BACKGROUND: Serum adipokines (leptin and adiponectin) are dysregulated before the onset of metabolic syndrome and hence may be useful biomarkers for screening of cardiometabolic late effects in childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (cALL) survivors. METHODS: We compared serum adipokine levels between 40 cALL survivors (aged 10-18 years, >2 years from treatment completion) with similar controls. A multivariable logistic regression analysis was then done to assess the association of metabolic syndrome in cALL survivors with variables including adipokines and other metabolic parameters, demographic and treatment details, and Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry scan-derived variables. RESULTS: Compared to controls, cALL survivors had a higher prevalence of metabolic syndrome (8/40 vs. 2/40, P = .044) and central obesity (11/40 vs. 4/40, P = 0.042). Median Serum Leptin (7.39 vs. 4.23 ng/ml, P = 0.207) levels and derived Leptin-Adiponectin Ratio (1.44 vs. 0.80, P = 0.598), were higher but not statistically different in our survivors compared to controls; Adiponectin levels were similar (6.07 vs. 5.01 µg/ml, P = 0.283). In the cALL survivors, overweight/obesity (odds ratio [OR] 21.9, P = 0.020) or higher Leptin levels (OR 1.11, P = 0.047), were independently associated with metabolic syndrome. CONCLUSIONS: Serum Leptin, independently predictive of metabolic syndrome in our cALL survivors, may be tested in larger studies to assess its utility in surveillance and initiation of early preventive measures.

RESUMEN

Three-year-old boy who presented with colicky abdominal pain, diarrhoea and vomiting was investigated with computed tomography which revealed a mass in the peripancreatic region. An imaging possibility of duodenal intramural hematoma was considered after reassessment with ultrasound which was subsequently confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging. The development of a spontaneous duodenal hematoma lead to further evaluation of the patient and revealed X linked hyper IgM syndrome.

RESUMEN

This review is intended to familiarize readers with an emerging group of fungal infections that mostly manifest in immunocompetent individuals. This group was initially considered endemic to the tropics, but increasing worldwide prevalence has been reported. The organisms have been divided into dominant non-invasive forms and dominant invasive forms for ease of understanding. The non-invasive organisms include the group Entomophthoromycota, under which two genera Basidiobolus and Conidiobolus, have been identified as human pathogens. They present with plaques in the extremities and rhinofacial region, respectively. The invasive organisms are dematiaceous fungi (phaeohypomycosis), which includes Cladophialophora and Exophiala among others. They cause invasion of deep tissues, with the central nervous system being the most common target. The mycology, epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment options have been summarized in brief. The clinical presentation, imaging manifestations, differentiation from other common infections and malignancies that show similar features have been detailed.

In low-risk febrile neutropenia (LR-FN), the safety of early discontinuation of empiric antibiotics without marrow recovery is not well established. This study aimed to evaluate the safety of procalcitonin (PCT) guided early discontinuation of antibiotics in LR-FN. In this trial, children with LR-FN with an afebrile period of at least 24 h, sterile blood culture, and negative/normalized PCT were randomized at 72 h of starting antibiotics into two groups: intervention arm and standard arm. The antibiotics were stopped in the intervention arm regardless of absolute neutrophil count (ANC), while in the standard arm, antibiotics were continued for at least 7 days or until recovery of ANC (>500/mm3). The primary objective was to determine the treatment failure rates, and the secondary objective was to compare the duration of antibiotics and all-cause mortality between the two arms. A total of 46 children with LR-FN were randomized to either the intervention arm (n = 23) or the standard arm (n = 23). Treatment failure was observed in 2/23 (8.7%) of patients in the intervention arm compared to 1/23 (4.3%) in the standard arm [RR: 2 (95% CI: 0.19-20.6); p = 0.55]. The median duration of antibiotics in the intervention arm and standard arm were 3 days vs 7 days (P= <0.001). There was no mortality in this study. PCT-guided early discontinuation of empirical antibiotics in LR-FN is feasible. There was no significant difference observed in treatment failure between the early discontinuation of antibiotics vs standard therapy. The total duration of antibiotic exposure was significantly lesser in the discontinuation arm. Further, larger multicenter studies are needed to confirm the finding of this study.

