RESUMO

Depression is characterized by the loss of pleasure and a depressed mood, and it is a common mental disorder in the twenty-first century. Multiple gene imbalances, which are considered pathological factors in depression, were detected in the brain. Electroacupuncture is an effective therapeutic approach for depression that has minimal side effects. As a crucial structure in the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal, the hypothalamus plays a key role in depression. Our study focused on the transcriptome level in the hypothalamus of depressive rats. After chronic unpredictable mild stress, the rats exhibited depressive-like behaviors, such as decreased sucrose consumption in the SPT, increased time in the central area of the OFT and increased immobility in the FST. Moreover, electroacupuncture alleviated depressive behaviors. Because of the importance of the hypothalamus in depression, we next detected gene expression in the hypothalamus. A total of 510 genes (125 upregulated genes and 385 downregulated genes) were detected in the hypothalamus of depressive rats. 15 of the 125 upregulated genes and 63 of the 385 downregulated genes could be altered by electroacupuncture, which suggests the antidepressant effect of electroacupuncture. Our study also provided the evidence that regulation of transcriptome in the hypothalamus might be a potential mechanism of electroacupuncture treatment.

RESUMO

Visceral hypersensitivity, a common clinical manifestation of irritable bowel syndrome, may contribute to the development of chronic visceral pain, which is a major challenge for both patients and health providers. Neural circuits in the brain encode, store, and transfer pain information across brain regions. In this review, we focus on the anterior cingulate cortex and paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus to highlight the progress in identifying the neural circuits involved in visceral pain. We also discuss several neural circuit mechanisms and emphasize the importance of cross-species, multiangle approaches and the identification of specific neurons in determining the neural circuits that control visceral pain.

BACKGROUND: Currently, a variety of Western medical interventions are available for the treatment of diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D) with comorbid anxiety and depression. However, the attendant negative effects also emerge, putting pressure on healthcare resources and socio-economic structures. In recent years, the benefits of acupuncture (ACU) and moxibustion in the treatment of IBS-D with anxiety and depression have gradually emerged. However, there are many types of ACU-moxibustion-related treatments, and the aim of this study is to examine the effectiveness of different ACU-moxibustion therapies in the treatment of anxiety and depression in IBS-D patients. METHODS: Searched and identified randomized controlled trials (RCTS) of ACU for the treatment of anxiety and depression in patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The search spanned from the establishment of the database until September 1, 2023. Revman 5.4 and Stata 15.0 software were used for network meta-analysis (NMA), and the included interventions were ranked by the area under the cumulative ranking curve. RESULTS: A total of 26 articles involving 8 interventions were included. In terms of improving HAMA score, MOX was superior to EA, combined therapies, CH, WM and placebo; In terms of improving HAMD score, MOX was superior to ACU, EA, combined therapies, WM and placebo; In terms of improving the SAS score, The combined therapies were superior to EA, CH and WM; In terms of improving SDS scores, The combined therapies were superior to EA, CH and WM; In terms of improving IBS-SSS score, The combined therapies were superior to WM; In terms of reducing recurrence rates, CH was superior to combined therapies; In terms of improving total effective rates, MOX was superior to EA, CH, WM and placebo; MOX, combined therapies, ACU and EA ranked higher in SUCRA of different outcome indicators. CONCLUSION: MOX, combined therapies, ACU and EA have certain curative effect on anxiety and depression in patients with IBS-D, and their safety is high. ACU and MOX combined with other therapies also have significant advantages in the treatment effect.

