Background Cerebellar mutism syndrome (CMS), a complication following medulloblastoma surgery, has been linked to dentato-thalamo-cortical tract (DTCT) injury; the association of the degree of DTCT injury with severity of CMS-related symptoms has not been investigated. Purpose To investigate the association between severity of CMS-related symptoms and degree and patterns of DTCT injury with use of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), and if laterality of injury influences neurologic symptoms. Materials and Methods This retrospective case-control study used prospectively collected clinical and DTI data on patients with medulloblastoma enrolled in a clinical trial (between July 2016 and February 2020) and healthy controls (between April and November 2017), matched with the age range of the participants with medulloblastoma. CMS was divided into types 1 (CMS1) and 2 (CMS2). Multivariable logistic regression was used to investigate the relationship between CMS likelihood and DTCT injury. Results Overall, 82 participants with medulloblastoma (mean age, 11.0 years ± 5.2 [SD]; 53 male) and 35 healthy controls (mean age, 18.0 years ± 3.06; 18 female) were included. In participants with medulloblastoma, DTCT was absent bilaterally (AB), absent on the right side (AR), absent on the left side (AL), or present bilaterally (PB), while it was PB in all healthy controls. Odds of having CMS were associated with higher degree of DTCT damage (AB, odds ratio = 272.7 [95% CI: 269.68, 275.75; P < .001]; AR, odds ratio = 14.40 [95% CI: 2.84, 101.48; P < .001]; and AL, odds ratio = 8.55 [95% CI: 1.15, 74.14; P < .001). Left (coefficient = -0.07, χ2 = 12.4, P < .001) and right (coefficient = -0.15, χ2 = 33.82, P < .001) DTCT volumes were negatively associated with the odds of CMS. More participants with medulloblastoma with AB showed CMS1; unilateral DTCT absence prevailed in CMS2. Lower DTCT volumes correlated with more severe ataxia. Unilateral DTCT injury caused ipsilateral dysmetria; AB caused symmetric dysmetria. PB indicated better neurologic outcome. Conclusion The severity of CMS-associated mutism, ataxia, and dysmetria was associated with DTCT damage severity. Cerebellar mutism syndrome is a disorder of speech, movement and affect that can occur after tumour removal from the posterior fossa. Projections from the fastigial nuclei to the periaqueductal grey area were recently implicated in its pathogenesis, but the functional consequences of damaging these projections remain poorly understood. Here, we examine functional MRI data from patients treated for medulloblastoma to identify functional changes in key brain areas that comprise the motor system for speech, which occur along the timeline of acute speech impairment in cerebellar mutism syndrome. One hundred and twenty-four participants, all with medulloblastoma, contributed to the study: 45 with cerebellar mutism syndrome, 11 patients with severe postoperative deficits other than mutism, and 68 without either (asymptomatic). We first performed a data-driven parcellation to spatially define functional nodes relevant to the cohort that align with brain regions critical for the motor control of speech. We then estimated functional connectivity between these nodes during the initial postoperative imaging sessions to identify functional deficits associated with the acute phase of the disorder. We further analysed how functional connectivity changed over time within a subset of participants that had suitable imaging acquired over the course of recovery. Signal dispersion was also measured in the periaqueductal grey area and red nuclei to estimate activity in midbrain regions considered key targets of the cerebellum with suspected involvement in cerebellar mutism pathogenesis. We found evidence of periaqueductal grey dysfunction in the acute phase of the disorder, with abnormal volatility and desynchronization with neocortical language nodes. Functional connectivity with periaqueductal grey was restored in imaging sessions that occurred after speech recovery and was further shown to be increased with left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex. The amygdalae were also broadly hyperconnected with neocortical nodes in the acute phase. Stable connectivity differences between groups were broadly present throughout the cerebrum, and one of the most substantial differences-between Broca's area and the supplementary motor area-was found to be inversely related to cerebellar outflow pathway damage in the mutism group. These results reveal systemic changes in the speech motor system of patients with mutism, centred on limbic areas tasked with the control of phonation. These findings provide further support for the hypothesis that periaqueductal grey dysfunction (following cerebellar surgical injury) contributes to the transient postoperative non-verbal episode commonly observed in cerebellar mutism syndrome but highlights a potential role of intact cerebellocortical projections in chronic features of the disorder.

