RESUMO

Manganese oxide-based aqueous zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs) are attractive energy storage devices, owing to their good safety, low cost, and ecofriendly features. However, various critical issues, including poor conductivity, sluggish reaction kinetics, and unstable structure still restrict their further development. Oxygen defect engineering is an effective strategy to improve the electrochemical performance of manganese oxides, but challenging in the accurate regulation of oxygen defects. In this work, an effective and controllable defect engineering strategy-controllable electrochemical lithium-ion intercalation - is proposed to tackle this issue. The incorporation of lithium ions and oxygen defects can promote the conductivity, lattice spacing, and structural stability of Mn2O3 (MO), thus improving its capacity (232.7 mAh g-1), rate performance, and long-term cycling stability (99.0% capacity retention after 3000 cycles). Interestingly, the optimal ratio of intercalated lithium-ion varies at different temperature or mass-loading of MO, which provides the possibility to customize diverse ZIBs to meet different application conditions. In addition, the fabricated ZIBs present good flexibility, superior safety, and admirable adaptability under extreme temperatures (-20-100 °C). This work provides an inspiration on the structural customization of metal oxide nanomaterials for diverse ZIBs, and sheds light on the construction of future portable electronics.

RESUMO

What we believe to be a novel low-cost broadband continuous-wave water vapor differential absorption lidar (CW-DIAL) technique has been proposed and implemented by combing the Scheimpflug principle and the differential absorption method. The broadband CW-DIAL technique utilizes an 830-nm high-power multimode laser diode with 3-W output power as a tunable light source and a CMOS image sensor tilted at 45° as the detector. A retrieval algorithm dedicated for the broadband CW-DIAL technique has been developed to obtain range-resolved water vapor concentration from the DIAL signal. Atmospheric remote sensing of water vapor has been carried out on a near-horizontal water vapor path to validate the performance of the broadband CW-DIAL system. The retrieved water vapor concentration showed a good consistency with those measured by an air quality monitoring station, with a correlation coefficient of 0.9669. The fitting error of the water vapor concentration is found to be less than 10%. Numerical simulation studies have revealed that the aerosol-induced error on the water vapor concentration is below 5% with a background water vapor concentration of 5 g/m3 for most atmospheric conditions. The experimental results have successfully demonstrated the feasibility of the present broadband CW-DIAL technique for range-resolved water vapor remote sensing.

