodistribution results confirm their high tumor uptake of activated IMDQ (22.66%ID/g). By augmenting the priming and immunologic memory of tumor-specific CD8+ T cells, 4T1 and CT26 tumors with a size of ≈500 mm3 are eradicated without recurrence in mouse models.

Objective: To investigate the efficacy and safety of external physical vibration lithecbole (EPVL) in obese patients with <15 mm lower pole stones following extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL). Methods: Two hundred and ninety-nine obese patients with BMI greater than 30 kg/m2 and lower pole stones smaller than 15 mm were prospectively randomized into two groups. While ESWL was the only option in the control group, patients in the treatment group accepted EPVL after receiving ESWL. Imaging tests were used to compare the stone expulsion status on day 1 and the stone-free rates (SFR) on the first, second, and fourth weekends. Results: All 299 obese patients were randomly divided into two groups, with 152 patients assigned to the treatment group and 147 assigned to the control group. EPVL was effective in facilitating the expulsion of stone fragments. The treatment group's stone expulsion rate on the first day following EPVL was significantly greater than the control group's (66.4% vs. 51.7%, p = 0.009). Stone clearance rates in the treatment and control groups were 63.2 and 55.1% at 1 week (p = 0.041), 84.9 and 70.7% at 2 weeks (p = 0.011), and 90.8 and 79.6% at 4 weeks (p = 0.017), respectively. The complications (hematuria, lumbago, and fever) between the groups did not show any significance (p > 0.05). Patients in the treatment group received an average of 5.2 sessions. Conclusion: EPVL is an efficient and secure procedure that facilitates lower pole stone discharge in obese patients following ESWL treatment. To support the aforementioned conclusions, additional large-scale multi-center prospective studies are required.

BACKGROUND: Multiple types of RNA modifications are associated with the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients. However, the overall mediating effect of RNA modifications on the tumor microenvironment (TME) and the prognosis of patients with HCC is unclear. METHODS: Thoroughly analyze the TME, biological processes, immune infiltration and patient prognosis based on RNA modification patterns and gene patterns. Construct a prognostic model (RNA modification score, RNAM-S) to predict the overall survival (OS) in HCC patients. Analyze the immune status, cancer stem cell (CSC), mutations and drug sensitivity of HCC patients in both the high and low RNAM-S groups. Verify the expression levels of the four characteristic genes of the prognostic RNAM-S using in vitro cell experiments. RESULTS: Two modification patterns and two gene patterns were identified in this study. Both the high-expression modification pattern and the gene pattern exhibited worse OS. A prognostic RNAM-S model was constructed based on four featured genes (KIF20A, NR1I2, NR2F1 and PLOD2). Cellular experiments suggested significant dysregulation of the expression levels of these four genes. In addition, validation of the RNAM-S model using each data set showed good predictive performance of the model. The two groups of HCC patients (high and low RNAM-S groups) exhibited significant differences in immune status, CSC, mutation and drug sensitivity. CONCLUSION: The findings of the study demonstrate the clinical value of RNA modifications, which provide new insights into the individualized treatment for patients with HCC.

Abnormal expression of myotubularin-related protein 2 (MTMR2) has been identified in certain types of cancer, leading to varying effects on tumor genesis and progression. However, the various biological significances of MTMR2 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) have not been systematically and comprehensively studied. The aim of this study was to explore the role of MTMR2 in HCC. We obtained the raw data from Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) databases. Afterward, we analyzed the data using R and cBioPortal. We investigated the connection between MTMR2 and its expression, prognosis, clinical significance, methylation, genetic alterations, tumor microenvironment (TME), tumor mutation burden (TMB), and drug reactivity in HCC patients. MTMR2 expression levels in HCC cells were validated through western blotting and RT-qPCR. MTMR2 exhibits high levels of expression across a wide range of cancer types, including HCC. MTMR2 is diagnostically valuable in detecting HCC, with its up-regulated expression often being indicative of poor prognosis among HCC patients. The in vitro experiments confirmed elevated MTMR2 expression in HepG2, HUH-7, and MHCC-97H cells. Univariate and multivariate Cox analysis demonstrated that MTMR2 was an independent prognostic factor in HCC patients. The cg20195272 site has the highest degree of methylation in MTMR2, and it is positively correlated with MTMR2 expression. Patients with high levels of methylation at the cg20195272 site show poor prognosis. Analysis of the TME indicates that high expression of MTMR2 is associated with elevated ESTIMATE score and that MTMR2 expression correlates positively with infiltration by resting memory CD4 T cells, activated dendritic cells, as well as several immune checkpoints. There is a negative correlation between MTMR2 expression and TMB, and drug sensitivity analyses have shown that higher MTMR2 expression is associated with lower IC50 values. This study indicates that increased expression of MTMR2 may play a crucial role in the occurrence, progression, diagnosis, prognostic prediction and drug therapy of HCC.

