RESUMO

Most simulations of food production in response to various climates to date have used simulations of the same crop over multiple years. This study evaluated the impact of projected climate on performance of rice-lentil-groundnut cropping sequence in New Alluvial Zone of West Bengal, India, using DSSAT model. The study period consisted of baseline (1980-2010), mid-century (2040-2069) and end-century (2070-2099). Advancement in days to anthesis (2-13 days) was simulated for rice during the future periods. For lentil and groundnut, average advancement in days to anthesis was 1 day. Days to maturity were shortened by 3-16 days for rice and 0-7 days for lentil. Nevertheless, for groundnut, the days to maturity were simulated to increase by 1-9 days. The impact on final biomass and yield was simulated with and without CO2 fertilization, and the positive impact of CO2 fertilization was prominent for all the three crops. When CO2 fertilization effect was considered, the yield of rice was projected to increase by 11-32%. On the other hand, yield of lentil and groundnut was estimated to change by - 31 to - 12% and - 33 to + 8%, respectively. Enhanced CO2 could mitigate the magnitude of yield reduction due to enhanced temperature. Rice was benefited due to the carryover effect of residue from preceding groundnut and, hence, could sustain the yield on a long term. The study could also quantify the uncertainty in simulation of yield due to selection of GCMs.

BACKGROUND: Thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) mediates proallergic T helper 2-type responses by acting on leucocytes. Endogenous pathways regulating TSLP production are poorly defined. OBJECTIVES: To uncover the mechanisms by which skin barrier disruption elicits TSLP production and to delineate the level at which individual mechanistic components may converge. METHODS: A combination of primary keratinocytes, skin explants and in vivo strategies was employed. Murine skin was tape stripped in the presence of neutralizing antibodies or antagonists. Cells and explants were stimulated with interleukin (IL)-1 and protease-activated receptor 2 agonist (PAR-2-Ag). TSLP levels were quantified by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Chromatin immunoprecipitation and promoter reporter assays were used to examine recruitment and functional activity of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) at the TSLP promoter. RESULTS: TSLP induction in mouse skin occurred in a PAR-2- and IL-1-dependent manner. This scenario was duplicated by exogenous IL-1 plus PAR-2-Ag vs. each stimulus alone. Joint activity of PAR-2 and IL-1 was also observed in human keratinocytes. The TSLP promoter was identified as the target of PAR-2/IL-1, whereby PAR-2 activation augmented the recruitment of NF-κB and transcriptional activation over IL-1 alone. Combined treatment showed activity at concentrations of IL-1 unable to elicit NF-κB activity on their own. CONCLUSIONS: Skin barrier disruption activates the IL-1 and the PAR-2 pathways, which act in concert to activate the TSLP promoter and possibly other inflammatory genes. Awareness of this combined activity may permit a more flexible clinical management by selective targeting of either pathway individually or collectively. What's already known about this topic? Thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) is rapidly induced upon skin perturbation and mediates proallergic T helper 2-type responses by acting on leucocytes. Endogenous control of TSLP expression is poorly understood, but interleukin (IL)-1 is one regulator in the cutaneous environment In addition to IL-1, protease-activated receptor 2 (PAR-2) organizes central inflammatory pathways in the skin. What does this study add? IL-1 and PAR-2 pathways cooperate in driving TSLP production in mice and humans. Pathway integration occurs at the level of the TSLP promoter through enhanced recruitment and transcriptional activation of nuclear factor kappa B. When PAR-2 is co-stimulated, very low IL-1 levels (inactive by themselves) can induce biologically meaningful responses in the skin environment. What is the translational message? Physical skin irritation results in robust TSLP production by simultaneous activation of PAR-2 and IL-1 pathways.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is the leading cause of non-traumatic neurological disability in the United States in young adults, but current treatments are only partially effective, making it necessary to develop new, innovative therapeutic strategies. Myelin-specific interleukin (IL)-17-producing T helper type 17 (Th17) cells are a major subset of CD4 T effector cells (Teff ) that play a critical role in mediating the development and progression of MS and its mouse model, experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), while regulatory T cells (Treg ) CD4 T cells are beneficial for suppressing disease. The IL-6/signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT-3) signaling pathway is a key regulator of Th17 and Treg cells by promoting Th17 development and suppressing Treg development. Here we show that three novel small molecule IL-6 inhibitors, madindoline-5 (MDL-5), MDL-16 and MDL-101, significantly suppress IL-17 production in myelin-specific CD4 T cells in a dose-dependent manner in vitro. MDL-101 showed superior potency in suppressing IL-17 production compared to MDL-5 and MDL-16. Treatment of myelin-specific CD4 T cells with MDL-101 in vitro reduced their encephalitogenic potential following their subsequent adoptive transfer. Furthermore, MDL-101 significantly suppressed proliferation and IL-17 production of anti-CD3-activated effector/memory CD45RO+ CD4+ human CD4 T cells and promoted human Treg development. Together, these data demonstrate that these novel small molecule IL-6 inhibitors have the potential to shift the Teff  : Treg balance, which may provide a novel therapeutic strategy for ameliorating disease progression in MS.

