[Trends in knowledge production in nursing about infection control in oncology]. / Tendências da produção do conhecimento de enfermagem no controle de infecção em oncologia.

Health clients with cancer have significant morbimortality complications related to infection. This integrative review analyzes scientific production in nursing about infection control in health clients with cancer. The 37 articles included were found through electronic databases, and published from 2002 to 2009. The data were analyzed from the perspective of epistemological categorization methodology for nursing research. The results indicate that the production is international that it is mostly in the area of clinical oncology, that it emphasizes customers as subjects of investigation, that it also emphasizes exogenous sources of infection, and that literature review articles are prevalent. Conclusions are that the production of knowledge in infection control is a priority on the national scene, and that actions must be based on a systemic view that considers the complexity of providing professional nursing care.

[About interdisciplinarity: epistemiological aspects and implications for nursing]. / Acerca da interdisciplinaridade: aspectos epistemológicos e implicações para a enfermagem.

This study is about interdisciplinarity as a phenomenon and as an emerging subject in Science, which has been divided into many knowledge and professional formation specialties or disciplines, mainly in the health and nursing areas. The approach is of a critical and philosophical nature and the main intention is to point out difficulties and problems with the aim of encouraging and further advancing the discussion. General, more current concepts are presented along with epistemological ideas subjacent to the repercussions of teamwork and transcendent to the conscience beyond the subject's philosophy. The author defends her opinion and posture towards the theme using examples from her academic practice and experience at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro's Anna Nery School of Nursing.

[Research lines in nursing: phylosophical and epistemological highlights]. / Linhas de pesquisa em enfermagem: destaques filosóficos e epistemológicos.

UNLABELLED: In this paper scientific investigation is explained as related to the Nursing Research Lines and Priorities based on the theory of knowledge application and as tangible to Subjectivity and Objectivity on what relates to the integrated categorical terms in the literature as professional, caring and organizational. OBJECTIVE: to elucidate philosophical and epistemological highlights in the face of meaningful, essential considerations, in favor of question causalities of interest to Nursing. METHOD: the reality approach is founded on the theoretical propositions of Johannes Hessen, with held attention to conceptions of other recognized authors. RESULTS: one can state the exposition value to clarify substantive aspects and adjective implications, not only of interest to investigation, but just to pinpoint the essential meanings on the subject related to elaborated thesis and dissertations (Marters' and Doctoral). CONCLUSION: represents a valuable contribution to better clarify details on knowledge construction and on the subject theme under discussion.

[About the theoretic, philosophical, epistemological bases of scientific research: the case of nursing]. / Acerca das bases teóricas, filosóficas, epistemológicas da investigação científica--o caso da enfermagem.

As indicated by the title, this paper discusses the theoretic, philosophical, epistemological basis of scientific research--the case of nursing. The author points out the fundamental questions in nursing--science and art. Nursing is considered both as a social practice and as a profession that encompasses scientific practice and the construction of knowledge. Thus, Nursing is understood as a "science under construction" or as specific knowledge, even if it is imprecise and, therefore, on its way to become scientific due to its evidences. In other words, knowledge that is justified not by total precision, on the contrary, by the need to find answers to the question about raising the epistemological reach of nursing research results--its knowing and knowing what to do. The discussion emphasizes the crucial nature of nursing care.

[Epistemological constructs in sciences -- a contribution to nursing]. / Sobre construtos epistemológicos nas ciências--uma contribuição para a enfermagem.

This study presents some critical reflections "about epistemological constructs in science", on the basis of concepts and preoccupations that are inherent to the scientific and technological advances that influence the construction of knowledge. In accordance with the methodological approach, nursing is seen as "a science under construction". The discussion and arguments focus on distinct aspects/traces of science, which define the nature and objectives of research and which broaden the view of objective knowledge and reality for the field of nursing. In coherence with philosophical and academic reference bases, the author uses the focus of discourse to emphasize/highlight the meaning of constructs as being consistent with the elaboration of significant theories or issues in a field of study and explains her intellectual position in relation to some nursing theses (Ph.D.), in an attempt to explain epistemological aspects of the construction of nursing science.

[Fundamental nursing: predicatives and implications]. / Enfermagem fundamental: predicativos e implicações.

This work aims at describing and analyzing the concept of fundamental nursing, with the purpose to clarify the constitutive elements that can be applied to understand and expand this termination. In spite of being created in the 1970s at the Anna Nery School of Nursing, this concept was adopted by other Schools of Nursing in the country to designate a teaching program or a department. The author states in favor of this termination as a theoretical abstraction that is maintained in the practice dimension as an essential component of nursing understood in its totality. The author affirms that what is fundamental is not only the basic, but general, including professional actions of providing care to people and human groups. Fundamental is the character of "uniqueness" that transcends nursing in its totality, independently of the several categorizations, sectors and sceneries of professional action. It also represents the consolidation of nurses meeting with their clients in health or disease situations. The personal view is applied to elucidate predicatives and implications regarding the use of this concept in teaching and research.

[About the professional identity in nursing: punctual reconsiderations in philosophical vision]. / Sobre a identidade profissional na Enfermagem: reconsiderações pontuais em visão filosófica.

This paper is a contribution to the 80th years of the Brazilian Nursing Journal, official journal of the Brazilian Nurses Association, first nominated Nursing Annals and created in May 1932. At that time, the issues were focused as proposals to assure exchange communication between the Professional Class -the National Brazilian Graduate Nurses Association - and the associates, including all the people. In this way, the associate leaders were impelled through professional advances allied to the knowledge production regarding to the Professional Know/Knowledge, the practice assistance and education. The approach is through discussion and analytical appreciation about professional identity with punctual reconsiderations in philosophical vision. Instead of researching parameters the author prefers a pragmatic style around examples of three situations-problem as succeeded in the practical assistance, so that they could be critically appreciated alike fundamental basis to the nurses' art and enough to assure the definition of the professional profile in the historical-evolutive trajectory - with beginning in the nightingalean modernity and the proper assumed parsonian concepts - as such they are observed in the Brazilian Nursing literature.
