RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Reduced metabolic equivalents (METs) are an indicator of exercise intolerance, which predicts poor prognosis in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) patients. We sought to evaluate the changes in left ventricular (LV) mechanics and functional reserves, as well as their association with functional capacity in HCM patients. METHODS: Seventy HCM patients and thirty controls were included in this study. LV mechanics were evaluated at rest and during exercise by echocardiography and two-dimensional speckle-tracking imaging to obtain parameters of functional reserve, LV global longitudinal strain (LVGLS), strain rate (SR), and circumferential strain. RESULTS: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) patients had lower LVGLS, systolic SR, early and late diastolic SR at rest and during exercise, and reduced absolute and relative systolic and diastolic reserve compared to controls. LV circumferential strain was significantly higher at rest but lower during exercise in HCM patients. Exercise capacity was markedly reduced in HCM patients, and peak exercise LVGLS (LVGLS-exe) significantly correlated with exercise capacity. Multivariate regression analyses showed that LVGLS-exe, LV filling pressure during exercise (E/e'-exe), and LV mass index (LVMI) were independent predictors of exercise capacity. Moreover, LVGLS-exe displayed incremental predictive value over E/e'-exe and LVMI for exercise intolerance. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis showed LVGLS-exe had optimal accuracy for predicting exercise intolerance in HCM patients. CONCLUSIONS: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) patients have reduced LV mechanics at rest and during exercise and impaired mechanical reserve. LVGLS-exe is associated with exercise capacity and is an optimal predictive value for reduced exercise capacity in HCM patients.

RESUMEN

A new ursane-type triterpene, cymosic acid (1) together with two known compounds, 3ß,19α-dihydroxy-2-oxo-12-ursen-28-oic acid (2) and 2α,19α-dihydroxy-3-oxo-12-ursen-28-oic acid (3), were isolated from Rosa cymosa Tratt. The structure of compound 1 was elucidated by analyzing its ¹H and ¹³C NMR, ¹H-¹H COSY, HSQC, HMBC, NOESY, and HR-ESI-MS values. The three compounds were found to display moderate inhibitory activities against nitric oxide production in lipopolysaccharide-activated macrophage cell lines, RAW 264.7 cells.

RESUMEN

Currently, mushroom poisoning still poses a huge problem to humans' health and life globally. Poisoning incidents caused by Inosperma spp. were reported continuously in tropical China in recent years. In this study, a new poisonous Inosperma species, discovered from a poisoning incident, was described in tropical China based on morphological, molecular, and toxin detection evidence; detailed descriptions, photographs, and comparisons to closely related species were provided. For qualitative analysis, through targeted screening using ultra-high liquid chromatography triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS), the new species contains muscarine and no other toxins (two isoxazole derivatives, two tryptamine alkaloids, three amatoxins, and three phallotoxins). For quantitative analysis, muscarine contents in the pileus and the stipe were 2.08 ± 0.05 and 6.53 ± 1.88 g/kg, respectively.

RESUMEN

To investigate if deep-sedated colonoscopy affects adenoma detection in certain colorectal segment. Review of colonoscopy reports, electronic images and medical records of individuals underwent screening colonoscopy with or without propofol sedation between October 2020 and March 2021 from seven hospitals in China. A total of 4500 individuals were analyzed. There was no significant difference in ADR between deep-sedated colonoscopy and unsedated colonoscopy [45.4% vs. 46.3%, P > 0.05]. The APP of deep-sedated colonoscopy was lower than unsedated colonoscopy (1.76 ± 0.81 vs. 2.00 ± 1.30, P < 0.05). Both average number of adenomas and luminal distention score of splenic flexure and descending colon were lower in deep-sedated colonoscopy (P < 0.05), and average number of adenomas was positively correlated with an improved distension score in splenic flexure and descending colon (splenic flexure r = 0.031, P < 0.05; descending colon r = 0.312, P < 0.05). Linear regression model showed deep-sedated colonoscopy significantly affected luminal distention of splenic flexure and descending colon as well as average number of adenomas detected in splenic flexure (P < 0.05). Deep-sedated colonoscopy decreased adenoma detection in splenic flexure and the luminal distention of splenic flexure and descending colon compared with unsedated colonoscopy.

