RESUMO

X-ray tomography has been widely used in various research fields thanks to its capability of observing 3D structures with high resolution non-destructively. However, due to the nonlinearity and inconsistency of detector pixels, ring artifacts usually appear in tomographic reconstruction, which may compromise image quality and cause nonuniform bias. This study proposes a new ring artifact correction method based on the residual neural network (ResNet) for X-ray tomography. The artifact correction network uses complementary information of each wavelet coefficient and a residual mechanism of the residual block to obtain high-precision artifacts through low operation costs. In addition, a regularization term is used to accurately extract stripe artifacts in sinograms, so that the network can better preserve image details while accurately separating artifacts. When applied to simulation and experimental data, the proposed method shows a good suppression of ring artifacts. To solve the problem of insufficient training data, ResNet is trained through the transfer learning strategy, which brings advantages of robustness, versatility and low computing cost.

RESUMO

Black TiO2 formed by introducing lattice disorder into pristine TiO2 has a narrowed band gap and suppresses the recombination of charge carriers. This provides a potential strategy for visible light photocatalysis. However, the microstructural design of black TiO2 for a higher optimization of visible light is still in high demand. In this work, we proposed the preparation of black TiO2 hollow shells with controllable cavity diameters using silica spheres as templates for the cavities and the NaBH4 reduction method. The decreased cavity size resulted in a hollow shell with an enhanced visible-light absorption and improved photocatalytic performance. Moreover, we demonstrated that this cavity can be combined with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) to form AuNPs@black TiO2 yolk-shells. The AuNPs provided additional visible light absorption and promoted the separation of photogenerated carriers in the yolk-shell structures. This further improved the photocatalysis, the degradation rate of Cr(VI) can reach 0.066 min-1. Our work evaluated the effect of the cavity size on the photocatalytic performance of hollow and yolk-shell structures and provided concepts for the further enhancement of visible-light photocatalysis.

RESUMO

Exceptional points (EPs) of non-Hermitian systems are gaining more and more attention due to their important applications in unidirectional transmitters, sensors, etc. However, theoretical studies on EPs of reflection, transmission, and absorption spectra are less available. In this paper, in the dark-bright mode-coupled plasmonic systems, the variations of EPs of reflection, transmission, and absorption spectra are numerically investigated using temporal coupled-mode theory, and an assumption is given using the representation transformation theory. The intermediate representation (IR) is firstly proposed and related to the reflection spectrum, while the normal representation (NR) is associated with the absorption spectrum. In the region far from EPs, the IR (or NR) describes the reflection (or absorption) spectrum well. Near EPs, modified formulas similar to the representation transformation theory are given. In order to verify the correctness of the assumption, two metasurfaces are designed. And the simulation results are in good agreement with the assumption and it is found in the near-infrared and visible-light band that the absorption loss of the dark mode is linearly related to the EPs of reflection, transmission, and absorption spectra, while the radiation loss of the bright mode is only linearly related to the EPs of the absorption spectrum. These laws can help to manipulate the splitting of spectral lines for reflection, transmission, and absorption by adjusting the radiation loss and absorption loss of bright mode, the absorption loss of dark mode, and the coupling coefficients between two resonant modes. This research provides a guiding scheme for the design of micro and nano photonics devices.

RESUMO

The implementation of Terahertz (THz) modulation is critical for applications in high-speed wireless communications, security screening and so on. Therefore, it is particularly significant to obtain THz wave modulation devices with stable and flexible performance, easy manipulation of the modulation method, and multi-functionality. Here, we propose a flexible all-dielectric metamaterial by embedding zirconia (ZrO2) microspheres into a vanadium dioxide/polydimethylsiloxane (VO2/PDMS) composite, which can achieve thermal and mechanical tuning of THz wave transmission. When the temperature of the ZrO2/VO2/PDMS metamaterial increases, VO2 changes from the insulating phase to the metallic phase, and the 1st (at 0.304 THz) and 2nd (at 0.414 THz) order magnetic resonances exhibit the tunability of 20 GHz and 15 GHz, respectively. When stretched, the 1st and 2nd order magnetic resonances show the tunability of 12 GHz and 10 GHz, respectively. In the meantime, there are accompanying changes in transmittance at the resonances. The ZrO2/VO2/PDMS all-dielectric metamaterial presented in this work provides an alternative strategy for developing actively tunable, flexible, and versatile THz devices. In addition, it has the merits of simple preparation and low cost, promising large-area and rapid preparation of meta-arrays.

