RESUMO

Prunella vulgaris has long been used in traditional medicine and is consumed as a tea in China. Here, the total phenolic and flavonoid concentrations of plants from different geographical regions were measured. It was found that the total phenolic acid concentration ranged from 4.15 to 8.82 g of gallic acid equivalent per 100 g of dry weight (DW), and the total flavonoid concentration was 4.67-7.33 g of rutin equivalent per 100 g DW. Antioxidant activities were measured using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl and 2,2'-azino-bis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) diammonium salt, and the results ranged from 73.47% to 94.43% and 74.54% to 93.39%, respectively, whereas α-glucosidase inhibition was between 75.31% and 95.49%. Correlation analysis showed that the total flavonoids in P. vulgaris had superior antioxidant and anti-α-glucosidase activities compared to the total phenolic compounds. The active components of P. vulgaris were analyzed using high-performance liquid chromatography quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry combined with both classical molecular networking and feature-based molecular networking on the Global Natural Products Social platform, identifying 32 compounds, namely 14 flavonoids, 12 phenolic compounds, and 6 other chemical components. These results could provide useful information on the use of P. vulgaris as a functional tea.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: To investigate the effect of SIB-IMRT-based selective dose escalation to local tumor on the prognosis of patients with esophageal cancer (EC). METHODS: A total of 302 EC patients were enrolled. The prognostic factors of the entire group were initially analyzed, and the composition ratios of the two groups and the different doses of each fraction for PTV were compared. The propensity-score matching (PSM) was carried out (1:1 ratio), and the prognostic factors for the two groups were analyzed according to the results of COX. RESULTS: The median overall survival (OS) for all patients was 30.0 months (23.495-36.505 months), and the median disease-free survival (DFS) was 21.3 months (7.698-24.902 months). In multivariate analysis, chemotherapy, cTNM stage and dose-per-fraction for the PTV were independent prognostic factors for OS (P = 0.013, 0.000, 0.028) and DFS (P = 0.033, 0.000, 0.047). Multivariate analysis of patients after PSM revealed that cTNM staging and dose-per-fraction were the independent prognostic factors for OS (P = 0.000, 0.015). Chemotherapy, cTNM staging and dose-per-fraction for the PTV were the independent prognostic factors for DFS (P = 0.025, 0.010, 0.015). There was no significant difference in grade ≥ 2 acute toxicities between the two groups. A subgroup analysis of patients with a single dose of 2 Gy and > 2 Gy in the SIB-IMRT group showed that OS and DFS of the latter were significantly better than those of the former. CONCLUSION: The selective dose escalation to local tumors based on SIB-IMRT technique can improve the survival of patients received radical radiotherapy without increasing toxicities.

RESUMO

This study aimed to develop a Chinese Healthy Eating Index for School-age Children (CHEI-SC), apply it in the 2011 China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS) to assess dietary quality, and compared it with our former developed index named CHEI. Data of 3-day 24-hour diet recalls and household food inventory survey from 1600 school-age children in CHNS-2011 were used to develop the CHEI-SC, using the methods of standard portion size, energy-density-based approach, and least restrictive approach. The CHEI-SC included 19 components with a total score (T-score) ranging from 0 to 100. The investigated children had a median score of 49.6. Children with a higher T-score were more likely to have higher social economic status (SES), higher level of urbanisation, fewer family size, and regularly attending school. The CHEI-SC was able to assess dietary quality of Chinese school-age children, was sensitive to demographics, and more comprehensive and accurate than the CHEI.