BACKGROUND: Compared with photon therapy, proton therapy reduces exposure of normal brain tissue in patients with craniopharyngioma, which might reduce cognitive deficits associated with radiotherapy. Because there are known physical differences between the two methods of radiotherapy, we aimed to estimate progression-free survival and overall survival distributions for paediatric and adolescent patients with craniopharyngioma treated with limited surgery and proton therapy, while monitoring for excessive CNS toxicity. METHODS: In this single-arm, phase 2 study, patients with craniopharyngioma at St Jude Children's Research Hospital (Memphis TN, USA) and University of Florida Health Proton Therapy Institute (Jacksonville, FL, USA) were recruited. Patients were eligible if they were aged 0-21 years at the time of enrolment and had not been treated with previous radiotherapeutic or intracystic therapies. Eligible patients were treated using passively scattered proton beams, 54 Gy (relative biological effect), and a 0·5 cm clinical target volume margin. Surgical treatment was individualised before proton therapy and included no surgery, single procedures with catheter and Ommaya reservoir placement through a burr hole or craniotomy, endoscopic resection, trans-sphenoidal resection, craniotomy, or multiple procedure types. After completing treatment, patients were evaluated clinically and by neuroimaging for tumour progression and evidence of necrosis, vasculopathy, permanent neurological deficits, vision loss, and endocrinopathy. Neurocognitive tests were administered at baseline and once a year for 5 years. Outcomes were compared with a historical cohort treated with surgery and photon therapy. The coprimary endpoints were progression-free survival and overall survival. Progression was defined as an increase in tumour dimensions on successive imaging evaluations more than 2 years after treatment. Survival and safety were also assessed in all patients who received photon therapy and limited surgery. This study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT01419067. FINDINGS: Between Aug 22, 2011, and Jan 19, 2016, 94 patients were enrolled and treated with surgery and proton therapy, of whom 49 (52%) were female, 45 (48%) were male, 62 (66%) were White, 16 (17%) were Black, two (2%) were Asian, and 14 (15%) were other races, and median age was 9·39 years (IQR 6·39-13·38) at the time of radiotherapy. As of data cutoff (Feb 2, 2022), median follow-up was 7·52 years (IQR 6·28-8·53) for patients who did not have progression and 7·62 years (IQR 6·48-8·54) for the full cohort of 94 patients. 3-year progression-free survival was 96·8% (95% CI 90·4-99·0; p=0·89), with progression occurring in three of 94 patients. No deaths occurred at 3 years, such that overall survival was 100%. At 5 years, necrosis had occurred in two (2%) of 94 patients, severe vasculopathy in four (4%), and permanent neurological conditions in three (3%); decline in vision from normal to abnormal occurred in four (7%) of 54 patients with normal vision at baseline. The most common grade 3-4 adverse events were headache (six [6%] of 94 patients), seizure (five [5%]), and vascular disorders (six [6%]). No deaths occurred as of data cutoff. INTERPRETATION: Proton therapy did not improve survival outcomes in paediatric and adolescent patients with craniopharyngioma compared with a historical cohort, and severe complication rates were similar. However, cognitive outcomes with proton therapy were improved over photon therapy. Children and adolescents treated for craniopharyngioma using limited surgery and post-operative proton therapy have a high rate of tumour control and low rate of severe complications. The outcomes achieved with this treatment represent a new benchmark to which other regimens can be compared. Trichoderma species have received significant interest as beneficial fungi for boosting plant growth and immunity against phytopathogens. By establishing a mutualistic relationship with plants, Trichoderma causes a series of intricate signaling events that eventually promote plant growth and improve disease resistance. The mechanisms contain the indirect or direct involvement of Trichoderma in enhancing plant growth by modulating phytohormones signaling pathways, improving uptake and accumulation of nutrients, and increasing soil bioavailability of nutrients. They contribute to plant resistance by stimulating systemic acquired resistance through salicylic acid, jasmonic acid, and ethylene signaling. A cascade of signal transduction processes initiated by the interaction of Trichoderma and plants regulate the expression of defense-related genes, resulting in the synthesis of defense hormones and pathogenesis-related proteins (PRPs), which collectively improve plant resistance. Additionally, advancements in omics technologies has led to the identification of key pathways, their regulating genes, and molecular interactions in the plant defense and growth promotion responses induced by Trichoderma. Deciphering the molecular mechanism behind Trichoderma's induction of plant defense and immunity is essential for harnessing the full plant beneficial potential of Trichoderma. This review article sheds light on the molecular mechanisms that underlie the positive effects of Trichoderma-induced plant immunity and growth and opens new opportunities for developing environmentally friendly and innovative approaches to improve plant immunity and growth.