Poly(L-glutamic acid)-g-methoxy poly(ethylene glycol)/Combretastatin A4 (CA4)/BLZ945 nanoparticles (CB-NPs) have shown great potential in synergistic cancer therapy. However, it is still unclear how the nanoparticles' formula, such as injection dose, active agent ratio, and drug loading content, affects the side effects and in vivo efficacy of CB-NPs. In this study, a series of CB-NPs with different BLZ945/CA4 (B/C) ratios and drug loading contents were synthesized and evaluated on a hepatoma (H22) tumor-bearing mice model. The injection dose and B/C ratio were found to have a significant influence on the in vivo anticancer efficacy. The CB-NPs 20 with B/C weight ratio of 0.45/1, and total drug loading content (B + C) of 20.7 wt%, showed the highest potential for clinical application. Systematic pharmacokinetics, biodistribution, and in vivo efficacy evaluation for CB-NPs 20 have been finished, which may provide significant instruction for medicine screening and clinical application.

Different international associations have proposed their own guidelines on urolithiasis. However, the focus is primarily on an overview of the principles of urolithiasis management rather than step-by-step technical details for the procedure. The International Alliance of Urolithiasis (IAU) is releasing a series of guidelines on the management of urolithiasis. The current guideline on shockwave lithotripsy (SWL) is the third in the IAU guidelines series and provides a clinical framework for urologists and technicians performing SWL. A total of 49 recommendations are summarized and graded, covering the following aspects: indications and contraindications; preoperative patient evaluation; preoperative medication; prestenting; intraoperative analgesia or anesthesia; intraoperative position; stone localization and monitoring; machine and energy settings; intraoperative lithotripsy strategies; auxiliary therapy following SWL; evaluation of stone clearance; complications; and quality of life. The recommendations, tips, and tricks regarding SWL procedures summarized here provide important and necessary guidance for urologists along with technicians performing SWL. PATIENT SUMMARY: For kidney and urinary stones of less than 20 mm in size, shockwave lithotripsy (SWL) is an approach in which the stone is treated with shockwaves applied to the skin, without the need for surgery. Our recommendations on technical aspects of the procedure provide guidance for urologists and technicians performing SWL.

Vascular disrupting agents (VDAs) have great potential in antitumor therapy, while the efficiency is limited by cardiovascular toxicity. In this study, a self-activating nanoized plinabulin (poly (l-glutamic acid) grafted Azo-Plinabulin, AzoP-NP) was constructed. The AzoP-NPs can selectively be activated to an amino derivative of plinabulin (AmP) by intrinsic tumor hypoxia, disrupting tumor vessels and amplifying hypoxia, whilst be activated by self-amplified tumor hypoxia, then selectively inhibit tumor growth. In 4T1 tumor model, the AzoP-NPs had a selective biodistribution in tumor, as the free AmP in tumors at 24 h after AzoP-NPs treatment was 18.6 fold of that after AmP treatment and significantly higher than that in other tissues. Accordingly, AzoP-NPs resulted in no obvious acute cardiovascular toxicity (plasma von Willebrand factor in PBS, AzoP-NPs and AmP group: 143.1, 184.0 and 477.6 ng/mL) and a significantly stronger tumor inhibition than AmP. And the sustained release of drug in AzoP-NPs led to a higher maximum tolerated dose (MTD) (MTD of AzoP-NPs and AmP: > 80 vs 20 mg/kg). In addition, AzoP-NPs amplified tumor hypoxic, and synergized the anti-tumor effect of Tirapazamine (TPZ), a hypoxia-activated drug in clinical trials, with an inhibition rate of 97.7% and Q value of 1.89. Therefore, our findings provide new insights into next generation VDAs and their application in tumor therapy.