RESUMO

Streptococcus suis is an important zoonotic pathogen causing infections in pigs and humans. Bacterial surface-related proteins are often explored as potential vaccine candidates and diagnostic antigens. In the present study, glutamate dehydrogenase, a highly conserved immunogenic extracellular protein, was used to establish a dot horseradish peroxidase enzyme-linked staphylococcal protein A immunosorbent assay (Dot-PPA-ELISA) for diagnosis of S. suis infection. The antigen-antibody reaction was optimised through checkerboard titration involving serial dilutions, followed by selective blocking tests and evaluations of cross-reaction, repeatability, and stability. Comparative analysis by using a conventional plate ELISA kit showed that the specificity and sensitivity of the Dot-PPA-ELISA were 97.5 and 96.6%, respectively. Furthermore, dynamic changes in the levels of antibody in rabbits immunised with a propolis inactivated vaccine were monitored by Dot-PPA-ELISA. A total seroprevalence of 73.1% in 305 pig serum samples indicated the method's applicability to detect S. suis infection. Cumulatively, the results suggested that Dot-PAA-ELISA is a convenient, rapid, sensitive, and specific diagnostic method suitable for studying large numbers of samples obtained from clinical and epidemiological studies, thereby helping reduce important economic losses.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Five-year overall survival rate of TESCC after surgery is low (approximately 30% to 60%), so it is meaningful to discuss the significance of PORT. METHODS: We retrospectively collected the data of 227 patients with PT3N0M0 esophageal cancer (EC). The failure pattern after surgery was analyzed. Difference of adjuvant PORT in patients with PT3N0M0 TESCC and the appropriate population were explored based on the relevant studies. RESULTS: There were 58 cases with intrathoracic locoregional recurrence (LRR) after radical surgery and 27 cases with distant metastasis, including 10 cases of recurrence. The recurrence rate of mediastinal lymph nodes in the thoracic cavity was 50.0%. Univariate analysis revealed that compared with patients with middle and lower thoracic EC, the 3/5-year survival rate of patients with upper thoracic EC was significantly lower, accompanied with remarkably higher thoracic LRR. Compared with those with moderately- and well-differentiated TESCC, the 3/5-year survival rate of patients with poorly differentiated TESCC was significantly lower, whereas the distant metastasis rate was notably higher. Multivariate analysis revealed that different lesion locations and different pathologic differentiation were the independent prognostic factors. The lesion location and degree of differentiation were the independent influencing factors for thoracic LRR and distant metastasis, respectively. CONCLUSION: The intrathoracic LRR is the major failure pattern for patients with PT3N0M0 TESCC after conventional two-field lymphadenectomy. In addition, recurrence rate of PT3N0M0 TESCC was significantly higher in upper thoracic EC than in middle and lower thoracic EC. PORT is recommended to patients with PT3N0M0 upper TESCC.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Consuming phthalates may be due to the presence of food contact materials, such as plastic containers. In this study, we investigated the association between plastic container use and phthalate exposure in 2,140 Shanghai adults. METHODS: Participants completed a questionnaire on the frequency of using plastic containers in different scenarios in the previous year (e.g., daily, weekly) and on the consumption of plastic-packaged foods in the previous three days (yes or no). Urinary phthalate metabolites were used to assess the association between phthalate exposure and the use of plastic containers. RESULTS: The metabolites of di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) were the most frequently detected in urine. The results revealed that phthalate exposure was associated with consumption of plastic-packaged breakfast or processed food items in the previous three days. The consumption of these two food items had strong synergistic effects on increasing urinary concentrations of most phthalate metabolites. CONCLUSION: Our results of plastic-packaged breakfast and processed food may be explained by the use of flexible plastic containers, indicating the importance of risk assessment for the application of flexible plastic containers.

RESUMO

Phthalates are ubiquitous environmental pollutants because of the broad use of plastics. We conducted a case-control study to determine whether uterine leiomyomata were related to exposure to phthalates. Urine specimens and questionnaires were collected from 61 cases and 61 age-matched controls. Nine phthalate monoesters were determined by ultra performance liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectroscopy. Cases had significantly higher levels of creatinine-adjusted mono-iso-butyl phthalate (MiBP), mono-n-butyl phthalate (MnBP), mono-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (MEHP), mono-2-ethyl-5-oxohexyl phthalate, mono-2-ethyl-5-hydroxyhexyl phthalate (MEHHP), mono(2-ethyl-5-carboxypentyl) phthalate (MECPP), total di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate metabolites (∑DEHPmet), and total dibutyl phthalate metabolites (∑DBP(met)) than controls. After adjusting for potential confounders, logistic regression analyses demonstrated that leiomyomata were positively associated with MiBP, MnBP, MEHP, MEHHP, MECPP, ∑DEHP(met), and ∑DBP(met). In summary, our data support the hypothesis that uterine leiomyomata are related to phthalate exposure.

