RESUMO

Modern retrosynthetic analysis in organic chemistry is based on the principle of polar relationships between functional groups to guide the design of synthetic routes1. This method, termed polar retrosynthetic analysis, assigns partial positive (electrophilic) or negative (nucleophilic) charges to constituent functional groups in complex molecules followed by disconnecting bonds between opposing charges2-4. Although this approach forms the basis of undergraduate curriculum in organic chemistry5 and strategic applications of most synthetic methods6, the implementation often requires a long list of ancillary considerations to mitigate chemoselectivity and oxidation state issues involving protecting groups and precise reaction choreography3,4,7. Here we report a radical-based Ni/Ag-electrocatalytic cross-coupling of substituted carboxylic acids, thereby enabling an intuitive and modular approach to accessing complex molecular architectures. This new method relies on a key silver additive that forms an active Ag nanoparticle-coated electrode surface8,9 in situ along with carefully chosen ligands that modulate the reactivity of Ni. Through judicious choice of conditions and ligands, the cross-couplings can be rendered highly diastereoselective. To demonstrate the simplifying power of these reactions, concise syntheses of 14 natural products and two medicinally relevant molecules were completed.

O-glycosylation is a conserved posttranslational modification that impacts many aspects of organismal viability and function. Recent studies examining the glycosyltransferase Galnt11 demonstrated that it glycosylates the endocytic receptor megalin in the kidneys, enabling proper binding and reabsorption of ligands, including vitamin D-binding protein (DBP). Galnt11-deficient mice were unable to properly reabsorb DBP from the urine. Vitamin D plays an essential role in mineral homeostasis and its deficiency is associated with bone diseases such as rickets, osteomalacia, and osteoporosis. We therefore set out to examine the effects of the loss of Galnt11 on vitamin D homeostasis and bone composition. We found significantly decreased levels of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D, consistent with decreased reabsorption of DBP. This was accompanied by a significant reduction in blood calcium levels and a physiologic increase in parathyroid hormone (PTH) in Galnt11-deficient mice. Bones in Galnt11-deficient mice were smaller and displayed a decrease in cortical bone accompanied by an increase in trabecular bone and an increase in a marker of bone formation, consistent with PTH-mediated effects on bone. These results support a unified model for the role of Galnt11 in bone and mineral homeostasis, wherein loss of Galnt11 leads to decreased reabsorption of DBP by megalin, resulting in a cascade of disrupted mineral and bone homeostasis including decreased circulating vitamin D and calcium levels, a physiological increase in PTH, an overall loss of cortical bone, and an increase in trabecular bone. Our study elucidates how defects in O-glycosylation can influence vitamin D and mineral homeostasis and the integrity of the skeletal system.

BACKGROUND: Vascular calcification causes significant morbidity and occurs frequently in diseases of calcium/phosphate imbalance. Radiolabeled sodium fluoride positron emission tomography/computed tomography has emerged as a sensitive and specific method for detecting and quantifying active microcalcifications. We developed a novel technique to quantify and map total vasculature microcalcification to a common space, allowing simultaneous assessment of global disease burden and precise tracking of site-specific microcalcifications across time and individuals. METHODS: To develop this technique, 4 patients with hyperphosphatemic familial tumoral calcinosis, a monogenic disorder of FGF23 (fibroblast growth factor-23) deficiency with a high prevalence of vascular calcification, underwent radiolabeled sodium fluoride positron emission tomography/computed tomography imaging. One patient received serial imaging 1 year after treatment with an IL-1 (interleukin-1) antagonist. A radiolabeled sodium fluoride-based microcalcification score, as well as calcification volume, was computed at all perpendicular slices, which were then mapped onto a standardized vascular atlas. Segment-wise mCSmean and mCSmax were computed to compare microcalcification score levels at predefined vascular segments within subjects. RESULTS: Patients with hyperphosphatemic familial tumoral calcinosis had notable peaks in microcalcification score near the aortic bifurcation and distal femoral arteries, compared with a control subject who had uniform distribution of vascular radiolabeled sodium fluoride uptake. This technique also identified microcalcification in a 17-year-old patient, who had no computed tomography-defined calcification. This technique could not only detect a decrease in microcalcification score throughout the patient treated with an IL-1 antagonist but it also identified anatomic areas that had increased responsiveness while there was no change in computed tomography-defined macrocalcification after treatment. CONCLUSIONS: This technique affords the ability to visualize spatial patterns of the active microcalcification process in the peripheral vasculature. Further, this technique affords the ability to track microcalcifications at precise locations not only across time but also across subjects. This technique is readily adaptable to other diseases of vascular calcification and may represent a significant advance in the field of vascular biology.

