RESUMO

Zinc-iodine batteries are one of the most intriguing types of batteries that offer high energy density and low toxicity. However, the low intrinsic conductivity of iodine, together with high polyiodide solubility in aqueous electrolytes limits the development of high-areal-capacity zinc-iodine batteries with high stability, especially at low current densities. Herein, we proposed a hydrophobic polyiodide ionic liquid as a zinc-ion battery cathode, which successfully activates the iodine redox process by offering 4 orders of magnitude higher intrinsic electrical conductivity and remarkably lower solubility that suppressed the polyiodide shuttle in a dual-plating zinc-iodine cell. By the molecular engineering of the chemical structure of the polyiodide ionic liquid, the electronic conductivity can reach 3.4 × 10-3 S cm-1 with a high Coulombic efficiency of 98.2%. The areal capacity of the zinc-iodine battery can achieve 5.04 mAh cm-2 and stably operate at 3.12 mAh cm-2 for over 990 h. Besides, a laser-scribing designed flexible dual-plating-type microbattery based on a polyiodide ionic liquid cathode also exhibits stable cycling in both a single cell and 4 × 4 integrated cell, which can operate with the polarity-switching model with high stability.

RESUMO

The immobilization of tiny active species within inert mesoporous silica imparts a range of functions, enhancing their applicability. A significant obstacle is the spontaneous migration and aggregation of these species within the mesopores, which threaten their uniform distribution. To address this, we propose a postmodification method that involves grafting transition metal oxide nanoclusters into silica mesopores via interfacial condensation, catalyzed by acetate ions. Specifically, CuO nanoclusters, in the form of oligomeric [O1-x-Cu2-(OH) 2x]n2+, have a strong interaction with the silica framework. This interaction inhibits their growth and prevents mesopore blockage. Theoretical calculation results reveal that the acetate ion promotes proton transfer among various hydroxy species, lowering the free energy and thereby facilitating the formation of Cu-O-Si bonds. This technique has also been successfully applied to the encapsulation of four other types of transition metal oxide nanoclusters. Our encapsulation strategy effectively addresses the challenge of dispersing transition metal oxides in mesoporous silica, offering a straightforward and widely applicable method for enhancing the functionality of mesoporous materials.

RESUMO

The loading, delivery, and release of Pt(IV) precursors in living organisms are important aspects of exploring the development of platinum drugs. In recent years, the biological application of the fluorescent sensors to platinum drugs has been insufficient to meet the study of Pt(IV) precursors. It is urgent to design and develop a biocompatible, multifunctional fluorescent sensor for the study of loading, transport, and release of Pt(IV) ions. Herein, we report a fluorescent molecule (E)-6-(diethylamino)-N'-(4-(diphenylamino) benzylidene)-2-oxo-2H-chromene-3 carbohydrazide (CHTPA). CHTPA has good sensitivity and selectivity to Pt(IV) when the water content is 5%, and significant increase of the fluorescence emission intensity of CHTPA is observed with Pt(IV) concentration. The sensing mechanism is attributed to photo-induced electron transfer, which is verified by X-ray absorption near edge spectroscopy spectra, UV-vis absorption spectroscopy, 1H NMR spectra, and Fourier transform infrared spectra. Furthermore, the CHTPA-Pt(IV) complex is able to release Pt(IV) in aqueous solution, and the green fluorescence of CHTPA based on the aggregation-induced emission effect can be observed. Inspired by these, the amphiphilic block copolymer poly(ethyloxide)-block-polystyrene (PEO-b-PS) is used to prepare the nonconjugated polymer dots (Pdots). The experimental results show that Pdots can effectively slow down the release speed of Pt(IV) in aqueous solution and it has a great monodispersity in aqueous solution. Meanwhile, Pdots show low cytotoxicity, and this is favorable for intracellular applications. The investigation of cellular imaging indicates that these Pdots can act as a carrier to deliver Pt(IV) into MCF-7 cells for visualized delivery and sustained release of platinum(IV) ions. Therefore, this study provides a new avenue to design and develop a biocompatible multifunctional fluorescent sensor for studying the loading, delivery, and release of Pt(IV) in cells.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To analyze and stratify the possible risk factors of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in lateral skull base surgery (LSBS) using the Caprini risk assessment model. METHODS: In a single center, a retrospective study was conducted with patients who underwent LSBS from June 2016 to August 2021. The clinical characteristics and blood chemistry tests were collected. The incidence of VTE within 30 days of surgery was recorded. The Caprini risk score was calculated to assess the postoperative VTE risk. RESULTS: Among the 123 patients in this study, the VTE incidence within 30 postoperative days was 8.9%. The total Caprini risk score in VTE patients (5.6 ± 1.9 points) was significantly higher than that of non-VTE patients (4.6 ± 1.4 points; p = 0.028). The binary logistic regression showed the total Caprini score as the only independent indicator of postoperative VTE. The receiver operating characteristic curve analysis showed that the Caprini score at 6.5 points had low sensitivity (36.4%) but high specificity (91.1%), with the largest area under the curve being 0.659. The VTE rate was significantly higher in patients with a total Caprini score ≥ 7 points (28.6%) compared to those with a total Caprini score ≤ 6 points (7.3%; p = 0.022). CONCLUSION: LSBS patients have a high risk of developing postoperative VTE. Patients with a Caprini score ≥ 7 points had a significantly higher risk of developing VTE after LSBS. The Caprini risk system was useful in assessing the VTE risk in LSBS. However, more data, calibration, and validation are necessary to establish an exclusive Caprini risk system for LSBS.