To gain insights into the idiosyncrasies of CD34 + enriched leukemic stem cells, we investigated the nature and extent of transcriptional heterogeneity by single-cell sequencing in pediatric AML. Whole transcriptome analysis of 28,029 AML single cells was performed using the nanowell cartridge-based barcoding technology. Integrated transcriptional analysis identified unique leukemic stem cell clusters of each patient and intra-patient heterogeneity was revealed by multiple LSC-enriched clusters differing in their cell cycle processes and BCL2 expression. All LSC-enriched clusters exhibited gene expression profile of dormancy and self-renewal. Upregulation of genes involved in non-coding RNA processing and ribonucleoprotein assembly were observed in LSC-enriched clusters relative to HSC. The genes involved in regulation of apoptotic processes, response to cytokine stimulus, and negative regulation of transcription were upregulated in LSC-enriched clusters as compared to the blasts. Validation of top altered genes in LSC-enriched clusters confirmed upregulation of TCF7L2, JUP, ARHGAP25, LPAR6, and PRDX1 genes, and serine/threonine kinases (STK24, STK26). Upregulation of LPAR6 showed trend towards MRD positive status (Odds ratio = 0.126; 95% CI = 0.0144-1.10; p = 0.067) and increased expression of STK26 significantly correlated with higher RFS (HR = 0.231; 95% CI = 0.0506-1.052; p = 0.04). Our findings addressed the inter- and intra-patient diversity within AML LSC and potential signaling and chemoresistance-associated targets that warrant investigation in larger cohort that may guide precision medicine in the near future.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: A limited number of safe and effective preventive options for oral mucositis (OM) are available. This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of zinc in preventing OM in children with cancer receiving intensified chemotherapy. METHODS: Children aged 3-18 years were randomized to receive oral zinc at 1 mg/kg/dose daily for 14 days or a placebo at the same doses and schedule. The primary outcome of this study was to determine the effect of oral zinc in the prevention of OM, and secondary outcomes included any adverse effect of oral zinc, the severity and duration of OM, and the need for hospitalizations. RESULTS: A total of 90 children were randomized to either the oral zinc (n = 44) or placebo group (n = 46). The incidence of OM in the zinc group was 20.5%, while that in the placebo group was 19.6% (p = .91; risk ratio: 1.04, 95% CI 0.45-2.30). There were no significant adverse events of the drug observed. There were no significant differences between the two groups in the severity (p = .79), the mean time of onset (p = .09), the mean duration of OM (p = .18), and the need for hospitalizations (p = 1.0). CONCLUSIONS: Among children on cancer chemotherapy, there was no decrease in the incidence of OM observed with oral zinc at a dose of 1 mg/kg/day. No significant adverse events were observed with administering oral zinc. Further research is warranted to test higher doses of oral zinc with longer duration for a clinically significant effect.

INTRODUCTION: The InPOG-HL-15-01, a multicentric prospective study, used a risk-stratified and response-based approach with doxorubicin, bleomycin, vinblastine, and dacarbazine (ABVD) backbone to treat children and adolescents with newly diagnosed Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) and reduce the use of radiation therapy (RT). Children/adolescents with bulky disease or inadequate response at early response assessment (ERA) after two cycles of chemotherapy were assigned to receive RT. For ERA, positron emission tomography computed tomography (PET-CT) was recommended but not mandatory in view of limited access. This study aimed to compare the impact of using contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) and PET-CT on treatment decisions and outcomes. METHODOLOGY: 396 patients were enrolled and 382 had an ERA at the assigned time point. Satisfactory response was defined as Deauville score 3 or less for patients undergoing PET-CT and complete response (CR)/very good partial response (VGPR) for patients undergoing CECT. Outcomes of interest incorporate 5 year event-free survival (EFS), EFS including abandonment (EFSa), and overall survival (OS). RESULTS: At ERA, satisfactory response was documented in 277 out of 382 (72.5%) participants and this was significantly higher in PET-CT (151 out of 186, 81.2%) as compared with CECT-based assessments (126 out of 196, 64.3%) respectively (p value < .001). Amongst the 203 patients with nonbulky disease (wherein the indication for RT was entirely dependent on ERA), 96 out of 114 (84.2%) and 61 out of 89 (68.5%) patients achieved a satisfactory response according to the PET-CT and CECT (p value = .008) respectively and hence a lesser proportion of patients in the PET-CT arm received RT. Despite a lower usage of RT the 5 year OS of both groups, ERA based on CECT (91.8%) versus PET-CT (94.1%) was comparable (p value = .391) and so was the 5 year EFS (86.7 vs. 85.5%, p value = .724). CONCLUSION: Use of PET-CT as the modality for ERA is more likely to indicate a satisfactory response as compared with CECT and thereby decreases the need for RT in response-based treatment algorithm for HL-afflicted children. The reduction in the application of RT did not impact the overall outcome and plausibly would lower the risk of delayed toxic effects.

