RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Mico-volume semen freezing is essential and used popularly for fertility preservation of patients suffering cancer or undergoing male reproductive system related surgeries, and for other reasons that may risk fertility potential in ART cycles. However, clinicians and embryologists still face some unresolved technical and theoretical issues about the frozen-thawed efficiency. OBJECTIVE: To choose the appropriate freezing method for different volumes of normal semen samples. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We investigated the frozen-thawed outcomes of semen with different volumes (20 uL, 50 uL, 100 uL, 200 uL, 500 uL and 1 mL) using two freezing methods (FLNV, static liquid nitrogen vapour cooling followed by liquid nitrogen preservation; RFLN, direct rapid freezing in liquid nitrogen) and analyzed the vitality, progressive motility and DNA fragmentation index of thawed sperm. RESULTS: We found that semen freezing with volumes more than 100 uL had better outcomes than volumes less than or equal to 50 uL after thawing. FLNV presented a higher efficiency for cryopreservation of semen with volumes less than 50 uL. CONCLUSION: For smaller (micro) volumes, the FLNV technique is better than the RFLN method. https://doi.org/10.54680/fr24110110412.

RESUMEN

Objective: To explore the feasibility and safety of remote programming technology based on 5G cloud technology support platform in postoperative follow-up of cardiovascular implantable electronic devices(CIED). Methods: This study was a multicenter cross-sectional study. CIED patients from 12 hospitals lacking full-time follow-up specialists in Sichuan Province were enrolled from June 2021 to October 2021. All patients' devices received remote inspecting and programming by the follow-up specialist of the remote follow-up center of the Third People's Hospital of Chengdu through 5G cloud technology support platform. The baseline data, device alarm events, device reprogramming events, adverse reactions and satisfaction questionnaire survey results were collected. Results: A total of 195 CIED implantation patients were included, with an age of (72.5±11.3) years, including 103 males (52.6%). All patients completed remote inspecting and programming successfully, with a duration of (5.8±4.0) min. Ninety-one patients' CIED were reprogrammed, with a total of 104 parameter adjustments. No abnormal communication or adverse events occurred. The satisfaction questionnaire showed that 97.9%(191/195) of the patients trusted or relatively trusted remote follow-up and 86.7%(169/195) of the patients were willing to choose remote follow-up mode for device management. Conclusion: The remote programming based on 5G cloud technology support platform may be feasible and safe for postoperative follow-up of CIED patients.

RESUMEN

Objective: To study the anti-fibrotic effect of ghrelin on high-fat diet-induced non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) in mice. Methods: 24 male C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into a normal diet group, a normal diet + ghrelin group, a high-fat diet group, and the high-fat diet + ghrelin group. The HFD and HFD+ghrelin groups were fed high-fat diet for 16 weeks to induce non-alcoholic steatohepatitis. Among them, the NCD+ghrelin group and HFD+ghrelin group were continuously given ghrelin intervention (11nmol·kg(-1)·d(-1)) for 2 weeks after feeding for 14 weeks. 16 mice were euthanized on weekends. The plasma levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and hyaluronic acid (HA) were measured in mice. The content of hydroxyproline (Hyp) was determined in liver tissue. RT-qPCR was used to detect the mRNA expression levels of transforming growth factor ß1 (TGF-ß1) and collagen types I, III, and IV in liver tissue. A Western blot was used to detect the expression level of the α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) protein in liver tissue. HE staining was used to observe the morphological changes in liver tissue. VG staining was used to observe the fibrotic condition in liver tissue. Results: Compared with the NCD group, plasma ALT (266.80±146.80)U/L, HA (219.00±39.47) ng/ml levels, Hyp content (0.35±0.05)µg/mg prot (P < 0.05), mRNA expression levels of transforming growth factor ß1 (TGF-ß1) and collagen types I, III, IV (P < 0.05), and the expression level of α-SMA protein in the HFD group were significantly increased (P < 0.05), with congestion in the hepatic central lobular veins, hepatocytes swelling, and deposition of a large amount of collagen fibers in liver tissue. Compared with the HFD group, plasma ALT (57.17±20.88)U/L, HA (75.68±8.40)µg/mg levels, Hyp content (0.19±0.07)µg/mg prot, mRNA expression levels of transforming growth factor ß1 (TGF-ß1) and collagen types I, III, IV (P < 0.05), and the expression level of α-SMA protein in the HFD+ghrelin mice group was significantly reduced (P < 0.05), with only mild sinusoidal congestion in the liver tissue but significant improvement and reduction in liver injury and collagen fiber deposition. Conclusion: Ghrelin has a significant improvement effect on liver fibrosis in NASH mice.

