RESUMO

A 56-year-old woman suffering from cutaneous sporotrichosis on the right cheek and right knee is described. The sporotrichotic nodule of the knee was thought to have been caused by distant autoinoculation.

RESUMO

Solar urticaria is a relatively rare dermatosis. In reported cases, skin lesions appeared soon after sunlight irradiation, usually within a few minutes, and consisted of a wheal localized to the exposed area with a surrounding flare. The case presented herein is quite different from the others in its clinical manifestation. The time required for the formation of the wheal was far longer and there was neither surrounding flare nor pseudopodia. Also, the degree of local edema was directly proportional to the length of exposure time, up to three hours. A diagnosis of solar urticaria had not previously been made in this patient because he did not show wheal formation except after unusually long exposure.

RESUMO

Exclamation mark (EM) hair can lead to the misdiagnosis of alopecia areata (AA) because it is widely considered as pathognomonic for AA. Typical EM hairs were also found in trichotillomania. EM hairs collected from 2 cases of trichotillomania and 9 cases of AA were compared under light microscopy. There were two sorts of EM hairs, one with frayed distal ends and the other with blunt distal ends. The majority (77.8%) of the EM hairs from AA had frayed distal ends, while the majority (82.2%) of that from trichotillomania had blunt distal ends. EM hairs, even with frayed distal ends, are not pathognomonic of AA.

RESUMO

Epidermotropic metastatic squamous cell carcinoma produced full-thickness cellular atypia of bowenoid carcinoma in situ or vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia, grade 3 (VIN 3), in a 73-year-old woman who had past history of uterine cervical carcinoma. The presence of intravascular tumor cell nests and areas showing smooth continuity of the malignant squamous cell nodules with the adjoining benign epidermis supported the possibility of the epidermotropic metastasis. To our knowledge, metastatic epidermotropic squamous carcinoma clinicopathologically simulating primary Bowen's disease has not been reported.