RESUMO

We propose using physical-informed neural network (PINN) for power evolution prediction in bidirectional Raman amplified WDM systems with Rayleigh backscattering (RBS). Unlike models based on data-driven machine learning, PINN can be effectively trained without preparing a large amount of data in advance and can learn the potential rules of power evolution. Compared to previous applications of PINN in power prediction, our model considers bidirectional Raman pumping and RBS, which is more practical. We experimentally demonstrate power evolution prediction of 200 km bidirectional Raman amplified wavelength-division multiplexed (WDM) system with 47 channels and 8 pumps using PINN. The maximum prediction error of PINN compared to experimental results is only 0.38 dB, demonstrating great potential for application in power evolution prediction. The power evolution predicted by PINN shows good agreement with the results simulated by traditional numerical method, but its efficiency is more suitable for establishing models and calculating noise, providing convenience for subsequent power configuration optimization.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Hypercoagulability emerges as a central pathological feature and clinical complication in nephrotic syndrome. Increased platelet activation and aggregability are closely related to hypercoagulability in nephrotic syndrome. Monocyte-platelet aggregates (MPAs) have been proposed to represent a robust biomarker of platelet activation. The aim of this study was to investigate levels of the circulating MPAs and MPAs with the different monocyte subsets to evaluate the association of MPAs with hypercoagulability in nephrotic syndrome. METHODS: Thirty-two patients with nephrotic syndrome were enrolled. In addition, thirty-two healthy age and sex matched adult volunteers served as healthy controls. MPAs were identified by CD14 monocytes positive for CD41a platelets. The classical (CD14 + + CD16-, CM), the intermediate (CD14 + + CD16+, IM) and the non-classical (CD14 + CD16++, NCM) monocytes, as well as subset specific MPAs, were measured by flow cytometry. RESULTS: Patients with nephrotic syndrome showed a higher percentage of circulating MPAs as compared with healthy controls (p < 0.001). The percentages of MPAs with CM, IM, and NCM were higher than those of healthy controls (p = 0.012, p < 0.001 and p < 0.001, respectively). Circulating MPAs showed correlations with hypoalbuminemia (r=-0.85; p < 0.001), hypercholesterolemia (r = 0.54; p < 0.001), fibrinogen (r = 0.70; p < 0.001) and D-dimer (r = 0.37; p = 0.003), but not with hypertriglyceridemia in nephrotic syndrome. The AUC for the prediction of hypercoagulability in nephrotic syndrome using MPAs was 0.79 (95% CI 0.68-0.90, p < 0.001). The sensitivity of MPAs in predicting hypercoagulability was 0.71, and the specificity was 0.78. CONCLUSION: Increased MPAs were correlated with hypercoagulability in nephrotic syndrome. MPAs may serve as a potential biomarker for thrombophilic or hypercoagulable state and provide novel insight into the mechanisms of anticoagulation in nephrotic syndrome.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The association between bone fracture and cardiovascular diseases is examined in this study. While basic research has established a connection between fractures and heart attacks through the linkage between bones and arteries, population studies have not provided clear evidence. The aim of the present study is to investigate the association between bone fracture and the occurrence of myocardial infarction in a natural population during long-term follow-up. METHODS: A total of 13,196 adult participants with bone fracture history at baseline from the China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS) prospective cohort were included in this study. Baseline investigation was performed in 1997-2009 and the outcome was followed up till 2015. Hazard ratios (HRs) and their corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated using Cox proportional hazards models. RESULTS: From 1997 to 2015, a total of 329 incident myocardial infarction cases were identified. In univariate and multivariate Cox regression analysis, a history of bone fracture was associated with an increased risk of myocardial infarction incidence in the total population (for the crude model: HR = 2.56, 95% CI 1.83-3.53, P < 0.001; for the multivariate model: HR = 1.43, 95% CI 1.02-1.99, P = 0.036). In the stratified analysis, bone fracture was not associated with an increased risk of incident myocardial infarction in subjects with age < 50 years (HR = 0.71, 95% CI 0.34-1.47, P = 0.356), but significantly associated with an increased risk of incident myocardial infarction in subjects with age ≥ 50 years (HR = 1.80, 95% CI 1.23-2.63, P = 0.003). CONCLUSIONS: It is suggested by the present study that bone fracture may be associated with an increased risk of incident myocardial infarction in the elderly population during long-term follow-up.

RESUMO

High-throughput sequencing technology, also known as next-generation sequencing technology, can explore new biomarkers and specific gene mutations. It has a pivotal role in promoting the gene research, which can limit the detection area, lessen the time needed for sequencing. Also, it can quickly screen out the suspected pathogenic genes of patients, gain the necessary genetic data, and provide the basis for clinical diagnosis and genetic counseling. In the research of corneal diseases, through the DNA sequencing of patients' diseased cells, it can provide a deeper understanding of corneal diseases and improve the diagnosis, classification and treatment alternatives of various corneal diseases. This article will introduce the application progress of high-throughput sequencing technology in corneal diseases, which will help to understand the application of this technology in various corneal diseases.

RESUMO

The continuing circulation and reassortment with low-pathogenicity avian influenza Gs/Gd (goose/Guangdong/1996)-like avian influenza viruses (AIVs) has caused huge economic losses and raised public health concerns over the zoonotic potential. Virologic surveillance of wild birds has been suggested as part of a global AIV surveillance system. However, underreporting and biased selection of sampling sites has rendered gaining information about the transmission and evolution of highly pathogenic AIV problematic. We explored the use of the Citizen Scientist eBird database to elucidate the dynamic distribution of wild birds in Taiwan and their potential for AIV exchange with domestic poultry. Through the 2-stage analytical framework, we associated nonignorable risk with 10 species of wild birds with >100 significant positive results. We generated a risk map, which served as the guide for highly pathogenic AIV surveillance. Our methodologic blueprint has the potential to be incorporated into the global AIV surveillance system of wild birds.