RESUMO

Exploring flexible electronics is on the verge of innovative breakthroughs in terahertz (THz) communication technology. Vanadium dioxide (VO2) with insulator-metal transition (IMT) has excellent application potential in various THz smart devices, but the associated THz modulation properties in the flexible state have rarely been reported. Herein, we deposited an epitaxial VO2 film on a flexible mica substrate via pulsed-laser deposition and investigated its THz modulation properties under different uniaxial strains across the phase transition. It was observed that the THz modulation depth increases under compressive strain and decreases under tensile strain. Moreover, the phase-transition threshold depends on the uniaxial strain. Particularly, the rate of the phase transition temperature depends on the uniaxial strain and reaches approximately 6 °C/% in the temperature-induced phase transition. The optical trigger threshold in laser-induced phase transition decreased by 38.9% under compressive strain but increased by 36.7% under tensile strain, compared to the initial state without uniaxial strain. These findings demonstrate the uniaxial strain-induced low-power triggered THz modulation and provide new insights for applying phase transition oxide films in THz flexible electronics.

RESUMO

The plasmonic shift of resonance wavelength induced by near-field coupling enables one to measure nanoscale distances optically. Empirically, the well-known ruler equation correlating plasmon shift with interparticle spacing was proposed. Though it has been widely used in analyzing simulation and experimental outcomes, little is known about the underlying physical mechanism of the characteristic exponential form of the plasmon ruler equation and the universal decay constant therein. In this work, we attempt to decrypt these from the perspective of plasmon near-field enhancement. Based on an analytical quasi-normal mode formula for plasmon shifts, we proved that the exponential decaying electric field is the critical reason that results in the exponential form of the plasmon ruler equation and quantitatively, we found that the universal decay constant in the plasmon ruler equation actually reflects the range of the enhanced near field. This work hopefully helps to deepen the understanding of the mechanism of light-matter interaction in corresponding plasmonic processes.

RESUMO

Driven by the development of X-ray optics, the spatial resolution of the full-field transmission X-ray microscope (TXM) has reached tens of nanometers and plays an important role in promoting the development of biomedicine and materials science. However, due to the thermal drift and the radial/axial motion error of the rotation stage, TXM computed tomography (CT) data are often associated with random image jitter errors along the horizontal and vertical directions during CT measurement. A nano-resolution 3D structure information reconstruction is almost impossible without a prior appropriate alignment process. To solve this problem, a fully automatic gold particle marker-based alignment approach without human intervention was proposed in this study. It can automatically detect, isolate, and register gold particles for projection image alignment with high efficiency and accuracy, facilitating a high-quality tomographic reconstruction. Simulated and experimental results confirmed the reliability and robustness of this method.

RESUMO

The combination of metasurface and holographic technology is the most cutting-edge development, but most of the proposed designs are static and do not allow active changes through external stimulation after fabrication, which takes only a limited part of the advantage provided by metasurface. Here, we propose and demonstrate a switchable hybrid active metasurface hologram in the terahertz (THz) regime composed of dynamic pixels (VO2-CSRR) and static pixels (Au-CSRR) based on an intelligent algorithm, which can display some/all information in different temperature ranges. In particular, such performance shows excellent potential in the field of optical communication security, making it a promising candidate. To prove this possibility, we propose a scheme for optical information encryption/decryption and transmission, which takes metasurfaces as carriers of encrypted information and state/polarization/positions as the secret key components. Only when the two matches correctly can we get the hidden real information. The security of our proposed scheme has reached an unprecedented level, providing a new road for communication security.