ortho-Diethylhexyloxyphenylene benzothiadiazole paracyclophane-1,9-diene as a mixture of diastereomers was synthesized by a sequential benzyne-induced Stevens rearrangement, oxidation and pyrolysis of a dithia[3.3]paracyclophane. Reaction of these highly strained cyclophanedienes with the second generation Grubbs catalyst showed that they can be ring opened to alternating cis,trans-phenylenevinylene polymers. In situ NMR experiments showed that one isomer 8a polymerised to 90% conversion, whereas the other 8b gave only 9% conversion due to steric hindrance on both faces of the alkene bridges of this isomer. The resulting polymers can be readily isomerized in dilute solution using visible light to the all-trans isomer and the optical and electrochemical properties of these polymers were examined by theory and experiment.

AIMS: Root-knot nematodes (RKNs) are plant pathogens that cause huge economic losses worldwide. The biological management of RKNs may be a sustainable alternative to chemical control methods. Here, the biocontrol potential of Methylorubrum rhodesianum M520 against the RKN Meloidogyne incognita was investigated to theoretically support its application as a biocontrol agent in field production. METHODS AND RESULTS: In-vitro assays showed 91.9% mortality of M. incognita second-stage juveniles in the presence of strain M520 and that the hatching rate of M. incognita eggs was 21.7% lower than that of eggs treated with sterile water. In pot experiments, the M520 treatment caused 70.8% reduction in root-knots and increased plant shoot length and stem and root fresh weights, compared to control plant values. In split-root experiments, cucumber roots treated with M520 showed 25.6% decrease in root gall number, compared to that in control roots. CONCLUSION: M520 has multiple mechanisms against RKNs and might be used as a biocontrol agent against M. incognita in cucumber, laying a foundation for further studying M520 biocontrol against RKNs.

INTRODUCTION: Administration of antibiotics in patients with cirrhosis and upper gastrointestinal bleeding has been shown to improve outcomes. Little is known regarding optimum duration of prophylactic antibiotics. Seven days of antibiotics are generally recommended but very few studies have compared antibiotic duration to clinical outcomes in current available scientific literature. The goal of our study was to study the effect of shorter antibiotic duration on patient outcomes. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of patients with cirrhosis presenting with upper GI bleeding at our institute from 2010 to 2018. Patients were divided into three cohorts based on duration of antibiotic administration for prophylaxis: 1-3 days of antibiotics, 4-6 days of antibiotics and 7 days or more of antibiotics. Rates of infection diagnosis within 30 days, rebleeding, and mortality were compared between the three groups with Chi square, Fisher Exact and Kruskall-Wallace tests. Multivariable analysis was conducted to evaluate independent risk factors for infection. RESULTS: Medical charts of 980 patients with cirrhosis and upper GI bleeding during the study period were reviewed. A total of 303 with upper gastrointestinal bleeding were included in the final sample, of these 243 patients received antibiotics for prophylaxis and were included for analysis. Seventy-seven patients received antibiotic therapy for 3 days or less, 69 patients for 4-6 days, and 97 patients longer than 6 days. The three groups were well matched in demographic and clinical variables. Twenty-seven patients developed infections within 30 days of bleeding. MELD-Na score at presentation and presence of ascites were associated with infection within 30 days. Rates of infection were not statistically different between the three antibiotic groups (p = 0.78). In the thirty days following the GI bleed, pneumonia was the most diagnosed infection (eleven patients) followed by urinary tract infections (eight patients). Four patients developed spontaneous bacterial peritonitis and three were diagnosed with bacteremia. There was no difference in time to infection (Kruskall Wallace test p = 0.75), early re-bleeding (p = 0.81), late re-bleeding (p = 0.37) and in-hospital mortality (p = 0.94) in the three groups. Six patients in the cohort developed C. Difficile infection; no patient in the short antibiotic group developed C. Difficile infection. CONCLUSION: Short course of antibiotics for prophylaxis (3 days) appears safe and adequate for prophylaxis in patients with cirrhosis with upper gastrointestinal bleeding if there is no active infection.