RESUMO

The molecular depolarization ratio (MDR) is of great significance for polarization lidar techniques in terms of validating the measurement accuracy, etc. However, previous studies mainly focused on cases with narrowband laser linewidths, and the transmittance of the Cabannes line in the receiver has been assumed constant. In this work, the narrowband theoretical model of MDR has been re-examined by taking the transmittance of the Cabannes line into account. A large relative deviation of beyond 200% has been found if the wavelength-shift reaches up to 0.5 nm for a receiving bandwidth of 0.5 nm at 532 nm, which is much larger than the case without considering the transmittance of the Cabannes line, i.e., only 15%, reported in previous studies. Besides, a broadband theoretical model has been proposed to evaluate the MDR for polarization lidar using high-power multimode laser diodes as light sources. Simulation studies have revealed that the MDR is highly related to the laser linewidth, the receiving bandwidth, as well as the wavelength-shift between the laser wavelength and the center wavelength of the receiver. The MDR at 520 nm calculated by the broadband theoretical model is about 21% larger than the value evaluated without considering the laser linewidth, when the receiving bandwidth is equivalent to the laser linewidth (e.g., 2 nm). Validation measurements, employing a 520-nm imaging-based polarization lidar with a 3.4-nm laser linewidth and a 10-nm receiving bandwidth, illustrated that the volume depolarization ratio in a clean atmospheric region (0.129±0.0025) was highly consistent with the theoretical MDR (0.132). The good agreement between theoretical and experimental results demonstrated a high measurement accuracy of the imaging-based polarization lidar and excellent feasibility of the broadband theoretical model.

RESUMO

The accelerating development of high-throughput plant phenotyping demands a LiDAR system to achieve spectral point cloud, which will significantly improve the accuracy and efficiency of segmentation based on its intrinsic fusion of spectral and spatial data. Meanwhile, a relatively longer detection range is required for platforms e.g., unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and poles. Towards the aims above, what we believe to be, a novel multispectral fluorescence LiDAR, featuring compact volume, light weight, and low cost, has been proposed and designed. A 405 nm laser diode was employed to excite the fluorescence of plants, and the point cloud attached with both the elastic and inelastic signal intensities that was obtained through the R-, G-, B-channels of a color image sensor. A new position retrieval method has been developed to evaluate far field echo signals, from which the spectral point cloud can be obtained. Experiments were designed to validate the spectral/spatial accuracy and the segmentation performance. It has been found out that the values obtained through the R-, G-, B-channels are consistent with the emission spectrum measured by a spectrometer, achieving a maximum R2 of 0.97. The theoretical spatial resolution can reach up to 47 mm and 0.7 mm in the x- and y-direction at a distance of around 30 m, respectively. The values of recall, precision, and F score for the segmentation of the fluorescence point cloud were all beyond 0.97. Besides, a field test has been carried out on plants at a distance of about 26 m, which further demonstrated that the multispectral fluorescence data can significantly facilitate the segmentation process in a complex scene. These promising results prove that the proposed multispectral fluorescence LiDAR has great potential in applications of digital forestry inventory and intelligent agriculture.

RESUMO

We report, what we believe to be, a novel miniaturized 3D-printed Y-type resonant photoacoustic cell (YRPAC) consisting of a frustum of cone-type buffer chamber and a cylindrical resonant chamber. The volume of the designed YRPAC is about 7.0 cm3, which is only about a half of the T-resonant photoacoustic cell (TRPAC). The finite element simulation of the sound field distribution of the TRPAC and YRPAC based on COMSOL shows that the photoacoustic signal is enhanced with the shape of the buffer chamber changing from the traditional cylinder to a frustum of cone. The photoacoustic spectroscopy (PAS) system, utilizing the YRPAC and TRPAC as the photoacoustic reaction units, a 1653.7 nm distributed feedback (DFB) laser as the excitation light source, a cantilever beam acoustic sensor as the acoustic sensing unit, and a high-speed spectrometer as the demodulation unit, has been successfully developed for high-sensitivity trace CH4 sensing. When the CH4 concentration is 1000 ppm, the 2f signal of YRPAC in the first-order resonance mode is 2.3 nm, which is 1.7 times higher than the 2f signal amplitude of TRPAC. The detection sensitivity and minimum detection limit for the PAS system are 2.29 pm/ppm and 52.8 parts per billion (ppb) at 100 s of averaging time. The reported YRPAC has higher sensitivity, smaller size, and faster response time compared to the conventional TRPAC, which can provide a new solution for PAS development.