Almost half of the patients with Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) are refractory to primary induction chemotherapy or undergo reactivation. The ideal treatment modality for refractory/relapsed LCH is yet not evidenced. This review aimed to determine the efficacy and safety of vemurafenib (a BRAF pathway inhibitor) in LCH, particularly the refractory/relapsed cases. The literature search was conducted using PubMed, Embase, CENTRAL, and abstracts published in the SIOP meetings. Studies that described the outcome of patients of LCH being treated with vemurafenib, alone or in combination, were included. A total of 416 studies were screened, and after applying exclusion criteria, 22 studies (n = 107) were included in the final analysis. The first-line therapy was prednisolone plus vinblastine for most patients (n = 92, 86%), and vemurafenib was started upfront in 3 patients (3%). The median time to first clinical response with vemurafenib was one week. The median time to best response was 5.25 months. Out of 107 patients, 62 patients (58%) had ultimately no active disease (NAD) while 39 (36%) had active disease better (ADB), making the overall response rate (ORR) of 101/107, ie, 94.4% (CI 0.88; 0.98). The main adverse effects of vemurafenib were rash or photosensitivity (47%) and other cutaneous adverse events (15%). Vemurafenib is highly efficacious and safe in the treatment of refractory LCH; however, the timing of its commencement and duration of therapy is yet to be established. Larger prospective collaborative trials are needed to answer the appropriate treatment duration and effective maintenance therapy approach.

BACKGROUND: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic led the Indian government to announce a nationwide lockdown on March 23, 2020. This study aimed to explore the impact of the pandemic on the accessibility of care for children with cancer and to view strategies adopted by hospitals for service delivery. METHODS: Weekly average of childhood cancer (≤18 years) patient registrations during pre-lockdown period (January 1 to March 23, 2020) were compared with post-lockdown period (March 24 to May 31, 2020). The effect on the scheduled treatment was investigated for post-lockdown period. A survey of health care providers was conducted to determine centers' adopted strategies. RESULTS: In 30 participating centers, 1146 patients with childhood cancer (797 pre-lockdown period and 349 post-lockdown period) were registered. The weekly average registration was 67.3 and 35.5 patients during pre-lockdown and post-lockdown respectively (decline of 47.9%). Although most centers experienced this decline, there were 4 that saw an increase in patient registrations. The distribution of patients registered post-lockdown was found significantly different by age (lesser older age, P = .010) and distance (lesser travel distance, P = .001). 36.1% of patients, who were scheduled for any of the treatment modalities (chemotherapy, surgery, radiotherapy, and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation) during the post-lockdown period, experienced delays. Centers adopted several strategies including modifications to treatment protocols, increased use of growth factors, and increased support from social organizations. CONCLUSIONS: This multicenter study from India suggests that the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown impacted 2 out of 3 children with cancer. The effect of this on survival is yet to be established.

Neutropenic diet(ND) has been hypothesized to decrease the rate of febrile neutropenia(FN) occurring post-chemotherapy for pediatric cancers. Despite widespread use, it has not shown to be of benefit by randomized controlled trials(RCT) in western countries. No RCT has been conducted in India/LMIC to evaluate its efficacy against the standard Indian diet. Forty-two(42) children, aged 3-14 y, with cancer, scheduled to receive strongly myelosuppressive chemotherapy were randomized to receive either neutropenic diet(n = 21) or standard Indian diet(n = 21) for one chemotherapeutic cycle. FN rate was recorded as the primary outcome while the focus of infection, antibiotic length, the requirement for hospital admission, adherence to diet were the secondary outcomes. The groups were similar in baseline characteristics. Twelve patients (57%) in the neutropenic diet and nine patients(43%) in the standard diet arm developed FN. Patients in ND-arm had significantly higher chance of getting neutropenic enterocolitis(NEC) (33.33% vs 4.76% p = 0.044). Mortality (14.29%vs 0%, p = 0.23) and requirement for admission (47.6%vs 19.05%, p = 0.06), was more in the ND-arm but statistically non-significant. There was no significant difference in antibiotic length. Adherence was similar in both groups (95% vs 98%). Neutropenic diet was not effective in reducing FN rate and was associated with higher rate of NEC when compared to the standard diet.