RESUMO

A valve-controlled hydraulic motor system operating in a complex environment is subject to complex load changes. In extreme cases, the load can be regarded as a disturbance signal with complex frequency and strong amplitude fluctuations, which greatly affects the speed stability of the hydraulic motor and reduces the operating efficiency. In this paper, the structure of valve-controlled hydraulic motor systems is analyzed, and a valve-controlled hydraulic motor system model with uncertain parameters is established after considering the actual target parameter error and model linearization error. Different from the common H-infinity control, which regards the load disturbance as external disturbance, this paper presents a robust H-infinity tracking control strategy, which considers uncertain parameters and the load torque of the valve-controlled hydraulic motor system as internal disturbances. The simulation results show that the proposed control scheme has better control characteristics and robustness than the traditional PID control.

RESUMO

Lignin degradation is an effective means of achieving the high-value application of lignin, but degradation usually requires the use of high temperatures and harsh reaction-conditions. This study describes a green, mild approach for the degradation of lignin, in which chlorine dioxide (ClO2) was used for the oxidative degradation of lignin (IL) in an acidic aqueous suspension at room temperature. The optimal process conditions were: 30 mL of ClO2 solution (2.5 mg·L-1), pH 4.5 and 3 h. The FT-IR, NMR (1H NMR, 2D-HSQC and 31P NMR), XPS and GPC analyses indicated that lignin could be degraded by ClO2 relatively well at room temperature, to form quinones and muconic acids. Additionally, DIL was reduced to substances with a high phenolic-hydroxyl (OH) content (RDIL) under the presence of NaBH4, which further confirmed the composition of DIL and which can be applied to the development of lignin-based phenolic resins, providing a reference for the further modification as well as the utilization of DIL.

RESUMO

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a non-specific inflammatory disease of the intestine with the pathogenesis to be largely unknown. We found that microRNA (miR)-10b knock-out mice displayed mild IBD symptoms, suggesting that miR-10b may be involved in the onset and development of IBD. This study focuses on elucidating the role of miR-10b in IBD. The colitis model was induced by feeding the mice with 2.5% dextran sodium sulfate (DSS), and the expression levels of miR-10b in colon tissue and blood samples were examined. The severity of colitis was assessed by disease activity index, colon length, histopathological damage, intestinal permeability and ELISA. Then, after transfection of Caco-2 cells with miR-10b mimic and inhibitor, qRT-PCR was used to detect the expression levels of intestinal barrier related genes in colon tissues and cells. miR-10b levels were significantly reduced in mice with DSS-induced acute colitis. Compared with wild-type (WT) mice, miR-10b knockout mice were more sensitive to DSS-induced colitis characterized by increased inflammatory cell infiltration and more severe disruption of colonic barrier function. In addition, by inhibiting miR-10b and thus increasing intestinal barrier gene expression in Caco-2 cells, we found that miR-10b suppressed inflammatory responses and enhanced intestinal barrier function both in vivo and in vitro. miR-10b inhibits the inflammatory response in DSS-induced acute colitis mice in vivo and enhances intestinal barrier function in vitro, suggesting that miR-10b plays a key role in the developmental process of IBD. Thus, miR-10b may be expected to be a new target for the treatment of IBD.