RESUMEN

The enhanced reactivity exhibited by six pseudo-alpha-bases, RC[triple bond]CZ(-) (R = H and Cl; Z = O, S, and Se) in gas-phase E2 reactions with ethyl chloride was examined at the G2(+) level. It is found that anomalous reactivity is observed despite the fact that these chalcogen bases do not possess adjacent lone-pair electrons. The influence of the halide leaving groups on the alpha-effect and the origin of the alpha-effect in the E2 reactions of ethyl halides are investigated and discussed.

RESUMEN

The detailed reaction pathways for the hydration of ketenimine by water and water clusters containing up to five explicit water molecules (CH(2) =C=NH + (n + 1)H(2)O --> CH(3)CONH(2) + nH(2)O, n = 0-4) in the gas phase have been investigated by the MP2 method in conjunction with the 6-31+G* and 6-311++G** basis sets, and the effects of bulk solvent are taken into account according to the conductor-like polarizable continuum model (COSMO). In the hybrid cluster/continuum model, apart from one directly attacking water molecule, four explicit water molecules participating in the water-assisted hydrolysis of ketenimine are divided into two groups, one involving in the proton relay and the other near the nonreactive nitrogen or carbon atom. Two possible reaction channels, water addition across the C=C bond or across the C horizontal lineN bond of ketenimine, are discussed. Our results indicate that the kinetically favorable mechanism involves an eight-membered ring transition state structure formed by a proton transfer chain of three water molecules. Meanwhile, two additional cooperative water molecules near the nonreactive region assist the hydration by engaging in hydrogen bonding to the substrate; such an interaction is found to be important in the hydration of ketenimine and other cumulenes. The lowest rate-determining activation barriers of C=C and C=N addition are 98.9 and 95.1 kJ/mol, respectively, suggesting that the two channels are competitive when more water molecules take part in the hydration. COSMO solution models do not modify the calculated energy barriers in a significant way.

RESUMEN

The water-catalyzed hydrolysis reaction of carbon disulfide (CS(2)) has been investigated at the levels of HF and MP2 with the basis set of 6-311++G(d,p) using the combined supramolecular/continuum models, in which up to six water molecules are involved in the hydrolysis and the effect of water bulk solvent is taken into account according to the polarizable continuum model (PCM). The activation Gibbs free energies in water solution, DeltaG(sol) (not equal) (298 K), for the rate-determining steps of one up to six water hydrolyses are 247.9, 184.2, 152.3, 141.8, 134.4, and 118.9 kJ/mol, respectively. The most favorable hydrolysis path of CS(2) involves a sort of eight-membered ring transition structure formed by six water molecules, among which three water molecules are not involved in the proton transfer, two near to the nonreactive sulfur atom, and one below the parent carbon disulfide. This suggests that the hydrolysis of CS(2) can be mediated with the water molecule(s) and be significantly facilitated by the cooperative effects of the water molecule(s) in the nonreactive region. The catalytic effects of water molecule(s) due to the alleviation of ring strain in the proton transfer process may result from the synergistic effects of rehybridization and charge reorganization from the prereaction complex to the rate-determining transition state structure induced by water molecule(s). PCM solvation models could significantly lower the rate-determining activation Gibbs free energies by 20-38 kJ/mol when two up to six explicit water molecules involved in the neutral hydrolysis of CS(2).

RESUMEN

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is more prevalent in females. Paradoxically, female patients have better right ventricular (RV) function and higher survival rates than males. However, the effects of 17ß-estradiol (E2) on RV function in PAH has not been studied. Twenty-four male rats were exposed to monocrotaline (MCT) to induce experimental PAH, while treated with E2 or vehicle respectively. Together with eight control rats, thirty-two rats were examined by echocardiography 4 weeks after drug administration. Echocardiographic measurement of RV function included: tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE), RV index of myocardial performance (RIMP), RV fractional area change (RVFAC) and tricuspid annular systolic velocity (s'). RV free wall longitudinal strain (RVLSFW) and RV longitudinal shortening fraction (RVLSF) were also used to quantify RV function. RV morphology was determined by echocardiographic and histological analysis. TAPSE, RVFAC and s' were reduced, and RIMP was elevated in the MCT-treated group and vehicle-treated group, when compared with control group (P < 0.01). TAPSE, RVFAC and s' in the E2 group were higher, while RIMP was lower than those in the MCT-treated group and vehicle-treated group (P < 0.01). Myocardial functional parameters (RVLSFW and RVLSF) were also higher in the E2 group. Enhanced serum E2 levels were closely correlated with the improvement in RV functional parameters and enhancement of serum BNP levels (P < 0.01 for all groups). RV function decreased significantly in male rats with MCT-induced PAH, while E2 exhibited a protective effect on RV function, suggesting that E2 is a critical modulator of sex differences in PAH.

