RESUMO

Existing polarimetry, mainly focusing on harmonic generations, overlooks the differences in retardance (DRs) caused by illuminations with different wavelengths in nonlinear processes, consequently falling short in accuracy beyond frequency doubling. In this Letter, with DRs considered, we propose a universal nonlinear Stokes-Mueller (NSM) polarimetry design involving illuminations with different wavelengths. Then, we optimize the NSM measurement model, applied to sum-frequency generation (SFG) and difference frequency generation. To demonstrate the necessity of consideration of DRs, the processes of polarization measurement for SFG are simulated, where the condition number decreases by 51.2%, and the root mean square error of the nonlinear Mueller matrix decreases by 20.48%.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: We aimed to verify the effectiveness of electroacupuncture on postoperative ileus prevention after abdominal surgery by meta-analysis and trial sequential analysis (TSA). METHODS: From inception to May 14, 2024, PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Embase databases were searched. TSA was used to determine an optimal sample size and control false-positive findings. The primary outcome was the time to first defecation (hours). RESULTS: Fourteen studies were included, with 1105 participants. Meta-analysis and TSA revealed firm evidence for benefits that electroacupuncture shorted the time to first defecation (mean difference [MD] -12.73 h, I2 = 22%, P < 0.01), the time to first flatus (MD -7.03 h, I2 = 25%, P < 0.01), the time to start of sips of water (MD -12.02 h, I2 = 0%, P < 0.01), and the time to start of liquid diet (MD -12.97 h, I2 = 0%, P < 0.01) compared with usual care. While compared with sham electroacupuncture, meta-analysis and TSA also confirmed that electroacupuncture shortened the time to first defecation (MD -10.81 h, I2 = 31%, P = 0.02) and the time to first flatus (MD -10.81 h, I2 = 0%, P < 0.01). However, TSA revealed that firm evidence for benefit or futility was not reached for the length of hospital stay and the rates of postoperative prolonged ileus. CONCLUSIONS: Electroacupuncture shortened the duration of postoperative ileus in patients undergoing abdominal surgery, and the adverse events related to electroacupuncture were minor. Further investigation of the effect of electroacupuncture on the risk of prolonged postoperative ileus is warranted in the future.

RESUMO

Local phase retardation (LPR) is increasingly recognized as a crucial biomarker for assessing disease progression. However, the presence of speckle noise significantly challenges its accuracy and polarization contrast. To address this challenge, we propose a signal-processing strategy aimed at reducing the impact of noise on LPR measurements. In this approach, the LPR is reconstructed by polar decomposition after averaging multiple Mueller matrices from different overlapping sub-spectra. To optimize measurement accuracy, we systematically combined and traversed different sub-spectral numbers and bandwidths. By examining the quarter-wave plate and glass slide, high-accuracy phase retardation measurements were successfully verified, and the maximum polarization contrast was improved by 23%. Moreover, experimental results from multi-tissue imaging vividly illustrate that the equivalent number of looks (ENL) and polarization contrast were improved by 18% and 19%, respectively. This outcome indicates that our proposed strategy can effectively reduce the noise spikes, enhancing tissue discrimination capabilities.

RESUMO

The collinear reflection Mueller matrix imaging polarimeter is suitable for characterizing thick samples with high-scattering depolarization such as biological tissues or in-situ living organs. Achieving fast detection and high measurement accuracy is vital to prevent artifacts and accurately assess polarization characteristics in these applications. This paper demonstrates a fast collinear reflection imaging polarimeter based on liquid crystal variable retarders (LCVRs-CRMMIP). We propose a novel compound calibration method (CCM), to the best of our knowledge, which enhances measurement accuracy through light intensity correction and an improved equivalent calibration sample model. This method surpasses the double-pass eigenvalue calibration method (dp-ECM), enhancing accuracy by over 23 times. Performance evaluations with standard samples, including mirrors, linear polarizers, and wave plates, reveal that the LCVRs-CRMMIP achieves rapid measurements (about 3 s) and high accuracy with an error of less than 0.0017.

