RESUMO
BACKGROUND: Although past studies have found significant positive correlations of both pain severity and overall pain catastrophizing (PC) levels with depression in chronic pain samples, less is known about the extent to which specific PC dimensions (i.e., helplessness, magnification, rumination) explain links between pain severity and depression. AIM: This study assessed the relative importance of PC dimensions as mediators of relations between chronic pain severity and depression. DESIGN: A cross sectional study design was employed. METHOD: Mainland Chinese adults with chronic pain (n = 983) completed validated questionnaire measures of PC, depression, and chronic pain severity within a cross-sectional research design. RESULTS: Analyses indicated helplessness mediated the association between pain severity and depression while magnification partially mediated the association of helplessness with depression. Conversely, rumination did not make a significant contribution in the mediation model. CONCLUSIONS: The helplessness dimension of PC, in particular, may help to explain why people with more severe chronic pain are prone to co-occurring depression.

BACKGROUND: Due to the unique working environment and nature of work in emergency departments, nurses are prone to experiencing compassion fatigue (CF), leading to job burnout and attrition. As more Generation Z (Gen Z) nurses enter the emergency department with distinct personality traits compared to previous generations, studying their experiences with CF will inform future management strategies. METHODS: The qualitative phenomenological research method was utilised to investigate CF among Gen Z emergency nurses at a hospital in Shanghai, China. Data were collected through face-to-face semi-structured interviews and analyzed using Colaizzi's seven-step phenomenological analysis method. Study participants were purposively selected. RESULTS: Three main themes and nine sub-themes emerged from the study: secondary traumatic stress, including physiological symptoms, psychological symptoms, and behavioral changes; cumulative effects, including impaired empathy, interference with family life, and post-traumatic growth (PTG); coping strategies, including cognitive reconstruction, seeking support, and facilitating action. CONCLUSIONS: The aim of this study is to investigate the experience of CF among Gen Z emergency nurses, providing managers with a reference for future management strategies. The significance of multi-dimensional support for Gen Z emergency nurses is underscored by our findings. Additionally, interventions that enhance resilience and competency can facilitate their psychological transformation after experiencing CF and promote accelerated personal growth.
RESUMO
BACKGROUND: The period of standardized training is a transitional stage when Generation Z newly graduated registered nurses (Gen Z NGRNs) change their role from student to nurse. Affected by the COVID-19, they lack clinical practice and practicum experience in emergency departments in their university studies. At the beginning of career, they are under great pressure. Resilience is one of the factors that reduce their stress level and increases endurance. It is of interest to understand how this representative group of nurses gained and played the experience of resilience early in their careers. OBJECTIVE: To explore Gen Z NGRNs' experience and process of resilience, to provide a new perspective and theoretical basis for psychological rehabilitation or intervention of medical staff who experienced transition shock. METHODS: This study employed a qualitative design based on the phenomenological approach. 18 nurses from a third-level class-A hospital in Shanghai who participated in standardized training in emergency department were enrolled using purposive sampling. Data collection was through in-depth and semi-structured interviews and continued until reaching data saturation. RESULTS: The investigation uncovered three themes and ten subthemes. Pressure and challenge contained high workload and high risk coexist, death's stress response, more emergencies and high professional requirements. Coping and adaptation contained team help, psychological restructuring, peer support, transformational leadership. Reflection and planning contained enhance learning, appreciate life. CONCLUSIONS: Our study described the embodiment and coping experience of the physical and mental stress faced by Gen Z NGRNs during their standardized training in the emergency department. It is emphasized that nurse educators should pay attention to the character and actual needs of Gen Z NGRNs, explore and formulate strategies, so as to guide NGRNs to quickly adapt and grow in the new role. The ultimate goal is to increase nurse retention and improve the quality of nursing.
RESUMO
There are different views in the literature regarding how to interpret the observed spectral features of the ferrous-CO complexes in cytochrome P450 enzymes (P450s). In this work, we applied density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT (TDDFT) calculations at the B3LYP-D3BJ/def2-TZVP level with a CPCM correction to the ferrous-CO models of P450s as well as of proteins that contain a histidine-ligated heme. Our results support the notion derived from a previously reported iterative extended Hückel calculation that the involvement of the sulfur lone-pair orbital (S(nz)) of the axial cysteine ligand in the electronic excitations gives rise to a spectral anomaly. The Q and the shorter-wavelength Soret (B') peaks are primarily due to the electronic transitions from the a2u- and S(nz)-type molecular orbitals (MOs), generated via an orbital interaction of fragment orbitals, to the near-degenerate eg-type π* MOs, respectively. The transitions from the a1u-type MO to the eg-type MOs contribute most to the longer wavelength Soret (B) peaks. Both a2u- and S(nz)-type MOs contribute to the B peaks, but the contribution of the latter is greater. When the axial ligand is histidine, the Q and Soret peaks originate essentially from the excitations from the a2u- and a1u-type MOs to the eg-type MOs. The transitions from the b2u-type MOs to the eg-type MOs play the most significant role in the N peaks of such ferrous-CO complexes. Here, the b2u-type MOs have a large contribution from the imidazole π orbital.