RESUMO

Driven by the development of advanced x-ray optics such as Fresnel zone plates, nano-resolution full-field transmission x-ray microscopy (Nano-CT) has become a powerful technique for the non-destructive volumetric inspection of objects and has long been developed at different synchrotron radiation facilities. However, Nano-CT data are often associated with random sample jitter because of the drift or radial/axial error motion of the rotation stage during measurement. Without a proper sample jitter correction process prior to reconstruction, the use of Nano-CT in providing accurate 3D structure information for samples is almost impossible. In this paper, to realize accurate 3D reconstruction for Nano-CT, a correction method based on a feature detection neural network, which can automatically extract target features from a projective image and precisely correct sample jitter errors, is proposed, thereby resulting in high-quality nanoscale 3D reconstruction. Compared with other feature detection methods, even if the target feature is overlapped by other high-density materials or impurities, the proposed Nano-CT correction method still acquires sub-pixel accuracy in geometrical correction and is more suitable for Nano-CT reconstruction because of its universal and faster correction speed. The simulated and experimental datasets demonstrated the reliability and validity of the proposed Nano-CT correction method.

RESUMO

Nano-resolution full-field transmission X-ray microscopy has been successfully applied to a wide range of research fields thanks to its capability of non-destructively reconstructing the 3D structure with high resolution. Due to constraints in the practical implementations, the nano-tomography data is often associated with a random image jitter, resulting from imperfections in the hardware setup. Without a proper image registration process prior to the reconstruction, the quality of the result will be compromised. Here a deep-learning-based image jitter correction method is presented, which registers the projective images with high efficiency and accuracy, facilitating a high-quality tomographic reconstruction. This development is demonstrated and validated using synthetic and experimental datasets. The method is effective and readily applicable to a broad range of applications. Together with this paper, the source code is published and adoptions and improvements from our colleagues in this field are welcomed.

RESUMO

In this work, rapid chemical precipitation assisted annealing method is used to prepare flower-like NiCo2S4. And the flower-like structure after polyethylene glycol (PEG) modification yields an excellent specific capacitance (2198.9 F g-1 at 1 A g-1). And an asymmetric supercapacitor assembled with NiCo2S4 (PEG-modified) and activated carbon (AC) shows an energy density of 38.2 Wh kg-1 at 400 W kg-1, and outstanding stability (80% remained after 3000 cycles at 5 A g-1). Benefited by a larger specific surface area and suitable pore size of the aggregate structure, the specific capacitance of prepared NiCo2S4 is increased by about 2 times. This uncomplicated preparation method is proved to be suitable for NiCo2S4 with a high specific capacitance of supercapacitors.

RESUMO

Efficient directional excitation of planar surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) has important and wide applications in micro-nano photonic technology. Recently, by using the geometric phase and spin-orbit interaction, catenary structures have been applied to the directional control of SPPs and showed excellent performance. However, due to the need to use the chirality of the subwavelength catenary apertures, the previously studied systems were only suitable for circularly polarized light. Here, based on a catenary metasurface we theoretically design and experimentally demonstrate a SPP directional launcher used for linearly polarized light. The numerical calculation results show that the directional extinction ratio reaches up to 35 dB under the normal incidence of p-polarized light at 750 nm which is 5 dB higher than the maximum extinction ratio in the existing results as we know. The experimental results show that the resonant wavelength position, bandwidth and extinction ratio change trend well match the theoretical results. The physical mechanism is analyzed and it is found that the asymmetric quadrupole mode is the key factor leading to the directional SPPs which is completely different from the geometric phase modulation mechanism to excite the directional SPPs of circularly polarized light in the catenary metasurface. These principles and methods could open new doors for future chip-level photonic device or system design such as multi-directional beam splitters and polarization detectors.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: This retrospective study analyzed the polymorphisms and phenotypic frequencies of CYP2C9, CYP2C19 and CYP2D6 in a Han Chinese population. METHODS: Tests for polymorphisms of CYP2C9, CYP2C19 and CYP2D6 were performed in over 3000 (3099-3931) samples using an Illumina HiSeq X Ten sequencer. Following the guidance of the PharmGKB and PharmVar databases, the polymorphisms of CYP2C9, CYP2C19 and CYP2D6 were transformed into phenotypes, which included ultrarapid metabolizers (UMs), rapid metabolizers (RMs), normal metabolizers (NMs), intermediate metabolizers (IMs) and poor metabolizers (PMs). RESULTS: A total of 3122 samples were tested for polymorphisms in CYP2C9 and the overall polymorphism frequency was found to be 8.8%; the phenotypic frequency for CYP2C9 was 91.2% NMs, 8.23% IMs and 0.16%, PMs. The overall polymorphism frequency of CYP2C19 was tested in 3099 samples and found to be 60.1%; the phenotypic frequency for CYP2C19 was 39.9% NMs, with 1.06% RMs, 45.62% IMs and 13.42% PMs. The overall polymorphism frequency of CYP2D6 was tested in 3931 samples and found to be 88.04%; the phenotypic frequency of CYP2D6 was 95.43% NMs, 3.35% IMs and 0.52% PMs. Using 2690 samples, the polymorphisms and phenotypic distributions of CYP2C9, CYP2C19 and CYP2D6 were examined simultaneously. We found that 96.36% of the samples contained mutations while 66.51% corresponded with phenotypic changes. CONCLUSIONS: Polymorphisms and phenotypic changes of CYP2C9, CYP2C19 and CYP2D6 are relatively frequent in the Han Chinese population. Thus, preemptive pharmacogenetic testing of CYP2C9, CYP2C19 and CYP2D6 should be recommended prior to dosing substrate drugs.