RESUMO

Due to the cross phase modulation (XPM) effect, in long-haul high-speed dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) coherent systems, using a low-speed on-off-keying (OOK) format optical supervisory channel (OSC) will introduce extra nonlinear phase noise, which restricts the transmission distance. In this paper, we propose a simple OSC coding method to mitigate the OSC-induced nonlinear phase noise. According to the split-step solution of the Manakov equation, we up-convert the baseband of the OSC signal out of the pass-band of the walk-off term to reduce the spectrum density of XPM phase noise. Experimental results show that the optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR) budget on the 400 G channel of 1280-km transmission is improved by 0.96 dB, which achieves almost the same performance with the no OSC case.

RESUMO

We experimentally demonstrate a 214.7 Tbit/s generalized mutual information (GMI) estimated throughput by ultra-wideband wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) transmission in standard single-mode fiber (SSMF). With 50-GHz grid, 396 transmission channels are used to deliver 49 GBaud probabilistically constellation-shaped (PCS) 256 quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) and PCS-64QAM signals. Silicon photonic integrated transceiver is employed to complete electro-optic and optic-electro conversion of the modulated signals. S, C, and L-band rare-earth-doped amplifiers enable the 19.8 THz bandwidth WDM transmission without the assistance of distributed Raman amplification. The measured data rate shows great potential for Silicon photonic devices deployed in ultra-wideband WDM transmission.

RESUMO

With the increasing signal rates of a long-haul backbone dense-wavelength-division-multiplexing (DWDM) transmission system, e.g., from 100 Gb/s to 400 Gb/s and even to 800 Gb/s, optical path impairments simultaneously become more severe. Harmful factors being formerly insignificant become noticeable, e.g., nonlinear phase noise (NPN) on main DWDM channels induced by the cross-phase modulation (XPM) from the low-speed optical supervisory channel (OSC). Field trials show that a greater than 5.13-dB penalty can be observed on the shortest channel of 400G DP-16QAM-PCS over G.654.E links, which greatly degrades the overall transmission performance and limits the maximum reach. In this paper, we propose a dual-OSC structure with opposite signals to compensate for performance degradation caused by OSC-induced NPN. This method involves no extra digital signal processing (DSP), which is not only simple but also applicable for universal signal rates. By experimental demonstration, a 1.32-dB gain in Q (dB) for 200G DP-16QAM transmission over 1618-km G.652.D can be done, almost achieving the same performance as the no OSC case.

RESUMO

Neuroblastoma is the most common and deadliest tumor in infancy. WDR5 (WD Repeat Domain 5), a critical factor supporting an N-myc transcriptional complex via its WBM site and interacting with chromosome via its WIN site, promotes the progression of neuroblastoma, thus making it a potential anti-neuroblastoma drug target. So far, a few WIN site inhibitors have been reported, and the WBM site disruptors are rare to see. In this study we conducted virtual screening to identify candidate hit compounds targeting the WBM site of WDR5. As a result, 60 compounds were selected as candidate WBM site inhibitors. Cell proliferation assay demonstrated 6 structurally distinct WBM site inhibitors, numbering as compounds 4, 7, 11, 13, 19 and 22, which potently suppressed 3 neuroblastoma cell lines (MYCN-amplified IMR32 and LAN5 cell lines, and MYCN-unamplified SK-N-AS cell line). Among them, compound 19 suppressed the proliferation of IMR32 and LAN5 cells with EC50 values of 12.34 and 14.89 µM, respectively, and exerted a moderate inhibition on SK-N-AS cells, without affecting HEK293T cells at 20 µM. Analysis of high-resolution crystal complex structure of compound 19 against WDR5 revealed that it competitively occupied the hydrophobic pocket where V264 was located, which might disrupt the interaction of MYC with WDR5 and further MYC-medicated gene transcription. By performing RNA-seq analysis we demonstrated the differences in molecular action mechanisms of the compound 19 and a WIN site inhibitor OICR-9429. Most interestingly, we established the particularly high synergy rate by combining WBM site inhibitor 19 and the WIN site inhibitor OICR-9429, providing a novel therapeutic avenue for neuroblastoma.