Aegilops tauschii is the diploid progenitor of the D genome of hexaploid wheat (Triticum aestivum, genomes AABBDD) and an important genetic resource for wheat. The large size and highly repetitive nature of the Ae. tauschii genome has until now precluded the development of a reference-quality genome sequence. Here we use an array of advanced technologies, including ordered-clone genome sequencing, whole-genome shotgun sequencing, and BioNano optical genome mapping, to generate a reference-quality genome sequence for Ae. tauschii ssp. strangulata accession AL8/78, which is closely related to the wheat D genome. We show that compared to other sequenced plant genomes, including a much larger conifer genome, the Ae. tauschii genome contains unprecedented amounts of very similar repeated sequences. Our genome comparisons reveal that the Ae. tauschii genome has a greater number of dispersed duplicated genes than other sequenced genomes and its chromosomes have been structurally evolving an order of magnitude faster than those of other grass genomes. The decay of colinearity with other grass genomes correlates with recombination rates along chromosomes. We propose that the vast amounts of very similar repeated sequences cause frequent errors in recombination and lead to gene duplications and structural chromosome changes that drive fast genome evolution.

BACKGROUND: Water extraction (WE) is the classical extraction method for tamarind xyloglucan (XyG), but its low yield, high viscosity and poor dispersion in aqueous solution are not conducive to the industrial applications. To promote the industrial application of tamarind XyG, an ultrasonic-assisted extraction (UAE) method for extracting low-viscosity XyG from tamarind kernel powder was proposed. RESULTS: The yield of UAE-XyG was higher (502.33 ± 0.036 g kg-1 ) than that of WE-XyG (163.43 ± 0.085 g kg-1 ). UAE reduced the molecular weight, monosaccharide content and apparent viscosity of XyG. The hypoglycemic experiment in vitro showed that UAE-XyG had a stronger inhibitory effect on α-amylase activity than WE-XyG, but its glucose dialysis retardation index was lower. CONCLUSION: In sum, UAE is a type of extraction method that could effectively improve the yield of XyG and reduce its viscosity to expand its application without reducing its physiological activity. UAE exhibits an excellent potential in the extraction of XyG. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry.

Chemical reduction of pentacene (C22 H14 , 1) with Group 1 metals ranging from Li to Cs revealed that 1 readily undergoes a two-fold reduction to afford a doubly-reduced 12- anion in THF. With the help of 18-crown-6 ether used as a secondary coordinating agent, five π-complexes of 12- with different alkali metal counterions have been isolated and fully characterized. This series of complexes enables the first evaluation of alkali-metal ion binding patterns and structural changes of the 12- dianion based on the crystallographically confirmed examples. The difference in coordination of the smallest Li+ ion vs. heavier Group 1 congeners has been demonstrated. In addition, the use of benzo-15-crown-5 in the reaction of 1 with Na metal allowed the isolation of the unique solvent-separated ion product with a "naked" dianion, 12- . The detailed structural analyses of the series revealed the C-C bond alteration and core deformation of pentacene upon two-fold reduction and complexation. The negative charge localization at the central six-membered ring of 12- identified by theoretical calculations corroborates with the X-ray crystallographic results. Subsequent in-depth theoretical analysis provided a detailed description of changes in the electronic structure and aromaticity of pentacene upon reduction.
RESUMO
Although carbon monoxide (CO) has been known to bind to the ferrous heme in cytochrome P450 enzymes (P450s) since the earliest days of P450 research, details on the nature of the ferrous-CO bonding remain elusive. This study employed dispersion-corrected density functional theory (DFT) calculations and DFT-based theoretical analyses to investigate the complexes between CO and a thiolate- or imidazole-ligated heme that contains ferric or ferrous iron. Traditionally, the ferrous-CO bonding in heme systems has been interpreted qualitatively in terms of σ donation and π backdonation. Complementary occupied-virtual orbital pair (COVP) analysis yielded one orbital pair for σ donation and two for π backdonation together with the specific magnitude of their energetic contributions. The charge-transfer effect for these three orbital pairs has nearly the same energetic significance in the ferrous-CO complexes. Therefore, in total, the π-backdonation effect is much greater than the σ-donation effect. In contrast, the σ-donation effect is more significant in the ferric-CO complex because of the less efficient π backdonation. The nature of ferric-CO and ferrous-CO bonding was further scrutinized using the generalized Kohn-Sham energy decomposition analysis (GKS-EDA) scheme, whose results highlighted the significance of various effects in enhancing the Fe-CO bonding for the thiolate- and imidazole-ligated heme groups. In particular, the intrinsic repulsion effect plays a crucial role in promoting the preferential binding of CO toward the ferrous heme and in determining the geometry of the complexes.