RESUMO

A new method, to the best of our knowledge, based on double-slit (DS) interference is proposed to accurately estimate the shear ratio of the system, with plane wave or spherical wave incidence. Existing shear ratio calibration methods, designed primarily for lateral shearing interferometry (LSI) with plane wave incidence, are not applicable to LSIs directly testing divergent or convergent spherical waves. Equations for calculating the shear ratio using the fringe spacing of the DS interferogram and the NA of the incident spherical wave are derived in this paper. The simulation result shows that the relative error of the shear ratio value is about 0.3%, when the shear ratio is 0.1. In the experiment, the quadriwave LSI is designed with a plug-in feature. The shear ratio at integer multiples of 1/6 Talbot distance from the modified Hartmann mask was calibrated using a DS, and the results were in good agreement with theoretical values, confirming the accuracy of the method. Subsequently, with the assistance of an inductance micrometer, the shear ratio was calibrated at intervals of 0.5 mm, and the results closely matched the theoretical variation of the shear ratio caused by displacement, confirming the high precision of the method.

RESUMO

Source mask optimization (SMO) is a widely used computational lithography technique for compensating lithographic distortion. However, line-end shortening is still a key factor that cannot be easily corrected and affects the image fidelity of lithography at advanced nodes. This paper proposes a source mask optimization method that suppresses line-end shortening and improves lithography fidelity. An adaptive hybrid weight method is employed to increase the weights of the line end during the optimization, which adaptively updates the weights in each iteration according to the edge placement error (EPE). A cost function containing a penalty term based on the normalized image log slope (NILS) is established to ensure the fidelity of the overall feature when paying more attention to the line-end region. The scope of this penalty term is regulated by widening and extending the split contour to further reduce the line-end shortening. Simulation results show that the proposed method can effectively suppress the line-end shortening and improve the lithography fidelity compared with the traditional SMO method.

RESUMO

Temporomandibular joint dislocation is a common challenge in dental care, but it can be promptly addressed through manual realignment, making it standard procedure in the realm of oral health. Nonetheless, effectively preventing and treating chronic protracted mandibular dislocation (CPMD), characterized by prolonged dislocation, remains a significant challenge. Hence, a retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 10 patients diagnosed with chronic protracted mandibular dislocation (CPMD), encompassing diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis details. CPMD tends to be more prevalent among the elderly population, with an average age of 67.2±11.9 years and a male-to-female ratio of 1:9. All diagnosed patients presented with bilateral anterior dislocation, each requiring diverse pre-treatment approaches. The most significant risk factor contributing to CPMD was unconsciousness resulting from nervous system injury, which delayed the perception of symptoms associated with temporomandibular joint dislocation. 90% of CPMD patients experienced successful treatment through manual reduction, while a refractory CPMD cohort, resistant to manual reduction, necessitated surgical intervention for resolution. All patients underwent treatment involving elastic intermaxillary traction, which served as the primary means of achieving reduction. Subsequent analysis of CT data revealed that condylar displacement beyond the zygomatic arch served as an indication for surgical reduction. Consequently, manual reduction under general anesthesia combined with elastic intermaxillary traction proved effective for managing CPMD cases. However, cases displaying excessive vertical displacement beyond the zygomatic arch should be considered for surgical intervention based on CT findings.

RESUMO

π-Conjugated chiral nanorings with intriguing electronic structures and chiroptical properties have attracted considerable interests in synthetic chemistry and materials science. We present the design principles to access new chiral macrocycles (1 and 2) that are essentially built on the key components of main-group electron-donating carbazolyl moieties or the π-expanded aza[7]helicenes. Both macrocycles show the unique molecular conformations with a (quasi) figure-of-eight topology as a result of the conjugation patterns of 2,2',7,7'-spirobifluorenyl in 1 and triarylamine-coupled aza[7]helicene-based building blocks in 2. This electronic nature of redox-active, carbazole-rich backbones enabled these macrocycles to be readily oxidized chemically and electrochemically, leading to the sequential production of a series of positively charged polycationic open-shell cyclophanes. Their redox-dependent electronic states of the resulting multispin polyradicals have been characterized by VT-ESR, UV/Vis-NIR absorption and spectroelectrochemical measurements. The singlet (ΔES-T=-1.29 kcal mol-1) and a nearly degenerate singlet-triplet ground state (ΔES-T(calcd)=-0.15 kcal mol-1 and ΔES-T(exp)=0.01 kcal mol-1) were proved for diradical dications 12+2⋅ and 22+2⋅, respectively. Our work provides an experimental proof for the construction of electron-donating new chiral nanorings, and more importantly for highly charged polyradicals with potential applications in chirospintronics and organic conductors.

