RESUMEN

In individuals with underlying chronic liver disease (CLD), hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection is a potential trigger of acute-on-chronic liver failure. In this systematic review, seven electronic databases were searched. Pooled incidence rates with 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were calculated by the Freeman-Tukey double arcsine transformation method. The association between death or liver failure and HEV superinfection in CLD patients was estimated by the odds ratios (OR) with a 95% CI. A total of 18 studies from 5 countries were eligible for systematic review. The prevalence of acute HEV infection in hospitalized CLD patients with clinical manifestations of hepatitis was 13.6%, which was significantly higher than that in CLD patients from the community (pooled prevalence 1.1%). The overall rates of liver failure and mortality in CLD patients with HEV superinfection were 35.8% (95% CI: 26.7%-45.6%) and 14.3% (95% CI: 10.6%-18.5%), respectively, with the rates in cirrhotic patients being approximately 2-fold and 4-fold higher than those in noncirrhotic patients, respectively. The risks of liver failure (OR = 5.5, 95% CI: 1.5-20.1) and mortality (OR = 5.0, 95% CI: 1.9-13.3) were significantly higher in CLD patients with HEV superinfection than in those without HEV superinfection. HEV testing in hospitalized CLD patients is necessary due to the high prevalence of HEV infection observed in hospitalized CLD patients. HEV superinfection could accelerate disease progression in patients with underlying CLD and increase mortality in these patients. HEV vaccination is appropriate for patients with pre-existing CLD.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Long-term antiviral treatments are associated with a significantly lower hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) incidence in chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients by reducing HBV DNA concentrations. However, it is still controversial whether antiviral strategies affect HCC development in antiviral treatment-naïve CHB patients. This study aimed to estimate the incidence of HCC in antiviral treatment-naïve CHB patients who were treated with Entecavir (ETV) and Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate (TDF) and compare the efficacy of two treatment regimens in HCC reduction. METHODS: The PubMed, Embase, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Wanfang databases were systematically searched until June 24, 2021. The pooled incidence and 95% confidence interval of HCC were calculated by the Freeman-Tukey double arcsine transformation method. The efficacies of ETV and TDF treatments in HCC reduction were compared through a network meta-analysis. RESULTS: A total of 27 studies were identified as eligible for this systematic review. The incidence densities in the ETV and TDF treatment groups were 2.78 (95% CI: 2.21-3.40) and 2.59 (95% CI: 1.51-3.96) per 100 persons-year among patients with preexisting cirrhosis and 0.49 (95% CI: 0.32-0.68) and 0.30 (95% CI: 0.06-0.70) per 100 persons-year among patients without preexisting cirrhosis. As the proportion of CHB patients with preexisting cirrhosis increased, the incidence density of HCC also increased gradually. Compared with other Nucleos(t)ide analogs (NAs) treatments, ETV and TDF treatments significantly lowered the risk of HCC, with hazard ratios (HRs) of 0.60 (95% CI: 0.40-0.90) and 0.56 (95% CI: 0.35-0.89), respectively. However, there was no difference in the incidence density of HCC between ETV and TDF treatments (HR = 0.92, 95% CI: 0.71-1.20) regardless of preexisting cirrhosis. CONCLUSION: ETV and TDF treatments were associated with significantly lower risks of HCC than other NAs treatments. However, no difference was observed between ETV and TDF treatments in the risk of HCC development regardless of preexisting cirrhosis among treatment-naïve CHB patients.

RESUMEN

To find potential alkaline-earth metal-doped aromatic superconductors and clarify the origin of superconductivity in metal-doped phenanthrene (PHN) systems, we have systematically investigated the crystal and electronic structures of bivalent metal (Mg, Ca, Sr and Ba)-doped PHNs by first-principles calculations. The results show that only Ba1.5PHN can satisfy the conditions of both thermodynamic stability and metallization. We predicted that Ba1.5PHN is superconducting with the critical temperature of 5.3 K. Based on the metal atomic radius and electronegativity and combined with monovalent metal- and trivalent metal-doped PHNs, the relations among charge transfer, metallization, and superconductivity were analyzed. The results indicate that the electronegativity of the metal element rather than the atomic radius is predominant in the charge transfer and superconductivity of metal-doped phenanthrene.