RESUMEN

Semi-allogeneic embryos are not rejected by the maternal immune system due to maternal-fetal immune tolerance. Progesterone (P) receptor (PR)-expressing γδ T cells are present in healthy pregnant women. In the presence of P, these cells secrete an immunomodulatory protein called progesterone-induced blocking factor (PIBF), which can facilitate immune escape and is important in preventing embryonic rejection. This work investigated the correlations of the expression of γδ T cells and their co-stimulatory molecules T cell immunoglobulin and ITIM domain (TIGIT), programmed cell death 1 (PD-1), inducible co-stimulator (ICOS) and B and T lymphocyte attenuator (BTLA) with progesterone receptor (PR) and progesterone-induced blocking factor (PIBF) in peripheral blood and decidual tissue in women with unexplained recurrent spontaneous abortion (URSA) and normal pregnant (NP) women. We confirmed that γδ T cell proportions and PIBF expression in the peripheral blood and decidua of URSA women decreased significantly, while PR expression in decidua decreased. However, TIGIT, PD-1, ICOS and BTLA expression in γδ T cells in peripheral blood did not change, while TIGIT and PD-1 expression in γδ T cells in decidua increased significantly. Under the action of PHA-P (10 µg/ml), co-blocking of TIGIT (15 µg/ml) and PD-1 (10 µg/ml) antibodies further induced γδ T cell proliferation, but PIBF levels in the culture medium supernatant did not change. At 10-10 M P, γδ T cells proliferated significantly, and PIBF concentrations in the culture medium supernatant increased. γδ T cells co-cultured with P, TIGIT and PD-1 blocking antibodies showed the most significant proliferation, and PIBF concentrations in the culture medium supernatant were the highest. These results confirm that P is necessary for PIBF production. The TIGIT and PD-1 pathways participate in γδ T cell proliferation and activation and PIBF expression and play important roles in maintaining pregnancy.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: This review aimed to identify and describe evidence published in the past 3 years from trials of psychosocial support programs for children and adolescents affected by natural disasters. RECENT FINDINGS: Previous reviews have indicated these programs are beneficial overall. Positive impacts were documented in school-based programs conducted by trained teachers and paraprofessionals with stronger effects achieved by more qualified professionals. The review found supporting evidence for positive impacts of post-disaster psychosocial programs. However, the strength of evidence is limited due to heterogeneity in interventions and evaluations. The stepped care model was found to be useful in differentiating between programs and level of available evidence. Hobfoll's five essential elements of mass trauma intervention provide an additional means of guiding program content and assessments, particularly for universal programs. Identified gaps in evidence included groups likely to be at most risk: preschool children, ethnically diverse groups, those with disability, and social disadvantage. There were promising indications of program benefits for groups with repeated exposure to natural disasters.

RESUMEN

We demonstrate a high-sensitivity relative humidity (RH) sensor taking advantage of single-band narrow plasmon resonance of a single Au nanorod coupled to a whispering gallery cavity mode of a polyacrylamide microfiber. From the resonance peak shift, the sensor could achieve a sensitivity up to 0.51 nm/% RH with a cavity size of about 2 µm. By coupling multiple Au nanorods along the microfiber axis, we demonstrate a position-dependent microfiber optical humidity sensor with a 1.5-mm spatial resolution, which can be potentially reduced to micrometer level, paving a way toward high-resolution distributed microfiber optical sensors.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to examine the association amongst remote diffusion-weighted imaging lesions (R-DWILs), imaging markers of cerebral small vessel disease (cSVD) and total cSVD burden in patients with primary intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH). METHODS: In total, 344 consecutive primary ICH patients were enrolled prospectively. R-DWILs on magnetic resonance imaging as well as four imaging markers of cSVD, including cerebral microbleeds (CMBs), white matter hyperintensities (WMHs), lacunes and enlarged perivascular spaces, were rated with validated scales. The total cSVD score was calculated by adding up these four markers. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed. RESULTS: Remote DWI lesions were detected in 57 (16.6%) primary ICH patients. On multivariate logistic regression analysis, the presence of CMBs [odds ratio (OR) 5.26, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.72-16.12], of high-grade WMHs (OR 4.68, 95% CI 2.01-10.90), the presence of lacunes (OR 2.69, 95% CI 1.20-6.06), mixed CMBs (OR 2.93, 95% CI 1.35-6.36), mixed lacunes (OR 3.60, 95% CI 1.25-10.37), periventricular WMHs (OR 2.19, 95% CI 1.40-3.44), deep WMHs (OR 1.92, 95% CI 1.24-2.97) and total WMHs (OR 1.52, 95% CI 1.20-1.94) were associated with the presence of R-DWILs. A significant association was also found between high-grade total cSVD score and R-DWILs (OR 1.97, 95% CI 1.36-2.84). This association remained significant in patients stratified by an age of 60 years or more than 60 years. CONCLUSIONS: Remote DWI lesions are correlated with the severity of each imaging marker of cSVD and with the total burden of cSVD.

