RESUMO

There is growing evidence that extracellular vesicles (EVs) play a functional role in tissue repair and anti-aging by transferring the contents of donor cells to recipient cells. We hypothesized that Dauer (C. elegans), known as "ageless" nematodes, can also secrete extracellular vesicles and influence the lifespan of C. elegans. Here, we isolated EVs of dauer larvae (dauer EVs). Dauer EVs were characterized using transmission electron microscopy, nanoparticle tracking analysis (NTA), and Western blot analysis. Wild-type C. elegans were fed in the presence or absence of dauer EVs and tested for a range of phenotypes, including longevity, mobility and reproductive capacity. Results showed that dauer EVs increased the average lifespan of nematodes by 15.74%, improved mobility, slowed age-related pigmentation as well as body length, and reduced the accumulation of reactive oxygen species and lipids, while not impairing nematode reproductive capacity. These findings suggest that dauer EVs can extend the lifespan of C. elegans as well as the healthy lifespan by reducing ROS accumulation, with potential anti-aging capacity.

RESUMO

Selective activation of the C-H bond of aromatic hydrocarbons is significant in synthetic chemistry. However, achieving oriented C-H activation remains challenging due to the poor selectivity of aromatic C-H bonds. Herein, we successfully constructed alternately arranged Au-C4 and Au-O4 organometallic coordination networks through selective aromatic C-H bond activation on Au(111) substrate. The stepwise reaction process of the 5, 12-dibromopyrene 3,4,9, 10-tetracarboxylic dianhydride precursor is monitored by high-resolution scanning tunneling microscopy. Our results show that the gold atoms in C-Au-C organometallic chains play a crucial role in promoting the selective ortho C-H bonds activation and forming Au-C4 coordination structure, which is further demonstrated by a comparative experiment of PTCDA precursor on Au(111). Furthermore, our experiment of 2Br-PTCDA precursor on Cu(111) substrate confirms that copper atoms in C-Cu-C organometallic chains can also assist the formation of Cu-C4 coordination structure. Our results reveal the vital effect of organometallic coordination on selective C-H bond activation of reactants, which holds promising implications for controllable on-surface synthesis.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Many older people with dementia currently prefer home care; however, homes are neither professionally designed nor regulated like health care facilities, and home care is more prone to safety incidents. Many studies have examined home care safety for older people with dementia. However, factors contributing to safety incidents in home care have not been adequately considered. This study explored the risk factors for home care safety for older people with dementia based on the perspective of family caregivers. METHODS: This study used a qualitative research approach; a total of 24 family caregivers were interviewed face-to-face and semi-structured from February 2022 to May 2022, and the Colaizzi seven-step phenomenological research method was used to analyze the data and refine the themes. RESULTS: Safety risks in home care for older people with dementia stem from five areas: poor health of older people with dementia, dementia symptoms, unsafe home environment, the insufficient caring ability of family caregivers, and lack of safety awareness of family caregivers. CONCLUSION: The risk factors for home care safety for older people with dementia are complex. And as the primary caregivers of older people with dementia, the caregiving ability and safety awareness of family caregivers primarily determine the safety of home care for older people with dementia. Therefore, when addressing home care safety for older people with dementia, the focus should be on providing targeted education programs and support services for family caregivers of older people with dementia.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: As the quality of life of stoma patients has become a research hotspot, sexual health as an integral part of patients' lives has received more and more attention. However, there is a lack of comprehensive reviews on the sexual experiences of patients with stomas. This study aims to synthesize the qualitative literature on the subjective experience of stoma patients' sexual life, to identify their sexual needs, and to provide evidence for the content and methods of sexual health interventions for healthcare professionals. METHODS: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, CINAHL, and Scopus were searched for qualitative studies on the sexual experience of stoma patients (from the inception to January 2023). Titles, abstracts, and full texts were reviewed by two researchers. We used the Critical Appraisal Program (CASP) checklist to assess the quality of included articles. RESULTS: A total of 1388 articles were retrieved, and eight studies were included. Data was extracted, including three main themes: 1) sexual problems due to changes in physical function and psychological disorders; 2) the relationship with spouse changes; 3) the cognition of sexual life and the need for sexual knowledge. CONCLUSION: Healthcare professionals should pay attention to the sexual life status and sexual health needs of stoma patients and their partners, and give professional guidance and support in treatment and nursing to improve the quality of sexual life of stoma patients.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Older adults are a high-risk group for accidental injuries, and strengthening training in first aid for older adults can improve their first aid capabilities and minimize their post-accident mortality. Community health workers are the greatest option to equip older adults with first aid instruction and training. However, the development of first aid education for the public by community health workers fails to take into account the elderly population. In view of this, this study aims to explore the barriers and challenges of first aid training for older adults from the perspective of community health workers and to provide a basis for better first-aid training for older adults in the community. METHODS: This study adopted a qualitative research design. A total of 18 community health workers were recruited from two community health service centers in Qujing and one community health service center in Guangzhou from May to July 2022 to participate in the study. Participants were interviewed face-to-face using semi-structured in-depth interviews. The interview data were analyzed using Krippendorff's thematic clustering technique. RESULTS: The results of the study identified community health workers' perceived challenges and barriers to providing first aid training to older adults in the community as older adults-level barriers, community health workers-level barriers, management systems-level barriers, and society-level barriers. CONCLUSIONS: Community health workers are highly aware of multiple barriers and challenges in providing first aid training to community-based elderly populations. In particular, lack of professional training, heavy workloads, and limited resources and financial support. Therefore, supportive training, policies, and government funding are crucial for community health workers to conduct first aid training for older adults.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Advance care planning (ACP) enables people to define goals and preferences for future medical treatment and care. Despite universal recognition of the importance of ACP for people with Alzheimer´s disease (AD) internationally, there is little support for its implementation in China. The viewpoint of family caregivers is crucial in making clinical decisions about AD. Therefore, it's critical to understand the family caregivers' perspectives on ACP in order to promote its practice among people with AD in China. METHODS: Seventeen family caregivers of people with AD were purposively selected in three communities in Guangzhou. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to collect data and the data were analyzed using the thematic analysis. RESULTS: Three main themes were extracted: ①Attitudes toward ACP including positive and negative attitudes; ②Social pressure influencing ACP decision; ③Behavioral willingness of the implementation of ACP. CONCLUSIONS: Attitudes, social pressure, and behavioral willingness characterized the behavioral intentions of family caregivers of people with Alzheimer's disease. It is recommended to strengthen efforts to publicity of advance care planning and promote legislation in China.