A novel, to the best of our knowledge, dual-head Michelson interferometer-based pressure sensor with ultrahigh sensitivity and rapid response has been fabricated and optimized. The sensor consists of two diaphragm-based sensing heads, which operate on the principle of path-length variations of the interferometers due to the effect of pressure variation within the pressure channel. Pressure has been measured independently by the heads in terms of the fringe counts across two photodetectors with different sensitivities and working ranges. Head 1 had a linear working range of 0-6 psi and a sensitivity, resolution, and response time of 1295.04 fringe counts/psi, 25.74 µpsi, and 0.86 ms, respectively, which were 2.46, 2.46, and 0.86 times better than those of head 2. However, head 2 had a larger working range of 0-15 psi. Heads 1 and 2 yielded repeatable responses with negligible hysteresis and an average absolute error of 0.55% and 0.58%, respectively, compared to the predicted results. The proposed sensor has great potential for use in laboratory and industrial nonintrusive precise and fast-response pressure sensing applications.

Quantitative measurements of molecular dynamics at the solid-liquid interface are of crucial importance in a wide range of fields, such as heterogeneous catalysis, energy storage, nanofluidics, biosensing, and crystallization. In particular, the molecular dynamics associated with nucleation and crystal growth is very challenging to study because of the poor sensitivity or limited spatial/temporal resolution of the most widely used analytical techniques. We demonstrate that electrolyte-gated organic field-effect transistors (EGOFETs) are able to monitor in real-time the crystallization process in an evaporating droplet. The high sensitivity of these devices at the solid-liquid interface, through the electrical double layer and signal amplification, enables the quantification of changes in solute concentration over time and the transport rate of molecules at the solid-liquid interface during crystallization. Our results show that EGOFETs offer a highly sensitive and powerful, yet simple approach to investigate the molecular dynamics of compounds crystallizing from water.

BACKGROUND: The objective of this study was to determine the impact of seizure-related factors on neurocognitive, health-related quality of life (HRQOL), and social outcomes in survivors of childhood cancer. METHODS: Survivors of childhood cancer treated at St. Jude Children's Hospital (n = 2022; 48.3% female; median age, 31.5 years; median time since diagnosis, 23.6 years) completed neurocognitive testing and questionnaires. The presence, severity, resolution, and treatment history of seizures were abstracted from medical records. Adjusting for the age at diagnosis, sex, and prior cancer therapy, multivariable models examined the impact of seizures on neurocognitive and HRQOL outcomes. Mediation analyses were conducted for social outcomes. RESULTS: Seizures were identified in 232 survivors (11.5%; 29.9% of survivors with central nervous system [CNS] tumors and 9.0% of those without CNS tumors). In CNS tumor survivors, seizures were associated with poorer executive function and processing speed (P < .02); in non-CNS tumor survivors, seizures were associated with worse function in every domain (P < .05). Among non-CNS survivors, seizure severity was associated with worse processing speed (P = .023), and resolution was associated with better executive function (P = .028) and attention (P = .044). In CNS survivors, seizure resolution was associated with improved attention (P = .047) and memory (P < .02). Mediation analysis revealed that the impact of seizures on social outcomes was mediated by neurocognitive function. CONCLUSIONS: Seizures in cancer survivors adversely affect long-term functional and psychosocial outcomes independently of cancer therapy. The resolution of seizure occurrence is associated with better outcomes. Seizure severity is associated with poorer outcomes and should be a focus of clinical management and patient education.