BACKGROUND: Data of neurocognitive deficits in survivors of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is scarce from low middle-income countries (LMICs), and is influenced by biological and cultural variations. The objective of this study was to assess the prevalence and spectrum of neurocognitive deficits in a cohort of survivors from India. PROCEDURE: Seventy survivors of childhood ALL were evaluated for neurocognitive deficits by the Indian adaptation of Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children - Fourth Edition (WISC-IVINDIA ). The prevalence of neurocognitive deficits was calculated based on the full-scale intelligence quotient (FSIQ), and scores in discrete domains like verbal comprehension, perceptual reasoning, working memory, and processing speed were calculated and compared to demographics, treatment, and sociocultural factors. RESULTS: The mean (SD) current age and time since diagnosis was 10.5 (±3.2) years and 5 (±2.8) years, respectively. The mean FSIQ was 86.1 ± 20.5, with significant neurocognitive deficit (FSIQ <90) being prevalent in 50% (95% CI: 38%-62%) of the cohort. The proportion of survivors with deficits in individual domains of verbal comprehension, perceptual reasoning, working memory, and processing speed were 49%, 50%, 47%, and 44%, respectively. The odds of having neurocognitive deficits were higher when a child belonged to lower socioeconomic strata (OR 5.7, p = .004), parents with lower education attainment (OR 4.3, p = .041), and whose birth order was higher (OR 20.1, p = .005). Age at diagnosis/assessment, chemotherapy received, or dose of radiotherapy did not have a direct impact on neurocognition. CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: Rates of neurocognitive deficits are higher in survivors in LMICs, with socioeconomic variables contributing more than the direct neurotoxic effects of treatment.

BACKGROUND: In this trial, we evaluated the safety and efficacy of olanzapine in children receiving highly emetogenic chemotherapy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this study, patients aged 3 to 18 years were randomly assigned to either the olanzapine group or the placebo group. All patients received intravenous ondansetron and dexamethasone 30 minutes before highly emetogenic chemotherapy, followed by oral ondansetron for 48 hours. Participants in the olanzapine group received olanzapine once daily on days 1 and 2, while those in the control group received a placebo in the same dosage and schedule. The primary objective was: (a) to compare the complete control rates of vomiting in the delayed phase and (b) to compare the complete control rates of vomiting in acute and overall phases. The secondary objective was to evaluate the safety of olanzapine and the need for rescue medications. RESULTS: A total of 128 patients were randomly assigned either to the olanzapine group (n=63) or the control group (n=65). Complete control of vomiting between olanzapine and placebo group was 73% versus 48% ( P =0.005) in the delayed phase, 60% versus 54% ( P =0.46) in the acute phase, and 48% versus 34% ( P =0.117) in the overall phase, respectively. Grades 1 and 2 sedation was greater in the olanzapine group (46% vs. 14%; P <0.001). A significantly higher proportion of patients in the placebo group required rescue medications for vomiting compared with in the olanzapine group ( P =0.025). CONCLUSIONS: Olanzapine significantly improved complete control of vomiting in the delayed phase. A considerably lesser proportion of patients in the olanzapine group needed rescue medications.

