RESUMEN

Luminescent metal clusters have attracted great interest in current research; however, the design synthesis of Al clusters with color-tunable luminescence remains challenging. Herein, an [Al8 (OH)8 (NA)16 ] (Al8 , HNA = nicotinic acid) molecular cluster with dual luminescence properties of fluorescence and room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) is synthesized by choosing HNA ligand as phosphor. Its prompt photoluminescence (PL) spectrum exhibits approximately white light emission at room temperature. Considering that halogen atoms can be used to regulate the RTP property by balancing the singlet and triplet excitons, different CdX2 (X- = Cl- , Br- , I- ) are introduced into the reactive system of the Al8 cluster, and three new Al8 cluster-based metal-organic frameworks, {[Al8 Cd3 Cl5 (OH)8 (NA)17 H2 O]·2HNA}n (CdCl2 -Al8 ), {[Al8 Cd4 Br7 (OH)8 (NA)16 CH3 CN]·NA·HNA}n (CdBr2 -Al8 ) and {[Al8 Cd8 I16 (OH)8 (NA)16 ]}n (CdI2 -Al8 ) are successfully obtained. They realize the color tunability from blue to yellow at room temperature. The origination of fluorescence and phosphorescence has also been illustrated by structure-property analysis and theoretical calculation. This work provides new insights into the design of multicolor luminescent metal cluster-based materials and develops advanced photo-functional materials for multicolor display, anti-counterfeiting, and encryption applications.

RESUMEN

AIM: This study compared the 5-year incidence rate of macrovascular and microvascular complications for tirzepatide, semaglutide and insulin glargine in individuals with type 2 diabetes, using the Building, Relating, Assessing, and Validating Outcomes (BRAVO) diabetes simulation model. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: This study was a 5-year SURPASS-2 trial extrapolation, with an insulin glargine arm added as an additional comparator. The 1-year treatment effects of tirzepatide (5, 10 or 15 mg), semaglutide (1 mg) and insulin glargine on glycated haemoglobin, systolic blood pressure, low-density lipoprotein and body weights were obtained from the SUSTAIN-4 and SURPASS-2 trials. We used the BRAVO model to predict 5-year complications for each study arm under two scenarios: the 1-year treatment effects persisted (optimistic) or diminished to none in 5 years (conservative). RESULTS: When compared with insulin glargine, we projected a 5-year risk reduction in cardiovascular adverse events [rate ratio (RR) 0.64, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.61-0.67] and microvascular composite (RR 0.67, 95% CI 0.64-0.70) with 15 mg tirzepatide, and 5-year risk reduction in cardiovascular adverse events (RR 0.75, 95% CI 0.72-0.79) and microvascular composite (RR 0.79, 95% CI 0.76-0.82) with semaglutide (1 mg) under an optimistic scenario. Lower doses of tirzepatide also had similar, albeit smaller benefits. Treatment effects for tirzepatide and semaglutide were smaller but still significantly higher than insulin glargine under a conservative scenario. The 5-year risk reduction in diabetes-related complication events and mortality for the 15 mg tirzepatide compared with insulin glargine ranged from 49% to 10% under an optimistic scenario, which was reduced by 17%-33% when a conservative scenario was assumed. CONCLUSION: With the use of the BRAVO diabetes model, tirzepatide and semaglutide exhibited potential to reduce the risk of macrovascular and microvascular complications among individuals with type 2 diabetes, compared with insulin glargine in a 5-year window. Based on the current modelling assumptions, tirzepatide (15 mg) may potentially outperform semaglutide (1 mg). While the BRAVO model offered insights, the long-term cardiovascular benefit of tirzepatide should be further validated in a prospective clinical trial.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Ageing process and abnormal protein accumulation in dementia damage neural pathways affecting the swallowing process and leading to swallowing disorder. OBJECTIVE: To estimate the prevalence of swallowing disorder among older adults with different dementia subtypes. METHODS: We conducted a systematic search across multiple databases, including PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science and OVID Medline. The meta-analysis employed R (version 4.0.2) and utilised a generalised linear mixed model with a random-effect approach to estimate the pooled prevalence of swallowing disorder among older adults, considering various dementia subtypes. The quality of included studies was assessed using Hoy's criteria. Heterogeneity was identified through Cochrane's Q and I2 statistics. To further explore heterogeneity, moderator analysis was performed to identify the contributing variables among the included studies. RESULTS: Eighteen studies with 12,532 older adults with different dementia subtypes were enrolled in our meta-analysis. The pooled prevalence of swallowing disorder among older adults with dementia was 58%, with 46.5% for Alzheimer's dementia, 34.9% for Parkinson's dementia, 18.8% for vascular dementia, 16.3% for mixed dementia and 12.2% for Lewy body dementia. According to assessment tools, Alzheimer's dementia had the highest prevalence, with 58% in instrumental assessments and 39% in clinical assessments. Medical history, Alzheimer's dementia, moderate-to-severe Clinical Dementia Rating, delayed oral phase, delayed pharyngeal phase and poor tongue motility contributed to the heterogeneity of the included studies. CONCLUSIONS: More than half of older adults with dementia demonstrate to have swallowing disorder. Our findings offer valuable insights to healthcare professionals for the identification of swallowing disorder in ageing population with dementia.