INTRODUCTION: Up to 34% of patients with medulloblastoma develop posterior fossa syndrome (PFS) following brain tumor resection and have increased risk of long-term neurocognitive impairments. Lack of agreement in conceptualization and diagnosis of PFS calls for improvements in diagnostic methods. The current study aimed to describe psychometric properties of a new posterior fossa syndrome questionnaire (PFSQ). METHODS: The PFSQ was informed by prior research and developed by a multidisciplinary team with subject matter expertise. Participants (N = 164; 63.4% Male; 78.7% White; Mage at diagnosis = 10.38 years, SD = 5.09, range 3-31 years) included patients with newly diagnosed medulloblastoma enrolled in the SJMB12 clinical trial. Forty-four patients (26.8%) were classified as having PFS based on attending physician's post-surgical yes/no report. A PFSQ was completed by a neurologist within 2 weeks of coming to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for adjuvant treatment, irrespective of suspicion for PFS. RESULTS: PFSQ items ataxia (100.00%), dysmetria (95.45%), and speech/language changes (79.55%) were most sensitive. However, ataxia (26.50%) and dysmetria (46.61%) demonstrated low specificity. Speech/language changes (81.36%), mutism (95.76%), orofacial apraxia (98.29%) and irritability (96.61%) had high specificity. A principal component analysis found four components: (1) speech/language changes, (2) apraxias (including mutism), (3) motor/oromotor, and (4) emotional lability. CONCLUSIONS: The PFSQ is a dimensional diagnostic approach that can be used to improve diagnostic consistency across clinical and research groups to help accelerate understanding of PFS etiology, identify surgical correlates of risk, predict long-term impairments, and develop targeted interventions. Additional measure validation, including correlation with symptom resolution, is required.

AIMS: Because of severe economic losses and food security concerns caused by plant pathogenic bacteria, Ralstonia solanacearum, there is a need to develop novel control methods. This study was aimed to green synthesize the zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) through Withania coagulans leaf extracts and checked their antibacterial potential alone or in combination with W. coagulans leaf extract for the management of R. solanacearum causing bacterial wilt disease in tomato. METHODS AND RESULTS: ZnO NPs were synthesized through an eco-friendly approach using leaves extract of W. coagulans and characterized through various spectroscopic approaches, that is Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic, UV-visible spectroscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy. The antibacterial effect of W. coagulans leaf extract and ZnO NPs alone and in combination was tested in vitro and in vivo against bacterial wilt pathogen in tomato plants. The results showed that combine application of leaf extract and ZnO NPs inhibited in vitro growth of R. solanacearum more than applying alone. Three application times (0, 6 and 12 days before transplantation) of leaf extract, ZnONPs and their combine application were tested in vivo. The combine treatment and longest application time (12 days before transplantation) were more effective in suppressing soil population of R. solanacearum, reducing disease severity and enhancing plant growth than applying alone and smaller application time. CONCLUSION: It is concluded that W. coagulans leaf extract and ZnO NPs have strong antibacterial potential against R. solanacearum in vitro and in vivo. BACKGROUND: Microscopic colitis and Celiac disease have been shown to occur concomitantly, but their relationship has yet to be systematically evaluated. Some patients with refractory microscopic colitis may have simultaneous celiac disease, and the converse is also true. AIMS: We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies to assess the prevalence and possible association between these two conditions. METHODS: PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, Web of Science, SciELO, and CINAHL Plus were systematically searched through January 26, 2021, to include relevant observational studies assessing the prevalence of microscopic colitis in celiac disease population or vice versa. DerSimonian-Laird approach using random effects was used to pool data and compare outcomes. Pooled prevalence, 95% confidence interval (CI), and p values (where applicable) were calculated. RESULTS: Five studies (with 2589 patients, age range 39.5-52 years and females 66.6%) and 21 studies (with 7186 patients, age range 46.4-65.8 years and females 76.3%) were included assessing the prevalence of microscopic colitis in refractory celiac disease and celiac disease in refractory microscopic colitis cohort. The overall prevalence was 4.5% (2.6-6.3%) and 6.7% (5.2-8.1%), respectively. Five studies showed higher odds of celiac disease diagnosis in the refractory microscopic colitis population compared to the control group (OR 8.12, CI 4.92-13.41, p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Celiac disease and microscopic colitis are concomitantly prevalent in a subset of population with either refractory diagnosis. Clinicians should explore alternate diagnosis when one condition has been appropriately treated and patients continue to have refractory symptoms.