RESUMO

Chromium Cr(VI) is frequently used in many fields and has been intensively researched for detection and/or removal from contaminated water. However, the existing approaches are still of low efficiency, high cost, and cumbersome in operation. It is thus highly imperative to hunt for alternative avenues to get out of the predicament. In this work, two bcu topological and highly stable zirconium-metal-organic frameworks (Zr-MOFs) of 1 and 2 have been deliberately prepared, displaying channel-type interior spaces replete with free bipyridine/biquinoline matrices and Zr-O defect sites. Because of their unique intrinsic features of high porosity and photosensitivity, 1 and 2 were deployed as versatile platforms to sense, adsorb, and catalytically reduce Cr(VI) ions. Indeed, the Zr-MOF of 1 performs excellently in fluorescence sensing and adsorption trapping of Cr(VI), with an ultralow detection limit of 0.0176 ppm and a fairly high saturated adsorption capacity of 145.77 mg/g, while 2 is more powerful than 1 in photochemical removal of Cr(VI), exhibiting a remarkable reduction efficiency of 98.05% just within 70 min and still up to 92.21% even after five consecutive photocatalytic cycles. Furthermore, possible photoluminescence, quenching, and reduction mechanisms were also tentatively proposed. This study may open up a new avenue for addressing some unresolved environmental issues, that is, the decontamination of highly toxic Cr(VI) from water.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Although the benefits of using a flipped classroom in nursing education have been reported, there are few published studies attempting to understand students' subjective experiences with scaffolding in a flipped classroom and the challenges they face as a result of this type of educational change. The purpose of this study was to describe students' perspectives of scaffolding in the Flipped Classroom of the Fundamental Nursing Practice Course (FNPC-FC). METHODS: Thirty-four undergraduates were recruited and separated into four groups in the study. The data was collected through semi-structured focus group interviews. Thematic analysis was conducted to analyze the data in order to determine the themes in the interview transcriptions. RESULTS: The research revealed two primary themes with associated sub-themes: 1) challenging learning experience, and 2) teacher-student interaction. CONCLUSIONS: Students will confront substantial challenges as scaffolding strategies are implemented in the flipped classroom. On the other hand, scaffolding in the flipped classroom can successfully train students to be self-directed learners and equip them with nursing skills when students are given appropriate support.