RESUMO

A three-image algorithm is proposed in order to retrieve the absorption, refraction and ultra-small-angle X-ray scattering (USAXS) properties of the object in X-ray analyzer-based imaging. Based on the Gaussian fitting to the rocking curve, the novel algorithm is theoretically derived and presented, and validated by synchrotron radiation experiments. Compared with multiple-image radiography, this algorithm only requires a minimum of three intensity measurements, and is therefore advantageous in terms of simplified acquisition procedure and reduced data collection times, which are especially important for specific applications such as in vivo imaging and phase tomography. Moreover, the retrieval algorithm can be specialized to particular cases where some degree of a priori knowledge on the object is available, potentially reducing the minimum number of intensity measurements to two. Furthermore, the effect of angular mis-alignment on the accuracy of the retrieved images was theoretically investigated, which can be of use in image interpretation and optimization of the data acquisition procedure.

RESUMO

To improve the quantitative analysis accuracy of an aqueous solution using surface-enhanced laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (SENLIBS), the filter paper was used as a transmission medium by placing it onto the surface of a metallic substrate to make the microdroplet spreading more uniform in a fixed region of the substrate surface. The trace elements (Cu, Pb, Cd, and Cr) in an aqueous solution were detected successfully using this method. The results showed that the sample preparation repeatability of SENLIBS was noticeably improved with the aid of filter paper. Moreover, the limit of detection (LoD) values was similar to those without filter paper. Furthermore, the R2 values were improved from 0.6192~0.9321 to 0.9481~0.9766, the RMSECV values were decreased from 0.53~1.95 µg/mL to 0.33~1.06 µg/mL, and the average relative error (ARE) values were decreased from 8.96~22.31% to 4.28~14.37% with the aid of filter paper. This demonstrated that the use of filter paper could improve the quantitative analysis accuracy of SENLIBS by increasing the sample preparation repeatability.

RESUMO

Ultrafast detection and switching of light are key processes in high-speed optoelectronic devices. However, the performances of VO2-based optoelectronics are strongly degraded by photothermal. The mechanism of the latter is still unclear. Here, by using femtosecond-laser (fs-laser) driven kinetic terahertz wave absorption, we quantitatively separate slow photothermal response and ultrafast photodoping response (e.g. light-induced insulator-to-metal transition) from second- to picosecond-timescales, and discover the competing interplay between them. With self-photothermal (mainly determined by fs-laser pulse repetition rate and pump fluence), the ultrafast transition time was degraded by 190% from 50 ps to 95 ps, the ultrafast transition threshold was decreased to 82% from 11mJ/cm2 to 9mJ/cm2, while the amplitudes of the two photoresponse are competing. Percolation theory, along with the macroscopic conductivity response, is used to explain the competing interplay. Our findings are relevant for designing and optimizing VO2-based ultrafast optoelectronic devices.