Objective: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of various acupuncture treatments in conjunction with multimodal analgesia (MA) for managing postoperative pain and improving knee function in patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA), based on the findings from clinical research indicating the potential benefits of acupuncture-related therapies in this context. Methods: We searched Web of Science, PubMed, SCI-hub, Embase, Cochrane Library, China Biology Medicine (CBM), China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang Data, and Chinese Scientific Journal Database (VIP) to collect randomized controlled trials of acupuncture-related therapies for post-TKA pain. After independent screening and data extraction, the quality of the included literature was evaluated. The potential for bias in the studies incorporated in the analysis was assessed according to the guidelines outlined in the Cochrane Handbook 5.1. Network meta-analysis (NMA) was conducted using RevMan 5.4 and Stata 16.0 software, with primary outcome measures including visual analog scale (VAS), pain pressure threshold (PPT), hospital for special surgery knee score (HSS), and knee joint range of motion (ROM). Furthermore, the interventions were ranked based on the SUCRA value. Results: We conducted an analysis of 41 qualifying studies encompassing 3,003 patients, examining the efficacy of four acupuncture therapies (acupuncture ACU, electroacupuncture EA, transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation TEAS, and auricular acupoint therapy AAT) in conjunction with multimodal analgesia (MA) and MA alone. The VAS results showed no significant difference in efficacy among the five interventions for VAS-3 score. However, TEAS+MA (SMD: 0.67; 95%CI: 0.01, 1.32) was more effective than MA alone for VAS-7 score. There was no significant difference in PPT score among the three interventions. ACU + MA (SMD: 6.45; 95%CI: 3.30, 9.60), EA + MA (SMD: 4.89; 95%CI: 1.46, 8.32), and TEAS+MA (SMD: 5.31; 95%CI: 0.85, 9.78) were found to be more effective than MA alone for HSS score. For ROM score, ACU + MA was more efficacious than EA + MA, TEAS+MA, and AAT + MA, MA. Regarding the incidence of postoperative adverse reactions, nausea and vomiting were more prevalent after using only MA. Additionally, the incidence of postoperative dizziness and drowsiness following ACU + MA (OR = 4.98; 95%CI: 1.01, 24.42) was observed to be higher compared to that after AAT + MA intervention. Similarly, the occurrence of dizziness and drowsiness after MA was found to be significantly higher compared to the following interventions: TEAS+MA (OR = 0.36; 95%CI: 0.18, 0.70) and AAT + MA (OR = 0.20; 95%CI: 0.08, 0.50). The SUCRA ranking indicated that ACU + MA, EA + MA, TEAS+MA, and AAT + MA displayed superior SUCRA scores for each outcome index, respectively. Conclusion: For the clinical treatment of post-TKA pain, acupuncture-related therapies can be selected as a complementary and alternative therapy. EA + MA and TEAS+MA demonstrate superior efficacy in alleviating postoperative pain among TKA patients. ACU + MA is the optimal choice for promoting postoperative knee joint function recovery in TKA patients. AAT + MA is recommended for preventing postoperative adverse reactions. AIMS: Negative emotions induced by chronic pain are a serious clinical problem. Electroacupuncture (EA) is a clinically proven safe and effective method to manage pain-related negative emotions. However, the circuit mechanisms underlying the effect of EA treatment on negative emotions remain unclear. METHODS: Plantar injection of complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA) was performed to establish a rat model of chronic inflammatory pain-induced anxiety-like behaviors. Adeno-associated virus (AAV) tracing was used to identify excitatory synaptic transmission from the rostral anterior cingulate cortex (rACC) to the dorsal raphe nucleus (DRN). Employing chemogenetic approaches, we examined the role of the rACC-DRN circuit in chronic pain-induced anxiety-like behaviors and investigated whether EA could reverse chronic pain-induced dysfunctions of the rACC-DRN circuit and anxiety-like behaviors. RESULTS: We found that chemogenetic activation of the rACC-DRN circuit alleviated CFA-induced anxiety-like behaviors, while chemogenetic inhibition of the rACC-DRN circuit resulted in short-term CFA-induced anxiety-like behaviors. Further research revealed that the development of CFA-induced anxiety-like behaviors was attributed to the dysfunction of rACC CaMKII neurons projecting to DRN serotonergic neurons (rACCCaMKII-DRN5-HT neurons) but not rACC CaMKII neurons projecting to DRN GABAergic neurons (rACCCaMKII-DRNGABA neurons). This is supported by the findings that chemogenetic activation of the rACCCaMKII-DRN5-HT circuit alleviates anxiety-like behaviors in rats with chronic pain, whereas neither chemogenetic inhibition nor chemogenetic activation of the rACCCaMKII-DRNGABA circuit altered CFA chronic pain-evoked anxiety-like behaviors in rats. More importantly, we found that EA could reverse chronic pain-induced changes in the activity of rACC CaMKII neurons and DRN 5-HTergic neurons and that chemogenetic inhibition of the rACCCaMKII-DRN5-HT circuit blocked the therapeutic effects of EA on chronic pain-induced anxiety-like behaviors. CONCLUSIONS: Our data suggest that the reversal of rACCCaMKII-DRN5-HT circuit dysfunction may be a mechanism underlying the therapeutic effect of EA on chronic pain-induced anxiety-like behaviors.

