RESUMO

To improve the photoelectrochemical (PEC) performance of photocatalysts, the doping strategy through covalent functionalization is often adopted to adjust material electronic structures. By contrast, this work demonstrates that the noncovalent interaction in the case of iodinated graphitic carbon nitride (g-CN) film can also enhance the PEC performance. Through a facile synthesis method of rapid thermal vapor condensation (RTVC), the prepared iodinated g-CN film shows a significantly improved photocurrent density (38.9 µA cm-2 ), three times that of pure g-CN film (13.0 µA cm-2 ) at 1.23 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode. Computations reveal that the noncovalent attachment of iodine anion (I- ) on g-CN plays a crucial role in modulating the bandgap states and broadening of the visible-light absorption range as well as the charge carrier separation with the photo-induced hole confined to I- and electron to g-CN film. The fully filled valence orbitals (4d10 5s2 5p6 ) of I- determine its noncovalent attachment on the g-CN film and so do the iodine species of I3 - , I5 - , etc. This work offers a favorable synthesis method to achieve efficient doping through noncovalent charge transfer between thin film and certain dopants and provides a useful modification strategy for the establishment of multi-channel transportation of charge carriers in general photocatalysts.

Hydrogenated black TiO2 is receiving ever-increasing attention, primarily due to its ability to capture low-energy photons in the solar spectrum and its highly efficient redox reactivity for solar-driven water splitting. However, in-depth physical insight into the redox reactivity is still missing. In this work, we conducted a density functional theory study with Hubbard U correction (DFT+U) based on the model obtained from spectroscopic and aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy (AC-STEM) characterizations to reveal the synergy among H heteroatoms located at different surface sites where the six-coordinated Ti (Ti6C) atom is converted from an inert trapping site to a site for the interchange of photoexcited electrons. This in-depth understanding may be applicable to the rational design of highly efficient solar-light-harvesting catalysts.

Introducing band gap states to TiO2 photocatalysts is an efficient strategy for expanding the range of accessible energy available in the solar spectrum. However, few approaches are able to introduce band gap states and improve photocatalytic performance simultaneously. Introducing band gap states by creating surface disorder can incapacitate reactivity where unambiguous adsorption sites are a prerequisite. An alternative method for introduction of band gap states is demonstrated in which selected heteroatoms are implanted at preferred surface sites. Theoretical prediction and experimental verification reveal that the implanted heteroatoms not only introduce band gap states without creating surface disorder, but also function as active sites for the CrVI reduction reaction. This promising approach may be applicable to the surfaces of other solar harvesting materials where engineered band gap states could be used to tune photophysical and -catalytic properties.

