BACKGROUND: Hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) is currently the only widely available curative option for patients with sickle cell disease (SCD). Alloimmunization in this population is frequent and can complicate transfusion management during the HSCT period. The case of a pediatric patient with severe SCD clinical phenotype, multiple alloantibodies (9), and hyperhemolysis syndrome who underwent haploidentical HSCT is described. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: The patient was known for an anti-e, despite RHCE*01.01 allele, which predicts a C- c+ E- weak e+ phenotype. Donors matching the patient's extended phenotype were targeted for RHCE genotyping. RESULTS: Donors homozygotes or heterozygotes for RHCE*01.01 were selected for compatibility analyses and ranked based on strength of reactions. Discordance between zygosity and strength of reactions was observed, as the most compatible donors were heterozygotes for RHCE*01.01. In total, the patient received seven RBC units from two different donors during HSCT process without transfusion reaction or development of new alloantibodies. Six months post-HSCT, his hemoglobin level is stable at around 120 g/L and his chimerism is 100%. DISCUSSION: This case highlights the complexity of transfusion management during HSCT of alloimmunized patients with SCD. Collecting sufficient compatible units requires early involvement of transfusion medicine teams and close communication with the local blood provider. Genotyping of donors self-identifying as Black is useful for identifying compatible blood for those patients but has some limitations. HSCT for heavily alloimmunized patients is feasible and safe with early involvement of transfusion medicine specialists. Further research on the clinical impact of genotypic matching is needed.

BACKGROUND: Red blood cell transfusion is an effective treatment for patients with sickle cell disease (SCD). Alloimmunization can occur after a single transfusion, limiting further usage of blood transfusion. It is recommended to match for the ABO, D, C, E, and K antigens to reduce risks of alloimmunization. However, availability of compatible blood units can be challenging for blood providers with a limited number of Black donors. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: A prospective cohort of 205 pediatric patients with SCD was genotyped for the RH and FY genes. Transfusion and alloimmunization history were collected. Our capacity to find RhCE-matched donors was evaluated using a database of genotyped donors. RESULTS: Nearly 9.8% of patients carried a partial D variant and 5.9% were D-. Only 45.9% of RHCE alleles were normal, with the majority of variants affecting the RH5 (e) antigen. We found an alloimmunization prevalence of 20.7% and a Rh alloimmunization prevalence of 7.1%. Since Black donors represented only 1.40% of all blood donors in our province, D- Caucasian donors were mostly used to provide phenotype matched products. Compatible blood for patients with rare Rh variants was found only in Black donors. A donor with compatible RhCE could be identified for all patients. CONCLUSION: Although Rh-compatible donors were identified, blood units might not be available when needed and/or the extended phenotype or ABO group might not match the patient. A greater effort has to be made for the recruitment of Black donors to accommodate patients with SCD.