Hindered ethers are of high value for various applications; however, they remain an underexplored area of chemical space because they are difficult to synthesize via conventional reactions1,2. Such motifs are highly coveted in medicinal chemistry, because extensive substitution about the ether bond prevents unwanted metabolic processes that can lead to rapid degradation in vivo. Here we report a simple route towards the synthesis of hindered ethers, in which electrochemical oxidation is used to liberate high-energy carbocations from simple carboxylic acids. These reactive carbocation intermediates, which are generated with low electrochemical potentials, capture an alcohol donor under non-acidic conditions; this enables the formation of a range of ethers (more than 80 have been prepared here) that would otherwise be difficult to access. The carbocations can also be intercepted by simple nucleophiles, leading to the formation of hindered alcohols and even alkyl fluorides. This method was evaluated for its ability to circumvent the synthetic bottlenecks encountered in the preparation of 12 chemical scaffolds, leading to higher yields of the required products, in addition to substantial reductions in the number of steps and the amount of labour required to prepare them. The use of molecular probes and the results of kinetic studies support the proposed mechanism and the role of additives under the conditions examined. The reaction manifold that we report here demonstrates the power of electrochemistry to access highly reactive intermediates under mild conditions and, in turn, the substantial improvements in efficiency that can be achieved with these otherwise-inaccessible intermediates.

Intravenous (i.v.) fluid therapy is critically important in pediatric kidney transplantation. Because of the high volumes given perioperatively, transplant recipients can develop significant electrolyte abnormalities depending on the types of fluids used. Current practices in pediatric transplantation aim to balance risks of hyponatremia from traditionally used hypotonic fluids, such as 0.45% sodium chloride, against hyperchloremia and acidosis associated with isotonic 0.9% sodium chloride. Using the balanced solution Plasma-Lyte 148 as an alternative might mitigate these risks.