RESUMO

Cherry (Prunus avium) has become an important economical fruit in China. In October 2020, a leaf spot disease was found on cherry in the orchard of Taizhou Academy of Agriculture Sciences, Zhejiang, China. The symptoms appeared as small, water-soaked spots on the leaves, which later became larger, dark brown, and necrotic lesions of 1 cm to 3 cm in width, 4 cm to 8 cm in length. Disease incidences of approximately 60% of the leaves were observed by sampling five locations. To isolate the causing agent, small fragments from five target symptomatic leaves were surface-sterilized with 1.0% sodium hypochlorite solution for 1 min and then rinsed three times with sterilized water. Afterwards the leaf fragments were air-dried, plated onto potato dextrose agar (PDA) medium, and incubated at 25 ℃ in the dark for 2 days. The pure cultures were obtained by transferring hyphal plug of 2 mm in diameter onto PDA, which followed single spore isolation. The colony morphology showed light to dark gray, cottony mycelium, with the underside of the culture became brownish after 7 days. Conidia (n = 28) were hyaline, smooth-walled, cylindrical, aseptate, broadly rounded ends, and average size around 3.84 × 12.82 µm (2.99 to 4.87 × 10.27 to 15.68 µm). Appressoria (n = 27) were mostly brown, ovoid and slightly irregular in shape, and average size around 8.04 × 9.68 µm (6.29 to 9.67 × 9.32 to 12.06 µm). Perithecia average size is 106.25 µm, textura angularis, thick-walled. Asci 26.35-49.18 × 5.00-12.03 µm (average size 37.44 × 7.80 µm, n = 17), unitunicate, thin-walled, clavate or cymbiform. Ascospores 13.69-20.93 × 3.86-6.69 µm (average size 16.00 × 5.42 µm, n = 30), one-celled, hyaline, one or two large guttulate at the centre, slightly rounded ends. The morphological characteristics matched well with previous descriptions of Colletotrichum species of C. gloeosporioides species complex, including C. fructicola (Prihastuti et al. 2009; Fu et al. 2019). The identity of two representative isolates (cf2-3 and cf4-4) from different leaves was confirmed by means of multi-locus gene sequencing. To this end, genomic DNA was extracted by the Plant Direct PCR kit (Vazyme Biotech Co., Ltd, China). Molecular identification was conducted by sequencing the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) rDNA region, partial glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) gene, partial actin (ACT) gene, partial beta-tubulin 2 gene (TUB2), and partial chitin synthase gene (CHS). The obtained sequences have been deposited in GenBank under accession numbers MW581851 and MW581852 (ITS), MW590586 and MW590587 (GAPDH), MW616561 and MW616562 (ACT), MW729380 and MW729381 (TUB2), MW729378 and MW729379 (CHS). The results of Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST) analysis revealed that the ITS, GAPDH, ACT, TUB2 and CHS sequences of both isolates matched with 100% identity to Colletotrichum fructicola culture collection sequences in GenBank database (JX010165, JX009998, JX009491, JX010405, and JX009866 respectively). These morphological characteristics and molecular analyses allowed the identification of the pathogen as C. fructicola. Koch's postulates were performed with healthy detached cherry leaves of cultivar namely 'HongMi' from Taizhou Academy of Agriculture Sciences. Surface-sterilized leaves were inoculated with five-day-old cultures of C. fructicola mycelial discs of 2 mm in diameter after being wounded with a needle or non-wounded. Control leaves were inoculated with discs of same size PDA agar. Treated leaves were incubated at 25 ℃ in the dark at high relative humidity. Anthracnose symptoms appeared within 3 days both on non-wounded and wounded inoculation approaches. Mock-inoculated controls remained asymptomatic. Biological repetitions were carried out three times. The fungus was reisolated from infected leaves and confirmed as C. fructicola following the methods described above. Until recently, it has been found that C. fructicola can infect tea, apple, pear, Pouteria campechiana in China (Fu et al. 2014; Li et al. 2013; Shi et al. 2018; Yang et al. 2020). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of C. fructicola on cherry in China.

RESUMO

The thyroid surgery with lateral cervical incision uses the sternocleidomastoid intermuscular approach through the gap between band muscles and carotid sheath to reach the surgical field. The recurrent laryngeal nerve and upper and lower parathyroid glands are first identified, the upper pole vessels are severed; then the Berry ligament is separated; the isthmus is severed, and the thyroid gland is finally removed. This approach can avoid the trauma of the skin and muscle tissue in the anterior neck region, to relieve the pressure on the neck and swallowing stretch feeling for patients after surgery. The surgical modality is effective and less time-consuming. This article gives a detailed introduction to the standardized procedures and some key points of thyroid surgery with lateral cervical incision.