Prokinetic agents, specifically 5-hydroxytryptamine type 4 (5-HT 4 ) receptor agonists, have been shown to provide relief in chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC). The first-generation 5-HT 4 agonists were initially withdrawn from use owing to associations with serious cardiovascular (CV) events. This review summarizes CV safety data for prucalopride, a high-affinity 5-HT 4 agonist approved in the United States in 2018 for adults with CIC. No significant effects of prucalopride on CV safety were observed in animal models or early-phase clinical studies, including a thorough QT study at therapeutic (2 mg) or supratherapeutic (10 mg) doses. Among 1,750 patients with CIC who received prucalopride (2-4 mg) in 5 phase 3 studies, no trends in CV adverse events, electrocardiogram parameters, or blood pressure were documented; ≤1.0%-2.0% of patients had prolonged QT interval corrected for heart rate (HR) using Fridericia formula after placebo or prucalopride treatment, and low HR occurred in ≤6.1% and ≤3.3% of these patients, respectively. In two 24-month observational studies among 2,468 patients, changes in electrocardiogram parameters over time were minor, except at occasional time points when significant changes from baseline were reported for HR or QT interval. In a real-world European CV safety study among 35,087 patients (prucalopride, 5,715; polyethylene glycol 3350 [PEG3350], 29,372), results were consistent for no evidence of increased risk of major adverse CV events among patients treated with prucalopride vs PEG3350 (incidence rate ratio = 0.64; 95% confidence interval 0.36-1.14). Studies to date have not raised concerns regarding the impact of prucalopride treatment on CV parameters.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: ABO antigens are among the most immunogenic, but the haemolytic risks of ABO incompatibilities involving a donor with a weak ABO phenotype are little documented. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective case series assessed the incidence of acute haemolytic transfusion reaction (AHTR) among ABO-incompatible recipients of A3 blood in Québec (Canada). Transfusion safety officers reported laboratory AHTR indicators measured ≤24 h pre- and post-transfusion. Because the AHTR case definition of Québec's Hemovigilance System (QHS) leaves significant room for clinical judgement, a two-step approach was used to assess potential cases: Step 1 consisted in a highly sensitive-but unspecific-initial screen that identified all candidate cases per QHS case definition, and Step 2 consisted in a detailed review of candidate cases by two haematologists. RESULTS: Nine donors initially typed as Group B (N = 1) or O (N = 8) were subsequently found to display an A3 B or A3 O phenotype. Eighty-one recipients received ABO-incompatible blood, including 53 (65.4%) with interpretable data. Of these, 29 (54.7%) were classified as candidate cases after Step 1. Following Step 2, no conclusive evidence of AHTR was found: Abnormal pre- versus post-transfusion changes appeared modest, within normal range, insufficient to ascertain AHTR, or were consistent with a pre-existing condition unrelated to AHTR. Two candidate cases had a QHS-reported transfusion reaction; both were unrelated to AHTR. CONCLUSION: In this case series, no conclusive evidence of serious AHTR was found among ABO-incompatible recipients who were inadvertently transfused with A3 blood.

In this study, the kinetic mechanism of adsorption and desorption, as well as the equilibrium isotherms, of four metallic ions (Cd2+, Cu2+, Ni2+, and Zn2+) mono and multicomponent were investigated. The biosorbent used was produced from Jerivá (Syagrus romanzoffiana-commonly known as queen palm) coconut. A kinetic model that considers macropore diffusion as a control step was solved. The finite volume method was used in the discretization of the equations, and the algorithm was implemented in the Fortran programming language. The equilibrium time for monocomponent adsorption was 5 min; for the multicomponent tests, equilibrium occurred instantly (less than 2 min of adsorption). The pseudo-second-order model presented the lowest mean of the sum of normalized errors (SNE) and represented the experimental data of mono and multicomponent adsorption and desorption. Single and multicomponent Langmuir model represented the adsorption isotherms. The maximum capacity of adsorption of metallic ions, both mono and multicomponent, was higher for copper, and the multicomponent adsorption proved to be antagonistic; the presence of co-ions in the solution reduced the removal of metals due to competition between these contaminants. The capture preference order was justified by the physicochemical properties of the ions, such as electron incompatibility and electronegativity. All these situations justified the maximum adsorption of Cu2+, followed by Zn2+, Cd2+, and Ni2+ in the mixture.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: A high proportion of suspected weak D patients referred to Héma-Québec were genotyped as weak D type 42 (368/2105, 17.5%). These patients are currently considered D with regard to RhD immunoprophylaxis in pregnancy and transfusion. The goal of this study was to retrospectively evaluate the risk of alloimmunization in weak D type 42 patients and to characterize their RhD surface molecule expression on red blood cells (RBCs) in comparison to other weak D types (1, 2 and 3). MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective analysis using the weak D type 42 patients' medical data to verify potential anti-D alloimmunization events was conducted. Quantitative analyses using flow cytometry were also performed on RBCs to quantify the cell surface density of the D antigen. RESULTS: Data on 215 subjects with weak D type 42 were reviewed. None developed immune allo-anti-D; three had definite exposure to D+ red cells and 41 had possible exposure through pregnancy. Flow cytometry analysis showed that weak D types 1, 2, 3 and 42 had relative antigen densities of 2.7%, 2.2%, 8.1% and 3.6%, respectively, with R1R2 red cells referencing 100% density. The estimated antigen density range of weak D type 42 was 819-1104 sites per RBC. CONCLUSION: Our retrospective alloimmunization data analysis and antigen density study establish a basis for the consideration of a weak D type 42 individual as D+. This consideration would allow for a targeted reduction of RhD immunoprophylaxis in pregnancy and the unjustified use of D- units for transfusion.