BACKGROUND: Delayed graft function (DGF) is a major adverse complication of deceased donor kidney transplantation. Intravenous fluids are routinely given to patients receiving a transplant to maintain intravascular volume and optimise graft function. Saline (0·9% sodium chloride) is widely used but might increase the risk of DGF due to its high chloride content. We aimed to test our hypothesis that using a balanced low-chloride crystalloid solution (Plasma-Lyte 148) instead of saline would reduce the incidence of DGF. METHODS: BEST-Fluids was a pragmatic, registry-embedded, multicentre, double-blind, randomised, controlled trial at 16 hospitals in Australia and New Zealand. Adults and children of any age receiving a deceased donor kidney transplant were eligible; those receiving a multi-organ transplant or weighing less than 20 kg were excluded. Participants were randomly assigned (1:1) using an adaptive minimisation algorithm to intravenous balanced crystalloid solution (Plasma-Lyte 148) or saline during surgery and up until 48 h after transplantation. Trial fluids were supplied in identical bags and clinicians determined the fluid volume, rate, and time of discontinuation. The primary outcome was DGF, defined as receiving dialysis within 7 days after transplantation. All participants who consented and received a transplant were included in the intention-to-treat analysis of the primary outcome. Safety was analysed in all randomly assigned eligible participants who commenced surgery and received trial fluids, whether or not they received a transplant. This study is registered with Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry, (ACTRN12617000358347), and ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT03829488). FINDINGS: Between Jan 26, 2018, and Aug 10, 2020, 808 participants were randomly assigned to balanced crystalloid (n=404) or saline (n=404) and received a transplant (512 [63%] were male and 296 [37%] were female). One participant in the saline group withdrew before 7 days and was excluded, leaving 404 participants in the balanced crystalloid group and 403 in the saline group that were included in the primary analysis. DGF occurred in 121 (30%) of 404 participants in the balanced crystalloid group versus 160 (40%) of 403 in the saline group (adjusted relative risk 0·74 [95% CI 0·66 to 0·84; p<0·0001]; adjusted risk difference 10·1% [95% CI 3·5 to 16·6]). In the safety analysis, numbers of investigator-reported serious adverse events were similar in both groups, being reported in three (<1%) of 406 participants in the balanced crystalloid group versus five (1%) of 409 participants in the saline group (adjusted risk difference -0·5%, 95% CI -1·8 to 0·9; p=0·48). INTERPRETATION: Among patients receiving a deceased donor kidney transplant, intravenous fluid therapy with balanced crystalloid solution reduced the incidence of DGF compared with saline. Balanced crystalloid solution should be the standard-of-care intravenous fluid used in deceased donor kidney transplantation. We describe two cases of acquired parathyroid hormone (PTH) resistance consequent to the development of serum PTH type 1 receptor (PTH1R) autoantibodies, which block PTH binding and signaling. Both cases were associated with other autoimmune manifestations, and one case was associated with atypical membranous glomerulonephritis. In vitro binding and signaling assays identified the presence of PTH1R-blocking IgG autoantibodies, which were not present in serum samples from patients with other renal or autoimmune disorders. OBJECTIVE: To determine which components from a multidomain assessment best predict protracted recovery in pediatric patients with a concussion. STUDY DESIGN: A prospective cohort of patients aged 5-9 years who presented within 21 days of concussion to a specialty clinic were categorized into normal (≤30 days) and protracted (>30 days) recovery. Participants provided demographic and medical history information, and completed the Child Sport Concussion Assessment Tool-5 symptom report and balance assessment, the Vestibular/Ocular Motor Screen-Child (VOMS-C), and the Pediatric Immediate Post-concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing. Univariate logistic regressions (LR) were used to inform a follow-up forward stepwise LR to identify the best predictors of protracted recovery. Receiver operating characteristic analysis of the area under the curve (AUC) was used to identify which predictors retained from the LR model best discriminated recovery. RESULTS: The final sample included 68 patients (7.52 ± 2.3 years; 56% male), 36 (52.9%) with normal and 32 (47.1%) with protracted recovery. Results of the LR to identify protracted recovery were significant (P < .001) and accounted for 39% of the variance. The model accurately classified 78% of patients, with days to first clinic visit (OR, 1.2; 95% CI, 1.1-1.4; P = .003) and positive VOMS-C findings (OR, 8.32; 95% CI, 2.4-28.8; P < .001) as significant predictors. A receiver operating characteristic analysis of the AUC of this 2-factor model discriminated protracted from normal recovery (AUC, 0.82; 95% CI, 0.71-0.92; P < .001). CONCLUSIONS: Days to first clinic visit and positive findings on the VOMS-C were the most robust predictors of protracted recovery after concussion in young pediatric patients.