RESUMEN

Cadmium (Cd) pollution is a serious global environmental problem, which requires a global concern and practical solutions. Microbial remediation has received widespread attention owing to advantages, such as environmental friendliness and soil amelioration. However, Cd toxicity also severely deteriorates the remediation performance of functional microorganisms. Analyzing the mechanism of bacterial resistance to Cd stress will be beneficial for the application of Cd remediation. In this study, the bacteria strain, up to 1400 mg/L Cd resistance, was employed and identified as Proteus mirabilis Ch8 (Ch8) through whole genome sequence analyses. The results indicated that the multiple pathways of immobilizing and detoxifying Cd maintained the growth of Ch8 under Cd stress, which also possessed high Cd extracellular adsorption. Firstly, the changes in surface morphology and functional groups of Ch8 cells were observed under different Cd conditions through SEM-EDS and FTIR analyses. Under 100 mg/L Cd, Ch8 cells exhibited aggregation and less flagella; the Cd biosorption of Ch8 was predominately by secreting exopolysaccharides (EPS) and no significant change of functional groups. Under 500 mg/L Cd, Ch8 were present irregular polymers on the cell surface, some cells with wrapping around; the Cd biosorption capacity exhibited outstanding effects (38.80 mg/g), which was mainly immobilizing Cd by secreting and interacting with EPS. Then, Ch8 also significantly enhanced the antioxidant enzyme activity and the antioxidant substance content under different Cd conditions. The activities of SOD and CAT, GSH content of Ch8 under 500 mg/L Cd were significantly increased by 245.47%, 179.52%, and 241.81%, compared to normal condition. Additionally, Ch8 significantly induced the expression of Acr A and Tol C (the resistance-nodulation-division (RND) efflux pump), and some antioxidant genes (SodB, SodC, and Tpx) to reduce Cd damage. In particular, the markedly higher expression levels of SodB under Cd stress. The mechanism of Ch8 lays a foundation for its application in solving soil remediation.

RESUMEN

The aim of this study is to systematically summarize the available evidence regarding low-level laser therapy (LLLT) speed-up effect on dental alignment in comprehensive orthodontic treatment. An extensive electronic search was conducted in PubMed, ScienceDirect, Cochrane, Web of Science, and Scopus up to February 20, 2023. The Cochrane risk of bias tool and the Newcastle-Ottawa Quality Assessment Form were used by two authors independently to assess the risk of bias (RoB). Statistical analysis was performed by Review Manager 5.3. The eight eligible trials were reviewed and included in qualitative synthesis. Four studies reported the overall time of leveling and alignment (OLAT, days), enabling a synthesizing of the data. The meta-analysis results showed that LLLT significantly reduced the overall time of leveling and alignment compared to control group (MD=-30.36, 95% CI range -41.50 to -19.22, P<0.0001), with moderate heterogeneity (χ2=4.10, P=0.25, I2=27%). Based on the data available, statistically significant evidence with moderate risk of bias suggests that LLLT may have a positive effect on accelerating dental alignment. However, due to the differences in intervention strategy and evaluating method, the conclusions should be interpreted with caution.