BACKGROUND: Neutropenic enterocolitis (NEC) is a dreaded complication of chemotherapy. There is scant literature regarding incidence, clinical features, and determinants. The understanding of gut dysbiosis in NEC and pediatric cancer is evolving. METHODS: Pediatric cancer patients with neutropenia and gastrointestinal symptoms were evaluated for NEC with contrast-enhanced computed tomography abdomen. Clinical, imaging, and laboratory features were analyzed. Fecal samples were analyzed for fecal calprotectin by sandwich enzyme-linked immunoassay and gut microbiota by conventional culture and compared with healthy controls and children without NEC. RESULTS: NEC was diagnosed in 44 children based on clinical and imaging features with incidence of 7.4% (4 had recurrent episodes). Common manifestations included fever (98%), pain abdomen (88%), and diarrhea (83%). Hypoalbuminemia was observed in 78% of patients. Large bowel involvement (94%) with diffuse bowel involvement (63%) and pancolitis (64%) were common. Fecal calprotectin was significantly elevated in NEC group than non-NEC group and healthy controls (median: 87, 53, and 42 µg/g, respectively). A higher degree of gut dysbiosis was observed in children with NEC with higher isolation of Bacteroides and infrequent isolation of Lactobacilli. Mortality rate of 23% was observed. Only the presence of free fluid predicted higher mortality. Though levels of fecal calprotectin and gut dysbiosis were higher in NEC, they did not increase mortality. Isolation of Bacteroides and absence of Lactobacilli predicted a longer duration of intravenous alimentation. CONCLUSIONS: NEC caused significant morbidity and mortality in pediatric cancer patients. Gut dysbiosis was significantly higher in NEC group suggesting a role in pathogenesis and influencing outcome. The median age of presentation for Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) is lower in developing countries with a higher proportion under 5 years of age possibly attributable to the high prevalence of Epstein-Barr virus-driven disease. It is unclear whether the clinical presentation and outcomes of this cohort are different with concern regarding late effects being most pronounced in this age group. We report the outcome of children under 5 years of age enrolled in the InPOG-HL-15-01, the first multicentric collaborative study for newly diagnosed children and adolescents with HL from India. Thirty-five (9%) of the study population was younger than 5 years with a striking male preponderance of 34:1. They were less likely to have bulky disease, mediastinal or splenic involvement. The outcomes appear to be at least as favorable as in the older patient group. Efforts need to be made to evolve treatment strategies that spare this very young cohort from potential late effects.

Measurable residual disease (MRD) is an important parameter to predict outcome in B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL). Two different approaches have been used for the assessment of MRD by multiparametric flow cytometry that include the "Leukemia Associated Aberrant Immunophenotype (LAIP)" and "Difference from Normal (DFN)" approach. In this retrospective study, we analyzed 539 samples obtained from 281 patients of which 258 were paired samples and the remaining 23 samples were from post-induction time point only, to explore the utility of baseline immunophenotype (IPT) for MRD assessment. Single-tube 10-color panel was used both at diagnosis and MRD time points. Out of 281 patients, 31.67% (n = 89) were positive and 68.32% (n = 192) were negative for MRD. Among 258 paired diagnostic and follow-up samples, baseline IPT was required in only 9.31% (24/258) cases which included cases with hematogone pattern and isolated dim to negative CD10 expression patterns. Comparison of baseline IPT with post-induction MRD positive samples showed a change in expression of at least one antigen in 94.04% cases. Although the immunophenotypic change in expression of various antigens is frequent in post-induction samples of B-ALL, it does not adversely impact the MRD assessment. In conclusion, the baseline IPT is required in less than 10% of B-ALL, specifically those with hematogone pattern and/or dim to negative expression of CD10. Hence, a combination of DFN and LAIP approach is recommended for reliable MRD assessment.

Ketamine is a dissociative anesthetic agent with excellent analgesic properties and a favorable safety profile. The feasibility and efficacy of various routes of administration have been established, including intravenous (IV), intramuscular (IM), oral, intranasal, rectal, and transdermal routes. The advent of newer anesthetic agents has led to a decline in the use of ketamine as an anesthetic, but its utility in short-term sedation and analgesia has expanded. Its value for chronic pain management in children with cancer is being increasingly recognized but requires more evidence. The use of topical ketamine is largely in investigational stages. Medical use of ketamine is, to a great extent, free from significant long-term neurological side effects. The objective of this review is to provide a brief account of the pharmacology of ketamine and primarily focus on the clinical applications of ketamine in pediatric oncology.