RESUMO

Aberrant expression of the RON receptor tyrosine kinase, a cell surface protein, is a pathogenic feature in pancreatic cancer, which renders it a drug target for targeted therapy. Nevertheless, development of therapeutics targeting RON for pancreatic cancer therapy is hampered due to the lack of full addiction by pancreatic cancer cells to RON signaling for growth and survival. Here we describe a novel strategy using anti-RON antibody-directed drug delivery in the form of an antibody-drug conjugate for inhibition and/or eradication of pancreatic cancers. Monoclonal antibody Zt/g4 specific to the RON Sema domain was selected as the drug carrier based on its ability to induce robust RON internalization. Conjugation of Zt/g4 with monomethyl auristatin E, designated as Zt/g4-MMAE, was achieved through a protease-sensitive dipeptide linker to reach a drug to antibody ratio of 3.29:1. Zt/g4-MMAE was stable in human plasma with a dissociation rate less than 4% within a 10 day period. In vitro, Zt/g4-MMAE rapidly induced RON internalization, resulting in cell cycle arrest followed by massive cell death. The maximal effect was seen in pancreatic cancer cells with more than 10 000 receptor molecules per cell. Zt/g4-MMAE also synergized in vitro with chemotherapeutics including gemcitabine, 5-fluorouracil, and oxaliplatin to further reduce PDAC cell viability. In vivo, Zt/g4-MMAE exerts a long-lasting activity, which not only inhibited but also eradicated pancreatic xenograft tumors. These finding indicate that Zt/g4-directed drug delivery is highly effective for eradicating pancreatic tumors. Thus, Zt/g4-MMAE is a novel biotherapeutic with potential for therapy of RON-expressing pancreatic malignancies.

RESUMO

Supramolecular polymers have attracted plenty of interest in the scientific community; however, developing controllable methods of supramolecular polymerization remains a serious challenge. This article reviews some recent developments of methods for supramolecular polymerization from controllable fabrication to living polymerization. Three facile methods with general applicability for controllable fabrication of supramolecular polymers have been established recently: the first method is a self-sorting approach by manipulating ring-chain equilibrium based on noncovalent control over rigidity of monomers; the second is covalent polymerization from supramonomers formed by noncovalent interactions; and the third is supramolecular interfacial polymerization. More excitingly, living supramolecular polymerization has been achieved by two elegant strategies, including seeded supramolecular polymerization under pathway complexity control and chain-growth supramolecular polymerization by metastable monomers. It is anticipated that this review may provide some guidance for precise fabrication of supramolecular polymers, leading to the construction of supramolecular polymeric materials with controllable architectures and functions.

RESUMO

By employing noncovalent interactions, chemists have constructed a variety of molecular aggregates with well-defined structures and fascinating properties. In fabricating stable and large molecular assemblies, noncovalent interactions with high binding strength are needed. This Concept summarizes some strategies to modify and optimize the structures of building blocks for making weak noncovalent interactions stronger. The strategies include: 1) Preorganization of binding sites; 2) spatial confinement effects; 3) multivalent enhancement; 4) synergistic binding with multiple forces. Examples of the fabrication of supramolecular architectures by utilizing these strategies are presented and discussed. Guidance is offered in the construction and fabrication of stable molecular assemblies and supramolecular materials.