RESUMEN

Angiopoietin-like proteins (ANGPTLs), a family of eight secreted glycoproteins termed ANGTPL1-8, are involved in angiogenesis, lipid metabolism, cancer progression, and inflammation. Their roles in regulating lipid metabolism have been intensively studied, as some ANGPTLs are promising pharmacological targets for hypertriglyceridemia and associated cardiovascular disease. Recently, the emerging roles of ANGPTLs in inflammation have attracted great attention. First, elevated levels of multiple circulating ANGPTLs in inflammatory diseases make them potential disease biomarkers. Second, multiple ANGPTLs regulate acute or chronic inflammation via various mechanisms, including triggering inflammatory signaling through their action as ligands for integrin or forming homo- /hetero-oligomers to regulate signal transduction via extra- or intracellular mechanisms. As dysregulation of the inflammatory response is a critical trigger in many diseases, understanding the roles of ANGPTLs in inflammation will aid in drug/therapy development. Here, we summarize the roles, mechanisms, and potential therapeutic values for ANGPTLs in inflammation and inflammatory diseases.

RESUMEN

Obesity is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease, leading to ventricular dysfunction and cardiac fibrosis, in which non-cardiomyocytes (nonCMs) play an important role. Early detection and treatment of heart illness may help to limit its progression. We screened for key markers of obesity-induced cardiac fibrosis using single-cell transcriptomics techniques. To begin, an obese mouse model was constructed using a high-fat diet. From a pathogenic perspective, pathological alterations in the obesity-induced heart were found. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified and functional enrichment analysis was performed. Then, to look for hub genes, key modules of DEGs were built. Finally, the cellular location of the hub genes was investigated. In mice, a high-fat diet raised body weight, messed up myocardial shape, and increased cardiac collagen content. NonCMs transcriptome data revealed 15 different cell types, including fibroblasts, immunological cells, and endothelial cells. There were a total of 33 DEGs found, with 22 up-regulated genes and 11 down-regulated genes. DEGs have a high connection with collagen and extracellular matrix (ECM), according to functional enrichment analysis. Col1a1 and Col1a2 scored well in module analysis and hub gene screening, and were chosen as hub genes. Col1a1 and Col1a2 were shown to be mostly expressed by fibroblasts after localization study. As a result, we believe Col1a1 and Col1a2 may be important markers of obesity-induced cardiac fibrosis, in which fibroblasts play a critical role.

RESUMEN

Non-cardiomyocytes (nonCMs) play an important part in cardiac fibrosis pathophysiology, but the underlying molecular pathways are unknown. Semaglutide has cardioprotective properties, but it is still unclear whether it helps with cardiac fibrosis and what the processes are. The goal of this study is to use single cell transcriptomics approaches to investigate the molecular mechanism of semaglutide's cardioprotective action in obese mice. We found 15 non-CMs, with fibroblasts making up the majority of them. We found eight DEGs that altered significantly following semaglutide treatment by screening for differentially expressed genes (DEGs). DEGs were shown to have biological activities primarily related to extracellular matrix and collagen synthesis and distribution, with Serpinh1 and Pcolce expression being the most dramatically altered. Serpinh1 and Pcolce were mostly found in fibroblasts, which play a key role in the fibrosis of the heart. Furthermore, we discovered that semaglutide lowered cardiac collagen content and alleviated obesity-induced ventricular wall hypertrophy. As a result, our findings show that Serpinh1 and Pcolce, which are expressed by fibroblasts, may play a role in the development of obese cardiac fibrosis. By reducing Serpinh1 and Pcolce expression and delaying cardiac fibrosis, semaglutide may have a cardioprotective effect.