RESUMEN

The current study aimed to explore the effect of homocysteine (Hcy) on the viability and migration ability of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs), as well as to examine the underlying mechanism. The association between the expression level of Hcy and lower extremity deep vein thrombosis (DVT) was detected in clinical samples collected from patients. In addition, the effect of Hcy on the viability and migration ability of HUVECs was detected by cell counting kit-8 and Transwell assays, respectively, while vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression was measured in order to verify the effect of Hcy on VEGF. The results indicated that the serum Hcy levels in DVT patients were significantly increased. In vitro experiments also confirmed that Hcy was able to significantly inhibit the viability and migration ability of HUVECs, and downregulate the expression of VEGF in these cells. Furthermore, the inhibitory effect of Hcy on HUVEC viability and migration ability was achieved by downregulating the expression of VEGF using small interfering RNA transfection. In conclusion, Hcy inhibited the viability and migration ability of HUVECs by downregulating the expression of VEGF. This may underlie the high incidence of DVT in patients with hyperhomocysteinemia.

RESUMEN

Background Impaired right ventricular ( RV ) function indicates RV involvement in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy ( HCM ). We aimed to assess RV function at rest and during exercise in HCM patients and to examine the association between impaired RV mechanics and exercise capacity. Methods and Results A total of 76 HCM patients (48 without and 28 with RV hypertrophy) and 30 age- and sex-matched controls were prospectively recruited. RV function was evaluated at rest and during semisupine bicycle exercise by conventional echocardiography and 2-dimensional speckle-tracking imaging. Exercise capacity was measured by metabolic equivalents. RV functional reserve was calculated as the difference of functional parameters between peak exercise and rest. Compared with controls, HCM patients had significantly higher RV free wall thickness, lower RV global longitudinal strain and RV free wall longitudinal strain at rest and during exercise, and reduced RV systolic functional reserve. Compared with those with HCM without RV hypertrophy, patients with HCM with RV hypertrophy had lower metabolic equivalents. Among HCM patients, an effective correlation was seen between exercise capacity and peak exercise RV global longitudinal strain and peak exercise RV free wall longitudinal strain. A binary logistic regression model revealed several independent predictors of exercise intolerance in HCM patients, but receiver operating characteristic curve analysis indicated exercise RV global longitudinal strain had the highest area under the curve for the prediction of exercise intolerance in HCM patients. Conclusions HCM patients have RV dysfunction and reduced contractile reserve. Exercise RV global longitudinal strain correlates with exercise capacity and can independently predict exercise intolerance. In addition, patients with HCM with RV hypertrophy exhibit more reduced exercise capacity, suggesting more severe disease and poorer prognosis.