BACKGROUND: Attenuation correction (AC) using hardware and software solutions has been shown to increase the specificity of SPECT MPI by decreasing false positive results and improving prognostic ability. Theoretically this should reduce downstream testing and unnecessary costs. We sought to assess the consequences of the use of Gd-153 scanning line source attenuation correction during SPECT myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) on downstream invasive testing. METHODS: All patients who underwent a clinically indicated Tc-99m stress SPECT MPI study from 2013 to 2015 at five hospitals (2 with AC and 3 without) were retrospectively reviewed. Patient demographics, results of testing, subsequent coronary angiography within 3 months, and revascularization were recorded. The results of the MPI studies, downstream angiogram utilization, and results of angiography were compared and a propensity matched subgroup analysis was performed. RESULTS: A total of 9968 patients underwent SPECT MPI during the study time period (6106 performed with AC and 3862 without). Out of 3928 patients included in the propensity matched cohort, there was no difference in the proportion of abnormal MPI results between the two groups (31.5% vs 30.4%, P = 0.47), however, more patients underwent coronary angiography within 90 days in the AC group (10.6% vs 8.7%, P = 0.05). There was no significant difference in the proportion of patients with angiographically significant obstructive disease (53.4% vs 56.1%, P = 0.19), however, fewer patients in the AC group with obstructive coronary disease were revascularized (36.1% vs 46.8%, P = 0.04). The findings remained consistent after sub-group analysis in patients without known coronary disease. CONCLUSION: The use of scanning line source AC did not meaningfully influence the rate of abnormal MPI results or downstream invasive testing in this cohort. The clinical utility of scanning line source AC may be limited to facilitating stress-first imaging protocols.

This study investigated the effects of neonatal exposure to methoxychlor (MXC), a synthetic organochlorine used as an insecticide with estrogenic, antiestrogenic, and antiandrogenic activities, on luteal function in pigs. Piglets were injected subcutaneously with MXC (20 µg/kg body weight) or corn oil (control) between postnatal Days 1 and 10 (N = 5/group). Corpora lutea from sexually mature gilts were examined for luteal steroid and prostaglandin concentrations and processed for total RNA isolation and subsequent RNA sequencing. Intra-luteal concentrations of androstenedione and prostaglandin E2 were greater, while that of estrone was lower when compared to control. Fifty-three differentially expressed (DE) microRNAS (miRNAs) (p-adjusted <.05 and log2(fold change) ≥.5) and 359 DE genes (p-adjusted <.05 and log2(fold change) ≥1) were identified in luteal tissue in response to neonatal MXC treatment. MXC was found to affect the expression of genes related to lipogenesis, steroidogenesis, membrane transport, immune response, cell signaling and adhesion. These results suggest an earlier onset of structural luteolysis in pigs caused by MXC actions in neonates. Since negative correlation analysis showed the potential interactions of miRNAs with specific messenger RNAs, we propose that these miRNAs are potential mediators of the long-term MXC effect on the CL function in pigs.

BACKGROUND: The determination of the RhD phenotype is crucial to avoid alloimmunization, especially in childbearing women. Following the 2015 recommendation from the Work Group on RHD Genotyping, a large-scale RHD genotyping program was implemented in the province of Quebec (Canada) and offered to women ≤45 years old with a serological weak D or discordant results. Since weak D type 42 was previously shown to be prevalent among French Canadians, genotyping for that variant was also performed. Our aim was to report the prevalence of the weak D alleles in the province of Quebec. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: A retrospective study of 2105 women with serological weak D referred to Hema-Quebec's immunohematology reference laboratory (IRL) between June 2016 and May 2020 was conducted. Results from the serological tests performed by the referring hospital were compiled and RHD were genotyped. RESULTS: Most patients presented at least one serological result ≤2+ before being referred to Hema-Quebec. Weak D type 42 was the most prevalent variant, representing 17.5% (368/2105) of all individuals tested. Only 15.3% (323/2105) of patients were weak D type 1, 3.3% (69/2105) were type 2, and 8.6% (180/2105) were type 3. Weak D type 42 is highly expressed in regions with low immigration rate and known for their founder effect. CONCLUSION: Our RHD genotyping program allowed for a better management of weak D. The province of Quebec presents a unique RHD genotype distribution. We confirmed that weak D type 42 is associated with a founder effect found in Caucasian French Canadians.