Freeze drying and salt leaching methods were applied to fabricate Chitosan/Poly(vinyl alcohol)/Carboxymethyl cellulose (CPCMC) biomimetic porous scaffolds for soft tissue engineering. The properties of these scaffolds were investigated and compared to those by freeze drying and salt leaching methods respectively. The salt-leached CS/PVA/CMC scaffolds were easily formed into desired shapes with a uniformly distributed and interconnected pore structure with an average pore size. The mechanical strength of the scaffolds increased with the porosity, and were easily modulated by the addition of carboxymethyl cellulose. The morphology of the porous scaffolds observed using a SEM exhibited good porosity and interconnectivity of pores. MTT assay using L929 fibroblast cells demonstrated that the cell viability of the porous scaffold was good. Scaffolds prepared by salt leached method show larger swelling capacity, and mechanical strength, potent antibacterial activity and more cell viability than freeze dried method. It is found that salt leaching method has distinguished characteristics of simple, efficient, feasible and less economic than freeze dried scaffolds.

Heat wave is a hazardous weather-related extreme event that affects living beings. The 2015 summer heat wave affected many regions in India and caused the death of 2248 people across the country. An attempt has been made to quantify the intensity and duration of heat wave that resulted in high mortality across the country. Half hourly Physiologically Equivalent Temperature (PET), based on a complete heat budget of human body, was estimated using automatic weather station (AWS) data of four locations in Andhra Pradesh state, where the maximum number of deaths was reported. The heat wave characterization using PET revealed that extreme heat load conditions (PET >41) existed in all the four locations throughout May during 2012-2015, with varying intensity. The intensity and duration of heat waves characterized by "area under the curve" method showed good results for Srikakulam and Undi locations. Variations in PET during each half an hour were estimated. Such studies will help in fixing thresholds for defining heat waves, designing early warning systems, etc.

A new methodology for crop-growth stage-specific assessment of agricultural drought risk under a variable sowing window is proposed for the soybean crop. It encompasses three drought indices, which include Crop-Specific Drought Index (CSDI), Vegetation Condition Index (VCI), and Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI). The unique features of crop-growth stage-specific nature and spatial and multi-scalar coverage provide a comprehensive assessment of agricultural drought risk. This study was conducted in 10 major soybean-growing districts of Madhya Pradesh state of India. These areas contribute about 60% of the total soybean production for the country. The phenophase most vulnerable to agricultural drought was identified (germination and flowering in our case) for each district across four sowing windows. The agricultural drought risk was quantified at various severity levels (moderate, severe, and very severe) for each growth stage and sowing window. Validation of the proposed new methodology also yielded results with a high correlation coefficient between percent probability of agricultural drought risk and yield risk (r = 0.92). Assessment by proximity matrix yielded a similar statistic. Expectations for the proposed methodology are better mitigation-oriented management and improved crop contingency plans for planners and decision makers.