Photoactive two-dimensional covalent organic frameworks (2D-COFs) have become promising heterogenous photocatalysts in visible-light-driven organic transformations. Herein, a visible-light-driven selective aerobic oxidation of various small organic molecules by using 2D-COFs as the photocatalyst was developed. In this protocol, due to the remarkable photocatalytic capability of hydrazone-based 2D-COF-1 on molecular oxygen activation, a wide range of amides, quinolones, heterocyclic compounds, and sulfoxides were obtained with high efficiency and excellent functional group tolerance under very mild reaction conditions. Furthermore, benefiting from the inherent advantage of heterogenous photocatalysis, prominent sustainability and easy photocatalyst recyclability, a drug molecule (modafinil) and an oxidized mustard gas simulant (2-chloroethyl ethyl sulfoxide) were selectively and easily obtained in scale-up reactions. Mechanistic investigations were conducted using radical quenching experiments and inâ situ ESR spectroscopy, all corroborating the proposed role of 2D-COF-1 in photocatalytic cycle.

The stepwise chemical reduction of a molecular warped nanographene (WNG) having a negatively curved π-surface and defined C80 H30 composition with Cs metal used as the reducing and complexing agent allowed the isolation of three different reduced states with one, two, and three electrons added to its π-conjugated system. This provided a unique series of nanosized carbanions with increasing negative charge for in-depth structural analysis of consequences of controlled electron charging of non-planar nanographenes, using X-ray crystallographic and computational tools. The 3D molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) maps identified the negative charge localization at the central part of the WNG surface where selective coordination of Cs+ ions is confirmed crystallographically. In-depth theoretical investigation revealed a complex response of the WNG to the stepwise electron acquisition. The extended and contorted π-surface of the WNG undergoes subtle swinging distortions that are accompanied by notable changes in the electronic structure and site-dependent aromaticity of the resulting carbanions.

A practical and scalable protocol for visible-light-accelerated arylation and alkylation of quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones with hydrazines is reported. In this protocol, a hydrazone-based two-dimensional covalent organic frameworks (2D-COF-1) was employed as the heterogeneous photocatalyst (PC). Due to its excellent photocatalytic properties, good chemical stability and heterogeneous nature, the present method exhibits high efficiency, good functional group tolerance, easy scalability and remarkable catalyst reusability. More importantly, it provides an alternative way that allows rapid access to various C3 arylated or alkylated quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones in a greener and sustainable manner.

One-electron reduction of corannulene, C20 H10 , with Li metal in diglyme resulted in crystallization of [{Li+ (diglyme)2 }4 (C20 H10 .- )2 (C20 H10 -C20 H10 )2- ] (1), as revealed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. This hybrid product contains two corannulene monoanion-radicals along with a dianionic dimer, crystallized with four Li+ ions wrapped by diglyme molecules. The dimeric (C20 H10 -C20 H10 )2- anion provides the first crystallographically confirmed example of spontaneous radical dimerization for C20 H10 .- . The C-C bond length between the two C20 H10 .- bowls of 1.588(5)â Å is consistent with the single σ-bond character of the linker. The trans-disposition of two bowls in the centrosymmetric (C20 H10 -C20 H10 )2- dimer is observed with the torsion angle around the central C-C bond of 180°. Comprehensive theoretical analysis of formation/decomposition processes of the dimeric dianion has been carried out in order to evaluate the nature of bonding and energetics of the C20 H10 .- coupling. It is found that such σ-bonded dimers are thermodynamically unstable due to large preparation energy and repulsive Pauli component of the bonding, but kinetically persistent due to a high energy barrier provided by the existing spin-crossing point.

