RESUMO

Wound complications after surgery for ankle fractures can lead to catastrophic consequences. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the risk factors of postoperative wound complications in patients with ankle fracture and to determine their effects on prognosis. 200 patients with ankle fracture treated in our hospital from October 2021 to December 2023 were analysed retrospectively. The total incidence of postoperative wound complications was 19% (38/200). Type of complications: wound edge necrosis 15 cases (39.47%), dehiscence (reopening of wound) 13 cases (34.21%), delayed healing (>30 days) 10 cases (26.32%); Univariate analysis showed that patients' age, body mass index (BMI), current smoking, alcoholism, diabetes mellitus, injury mechanism, open fracture, wound classification, higher American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) score and operation time were all associated with postoperative wound complications. Multivariate Logistic regression model shows: age ≥60 years old OR3.671 (1.875-5.937), BMI OR1.198 (1.143-1.324), current smoking OR2.727 (1.251-5.602), alcoholism OR1.143 (1.034-1.267), complicated with diabetes OR2.763 (1.236-4.852), injury mechanism (high vs. low and medium energy) OR2.437 (1.238-4.786), open fracture OR1.943 (1.8262.139), wound classification (II vs. I) OR4.423 (1.73511.674), ASA score (III-IV vs. I-II) OR1.307 (1.113-2.194) was an independent risk factor for postoperative wound complications in patients with ankle fracture. Further, ROC curves showed that these nine independent influences had high accuracy and validity in predicting postoperative wound complications in patients with ankle fractures. In conclusion, independent risk factors for postoperative complications of ankle fracture were age >60 years, BMI, injury mechanism, open fracture, wound classification (II vs. I), ASA score, current smoking, and alcoholism. The wound classification (II vs. I) has the highest diagnostic value.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Compelling evidence has indicated a significant association between leukocyte mitochondrial DNA copy number (mtDNAcn) and prognosis of several malignancies in a cancer-specific manner. However, whether leukocyte mtDNAcn can predict the clinical outcome of breast cancer (BC) patients has not been well investigated. METHODS: The mtDNA copy number of peripheral blood leukocytes from 661 BC patients was measured using a Multiplex AccuCopy™Kit based on a multiplex fluorescence competitive PCR principle. Kaplan-Meier curves and Cox proportional hazards regression model were applied to investigate the association of mtDNAcn with invasive disease-free survival (iDFS), distant disease-free survival (DDFS), breast cancer special survival (BCSS), and overall survival (OS) of patients. The possible mtDNAcn-environment interactions were also evaluated by the Cox proportional hazard regression models. RESULTS: BC patients with higher leukocyte mtDNA-CN exhibited a significantly worse iDFS than those with lower leukocyte mtDNAcn (5-year iDFS: fully-adjusted model: HR = 1.433[95%CI 1.038-1.978], P = 0.028). Interaction analyses showed that mtDNAcn was significantly associated with hormone receptor status (adjusted p for interaction: 5-year BCSS: 0.028, 5-year OS: 0.022), so further analysis was mainly in the HR subgroup. Multivariate Cox regression analysis demonstrated that mtDNAcn was an independent prognostic factor for both BCSS and OS in HR-positive patients (HR+: 5-year BCSS: adjusted HR (aHR) = 2.340[95% CI 1.163-4.708], P = 0.017 and 5-year OS: aHR = 2.446 [95% CI 1.218-4.913], P = 0.011). CONCLUSIONS: For the first time, our study demonstrated that leukocyte mtDNA copy number might influence the outcome of early-stage breast cancer patients depending on intrinsic tumor subtypes in Chinese women.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) is a terminal type of advanced cancer resistant to androgen deprivation therapy (ADT). Due to the poor therapeutic response of CRPC, novel treatment strategies are urgently required. This study aimed to clarify the regulatory roles of the SOX2/Notch axis in CRPC. METHODS: For the evaluation of the SOX2, Notch, and Hey1 expression in the prostate cancer (PCa) and CRPC tissues, we conducted immunohistochemistry (IHC) analyses. RT-PCR, Western blotting, and immunofluorescence were performed to evaluate SOX2 and Notch expression in enzalutamide-resistant LNCaP cells (Enza-R). CCK-8, Transwell, Wound healing, and Western blotting assays were used to assess the viability, invasion, migration, cell cycle, and drug-resistant in Enza-R cells. RESULTS: Compared to the PCa tissues, CRPC tissues exhibited significantly elevated SOX2, Notch1, and Hey1 expression. SOX2-positive patients were more likely to develop bone metastases than SOX2-negative ones. Significant activation of the signaling associated with SOX2 and Notch was detected in Enza-R cells. The suppression of SOX2 clearly inactivated the Notch signaling and inhibited malignant behaviors, including proliferation, invasion, migration, and drug resistance in Enza-R cells. Theγsecretase inhibitor, GSI-IX, abrogated the enzalutamide resistance by inhibiting Notch signaling in vitro in vitro. Also, GSI-IX alone had a significant anti-tumor effect in Enza-R cells. CONCLUSION: We demonstrated that SOX2/Notch signaling was responsible for Enzalutamide resistance in CRPC. Targeting SOX2/Notch signaling might represent a new choice for the treatment and therapy of CRPC.