OBJECTIVES: To assess self-reported symptoms of neuropathy, disability, pain, health-related quality of life (HR-QOL), and autonomic dysfunction in patients with vasculitis. METHODS: Patients with vasculitis (with or without neuropathy) were invited by Vasculitis UK to complete an anonymous online survey. RESULTS: 312 patients (71% female) responded. Median age was 61-70 years. Median duration of vasculitis was 4 years (<2 months to > 15 years). Vasculitic types included granulomatosis with polyangiitis (34%), unspecified ANCA-associated vasculitis (13%), microscopic polyangiitis (11%), eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (11%), giant cell arteritis (10%), non-systemic vasculitic neuropathy (2%), and other (19%). Many patients reported foot/hand symptoms suggestive of neuropathy, including numbness (64%), pain (54%), or weakness (40%). 242 patients (78%) met our definition of probable vasculitic neuropathy: diagnosis of neuropathy by vasculitis team OR numbness OR weakness in feet/hands. Only 52% had been formally diagnosed with neuropathy. Compared with 70 patients without neuropathy, neuropathy patients had greater disability measured by the inflammatory Rasch-built Overall Disability Scale (centile mean 63.1 (SD 17.3) vs 75.2 (16.7); p< 0.0001), Inflammatory Neuropathy Cause and Treatment scale (median 2 (IQR 1-4) vs 0.5 (0-2); p< 0.0001), and modified Rankin scale (median 2 (IQR 1-3) vs 2 (1-2); p= 0.0002); greater pain on an 11-point rating scale (mean 4.6 (SD 2.6) vs 3.5 (2.8); p= 0.0009); and poorer HR-QOL on the EQ5D-3L (summary index mean 0.58 (SD 0.29) vs 0.69 (0.28); p<0.0001). Two-thirds reported autonomic symptoms (not associated with neuropathy). CONCLUSION: Neuropathy is common and associated with significant disability, pain, and impaired HR-QOL in patients with systemic vasculitis.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the carbon footprint of the perioperative transurethral resection of bladder tumour (TURBT) pathway from decision to treat to postoperative discharge, and model potential greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction strategies. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This process-based attributional cradle-to-grave life-cycle assessment (LCA) of GHG emissions modelled the perioperative TURBT pathway at a hospital in Southwest England. We included travel, energy and water use, all reusable and consumable items, and laundry and equipment sterilisation. Resource use for 30 patients undergoing surgery was recorded to understand average GHG emissions and the inter-case variability. Sensitivity analysis was performed for manufacturing location, pharmaceutical manufacturing carbon-intensity, and theatre list utilisation. RESULTS: The median (interquartile range) perioperative TURBT carbon footprint was 131.8 (119.8-153.6) kg of carbon dioxide equivalent. Major pathway categories contributing to GHG emissions were surgical equipment (22.2%), travel (18.6%), gas and electricity (13.3%), and anaesthesia/drugs and associated adjuncts (27.0%), primarily due to consumable items and processes. Readily modifiable GHG emissions hotspots included patient travel for preoperative assessment, glove use, catheter use, irrigation delivery and extraction, and mitomycin C disposal. GHG emissions were higher for those admitted as inpatients after surgery. CONCLUSIONS: This cradle-to-grave LCA found multiple modifiable GHG emissions hotspots. Key mitigation themes include minimising avoidable patient travel, rationalising equipment use, optimally filling operating theatre lists, and safely avoiding postoperative catheterisation and hospital admission where possible. A crucial next step is to design and deliver an implementation strategy for the environmentally sustainable changes demonstrated herein.

Organismal superposition holds that the same individual both is and is not an organism, as a consequence of organismal pluralism. When coupled with the assumption that death is the cessation of an organism, this entails that there is no unique answer as to whether brain death is biological death. This essay argues that concerns about organismal pluralism and superposition do not undermine a theory of biological death, nor entail any metaphysical indeterminacy about the biological vital status of a brain-dead individual.

PURPOSE: To quantify the impact of varying central fluid reservoir depth, lens thickness/mass and the addition of a peripheral fenestration upon scleral lens centration. METHODS: Ten young, healthy adults participated in a series of repeated-measures experiments involving short-term (90 min) open eye scleral lens wear. Scleral lens parameters (material, back optic zone radius, diameter, back vertex power and landing zone) were controlled across all experiments, and the central fluid reservoir depth (ranging from 144 to 726 µm), lens thickness (ranging from 150 to 1200 µm), lens mass (101-241 mg) and lens design (with or without a single 0.3 mm peripheral fenestration) were altered systematically. Scleral lens decentration was quantified using over-topography maps. RESULTS: On average, scleral lens centration varied by <0.10 mm over 90 min of wear. Medium and high initial fluid reservoir conditions resulted in 0.17 mm more temporal and 0.55 mm more inferior lens decentration, compared to the low fluid reservoir depth (p < 0.001). Changes in lens thickness or the addition of a peripheral fenestration did not cause clinically significant changes in centration (<0.10 mm on average) when controlling for fluid reservoir depth. Central fluid reservoir depth was the best predictor of horizontal and vertical lens decentration, explaining 62-73% of the observed variation, compared to 40-44% for lens thickness and mass. CONCLUSION: Scleral lens decentration remained relatively stable over 90 min of lens wear. A greater initial central fluid reservoir depth resulted in significantly more lens decentration, particularly inferiorly. Large variations in lens thickness, mass or the addition of a single peripheral fenestration did not substantially affect lens centration.