RESUMO

Synchrotron radiation X-ray computed tomography (CT) enables nondestructive visualization of 3D morphological and chemical changes inside a sample and has become a powerful analysis tool to monitor reactive parts and their chemical states. However, synchrotron radiation CT imaging of specimens with lateral extensions much larger than the acceptance window of detectors is rather problematic due to strong absorption of X-rays in the lateral directions. On the other hand, X-ray computed laminography (CL) permits 3D imaging of flat samples while X-ray diffraction enhanced imaging (DEI) can provide high-quality results with different imaging contrasts such as absorption, phase and dark-field for samples with weak absorptions. Combining CL and DEI together, we have developed a multi-contrast DEI-CL system at the 4W1A beamline of the Beijing Synchrotron Radiation Facility for this kind of sample. Here we reported its design, implementation, and preliminary experimental results of carbon fiber reinforced polymer laminates with three kinds of imaging contrasts. The results have demonstrated the validity of this DEI-CL system. It will be helpful to push the applications of the state-of-the-art synchrotron radiation methods and instruments towards cutting-edge research. Graphical abstract ᅟ.

RESUMO

Microscopy techniques using visible photons, x-rays, neutrons, and electrons have made remarkable impact in many scientific disciplines. The microscopic data can often be expressed as the convolution of the spatial distribution of certain properties of the specimens and the inherent response function of the imaging system. The x-ray grating interferometer (XGI), which is sensitive to the deviation angle of the incoming x-rays, has attracted significant attention in the past years due to its capability in achieving x-ray phase contrast imaging with low brilliance source. However, the comprehensive and analytical theoretical framework is yet to be presented. Herein, we propose a theoretical framework termed angular signal radiography (ASR) to describe the imaging process of the XGI system in a classical, comprehensive and analytical manner. We demonstrated, by means of theoretical deduction and synchrotron based experiments, that the spatial distribution of specimens' physical properties, including absorption, refraction and scattering, can be extracted by ASR in XGI. Implementation of ASR in XGI offers advantages such as simplified phase retrieval algorithm, reduced overall radiation dose, and improved image acquisition speed. These advantages, as well as the limitations of the proposed method, are systematically investigated in this paper.

RESUMO

A description of the rocking curve in diffraction enhanced imaging (DEI) is presented in terms of the angular signal response function and a simple multi-information retrieval algorithm based on the cosine function fitting. A comprehensive analysis of noise properties of DEI is also given considering the noise transfer characteristic of the X-ray source. The validation has been performed with synchrotron radiation experimental data and Monte Carlo simulations based on the Geant4 toolkit combined with the refractive process of X-rays, which show good agreement with each other. Moreover, results indicate that the signal-to-noise ratios of the refraction and scattering images are about one order of magnitude better than that of the absorption image at the edges of low-Z samples. The noise penalty is drastically reduced with the increasing photon flux and visibility. Finally, this work demonstrates that the analytical method can build an interesting connection between DEI and GDPCI (grating-based differential phase contrast imaging) and is widely suitable for a variety of measurement noise in the angular signal response imaging prototype. The analysis significantly contributes to the understanding of noise characteristics of DEI images and may allow improvements to the signal-to-noise ratio in biomedical and material science imaging.

RESUMO

Integrating nanostructures onto optical fibers presents a promising strategy for developing new-fashioned devices and extending the scope of nanodevices' applications. Here we report the first fabrication of a composite silicon nanostructure on an optical fiber. Through direct chemical etching using an H2O2/HF solution, multicrystal silicon films with columnar microstructures are etched into a vertically aligned, inverted-cone-like nanorod array embedded in a nanocone array. A faster dissolution rate of the silicon at the void-rich boundary regions between the columns is found to be responsible for the separation of the columns, and thus the formation of the nanostructure array. The morphology of the nanorods primarily depends on the microstructure of the columns in the film. Through controlling the microstructure of the as-grown film and the etching parameters, the structural control of the nanostructure is promising. This fabrication method can be extended to a larger length scale, and it even allows roll-to-roll processing.