RESUMO

Breast cancer (BC) represents a multifaceted malignancy, with escalating incidence and mortality rates annually. Chemotherapy stands as an indispensable approach for treating breast cancer, yet drug resistance poses a formidable challenge. Through transcriptome data analysis, we have identified two sets of genes exhibiting differential expression in this context. Furthermore, we have confirmed the overlap between these genes and those associated with exosomes, which were subsequently validated in cell lines. The investigation screened the identified genes to determine prognostic markers for BC and utilized them to formulate a prognostic model. The disparities in prognosis and immunity between the high- and low-risk groups were validated using the test dataset. We have discerned different BC subtypes based on the expression levels of prognostic genes in BC samples. Variations in prognosis, immunity, and drug sensitivity among distinct subtypes were examined. Leveraging data from single-cell sequencing and prognostic gene expression, the AUCell algorithm was employed to score individual cell clusters and analyze the pathways implicated in high-scoring groups. Prognostic genes (CCT4, CXCL13, MTDH, PSMD2, and RAB27A) were subsewoquently validated using RT-qPCR. Consequently, we have established a model for predicting prognosis in breast cancer that hinges on drug resistance and ERGs. Furthermore, we have evaluated the prognostic value of this model. The genes identified as prognostic markers can now serve as a reference for precise treatment of this condition.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: The aim was to synthesize evidence on the use of person-centered outcome measures to facilitate integrated palliative care for older people and build a logic model depicting the mechanisms through which person-centered outcome measures support integrated care. DESIGN: Mixed methods systematic review using a data-based convergent synthesis design. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS: Older people aged ≥60 years who are approaching the end of their lives in multiple settings. METHODS: The study was underpinned by a conceptual framework of integrated palliative care, which informed the search strategy, data extraction, analysis, and synthesis. A hybrid search strategy was implemented, with database searches (PsycINFO, MEDLINE, CINAHL, and ASSIA) complemented by snowball searches. Qualitative and quantitative data were analyzed by narrative synthesis to summarize and explain the findings. The findings informed a logic model depicting the mechanisms of using person-centered outcome measures to support integrated palliative care. RESULTS: Twenty-six studies were included. Three mixed methods studies, 2 qualitative studies, and 21 quantitative studies were included. There was evidence that person-centered outcome measures could support integrated palliative care through informing palliative care policy development (n = 4), facilitating joint working across settings (n = 5), enabling close collaboration of multidisciplinary teams (n = 14), promoting joint education (n = 1), facilitating timing and specialist referral (n = 6), and enhancing patient-centered care (n = 3). CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS: This review makes an important, novel, and theoretically informed contribution to the delivery of scalable and sustainable integrated palliative care into the care of older people using person-centered outcome measures. The constructed logic model provides a conceptual framework and practical approach to how person-centered outcome measures support multilevel integration. A future area of research is the development of person-centered outcome measure interventions informed by the logic model to meet clinical needs.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Involvement of the recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is an important prognostic factor and is associated with a higher risk of recurrence. This study aimed to retrospectively analyze the outcomes of patients treated with hemithyroidectomy (HT) in PTC patients with an exclusive RLN invasion who could not tolerate staged surgery, did not wish to undergo another operation, or had other reasons. METHODS: A retrospective review was conducted on 163 patients with PTC and exclusive RLN involvement at our institution between 2013 and 2019. Patients were divided into a total thyroidectomy (TT) group and HT group. The clinicopathologic factors and prognostic outcomes were compared between the two groups. A propensity score-matched analysis was carried out to reduce selection bias, with the following covariates: gender, age, tumor size, multifocality, central lymph node metastasis (CLNM), and RLN resection. The Kaplan-Meier method was used for a comparison of recurrence outcomes. RESULTS: In the baseline data of the 163 PTC patients, tumor size (p < 0.001), multifocality (p = 0.011), CLNM (p < 0.001), and RLN resection (p < 0.008) in the TT and HT groups differed significantly, whereas age and gender did not differ between the two groups. The TT group reported significantly higher temporary and permanent hypoparathyroidism than the HT group (p < 0.001 and p = 0.042, respectively). With 72-month median follow-up, 11 (6.7%) patients developed recurrence. After propensity score matching, 24 patients with HT and 43 patients with TT were included. Recurrence-free survival (RFS) in the matched samples showed no difference between the TT and HT groups (p = 0.092). CONCLUSION: Our results indicate that HT may be a feasible treatment for PTC patients with exclusive RLN involvement in specific circumstances without significantly increasing the risk of recurrence. Performing a thorough preoperative examination is crucial to exclude multifocal tumors and lymph node metastasis before undergoing HT.