RESUMEN

As one of the simplest hydrocarbons, methane (CH4) has great potential in the research of superconductors. However, the metallization of CH4 has been an issue for a long time. Here, we report the structure, metallization, and superconductivity of CH4 doped by Be at low pressures, based on first-principles calculations. The result shows that the thermodynamically stable BeCH4 with P1[combining macron] space-group can transform into a metal at ambient pressure. This ternary hydride BeCH4 exhibits a superconductivity of ∼6 K below 25.6 GPa. Interestingly, the superconducting critical temperature of BeCH4 can reach ∼30 K at 80 GPa in the form of an a-P1 space-group phase. The charge transfer from Be to CH4 molecules plays an important role in the superconductivity. Our results present a novel way to realize the metallization of methane at relative pressures and indicate that the doped methane is a potential candidate for seeking high temperature and low pressure superconductivity.

RESUMEN

Phenyl molecules are proposed as potential high-temperature superconductors due to exhibiting interesting properties. Here, we report the discovery of superconductivity with the critical temperature (Tc) of ∼7.2 Kelvin in potassium (K)-doped biphenyl (C12H10). The dc magnetic susceptibility measurements provide solid evidence for the presence of the Meissner effect in KxC12H10. The Raman spectra detected bipolaronic characteristics in this superconducting state, which are proposed to account for the electron pairing. Theoretical simulations provided the information of the crystal structure of KxC12H10. Combining XRD data with formation energy, we suggest that the superconducting phase corresponds to K2C12H10 or with a small charge fluctuation in a layered structure. The discovery of superconductivity in K-doped biphenyl vastly expands the potential applications in the superconducting field.

RESUMEN

A series of novel ß-carboline 1,3,4-oxadiazole derivatives were designed and synthesized, and the in vitro cytotoxic activity against Sf9 cells and growth inhibitory activity against Spodoptera litura were evaluated. Bioassay results showed that most of these compounds exhibited excellent in vitro cytotoxic activity. Especially, compound 37 displayed the best efficacy in vitro (IC50 = 3.93 µM), and was five-fold more potent than camptothecin (CPT) (IC50 = 18.95 µM). Moreover, compounds 5 and 37 could induce cell apoptosis and cell cycle arrest and stimulate Sf-caspase-1 activation in Sf9 cells. In vivo bioassay also demonstrated that compounds 5 and 37 could significantly inhibit larvae growth of S. litura with decreasing the weight of larvae and pupae. Based on these bioassay results, compounds 5 and 37 emerged as lead compounds for the development of potential insect growth inhibitions.

RESUMEN

The marine fungus Neosartorya pseudofischeri was isolated from Acanthaster planci from the South China Sea. In a preliminary bioactivity screening, the crude methanol extract of the fungal mycelia showed significant inhibitory activity against the Sf9 cell line from the fall armyworm Spodoptera frugiperda. Five novel compounds, including 5-olefin phenylpyropene A (1), 13-dehydroxylpyripyropene A (4), deacetylsesquiterpene (7), 5-formyl-6-hydroxy-8-isopropyl-2- naphthoic acid (9) and 6,8-dihydroxy-3-((1E,3E)-penta-1,3-dien-1-yl)isochroman-1-one (10), together with eleven known compounds, phenylpyropene A (2) and C (3), pyripyropene A (5), 7-deacetylpyripyropene A (6), (1S,2R,4aR,5R,8R,8aR)-1,8a-dihydroxy-2-acetoxy-3,8-dimethyl-5- (prop-1-en-2-yl)-1,2,4a, 5,6,7,8,8a-octahydronaphthalene (8), isochaetominine C (11), trichodermamide A (12), indolyl-3-acetic acid methyl ester (13), 1-acetyl-ß-carboline (14), 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-6-hydroxyl-2-methyl-l,3,4-trioxopyrazino[l,2-a]-indole (15) and fumiquinazoline F (16), were obtained. The structures of these compounds were determined mainly by MS and NMR data. The absolute configuration of 9 was assigned by the single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. Compounds 1-11 and 15 showed significant cytotoxicity against the Sf9 cells from S. frugiperda.