INTRODUCTION: There is a paucity of data evaluating the impact of heart rate (HR) during Targeted Temperature Management (TTM) and neurologic outcomes. Current resuscitation guidelines do not specify a HR goal during TTM. We sought to determine the relationship between HR and neurologic outcomes in a single-center registry dataset. METHODS: We retrospectively studied 432 consecutive patients who completed TTM (33°C) after cardiac arrest from 2008 to 2017. We evaluated the relationship between neurologic outcomes and HR during TTM. Pittsburgh Cerebral Performance Categories (CPC) at discharge were used to determine neurological recovery. Statistical analysis included chi square, Student's t-test and Mann-Whitney U. A logistic regression model was created to evaluate the strength of contribution of selected variables on the outcome of interest. RESULTS: Approximately 94,000 HR data points from 432 patients were retrospectively analyzed; the mean HR was 82.17 bpm over the duration of TTM. Favorable neurological outcomes were seen in 160 (37%) patients. The mean HR in the patients with a favorable outcome was lower than the mean HR of those with an unfavorable outcome (79.98 bpm vs 85.67 bpm p < 0.001). Patients with an average HR of 60-91 bpm were 2.4 times more likely to have a favorable neurological outcome compared to than HR's < 60 or > 91 (odds ratio [OR] = 2.36, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.61-3.46, p < 0.001). Specifically, mean HR's in the 73-82 bpm range had the greatest rate of favorable outcomes (OR 3.56, 95% CI 1.95-6.50), p < 0.001. Administration of epinephrine, a history of diabetes mellitus and hypertension all were associated with worse neurological outcomes independent of HR. CONCLUSION: During TTM, mean HRs between 60-91 showed a positive association with favorable outcomes. It is unclear whether a specific HR should be targeted during TTM or if heart rates between 60-91 bpm might be a sign of less neurological damage.

Background and Objectives: Tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) is proatherogenic and associated with the risk of acute ischemic events, although the mechanisms that regulate TNF-α expression in stable coronary artery disease (SCAD) are not fully understood. We investigated whether metabolic, inflammatory, and epigenetic (microRNA (miRNA)) markers are associated with TNF-α expression in SCAD. Materials and Methods: Patients with SCAD were prospectively recruited and their metabolic and inflammatory profiles were assessed. TNF-α levels were assessed using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The relative expression of six circulating miRNAs associated with the regulation of inflammation and/or atherosclerosis was determined. Results: Of the 24 included patients with the mean age of 65 (9) years, 88% were male, and 54% were diabetic. The TNF-α levels were (median (interquartile range)) 1.0 (0.7-1.1) pg/mL. The percentage of glycosylated hemoglobin (r = 0.418, p = 0.042), serum triglyceride levels (r = 0.429, p = 0.037), and C-reactive protein levels (r = 0.407, p = 0.048) were positively correlated with TNF-α levels. Of the candidate miRNAs, miR-146a expression levels were negatively correlated with TNF-α levels (as indicated by r = 0.500, p = 0.035 for correlation between delta cycle threshold (ΔCt) miR-146a and TNF-α levels). In multivariate analysis, serum triglyceride levels and miR-146a expression levels were independently associated with TNF-α levels. miR-146 expression levels were not associated with metabolic or other inflammatory parameters and were negatively correlated with the number of coronary vessels with obstructive disease (as indicated by r = 0.556, p = 0.017 for correlation between ΔCt miR-146a and number of diseased vessels). Conclusions: miR-146a expression levels were negatively correlated with TNF-α levels in patients with SCAD, irrespective of other metabolic or inflammatory markers, and with the severity of coronary artery disease. The results add to the knowledge on the role of miR-146a in TNF-α-based inflammation in SCAD and support future research on the potential therapeutic use of miR-146a in such a clinical scenario.