RESUMO

Photonic crystal fiber can generate particular dispersion properties and highly nonlinear, because of the special guiding mechanism and the adjustable structure parameters, which provides new conditions for the study of nonlinear fiber optics. There are rich nonlinear spectral properties produced by a variety of nonlinear physical effect, under different pump light pulse parameters in photonic crystal fibers with different structure and transmission properties. At present many papers have reported the experimental results of nonlinear optical properties in photonic crystal fiber, but there is little theoretical analysis about the produced mechanism and the change rule of the nonlinear spectrum. In the paper, solving nonlinear Schrodinger equation with split-step Fourier method, transmission process of femtosecond laser pulse in photonic crystal fiber is simulated. The relationship between the output spectrum and incident light pulse parameters (the peak power of pump light P, the wavelength of pump light λ, the shape of light pulse, the width of light pulse TFWHM), the structure parameters of optical fiber (the pitch Λ, the hole-to-pitch ratio d/Λ, the length of fiber), the transmission characteristics (the dispersion properties, the nonlinear coefficient) is obtained. The spectral characteristics produced by nonlinear effects of the Raman soliton, dispersive wave, self-phase modulation are analyzed. The nonlinear optical spectrum of cladding note in photonic crystal fiber is studied in experiments, the broadband spectrum of soliton wave and dispersive wave is obtained. There are blue-shift dispersive wave near the wavelength of 0.5 µm, residual pump light near the wavelength of 0.82 µm, soliton wave near the wavelength of 1.1 µm, red-shift broadband dispersion wave near the wavelength of 2 µm in the spectrum obtained both in theory and experiment. The numerical simulation is confirmed through experimental observation. The physics principle of the nonlinear spectrum in photonic crystal fiber is revealed. These are useful and practical to realize the controllable output of broadband spectrum. These provide guidance for the structure design, fabrication, applied research of high nonlinear photonic crystal fiber.

RESUMO

A modified structure of single-polarization single-mode (SPSM) photonic crystal fiber (PCF) with different background materials is presented and analyzed by using the full-vector finite-element method. Simulation results confirmed that the proposed PCF can realize low-loss SPSM on three wavebands with the same structure and different background materials. The wavebands are 1.46-1.60 µm for silica-based fiber, 1.97-2.3 µm for lead silicate glass fiber, and 3.16-3.58 µm for chalcogenide glass fiber. For three PCFs with different background materials, only the slow-axis mode exists and the confinement loss is less than 100 dB/m in the SPSM wavebands.

RESUMO

A novel design of Au-filled photonic crystal fiber (PCF) with square lattice has been proposed in this paper. The resonance strength of the surface plasmon mode and the impacts of structural parameters of the PCF on the polarization filter characteristics are studied through the finite element method. Numerical results show that the sizes of Au wires and the symmetry of the air holes near the fiber core have a great effect on the polarization filter characteristics. In the optimization process, it was found that the resonance strengths can reach 279.10 and 399.18 dB/cm at wavelengths of 1.02 µm and 1.55 µm, respectively, which can be applied in many polarization filter devices.

RESUMO

The concentrations of 16 phthalates in 164 commercial Chinese rice wines (CRW) were detected by GC-MS, and consumption data on CRW in different packaging types was investigated from 634 adult males in Shanghai using a food frequency questionnaire. Based on the principles of probabilistic modelling and cumulative risk assessment, the exposure and health risk of phthalates from CRW to adult males in Shanghai was evaluated. DMP, DEP, DIBP, DnBP, BBP, and DEHP were detected in the samples, the range of detection frequency of individual phthalates varied from 6.10% for BBP to 15.24% for DIBP, and the detected concentrations were 51.06-200.34 ng/mL. All the respondents consumed CRW, 90.69% of them consumed CRW 0.01-49.9 mL/d, the minimum value of the average daily intake of CRW was 6.25 mL/d, the median was 13.72 mL/d and the maximum was 300 mL/d. The median exposure level of the 6 detected Phthalates to adult males in Shanghai were 6.58-7.10 ng/(d•kg), and the maximum exposure level were 137.38-540.47 ng/(d•kg). The cumulative exposure health risk index (HI) based on the median and maximum exposure level of the 6 Phthalates (DMP, DEP, DIBP, DnBP, BBP, and DEHP) were 0.001147 and 0.063396, both were far less than 1. In conclusion, CRW were generally consumed by the adult males in Shanghai, although multiple phthalates were detected in commercial CRW, health risk of such exposure levels from commercial CRW to the target adult males in Shanghai was very low.