RESUMEN

Vibrational properties of isoviolanthrone are investigated by Raman scattering at pressures up to 30.5 GPa and room temperature. A complete characterization of phonon spectra under pressure is given for this material. The onset of a phase transition at 11.0 GPa and the formation of a new phase above 13.8 GPa are identified from both the frequency shifts and the changes in the full width half maxima of the intra- and internal modes. The transition is proposed to result from the changes of intra- and intermolecular bonding. The tendencies of the intensity ratios with pressure are in good agreement with the pressure dependence of the resistance at room temperature, indicating that the phase transition may be an electronic origin. The absence of the changes in the lattice modes indicates that the observed phase transition is probably a result of the structural distortions or reorganizations. The reversible character of the transition upon compression and decompression is determined in the entire pressure region studied.

RESUMEN

Raman-scattering measurements were performed on K(x)phenanthrene (0 ⩽ x ⩽ 6.0) at room temperature. Three phases (x = 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0) are identified based on the obtained Raman spectra. Only the K3phenanthrene phase is found to exhibit the superconducting transition at 5 K. The C-C stretching modes are observed to broaden and become disordered in K(x)phenanthrene with x = 2.0, 2.5, 6.0, indicating some molecular disorder in the metal intercalation process. This disorder is expected to influence the nonmetallic nature of these materials. The absence of metallic character in these nonsuperconducting phases is found from the calculated electronic structures based on the local density approximation.

RESUMEN

Further increasing the critical temperature and/or decreasing the stabilized pressure are the general hopes for the hydride superconductors. Inspired by the low stabilized pressure associated with Ce 4f electrons in superconducting cerium superhydride and the high critical temperature in yttrium superhydride, we carry out seven independent runs to synthesize yttrium-cerium alloy hydrides. The synthetic process is examined by the Raman scattering and X-ray diffraction measurements. The superconductivity is obtained from the observed zero-resistance state with the detected onset critical temperatures in the range of 97-141 K. The upper critical field towards 0 K at pressure of 124 GPa is determined to be between 56 and 78 T by extrapolation of the results of the electrical transport measurements at applied magnetic fields. The analysis of the structural data and theoretical calculations suggest that the phase of Y0.5Ce0.5H9 in hexagonal structure with the space group of P63/mmc is stable in the studied pressure range. These results indicate that alloying superhydrides indeed can maintain relatively high critical temperature at relatively modest pressures accessible by laboratory conditions.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The Oka varicella vaccine strain remains neurovirulent and can establish lifelong latent infection, raising safety concerns about vaccine-related herpes zoster. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the immunogenicity and safety of a skin-attenuated and neuro-attenuated varicella vaccine candidate (v7D vaccine). METHODS: We did this randomised, double-blind, controlled, phase 2a clinical trial in Jiangsu, China. Healthy children aged 3-12 years with no history of varicella infection or vaccination were enrolled and randomly assigned (1:1:1:1) to receive a single subcutaneous injection of the v7D vaccine at 3·3 log10 plaque forming units (PFU; low-dose v7D group), 3·9 log10 PFU (medium-dose v7D group), and 4·2 log10 PFU (high-dose v7D group), or the positive control varicella vaccine (vOka vaccine group). All the participants, laboratory personnel, and investigators other than the vaccine preparation and management staff were masked to the vaccine allocation. The primary outcome was assessment of the geometric mean titres (GMTs) and seroconversion rates of anti-varicella zoster virus immunoglobulin G (IgG) induced by different dose groups of v7D vaccine at 0, 42, 60, and 90 days after vaccination in the per-protocol set for humoral immune response analysis. Safety was a secondary outcome, focusing on adverse events within 42 days post-vaccination, and serious adverse events within 6 months after vaccination. This study was registered on Chinese Clinical Trial Registry, ChiCTR2000034434. FINDINGS: On Aug 18-21, 2020, 842 eligible volunteers were enrolled and randomly assigned treatment. After three participants withdrew, 839 received a low dose (n=211), middle dose (n=210), or high dose (n=210) of v7D vaccine, or the vOka vaccine (n=208). In the per-protocol set for humoral immune response analysis, the anti-varicella zoster virus IgG antibody response was highest at day 90. At day 90, the seroconversion rates of the low-dose, medium-dose, and high-dose groups of v7D vaccine and the positive control vOka vaccine group were 100·0% (95% CI 95·8-100·0; 87 of 87 participants), 98·9% (93·8-100·0; 87 of 88 participants), 97·8% (92·4-99·7; 91 of 93 participants), and 96·4% (89·8-99·2; 80 of 83 participants), respectively; the GMTs corresponded to values of 30·8 (95% CI 26·2-36·0), 31·3 (26·7-36·6), 28·2 (23·9-33·2), and 38·5 (31·7-46·7). The v7D vaccine, at low dose and medium dose, elicited a humoral immune response similar to that of the vOka vaccine. However, the high-dose v7D vaccine induced a marginally lower GMT compared with the vOka vaccine at day 90 (p=0·027). In the per-protocol set, the three dose groups of the v7D vaccine induced a similar humoral immune response at each timepoint, with no statistically significant differences. The incidence of adverse reactions in the low-dose, medium-dose, and high-dose groups of v7D vaccine was significantly lower than that in the vOka vaccine group (17% [35 of 211 participants], 20% [41 of 210 participants], and 13% [27 of 210 participants] vs 24% [50 of 208 participants], respectively; p=0·025), especially local adverse reactions (10% [22 of 211 participants], 14% [30 of 210 participants] and 9% [18 of 210 participants] vs 18% [38 of 208 participants], respectively; p=0·016). None of the serious adverse events were vaccine related. INTERPRETATION: The three dose groups of the candidate v7D vaccine exhibit similar humoral immunogenicity to the vOka vaccine and are well tolerated. These findings encourage further investigations on two-dose vaccination schedules, efficacy, and the potential safety benefit of v7D vaccine in the future. RESUMEN