OBJECTIVE: This study was designed to investigate the therapeutic potential of regulated negative pressure wound therapy (RNPT) in treating infected blast injuries in swine. BACKGROUND: Approximately 30% to 80% of blast injuries develop infection, which increases the morbidity and mortality of these casualties. RNPT has been used in US military operations in Iraq; however, no randomized controlled study has been conducted on the use of RNPT to treat infected war injuries. METHODS: Infected soft tissue blast injuries were treated with gauze dressings or RNPT with different pressures ranging from -5 to -35 kPa. To evaluate the wound healing process, the wound area, wound depth, the number of proliferative cells, and the vascular endothelial cells in the granulation tissue were measured at different time points. Furthermore, to evaluate the infection and inflammation of the blast injury, the bacterial load, bacterial species, and several inflammatory markers were detected. RESULTS: Compared with gauze dressing treatments, RNPT reduced bacterial load more efficiently, initiated granulation tissue formation earlier, and increased the inflammation faster. Negative pressures ranging from -10 to -25 kPa applied on the RNPT group showed beneficial effects in treating the infected soft tissue blast injury. RNPT did not significantly change both the aerobic and anaerobic bacterial composition compared with those of the gauze dressing group. CONCLUSIONS: RNPT clearly shows beneficial effects in treating the infected soft tissue blast injury in comparison with the gauze dressing therapy in swine.

AIM: To examine the changes in electrolyte concentrations after addition of zeolite-based hemostat QuikClot in blood and the effects of zeolite on blood coagulation in vitro. METHODS: Fresh blood was taken from healthy adult volunteers and sheep, and the electrolyte concentrations in blood were measured using a blood electrolyte analyzer. Zeolite Saline Solution (ZSS) was prepared by addition of 2 g zeolite to 0.9% NaCl solution (4, 8, or 16 mL). The electrolytes in ZSS were measured using inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy. The prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) of blood were measured using the test tube method. The activated clotting time (ACT) and clotting rate (CR) of blood were measured with Sonoclot Coagulation and Platelet Function Analyzer. RESULTS: Addition of zeolite (50 and 100 mg) in 2 mL human blood significantly increased Ca(2+) concentration, while Na(+) and K(+) concentrations were significantly decreased. Addition of zeolite (50 and 100 mg) in 0.9% NaCl solution (2 mL) caused similar changes in Ca(2+) and Na(+) concentrations. Si(4+) (0.2434 g/L) and Al(3+) (0.2575 g/L) were detected in ZSS (2 g/8 mL). Addition of ZSS in sheep blood shortened APTT in a concentration dependent manner, without changing PT. ZSS or aqueous solution of CaCl2 that contained Ca(2+) concentration identical to that of ZSS significantly shortened ACT in human blood without significantly changing CR, and the effect of ZSS on ACT was not significantly different from that of CaCl2. CONCLUSION: Zeolite releases Ca(2+) into blood, thus accelerating the intrinsic pathway of blood coagulation and shortening the clot formation time.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupuncture on thalamic pain after stroke. METHODS: The self-established database was searched from 8 Chinese and English databases to June 2022, and the randomized controlled trials articles on the comparative treatment of thalamic pain after stroke with acupuncture were included. That visual analog scale, present pain intensity score, pain rating index, the total efficiency, and adverse reactions were mainly used to evaluate the outcomes. RESULTS: A total of 11 papers were included. Meta-analysis showed that acupuncture appeared to be more effective than drugs for treatment of thalamic pain, as assessed by the visual analog scale [mean difference (MD) = -1.06, 95% confidence interval (CI) (-1.20, -0.91), P < .00001], the present pain intensity score [MD = -0.27, 95% CI (-0.43, -0.11), P = .001], the pain rating index [MD = -1.02, 95% CI (-1.41, -0.63), P < .00001], and the total efficiency [risk ratio = 1.31, 95% CI (1.22,1.41), P < .00001]. Meta-analysis results show that there is no significant difference in safety between acupuncture and drug therapy [risk ratio = 0.50, 95% CI (0.30,0.84), P = .009]. CONCLUSION: Studies have shown that acupuncture in the treatment of thalamic pain is effective, and it does not prove to have a higher safety than drug treatment, therefore a large-scale multicenter randomized controlled trials study is needed to further prove.