RESUMEN

Objective: To evaluate the feasibility of cell-free tumor DNA in pleural effusion supernatant for assessing the tumor mutational burden (TMB) of advanced lung cancers. Methods: From December 2016 to August 2018, 34 lung cancer patients (19 males and 15 females) with pleural effusion were enrolled at Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University. The median age of the patients was 65 (range, 34-85) years. Before systemic or local antitumor therapy, tumor specific mutations in tumor tissue, pleural effusion supernatant, pleural effusion sediment, and plasma samples from these patients were examined using targeted next-generation sequencing, and TMB levels were calculated respectively. Subgroup analysis was based on smoking history and driver mutation status. Statistical differences were determined using SPSS 16.0 software, and individual groups were compared using the one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and LSD-t test. Results: The median TMB level of pleural effusion supernatant was 6.23 mutations/Mb, similar to that of tumor tissue (6.23 vs 6.86 mutations/Mb, t=1.174, P=0.245), but significantly higher than that of pleural effusion sediment (2.49 mutations/Mb, t=3.044, P=0.003) and plasma (2.49 mutations/Mb, t=2.464, P=0.016). Compared with tumor tissue in TMB assessment, pleural effusion supernatant had a positive percentage agreement of 52% (9/17), and a negative percentage agreement of 65% (11/17). Subgroup analysis showed that the TMB level was higher in smokers (n=11) than that in non-smokers (n=23, 14.4 vs 5.4 mutations/Mb, t=3.238, P=0.003). Conclusion: For advanced lung cancer patients with pleural effusion, pleural effusion supernatant is a promising substitute to tumor tissue for TMB assessment, which is a potential biomarker for immunotherapy.

RESUMEN

AIMS: Tear cytokine levels indicate severity of ocular surface inflammation. Previous reports of cytokine concentrations were based on hospital-based studies or non-Chinese populations. We determine the range of tear concentration of cytokines in a representative adult Chinese population. METHODS: Thirty-nine participants were recruited from a population-based study of Chinese adults in Singapore, and standardized clinical ocular surface/eyelid features evaluated. Tear was extracted from Schirmer strips and analysed using a multiplex bead-based assay. RESULTS: Tear concentrations of 14 cytokines were investigated and quantifiable in each participant. Eight cytokines increased with increasing age, and 4 cytokines (IL-4, IL-12, IL-10 and IFN-γ) were increased in people with increased frequency of ocular discomfort. Three cytokines (MCP-1, IP-10 and IL-13) had increased levels in people with lower Schirmer tests, while 9 other cytokines were increased in patients with eyelid crusting (TNF-α, IL-1ß, IL-17α, IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-12, IL-10 and IFN-γ). Twelve percent of participants had eyelid crusting. CONCLUSION: Using a convenient collection technique that is a routine clinical test, 14 tear cytokines could be quantifiable even in Singapore Chinese adults without a dry eye diagnosis. Elevation of different tear cytokines may be linked to subclinical aqueous tear deficiency or eyelid inflammation even in asymptomatic people.