The vibrational and structural properties of a hydrogen-rich group IVa hydride, Sn(CH(3))(4), have been investigated by combining Raman spectroscopy and synchrotron x-ray diffraction measurements at room temperature and at pressures up to 49.9 GPa. Both techniques allow the obtaining of complementary information on the high-pressure behaviors and yield consistent phase transitions at 0.9 GPa for the liquid to solid and 2.8, 10.4, 20.4, and 32.6 GPa for the solid to solid. The foregoing solid phases are identified to have the orthorhombic, tetragonal, monoclinic crystal structures with space groups of Pmmm for phase I, P4/mmm for phase II, P2/m for phase III, respectively. The phases IV and V coexist with phase III, resulting in complex analysis on the possible structures. These transitions suggest the variation in the inter- and intra-molecular bonding of this compound.

RESUMEN

The structural and vibrational properties of phenanthrene are measured at high pressures up to 30.2 GPa by Raman spectroscopy and synchrotron X-ray diffraction techniques. Two phase transitions are observed in the Raman spectra at pressures of 2.3 GPa and 5.4 GPa which correspond to significant changes of intermolecular and intramolecular vibrational modes. Above 10.2 GPa, all the Raman peaks are lost within the fluorescence background; however, upon further compression above 20.0 GPa, three broad peaks are observed at 1600, 2993, and 3181 cm(-1), indicating that phenanthrene has transformed into amorphous phase. Using X-ray diffraction, the structures of corresponding phases observed from Raman spectra are indexed with space groups of P2(1) for phase I (0-2.2 GPa), P2/m for phase II (2.2-5.6 GPa), P2/m+Pmmm for phase III (5.6-11.4 GPa) which has a coexistence of structures, and above 11.4 GPa the structure is indexed with space group of Pmmm. Although phenanthrene has transformed to a hydrogenated amorphous carbon structure above 20.0 GPa, these amorphous clusters still show characteristic crystalline behavior based on our X-ray diffraction patterns. Our results suggest that the long-range periodicity and the local disorder state coexist in phenanthrene at high pressures.

RESUMEN

Both the vibrational and structural properties of coronene have been investigated upon compression up to 30.5 GPa at room temperature by a combination of Raman scattering and synchrotron x-ray diffraction measurements. The spectroscopic and crystallographic results demonstrate that two pressure-induced structural phase transitions take place at 1.5 GPa and 12.2 GPa where the high-pressure phases are identified as monoclinic and orthorhombic crystal structures with space groups of P2/m and Pmmm, respectively. A kink in the slope of the cell parameters as a function of pressure is associated with the disappearance of several internal Raman modes, which suggests the existence of structural distortions or reorganizations at approximately 6.0 GPa. Above 17.1 GPa, almost no evidence of crystallinity can be observed, indicating a possible transformation of coronene into an amorphous phase.