BACKGROUND: Appraisals are suggested to play a determining role in the clinical outcome of psychotic experiences (PEs). We used experimental tasks that mimic PEs to investigate appraisals in individuals with PEs with and without a 'need-for-clinical-care', and psychosis patients whose symptoms have remitted. We predicted that patients would appraise the tasks as threatening regardless of current symptom level, while non-clinical and control groups would appraise them as non-threatening. METHOD: Appraisals following three anomalous experiences-inducing tasks [Telepath, Cards task, Virtual acoustic space paradigm (VASP)] were examined in 71 individuals: symptomatic (n = 18) and remitted (n = 16) psychosis patients; non-clinical group with PEs (n = 16); controls without PEs (n = 21). RESULTS: As predicted, symptomatic patients endorsed more threatening appraisals for all tasks than non-clinical and control groups, who did not differ from each other. However, remitted patients were less likely to endorse threatening appraisals of the Cards and Telepath than their symptomatic counterparts, although they did not differ in global ratings of how striking, threatening and distressing they found the tasks. Moreover, remitted participants endorsed more threatening appraisals of the Telepath and VASP than non-clinical participants, and of the VASP than controls. Remitted participants also rated all three tasks as globally more threatening than the non-clinical group and controls. CONCLUSIONS: Clinical outcome may not necessarily be driven by the presence of symptoms, with threatening appraisals of PEs representing a key factor. The remitted group's intermediate appraisal scores imply that the relationship between appraisal and clinical outcome is not straightforward, and potential mediating factors need to be determined.

BACKGROUND: Chronic hand eczema (CHE) is a common inflammatory skin disease that affects approximately 10% of the population. Systemic alitretinoin has been shown to be effective in patients with CHE who are refractory to topical corticosteroids. OBJECTIVES: To analyse the impact of alitretinoin on the skin barrier genes and protein expression in the skin lesions of patients with CHE. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifteen patients with CHE were treated with 30 mg daily of alitretinoin for up to 27 weeks. Disease severity was assessed using a clinical score. Skin biopsies from all the patients were evaluated before and after therapy for the expression of Ki-67, various skin barrier genes and thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction and immunohistochemistry. RESULTS: After alitretinoin application, an improvement in the clinical severity of CHE was observed in the majority of patients. Analysis of skin biopsies before treatment showed a significant increase in Ki-67-positive cells in the suprabasal layer and a dysregulated expression of various skin barrier genes, such as claudin 1, loricrin, filaggrin and cytokeratin 10, which were normalized after treatment. TSLP was significantly upregulated in patients with CHE and also normalized after alitretinoin treatment and negatively correlated with filaggrin. CONCLUSIONS: Our data indicate that the expression of barrier genes and proteins was normalized following treatment with alitretinoin in patients with CHE. The change in expression levels of these genes correlated with the clinical efficacy, suggesting that alitretinoin exhibits a disease-modifying activity. TSLP is upregulated in CHE and seems to counteract filaggrin expression in the skin.

BACKGROUND: Thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) is an extensively studied cytokine linked to the pathogenesis of allergic diseases, but the inherent activities behind TSLP expression are not well defined. OBJECTIVES: To explore the conditions favourable to TSLP induction outside of a typically allergic set-up and determine the associated mechanisms, and to assess whether TSLP is similarly controlled in murine and human skin. METHODS: A combination of primary keratinocytes, skin explants/epidermal sheets and in vivo strategies was employed. The skin of wild-type and tumour necrosis factor knockout (TNF-/-) mice was subjected to acute irritation. Cells and specimens were stimulated with a range of TSLP inducers in the presence or absence of neutralizing antibodies. TSLP was quantitated by quantitative reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and immunohistochemistry. RESULTS: In addition to cytokines, skin irritation brought about by various causes (e.g. shaving, scratching and chemical perturbation) elicited uniformly high-level production of TSLP, which entered the circulatory system. Despite the potency of TNF-α as an in vitro TSLP inducer, the use of TNF-/- mice revealed that this mechanism was completely independent of endogenous TNF-α. Conversely, irritation-elicited TSLP depended on interleukin (IL)-1, which had a more pronounced influence in human skin than in murine skin. Murine and human skin differed considerably regarding TSLP regulation. CONCLUSIONS: Thymic stromal lymphopoietin is a general responder to disrupted skin homeostasis and may have a role in triggering the alarm system of the skin. TSLP induction is rapid, transient and driven by a mechanism that does not involve TNF-α, but partially relies on the evolutionarily ancient IL-1 system. The irritated skin secretes TSLP into the circulatory system. TSLP regulation varies between species.

