RESUMO

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a major pathogen in immunocompromised population and CMV infections in immunocompromised patients cause substantial morbidity and mortality. The common clinical manifestations of CMV infection are pneumonia, hepatitis, colitis and so on, while CMV peritonitis without gut perforation is rare. Reviewing the literature, CMV peritonitis in patients with nephrotic syndrome (NS) had not been reported. Only four cases of CMV peritonitis without gut perforation were reported in adults with other diseases. Two cases were diagnosed by reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) of ascites while the other two cases by histopathological examination of peritoneal tissue. We report four cases of primary nephrotic syndrome complicated with CMV peritonitis. Four cases all diagnosed by RT-PCR of ascites (659-455 000 copies/mL). We mainly discusses the diagnosis and treatment of CMV peritonitis without gut perforation.

RESUMO

The capability to track, detect, and identify human targets in highly cluttered scenes under extreme conditions, such as in complete darkness or on the battlefield, has been one of the primary tactical advantages in military operations. In this paper, we propose a new collaborative, multi-spectrum sensing method to achieve face detection and registration under low-light and unconstrained conditions. We design and prototype a novel type of hybrid sensor by combining a pair of near-infrared (NIR) cameras and a thermal camera (a long-wave infrared camera). We strategically surround each NIR sensor with a ring of LED IR flashes to capture the "red-eye," or more precisely, the "bright-eye" effect of the target. The "bright-eyes" are used to localize the 3D position of eyes and face. The recovered 3D information is further used to warp the thermal face imagery to a frontal-parallel pose so that additional tasks, such as face recognition, can be reliably conducted, especially with the assistance of accurate eye locations. Experiments on real face images are provided to demonstrate the merit of our method.

RESUMO

This paper presents a theoretical framework for the business decision-making process of the power generators as price takers when considering the participation of energy storage. The framework assesses rational valuation, optimal sales strategies, and hedging options for power plants with and without a gross sales constraint. The valuation and optimal sales strategy problems are analyzed using a risk-neutral pricing approach, dynamic programming principles, and the trinomial tree model suitable for the regime switching model. The formulation of a price risk hedging scheme flexible and widely used over-the-counter electricity derivative, the electricity contract for difference, as a tool for hedging electricity spot price risk. The minimum variance hedge ratio and its corresponding hedging efficiency formula are derived. In the section of numerical simulations, we first use the EM algorithm to calibrate the electricity spot model based on electricity spot price data of Nord Pool. Numerical simulations are then conducted on the operational decision-making of power generators under three different forms of energy storage. The results of the simulations provide a basis for power generators to evaluate the real-time value of power plants, to select optimal real-time power sales, and to determine the optimal timing of power plant transfer and storage methods.

RESUMO

Tungsten trioxide (WO3) has been recognized as the most promising photocatalyst for highly selective oxidation of methane (CH4) to formaldehyde (HCHO), but the origin of catalytic activity and the reaction manner remain controversial. Here, we take {001} and {110} facets dominated WO3 as the model photocatalysts. Distinctly, {001} facet can readily achieve 100% selectivity of HCHO via the active site mechanism whereas {110} facet hardly guarantees a high selectivity of HCHO along with many intermediate products via the radical way. In situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy, electron paramagnetic resonance and theoretical calculations confirm that the competitive chemical adsorption between CH4 and H2O and the different CH4 activation routes on WO3 surface are responsible for diverse CH4 oxidation pathways. The microscopic mechanism elucidation provides the guidance for designing high performance photocatalysts for selective CH4 oxidation.

RESUMO

Cell culturing on different synthetic biomaterials would reprogram cell metabolism for adaption to their living conditions because such alterations in cell metabolism were necessary for cellular functions on them. Here we used metabolomics to uncover metabolic changes when liver cells were cultured on insulin-like growth factor (IGF)/tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and chargeable polymers co-modified biomaterials with the aim to explain their modulating effects on cell metabolism. The results showed that cell metabolism on IGF-1/TNF-α co-immobilized conjugates was significantly regulated according to their scatterings on the score plot of principal component analysis. Specifically, cell metabolisms were reprogrammed to the higher level of pyrimidine metabolism, ß-alanine metabolism, and pantothenate and CoA biosynthesis, and the lower level of methionine salvage pathway in order to promote cell growth on IGF/TNF-α co-modified surface. Furthermore, cell senescence on PSt-PAAm-IGF/TNF-α surface was delayed through the regulation of branch amino acid metabolism and AMPK signal pathway. The research showed that metabolomics had great potential to uncover the molecular interaction between biomaterials and seeded cells, and provide the insights about cell metabolic reprogramming on IGF/TNF-α co-modified conjugates for cell growth.

RESUMO

Light fields (LFs) have been shown to enable photorealistic visualization of complex scenes. In practice, however, an LF tends to have a relatively small angular range or spatial resolution, which limits the scope of virtual navigation. In this paper, we show how seamless virtual navigation can be enhanced by stitching multiple LFs. Our technique consists of two key components: LF registration and LF stitching. To register LFs, we use what we call the ray-space motion matrix (RSMM) to establish pairwise ray-ray correspondences. Using Plücker coordinates, we show that the RSMM is a 5 ×6 matrix, which reduces to a 5 ×5 matrix under pure translation and/or in-plane rotation. The final LF stitching is done using multi-resolution, high-dimensional graph-cut in order to account for possible scene motion, imperfect RSMM estimation, and/or undersampling. We show how our technique allows us to create LFs with various enhanced features: extended horizontal and/or vertical field-of-view, larger synthetic aperture and defocus blur, and larger parallax.