Rapid, on-site detection of fentanyl is of critical importance, as it is an extremely potent synthetic opioid that is prone to abuse. Here we describe a wearable glove-based sensor that can detect fentanyl electrochemically on the fingertips towards decentralized testing for opioids. The glove-based sensor consists of flexible screen-printed carbon electrodes modified with a mixture of multiwalled carbon nanotubes and a room temperature ionic liquid, 4-(3-butyl-1-imidazolio)-1-butanesulfonate). The sensor shows direct oxidation of fentanyl in both liquid and powder forms with a detection limit of 10⯵M using square-wave voltammetry. The "Lab-on-a-Glove" sensors, combined with a portable electrochemical analyzer, provide wireless transmission of the measured data to a smartphone or tablet for further analysis. The integrated sampling and sensing methodology on the thumb and index fingers, respectively, enables rapid screening of fentanyl in the presence of a mixture of cutting agents and offers considerable promise for timely point-of-need screening for first responders. Such a glove-based "swipe, scan, sense, and alert" strategy brings chemical analytics directly to the user's fingertips and opens new possibilities for detecting substances of abuse in emergency situations.
RESUMO
The first comprehensive and systematic theoretical exploration of the bonding nature and energetics of the interactions between Ag(I) cation and a wide set of π-ligands was accomplished. This set ranges from simple ethylene and aromatic benzene to planar and curved polyaromatic molecules and to closed-cage C60 -fullerene. Simultaneous application of two energy decomposition schemes based on different ideas, namely, NBO-NEDA and EDA-NOCV, allowed shedding light on the nature of the bonding and its energetics. Importantly, our results unambiguously indicate that reliable results can be obtained only if using more than one theoretical approach. All methods clearly revealed the importance and even domination of the ionic contribution of the bonding in all adducts, except for those of C60 -fullerene, in which the covalent component was found to be the largest. Subsequent decomposition of the orbital term onto components showed that it consists of two major parts: (i) ligand-to-metal (π(C=C)âs(Ag), LâM) and (ii) metal-to-ligand (MâL) terms, with significant domination of the former. Interestingly, while the LâM component is essentially the same for all systems considered, the nature of the MâL one depends on the coordination site of the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH). In most of adducts, the MâL can be described as dxy (Ag)âπ* (C=C) donation, whereas for systems [Ag-spoke-C12 H8 ]+ and [Ag-spoke-C20 H10 ]+ it corresponds to the dz2 (Ag)âπ* (C=C) type of interaction. As a result, the coordination mode in such complexes is switched from η2 -type to η1 . Thus, the nature of the bonding, its energetics and even coordination mode in adducts of unsaturated hydrocarbons with late transition metal cations should be considered as a function of many components, which primarily includes the topology and aromaticity of the (poly)aromatic molecules.
RESUMO
The wettability of porous media is of major interest in a broad range of natural and engineering applications. The wettability of a fluid on a solid surface is usually evaluated by the contact angle between them. While in situ local contact angle measurements are complicated by the topology of porous media, which can make it difficult to use traditional methods, recent advances in microfocused X-ray computed tomography (micro-CT) and image processing techniques have made it possible to measure contact angles on the scale of the pore sizes in such media. However, the effects of ionic strength, CO2 phase, and flow pattern (drainage or imbibition) on pore-scale contact angle distribution are still not clear and have not been reported in detail in previous studies. In this study, we employed a micro-CT scanner for in situ investigation of local contact angles in a CO2-brine-sand system under various conditions. The effects of ionic strength, CO2 phase, and flow pattern on the local contact-angle distribution were examined in detail. The results showed that the local contact angles vary over a wide range as a result of the interaction of surface contaminants, roughness, pore topology, and capillarity. The wettability of a porous surface could thus slowly weaken with increasing ionic strength, and the average contact angle could significantly increase when gaseous CO2 (gCO2) turns into supercritical CO2 (scCO2). Contact angle hysteresis also occurred between drainage and imbibition procedures, and the hysteresis was more significant under gCO2 condition.
RESUMO
BACKGROUND: China has the largest number of the elderly in the world. As the proportion of elderly is rapidly increasing among national reported HIV/AIDS cases, it is a concern about HIV epidemic among older MSM in China. However, studies on HIV prevalence and unprotected anal intercourse (UAI) among Chinese older MSM were relatively few or generally had small sample sizes. METHODS: English and Chinese articles published in peer-reviewed journals were identified by systematically searching 5 electronic databases including PubMed and through cross-referencing. Summary prevalence rates of HIV infection and UAI with male sexual partners were calculated, and analyses were performed using the software Comprehensive Meta-Analysis V2.0 and SPSS V17.0. Subgroup analyses were performed separately by sample size, study year, study location, recruitment settings and sampling method. RESULTS: Twenty eligible cross-sectional studies (3 in English and 17 in Chinese), published between 2005 and 2013, with a total of 2812 older MSM participants, were identified. Our meta-analyses showed that the prevalence of HIV, syphilis and UAI in the last 6 months were 11.6% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 8.0%-16.6%), 23.0% (95% CI: 15.8%-32.3%) and 79.5% (95% CI: 72.7%-84.9%), respectively. HIV prevalence increased over the study period (6.3% in 2003-2007; 8.6% in 2008-2009, and 11.5% in 2010-2011, trend test Chi-square = 7.02, p = 0.008). The pooled prevalence of HIV (11.6% vs. 5.2%, Chi-square value = 36.2, p < 0.001) and UAI (79.5% vs. 52.6%, Chi-square value = 440.04, p < 0.001) among older MSM were both significantly higher than among younger age group (age < 50 years). CONCLUSIONS: Older Chinese MSM have high prevalence of HIV and syphilis. Unprotected anal sex is common and further puts them at high risks of acquiring and transmitting HIV, which was one of reasons for the rapid increasing of national reported older male HIV/AIDS cases. Prevention intervention programs should be specially tailored for this high risk MSM subgroup.