Paraneoplastic cerebellar degeneration (PCD) is an immune-mediated paraneoplastic disorder affecting the cerebellum. PCD associated with ovarian malignancy is a rare occurrence with fewer than 100 cases reported in published work. PCD patients express anti-Yo antibody, one of the anti-onconeuronal antibodies which is most likely associated with gynecologic or breast malignancies. In this report, we present the case of a 65-year-old postmenopausal woman presenting with acute symptoms of PCD as a first sign of ovarian malignancy.

The study investigated removal of hexavalent chromium Cr (VI) from aqueous solution using graphene oxide­iron oxide reinforced pectin/polyvinyl alcohol magnetic gel beads prepared through co-precipitation and freeze-drying technique. Scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, vibrating sample magnetometer, N2 adsorption-desorption isotherm, and zeta potential are used for characterization. The surface area of magnetic gel beads calculated by BET method was determined to be 100.95 m2/g, significantly higher than that of GO and GO-Fe3O4. The optimum removal efficiency of GO-Fe3O4/Pec/PVA was assessed by batch method at variables such as pH(1-6), adsorption time(0-180 min), and temperature(25-35 °C). Accordingly, 0.2 g GO-Fe3O4/Pec/PVA dose, pH 2, contact time: 120 min at 25 °C were found to be the optimal conditions, and maximum adsorption capacity of GO, GO-Fe3O4 and GO-Fe3O4/Pec/PVA toward Cr(VI) removal was found to be 39.5, 62.5 and 78.55 mg g-1, respectively. Kinetic and isotherm studies indicate adsorption data follow pseudo-second-order kinetic and Langmuir isotherm models. Thermodynamic studies showed adsorption capacities of adsorbents decreased when temperature increased which indicated adsorption for Cr (VI) was an exothermic process. The activation energies were found to be 34.92, 26.57, and 35.23 KJ mol-1 for GO, GO-Fe3O4, and GO-Fe3O4/Pec/PVA, respectively, which illustrated adsorption of Cr(VI) onto the surface of adsorbents was a physical process. The beads exhibit excellent recoverability and reusability over five cycles. Overall, GO-Fe3O4/Pec/PVA demonstrates exceptional adsorption properties and can serve as an efficient, stable, less toxic, and magnetically separable adsorbent for removal of Cr(VI) from aqueous solution.

The imidazolinone group of herbicides generally work for controlling weeds by limiting the synthesis of the aceto-hydroxy-acid enzyme, which is linked to the biosynthesis of branched-chain amino acids in plant cells. The herbicide imazethapyr is from the class and the active ingredient of this herbicide is the same as other herbicides Contour, Hammer, Overtop, Passport, Pivot, Pursuit, Pursuit Plus, and Resolve. It is commonly used for controlling weeds in soybeans, alfalfa hay, corn, rice, peanuts, etc. Generally, the herbicide imazethapyr is safe and non-toxic for target crops and environmentally friendly when it is used at low concentration levels. Even though crops are extremely susceptible to herbicide treatment at the seedling stage, there have been no observations of its higher dose on lentils (Lens culinaris Medik.) at that stage. The current study reports the consequence of imazethapyr treatment on phenolic acid and flavonoid contents along with the antioxidant activity of the phenolic extract. Imazethapyr treatment significantly increased the activities of several antioxidant enzymes, including phenylalanine ammonia lyase (PAL), phenol oxidase (POD), glutathione reductase (GR), and glutathione-s-transferase (GST), in lentil seedlings at doses of 0 RFD, 0.5 RFD, 1 RFD, 1.25 RFD, 1.5 RFD, and 2 RFD. Application of imazethapyr resulted in the 3.2 to 26.31 and 4.57-27.85% increase in mean phenolic acid and flavonoid content, respectively, over control. However, the consequent fold increase in mean antioxidant activity under 2, 2- diphenylpicrylhdrazyl (DPPH) and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assay system was in the range of 1.17-1.85 and 1.47-2.03%. Mean PAL and POD activities increased by 1.63 to 3.66 and 1.71 to 3.35-fold, respectively, in agreement with the rise in phenolic compounds, indicating that these enzyme's activities were modulated in response to herbicide treatment. Following herbicide treatments, the mean thiol content also increased significantly in corroboration with the enhancement in GR activity in a dose-dependent approach. A similar increase in GST activity was also observed with increasing herbicide dose.