RESUMEN

The present study investigated the changes of biventricular mechanics at rest and during exercise and examined the association between exercise capacity and biventricular mechanics and functional reserve in nonobstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (NHCM) patients. A total of 50 NHCM patients and 25 controls were consecutively recruited for this study. Using echocardiography and two-dimensional speckle-tracking imaging, an experienced echocardiographer determined the following indices: RV free wall longitudinal strain (RVFWLS), LV global longitudinal strain (LVGLS), strain rate (SR), and functional reserve of strain values. We also investigated the relationships between biventricular mechanics and exercise capacity using metabolic equivalents (METs). NHCM patients had lower RVFWLS, LVGLS, systolic SR, early diastolic SR, and systolic and diastolic reserve during exercise compared to controls. An association of biventricular mechanics (LVGLS, RVFWLS) with exercise capacity at rest and during exercise was established. Multivariable logistic regression revealed that RVFWLS and LVE/e' during exercise (RVFWLS-exe, E/e'-exe) were independent predictors of exercise intolerance. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis indicated that LVE/e'-exe had a higher area under the curve for predicting exercise intolerance in NHCM patients. In hierarchical analysis, RVFWLS-exe provided an incremental predictive value of exercise intolerance over LVGLS during exercise (LVGLS-exe) and LVE/e'-exe. LVE/e'-exe also changed incrementally compared to LVGLS-exe and RVFWLS-exe. NHCM patients have decreased biventricular mechanics at rest and during exercise and impaired biventricular functional reserve, and biventricular mechanics are associated with functional capacity. We propose that simultaneous evaluation of biventricular function should provide incremental predictive value for exercise intolerance.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To investigate and compare the biological characteristics and sensitivity to chemotherapy and radiotherapy of intrahepatic and extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma cells in vitro. METHODS: The intrahepatic and extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma cell lines were established, and cells with steady passage were chosen to study the biological characteristics including morphology, growth dynamics, chromosome, and levels of cancer antigen (CA) 125, CA19-9, alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), and carcino-embryonic antigen (CEA). Meanwhile, MTT assay was used to determine the sensitivity of both kinds of cells to 6 chemotherapeutic drugs, including cisplatin, paclitaxel, harringtonine, 5-fluorouracil, vincristine, and aclacimomycin, and the inhibitory rate of cells under the irradiation of 10 Gy ray was also measured. RESULTS: The intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma cells were mostly fusiform in shape, and extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma cells were mostly round or polygon in shape. Their doubling time was 26. 3 hours and 23. 1 hours, respectively. Their average number of chromosomes was 59 (range, 38-84) and 67 (range, 49-103), respectively. The chromosome karyotypes of most intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma cells were hyperdiploid and hypotriploid, while hypertriploid was predominant in extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma cells. The level of CA 125 in supernatant of extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma cells increased obviously, while levels of other determined tumor markers in both kinds of cells were all within normal range. The intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma cells were low sensitive to cisplatin and paclitaxel, but not sensitive to the other 4 chemotherapeutic drugs. The extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma cells were high sensitive to cisplatin, but not sensitive to the other 5 drugs. Both kinds of cells had poor sensitivity to radiotherapy. CONCLUSIONS: Intrahepatic and extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma cells show differences in shape, doubling time, chromosome karyotype, tumor marker level, and chemosensitivity, whereas they both have poor radiosensitivity. Though they are similar in histopathology, they have different growth characteristics and have discrepancy in treatment and prognosis.

RESUMEN

We report a low current collapse GaN-based high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) with an excellent thermal stability at 150 °C. The AlN was grown by N2-based plasma enhanced atomic layer deposition (PEALD) and shown a refractive index of 1.94 at 633 nm of wavelength. Prior to deposit AlN on III-nitrides, the H2/NH3 plasma pre-treatment led to remove the native gallium oxide. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) spectroscopy confirmed that the native oxide can be effectively decomposed by hydrogen plasma. Following the in situ ALD-AlN passivation, the surface traps can be eliminated and corresponding to a 22.1% of current collapse with quiescent drain bias (V DSQ) at 40 V. Furthermore, the high temperature measurement exhibited a shift-free threshold voltage (V th), corresponding to a 40.2% of current collapse at 150 °C. The thermal stable HEMT enabled a breakdown voltage (BV) to 687 V at high temperature, promising a good thermal reliability under high power operation.

RESUMEN

Baicalin is one of the active ingredients in the skullcap, with a variety of pharmacological effects, such as blood pressure reduction, sedation, liver-protection, gallbladder-protection, anti-bacteria, anti-inflammation, etc. The aim of this study was to investigate the potential cardioprotective effects of baicalin ameliorates isoproterenol-induced acute myocardial infarction (AMI) through inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), inflammation, oxidative stress and P38MAPK passageway in rat. Rat model of AMI was induced by isoproterenol (100 mg/kg) and then treated baicalin (various does of baicalin: 1 mg/kg, 10 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg, respectively) for 24 h. Infarct size, the heart weight to body weight ratio and creatine kinase (CK), the MB isoenzyme of creatine kinase (CK-MB), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and cardiac troponin T (cTnT) of rats with AMI induced by isoproterenol were used to evaluate curative effect of baicalin on AMI. Meanwhile, iNOS and phosphorylation-p38 MAPK (p-p38) protein expressions, inflammatory factor and oxidative stress were inspected using western blot and commercial kits, respectively. In the present study, pre-treatment with baicalin (10 or 100 mg/kg) significantly ameliorated infarct size, the heart weight to body weight ratio and CK, CK-MB, LDH and cTnT levels in rats with AMI induced by isoproterenol. iNOS protein expression, the serum TNF-α, IL-6, MDA and SOD levels and p-38 protein expressions were significantly suppressed by treatment with baicalin (10 or 100 mg/kg). These results suggest that acute treatment with baicalin ameliorates AMI, iNOS, inflammation, oxidative stress and P38MAPK pathway in rat with AMI induced by isoproterenol.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: A diverse range of cytogenetic alterations of autosomal chromosomes has been reported to date. However, few studies have addressed the abnormalities of X chromosome in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) except sporadic reports on the deletion of band F1 in X chromosome, and the clonal analysis of methylation pattern of the X chromosome-linked human androgen receptor gene. Identification of specific X chromosome alterations during the course of neoplastic development would be essential to defining the genetic basis of HCC. Therefore, we studied the regularity of aberration of X chromosome in liver cancer. METHODS: Hepatocarcinoma cellular lines and tumor tissues were detected respectively through DNA probes of X chromosome after fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). RESULTS: Increased copies of X chromosome were observed in all samples, and four signals of hybridization were of the major type. CONCLUSIONS: Increased copy number of X chromosome frequently occur in liver cancer. The relationship between copy number of X chromosome and liver cancer genesis needs further investigation. This study is the first of its kind determining the copy number of X chromosome in liver cancer by using FISH.