PURPOSE: To quantify the magnitude and recovery of central and limbal corneal oedema induced by short-term unilateral eyelid closure without contact lens wear. METHODS: The left eye of 10 adults with healthy corneas was patched using a folded eye pad for 30 min. High-resolution optical coherence tomography images (which captured the limbal and central corneal regions simultaneously) were obtained before patching, immediately after eye opening and again at 1, 2, 5, 6, 9, 10, 14 and 15 mins after eyelid opening. Oedema was measured from the limbus (scleral spur) to the central cornea (thinnest corneal location) along the horizontal meridian. RESULTS: A greater amount of limbal oedema was noted (mean [SD] 3.84 [1.79] %) compared to the central cornea (2.48 [0.61] %; p = 0.04) after 30 mins of unilateral eyelid closure. Both central and limbal corneal oedema recovered rapidly following eyelid opening, with no significant differences in the rate of corneal recovery between corneal locations (p = 0.90). CONCLUSIONS: Short-term unilateral eyelid closure resulted in ~55% more relative oedema in the limbal region compared to the central cornea. Rapid recovery of oedema and corneal overshoot (thinning beyond the baseline corneal thickness) was observed within 1-2 min of eyelid opening for both central and peripheral regions.

PURPOSE: The fit and optical performance of a scleral lens is affected by the alignment of the landing zone with the underlying ocular surface. The aim of this research was to quantify the effect of landing zone toricity upon scleral lens fitting characteristics (rotation and decentration) and optics (lens flexure) during short-term wear. METHODS: Scleral lenses with nominal landing zone toricities of 0, 100, 150 and 200 µm were worn in a randomised order by 10 young healthy participants (mean [SD] 24 [7] years) for 30 min, with other lens parameters held constant. Scleral toricity was quantified using a corneo-scleral profilometer, and lens flexure, rotation, and decentration were quantified using over-topography during lens wear. Repeated measures analyses were conducted as a function of landing zone toricity and residual scleral toricity (the difference between scleral and lens toricity) for eyes with 'low' magnitude scleral toricity (mean: 96 µm) and 'high' magnitude scleral toricity (mean: 319 µm). RESULTS: Toric landing zones significantly reduced lens flexure (by 0.37 [0.21] D, p < 0.05) and lens rotation (by 20 [24]°, p < 0.05) compared with a spherical landing zone. Horizontal and vertical lens decentration did not vary significantly with landing zone toricity. These trends for flexure, rotation, and decentration were also observed for eyes with 'low' and 'high' magnitude scleral toricity as a function of residual scleral toricity. CONCLUSION: Landing zones with 100-200 µm toricity significantly reduced lens flexure (by ~62%) and rotation (by ~77%) but not horizontal or vertical lens decentration, compared with a spherical landing zone, when controlling for other confounding variables. The incorporation of a toric landing zone, even for eyes with lower magnitude scleral toricity (~100 µm), may be beneficial, particularly for front surface optical designs.

People who are not dead under the law that defines death should not be declared dead. There is no compelling reason to continue the practice of declaring legally living persons to be dead.

RESUMO

The development of a versatile platform for the synthesis of 1,2-difunctionalized bicyclo[1.1.1]pentanes to potentially mimic ortho/meta-substituted arenes is described. The syntheses of useful building blocks bearing alcohol, amine, and carboxylic acid functional handles have been achieved from a simple common intermediate. Several ortho- and meta-substituted benzene analogs, as well as simple molecular matched pairs, have also been prepared using this platform. The results of in-depth ADME (absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion) investigations of these systems are presented, as well as computational studies which validate the ortho- or meta-character of these bioisosteres.

Johne's disease (JD), also known as paratuberculosis, is a chronic, untreatable gastroenteritis of ruminants caused by Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (MAP) infection. Evidence for host genetic resistance to disease progression exists, although it is limited due to the extended incubation period (years) and diagnostic challenges. To overcome this, previously restored formalin-fixed paraffin embedded tissue (FFPE) DNA from archived FFPE tissue cassettes was utilized for a novel retrospective case-control genome-wide association study (GWAS) on ovine JD. Samples from known MAP-infected flocks with ante- and postmortem diagnostic data were used. Cases (N = 9) had evidence of tissue infection, compared to controls (N = 25) without evidence of tissue infection despite positive antemortem diagnostics. A genome-wide efficient mixed model analysis (GEMMA) to conduct a GWAS using restored FFPE DNA SNP results from the Illumina Ovine SNP50 Bead Chip, identified 10 SNPs reaching genome-wide significance of p < 1 × 10-6 on chromosomes 1, 3, 4, 24, and 26. Pathway analysis using PANTHER and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) was completed on 45 genes found within 1 Mb of significant SNPs. Our work provides a framework for the novel use of archived FFPE tissues for animal genetic studies in complex diseases and further evidence for a genetic association in JD.