RESUMEN

The probability of suffering the mood disorder depression is up to 30% in women and 15% in men during their life span. Pharmacological options for depression are limited: conventional antidepressants have low efficacy and a delayed onset of action (several weeks). Here we investigate the antidepressant actions of inhibitors of monoacylglycerol lipase (MAGL), the major degradative enzyme of the endocannabinoid 2-arachidonoylglycerol. A low-dose of MAGL inhibitors produces antidepressant effects on acute stress-exposed mice, through glutamatergic synaptic long-term depression (LTD), without significant effects on chronic corticosterone-exposed mice. In contrast, a high-dose of MAGL inhibitors produces pro- or antidepressant effects on acute stress- or chronic corticosterone-exposed mice, respectively, through GABAergic synaptic disinhibition. In the hippocampus, in vivo inhibition of MAGL induces a CB1 cannabinoid receptor (CB1R)-dependent suppression of inhibitory GABAergic synapses and an in vivo LTD of excitatory glutamatergic synapses. LTD induction requires CB1R in astroglial cells (but not in GABAergic or glutamatergic neurons) and postsynaptic glutamate receptors. The conventional antidepressant fluoxetine produces rapid or delayed antidepressant effects in acute stress- or chronic corticosterone-exposed mice, respectively. We propose that depression-like behavior of animals in response to acute stress is the normal behavioral response, and thus, MAGL inhibitors, which produce antidepressant effects in chronic corticosterone-exposed animals through GABAergic synaptic disinhibition, represent a new class of rapidly-acting and long-lasting antidepressants.

RESUMEN

Thermo-acoustic (TA) transducers are generation of sound speakers without any mechanical vibration system which exhibit an extremely wide frequency response range. In this paper, acoustic field responses to broadband input signals applied to both free-standing and nano-thinfilm-substrate thermo-acoustic devices are developed theoretically by using the Fourier transformation. A series of signals, including single-frequency signal, square root signal, periodic triangle wave signal, and periodic rectangular pulse signal, are applied to these TA devices in simulations and the acoustic pressure responses are investigated. The reproducibility of input signals is predicted. The single frequency results show good agreement with previously published experimental results. Alternative methods for reproducing the original signals with small distortion and low power consumption are introduced. The excellent performance of the TA devices on broadband signal responses will provide a design approach for sound parametric array and underwater communication equipment.

RESUMEN

Nonlinearity must be considered with some porous granular media because of the large deformation under seismic waves. In this study, the propagation of nonlinear waves in porous media is studied based on the Biot theory and the governing equations are obtained by the Lagrangian formulation. Three new nonlinear parameters are introduced to consider the coupled nonlinearity between the solid and fluid components in porous media. It is shown that an additional nonlinear wave with a double frequency is generated by the coupling effect of linear fast and slow waves. When only a shear wave is applied at the source, no double-frequency nonlinear wave is predicted and three nonlinear longitudinal waves are generated. On the basis of the practical case studies, the effect of strong nonlinearity is computed under the influence of a one-dimensional single longitudinal wave source and a single shear wave source.

RESUMEN

We demonstrated a quasi-continuous wave (QCW) Nd:YAG planar waveguide laser amplifier with the single pulse output energy of 944 mJ. At the pulse repetition frequency (PRF) of 100 Hz, 1064 nm seed laser was coupled into the planar waveguide laser amplifier with the single pulse energy of 128 mJ and the pulse duration of 192 µs. With the total pump energy of 1582 mJ, the extracted energy of 816 mJ was obtained, leading to an optical to optical efficiency of 52% and an electrical to optical efficiency of 28%. To the best our knowledge, it is up to now the highest efficiency and output energy in Nd:YAG planar waveguide laser amplifier reported. At the maximum output, the beam quality factors M2 were measured to be 3.44 and 4.81 in the guided direction and unguided direction respectively, and the polarization degree was 98.6%. Higher average power could be obtained with the better performance of seeder oscillator.

RESUMEN

The purpose of this study was to modify the amount and composition of volatile components in bovine milk products, in an attempt to create a recombined skim milk product with full-fat milk flavor but with only 0.5% fat. The experimental plan included lipase-catalyzed hydrolysis and esterification reactions using Palatase 20000L (Novozymes, Bagsværd, Denmark). The results, measured by the methods of volatile compositional analysis and sensory evaluation, showed that the flavor profiles of the optimal recombined milk products were effectively modified in this way, possessing intensified characteristic volatile flavor components with rather low level of fat contents, and the sensory characters were quite realistic to natural whole milk flavor.