Objective: The previous coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19) epidemic inflicted significant psychological trauma on emergency and critical care nurses due to various factors, potentially leading to job burnout. Despite the rise of positive psychology, little is known about the post-traumatic growth experience of these nurses after the pandemic. The aim of this study was to assess the experience of post-traumatic growth among emergency and critical care nurses, in order to provide managerial insights for developing effective strategies and facilitating the transformation of nurses' negative emotions into positive ones. Design: A qualitative review. Data sources: PubMed, EBSCO, Medline, Elsvier, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, Web of Science, Embase, and Ovid and Chinese databases include the following: Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang Database (CECDB), VIP Database and China Biomedical Database (CBM). Review methods: All articles about emergency and critical care nurses' post-traumatic growth after the COVID-19 pandemic were included after searching and screening 13 databases. The meta-synthesis method was used to integrate and evaluate the included literature in qualitative research. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) was used as a basis for reporting the review. The literature was selected and evaluated by two researchers, and then meta-integration was used for analysis. Results: From a total of 11 articles, 90 main results were presented, eight new categories were integrated, and three themes were formed: stress period, adjustment period and growth period. These three themes include eight sub-themes: negative emotion, psychological gap, self adjusting, social support, improvement of personal ability, increased sense of professional belonging, spiritual awakening and extended thinking, look ahead. Conclusion: Post-traumatic growth in emergency and critical care nurses is dynamic. Managers should monitor the psychological changes experienced by emergency and critical care nurses following traumatic events, offering targeted support at different stages, providing enhanced professional development opportunities, refining management strategies, guiding nurses in self-adjustment and active coping with trauma, and promoting their physical and mental well-being to ensure a positive mindset for effectively addressing future public health crises.

In this paper, in order to establish the energy separation mechanism of the vortex tube, the hydrodynamic behavior of the compressible fluid in the asymmetric cavity space is investigated, and a numerical model of the trajectory deflection behavior is deduced and established; in order to form the optimal design method of the structural parameters of the vortex tube, the force situation of the fluid microelements entering different regions of the vortex chamber of the vortex tube is analyzed, and the trajectory deflection equations are corrected by combining with the expansion behavior of the fluid and the characterizing equations of vortex strength, transportability, and vortex initiation characteristics are given. The characterization equations of vortex strength, transportability and vortex initiation characteristics are given, and the numerical simulation of their influence parameters is carried out; in order to realize the prediction of the vortex tube performance of a given structure, the multifactor Pearson thermodynamic map is used to correlate and analyze the experimental data of vortex tubes reported publicly in the past years, and the polynomial regression equations are designed and established for the prediction of the vortex tube's energy separation effect and the confidence level and the degree of coincidence of the prediction results are examined. The confidence level and degree of agreement of the prediction results were examined. It is found that: the trajectory deflection motion of the compressible fluid in the asymmetric cavity space is the result of the combined effect of structural air pressure bias and the expansion behavior of the incident fluid; in order to improve the vortex strength in the vortex tube, the vortex initiation chamber space should be as small as possible; the increase of the diameters of the hot-end pipe and the cold-end pipe is conducive to the enhancement of vortex strength, but at the same time, it weakens the vortex transport in the heat pipe; the vortex initiation chamber size has a negative correlation with the hot-end temperature rise, and the inlet fluid pressure has a The negative correlation between the size of the vortex chamber and the temperature rise at the hot end, the positive correlation between the increase of inlet fluid pressure and the resulting temperature rise, and the strong correlation between the inlet fluid pressure and the friction coefficient on the effect of energy separation; the predictive equations for the effect of energy separation obtained by the fitting are in good agreement with the real situation.