RESUMO

The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and the plasma membrane (PM) form ER-PM contact sites (EPCSs) that allow the ER and PM to exchange materials and information. Stress-induced disruption of protein folding triggers ER stress, and the cell initiates the unfolded protein response (UPR) to resist the stress. However, whether EPCSs play a role in ER stress in plants remains unclear. VESICLE-ASSOCIATED MEMBRANE PROTEIN (VAMP)-ASSOCIATED PROTEIN 27-1 (VAP27-1) functions in EPCS tethering and is encoded by a family of 10 genes (VAP27-1-10) in Arabidopsis thaliana. Here, we used CRISPR-Cas9-mediated genome editing to obtain a homozygous vap27-1 vap27-3 vap27-4 (vap27-1/3/4) triple mutant lacking three of the key VAP27 family members in Arabidopsis. The vap27-1/3/4 mutant exhibits defects in ER-PM connectivity and EPCS architecture, as well as excessive UPR signaling. We further showed that relocation of VAP27-1 to the PM mediates specific VAP27-1-related EPCS remodeling and expansion under ER stress. Moreover, the spatiotemporal dynamics of VAP27-1 at the PM increase ER-PM connectivity and enhance Arabidopsis resistance to ER stress. In addition, we revealed an important role for intracellular calcium homeostasis in the regulation of UPR signaling. Taken together, these results broaden our understanding of the molecular and cellular mechanisms of ER stress and UPR signaling in plants, providing additional clues for improving plant broad-spectrum resistance to different stresses.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of Qili Qiangxin Capsule combined with cardiac exercise rehabilitation on patients with chronic heart failure (CHF). METHODS: A total of 93 CHF patients admitted to Shanghai's Putuo District Central Hospital from March 2021 to December 2021 were included in the study and were randomly divided into the control group (46 cases) and the intervention group (47 cases). The control group received routine treatment, and the intervention group was treated with Qili Qiangxin Capsule as well as cardiac exercise rehabilitation that was routine for patients with CHF. The total effective rate, 6-min walking distance, left ventricular ejection fraction, B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) level, left ventricular end-systolic diameter, and left ventricular end-diastolic diameter were compared in terms of the two groups. RESULTS: After three months of treatment, when compared with the control group, the total effective rate of the treatment on the patients in the intervention group increased significantly (87.23% vs 63.04%; P < 0.05). The 6-minute walking distance, BNP level, and the left ventricular end-diastolic diameter improved more drastically in the intervention group than in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in the other indicators before and after treatment (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Qili Qiangxin Capsule combined with cardiac exercise rehabilitation can significantly improve cardiac and motor function in patients with CHF.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Surgery is still the most important treatment method for thyroid cancer. The classic linea alba cervicalis approach caused obvious neck scarring. This study explored an alternative open operative approach with concealed incision for hemithyroidectomy, and demonstrated whether it was non-inferior to traditional approach in postoperative complications and operation efficiency. METHODS: Patients ( n =220) from November 2019 to November 2020 willing to undergo hemithyroidectomy because of differentiated thyroid cancer were randomly divided into the sternocleidomastoid intermuscular approach (SMIA) group ( n =110), and the linea alba cervicalis approach (LACA) group ( n =110). The incidence of postoperative complications within 3 months and operation efficiency indicator R0 resection rate were recorded as primary endpoint, while scar apperance was assessed as secondary endpoint. The data were statistically analyzed. RESULTS: The baseline data of these two groups were comparable, with no significant difference ( P >0.05). As primary endpoint, R0 resection rate was 100% in both groups. In the 1-month follow-up period, the SMIA group had a lower score for neck discomfort compared with that of the LACA group (1.01±0.1648 vs. 0.5657±0.0976, P =0.0217). The SMIA group's scar had better results from the observer scar assessment compared to that of the LACA group as secondary endpoint. Within the 3-month follow-up, the total complications were calculated, and it was demonstrated that SMIA was non-inferior to traditional LACA operation ( P of non-inferiority=0.0048). CONCLUSIONS: Compared with LACA group, surgery through the SMIA is safe, effective, and has non-inferior postoperative complications. SMIA can be considered an alternative approach to classic LACA in hemithyroidectomy.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To summarize and compare current common treatments in recurrent laryngeal nerve injury (RLNI). In addition, we introduced nerve tissue engineering technology in RLNI animal models. This review is a comprehensive summary of current therapies for unilateral RLNI. BACKGROUND: RLNI is a common complication in thyroid surgery. Although preoperative imaging and intraoperative nerve monitoring are widely applied, some damage to nerves is still inevitable. Currently, advances in nerve repair and regeneration have been made, but relatively few studies have focused on RLNI. In this review, we summarized and compared current common treatments in RLNI. METHODS: We searched the literature on PubMed and Web of Science, and chose studies about RLNI in thyroid surgery. Keywords included the following terms: "recurrent laryngeal nerve regeneration", "injection laryngoplasty", "type I thyroplasty", "arytenoid adduction", and "nerve tissue engineering technology". Only English language studies were included. In the section on nerve tissue engineering technology, we described the application in detail in the table below. CONCLUSIONS: Currently, the majority of treatments could obtain different effects to some extent, but there are still shortcomings that need to be overcome further overcome. Therefore, potential exploration such as nerve tissue engineering technology is worthy of attention.