Boza, a cereal-based beverage popular in southeast Europe, is fortified with probiotics and is believed to positively impact the composition of the gut microflora. This investigation focused on fermented cereal-based beverage boza to identify strains of probiotic Lactobacillus spp. capable of inhibiting carbohydrate-hydrolysing enzymes α-glucosidase (AG) and α-amylase (AA). The isolated bacterial strains underwent a comprehensive assessment, including biochemical, molecular, and probiotic trait analyses such as tolerance survivability, adhesion, safety, and health-promoting attributes. We evaluated the inhibitory potential of the supernatant, cell lysate, and intact cells of Lactobacillus spp. Molecular analysis has revealed that isolates RAMULAB30 and RAMULAB29 exhibit a significant genetic similarity (>97%) to Lacticaseibacillus paracasei and Limosilactobacillus fermentum, respectively. These findings are documented in the NCBI database. They exhibited significant resistance to gastrointestinal and intestinal fluids, also indicating their potential for adhesion. Additionally, the isolates showed a significant antibacterial activity, particularly against Micrococcus luteus. They showed resistance to vancomycin and methicillin antibiotics but were more susceptible to streptomycin and ampicillin. Furthermore, the strains demonstrated antioxidant properties. To ensure their safety, a haemolytic assay was conducted despite their general recognition as safe (GRAS) status. The study primarily aimed to evaluate the inhibitory effects of the extract on enzymes AG and AA. Bacterial isolates demonstrated a significant inhibitory activity against both enzyme AG (32%-67% inhibition) and enzyme AA (18%-46% inhibition) in different forms, including supernatant (CS), lysed extract (CE), and intact cell (IC). These findings underscore the potential of bacterial isolates to inhibit the enzyme activity effectively. Furthermore, the L. fermentum RAMULAB29 and L. paracasei RAMULAB30 strains exhibit remarkable antidiabetic potential. Food products incorporating these strains have promising prospects as nutraceuticals, providing improved health benefits.

Mastitis is one of the most common and burdensome diseases afflicting dairy animals. Among other causes of mastitis, staphylococci are frequently associated with clinical and subclinical mastitis. Although Staphylococcus aureus is the predominant species involved, Staphylococcus epidermidis and other coagulase-negative staphylococci are increasingly being isolated from cases of bovine mastitis. Although Staph. aureus and Staph. epidermidis can be easily differentiated based on their biochemical properties, such phenotypic identification is time consuming and laborious. This study aimed to rapidly identify Staph. aureus and Staph. epidermidis. Accordingly, a multiplex PCR was developed and we found that a single gene encoding the adhesin fibrinogen binding protein could be used to identify and differentiate the two species. Consequently, a multiplex reaction combining a triplex PCR for Staph. aureus and a duplex PCR for Staph. epidermidis was standardized, first using bacterial cultures and then with pasteurized milk spiked with live organisms or DNA extracted from the organisms. The test could specifically detect Staph. aureus and Staph. epidermidis even in the presence of a dozen other organisms. The limit of detection for detecting Staph. aureus and Staph. epidermidis separately was 10 to 100 cfu/mL for simplex PCR and 10(4)cfu/mL for multiplex PCR. Conversely, the limit was 10(6)cfu/mL by multiplex PCR for simultaneous detection of both the organisms when spiked into culture medium or pasteurized milk. Overnight enrichment enhanced the assay sensitivity 100-fold. The assay had a high diagnostic sensitivity and specificity. The application of the test was verified on 602 field isolates of staphylococci that had been characterized earlier by phenotypic methods. Importantly, 25 coagulase-negative isolates were identified as Staph. aureus by the multiplex PCR. The test could be adapted for use in clinical diagnostic laboratories.

RESUMO

We report a case of human fascioliasis adding to the few of the previously reported cases in India. A young boy from rural background in Bihar presented with diarrhea, vomiting, hepatic tenderness, jaundice and fever along with peripheral eosinophilia. Examination of stool revealed yellow-brown eggs of Fasciola hepatica. Human fascioliasis should be kept in mind in patients with cholangitis and eosinophilia especially in areas of sporadic occurrence.