RESUMEN

With an increasing prevalence of obesity related kidney disease, exploring the mechanisms of therapeutic method is of critical importance. Empagliflozin is a new antidiabetic agent with broad clinical application prospect in cardiovascular and renal diseases. However, a metabonomics-based renoprotective mechanism of empagliflozin in obesity remains unclear. Our results showed that empagliflozin significantly alleviated the deposition of lipid droplet, glomerular and tubular injury. The innovation lied in detection of empagliflozin-targeted differential metabolites in kidneys. Compared with normal control mice, obese mice showed higher levels of All-trans-heptaprenyl diphosphate, Biliverdin, Galabiose, Galabiosylceramide (d18:1/16:0), Inosine, Methylisocitric acid, Uric acid, Xanthosine, O-glutarylcarnitine, PG(20:3(8Z,11Z,14Z)/0:0), PG(20:4(5Z,8Z,11Z,14Z)/0:0), PE(O-16:0/0:0), PG(22:6(4Z,7Z,10Z,13Z,16Z,19Z)/0:0), and lower level of Adenosine. Empagliflozin regulated these metabolites in the opposite direction. Associated metabolic pathways were Phospholipids metabolism, Purine metabolism, and Biliverdin metabolism. Most of metabolites were associated with inflammatory response and oxidative stress. Empagliflozin improved the oxidative stress and inflammation imbalance. Our study revealed the metabonomics-based renoprotective mechanism of empagliflozin in obese mice for the first time. Empagliflozin may be a promising tool to delay the progression of obesity-related kidney disease.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate relationships among the demands of immigration, resilience, and psychological distress in divorced immigrant women, and determine the mediating effects of resilience on the relationship between demands of immigration and psychological distress. DESIGN: The cross-sectional study included 117 women who had immigrated and married Taiwanese men but later got divorced. METHODS: The Chinese health questionnaire-12 scale, the resilience scale-Chinese version, and the demands of immigration (DI) scale were used to measure in this study. A multiple regression and Sobel test were used to examine whether resilience mediated the relationship between demands of immigration and psychological distress. FINDINGS: In this study, 47% of the divorced immigrant women were experiencing psychological distress, and 25.6% exhibited high levels of demands of immigration. Women with psychological distress had higher demand scores (t = 2.592, p = 0.011) and lower resilience scores (t = -3.965, p < 0.001) compared to women without psychological distress. The demands of immigration negatively predicted resilience (t = -3.050, p = 0.003). Finally, resilience mediated the association of demands of immigration with psychological distress (z = 2.497, p = 0.0125). CONCLUSIONS: Relationships among the demands of immigration, resilience, and psychological distress in divorced immigrant women were demonstrated in this study. Resilience played an important role in the relationship between demands of immigration and psychological distress. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Tailored programs that foster resilience to reduce risks of demands of immigration and psychological distress in this vulnerable population should be developed.

RESUMEN

Sleep disturbance is highly prevalent among shift-working nurses. We aimed to evaluate whether aerobic exercise (i.e., walking combined with jogging) improves objective sleep parameters among female nurses who met eligibility criterion as poor sleepers at the end of an 8-week exercise program and 4 weeks after study completion. This single-blinded, parallel-design, randomized controlled trial was conducted in a classroom of a hospital in northern Taiwan. Sixty eligible female nurses were randomly assigned to either the aerobic exercise (n = 30) or usual activity status (n = 30) group. A moderate-intensity aerobic exercise program was administered over 5 days (60 min per day) a week for 8 weeks after the nurses' day shifts. Objective sleep outcomes including total sleep time (TST), sleep onset latency (SOL), wake after sleep onset (WASO), and sleep efficiency (SE) were retrieved using an actigraph device. A generalized estimating equation model was used for data analysis. The aerobic exercise group exhibited improvements in TST and SE at 4 and 8 weeks compared with the baseline evaluation (TST: B = 70.49 and 55.96; SE: B = 5.21 and 3.98). Between-group differences were observed in SOL and WASO at 4 weeks but not 8 weeks compared with the baseline evaluation (SOL: B = -7.18; WASO: B = -11.38). Positive lasting effects for TST were observed only until the 4-week follow-up. To improve sleep quality and quantity, we encourage female nurses who sleep poorly to regularly perform moderate-intensity aerobic exercise.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: Stroke has become a national concern in China. Early prediction of stroke benefits patients and aids medical professionals in clinical decision making and rehabilitation plans to improve successful outcomes. To identify prediction factors influencing short-term outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). MATERIALS AND METHODS: This was a hospital-based prospective observational study. Recovery of neurological improvement was represented by a percent reduction in the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) at discharge. We performed propensity score matching (PSM) to balance the NIHSS at admission and compared NIHSS scores before and after matching with PSM criteria. Finally, we assessed the prognosis of neurological improvement and patient-related variables. RESULTS: In the matched cohort, 92 pairs were matched by NIHSS admission after PSM. Modified Barthel Index, modified Rankin scale, NIHSS on admission, hypertension, sleep time, and Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) were statistically different between the two groups (P<0.05) before matching. Multivariable analysis identified two factors independently associated with neurological improvement: diabetes (P=0.030; adjusted odds ratio, 2.129; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.078-4.026) and MoCA (P<0.001; adjusted odds ratio, 5.385; 95% CI 2.278-12.730). CONCLUSION: Consistent with previous studies, diabetes affected the short-term outcomes of AIS, while cognitive impairment had a negative effect on long-term AIS prognosis.Diabetes and early cognitive impairment have adverse effects on short-term prognosis after AIS.