Introduction: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of performing extracorporeal physical vibrational lithecbole (EPVL) through greater sciatic foramen (GSF) for distal ureteral calculi (DUC) treatment. Materials and Methods: All patients with a diagnosis of DUC (6-10 mm in diameter) were enrolled in this study from October 2018 to May 2020. Patients were randomly divided into three groups receiving EPVL through GSF (Group A, n = 58), or abdominal (Group B, n = 60), or combined with oral use of tamsulosin at 0.4 mg daily (Group C, n = 63). Results: There was no significant difference observed in terms of demographic characteristics or size of stones among the three groups (p > 0.05). Compared with the Groups B and C, patients of the Group A displayed a significantly higher score of comfort, with a significantly decreased number of renal colic attacks or analgesics required (p < 0.01). The stone-free rate also significantly increased after 1 and 2 weeks of treatment (p < 0.01), despite such a significant difference among these groups vanishing after 4 weeks of treatment. Conclusion: EPVL in the prone position uses the GSF as the path and is a safe and effective approach to treat the distal ureteral calculi.

Introduction: Phosphodiesterase type 5-inhibitors (PDE5is) are the first-line treatment for patients with diabetes mellitus-induced erectile dysfunction (DMED), however, some patients are non-responser to PDE5is. We performed a perspective, randomized, comparative study to explore the efficacy of low intensity extracorporeal shock wave treatment (Li-ESWT) combined with vacuum erectile device (VED) in the treatment of DMED patients who were unresponsive to PDE5is. Methods: One hundred and five eligible patients were randomly divided into three groups: group A (VED), group B (Li-ESWT) and group C (VED plus Li-ESWT). Follow-up was conducted at 4 weeks, 8 weeks and 12 weeks after the end of treatment. The erectile function was estimated by the international index of erectile function-erectile function domain (IIEF-EF), erection hardness score (EHS), sexual encounter profile questions 2 and 3 (SEP2 and SEP3) and global assessment question 1 and 2 (GAQ1 and GAQ2) before and after treatment. The changes of five points in IIEF-EF were calculated as the minimal clinical important difference (MCID), which was considered as the main index of efficacy. Results: The MCID was achieved in 14.7%, 14.7% and 17.6% patients in group A at the follow up on 4 weeks, 8 weeks and 12 weeks, respectively (36.4%, 39.4% and 36.4% in group B; 36.4%, 51.5%, and 66.7% in group C). There were significant differences in the percentage of MCID cases between group A and group C at the follow up on 12 weeks (P<0.001), as well as that between group B and group C (P=0.014). Additionally, comparison in MCID within group C showed that there were significant differences between 4 weeks and 12 weeks follow-up (P=0.014). Conclusion: Our findings indicated the combined therapy Li-ESWT and VED was more beneficial to shift turn PDE5is non-responders to responders for moderate patients with DMED than VED or Li-ESWT monotherapy. Moreover, this study provided evidence that patients with DMED who failed after taking oral PDE5is could attempt to opt for an alternative physicotherapy (Li-ESWT or VED) prior to more invasive alternatives.

PURPOSE: The external physical vibration lithecbole (EPVL) is a new device that accelerates the discharge of urinary stones by changing the patient's body position and providing multi-directional simple harmonic waves. It is clinically employed to improve the stone-free rate (SFR). However, it is not widely accepted in clinical practice due to the lack of high-level evidentiary support and a standard protocol. The present meta-analysis aims at the evaluation of the efficacy and safety of EPVL treatment in improving the SFR. METHODS: This study was a systematic review and meta-analysis. A systematic literature review was conducted using PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Medline, the Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library to find randomized controlled trials (RCTs) as recent as April 2020 that evaluated the efficacy and safety of EPVL treatment for patients with stones/residual stones in the upper urinary tract. RESULTS: In total, 7 prospective studies with 1414 patients were included. Compared with patients in the control group, patients treated with an EPVL (the intervention group) had higher SFRs (95% CI: 0.59-0.86, RR = 0.71, P = .0004) and lower complication rates (95% CI: 1.37-3.12, RR = 2.07, P = .0006). In a subgroup analysis based on previous surgery (ESWL, RIRS), the intervention group had an improved SFR as compared to the control group (95% CI: 0.59-0.95, RR = 0.75, P = .02; 95% CI: 0.56-0.73, RR = 0.64, P < .00001, respectively). In a subgroup analysis based on stone location, the SFRs for stones in the upper/middle/lower calyx and renal pelvis were significantly higher in the intervention group than in the control group: for residual stones in the upper and middle calyx, 95% CI: 0.63-0.98, RR = 0.79, and P = .03; for residual stones in the lower calyx, 95% CI: 0.54-0.75, RR = 0.64, and P < .00001; for residual stones in the renal pelvis, 95% CI: 0.47-0.79, RR = 0.61, and P = .0002. However, the SFRs for ureter stones were not significantly different between groups (95% CI: 0.82 -1.05, RR = 0.93, P = .23). CONCLUSION: The external physical vibration lithecbole can effectively improve the SFR after ESWL and RIRS without significant side effects, especially for residual stones in the upper/middle/lower calyx and renal pelvis.