Introduction: This meta-analysis seeks to evaluate the efficacy and safety of endoscopic breast-conserving surgery (E-BCS) compared to conventional breast cancer surgery (C-BCS) in patients diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer. Materials and methods: Four databases (Medline, Embase, Web of Science and CENTRAL) were searched published from establishment of database to January 30,2024, for articles studying E-BCS compared to C-BCS in patients diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer. Meta-analyses of procedure time, blood loss, length of incision, drainage duration, total postoperative drainage volume, average duration of hospital stay, positive rate of margin, complication rate, recurrence rate, metastasis rate and cosmetic scoring were performed. Results: Totally 11 studies were included for meta-analysis. Compared with C-BCS, E-BCS exhibited significantly reduced incision length (WMD = -6.44, 95%CI: -10.78 to -2.11, P=0.004, I2 = 99.0%) and superior cosmetic scoring (WMD = 2.69, 95%CI: 1.46 to 3.93, P=0.001, I2 = 93.2%), but had significantly longer operation time (WMD = 34.22, 95%CI: 20.89~47.55, P=0.000, I2 = 90.7%) and blood loss (WMD = 3.65, 95%CI: -3.12 to 10.43, P=0.291, I2 = 86.8%). There was no significant difference in terms of recurrence rate, metastasis rate, positive rate of tumor resection margins, drainage duration, drainage volume, complication rate and hospital days. Conclusions: Our research findings indicate that E-BCS is a viable and secure method for treating breast cancer in its early stages. E-BCS provides distinct advantages in terms of the length of the incision and the aesthetic result, without demonstrating an elevated recurrence rate or metastasis rate. Introduction: The objective of this systematic review and network meta-analysis (NMA) is to assess the effectiveness and safety of various neoadjuvant treatment protocols in individuals diagnosed with hormone receptor-positive, her2 negative(HR+/HER2-) breast cancer. Materials and methods: A systematic search was conducted in four databases (Medline, Embase, Web of Science, and CENTRAL) from the inception of the databases to January 16, 2024, to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to various neoadjuvant therapy options in patients diagnosed with hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer. A network meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate pathological complete response (pCR). Results: There were 17 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) included in the analysis. These trials examined 16 different treatment regimens and involved a total of 5752 participants. The analysis revealed that the six most effective neoadjuvant treatment regimens for HR+/HER2- breast cancer were: CT(A)+olaparib (82.5%), CT(A)+nivolumab (76.5%), Com (74.9%), CT (72.1%), Mono+eribulin (72.0%), and CT(A)+pembrolizumab (70.4%).Paired meta-analysis for pathological complete response (pCR) found no statistically significant distinction between treatment regimens that included both anthracycline and immunosuppressants and regimens that relied solely on anthracycline chemotherapy(OR:1.14, 95%ci 0.79-1.64, I2 = 71%, P=0.50). Similarly, there was no significant difference between platinum-based chemotherapy and anthracycline-basedchemotherapy(OR:1.37, 95%ci 0.53- 3.56, I2 = 11%, P=0.52). With regards to safety, adverse effects of grade 3-5 were observed, which included haematological toxicity, gastrointestinal reactions, skin and mucous membrane reactions, neuropathy, hepatotoxicity, and cardiac disorders. Conclusions: The CT(A)+Olaparib and CT(A)+nivolumab groups demonstrated superior efficacy in neoadjuvant therapy for HR+/HER2- breast cancer. Furthermore, it is crucial to focus on effectively managing the adverse effects of the treatment plan to enhance patient's ability to tolerate it. Given the constraints of the current research, additional well-executed and suitable RCTs are necessary to validate the findings of this investigation. Although pCR is valuable in assessing the effect of neoadjuvant therapy in some cases, prognostic prediction and efficacy assessment in patients with HR+/HER2- breast cancer should be based on a combination of broader clinical and biological characteristics. Introduction: This meta-analysis aims to evaluate the complications associated with prepectoral breast reconstruction (PBR) compared to subpectoral breast reconstruction (SBR) in patients diagnosed with breast cancer. Materials and methods: A comprehensive search was performed in four databases, including Medline, Embase, Web of Science and CENTRAL, to collect literature published up until December 31, 2024. In addition, we conducted a thorough manual examination of the bibliographies of the identified papers, as well as pertinent reviews and meta-analyses. We conducted a search on three clinical trial registries, namely ClinicalTrials.gov, Controlled-trials.com, and Umin.ac.jp/ctr/index.htm. Meta-analyses were conducted on total complications, hematoma, infection, wound healing issues, necrosis, capsular contracture, rippling, animation deformity, and reoperation. Results: A total of 40 studies were included in the meta-analysis. Compared with SBR, PBR significantly reduced the incidence of animated malformations (OR=0.37, 95% CI: 0.19 to 0.70, P=0.003, I ²=12%), but increased the incidence of ripples (OR=2.39, 95% CI: 1.53 to 3.72, P=0.0001, I ²=10%) and seroma (OR=1.55, 95% CI: 1.02 to 2.35, P=0.04, increasing I ²=70%). Conclusions: Our findings indicate that PBR and SBR have comparable safety profiles, with similar total complication rates. Specifically, PBR is more likely to cause rippling and seroma, whereas SBR is more prone to causing animation deformity. RESUMO

The photoelectrochemical (PEC) performance of bismuth vanadate (BiVO4) suffers from sluggish charge mobility and substantial charge recombination losses due to its intrinsic defect. To rectify the problem, we developed a novel approach to prepare an n-n+ type II BVOac-BVOal homojunction with staggered band alignment. This architecture involves a built-in electric field that facilitating the electron-hole separation at the BVOac/BVOal interface. As a result, the BVOac-BVOal homojunction shows superior photocurrent density up to 3.6 mA/cm2 at 1.23 V vs. reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) with 0.1 M sodium sulfite as the hole scavenger, which is 3 times higher than that of the single-layer BiVO4 photoanode. Unlike the previous efforts that modifying the PEC performance of BiVO4 photoanodes through incorporating heteroatoms, the highly-efficient BVOac-BVOal homojunction was achieved without incorporating any heteroatoms in this work. The remarkable PEC activity of the BVOac-BVOal homojunction highlights the tremendous importance of reducing the charge recombination rate at the interface by constructing the homojunction and offers an effective strategy to form the heteroatoms-free BiVO4 thin film as an efficient photoanode material for practical PEC applications.