RESUMEN

The extensive use of tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) poses a threat to human health and the aquatic environment. Here, magnetic p-n Bi2WO6/CuFe2O4 catalyst was fabricated to efficiently remove TCH. The obtained Bi2WO6/CuFe2O4 exhibited 92.1% TCH degradation efficiency and 50.7% and 35.1% mineralization performance for TCH and raw secondary effluent from a wastewater treatment plant in a photo-Fenton-like system, respectively. The remarkable performance was attributed to the fact that photogenerated electrons accelerated the Fe(III)/Fe(II) and Cu(II)/Cu(I) conversion for the Fenton-like reaction between Fe(II)/Cu(I) and H2O2, thereby generating abundant •OH for pollutant oxidation. Various environmental factors including H2O2 concentration, initial pH, catalyst dosage, TCH concentration and inorganic ions were explored. The reactive oxidation species (ROS) quenching results and electron spin resonance (ESR) spectra confirmed that •O2- and •OH were responsible for the dark and photo-Fenton-like systems, respectively. The degradation mechanisms and pathways of TCH were proposed, and the toxicity of products was evaluated. This work contributes a highly efficient and environmentally friendly catalyst and provides a clear mechanistic explanation for the removal of antibiotic pollutants in environmental remediation.

RESUMEN

Nine new epipoly(thiodioxopiperazine) (ETP) analogues, chetocochliodins A-I (1-9), along with two known ones, chetoseminudins E and C (10 and 11), were purified from the fungus Chaetomium cochliodes. The planar structures and absolute configurations of these new compounds were determined by extensive NMR spectroscopic analysis, CD spectra, and chemical reactions. Shielding effects from the indole on the 3-SCH3/3-OCH3/3-OCH2- groups facilitated the determination of relative configuration of the analogues. Compound 9 was cytotoxic, suggesting the importance of the sulfide bridge for the diketopiperazine bioactivities.

RESUMEN

Drought and soil salinity reduce agricultural output worldwide. Plant-growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) can enhance plant growth and augment plant tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses. Haloxylon ammodendron, a C4 perennial succulent xerohalophyte shrub with excellent drought and salt tolerance, is naturally distributed in the desert area of northwest China. In our previous work, a bacterium strain numbered as M30-35 was isolated from the rhizosphere of H. ammodendron in Tengger desert, Gansu province, northwest China. In current work, the effects of M30-35 inoculation on salt tolerance of perennial ryegrass were evaluated and its genome was sequenced to identify genes associated with plant growth promotion. Results showed that M30-35 significantly enhanced growth and salt tolerance of perennial ryegrass by increasing shoot fresh and dry weights, chlorophyll content, root volume, root activity, leaf catalase activity, soluble sugar and proline contents that contributed to reduced osmotic potential, tissue K⁺ content and K⁺/Na⁺ ratio, while decreasing malondialdehyde (MDA) content and relative electric conductivity (REC), especially under higher salinity. The genome of M30-35 contains 4421 protein encoding genes, 12 rRNA, 63 tRNA-encoding genes and four rRNA operons. M30-35 was initially classified as a new species in Pseudomonas and named as Pseudomonas sp. M30-35. Thirty-four genes showing homology to genes associated with PGPR traits and abiotic stress tolerance were identified in Pseudomonas sp. M30-35 genome, including 12 related to insoluble phosphorus solubilization, four to auxin biosynthesis, four to other process of growth promotion, seven to oxidative stress alleviation, four to salt and drought tolerance and three to cold and heat tolerance. Further study is needed to clarify the correlation between these genes from M30-35 and the salt stress alleviation of inoculated plants under salt stress. Overall, our research indicated that desert shrubs appear rich in PGPRs that can help important crops tolerate abiotic stress.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Nurses comprise a group in the healthcare team that is exposed to the highest levels of workplace violence. This not only causes negative emotions in nurses and adversely impacts the institution and the body and spirit of the nurses but also affects the quality of nursing care. PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of physical and psychological workplace violence experienced by the nursing staff and to identify the perpetrators of violence, the reactions of the victims, and the policies developed by employers to prevent violence. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted using a stratified sampling method across different levels of healthcare institutions on the nursing personnel registered with the Taipei Nurses Association. The number of subjects was allocated according to hospital level. A total of 2,931 subjects were recruited, of whom 2,627 participated in this study. RESULTS: Over two-thirds (70.6% ) of participants had experienced workplace violence, of whom 31.0% had experienced physical violence and 66.0% had experienced psychological violence. A multiple logistic regression analysis showed that nurses who were married, who had less than one year of work experience, or were over 50 years of age were at lower risk of physical and psychological violence. Those who had a university education or higher faced a higher risk of psychological violence. The most common perpetrators were identified as patients. The aftermath reactions from the victims were varied, with the most prevalent being "telling the perpetrator to stop the violence", "telling friends or family," and "reporting the incident to a senior staff member". The perpetrators were mostly dealt with using a verbal warning, while the second-most common strategy was taking no action. Only 2.3% ‡6.8% of the victims notified the authorities about the violence because of the following primary reasons: "useless," "not important," and "fear of negative consequences." The major strategies that were adopted by employers to prevent violence included "security measures," "improvement of surroundings," and "training." RESUMEN