The acupuncture treatment scheme contains several key elements including acupoint selection and prescription, duration of needle retention, treatment frequency, needling manipulation technique, etc. which have, in precision degree, an important influence on the clinical efficacy, and their precise determination needs the guidance of the dose-effect relationship of acupuncture stimulation. In the present article, we discuss the basic concept and content of the dose-effect relationship of acupuncture and analyze its relationship with the precise treatment scheme. The precision and standardization of clinical treatment scheme of acupuncture are definitely not the negation of rich clinical experience, but rather, they are the transcendence of rich clinical experience. The dose-effect relationship of acupuncture is the rule that the acupuncture effect changes with the quantitative change of each key element, and its main contents include: the dose-effect relationship of acupoint prescription, the dose-effect relationship of needling manipulation, and the time-effect relationship of acupuncture.

The regularity of acupoint-viscera correlation is a basic problem in the study of acupuncture and moxibustion. At present, there are two main theories of the regularities: (1) the law of acupoint effect determined by meridian circulation; (2) segmental dominance of acupoint effect. These two regularities belong to different paradigm systems, they are not complementary relations within the same conceptual system. Based on the evidence of clinical practice of acupuncture and moxibustion, combined with the research on biological mechanisms, this paper analyzed the objectivity and universality of the regularities of acupoint-visceral correlation. The law determined by meridian of acupoint effect does not manifests the universality guiding role in the clinical practice of modern acupuncture and moxibustion, which is obviously divorced from the needs of modern clinical practice. The segmental dominance of acupoint effect has been strongly supported by the clinical practice of modern acupuncture and moxibustion, which is highly consistent with the clinical practice. The regularity of acupoint effect needs to be tested and re-identified in practice.

Objective: This study aims to explore formula patterns and application rules for SP6 as the main acupoint in prescriptions, utilizing association rules. Methods: We conducted an extensive search in databases including China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang Data Knowledge Service Platform (CDDB), China Science and Technology Journal Database (CSTJ), PubMed and Web of Science databases for literature published between January 2013 and June 2023, focusing on acupuncture prescriptions with SP6 as the main acupoint for various diseases. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied for literature screening. Relevant data was extracted, creating a database. Acupoints in conjunction with SP6 were analyzed using SPSS Modeler 18.0 and Cytoscape 3.7.2 software for acupoints appearing ≥15 times. Gephi software constructed a complex network model. The frequency of acupuncture points was analyzed to summarize the composition rules and clinical application rules of acupuncture points. Results: A total of 902 articles met inclusion criteria, yielding 672 prescriptions with SP6 as the main acupoint, paired with 197 different acupoints including ST36, CV4, and LI4. Neurological, obstetric, and gynecologic, as well as urological diseases, were predominantly treated. Among them, the predominant diseases include insomnia, primary dysmenorrhea, sequelae of stroke, and others, totaling 42 types. Conclusion: SP6-based prescriptions exhibit diverse applications, effectively treating insomnia, post-stroke sequelae, and primary dysmenorrhea. Commonly paired acupoints belong to Conception Vessel, Stomach meridian of foot-yangming, and Governor Vessel, and there are certain rules in their composition.

OBJECTIVE: To study whether electroacupuncture (EA) of "Zusanli" (ST36) combined with "Tianshu" (ST25) has a synergistic effect in regulating the colonic function and autonomic nerve balance in rats with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). METHODS: Male Wistar rats were randomly divided into control, model, EA-ST36, and EA-ST36+ST25 groups, with 14 rats in each group. The IBS model was established by using water avoidance stress method. The visceral hypersensitivity was measured using the abdominal wall retraction reflex (AWR). The rectus abdominis electromyogram (EMG), intestinal electrical activity, and electrocardiogram (ECG) were recorded using a PowerLab data acquisition and analysis system. The contents of serum cAMP and cGMP were determined by ELISA, the expression levels of colonic tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) and choline acetyl-transferase (ChAT) proteins were determined by immunofluorescence staining and Western blot, respectively. RESULTS: Compared with the control group, the model group had an evident increase in the levels of AWR, LF, LF/HF, ChAT protein expression, cAMP and cGMP contents and cAMP/cGMP ratio (P<0.001, P<0.05), and a marked decrease in the levels of HF, frequency of slow waves of intestinal EMG, visceral pain threshold (PT), immunoactivity and expression of TH protein (P<0.05, P<0.001). In contrast to the model group, the levels of AWR, LF, LF/HF, ChAT protein expression and immunoactivity, cAMP and cGMP contents and ratio of cAMP/cGMP were significantly reduced (P<0.001, P<0.05, P<0.01), whereas the levels of frequency of slow waves of intestinal EMG, PT, and the immunoactivity and expression of TH were considerably increased (P<0.001, P<0.05) in both EA-ST36 and EA-ST36+ST25 groups. CONCLUSION: EA of both ST36 and ST36+ST25 can relieve visceral pain, and reduce sympathetic activity to improve autonomic nerve balance, but without apparent synergistic effect between EA-ST36 and EA-ST25 in rats with IBS.