RESUMO

Increasing evidence has shown that noise overexposure could lead to impaired hippocampal function. Hippocampal alteration is also observed in several auditory deficits, including hearing loss, and tinnitus. Therefore, the functions of hearing and cognition interact with each other. Here, we summarize the evidence that noise affects the hippocampus from aspects of behavior, neurogenesis, ultrastructure, neurotransmission, other biomarkers, and electrophysiology. We also address hippocampal alterations in auditory disorders, including hearing loss and tinnitus. Based on the current state of the field, we point out several aspects that need further investigation. This review is not only to provide a comprehensive summary of the current state of the field but to emphasize that hearing matters in cognition and pave the way for future research.

RESUMO

Accumulated evidence has demonstrated that miRNAs are closely implicated in lung carcinogenesis. Herein, we explored the expression pattern of miR-30b-5p in lung cancer, and aimed to uncover miR-30b-5p roles in lung cancer progression and drug resistance. miR-30b-5p expression profiles in lung cancer tissues and the matched non-tumor tissues were determined by using qPCR. Cell viability, migration, invasion and in vivo tumorigenesis were determined by using the CCK-8, colony formation, wound healing, transwell chambers experiments and tumor xenograft models. RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) and dual luciferase reporter experiments were applied to evaluate the relationship between miR-30b-5p and LRP8. The results demonstrated that miR-30b-5p showed a low expression profile in lung cancer tissues and cells, and closely linked to poor prognosis and malignant clinical process. Cell viability, migration, invasiveness and tumorigenesis were significantly weakened following miR-30b-5p overexpression in A549 and NCI-H1299 cells, while cell apoptosis rates were increased. In addition, miR-30b-5p was lowly expressed in A549/DDP (a cisplatin drug resistant cell line) as compared with A549 cells, and miR-30b-5p increased A549/DDP cell sensitivity to DDP. However, these above roles of miR-30b-5p were all significantly impaired following the overexpression of LRP8 which was overexpressed in lung cancer tissues. Collectively, this study demonstrated that miR-30b-5p functions as a tumor suppressor in lung cancer, and re-sensitizes lung cancer cells to DDP by targeting LRP8.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The CT-guided percutaneous puncture-inoculation for establishing the rabbit VX2 lung cancer model (LCM) is time-consuming, requires repeated CT scans, and has a high complication rate. Therefore, this study aimed to develop a navigational template using 3D technology to provide an alternative method for establishing the model with improved success and complication rates. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ideal pressure was determined using chest CT data from 15 anesthetized rabbits fitted with sphygmomanometer cuff around their chests. Subsequently, a preliminary 3D template with a square window and cross-sign to facilitate precise installation was designed. Using another 20 rabbits fixed with the preliminary template, an ideal common puncture point and parameter were determined, a navigational tunnel was set up on the template surface, and the final puncture navigational template was printed out. Eight-four rabbits (42/group) were assigned to the experimental (template-guided puncture) and control (traditional puncutre) groups and underwent VX2 tumor-fragment inoculation to validate the template. Differences in various parameters between two groups were analyzed. RESULTS: The ideal pressure was 30 mmHg. All rabbits were inoculated successfully and the template adequately fit the rabbit chest. The experimental group displayed significantly better operation time (198.93±36.64 vs 735.14±91.19 seconds); number of CT scans (0 vs 7.19±1.64); pneumothorax (11.9% vs 35.7%), chest seeding (16.7% vs 35.7%), and mid-lung field tumor-bearing (88.1% vs 59.5%) rates than the control group (all, P <0.05). The groups did not differ in rib injury, tumor volume or survival time (all, P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: We successfully developed a puncture navigational template, providing an alternative method for establishing the rabbit VX2 LCM.