RESUMO

In the present paper, the four-wave mixing principle of fiber was analyzed, and the high-gain phase-matching conditions were shown. The nonlinear coefficient and dispersion characteristics of photonic crystal fibers were calculated by multipole method. The phase mismatch characteristics of fibers with multiple zero-dispersion wavelengths were analyzed for the first time. The changing rules of phase matching wavelength with the pump wavelength and the pump power were obtained, and the phase matching curves were shown. The characteristics of phase matching wavelengths for different dispersion curves were analyzed. There are four new excitation wavelengths of four-wave mixing spectrum in two zero-dispersion wavelength photonic crystal fiers. Four-wave mixing spectroscopy of photonic crystal fibers with two zero-dispersion wavelengths was obtained in the experi-ent, which is consistent with the theoretical analysis, and verified the reliability of the phase matching theory. The fiber with multiple zero-dispersion wavelengths can create a ricbhphase-matching topology, excite more four-wave mixing wavelengths, ena-ling enhanced control over the spectral locations of the four-wave mixing and resonant-radiation bands emitted by solitons and short pulses. These provide theoretical guidance for photonic crystal fiber wavelength conversion and supercontinoum generation based on four-wave mixing.

RESUMO

The epothilones, compounds with anticancer mechanisms similar to that of paclitaxel (Taxol), are produced by strains of the myxobacterium Sorangium cellulosum, and the gene cluster responsible for epothilone biosynthesis is organised as a large operon. In this work, we showed that the 440-bp promoter regions of the operons from eight S. cellulosum strains have 94.27 % DNA sequence identity and 50 % variability in promoter activity in Escherichia coli. A primer extension analysis revealed two transcriptional start sites (TSSs) at 246 (TSS1) and 193 bp (TSS2) upstream of the translation start site (TLS), respectively. Promoter truncation determined that the basal promoter from the So0157-2 strain is located within a 264-bp region containing weak promoter activity; whereas in the 38-bp region upstream, the 264-bp promoter was required for the strong promoter activity, which was dramatically increased by 11-fold in average. There was a conserved stem-loop structure between TSS2 and the TLS, which was identified in E. coli as a negative regulatory element. In addition, the upstream non-conserved 357-bp non-coding region contributes to the promoter activity, increasing it by 1.5-fold. In conclusion, the expression of the epothilone operon non-coding region in E. coli is regulated by a double promoter (with -35 and -10 regions and two distinct TSSs), a stem-loop structure, and a distal non-coding region.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observe in vitro and in vivo effects of triptolide on growth inhibition and apoptosis of osteosarcoma cells, and to further explore its correlated molecular mechanisms. METHODS: The growth inhibition effects of triptolide on osteosarcoma cells were detected using MTT assay. The apoptosis was detected using flow cytometry. The protein expressions of associated signals were detected using Western blot. The in vivo anti-osteosarcoma effects of triptolide were verified in osteosarcoma nude mice. The in vivo associated protein expressions were detected using immunohistochemistry (IHC). RESULTS: Triptolide could significantly inhibit the proliferation of various osteosarcoma cells. Besides, it could induce their apoptosis. Triptolide triggered the mitochondrial dependent apoptotic pathway, significantly inhibited the in vivo growth of osteosarcoma cells, and caused in vivo apoptosis. CONCLUSIONS: Triptolide induced apoptosis of osteosarcoma cells partially through activating mitochondria associated apoptosis signal pathway. Triptolide also induced apoptosis of osteosarcoma cells and inhibited their in vivo growth in nude mice.