PURPOSE: The cumulative effect of measurable parameters on proximal ureteral stone clearance followed by the shock wave lithotripsy was assessed via the application of an artificial neural network. METHODS AND PATIENTS: From January 2015 to January 2020, 1182 patients with upper ureteral stone underwent extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) with supine position. The corresponding significance of each variable inputted in this network was determined by means of Wilk's generalized likelihood ratio test. If the connection weight of a given variable can be set to zero while maximizing the accuracy of the network classification, the variable is not considered an important predictor of stone removal. RESULTS: A total of 1174 cases (excluding 8 cases) were randomly assigned into a training group (813 cases), testing group (270 cases), and keeping group (91 cases). We evaluated artificial neural network analysis to the stone clearance rate of the training group, with a predictive accuracy of 93.2% (482/517 cases). While the predictive accuracy of the stone clearance rate of the training group was 75.3% (223 cases/296 cases). The order of importance of independent variables was stone length > course (d) > patient's age > Stone Width > PH value. CONCLUSION: The neural network possess a huge prediction potential for the invalidation of ESWL.

The aim of this study was to examine the anxiety status of the frontline clinical nurses in the designated hospitals for the treatment of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Wuhan and to analyze the influencing factors, to provide data for psychologic nursing.This study used a cross-sectional survey design and convenience sampling. The questionnaires were completed by 176 frontline clinical nurses. Anxiety was determined using the Hamilton anxiety scale. General data were collected using a survey. Correlation analyses were used.Among the 176 frontline nurses, 77.3% (136/176) had anxiety. The anxiety scores of the frontline clinical nurse fighting COVID-19 were 17.1 ±â€Š8.1. Anxiety symptoms, mild to moderate anxiety symptoms, and severe anxiety symptoms were found in 27.3%, 25%, and 25% of the nurses, respectively. Sex, age, marital status, length of service, and clinical working time against COVID-19 were associated with anxiety (P < .05).The frontline nurses working in the designated hospitals for the treatment of COVID-19 in Wuhan had serious anxiety. Sex, age, length of service, and clinical working time against COVID-19 were associated with anxiety in those nurses. Psychologic care guidance, counseling, and social support should be provided to the nurses to reduce their physical and mental burden. Nursing human resources in each province should be adjusted according to each province's reality.

To observe the efficacy and safety of External Physical Vibration Lithecbole (EPVL) in patients with upper ureteric stones 1.0-2.0 cm after extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL). A total of 271 patients with upper ureteric stones 1.0-2.0 cm were prospectively randomized into two groups. One hundred and twenty-seven cases in the treatment group accepted EPVL therapy and 144 cases as control after ESWL. The stone expulsion status and stone-free rates (SFRs) between two groups were compared at the 1st, 2nd and 4th weekends by imaging examinations. All of 271 patients were randomly assigned to two groups, of which 127 patients were included in the treatment group and 144 in the control group. EPVL was successful in assisting the discharge of stone fragments. The rate of stone expulsion at day 1 in the treatment group was significantly higher than in the control group (79.5% vs. 64.6%, P = 0.006). The SFRs of the 1st weekend (76.3% vs. 61.8%, P = 0.010), the 2nd weekend (88.2% vs. 77.1%, P = 0.017) and the 4th weekend (92.1% vs. 84.0%, P = 0.042) in the treatment group were all significantly higher than that in the control group. However, no statistical significance was found in complications between the two groups (P > 0.05). Furthermore, in the treatment group the patients were treated a mean 4.3 sessions of EPVL. EPVL and ESWL are ideal complementary partners in the treatment of upper ureteric stones 1.0-2.0 cm, satisfying both high SFR and low complication. This method is safe and reproducible in clinical practice, and it also needs large-scale multicenter prospective studies further to prove the above conclusions.