RESUMEN

We investigated the relationship between miR-146a and miR-196a2 genetic polymorphisms and development of ovarian cancer in a Chinese population. A total of 134 patients and 227 control subjects were involved in our study between January 2012 and October 2014 from China-Japan Union Hospital of Jilin University. Genotyping of miR-146a and miR-196a2 was accomplished by polymerase chain reaction coupled with restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis. Unconditional multiple-logistic regression analysis indicated that the GG genotype of miR-146a was associated with an increased risk of ovarian cancer when compared to the CC genotype, and the adjusted OR (95%CI) was 3.73 (1.79-7.80). Moreover, the CG+GG genotype of miR-146a was associated with an increased risk of ovarian cancer compared with the CC genotype (OR = 1.68, 95%CI = 1.06-2.66), and the GG genotype had a higher risk of ovarian cancer than the CC+CG genotype (OR = 3.02, 95%CI = 1.55-5.98). In conclusion, our study suggests that the miR-146a polymorphism is associated with increased risk of ovarian cancer and could be used as a biomarker for ovarian cancer susceptibility.

RESUMEN

We determined the prevalence and seasonality of infections by Fasciola of goats and bovine species (cattle and water buffalo) in Hubei and Anhui provinces of China. Faecal samples were collected at 2- to 3-month intervals from 200 goats in Hubei province and from 152 bovine species in Anhui province. All faecal samples were examined for the presence of parasites. We determined the nucleotide sequences of the first and second internal transcribed spacers (ITS-1 and ITS-2) of the nuclear ribosomal DNA (rDNA) of 39 Fasciola worms from Anhui province. The prevalence of Fasciola infection in goats ranged between 3.5 and 37.0%, with mean eggs per gram (EPG) ranging between 29.0 and 166.0. Prevalence and EPG exhibited downward trends over time with significant differences. The prevalence of Fasciola infection in cattle ranged between 13.3 and 46.2% (mean EPG, 36.4-100.0), and that of water buffalo ranged between 10.3 and 35.4% (mean EPG, 25.0-89.6), with a higher prevalence of infection and EPG from June to October compared with December to March. Analysis of ITS-1 and ITS-2 sequences revealed that F. hepatica and F. gigantica were present in all bovine species of Anhui province and that F. gigantica mainly infected water buffalo. This is the first demonstration of Fasciola infection in Hubei province and detection of F. hepatica and F. gigantica in Anhui province. The present study of Hubei province shows that mass treatment of livestock with closantel sodium injections in April and August/September controlled Fasciola infection effectively.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Metabolic syndrome has been associated with both gallstones and psoriasis, suggesting a potential biological linkage between gallstones and psoriasis. However, the association between gallstones and psoriasis has not yet been studied. OBJECTIVES: To investigate the association between gallstones and psoriasis. METHODS: This was a prospective cohort study [Nurses' Health Study II (1991-2005)]. Women aged 25-42 years who were free from psoriasis at baseline and who responded to a 2005 follow-up questionnaire regarding their diagnosis of psoriasis were included (n = 89,230). The relative risk (RR) of developing psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis (PsA), which were self-reported and validated by supplemental questionnaires, was measured. RESULTS: In this population, 2206 participants had gallstones confirmed by a history of cholecystectomy at baseline. A total of 642 individuals had a diagnosis of incident psoriasis, of whom 157 had concomitant PsA. After adjusting for known risk factors of psoriasis besides body mass index (BMI), a baseline history of cholecystectomy-confirmed gallstones was associated with increased risk of psoriasis [multivariate-adjusted RR 2·20, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1·56-3·10] and concomitant PsA (multivariate-adjusted RR 4·41, 95% CI 2·70-7·18). After additionally adjusting for BMI, the fully adjusted RRs associated with a history of cholecystectomy-confirmed gallstones were 1·70 (95% CI 1·20-2·41) for psoriasis and 2·96 (95% CI 1·80-4·89) for PsA. CONCLUSIONS: Personal history of gallstones was associated with an increased risk of psoriasis and PsA, independent of obesity, in a cohort of U.S. women.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Sevoflurane preconditioning has a neuroprotective effect, but the underlying mechanism is not fully understood. The aim of the present investigation was to evaluate whether sevoflurane-induced cerebral preconditioning involves inhibition of carboxy-terminal modulator protein (CTMP), an endogenous inhibitor of Akt, in a rat model of focal cerebral ischaemia. METHODS: Male Sprague-Dawley rats were exposed to 2.7% sevoflurane for 45 min. One hour later, rats were subjected to 60 min of focal cerebral ischaemia. The phosphoinositide 3-kinase inhibitors wortmannin and LY294002 were administered 10 min before preconditioning. Rats in the lentiviral transduction group received an intracerebroventricular injection of lentiviral vector Ubi-MCS-CTMP 3 days before ischaemia. Neurological deficits and infarct volumes were evaluated 24 h and 7 days after reperfusion. Phosphorylation of Akt, glycogen synthase kinase-3ß (GSK3ß), and expression of CTMP were determined at 1, 3, 12, and 24 h after reperfusion. Akt activity was measured at 3 h after reperfusion. RESULTS: Sevoflurane preconditioning improved neurological score and reduced infarct size at 24 h of reperfusion. Pretreatment with wortmannin or LY294002 attenuated these neuroprotective effects. Expression of CTMP correlated with reduced Akt activity after ischaemia, while sevoflurane preconditioning preserved Akt activity and increased phosphorylation of GSK3ß. CTMP over-expression diminished the beneficial effects of sevoflurane preconditioning. CONCLUSIONS: Activation of Akt signalling via inhibition of CTMP is involved in the mechanism of neuroprotection provided by sevoflurane preconditioning.