RESUMO

Silver nanowires (AgNWs) have been considered as one of the most promising flexible transparent electrodes (FTEs) material for next-generation optoelectronic devices. However, the large contact resistance between AgNWs could deteriorate the conductivity of FTEs. In the present work, high-performance AgNWs FTEs were obtained by means of focused-light-scanning (FLS), which could lead to the large-area, rapid and high-quality welding between AgNWs within a short time, forming the reliable and stable AgNWs network. The results of the optoelectronic tests show that after FLS, the sheet resistance of the AgNWs FTEs sharply decreased from 5113 Ω/sq to 7.7 Ω/sq, with maintaining a high transmittance (∼94%). Finally, a high-performance flexible transparent heater was fabricated by using FLS, showing reach a relatively high temperature in a short response time and rapid response at low input voltage. The findings offer an effective pathway to greatly improve the conductivity of AgNWs FTEs.

RESUMO

As an unnecessary trace element, the content of aluminium in biological systems should be strictly controlled. Therefore, it was necessary to develop a convenient method for detection of aluminium ions. In this study, a fluorescent probe based on polythiophene derivatives was developed and used to detect Al3+ in Chinese traditional pasta. The fluorescence of this probe showed a significant decrease in hexamethylenetetramine-HCl buffer solution (pH 5) when Al3+ was present. In addition, the probe exhibited good sensitivity and selectivity to Al3+ over other metal ions when EDTA was used as the masking agent. Fluorescence intensity had a good linear relationship with the Al3+ concentration in the range 0.1-10 µM and the limit of detection for Al3+ was 39 nM. Furthermore, the probe was successfully applied to detect Al3+ in food samples and the results were consistent with ICP-AES.

RESUMO

A H2O2-free colorimetric protocol based on urchin-like Au@Pt nanoparticles (Au@Pt NPs) has been developed for the sensitive and selective determination of cysteine (Cys). We verified the intrinsic oxidase-like activity of the Au@Pt NPs. They can act as artificial mimic oxidases to catalyse the oxidization of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) with the assistance of dissolved oxygen, avoiding the use of H2O2 in the colorimetric determination of Cys. In addition, the discrimination of Cys from the other two biothiol analogues, homocysteine and glutathione, can be easily realized through a simple ageing process. HNO3 is added to this colorimetric system to terminate the reaction by oxidizing ox-TMB (oxidized form of TMB) to diphenoquinone (DPQ), thus generating a characteristic absorption peak of DPQ at 450 nm. By recording the absorbance at 450 nm, interference from the aggregated Au@Pt NPs (absorption peak at 670 nm) when 650 nm (the characteristic absorption peak of ox-TMB) is used as the absorption wavelength can be eliminated. We investigated this H2O2-free colorimetric protocol and obtained high sensitivity, with a detection limit of 1.5 nM and relatively high selectivity. The analytical performance for real samples was further explored. The Au@Pt NP-based H2O2-free colorimetric protocol is of great significance for the sensitive and selective determination of Cys in practical samples in different scenarios.

RESUMO

A fluorescent probe L-Cu2+ based on quinoline, coumarin and Cu2+ has been synthesized and characterized for hypochlorite determination. After copper ion was added to the solution of ligand L, the fluorescence quenching at 490 nm might result from a ligand-metal charge transfer (LMCT) process and its strong coordination ability for Cu2+ . In the presence of hypochlorite, the structure of ligand L was destroyed to form 7-(diethylamino)-coumarin-3-carboxylic acid, and the fluorescence was restored at 460 nm. In this case, L-Cu2+ complex could be used as a fluorescent probe to detect hypochlorite, with the advantages of rapid, selective, wide linear range and low detection limit.