Epitranscriptomics involves functionally relevant biochemical modifications of RNA taking place at the transcriptome level without a change in the sequence of ribonucleotides. Several types of modifications that affect the processing and function of differentRNA types have been reported. Methylation at N6 of Adenosine called m6A is one such modification, quite widespread in occurrence and reported in snRNAs, lncRNAs, circRNAs, rRNAs, miRNAs, and most abundantly, in mRNAs. The significant implications of m6A in various types of cancers are being widely recognized. Here, we give a brief about the enzymes that install the m6A modification (= m6A writers), that remove it (= m6A erasers) and certain RNA binding proteins (= m6A readers) which affect the fate of the m6A-containing RNA by recruiting various proteins. We also discuss the relevance of m6A in ncRNAs in various cancer types, followed by a discussion on the role of m6A of mRNA and ncRNA in lung cancer.

Converting agricultural waste into value-added biopesticides to replace chemical pesticides for plant protection is a good alternative for environmental sustainability and resource recycling. In this study, five tropical wastes (cassava peels, banana pseudostem, coconut shell, sugarcane bagasse, and pineapple peels) were screened as substrates for the rapid production of biopesticide Trichoderma Brev T069. Five single tests and a Box-Behnken design (BBD) with response surface methodology were used to optimize the culture conditions to improve the spore yield. The results showed that cassava peel was the optimal solid fermentation substrate, and the optimization enabled a spore yield of 9.31 × 109 spores/g at 3rd day, which was equal to 93.19% of spore yield obtained at 5th day (9.99 × 109 spores/g). A newly packed-bed bioreactor with agitation and ventilation system was developed and used to expand the production that 250 kg of biopesticide (2.89 × 109 spores/g) could be available on the 3rd day. A pot experiment indicated that the biopesticide T. Brev T069 obtained under this production system, when applied at 1 × 107 spores/g of soil had a 64.65% biocontrol efficiency on banana fusarium wilt. This study provides a practical solution for turning a tropical waste into an effective biopesticide which can prevent banana wilt disease, thereby helping to reduce disease management cost and overcome environmental hazards caused by synthetic pesticides.

Wild fruits have increasingly been investigated as part of recent searches for food products with a high antioxidant activity. In this study, wild edible berberis Berberis vulgaris collected from three different provinces (Jilin, Heilongjiang, and Liaoning) were investigated for their phenolic contents, organic acid contents, mineral contents, antioxidant activity as well as their antimicrobial potential against a range of common food borne pathogens. In addition, a physiochemical and mineral analysis of the fruits was also performed. The methanol extracts of berberis fruit collected from Jilin province were highly active against all the studied food borne bacterial pathogens, i.e., S. aureus and L. monocytogenes, E. coli, P. fluorescens, V. parahaemolyticus, and A. caviae while the berberis extracts from Heilongjiang and Liaoning showed activity only against Gram-negative bacteria. The phenolic content and antioxidant activity were determined by the HPLC separation method and ß-carotene bleaching methods, respectively. Four organic acids such as malic acid, citric acid, tartaric acid, and succinic acid were identified while a variety of phenolic compounds were detected among which catechin, chlorogenic acid, and gallic acid were found to be the predominant phenolic compounds in all three of berberis fruit samples. The berberis fruit from Jilin was found to be superior to the Heilongjiang and Liaoning fruit regarding desired physiochemical analysis; however, there were no significant differences in the mineral contents among the three samples. Overall, the berberis fruit from Jilin was ranked as the best in term of the nutritional, physiochemical, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties. This study confirms the various useful characteristics and features of berberis at a molecular level that can be used as a sustainable source for their potential nutritional applications for making functional foods in different food industries.