Introduction: This meta-analysis aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of neoadjuvant PD-1 inhibitors or PD-L1 inhibitors [PD-(L)1 inhibitors] for muscle-invasive bladder carcinoma (MIBC). Materials and methods: Four databases (Medline, Embase, Web of Science, and 21 CENTRAL) were searched for articles studying neoadjuvant PD-(L)1 inhibitors for MIBC. The search time period was from the establishment of each database to 21 July 2023. Meta-analyses of pCR, pPR, Grade≥ 3 irAEs rate, RFS, and OS were performed. Results: In total, 22 studies were included for meta-analysis. The overall pooled pCR of neoadjuvant PD-(L)1 inhibitors was 0.36 (95%CI=0.30-0.42, p=0.00). In subgroup meta-analysis, the pooled PCR of PD-(L)1 inhibitors alone, PD-(L)1 inhibitors plus other ICI, and PD-(L)1 inhibitors plus chemotherapy was 0.27 (95%CI=0.19-0.35, p=0.1), 0.41 (95%CI=0.21-0.62, p=0.01), 0.43 (95%CI=0.35-0.50, p=0.06), respectively. The overall pooled pPR of neoadjuvant PD-(L)1 inhibitors was 0.53 (95%CI=0.46-0.60, p=0.00). In subgroup meta-analysis, the pooled pPR of PD-(L)1 inhibitors alone, PD-(L)1 inhibitors plus other ICI, and PD-(L)1 inhibitors plus chemotherapy was 0.36 (95%CI=0.22-0.51, p=0.01), 0.51 (95%CI=0.39-0.62, p=0.43), and 0.61 (95%CI=0.53-0.69, p=0.01), respectively. Kaplan-Meier curves for OS and RFS were reconstructed, but there was no significant difference among three groups in terms of OS or RFS. The pooled result of Grade≥ 3 irAEs rate for neoadjuvant PD-(L)1 inhibitors was 0.15 (95%CI=0.09-0.22, p=0.00%). In subgroup analysis, the pooled result of Grade≥ 3 irAEs rate for PD-(L)1 inhibitors alone, PD-(L)1 inhibitors plus other ICI, and PD-(L)1 inhibitors plus chemotherapy was 0.07 (95%CI=0.04-0.11, p=0.84), 0.31 (95%CI=0.16-0.47, p=0.06), and 0.17 (95%CI=0.06-0.31, I2 = 71.27%, p=0.01), respectively. Conclusion: Neoadjuvant PD-(L)1 inhibitors were feasible and safe for muscle invasive bladder cancer. Compared with PD-(L)1 inhibitors alone, PD-(L)1 inhibitors plus other ICI and PD-(L)1 inhibitors plus chemotherapy were associated with higher pCR and pPR, but higher Grade≥3 irAEs. Kaplan-Meier curves for OS and RFS indicated that neoadjuvant PD-(L)1 inhibitors had an acceptable long-term prognostic, but it was not possible to discern statistical differences between the three neoadjuvant subgroups. Graphitic carbon nitride (g-CN) has been widely studied as a promising candidate for water splitting, owing to its metal-free nature, moderate band gap, and low cost. However, its photocurrent density is still very low for photoelectrochemical cell applications. In this work, a crystal face tailored g-CN photoelectrode has been fabricated by a facile thermal vapor deposition method. We use the melamine formaldehyde resin as a new precursor and have successfully fabricated g-CN films. The intensity ratio between two typical peaks (100) and (001) of g-CN is very different from that in the existing literature. The water splitting photocurrent density is as high as 228.2 µA cm-2 , which is 126.8 times higher than pure g-CN (1.8 µA cm-2 ) at 1.23 V vs. reversible hydrogen electrodes under one sun illumination without sacrificial reagents and co-catalysts. The electrode shows the best performance, compared with the previously reported g-CN photoelectrodes.