RESUMO

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are secreted by various tissues and cells under normal physiological or pathological conditions. Exercise-induced EVs may be involved in the adaptation of exercise-induced fatigue. The 1500-m freestyle is the longest pool-based swimming event in the Olympic Games, and there is a paucity of information regarding changes in the miRNA profiles of circulating EVs after a single session of fatiguing swimming. In this study, 13 male freestyle swimmers conducted a fatiguing 1500-m freestyle swimming session at the speed of their best previously recorded swimming performance. Fasting venous blood was collected before and after the swimming session for analysis. 70 miRNAs from the circulating EVs were found to be differentially expressed after the fatiguing 1500-m freestyle swimming session, among which 45 and 25 miRNAs were up-regulated and down-regulated, respectively. As for the target genes of five miRNAs (miR-144-3p, miR-145-3p, miR-509-5p, miR-891b, and miR-890) with the largest expression-fold variation, their functional enrichment analysis demonstrated that the target genes were involved in the regulation of long-term potentiation (LTP), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), glutathione metabolism pathway, dopaminergic synapse, signal transmission, and other biological processes. In summary, these findings reveal that a single session of fatiguing swimming modifies the miRNAs profiles of the circulating EVs, especially miR-144-3p, miR-145-3p, miR-509-5p, miR-891b, and miR-890, which clarifies new mechanisms for the adaptation to a single session of fatiguing exercise from the perspective of EV-miRNAs.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The debate on whether to choose a transperitoneal (TP) or retroperitoneal (RP) approach for treating upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) with laparoscopic surgery has been drawing attention. This study aimed to systematically review and meta-analyze the existing evidence regarding oncologic and perioperative outcomes of transperitoneal laparoscopic radical nephroureterectomy (TLNU) and retroperitoneal laparoscopic radical nephroureterectomy (RLNU) in managing UTUC. METHODS: A comprehensive literature search was conducted using PubMed, Scopus, Embase, and Google Scholar for identifying randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and observational studies that evaluated the outcomes of TLNU and RLNU for UTUC. Continuous variables were represented by weighted mean difference (WMD) and standard mean difference (SMD), while binary variables were represented by odds ratio (OR), with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). The quality was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa scale. A sensitivity analysis was performed to evaluate the robustness of the estimates. RESULT: Six observational studies were incorporated into this meta-analysis. The overall TLNU was associated with significantly shorter operating time (WMD - 19.85; 95% CI - 38.03 to - 1.68; P = 0.03); longer recovery time of intestinal function (SMD 0.46; 95% CI 0.08 to 0.84; P = 0.02). However, the terms of estimated blood loss (WMD - 5.72; 95% CI - 19.6 to - 8.15; P = 0.42); length of stay (WMD - 0.35; 95% CI - 1.61 to 0.91; P = 0.59), visual analog pain scale (WMD - 0.38; 95% CI - 0.99 to 0.84; P = 0.22); drainage duration (WMD - 0.22; 95% CI - 0.61 to 0.17; P = 0.26); overall complication rates (OR 1.24; 95% CI 0.58 to 2.63; P = 0.58); local recurrence rate (OR 0.6; 95% CI 0.3 to 1.21; P = 0.16); distant metastasis (OR 0.94; 95% CI 0.04 to 20.77; P = 0.97); 1-year overall survival (OS) (OR 0.45; 95% CI 0.1 to 2.01; P = 0.3) showed no difference between TLNU and RLUN. CONCLUSION: TLNU provides similar surgical outcomes and oncologic results compared to RLUN; however, TLNU has a shorter procedure time and prolonged intestinal function recovery time. Due to the heterogeneity among the studies, randomized clinical trials with follow-ups in the long term are required to obtain more definite results. RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Inflammatory response of human vascular smooth muscle cells (hVSMCs) is a driving factor in hypertension progression. It has been reported that miR-3646 was significantly up-regulated in serum samples from patients with coronary artery disease and acute myocardial infarction mice. However, its role and underlying molecular mechanism related to inflammatory response of angiotensin II (Ang II)-induced hVSMCs remain unclear. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to explore the potential molecular mechanisms related to inflammatory response of angiotensin II (Ang II)-induced hVSMCs. METHODS: Ang II-induced hypertension model was established after hVSMCs treated with 1 µM Ang II at 24 h. The interaction between microRNA 3646 (miR-3646) and cytochrome P450 2J2 (CYP2J2) was assessed by dual-luciferase reporter gene assay. MTS assay, Lipid Peroxidation MDA Assay Kit, ELISA, Western blot, and qRT-PCR were performed to examine viability, malondialdehyde (MDA) level, inflammatory cytokine levels, and the level of genes and proteins. RESULTS: Our findings illustrated that miR-3646 was up-regulated but CYP2J2 was down-regulated in Ang II-induced hVSMCs. Mechanically, miR-3646 negatively targeted to CYP2J2 in Ang II-induced hVSMCs. These findings indicated that miR-3646 regulated inflammatory response of Ang II-induced hVSMCs via targeting CYP2J2. Moreover, functional researches showed that CYP2J2 overexpression alleviated inflammatory response of Ang II-induced hVSMCs via epoxyeicosatrienoic acids/peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ (EETs/PPARγ) axis, and miR-3646 aggravated inflammatory response of Ang II-induced hVSMCs via mediating CYP2J2/EETs axis. CONCLUSION: MiR-3646 accelerated inflammatory response of Ang II-induced hVSMCs via CYP2J2/EETs axis. Our findings illustrated the specific molecular mechanism of miR-3646 regulating hypertension.

RESUMO

Research on topological physics of phonons has attracted enormous interest but demands appropriate model materials. Our ab initio calculations identify silicon as an ideal candidate material containing extraordinarily rich topological phonon states. In silicon, we identify various topological nodal lines characterized by quantized Berry phase π, which gives drumhead surface states observable from any surface orientations. Remarkably, a novel type of topological nexus phonon is discovered which is featured by double Fermi-arc-like surface states but requires neither inversion nor time-reversal symmetry breaking. Versatile topological states can be created from the nexus phonons, such as Hopf nodal links by strain. Furthermore, we generalize the symmetry analysis to other centrosymmetric systems and find numerous candidate materials, demonstrating the ubiquitous existence of topological phonons in solids. These findings open up new opportunities for studying topological phonons in realistic materials and their influence on surface physics.

