RESUMO

Fraxinus hubeiensis is a plant endemic to China and widely used as folk medicine to treat various diseases. However, its chemical constituents have never been reported sufficiently. Thus, the primary objective of this study was to investigate the phytochemical constituents and biological activities of F. hubeiensis leaves. Hence, combined column chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques were used to identify and characterize the secondary metabolites such as a pair of 3-keto-glycoside epimers (1) and (2), along with five known compounds (3 ~ 7). The results of α-glucosidase inhibitory activity exhibited that 1 and 2 had moderate activity with IC50 values of 359.50 and 468.43 µM, respectively, compared to a positive control acarbose with the IC50 value of 164.08 µM. However, Compounds 1-6 were shown to be inactive against the tested microbes.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the relationship of Chinese medicine syndrome pattern with urinary albumin excretion rate (UAER) and its related factors in patients with diabetic nephropathy (DN). METHODS: Sixty-three early stage DN patients were subjected to the study, the Chinese medicine syndrome patterns were differentiated, and their condition of methylene tetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) C677T mutation was detected (shown by gene polymorphism of 677 base pairs). Meantime, plasma levels of homocysteine (Hcy), folic acid, fasting and postprandial glucose (FG and PG), glycohemoglobin (HbA1c), blood lipids as well as UAER were measured. RESULTS: Syndrome pattern was differentiated as yin-deficiency with heat-flourishing in 17 patients, qi-yin deficiency in 24, and yin-yang deficiency in 22; while accompanied blood stasis syndrome (BSS) was found in 35. Gene polymorphism detection indicated that 19 patients were of CC-type, 17 of TT-type, and 27 of CT-type. Analysis showed that higher UAER level often revealed in patients with BSS, as compared with that in patients of non-BS pattern, the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). UAER levels in patients of different genotypes were insignificantly different (P > 0.05), but showed a linear regressive relation, namely positively correlated with Hcy level in patients of isogeneic type (r = 0.674, P < 0.05). No statistical significance was found between levels of UAER and other related factors (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: UAER level in early stage DN patients of BSS pattern is rather higher, and it shows a linear regression relationship (positive correlation) with Hcy level in patients of isogeneic type.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the therapeutic effects of Qianlie Huazhuo Capsule (QHC) on patients with chronic prostatitis of dampness-heat stagnancy type (CP-DHS). METHODS: Sixty-five patients were randomly assigned to the treatment group (32 cases) treated with QHC and the control group (33 cases) treated with Qianlie Jiedu Capsule, for 1 month respectively. The clinical efficacy was evaluated at the end of the 2nd and 4th month, their quality of life (QOL) was estimated by NIH Chronic Prostatitis Syndrome Index (NIH-CPSI) and patients' capacity was estimated by SF-12 scale as well. RESULTS: Out of patients in the treatment group, 2 got cured, notable effect showed in 15, effective in 9, and ineffective in 6, the total effective rate being 81.2%, while in the 33 patients of the control group, 2 got cured, notable effect in 5, effective in 13 and ineffective in 13, the total effective rate 60.6%, the difference between the two groups was statistically significant in the total efficacy (P < 0.05). As compared with the control group, the NIH-CPSI score for QOL was significantly lower, SF-12 physical capacity score was better in the treatment group (both P < 0.05), and SF-12 mental capacity score in the two groups showed insignificant difference. CONCLUSION: QHC could obtain good effect for the treatment of CP-DHS.