RESUMO

Gastric cancer is one of the most common malignant digestive cancers, and its diagnostic has still faced challenges based on metabolic analysis due to complex sample pretreatment and low metabolite abundance. In this study, inspired by the structure of bovine omasum, we in situ synthesized a novel interfacial carbon-based nanocomposite of graphene supported nickel nanoparticles-encapsulated in the nitrogen-doped carbon nanotube (Ni/N-CNT/rGO), which was served as a novel matrix with enhanced ionization efficiency for the matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) saliva metabolic analysis of gastric cancer. Benefiting from its high sp2 graphitic degree, large surface area, strong UV absorption, and rich active sites, Ni/N-CNT/rGO matrix exhibited excellent performances of reproducibility, coverage, salt-tolerance, sensitivity, and adsorption ability in MALDI-TOF MS. The differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermal conversion behaviors explained the highly efficient LDI mechanism. Based on saliva metabolic fingerprints, Ni/N-CNT/rGO assisted LDI MS with cross-validation analysis could successfully distinguish gastric cancer patients from healthy controls through the screening of four potential biomarkers with an accuracy of 92.50%, specificity of 88.03%, and sensitivity of 97.12%. This work provided a fast and sensitive MS sensing platform for the metabolomics characterization of gastric cancer and might have potential value for precision medicine in the future.

RESUMO

The channeled spectropolarimeter (CSP) measures the spectrally-resolved Stokes vector from a snapshot by employing spectral modulation. The spectral modulation transfer function (SMTF) of the spectrometer preferentially suppresses the high-frequency channel amplitude in CSP, resulting in reduced measurement accuracy. This paper rigorously derives the SMTF theory and proposes an efficient calibration method for SMTF via channel shifting in a CSP. The SMTF value, obtained by channel shifting, is used to correct the high-frequency channel amplitude. Moreover, alignment and phase errors, as well as nonlinear dispersion, are compensated in situ. Other than rotating the retarder twice, no additional instruments or algorithms are required in the proposed method. In simulations and experiments, the proposed method shows high accuracy, with a maximum root-mean-square error (RMSE) of the reconstructed Stokes spectrum below 0.01, demonstrating its potential for enhancing the simplicity and practicability of Stokes CSP.

RESUMO

Mueller polarimetry performed in low light field with high speed and accuracy is important for the diagnosis of living biological tissues. However, efficient acquisition of the Mueller matrix at low light field is challenging owing to the interference of background-noise. In this study, a spatially modulated Mueller polarimeter (SMMP) induced by a zero-order vortex quarter wave retarder is first presented to acquire the Mueller matrix rapidly using only four camera shots rather than 16 shots, as in the state of the art technique. In addition, a momentum gradient ascent algorithm is proposed to accelerate the reconstruction of the Mueller matrix. Subsequently, a novel adaptive hard thresholding filter combined with the spatial distribution characteristics of photons at different low light levels, in addition to a low-pass fast-Fourier-transform filter, is utilized to remove redundant background noise from raw-low intensity distributions. The experimental results illustrate that the proposed method is more robust to noise perturbation, and its precision is almost an order of magnitude higher than that of the classical dual-rotating retarder Mueller polarimetry at low light field.