RESUMEN

AIM: In an effort to identify novel, small molecules which can affect the proliferation of lung cancer cells, F-01A, a polyether antibiotic isolated from the fermentation broth of Streptomyces was tested. METHOD: F-01A was tested for its antitumor properties on the lung cancer cell line SPC-A-1, at six doses (0.1, 0.5, 1, 2.5, and 5 µmol·L(-1)), using various cellular assays. Cell viability was measured by the MTT assay, Hochest 33258 was used to study nuclear morphology; DNA ladder and the loss of mitochondrial membrane potential were also evaluated. RESULTS: F-01A induces apoptosis against SPC-A-1 cells in a dose-dependent manner. The IC50 is 0.65 µmol·L(-1), and the inhibition at 5 µmol·L(-1) is 87.89%. Further, JC-1 staining indicates F-01A could induce the loss of mitochondrial membrane potential, and the DNA fragment is evident. CONCLUSION: Mechanistic analysis showed that F-01A induced apoptosis of cancer cells probably in the mitochondrial pathway. The antitumor actions of F-01A involve activation of the apoptotic pathway against SPC-A-1 cells, and it may be valuable for further drug development.

RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: Polymorphisms in the prostate stem cell antigen (PSCA) gene have been hypothesized to increase the genetic susceptibility to cancers. The common sequence variation in PSCA rs2294008 (C>T) has been implicated in cancer risk. However, results of the relevant published studies were somewhat underpowered and controversial in general. MATERIAL AND METHODS: To evaluate the role of PSCA rs2294008 (C>T) genotype in global cancer, we performed a pooled analysis of all the available published studies involving 22,817 cancer patients and 27,753 control subjects. RESULTS: The results showed evidence that PSCA rs2294008 (C>T) was associated with increased total cancer risk in the overall comparisons. Stratified analysis by cancer type indicated that PSCA rs2294008 T is associated with increased risk of gastric cancer (OR = 1.24, 95% CI = 1.09-1.42, p heterogeneity < 0.001, I (2) = 88.0%) and bladder cancer (OR = 1.07, 95% CI = 1.04-1.11, p heterogeneity = 0.108, I (2) = 55.0%) by allelic contrast. Furthermore, in stratified analysis by histological types of gastric cancer, this PSCA variant showed significant associations with diffuse type (OR = 1.81, 95% CI = 1.16-2.81, p heterogeneity < 0.001, I (2) = 88.9%) but not intestinal type (OR = 1.29, 95% CI = 0.95-1.74, p heterogeneity < 0.001, I (2) = 85.2%) in a dominant genetic model. Similar results were found in Asian and European descendents and population-based studies. CONCLUSIONS: In all, our meta-analysis suggests that PSCA rs2294008 (C>T) may play allele-specific roles in cancer development. Further prospective studies with larger numbers of participants worldwide should be performed in different kinds of cancer and other descendents in more detail.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of mifepristone, a progesterone receptor (PR) antagonist, through the proliferation of human cholangiocarcinoma cell line FRH-0201 in vitro and the possible mechanisms involved. METHODS: A two-step addition of poly-HRP anti-mouse immunoglobulin G detection system was used to detect the expression of PR in FRH-0201 cells. After treatments with various concentrations of mifepristone (10, 20, 40, 80, 160, and 320 µmol/L) at various time intervals (24, 48, and 72 hours), the rate of cell inhibition, the rate of cell apoptosis, and the expression of bax/bcl-2/Fas were analyzed with tetrazolium blue (MTT) assay, flow cytometry, reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and Western blotting. The effect of mifepristone and mifepristone combined with interferon (IFN)-γ-inducing apoptosis on the cells was observed. RESULTS: Mifepristone remarkably inhibited the proliferation of FRH-0201 cells, which was revealed by MTT assay in a dose- and time-dependent manner. The inhibitory rate gradually increased following the increase of the dosage of mifepristone from a low dosage (10 µmol/L) to a high dosage (320 µmol/L) at different time intervals. Flow cytometry analysis showed mifepristone increased the rate of the FRH-0201 cell-line apoptosis. Notably, the rate of apoptosis increased markedly when the cells were pretreated with IFN-γ and then treated with mifepristone. In addition, mifepristone obviously upregulated bax and Fas expression and downregulated bcl-2 expression. CONCLUSION: Mifepristone effectively inhibited the growth of PR-positive human cholangiocarcinoma cell line FRH-0201 in vitro through multiple mechanisms. Mifepristone combined with IFN-γ might therefore induce the apoptosis of the cell line, which is possibly a beneficial clinical scheme for patients suffering from cholangiocarcinoma.