Exposure to cranial radiotherapy is associated with an increased risk of subsequent CNS neoplasms among childhood, adolescent, and young adult (CAYA) cancer survivors. Surveillance for subsequent neoplasms can translate into early diagnoses and interventions that could improve cancer survivors' health and quality of life. The practice guideline presented here by the International Late Effects of Childhood Cancer Guideline Harmonization Group was developed with an evidence-based method that entailed the gathering and appraisal of published evidence associated with subsequent CNS neoplasms among CAYA cancer survivors. The preparation of these guidelines showed a paucity of high-quality evidence and highlighted the need for additional research to inform survivorship care. The recommendations are based on careful consideration of the evidence supporting the benefits, risks, and harms of the surveillance interventions, clinical judgment regarding individual patient circumstances, and the need to maintain flexibility of application across different health-care systems. Currently, there is insufficient evidence to establish whether early detection of subsequent CNS neoplasms reduces morbidity and mortality, and therefore no recommendation can be formulated for or against routine MRI surveillance. The decision to start surveillance should be made by the CAYA cancer survivor and health-care provider after careful consideration of the potential harms and benefits of surveillance for CNS neoplasms, including meningioma.

Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. capsici is the specific pathogen of pepper Fusarium wilt and causes a significant reduction in pepper yield. Its narrow host specificity has led to the concept of formae speciales. This interesting phenomenon has great potential and needs to be analyzed at the molecular level. In this study, we obtained the draft genome sequence of F. oxysporum f. sp. capsici, using the Oxford Nanopore sequencing technology. The long read-based assembly consisted of 34 contigs, with a total length of 54,516,562 bp. The contig N50 was 4,962,668 bp and the GC content was 47.6%. Our genome assembly of F. oxysporum f. sp. capsici provides a valuable resource for the study of pepper Fusarium wilt, and the comparative genomic study of F. oxysporum.[Formula: see text] Copyright © 2021 The Author(s). The effect of the size of nanoparticles, σNP, on the glass transition temperature, Tg, of polymer nanocomposites is studied by using molecular dynamics simulations. The variation of Tg with σNP shows two distinct behaviours for polymer nanocomposites at low and high volume fractions of nanoparticles (fNP). At a low fNP, Tg decays almost exponentially with σNP, whereas at a high fNPTg shows a complex behaviour: it initially increases and then decreases with increasing σNP. The decrease in Tg with σNP is due to the significant decrease of adsorbed polymer monomers, while the increase in Tg with σNP is attributed to the slower diffusion of larger nanoparticles. We have also investigated the diffusion and relaxation of polymer chains at a temperature above Tg for both low and high fNPs. The diffusion constant and relaxation time of polymer chains are highly consistent with the behaviour of Tg.

INTRODUCTION: Children with brain tumors may develop inattention, slow processing, and hypersomnia. Stimulant medications improve these problems, but their effect on growth, heart rate, and blood pressure (BP) are inadequately explored. PROCEDURE: We retrospectively studied children with brain tumors treated at our institution that had data available for 1 year pre and 2 years on stimulant treatment. Tumor location, gender, radiation treatment (RT), age at RT, drug type, and hormone therapy were variables of interest. RESULTS: We identified 65 children (35 males) that fulfilled eligibility criteria. Focal RT was utilized in 58; 11 additionally had whole brain RT; and seven received no RT. Thirty were treated for hypersomnia and inattention, eight for hypersomnia alone, and rest for inattention. Modafinil was the first drug in 18 (27.7%), and methylphenidate in the others. Forty-seven (72.3%), 45 (69.2%), and 49 (75.4%) were on thyroxine, cortisone, and growth hormones, respectively. There was no difference in pre- and post-stimulant body mass index (BMI), heart rate, and BP. There was also no difference between modafinil and methylphenidate groups. Rate of height acquisition slowed on stimulants (P = .0096). Thyroxine treatment correlated with increase in BMI after stimulants (P = .04). Younger age (P = .0003) and higher prestimulant BMI (P = .0063) correlated with increased heart rate on stimulants, while higher age at RT (P =.016) correlated with elevated systolic BP on stimulants. No associations were found with height acquisition and diastolic BP. CONCLUSION: Stimulants are well tolerated by children with brain tumors that are appropriately managed for endocrine deficiencies, but may reduce the trajectory of height attainment.