For more than half a century,the modern bioresearch in acupuncture has made remarkable advancements, proving scientific basis underlying the traditional, intuitive treatment, as well as leading to some new discoveries with the potential to enhance the effectiveness of acupuncture as we know it. Meanwhile, the clinical researches have started to shift its paradigm from traditional individual observation to modern evidence-based medicine. However, there is little interaction between basic and clinic researches, which are like two separate worlds, not benefiting each other. Also the education and training of acupuncture are still traditional style, little combining with modern studies. To bridging the large gap, we need translational science involving in. In this article, with a critical reviews of the limitations of the traditional methods of acupuncture, the challenges faced by clinic practices and placebo-control studies, and the advantages and disadvantages of basic research, we propose a methodological paradigm of the translational research, Translational Acupuncture Research Spectrum, that meets the current situation of acupuncture researches, hoping to give insights into this field and to promote modern acupuncture to move towards a new stage.

Under the situation of the rapid expansion of hospital, the dilemma of acupuncture-moxibustion department, as well as the relevant solutions are explored. The main reasons for the shrinking situation of the service in acupuncture-moxibustion department include: the disease-based department division trends to divert many diseases suitably treated in acupuncture-moxibustion department; the environment pursuing economic benefits restricts the development of acupuncture-moxibustion therapy characterized by "simple and low-cost operation". There are three important approaches for breaking through the dilemma of acupuncture and moxibustion therapy. First, modifying the traditional service mode as waiting for patients in acupuncture-moxibustion department and promoting acupuncture and moxibustion technology to be adopted in other departments rather than limited only in acupuncture-moxibustion department. Second, increasing the charges of acupuncture and moxibustion technology rationally. Third, positioning accurately the role of acupuncture and moxibustion technology in health services based on its own characteristics and advantages and promoting it in community medical institutions. All of these solutions require the guidance of supporting policies.

RESUMO

The process of acupuncture internationalization includes two basic stages: pre-internationalization period and post-internationalization period. The former is mainly characterized by unidirectional export led by China, while other countries and regions are mainly learning and absorbing. The latter is manifested by the localization transformation and development of acupuncture in foreign countries, which brings severe challenges to traditional Chinese acupuncture. It is helpful to grasp the international trend of acupuncture development by actively understanding the trajectory of acupuncture internationalization. To effectively cope with the challenges brought by the post-internationalization period, modern acupuncture is needed to be developed proactively. Only by establishing a modern acupuncture system compatible with modern science, can China continue to lead the international acupuncture academic development.

The use of acupuncture to treat stable angina pectoris is increasing popularity. Based on the prevalence of this treatment over the past 20 years, the rule of acupoint selection and prescription were summarized in this study. The China National Knowledge Infrastructure, China Academic Journal Database, Chinese Science and Technology Periodical Database, PubMed and Web of Science were used for literature search clinical studies on acupuncture in the treatment of stable angina pectoris conducted over the past 20 years were identified, 225 studies were included. Prescriptions were entered into the Traditional Chinese Medicine heritage calculation platform and association rule analysis and complex entropy clustering analysis were performed. Of the sixty-seven acupoints were regularly used and PC6, BL15 and RN17 were the most common. Commonly used meridians were the foot sun bladder meridian, Renmai and hand Shaoyin pericardium meridian; Get the basic prescription of PC6, RN17 and BL15and have two new prescriptions: BL15, ST36 and GB39; DU10, DU11 and RN17. All acupoints act on the heart through neural regulation mechanism. There are many clinical practice guidelines worldwide for writing acupuncture into the recommended therapy. Acupuncture has a clear therapeutic effect on stable angina pectoris. In the treatment of stable angina pectoris, all acupoints directly or indirectly act on the heart, dredge meridians and relieve angina symptoms.