Trichoderpyrone (1), a unique polyketide with a cyclopentenone-pyrone hybrid skeleton, was isolated from the plant endophytic fungus Trichoderma gamsii. The structure of 1 was determined by detailed analysis of NMR data together with comparison of chemical shift values of similar fragments. The relative and absolute configurations were established by NOESY correlations and CD experiment. Trichoderpyrone (1) displayed weak cytotoxic activities against A549, HepG2, and HeLa cancer cell lines. 1 might originate from a hybrid biosynthetic pathway through two nonreduced (NR) polyketide megasynthetases.

RESUMEN

The seeds of Amygdalus mongolica contain various constituents including flavonoids and vitamin E, which are known to exert antioxidant effects. However, the safety of the oil extract of this compound is not fully known. The aim of this study was to determine the physicochemical properties of A. mongolica oil, identify the constituents and subsequently assess the effectiveness of utilizing this seed extract in hyperlipidemia as an antioxidant agent. In particular, the toxicity and safety of A. mongolica oil were examined with emphasis on effects on blood lipids level and serum lipid peroxidation using a hyperlipidemia rat model. Treatment with 20 ml/kg A. mongolica oil produced no apparent adverse effects after 14 days in normal female and male rats. A dose of 2.5-10 ml/kg A. mongolica oil administered to hyperlipidemic male rats significantly decreased serum total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein-C (LDL-C), malondialdehyde (MDA), total cholesterol high-density lipoprotein-C (TC/HDL-C), LDL-C/HDL-C, and atherosclerosis index(AI). In contrast, glutathione (GSH) levels and activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) were significantly increased. Data demonstrated that A. mongolica oil may be utilized in conditions of hyperlipidemia due to its antioxidant effects.

RESUMEN

Water retaining agent (WRA) is widely used for soil erosion control and agricultural water saving. Here, we evaluated the effects of the combination of beneficial soil bacterium Bacillus amyloliquefaciens strain GB03 and WRA (the compound is super absorbent hydrogels) on drought tolerance of perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.). Seedlings were subjected to natural drought for maximum 20 days by stopping watering and then rewatered for seven days. Plant survival rate, biomass, photosynthesis, water status and leaf cell membrane integrity were measured. The results showed that under severe drought stress (20-day natural drought), compared to control, GB03, WRA and GB03+WRA all significantly improved shoot fresh weight, dry weight, relative water content (RWC) and chlorophyll content and decreased leaf relative electric conductivity (REC) and leaf malondialdehyde (MDA) content; GB03+WRA significantly enhanced chlorophyll content compared to control and other two treatments. Seven days after rewatering, GB03, WRA and GB03+WRA all significantly enhanced plant survival rate, biomass, RWC and maintained chlorophyll content compared to control; GB03+WRA significantly enhanced plant survival rate, biomass and chlorophyll content compared to control and other two treatments. The results established that GB03 together with water retaining agent promotes ryegrass growth under drought conditions by improving survival rate and maintaining chlorophyll content.

RESUMEN

Penicilfuranone A (1), a novel furancarboxylic acid, and its proposed biosynthetic precursor, gregatin A (2), were isolated from the cultures of the fungus Penicillium sp. sh18 endophytic to the stems of Isodon eriocalyx var. laxiflora guided by HPLC-MS. X-ray crystallography was applied to the structure determination of furancarboxylic acid for the first time, allowing unambiguous assignment of 1. Penicilfuranone A displays a significant antifibrotic effect in activated hepatic stellate cells via negative regulation of transforming growth factor-ß (TGF-ß)/Smad signaling.