RESUMEN

To explore carbide superconductors with higher transition temperature, two novel carbon structures of cage-network are designed and their superconductivity is studied by doping metals. MC6 and MC10 are respectively identified as C24 and C32 cage-network structures. This study finds that both carbon structures drive strong electron-phonon interaction and can exhibit superconductivity above liquid nitrogen temperature. Importantly, the superconducting transition temperatures above 100 K are predicted to be achieved in C24 -cage-network systems doped by Na, Mg, Al, In, and Tl at ambient pressure, which is far higher than those in graphite, fullerene, and other carbides. Meanwhile, the superconductivity of cage-network carbides is also found to be sensitive to the electronegativity and concentration of dopant M. The result indicates that the higher transition temperatures can be obtained by optimizing the carbon-cage-network structures and the doping conditions. The study suggests that the carbon-cage-network structure is a direction to explore high-temperature superconducting carbides.

RESUMEN

Clathrate hydrideFm3-m-LaH10has been proven as the most extraordinary superconductor with the critical temperatureTcabove 250 K upon compression of hundreds of GPa in recent years. A general hope is to reduce the stabilization pressure and maintain the highTcvalue of the specific phase in LaH10. However, strong structural instability distortsFm3-mstructure and leads to a rapid decrease ofTcat low pressures. Here, we investigate the phase stability and superconducting behaviors ofFm3-m-LaH10with enhanced chemical pre-compression through partly replacing La by Ce atoms from both experiments and calculations. For explicitly characterizing the synthesized hydride, we choose lanthanum-cerium alloy with stoichiometry composition of 1:1. X-ray diffraction and Raman scattering measurements reveal the stabilization ofFm3-m-La0.5Ce0.5H10in the pressure range of 140-160 GPa. Superconductivity withTcof 175 ± 2 K at 155 GPa is confirmed with the observation of the zero-resistivity state and supported by the theoretical calculations. These findings provide applicability in the future explorations for a large variety of hydrogen-rich hydrides.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: An Escherichia coli-produced human papillomavirus (HPV) 16 and 18 bivalent vaccine (Cecolin) was prequalified by WHO in 2021. This study aimed to compare the immunogenicity of the E coli-produced HPV 9-valent vaccine Cecolin 9 (against HPV 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, and 58) with Gardasil 9. METHODS: This was a randomised, single-blind trial conducted in China. Healthy non-pregnant women aged 18-26 years, who were not breastfeeding and with no HPV vaccination history, were enrolled in the Ganyu Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (Lianyungang City, Jiangsu Province, China). Women were stratified by age (18-22 years and 23-26 years) and randomly assigned (1:1) using a permutated block size of eight to receive three doses of Cecolin 9 or Gardasil 9 at day 0, day 45, and month 6. All participants, as well as study personnel without access to the vaccines, were masked. Neutralising antibodies were measured by a triple-colour pseudovirion-based neutralisation assay. The primary outcomes, seroconversion rates and geometric mean concentrations (GMCs) at month 7, were analysed in the per-protocol set for immunogenicity (PPS-I). Non-inferiority was identified for the lower limit of the 95% CI of the GMC ratio (Cecolin 9 vs Gardasil 9) at a margin of 0·5 and a seroconversion rate difference (Cecolin 9-Gardasil 9) at a margin of -5%. This study was registered at ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT04782895) and is completed. FINDINGS: From March 14 to 18, 2021, a total of 553 potential participants were screened, of which 244 received at least one dose of Cecolin 9 and 243 received at least one dose of Gardasil 9. The seroconversion rates for all HPV types in both groups were 100% in the PPS-I, with the values of the lower limits of 95% CIs for seroconversion rate differences ranging between -1·8% and -1·7%. The GMC ratios of five types were higher than 1·0, with the highest ratio, for HPV 58, at 1·65 (95% CI 1·38-1·97), and those of four types were lower than 1·0, with the lowest ratio, for HPV 11, at 0·79 (0·68-0·93). The incidence of adverse reactions in both groups was similar (43% [104/244] vs 47% [115/243]). INTERPRETATION: Cecolin 9 induced non-inferior HPV type-specific immune responses compared with Gardasil 9 and is a potential candidate to accelerate the elimination of cervical cancer by allowing for global accessibility to 9-valent HPV vaccinations, especially in low-income and middle-income countries. RESUMEN