BACKGROUND: Since the outbreak of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, although it has had a serious impact on people's lives and health in itself, the sequelae that accompany coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have also had a serious impact on people's mental health and quality of life. Taste disorder (TD) is one of the sequelae of COVID-19. Patients may experience reduced or even absent taste sensation, which seriously affects their real life. The efficacy of acupuncture in the treatment of taste disorders has been well reported, but there is a lack of evidence-based medical evidence. Therefore, this study set out to systematically evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupuncture in the treatment of post-COVID-19 taste disorder. METHODS: According to the retrieval strategies, randomized controlled trials on the acupuncture for COVID-19 TD were obtained from Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Embase, PubMed, Web of Science, the Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, the Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, the Chinese Scientific Journal Database and the Wanfang Database, regardless of publication date, or language. Studies were screened based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, and the Cochrane risk bias assessment tool was used to evaluate the quality of the studies. The meta-analysis was performed using Review Manager (RevMan 5.4) and StataSE 15.0 software. Ultimately, the evidentiary grade for the results will be evaluated. This systematic evaluation protocol is registered in PROSPERO under the registration ID CRD42022364653. RESULTS: The results of this meta-analysis will be submitted to a peer-reviewed journal for publication. CONCLUSION: This meta-analysis will evaluate the effect of acupuncture and moxibustion on TD caused by sequelae of COVID-19, providing evidence as to the treatment in these patients.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a chronic functional gastrointestinal disease characterized by abdominal pain and defecation disorders. Acupuncture therapy positively affects IBS, with ST25 being the main point. However, ST25 has mostly been used in conjunction with other acupoints. This study aimed to observe the therapeutic effect of electroacupuncture at ST25 alone in IBS and the neurobiological mechanism of ST25 associated with the colon. First, we observed the effect of electroacupuncture at ST25 on the visceral pain threshold and slow-wave discharge of the colon in IBS model rats. Second, we explored the neurobiological mechanism of ST25 associated with the colon using a neural tracer technique. The results showed that (1) electroacupuncture at ST25 alone can alleviate visceral hypersensitivity and restore normal slow-wave frequency and rhythm of the colon in IBS rats; (2) there is a close neuroanatomical connection between ST25 and the colon, i.e., in the dorsal root ganglion (DRG), ST25 is similar in innervation to the colon, mainly in the T8-L1 segment, while the presence of double-labeled positive neurons is present in a part of the DRG; retrogradely labeled motor neurons associated with ST25 were observed in the anterior horn of the spinal cord, and retrogradely labeled sympathetic postganglionic neurons associated with ST25 were observed in the sympathetic nerve chain. These findings suggested that the DRGs and the dorsal horn of the spinal cord are important targets for electroacupuncture at ST25 to reduce visceral hypersensitivity in IBS rats. The sympathetic ganglia may be an important site for ST25 to regulate intestinal motility. The neurobiological mechanism of ST25 action in IBS rats should be further investigated in the future by combining related techniques, such as pseudorabies virus, optogenetics, calcium imaging, and electrophysiology.

This paper analyzes the severe challenges posed by the localization process in the internationalization of Chinese acupuncture and moxibustion to Chinese traditional acupuncture and moxibustion, and the ways to deal with the challenges. It is believed that the lack of deep understanding of the challenges in the process of internationalization of acupuncture and moxibustion is mainly due to the lack of knowledge structure of acupuncture and moxibustion, and the innovation of acupuncture and moxibustion teaching materials is the basis of effectively adjusting the knowledge structure. The direction of the reform of acupuncture and moxibustion teaching materials should separate the modern version of acupuncture and moxibustion that conforms to the nature of science and teach it in parallel with the traditional version of acupuncture and moxibustion. The development of modern acupuncture and moxibustion in line with the nature of science is not only an urgent need to meet the challenges of western acupuncture and moxibustion, but also an internal requirement for the development of acupuncture and moxibustion itself.