RESUMO

A highly sensitive and selective colorimetric analysis method based on unmodified gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) to detect iodide ions (I- ) in solution in the presence of hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) and mercury ions (Hg2+ ) has been successfully developed. Hg2+ could form a gold amalgam with AuNPs to protect AuNPs from CTAB-induced aggregation caused by the electrostatic attraction between CTAB and citrate ion-covered AuNPs. When a mixture of Hg2+ and I- was added to the solution of AuNPs, the formation of the HgI2 complex destroyed the protection of Hg2+ for AuNPs, which led to the aggregation of AuNPs accompanied with the change in colour of the solution from red to grey black and decrease in the absorbance of AuNPs at 520 nm. There was a good linear relationship between A520nm and I- concentration from 0 to 800 nM with a low limit of detection (LOD) of 4.2 nM. Furthermore, this simple and reliable colorimetric sensor has been applied successfully to the detection of I- in practical samples.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Simultaneous bilateral cochlear implantation is often seen as the gold-standard intervention for many people with bilateral deafness. However, this intervention is not as commonly performed in China. This paper presents the surgical technique and the peri- and postoperative safety results from simultaneous bilateral implantation and compares them with those from sequential bilateral implantation. METHODS: Twenty nine children (aged 12‒18 months) met the inclusion/exclusion criteria and took part in this study. 10 participants received a unilateral cochlear implantation; 19 participants received simultaneous bilateral cochlear implantation. The same standard surgical technique (transmastoid facial recess approach with round window insertion) was used in all implantations. Safety was assessed via monitoring peri- and postoperative adverse events. The helpfulness of select surgical tools was assessed via questionnaire. RESULTS: No adverse events were reported for any participants. All queried surgical tools were helpful in all 244 recorded responses. CONCLUSION: Simultaneous bilateral cochlear implantation can be performed using the same surgical technique as unilateral implantation and poses no increased safety risk for children aged 1‒2 years.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Malignant carotid body tumor (CBT) is a rare disorder with poor prognosis. In this article, we presented the clinical features and surgical management of malignant CBTs at our department, aiming to improve the outcome for treating such lesions. METHODS: A retrospective analysis (2005-2018) of CBT excisions at our institution was performed. About 195 patients with CBTs were identified, among which 11 patients with eleven malignant CBTs were identified and carefully reviewed. Data obtained included demographics, radiological details, intra-operative details, post-operative morbidity, and long-term outcomes. RESULTS: Compared with benign CBTs, malignant CBTs have more advanced Shamblin classification (p < 0.001) and larger tumor size (4.5 ± 2.1 cm vs. 6.7 ± 2.6 cm, p = 0.003). Among the 11 malignant cases, 9 patients underwent surgical resection and 8 cases (8/9, 89%) underwent internal carotid artery (ICA) reconstruction. Intra-operative findings showed that malignant CBTs revealed more severe arterial and nerve adhesions. With the use of specific techniques including pre-reconstruction technique and carotid shunt, all surgeries were successful and no deaths or major complications including stroke or hemiplegia occurred perioperatively and during the follow-up. During the follow-up period (41.6 ± 44.5 months), two patients developed distant metastasis at 7 and 11 years post-operatively. The 5-year and 10-year distant metastasis-free survival rates were 72.7% and 36.4%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: With more advanced Shamblin classification and larger tumor size, malignant CBTs remain challengeable for surgery due to severe intra-operative hemorrhage, need of vascular reconstruction and cervical nerve injury. Specific surgical techniques including pre-reconstruction technique and carotid shunt are safe and effective to improve the outcome.