RESUMO

The quality of tests in psychological and educational assessment is of great scholarly and public interest. Item difficulty models are vital to generating test result interpretations based on evidence. A major determining factor of item difficulty in knowledge tests is the opportunity to learn about the facts and concepts in question. Knowledge is mainly conveyed through language. Exposure to language associated with facts and concepts might be an indicator of the opportunity to learn. Thus, we hypothesize that item difficulty in knowledge tests should be related to the probability of exposure to the item content in everyday life and/or academic settings and therefore also to word frequency. Results from a study with 99 political knowledge test items administered to N = 250 German seventh (age: 11-14 years) and tenth (age: 15-18 years) graders showed that word frequencies in everyday settings (SUBTLEX-DE) explain variance in item difficulty, while word frequencies in academic settings (dlexDB) alone do not. However, both types of word frequency combined explain a considerable amount of the variance in item difficulty. Items with words that are more frequent in both settings and, in particular, relatively frequent in everyday settings are easier. High word frequencies and relatively higher word frequency in everyday settings could be associated with higher probability of exposure, conceptual complexity, and better readability of item content. Examining word frequency from different language settings can help researchers investigate test score interpretations and is a useful tool for predicting item difficulty and refining knowledge test items.

RESUMO

Solution processable flexible transparent electrodes (FTEs) are urgently needed to boost the efficiency and mechanical stability of flexible organic solar cells (OSCs) on a large scale. However, how to balance the optoelectronic properties and meanwhile achieve robust mechanical behavior of FTEs is still a huge challenge. Silver nanowire (AgNW) electrodes, exhibiting easily tuned optoelectronic/mechanical properties, are attracting considerable attention, but their poor contacts at the junction site of the AgNWs increase the sheet resistance and reduce mechanical stability. In this study, an ionic liquid (IL)-type reducing agent containing Cl- and a dihydroxyl group was employed to control the reduction process of silver (Ag) in AgNW-based FTEs precisely. The Cl- in the IL regulates the Ag+ concentration through the formation and dissolution of AgCl, whereas the dihydroxyl group slowly reduces the released Ag+ to form metal Ag. The reduced Ag grew in situ at the junction site of the AgNWs in a twin-crystal growth mode, facilitating an atomic-level contact between the AgNWs and the reduced Ag. This enforced atomic-level contact decreased the sheet resistance, and enhanced the mechanical stability of the FTEs. As a result, the single-junction flexible OSCs based on this chemically welded FTE achieved record power conversion efficiencies of 17.52% (active area: 0.062 cm2) and 15.82% (active area: 1.0 cm2). These flexible devices also displayed robust bending and peeling durability even under extreme test conditions.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Cytidine nucleotide triphosphate synthase 1 (CTPS1) is a CTP synthase which play critical roles in DNA synthesis. However, its biological regulation and mechanism in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) has not been reported yet. METHODS: The expression of CTPS1 in TNBC tissues was determined by GEO, TCGA databases and immunohistochemistry (IHC). The effect of CTPS1 on TNBC cell proliferation, migration, invasion, apoptosis and tumorigenesis were explored in vivo and in vitro. In addition, the transcription factor Y-box binding protein 1 (YBX1) was identified by bioinformatics methods, dual luciferase reporter and chromatin immunoprecipitation (CHIP) assays. Pearson correlation analysis was utilized to assess the association between YBX1 and CTPS1 expression. RESULTS: CTPS1 expression was significantly upregulated in TNBC tissues and cell lines. Higher CTPS1 expression was correlated with a poorer disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) in TNBC patients. Silencing of CTPS1 dramatically inhibited the proliferation, migration, invasion ability and induced apoptosis of MDA-MB-231 and HCC1937 cells. Xenograft tumor model also indicated that CTPS1 knockdown remarkably reduced tumor growth in mice. Mechanically, YBX1 could bind to the promoter of CTPS1 to promote its transcription. Furthermore, the expression of YBX1 was positively correlated with CTPS1 in TNBC tissues. Rescue experiments confirmed that the enhanced cell proliferation and invasion ability induced by YBX1 overexpression could be reversed by CTPS1 knockdown. CONCLUSION: Our data demonstrate that YBX1/CTPS1 axis plays an important role in the progression of TNBC. CTPS1 might be a promising prognosis biomarker and potential therapeutic target for patients with triple-negative breast cancer.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Bilateral breast cancer (BBC), as well as ovarian cancer, are significantly associated with germline deleterious variants in BRCA1/2, while BRCA1/2 germline deleterious variants carriers can exquisitely benefit from poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitors. However, formal genetic testing could not be carried out for all patients due to extensive use of healthcare resources, which in turn results in high medical costs. To date, existing BRCA1/2 deleterious variants prediction models have been developed in women of European or other descent who are quite genetically different from Asian population. Therefore, there is an urgent clinical need for tools to predict the frequency of BRCA1/2 deleterious variants in Asian BBC patients balancing the increased demand for and cost of cancer genetics services. METHODS: The entire coding region of BRCA1/2 was screened for the presence of germline deleterious variants by the next generation sequencing in 123 Chinese BBC patients. Chi-square test, univariate and multivariate logistic regression were used to assess the relationship between BRCA1/2 germline deleterious variants and clinicopathological characteristics. The R software was utilized to develop artificial neural network (ANN) and nomogram modeling for BRCA1/2 germline deleterious variants prediction. RESULTS: Among 123 BBC patients, we identified a total of 20 deleterious variants in BRCA1 (8; 6.5%) and BRCA2 (12; 9.8%). c.5485del in BRCA1 is novel frameshift deleterious variant. Deleterious variants carriers were younger at first diagnosis (P = 0.0003), with longer interval between two tumors (P = 0.015), at least one medullary carcinoma (P = 0.001), and more likely to be hormone receptor negative (P = 0.006) and HER2 negative (P = 0.001). Area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.903 in ANN and 0.828 in nomogram modeling individually (P = 0.02). CONCLUSION: This study shows the spectrum of the BRCA1/2 germline deleterious variants in Chinese BBC patients and indicates that the ANN can accurately predict BRCA deleterious variants than conventional statistical linear approach, which confirms the BRCA1/2 deleterious variants carriers at the lowest costs without adding any additional examinations.