RESUMEN

The objective of the present study was to elucidate the relationship between amino acid consumption and necessary profiles of Streptococcus thermophilus T1C2 to guide the design of media for high-cell-density culture. The amino acid consumption and necessary patterns of S. thermophilus T1C2 were investigated in the complete chemically defined medium. For amino acid consumption profiles throughout the growth of S. thermophilus T1C2, the most abundantly consumed amino acids were Gln and Arg, which accounted for 19 and 20% of total amino acids consumed, respectively. Asparagine, Thr, Ser, Ala, Val, Met, Leu, and Lys, consumptions of which ranged from 3 to 10% of total amino acids consumed, were the second most intensively consumed amino acids. For necessary amino acid patterns, the amount of Cys, which counted for 11% of total amino acids needed, was significantly higher than the amounts required for other amino acids in growth of S. thermophilus T1C2. The necessary amounts of Asp, Asn, Glu, Gln, Arg, Ala, Met, and Tyr ranked second, ranging from 5 to 8% of total amino acids needed. Compared with necessary amounts, the consumption of Asn, Thr, Ser, Gln, Arg, Ala, Val, Leu, Lys, His, and Phe exceeded the necessary amounts for growth of S. thermophilus T1C2 remarkably. Consumption of Gly, Met, Ile, Trp, and Pro was slightly higher than the necessary amounts. Consumption of Asp, Glu, Tyr, and Cys was lower than the necessary amounts. The overall consumption of amino acids exceeded the required amount for growth of S. thermophilus T1C2 almost 2.43 times, which implied a significant nitrogen wasting.

RESUMEN

In this study, five common buckwheats and nine tartary buckwheats grown at different locations were analyzed for the contents of rutin, quercetin, and amino acids by high-performance liquid chromatography and spectrophotometry. The rutin content was higher than quercetin in buckwheat seeds. Rutin content was in the range from 0.05 (0.05 g per 100 g dry seeds) to 1.35% of buckwheat seeds. Quercetin content varied from 0.01 to 0.17% and in some common buckwheats it was even difficult to detect. Comparatively, tartary buckwheat seeds contained more rutin and quercetin than common buckwheat seeds. Meanwhile, the bran has higher rutin content than the farina in tartary buckwheat seeds, with a respective content of 0.45 to 1.19% and 0.14 to 0.67%. It was found that amino acid contents were around 1.79 to 12.65% (farina) and 5.74 to 7.89% (bran) in common buckwheats, and 1.73 to 5.63% (farina) and 2.64 to 16.78% (bran) in tartary buckwheat seeds. The highest total rutin content was found to be 1.35% in tartary buckwheat seeds from Sichuan, China. The highest total amounts of amino acid were detected to be 20.13% in tartary buckwheat seeds from Changzhi, Shanxi Province (China). Our results suggested that food products made of whole-buckwheat flour are healthier than those made of fine white flour.