BACKGROUND: Fibroblast growth factor receptor-3 (FGFR3) gain-of-function mutations are linked to achondroplasia. Infigratinib, a FGFR1-3 tyrosine kinase inhibitor, improves skeletal growth in an achondroplasia mouse model. FGFs and their receptors have critical roles in developing teeth, yet effects of infigratinib on tooth development have not been assessed. Dentoalveolar and craniofacial phenotype of Wistar rats dosed with low (0.1 mg/kg) and high (1.0 mg/kg) dose infigratinib were evaluated using micro-computed tomography, histology, and immunohistochemistry. RESULTS: Mandibular third molars were reduced in size and exhibited aberrant crown and root morphology in 100% of female rats and 80% of male rats at high doses. FGFR3 and FGF18 immunolocalization and extracellular matrix protein expression were unaffected, but cathepsin K (CTSK) was altered by infigratinib. Cranial vault bones exhibited alterations in dimension, volume, and density that were more pronounced in females. In both sexes, interfrontal sutures were significantly more patent with high dose vs vehicle. CONCLUSIONS: High dose infigratinib administered to rats during early stages affects dental and craniofacial development. Changes in CTSK from infigratinib in female rats suggest FGFR roles in bone homeostasis. While dental and craniofacial disruptions are not expected at therapeutic doses, our findings confirm the importance of dental monitoring in clinical studies.

Neurological disorders are often debilitating conditions with no cure. The majority of current therapies are palliative rather than disease-modifying; therefore, new strategies for treating neurological disorders are greatly needed. mRNA-based therapeutics have great potential for treating such neurological disorders; however, challenges with delivery have limited their clinical potential. Lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) are a promising delivery vector for the brain, given their safer toxicity profile and higher efficacy. Despite this, very little is known about LNP-mediated delivery of mRNA into the brain. Here, we employ MC3-based LNPs and successfully deliver Cre mRNA and Cas9 mRNA/Ai9 sgRNA to the adult Ai9 mouse brain; greater than half of the entire striatum and hippocampus was found to be penetrated along the rostro-caudal axis by direct intracerebral injections of MC3 LNP mRNAs. MC3 LNP Cre mRNA successfully transfected cells in the striatum (∼52% efficiency) and hippocampus (∼49% efficiency). In addition, we demonstrate that MC3 LNP Cas9 mRNA/Ai9 sgRNA edited cells in the striatum (∼7% efficiency) and hippocampus (∼3% efficiency). Further analysis demonstrates that MC3 LNPs mediate mRNA delivery to multiple cell types including neurons, astrocytes, and microglia in the brain. Overall, LNP-based mRNA delivery is effective in brain tissue and shows great promise for treating complex neurological disorders.

The vacuolar H+-ATPase (V-ATPase) is an ATP-dependent proton pump that governs the pH of various intracellular compartments and also functions at the plasma membrane in certain cell types, including cancer cells. Membrane targeting of the V-ATPase is controlled by isoforms of subunit a, and we have previously shown that isoforms a3 and a4 are important for the migration and invasion of several breast cancer cell lines in vitro. Using CRISPR-mediated genome editing to selectively disrupt each of the four a subunit isoforms, we also recently showed that a4 is critical to plasma membrane V-ATPase localization, as well as in vitro migration and invasion of 4T1-12B murine breast cancer cells. We now report that a4 is important for the growth of 4T1-12B tumors in vivo. We found that BALB/c mice bearing a4-/- 4T1-12B allografts had significantly smaller tumors than mice in the control group. In addition, we determined that a4-/- allografts showed dramatically reduced metastases to the lung and reduced luminescence intensity of metastases to bone relative to the control group. Taken together, these results suggest that the a4 isoform of the V-ATPase represents a novel potential therapeutic target to limit breast cancer growth and metastasis.