The transcription factor STAT5 is critical for peripheral NK-cell survival, proliferation, and cytotoxic function. STAT5 refers to two highly related proteins, STAT5A and STAT5B. In this study, we verified the importance of STAT5A isoform for NK cells. We characterized an incidental chemically induced W484G mutation in the Stat5a gene and found that this mutation was associated with a reduction of STAT5A protein expression. Closer examination of NK-cell subsets from Stat5a mutant mice showed marked reductions in NK-cell number and maturation. IL-15 treatment of Stat5a mutant NK cells exhibited defective induction of both STAT5 and mTOR signaling pathways and reduced expression of granzyme B and IFN-γ. Finally, we observed that Stat5a mutant mice revealed more tumor growth upon injection of RMA-S tumor cell line. Overall, our results demonstrate that the W484G mutation in the linker domain of STAT5A is sufficient to compromise STAT5A function in NK-cell homeostasis, responsiveness, and tumoricidal function.

BACKGROUND: Studies suggest that patients who present with atypical chest pain and are low or low-intermediate risk can safely undergo a rapid rule-out for cardiac ischemia with serial ECGs and cardiac biomarkers followed by additional testing as needed. We sought to evaluate a novel Emergency Department (ED) protocol for patients to undergo their additional functional testing as an outpatient. METHODS: Patients presenting to the ED with atypical chest pain, normal ECG, and negative cardiac troponin felt to be low risk were referred for outpatient stress testing within 72 hours of presentation as part of a pilot program. We analyzed test characteristics, length of stay, and 30-day return visits to ED in the pilot group and compared results to a similar cohort assessed in the ED by a traditional chest pain observation protocol. RESULTS: A total of 156 patients were included over a 5-month period with 29.5% not returning for testing. There was a 70% reduction in length of stay for outpatient stress test protocol patients. All-cause and cardiac return visits to the ED were not significantly different between the outpatient cohort and the traditional chest pain unit group and were reduced by 47 and 75%, respectively, in patients who completed their outpatient testing. The provisional injection protocol resulted in a 81% reduction in radiation exposure when compared to traditional MPI stress protocols due to a greater utilization of exercise treadmill tests without imaging. CONCLUSION: Outpatient stress testing is a reliable alternative to traditional chest pain observation with a significantly shorter length of stay, reduced healthcare costs, and improved radiation safety profile for patients when compared to traditional inpatient observation.

RESUMO

The transcriptional complexity generated by the human genomic output is within the core of cell and organ physiology, but also could be in the origin of pathologies. In cardiovascular diseases, the role of specific families of RNA transcripts belonging to the group of the non-coding RNAs started to be unveiled in the last two decades. The knowledge of the functional rules and roles of non-coding RNAs in the context of cardiovascular diseases is an important factor to derive new diagnostic methods, but also to design targeted therapeutic strategies. The characterization and analysis of ncRNA function requires a deep knowledge of the regulatory mechanism of these RNA species that often relies on intricated interaction networks. The use of specific bioinformatic tools to interrogate biological data and to derive functional implications is particularly relevant and needs to be extended to the general practice of translational researchers. This chapter briefly summarizes the bioinformatic tools and strategies that could be used for the characterization and functional analysis of non-coding RNAs, with special emphasis in their applications to the cardiovascular field.

RESUMO

Non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) are important regulatory players in human cells that have been shown to modulate different cellular processes and biological functions through controlling gene expression, being also involved in pathological conditions such as cardiovascular diseases. Among them, long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and circular (circRNAs) could act as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) sequestering other ncRNAs. This entangled network of interactions has been reported to trigger the decay of the targeted ncRNAs having important roles in gene regulation. Growing evidences have been demonstrated that the regulatory mechanism underlying the crosstalk between different ncRNA species, namely lncRNAs, circRNAs and miRNAs has also an important role in the pathophysiological processes of cardiovascular diseases. In this chapter, the main regulatory relationship among lncRNAs, circRNAs and miRNAs were summarized and their role in the control and development of cardiovascular diseases was highlighted.