RESUMO

Hybrid halide perovskites are emerging semiconducting materials with a diverse set of remarkable optoelectronic properties. Besides the widely studied lead halide perovskites, Pb-free metal halides such as Bi- and Sb-containing hybrid organic-inorganic materials have shown potential as semiconductors and have been deemed candidates for optoelectronic devices. Here, we report a series of 1D Sb/Bi-based organic-inorganic hybrid alloys: [4ApyH]SbxBi1-xIyBr4-y, where 4ApyH stands for the 4-aminopyridine cations. These compounds are assembled by edge-sharing octahedral [MX6] units stabilizing 1D chains with organic cations filled in between. The crystallographic data of eight selected complexes show that [4ApyH]SbxBi1-xIyBr4-y has at least five phases (space group) with the difference metal and halogen content: Pbca ([4ApyH]BiI4), Pca21 ([4ApyH]Sb0.5Bi0.5I4), P21/c ([4ApyH]SbI4 (100 K), [4ApyH]BiI2Br2, [4ApyH]BiBr4, and [4ApyH]SbBr4 (100 K)), I2/a ([4ApyH]Sb0.5Bi0.5I2Br2and [4ApyH]SbI2Br2), and C2/c ([4ApyH]SbI4 (298 K) and [4ApyH]SbBr4 (298 K)). Powder X-ray diffraction shows that the phase of the sample changes with a change of the metal and halogen ratios, and the change law accords with Vegard's law. The optical band gaps are heavily affected by the metal and halide contents, ranging from 1.94 eV for [4ApyH]BiI4 to 2.73 eV for [4ApyH]SbBr4. When Sb substitutes for Bi to form an alloy, the band gap increases from 1.94 for [4ApyH]BiI4 to 1.67 eV for [4ApyH]SbI4, from 2.13 eV for [4ApyH]BiI2Br2 to 2.41 eV for [4ApyH]SbI2Br2, and from 2.55 eV for [4ApyH]BiBr4 to 2.73 eV for [4ApyH]SbBr4. The conductivity of [4ApyH]SbxBi1-xI4 increased from ∼1.00 × 10-15 to 2.14 × 10-8 S cm-1 with an increase of the Sb content. Solution-deposited thin films of the nine complexes show the same (110) orientation, displaying a parallel growth orientation with respect to the substrate. The devices of [4ApyH]Sb0.8Bi0.2I4 and [4ApyH]SbI4 demonstrated stable open-circuit photovoltages of 0.55 and 0.44 V, steady-state short-circuit photocurrent densities of 1.52 and 1.81 mA cm-2, and light-to-electrical energy conversion efficiencies of 0.29% and 0.30%, respectively.

RESUMO

Metal halide perovskites have fascinating electronic properties and have already been implemented in various devices. Although the behavior of the properties of lead halide perovskite nanocrystals has been studied, the properties of lead-free perovskite nanocrystals are less well-understood because synthesizing them is still very challenging. Here, a simple and popularizable method has been demonstrated to grow monodisperse bismuth-halide double perovskite nanocrystals, Cs2AgBiBr6 (1), inside three kinds of mesoporous silica templates. The size and morphology of nanocrystals depend on the structure and pore size of the template. Structural analysis shows that the nanocrystals of various sizes and morphologies retain the crystal structure of bimetallic perovskite. 1 exhibits different morphologies in the silicon channels of three templates: square nanoparticles in KIT-6, spherical and rodlike particles in SBA-15, and nanowires in MCM-41. UV-vis-NIR and photoluminescence measurements show us the variation of band gap and carrier recombination time due to quantum confinement of nanocrystals in mesoporous silicon materials. The band gaps of nanocrystals in the template exhibit an obvious blue shift compared with that of the bulk sample, and the carrier recombination time is significantly shortened. We show that mesoporous silicon templates can be used to prepare lead-free perovskite nanocrystals, and the controllable preparation of nanocrystals can be achieved by the template's own characteristics. This provides a new idea for us to find new functional materials of lead-free metal halide solid-state light-emitting diodes.

RESUMO

In the hydrothermal synthesis of highly ordered mesoporous silica material SBA-15, strong acid is typically required to catalyze the hydrolysis and condensation of silica species. Meanwhile, under strongly acidic conditions, the transition metal ions, e.g., iron ions, are difficult to incorporate into SBA-15 because of the facile dissociation of Fe-O-Si bonds. Here, we demonstrate an acid-free green synthetic strategy for the synthesis of highly ordered mesoporous SBA-15 and Fe-SBA-15 with the assistance of hydroxyl free radicals that are generated by physical or chemical methods. The prepared materials exhibit a large specific surface area compared to the counterparts prepared by conventional method under acidic conditions. Moreover, Fe-SBA-15 shows high metal loading efficiency as over 50%. Density functional theory calculations suggest that the hydroxyl free radicals exhibit higher catalytic activity than H+ ions for the hydrolysis of tetraethyl orthosilicate. This radical-facilitated synthesis approach overcomes the challenge to the direct synthesis of highly ordered SBA-15 and Fe-SBA-15 without adding any acid, providing a facile and environmentally friendly route for future large-scale production of ordered mesoporous materials.