Information regarding the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in pediatric oncology is limited. We conducted a systematic review of the available published literature on children with cancer affected by COVID-19. The last date of the study search was October 20, 2020, and 33 studies comprising 226 children were included for the final analysis. Data were extracted in a predefined data collection form, and the variables were extracted and analyzed. Patients with hematological malignancies were more in number. Males and children on intensive treatment were more frequently affected. Fever was the commonest symptom. The disease was asymptomatic/mild in 48% and severe in 9.6%. Consolidation, peribronchial cuffing, and consolidation with ground glass opacities were the common imaging findings. Hydroxychloroquine was the most frequently used drug for COVID-19. About 10% of children required intensive care, and about 32% had oxygen requirements. The percentage of children who died due to COVID-19 was 4.9%. The severity, morbidity, and mortality of COVID-19 in pediatric oncology were more compared to the general pediatric population. This information can help in risk stratification for the management of COVID-19.

RESUMEN

Immune-mediated demyelination is a rare posttransplant complication. Here, we report an 8.5-year-old boy who developed left hemiparesis, 18 months post matched sibling donor hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) for relapsed acute myeloid leukemia and was diagnosed to have tumefactive demyelination. The diagnosis was established based on clinical and radiological features. The complete resolution of the lesions with steroids further established the immune-mediated pathophysiology.

BACKGROUND: Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) in childhood is an eminently curable disease. Excellent outcomes can be achieved even in resource-limited settings and increasingly, the focus is on limiting long-term toxicity. Contemporary treatment incorporates a risk-stratified, response-adapted approach using multiagent chemotherapy with or without low-dose radiotherapy (RT). Many developing countries continue to use ABVD (adriamycin, bleomycin, vinblastin, and dacarbazine)-based regimen owing to limited acute toxicity, cost, and ease of delivery. We report outcomes of children with early-stage HL using limited cycles of ABVD-based treatment in the first prospective multicentric collaborative study from India InPOG-HL-15-01. METHODS: Children <18 years with biopsy-proven HL were enrolled. Patients with stages I and IIA with or without bulky disease were classified as having early-stage disease. Patients were planned to receive four cycles of ABVD subject to satisfactory early response assessment (ERA) scheduled after two cycles of chemotherapy. RT was limited to patients with bulky disease or those with suboptimal ERA. RESULTS: Four hundred ten patients were enrolled over 30 months from 27 centers. One hundred thirty-four were classified as having early-stage disease. Fifty-three (40%) of these had bulky disease. One hundred ten (83%) of this cohort achieved complete or very good partial ERA. Fifty-four (40%) received RT. At a median of 52 months since diagnosis, 5-year event-free survival (EFS) and overall survival (OS) is 94% and 95.5%, respectively. Treatment-related mortality and abandonment were <1%. CONCLUSION: Limited cycles of ABVD with RT to selected patients is a very effective option for patients with early-stage disease in resource-limited settings.

Children with neuroblastoma (NB) and opsoclonus-myoclonus-ataxia syndrome (OMAS) have a favorable oncologic outcome and overall survival. In contrast, despite intensive multidrug immunomodulation, the neurologic outcome is complicated by the relapsing nature of the neurologic symptoms and long-term neurobehavioral sequelae. Being associated with low-risk NB, there exists an ambiguity in the current literature regarding the administration of chemotherapy in these children. We reviewed our archives for children with NB-OMAS over a 22-year (January 1996 to January 2018) period. Eighteen children (10 female) with a median age at diagnosis of 23 months had NB-OMAS and were included. They had stage 1 (9/18; 50%), 2 (1/18; 5.5%), 3 (7/18; 39%), and 4 (1/18; 5.5%) disease according to the International Neuroblastoma Staging System. Multimodality therapy included surgery (16/18; 89%), chemotherapy (11/18; 61%), and immunomodulatory therapy (10/18; 55%). Complete oncologic remission was achieved in all children. Relapse of OMAS and presence of neurologic sequelae were observed in 1 (5.5%) and 5 (28%) cases, respectively. Presence of neurologic sequelae was significantly associated with low-tumor stage (P=0.036) and treatment without chemotherapy (P=0.003). Chemotherapy administration was the only variable significantly predicting a favorable neurologic outcome (95% confidence interval: 0.26-1.40, P=0.01). To conclude, our study including a limited cohort of patients highlights a favorable neurologic outcome associated with chemotherapy administration in children with NB-OMAS. However, further studies with larger sample size need to be conducted before drawing any definite conclusions.