RESUMO

The authors studied the nonlocalized interference in multiple-beam interferometer. The light intensity distribution function was obtained. The result shows that the function in the circle center has the same form with localized interference. Numerical simulation method was used to analyse the light intensity distribution function. As the reflection coefficient increases, the stripe becomes sharp, Resolution ratio was improved, while the noise occured around the lower interference index. The noise becomes obviously as the reflection coefficient increases. While changing the receiving screen distance, the simulation result shows that linear relationship exists between inteference index and cosine value of interference stripe dip angle. The mirror spacing can be obtained through the straight line slope. With changing the mirror spacing, the numerical simulation result shows that linear relationship exists between interference index and stripe radii square. The straight slope shows a linear relationship with the mirror spacing.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To explore the status of glucometabolic abnormalities in cardiological outpatients without previous diabetes diagnosis and with coronary artery disease (CAD) and hypertension. METHODS: Patients without previous diagnosis of diabetes but with hypertension and CAD aged 18 years or above were recruited from cardiology departments of 11 general hospitals in China. Demographic data, disease diagnosis and medical history were collected. Physical examination and questionnaire survey were performed after the random blood glucose test. Oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) examination was made for patients with fasting blood glucose ≥ 6.1 mmol/L or postprandial random glucose ≥ 7.8 mmol/L. Adjusted prevalence rates were used in the study. RESULTS: A total of 7778 patients were included in 11 centers. After preliminary screening by fasting blood glucose and random blood glucose tests, 3861 patients were required to take OGTT, and 3019 (78.2%) patients actually took the test. 1287 out of 3019 patients screened with OGTT were diagnosed with diabetes, and the adjusted diabetes prevalence rate was 18.64% (1287/6904). The prevalence rate of diabetes was 19.87% (95/478), 9.22% (352/3819) and 14.81% (153/1033) in patients with CAD, hypertension, and CAD combined with hypertension, respectively. A total of 996 patients were diagnosed with impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and its prevalence was 14.43% (996/6904). Of the enrolled population, 153 patients with random blood glucose lower than 7.8 mmol/L were also screened with OGTT test, 26.14% (40/153) patients met the diagnostic criteria of diabetes. CONCLUSION: A high prevalence of diabetes is found in patients without previous diagnosis of diabetes and with hypertension and CAD consulting at cardiology departments. We thus suggest to perform OGTT in this patient cohort to improve the early diagnosis of IGT and diabetes, and prevent missed detection of type 2 diabetes mellitus or IGT in cardiovascular patients with normal fasting blood glucose. Our results indicate that it was feasible to use OGTT as a screening tool for detecting diabetes in these patients and the patient compliance is satisfactory.

RESUMO

The lighter magnesium (Mg) isotopic signatures observed in intraplate basalts are commonly thought to result from deep carbonate recycling, provided that the sharp difference in Mg isotopic composition between surface carbonates and the normal mantle is preserved during plate subduction. However, deep subduction of carbonates and silicates could potentially fractionate Mg isotopes and change their chemical compositions. Subducting silicate rocks that experience metamorphic dehydration lose a small amount of Mg, and preserve the original Mg isotopic signature of their protoliths. When the dehydrated fluids dissolve carbonate minerals, they may evolve into lighter Mg isotopic compositions. The solubility of carbonate minerals in fluids decreases in the order of calcite, aragonite, dolomite, magnesite and siderite, leading to selective and partial dissolution of carbonate minerals along the subduction path. At the island arc depth (70-120 km), the metamorphic fluid dissolves mainly Mg-poor calcites, and thus the fluid has difficulty modifying the Mg isotopic system of the mantle wedge and associated arc basalts. At the greater depth of the back arc system or continental margin (>150 km), the supercritical fluid can dissolve Mg-rich carbonate minerals, and its interaction with the mantle wedge could significantly imprint the light Mg isotopic signature onto the mantle rocks and derivatives. Meanwhile, the carbonate and silicate remaining within the subducting slab could experience elemental and isotopic exchange, during which the silicate can obtain a light Mg isotopic signature and high CaO/Al2O3, whereas the carbonates, particularly the Ca-rich limestone, shift Mg isotopes and MgO contents towards higher values. If this isotopic and elemental exchange event occurs widely during crustal subduction, subducted Ca-rich carbonates can partially transform into being Mg-rich, and a portion of recycled silicates (e.g. carbonated eclogites) can have light Mg isotopic composition alongside carbonates. Both serve as the low-δ26Mg endmember recycled back into the deep mantle, but the latter is not related to deep carbonate recycling. Therefore, it is important to determine whether the light Mg isotopic signatures observed in intraplate basalts are linked to deep carbonate recycling, or alternatively, recycling of carbonated eclogites.