RESUMO

Inverse lithography technology (ILT), such as source mask optimization (SMO), is used to improve lithography performance. Usually, a single objective cost function is selected in ILT, and an optimal structure for one field point is achieved. The optimal structure is not the case for other images at full field points where the aberrations of the lithography system are different, even in high-quality lithography tools. The optimal structure that must match the high-performance images at the full field is urgently required for extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUVL). In contrast, multi-objective optimization algorithms (MOAs) limit the application of multi-objective ILT. Assigning target priority is incomplete in current MOAs, which results in the over-optimization of some targets and under-optimization of others. In this study, multi-objective ILT and a hybrid dynamic priority (HDP) algorithm were investigated and developed. High-performance images with high fidelity and high uniformity were obtained at multi-field and multi-clip areas across the die. A hybrid criterion was developed for the completion and reasonable prioritization of each target to ensure sufficient improvement. Compared to the current MOAs, the uniformity of images at full-field points was improved by up to 31.1% by the HDP algorithm in the case of multi-field wavefront error-aware SMO. The multi-clip source optimization (SO) problem showed the universality of the HDP algorithm to deal with different ILT problems. It acquired higher imaging uniformity than existing MOAs, which indicated that the HDP is more qualified for multi-objective ILT optimization than existing MOAs.

RESUMO

A facile and versatile protocol for the efficient synthesis of 3-aryl-2,3-dihydrobenzofuran (ADB) has been reported first. This reaction features the cyclization and aryl migration reaction of ortho-hydroxystilbene in ethanol, which is mediated by an iodonium ion, under ambient conditions. A class of ADB was prepared efficiently in good to excellent yields. Mechanism investigation revealed that acids and alcohols facilitated aryl migration, but alkaline and non-alcohol solvents promoted ß elimination. The practicality of this strategy was further substantiated by two scale-up reactions and demonstrated in efficient synthetic elaboration.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Esophageal post-reflux swallow-induced peristaltic wave index (PSPWI) and mean nocturnal baseline impedance (MNBI), novel impedance-based markers of reflux burden, are associated with esophageal dynamics. We aim to investigate the characteristics of PSPWI and MNBI in Chinese refractory gastroesophageal reflux disease (RGERD) patients with different esophageal dynamic changes. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 201 RGERD and 76 functional heartburn patients, undergone off-PPI endoscopy, esophageal manometry and impedance-pH monitoring, were included. Comparisons of conventional and novel impedance-pH metrics were made among different esophageal dynamics groups. Receiver operating-characteristic analyses were utilized to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of PSPWI and MNBI in differentiating abnormal esophageal dynamics. Correlations were used to investigate their associated factors. RESULTS: PSPWI and MNBI of RGERD with esophagogastric junction (EGJ) injury and esophageal dysmotility were lower than EGJ injury alone or normal dynamics (p < 0.05 for both comparisons). PSPWI with esophageal peristalsis abnormality was lower than EGJ injury (p = 0.049), while MNBI showed no statistical difference. PSPWI, MNBI and their combination have auxiliary diagnostic values for esophageal peristalsis [area under the curves (AUCs): 0.683, 0.656, 0.708)] while only their combination for EGJ injury (AUC: 0.610). And they positively correlated with esophageal motility while negatively correlated with ineffective swallows and acid reflux events. CONCLUSIONS: PSPWI and MNBI, indicating impairment of esophageal chemical clearance and mucosa integrity, were lower in RGERD patients with multiple esophageal dynamic injuries than single injuries or normal dynamics. Moreover, they provided useful contributing information for potential dynamic injuries if manometry has already been found normal or marginal.