RESUMO

Magnetoresistive materials are vital for the development of storage devices. Using the first-principles transport simulations with nonequilibrium Green's function calculation, we investigate the magnetoresistive properties of Ni/WSe2/Ni junctions withm-layers of WSe2(m= 1, 2, ⋯ ,6). Form≤ 2, the junctions are metallic inspite of the semiconducting nature of few-layer WSe2. However, the junctions exhibit transport gaps form> 2. Interestingly, magnetoresistance of the junctions stays around 6% when there are more than one layer of WSe2in the center, which is closely related to the robust spacial variation of interfacial properties and can be attributed to no spin flipping in tunneling regions. Our results suggest that Ni/WSe2/Ni junctions have a robust magnetoresistance which is insensitive to the thickness of WSe2.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Various methods are used to reconstruct the skull after microvascular decompression, giving their own advantages and disadvantages. The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of using autologous bone fragments for skull reconstruction after microvascular decompression. METHODS: The clinical and follow-up data of 145 patients who underwent microvascular decompression and skull reconstruction using autologous bone fragments in our hospital from September 2020 to September 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. RESULTS: Three patients (2.06%) had delayed wound healing after surgery and were discharged after wound cleaning. No patient developed postoperative cerebrospinal fluid leakage, incisional dehiscence, or intracranial infection. Eighty-five (58.62%) patients underwent follow-up cranial computed tomography at 1 year postoperatively, showed excellent skull reconstruction. And, the longer the follow-up period, the more satisfactory the cranial repair. Two patients underwent re-operation for recurrence of hemifacial spasm, and intraoperative observation revealed that the initial skull defect was filled with new skull bone. CONCLUSION: The use of autologous bone fragments for skull reconstruction after microvascular decompression is safe and feasible, with few postoperative wound complications and excellent long-term repair results.