RESUMEN

The detailed reaction mechanism for the water-assisted hydrolysis of isocyanic acid, HNCO + (n + 1) H(2)O → CO(2) + NH(3) + nH(2)O (n = 0-6), taking place in the gas phase, has been investigated. All structures were optimized and characterized at the MP2/6-31 + G level of theory, and then re-optimized at MP2/6-311++G. The seven explicit water molecules participating in the hydrolysis can be divided into two groups, one directly involved in the proton relay, and the other located in the vicinity of the substrate playing the cooperative role by engaging in hydrogen-bonding to HN = C = O. Two possible reaction pathways, the addition of water molecule across the C = N bond or across the C = O bond, are discussed, and the former is proved to be more favorable energetically. Our calculations suggest that, in the most kinetically favorable pathway for the titled hydrolysis, three water molecules are directly participating in the hydrogen transfer via an eight-membered cyclic transition state, while the other four water molecules catalyze the hydrolysis of HN = C = O by forming three eight-membered cooperative loops near the substrate. This strain-free hydrogen-bond network leads to the best estimated rate-determining activation energy of 24.9 kJ mol(-1) at 600 K, in excellent agreement with the gas-phase kinetic experimental result, 25.8 kJ mol(-1).

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To compare the clinical effect of 3S-type and P-loops digestive reconstruction after total gastrectomy for gastric cancer. METHODS: From February 2005 to February 2009, 85 cases underwent total gastrectomy in The First Affiliated Hospital of Henan University of Science and Technology. Two types of digestive reconstruction were performed with 3S-type jejunum(n=46) and P-loops Roux-en-Y esophagojejunostomy(n=39). The postoperative complications, nutrition index and the quality of life at half a year after surgery were comparatively analyzed. RESULTS: Two types of digestive reconstruction had no statistical differences in operative time, postoperative complications and mortality(P>0.05). Compared with P-loops Roux-en-Y esophagojejunostomy at 6 months after operation, 3S-type jejunum had a lower incidence in dumping syndrome[4.3% (2/46) vs. 10.3% (4/39), P<0.05] and reflux esophagitis [10.8% (5/46) vs. 33.3% (13/39), P<0.05]. 3S-type jejunum was superior to P-loops Roux-en-Y esophagojejunostomy in serum total protein(55.7±3.1 g/L vs 50.3±5.1 g/L, P<0.05), albumin(36.5±3.6 g/L vs. 31.6±4.4 g/L, P<0.05), hemoglobin(120.2±13.4 g/L vs. 110.4±23.0 g/L, P<0.05), and nutritional assessment index(73.2±4.8 vs. 56.0±6.3, P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Reconstruction of stomach with 3S-type jejunum may be an effective way to prevent reflux esophagitis and dumping syndrome, and to improve the nutritional status and the quality of life.