RESUMO

The curvilinear mask structures provide significant benefits in improving lithographic resolution. Curvilinear masks, as opposed to rectilinear masks, have a wider range of structure types that can be used precisely to correct the contour of diffraction at sharp technological nodes. However, the curvilinear structure also makes the inverse design of mask in optical proximity correction (OPC) flow difficult. The current OPC of curvilinear masks uses pixel-based inverse optimization, which is extremely computationally intensive and takes up a lot of design data storage space. This paper proposes an implicit function to represent a large number of curve types with a small number of parameters to reduce computational complexity and the R&D cycle. Therefore, the ultra-high dimensional pixel-based OPC problem is transformed into a low-dimensional parameter search problem in the critical diffraction area of the mask pattern. The tabu search algorithm and neighborhood parallel computing strategy are then used to quickly search for optimal characterized parameters. The results of the simulation show that the parametric curvilinear OPC method achieves a higher image fidelity than that of rectilinear OPC. At the same time, it addresses the shortcomings of the traditional pixelated curvilinear mask OPC method, including high computational complexity, low manufacturability, and storage space occupancy.

RESUMO

Polarization measurement is generally performed in scenes with a low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) such as remote sensing and biological tissue detection. The spatially modulated polarimeter can satisfy the real-time measurement requirements in low SNR scenes by establishing the mapping between photon spatial distribution and polarization information. However, accurately measuring the polarization state under low-light illumination becomes highly challenging owing to the interference of background noise. In this paper, a deep learning method is proposed and applied to the high-accuracy reconstruction of polarization information at low light field. A reinforced two-layer deep convolutional neural network is designed to respectively extract global and local features of noise in this method. Accurate photon spatial distribution can be obtained by fusing and processing these features. Experimental results illustrate the excellent accuracy achieved by the proposed method with a maximum average value of the absolute measured error below 0.04. More importantly, the proposed method is well-performed for the reconstruction of Stokes vectors at low light fields of various levels without requiring changes to the model, enhancing its practicality and simplicity.