RESUMO

In this work, we demonstrate that the nonsuperconducting single-layer FeTe can become superconducting when its structure is properly tuned by epitaxially growing it on Bi2Te3 thin films. The properties of the single-layer FeTe deviate strongly from its bulk counterpart, as evidenced by the emergence of a large superconductivity gap (3.3 meV) and an apparent 8 × 2 superlattice (SL). Our first-principles calculations indicate that the 8 × 2 SL and the emergence of the novel superconducting phase are essentially the result of the structural change in FeTe due to the presence of the underlying Bi2Te3 layer. The structural change in FeTe likely suppresses the antiferromagnetic order in the FeTe and leads to superconductivity. Our work clearly demonstrates that moiré pattern engineering in a heterostructure is a reachable dimension for investigating novel materials and material properties.

RESUMO

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) regulate a series of biological processes, and their anomalous expression exerts critical roles in progression of multiple malignancies, including colorectal cancer (CRC). The present study was designed to provide new ideas and perspectives for the role of lncRNA MCF2L-AS1 and disclose the underlying mechanism in CRC. Herein, we observed that MCF2L-AS1 expression was enriched in CRC tissues and cell lines. Additionally, silencing of MCF2L-AS1 dramatically impeded cell proliferation, invasion and migration capacities of CRC, and distinctly attenuated the expression of invasion associated targets MMP-2 and MMP-9. Moreover, depletion of MCF2L-AS1 apparently restricted the glucose consumption and lactate production, and downregulated GLUT1 and LDHA expression. More importantly, we predicted and verified that MCF2L-AS1 acted as a molecular sponge for miR-874-3p and inversely regulated miR-874-3p expression. Interesting, FOXM1 was identified as direct target of miR-874-3p, and positively modulated by MCF2L-AS1 through sponging miR-874-3p. Mechanistically, MCF2L-AS1 accelerated cell proliferation, invasion and glycolysis through competitively binding to miR-874-3p, leading to enhance FOXM1 expression. Collectively, these outcomes highlighted that MCF2L-AS1 acted as a motivator by modulating the miR-874-3p/FOXM1 axis, thereby aggravating tumorigenesis and glycolysis progress of CRC, disclosing that MCF2L-AS1 may serve as a valuable and promising therapeutic strategy for CRC.

RESUMO

In this study, the biodegradation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in soil washing solution containing Tween 80 was conducted using native mixed bacteria (Pseudomonas sp. Z1, Sphingobacterium sp. Z2, and Klebsiella sp. K) embedded in polyvinyl alcohol-sodium alginate-nano alumina (PVA-SA-ALNPs) gel beads. The optimal dosage of immobilized beads and embedded biomass for the biodegradation of phenanthrene (PHE), fluoranthene (FLU), and pyrene (PYR) were 10 % (v/v) and 20 % (v/v), respectively. SEM analysis showed that the porous structure of the immobilized beads was a cross-linked network with abundant pores that provided many potential adhesion sites for microorganisms. The beads with the immobilized mixed bacteria maintained a high activity during batch experiments and could even be reused for 3 cycles (90 d). Compared with the beads containing individual immobilized strain, the immobilized mixed bacteria showed a more efficient biodegradation of PHE (91.67 %), FLU (88.6 %), and PYR (88.5 %) in synthetic soil washing effluent within 30 d. The first-order kinetic model suitably described the degradation process of the three target PAHs. By adding Tween 80 to the synthetic eluent, the degradation of PHE, FLU, and PYR increased by 16.39 %, 22.25 %, and 21.29 %, respectively, indicating that Tween 80 promoted PAHs biodegradation, even though it was also rapidly degraded during the reaction cycle. These findings suggest that the developed mixed bacteria embedded in PVA-SA-ALNPs gel beads has great potential for PAHs remediation.