There is growing evidence of beneficial effects of mindfulness developed through engaging in mindfulness training/practices on sensory and cognitive processing, emotion regulation and mental health. Mindfulness has also been conceptualised as a dispositional 'trait', i.e. the naturally-occurring ability of meditation-naïve individuals to display, in varying degree, a non-judgmental non-reactive present-moment awareness in everyday life. In this study we examined possible associations between dispositional mindfulness, alexithymia and sensory processing. Eye-blink startle responses to acoustic stimuli of varying intensity [90-dB or 100-dB over 70-dB (A) background] were assessed in 26 meditation-naïve adults (50 % men) using electromyographic recordings of the orbicularis muscle. All participants completed the Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire and the 20-item Toronto Alexithymia Scale. A negative association was found between dispositional mindfulness and alexithymia (r = -0.513). There was stronger startle habituation to 100-dB, compared to 90-dB probes. Stronger startle habituation (larger negative habitation slope values) to 100-dB probes was significantly associated with higher dispositional mindfulness (r = -0.528) and with lower alexithymia at trend level (r = 0.333). As indicated by commonality analysis, 10.6 % of explained variance in habituation (100-dB probes) was common to both alexithymia and mindfulness, 17.3 % was unique to mindfulness, but alexithymia made negligible unique contribution (0.5 %). These findings indicate similar startle habituation pattern in people with a high level of dispositional mindfulness to that reported previously by Antonova et al. (2015) in people with moderate mindfulness meditation practice intensity. Future studies should investigate the mechanisms, such as interoceptive awareness, that might underly these relationships.

Probiotics are live microorganisms with various health benefits when consumed in appropriate amounts. Fermented foods are a rich source of these beneficial organisms. This study aimed to investigate the probiotic potential of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) isolated from fermented papaya (Carica papaya L.) through in vitro methods. The LAB strains were thoroughly characterized, considering their morphological, physiological, fermentative, biochemical, and molecular properties. The LAB strain's adherence and resistance to gastrointestinal conditions, as well as its antibacterial and antioxidant capabilities, were examined. Moreover, the strains were tested for susceptibility against specific antibiotics, and safety evaluations encompassed the hemolytic assay and DNase activity. The supernatant of the LAB isolate underwent organic acid profiling (LCMS). The primary objective of this study was to assess the inhibitory activity of α-amylase and α-glucosidase enzymes, both in vitro and in silico. Gram-positive strains that were catalase-negative and carbohydrate fermenting were selected for further analysis. The LAB isolate exhibited resistance to acid bile (0.3% and 1%), phenol (0.1% and 0.4%), and simulated gastrointestinal juice (pH 3-8). It demonstrated potent antibacterial and antioxidant abilities and resistance to kanamycin, vancomycin, and methicillin. The LAB strain showed autoaggregation (83%) and adhesion to chicken crop epithelial cells, buccal epithelial cells, and HT-29 cells. Safety assessments indicated no evidence of hemolysis or DNA degradation, confirming the safety of the LAB isolates. The isolate's identity was confirmed using the 16S rRNA sequence. The LAB strain Levilactobacillus brevis RAMULAB52, derived from fermented papaya, exhibited promising probiotic properties. Moreover, the isolate demonstrated significant inhibition of α-amylase (86.97%) and α-glucosidase (75.87%) enzymes. In silico studies uncovered that hydroxycitric acid, one of the organic acids derived from the isolate, interacted with crucial amino acid residues of the target enzymes. Specifically, hydroxycitric acid formed hydrogen bonds with key amino acid residues, such as GLU233 and ASP197 in α-amylase, and ASN241, ARG312, GLU304, SER308, HIS279, PRO309, and PHE311 in α-glucosidase. In conclusion, Levilactobacillus brevis RAMULAB52, isolated from fermented papaya, possesses promising probiotic properties and exhibits potential as an effective remedy for diabetes. Its resistance to gastrointestinal conditions, antibacterial and antioxidant abilities, adhesion to different cell types, and significant inhibition of target enzymes make it a valuable candidate for further research and potential application in the field of probiotics and diabetes management.

Tooth wear is a multifactorial process of complex aetiology. It may be considered a physiological or pathological process depending upon the rate and degree of occurrence. The patients may present with symptoms of sensitivity, pain, headaches or recurrent loss of restorations and prostheses, leading to loss of function. This case report describes the rehabilitation of a 65-year-old male patient with intrinsic dental erosion combined with generalised attrition. The restorative treatment aimed at restoring anterior guidance, establishing a stable occlusion for the patient with minimal intervention.