RESUMO

Mueller matrix imaging polarimeters (MMIPs) have been developed in the wavelength region of >400n m with great potential in many fields yet leaving a void of instrumentation and application in the ultraviolet (UV) region. For the first time to our knowledge, an UV-MMIP is developed for high resolution, sensitivity, and accuracy at the wavelength of 265 nm. A modified polarization state analyzer is designed and applied to suppress stray light for nice polarization images, and the errors of the measured Mueller matrices are calibrated to lower than 0.007 in pixel level. The finer performance of the UV-MMIP is demonstrated by the measurements of unstained cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) specimens. The contrasts of depolarization images obtained by the UV-MMIP are dramatically improved over those obtained by our previous VIS-MMIP at the wavelength of 650 nm. A distinct evolution of depolarization in normal cervical epithelium tissue, CIN-I, CIN-II, and CIN-III specimens can be observed by the UV-MMIP with mean depolarization promotion by up to 20 times. This evolution could provide important evidence for CIN staging but can hardly be distinguished by the VIS-MMIP. The results prove that the UV-MMIP could be an effective tool in polarimetric applications with higher sensitivity.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To establish a cutoff level of AMH which could help for the diagnosis of PCOS, to investigate the predictive value of AMH combined with androgens in Chinese women to diagnose PCOS. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a prospective case control study, 550 women recruited (aged 20-40 years), in which 450 PCOS women recruited according to the Rotterdam criteria and 100 non-PCOS women in the control group were from the women for the pregnancy preparation examination. AMH were measured by the Elecsys AMH Plus immunoassay. Androgens and other sex hormone were measured. The validity of AMH toward the diagnosis of PCOS, or AMH combined with total testosterone, free testosterone, bioavailable testosterone and androstenedione was estimated by receiver operating characteristic (ROC)curves, and correlations between paired variables was estimated by Spearman's rank correlation coefficient. RESULTS: The cutoff value of AMH in Chinese reproductive-age women with PCOS is 4.64 ng/mL, AUC under the curve is 0.938, with 81.6% sensitivity, and 92.0% specificity. Total testosterone, free testosterone, bioactive testosterone, and androstenedione are significantly higher in women with PCOS of reproductive age than in controls. The combination of AMH and free testosterone resulted in a higher AUC of 94.8%, with higher sensitivity (86.1%) and excellent specificity (90.3%) for the prediction of PCOS. CONCLUSION: The Elecsys AMH Plus immunoassay, with a cutoff of 4.64 ng/mL, is a robust method for identifying PCOM to aid in PCOS diagnosis. The combination of AMH and free testosterone resulted in a higher AUC of 94.8% for the diagnose of PCOS.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Endometrial carcinoma (EC) is one of the most common tumors in the female reproductive system. There are nearly 200 000 new cases every year. It is the third most common gynecological malignant tumor leading to female death. The incidence rate is closely related to lifestyle, and the incidence rate varies in different regions. The incidence rate of EC is ranking the first in the female reproductive system cancer just second only to breast, lung, and colorectal cancer in North America and Europe and the incidence rate of EC is only second, followed by breast cancer and cervical cancer in China. PURPOSE: The potential metabolic markers of endometrial cancer were screened by liquid chromatograph mass spectrometer (LC-MS), and the tissues of patients with hysteromyoma and endometrial cancer were sequenced to explore the relationship between the disease and change in the content of long-chain noncoding RNA (lncRNA). METHODS: Serum and tissue samples were collected from patients with endometrial dysplasia, endometrial cancer stage I, and endometrial cancer stage III. The metabolites in all serum samples were extracted, and the metabolites in all samples were detected by LC-MS/MS technology. The Pareto-scaling method was used for normalization, and the MetaboAnalyst 4.0 software was used for different analyses. The T test between groups showed that p ≤ 0.05 was regarded as the metabolite with a difference. Further, the function of differential metabolites was determined by metabolite function enrichment and co-expression analysis. Meanwhile, the differentially expressed lncRNA was detected by Illumina second-generation high-throughput sequencing technology, and the expression was analyzed by DEGseq software. Different lncRNA were screened according to p < 0.05. LncRNA with significant differences were screened by p < 0.01, q < 0.001, fold change ≥2, and false discovery rate (FDR) ≤0.001. RESULTS: Through synthesis of T test, cluster heatmap, and ROC curve analysis, five biomarkers with potential diagnostic ability were obtained, including 2,3-Pyridinedicarboxylic acid (area under the curve (AUC) = 0.69), Hematommic acid, ethyl ester (AUC = 0.69), Maltitol (AUC = 0.69), 13(S)-HODE (AUC = 0.88), and D-Mannitol (AUC = 0.69) had potential diagnostic ability between EC phase I versus EC phase III. At the same time, lncRNA sequencing results showed that when endometrial atypical hyperplasia continued to change, including LINC00511, PVT1, and IQCH-AS1 (downregulated), and only changed significantly in the endometrial dysplasia group, including MALAT1, CARMN (downregulated) and LINC00648, BISPR, LINC01534, and LINC00930 (upregulated). Moreover, both differential metabolites and differential lncRNA were annotated to the lipid metabolism pathway, suggesting that this pathway played an important role in the occurrence and development of endometrial carcinoma. CONCLUSIONS: It can combine the results of metabolomics and lncRNA sequencing to assist in the early diagnosis of endometrial precancerous lesions and endometrial cancer patients, to enhance the sensitivity and specificity of diagnosis, which has a certain clinical application prospect.

RESUMO

Spotted seals (Phoca largha) are a critically endangered pinniped in China. Artificial rescue of newborn pups is a conventional method to enhance their survival and maintain the population. However, little is known about the variations in the physiological state of spotted seal pups following artificial rescue. Here, an integrated proteomics and metabolomics study was performed on spotted seal pups by using whole blood samples to characterize the molecular response to artificial rescue. The proteome was characterized as having 1165 proteins that were predominantly associated with the metabolic pathways, and the complement and coagulation cascades. Remarkable variation was found in spotted seal pup blood following artificial rescue, whereby the levels of 193 proteins and 32 metabolites significantly varied in some metabolic pathways, including glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchor biosynthesis, focal adhesion, cardiac muscle contraction, and fatty acid beta-oxidation. After rescue, spotted seal pups had a higher risk to mild hemolytic disorder due to the energy metabolism in the red blood cells was possibly suppressed. Moreover, spotted seal pups after rescue could have stronger anaerobic exercise abilities, while their capacity for long-term high-intensity exercise was weaker.