RESUMO

Clause subordination is an important linguistic phenomenon that is relevant to research in psycholinguistics, cognitive and behavioral sciences, language acquisition, and computational information retrieval. The paper presents a comprehensive tool called AutoSubClause, which is specifically designed for extracting subordinate clause (SC) information from natural English production. Using dependency parsing, AutoSubClause is able to extract not only information characterizing the three main types of SCs-complement, adverbial, and relative clauses-but also information regarding the internal structure of different clause types and their semantic and structural relations with elements of the main clause. Robustness testing of the system and its underlying dependency parser Stanford CoreNLP showed satisfactory results. To demonstrate the usefulness of AutoSubClause, we used it to analyze a large-scale learner corpus and investigate the effects of first language (L1) on the acquisition of subordination in second language (L2) English. Our analysis shows that learners from an L1 that is typologically different from the L2 in clause subordination tend to have different developmental trajectories from those whose L1 is typologically similar to the L2. Furthermore, the developmental patterns for different types of SCs also vary. This finding suggests the need to approach clausal subordination as a multi-componential construct rather than a unitary one, as is the case in most previous research. Finally, we demonstrate how NLP technology can support research questions that rely on linguistic analysis across various disciplines and help gain new insights with the increasing opportunities for up-scaled analysis.

RESUMO

To develop a survival time prediction model for patients with ovarian serous cystadenocarcinoma after surgery. A retrospective analysis of 5906 postoperative patients with ovarian serous cystadenocarcinoma in the surveillance, epidemiology, and end results (SEER) database from 2010 to 2015 was performed. The independent risk factors for long-term survival were analyzed with multivariate Cox proportional hazard regression model. The nomogram of 3-year and 5-year survival was developed by using R language. The receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve and were used to test the discrimination of the model and the calibration diagram was used to evaluate the degree of calibration of the prediction model. The survival curves was conducted by the risk factors. Cox proportional hazard regression model showed that age, race, histological grade (poorly differentiated and undifferentiated), stage T (T2a, T2b, T2c, T3a, T3b and T3c), and stage M (M1) were independent factors for the prognosis of patients with ovarian serous cystadenocarcinoma after surgery. A nomogram was developed by the R language tool for predicting the 3-year and survival of patients through age, race, histological classification, stage T and stage M. The C-index was 0.688 and the areas under ROC curve of the nomogram for predicting 3-year and 5-year survival were 0.708 and 0.716, respectively. The results of the calibration indicated that the predicted values were consistent with the actual values in the prediction models. The survival time of patients with high-risk factors was shorter than that of patients with low-risk factors (<0.05). The developed nomogram in this study can be used to predict 3-year and 5-year survival of postoperative patients with ovarian serous cystadenocarcinoma, and it may be beneficial to guide clinical treatment.

RESUMO

Syndemic factors tend to co-occur and increase the risks of condomless anal intercourse (CAI), multiple sexual partners (MSP) and HIV vulnerability among men who have sex with men (MSM). This study aimed to test the synergistic effects of syndemic factors on HIV risk and to further explore the moderators between syndemics and HIV risk among Chinese MSM. A cross-sectional study was conducted to recruit MSM in Guangzhou to collect data on syndemic factors (depression, intimate partner violence, childhood sexual abuse [CSA], alcohol, and rush popper use before anal sex). The relative excess risk due to interactions (RERIs) was calculated to test the synergy in adjusted regression models. A moderated analysis was conducted to test the buffer effects of potential resilience factors (education and income). Among the 976 included MSM, individuals experiencing more syndemic factors were more likely to have CAI (odds ratio [OR]= 1.26, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.11-1.44), MSP (OR= 1.33, 95% CI 1.16-1.52), and HIV infection (OR= 1.46, 95% CI 1.12-1.90). RERIs showed a synergy of depression and rush popper use prior to sex for MSP (1.17, 95% CI 0.03-2.03) and CSA and rush popper use prior to sex for HIV infection (1.72, 95% CI 0.05-3.43). However, no significant association was found for the interaction between the number of syndemic factors and education or income. Our findings support the synergy approach in syndemic studies and highlight the need for comprehensive and multifactorial intervention strategies on sexual health of MSM. Future studies are needed to identify potential resilience factors among Chinese MSM.