RESUMO

Purpose: The value of lymphadenectomy during radical nephroureterectomy (RNU) remains unclear. This study aimed to determine the effects of the removed lymph node (RLN) counts, positive lymph node (pLN) counts, and pLN density (pLND) on survival outcomes in patients with node-positive upper urinary tract urothelial cancer (UTUC). Methods: A total of 306 patients with node-positive UTUC in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database between 2004 and 2016 were identified. Multivariable Cox regression analyses were used to evaluate the effect of RLN counts, pLN counts, and pLND on survival outcomes. The maximally selected rank statistics were used to determine the most informative cutoff value for pLND on survival outcomes. Results: The RLN counts or pLN counts were not associated with survival outcomes, whereas higher pLND was associated with lower cancer-specific survival (CSS) and overall survival (OS) [hazard ratio (HR) 1.75, P = 0.014 and HR 1.62, P = 0.036, respectively]. The most informative cutoff value for pLND in relation to survival was 27%. Patients with pLND ≥27% had worse 5-year survival rates than those with pLND <27% (52.9% vs. 75.9% for CSS and 18.7% vs. 34.2% for OS, each P < 0.05). Furthermore, the multivariable Cox regression model with pLND could predict 5-year CSS (AUC 0.732 vs. 0.647) or OS (AUC 0.704 vs. 0.621) more accurately than the model without pLND. Conclusions: For patients with node-positive UTUC, more lymph nodes removed do not offer a better therapeutic effect. However, pLND provides additional prognostic value.

RESUMO

Background: The prediction of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) survival is challenging because of its rapid progression. In recent years, necroptosis was found to be involved in the progression of multiple cancer types. However, the role of necroptosis in HCC remains unclear. Methods: Clinicopathological parameters and transcriptomic data of 370 HCC patients were obtained from TCGA-LIHC dataset. Prognosis-related necroptosis genes (PRNGs) were identified and utilized to construct a LASSO risk model. The GEO cohorts (GSE54236 and GSE14520) were used for external validation. We evaluated the distribution of HCC patients, the difference in prognosis, and the accuracy of the prognostic prediction of the LASSO risk model. The immune microenvironment and functional enrichment of different risk groups were further clarified. Finally, we performed a drug sensitivity analysis on the PRNGs that constructed the LASSO model and verified their mRNA expression levels in vitro. Results: A total of 48 differentially expressed genes were identified, 23 of which were PRNGs. We constructed the LASSO risk model using nine genes: SQSTM1, FLT3, HAT1, PLK1, MYCN, KLF9, HSP90AA1, TARDBP, and TNFRSF21. The outcomes of low-risk patients were considerably better than those of high-risk patients in both the training and validation cohorts. In addition, stronger bile acid metabolism, xenobiotic metabolism, and more active immune cells and immune functions were observed in low-risk patients, and high expressions of TARDBP, PLK1, and FLT3 were associated with greater drug sensitivity. With the exception of FLT3, the mRNA expression of the other eight genes was verified in Huh7 and 97H cells. Conclusions. The PRNG signature provides a novel and effective method for predicting the outcome of HCC as well as potential targets for further research.

RESUMO

Objective: To evaluate the predictive role of nodal skip metastasis (NSM) in the prognosis of lymph node-positive mid-thoracic esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, and to evaluate the significance of postoperative adjuvant treatment in patients with different sites of metastatic nodes. Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on clinical data of 321 lymph node-positive mid-thoracic esophageal squamous cell carcinoma patients who underwent surgery in the Fourth Hospital of Hebei Medical University. Based on the site and condition of lymph node metastasis by postoperative pathology, the patients were divided into two groups: NSM group and non-NSM (NNSM) group. The propensity score matching (PSM) method was employed to match the two groups. The prognostic factors of patients before and after PSM as well as the effect of different adjuvant treatment modes on the prognosis of patients before and after PSM were analyzed. SPSS 29.0 statistical software was used for analysis. Results: PSM in a 1 : 1 matching ratio was performed, 103 patients were assigned to NSM group and NNSM group respectively. Significant differences were found in the 3- and 5-year OS and DFS between the two groups before PSM, the 3- and 5-year OS also showed a significant difference after PSM (P < 0.05). Multivariate analysis illustrated that gender, postoperative adjuvant treatment mode, N stage and lymph node metastasis were independent risk factors for OS and DFS after PSM (P < 0.05); for NSM patients, postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy and radiotherapy significantly prolonged OS and DFS before and after PSM (P < 0.05). But no significant difference was found in OS and DFS for NNSM patients after PSM (P > 0.05). Conclusion: Postoperative NSM is a good prognostic factor for patients with mid-thoracic esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, postoperative adjuvant chemoradiotherapy was recommended for those group, thereby gaining survival benefits.