Complex organisms are associations of different cells that coexist and collaborate creating a living consortium, the holobiont. The relationships between the holobiont members are essential for proper homeostasis of the organisms, and they are founded on the establishment of complex inter-connections between all the cells. Non-coding RNAs are regulatory molecules that can also act as communication signals between cells, being involved in either homeostasis or dysbiosis of the holobionts. Eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells can transmit signals via non-coding RNAs while using specific extracellular conveyors that travel to the target cell and can be translated into a regulatory response by dedicated molecular machinery. Within holobionts, non-coding RNA regulatory signaling is involved in symbiotic and pathogenic relationships among the cells. This review analyzes current knowledge regarding the role of non-coding RNAs in cell-to-cell communication, with a special focus on the signaling between cells in multi-organism consortia.

RESUMO

Non-coding regulatory RNAs are generated as a core output of the eukaryotic genomes, being essential players in cell biology. At the organism level, they are key functional actors in those tissues and organs with limited proliferation capabilities such as the heart. The role of regulatory networks mediated by non-coding RNAs in the pathophysiology of cardiovascular conditions is starting to be unveiled. However, a deeper knowledge of the functional interactions among the diverse non-coding RNA families and their phenotypic consequences is required. This review presents the current knowledge about the functional crosstalk between circRNAs and other biomolecules in the framework of the cardiovascular diseases.

BACKGROUND: It is unknown whether warfarin or aspirin therapy is superior for patients with heart failure who are in sinus rhythm. METHODS: We designed this trial to determine whether warfarin (with a target international normalized ratio of 2.0 to 3.5) or aspirin (at a dose of 325 mg per day) is a better treatment for patients in sinus rhythm who have a reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). We followed 2305 patients for up to 6 years (mean [±SD], 3.5±1.8). The primary outcome was the time to the first event in a composite end point of ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, or death from any cause. RESULTS: The rates of the primary outcome were 7.47 events per 100 patient-years in the warfarin group and 7.93 in the aspirin group (hazard ratio with warfarin, 0.93; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.79 to 1.10; P=0.40). Thus, there was no significant overall difference between the two treatments. In a time-varying analysis, the hazard ratio changed over time, slightly favoring warfarin over aspirin by the fourth year of follow-up, but this finding was only marginally significant (P=0.046). Warfarin, as compared with aspirin, was associated with a significant reduction in the rate of ischemic stroke throughout the follow-up period (0.72 events per 100 patient-years vs. 1.36 per 100 patient-years; hazard ratio, 0.52; 95% CI, 0.33 to 0.82; P=0.005). The rate of major hemorrhage was 1.78 events per 100 patient-years in the warfarin group as compared with 0.87 in the aspirin group (P<0.001). The rates of intracerebral and intracranial hemorrhage did not differ significantly between the two treatment groups (0.27 events per 100 patient-years with warfarin and 0.22 with aspirin, P=0.82). CONCLUSIONS: Among patients with reduced LVEF who were in sinus rhythm, there was no significant overall difference in the primary outcome between treatment with warfarin and treatment with aspirin. A reduced risk of ischemic stroke with warfarin was offset by an increased risk of major hemorrhage. The choice between warfarin and aspirin should be individualized. PURPOSE: To determine if significant differences exist in consent rates for biospecimen storage and continuing studies between non-Hispanic Whites and minority ethnic groups in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). METHODS: Using logistic regression, we analyzed 2011-2012 NHANES data to determine whether race/ethnicity, age, gender, and education level influence consent to specimen storage or future testing. RESULTS: Compared to non-Hispanic Whites, some minorities were less willing to donate a specimen for storage and continuing studies, including other Hispanics (non-Mexican) (OR 0.236, 95% CI: 0.079, 0.706), non-Hispanic Asians (OR 0.212, 95% CI: 0.074, 0.602), and other/multiracial ethnic groups (OR 0.189, 95% CI: 0.037, 0.957). Within race and ethnic groups, those aged 20-39 years (OR 2.215, 95% CI: 1.006-4.879) and 40-59 years (OR 9.375, 95% CI: 2.163-40.637) are more willing than those over 60 years to provide consent. CONCLUSION: Lower consent rates by other Hispanics, non-Hispanic Asians, and other/multiracial individuals in this study represent the first published comparison of consent rates among these groups to our knowledge. To best meet the health care needs of this segment of the population and to aid in designing future genetic studies, reassessment of ethnic minority groups concerning these issues is important.