Background: Despite the success in decreasing varicella-related disease burden, live-attenuated Oka vaccine strain of varicella-zoster virus (vOka) remains neuro-virulence and may establish latency and reactivate, raising safety concerns. Here we aimed to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of a skin- and neuro-attenuated varicella vaccine candidate (v7D). Methods: This is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, dose-escalation and age de-escalation phase 1 clinical trial conducted in Liuzhou, China (ChiCTR1900022284). Eligible healthy participants aged 1-49 years, with no history of varicella vaccination and had no history of varicella or herpes zoster were sequentially enrolled and allocated to subcutaneously receive one of the three doses (3.3, 3.9, and 4.2 lg PFU) of v7D, vOka or placebo in a dose-escalation and age de-escalation manner. The primary outcome was safety, assessed by adverse events/reactions within 42 days after vaccination and serious adverse events (SAEs) throughout six months after vaccination. The secondary outcome was immunogenicity, assessed by the VZV IgG antibodies measured with fluorescent antibody to membrane antigen (FAMA) assay. Findings: Between April 2019 and March 2020, totally 224 participants were enrolled. Within 42 days post-vaccination, the incidences of adverse reactions were 37.5%-38.7% in the three doses of v7D groups which were similar to that of the vOka (37.5%) and placebo (34.4%) groups. No SAE has been judged as causally related to vaccination. At 42 days post-vaccination, 100% of children aged 1-12 years in the per-protocol set of immunogenicity cohort of the v7D groups became seropositive. Meanwhile, in the intent-to-treat set of immunogenicity cohort of subjects aged 1-49 years, the geometric mean increases of the three groups of v7D vaccine were 3.8, 5.8 and 3.2, respectively, which were similar to that of the vOka vaccine group (4.4) and significantly higher than that of the placebo group (1.3). Interpretation: The candidate v7D vaccine has been preliminarily shown to be well-tolerated and immunogenic in humans. The data warrant further evaluation of the safety advantage and efficacy of v7D as a varicella vaccine. RESUMEN

Lithium-rich ternary phosphides are recently found to possess high ionic conductivity and are proposed as promising solid electrolytes (SEs) for solid-state batteries. While lithium ions can facilely transport within these materials, their electrochemical and interfacial stability in complex battery setups remain largely uncharacterized. We study the phase stability and electrochemical stability of phosphide-type SEs via first-principles calculations and thermodynamic analysis. Our results indicate that these SEs have intrinsic electrochemical stability windows narrower than 0.5 V. The SEs exhibit low anodic limits of about 1 V vs Li/Li+ due to the oxidation of the electrolytes to form various P binary compounds, indicating the poor electrochemical stability in contact with the cathode. In particular, we find that the thermodynamic driving force of such electrochemical decomposition is critically dependent on the new phases formed at the interfaces. Therefore, these phosphides might not be suitable as electrolytes. Despite the electrochemical instability, further calculations of Li diffusion kinetics show that the Li conduction is highly efficient through face-sharing octahedral and tetrahedral sites with low energy barriers, in spite of the possible variation of the local environments. In addition, an analysis of the terminal decomposition products shows impressive Li storage capacity as high as 2547 mAh·g-1 based on the conversion mechanism, indicating they are capable as high-rate and energy-dense anode materials for battery applications.

RESUMEN

Chemosensory proteins play an important role in transporting chemical compounds to their receptors on dendrite membranes. In this study, two full-length cDNA codings for chemosensory proteins of Plutella xylostella (Lepidoptera: Plutellidae) were obtained by RACE-PCR. PxylCSP3 and Pxyl-CSP4, with GenBank accession numbers ABM92663 and ABM92664, respectively, were cloned and sequenced. The gene sequences both consisted of three exons and two introns. RT-PCR analysis showed that Pxyl-CSP3 and Pxyl-CSP4 had different expression patterns in the examined developmental stages, but were expressed in all larval stages. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that lepidopteran insects consist of three branches, and Pxyl-CSP3 and Pxyl-CSP4 belong to different branches. The 5'regulatory regions of Pxyl-CSP3 and Pxyl-CSP4 were isolated and analyzed, and the results consist of not only the core promoter sequences (TATA-box), but also several transcriptional elements (BR-C Z4, Hb, Dfd, CF2-II, etc.). This study provides clues to better understanding the various physiological functions of CSPs in P. xylostella and other insects.