RESUMO

The KRASG12C mutant has emerged as an important therapeutic target in recent years. Covalent inhibitors have shown promising antitumor activity against KRASG12C-mutant cancers in the clinic. In this study, a structure-based and focused chemical library analysis was performed, which led to the identification of 143D as a novel, highly potent and selective KRASG12C inhibitor. The antitumor efficacy of 143D in vitro and in vivo was comparable with that of AMG510 and of MRTX849, two well-characterized KRASG12C inhibitors. At low nanomolar concentrations, 143D showed biochemical and cellular potency for inhibiting the effects of the KRASG12C mutation. 143D selectively inhibited cell proliferation and induced G1-phase cell cycle arrest and apoptosis by downregulating KRASG12C-dependent signal transduction. Compared with MRTX849, 143D exhibited a longer half-life and higher maximum concentration (Cmax) and area under the curve (AUC) values in mouse models, as determined by tissue distribution assays. Additionally, 143D crossed the blood‒brain barrier. Treatment with 143D led to the sustained inhibition of KRAS signaling and tumor regression in KRASG12C-mutant tumors. Moreover, 143D combined with EGFR/MEK/ERK signaling inhibitors showed enhanced antitumor activity both in vitro and in vivo. Taken together, our findings indicate that 143D may be a promising drug candidate with favorable pharmaceutical properties for the treatment of cancers harboring the KRASG12C mutation.

RESUMO

Two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), a rising star in the post-graphene era, are fundamentally and technologically intriguing for photocatalysis. Their extraordinary electronic, optical, and chemical properties endow them as promising materials for effectively harvesting light and catalyzing the redox reaction in photocatalysis. Here, we present a tutorial-style review of the field of 2D TMDs for photocatalysis to educate researchers (especially the new-comers), which begins with a brief introduction of the fundamentals of 2D TMDs and photocatalysis along with the synthesis of this type of material, then look deeply into the merits of 2D TMDs as co-catalysts and active photocatalysts, followed by an overview of the challenges and corresponding strategies of 2D TMDs for photocatalysis, and finally look ahead this topic.

RESUMO

We propose an all-optical miniaturized multigas simultaneous detection photoacoustic (PA) sensor, which is primarily composed of a copper tube, a silica cantilever, and four single-mode fibers. Three single-mode fibers are used as excitation fibers to transmit lasers of different wavelengths, and the remaining one is used as a probe fiber. The volumes of the PA cell (PAC) and the sensor are 36 µL and 71 cubic millimeters, respectively. A laser photoacoustic spectroscopy (PAS) system, using the all-optical miniaturized PA sensor as a detector, 1532.8, 1576.3, and 1653.7 nm distributed feedback (DFB) lasers as the excitation sources for acetylene (C2H2), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), and methane (CH4) gases, and a high-speed spectrometer as a demodulator, has been developed for multigas simultaneous measurements. The minimum detection limits of 4.8, 162, and 16.6 parts per billion (ppb) have been achieved for C2H2, H2S, and CH4, respectively, with an integration time of 100 s. The reported sensor shows a potential for high-sensitivity multigas simultaneous measurements in cubic millimeter-scale space.

RESUMO

Understanding and characterization of the planetary boundary layer (PBL) are of great importance in terms of air pollution management, weather forecasting, modelling of climate change, etc. Although many lidar-based approaches have been proposed for the retrieval of the PBL height (PBLH) in case studies, development of a robust lidar-based algorithm without human intervention is still of great challenging. In this work, we have demonstrated a novel deep-learning method based on the wavelet covariance transform (WCT) for the PBLH evaluation from atmospheric lidar measurements. Lidar profiles are evaluated according to the WCT with a series of dilation values from 200 m to 505 m to generate 2-dimensional wavelet images. A large number of wavelet images and the corresponding PBLH-labelled images are created as the training set for a convolutional neural network (CNN), which is implemented based on a modified VGG16 (VGG - Visual Geometry Group) convolutional neural network. Wavelet images obtained from lidar profiles have also been prepared as the test set to investigate the performance of the CNN. The PBLH is finally retrieved by evaluating the predicted PBLH-labelled image and the wavelet coefficients. Comparison studies with radiosonde data and the Micro-Pulse-Lidar Network (MPLNET) PBLH product have successfully validated the promising performance of the deep-learning method for the PBLH retrieval in practical atmospheric sensing.

RESUMO

A visible, near-infrared (VIS-NIR) dual-polarization lidar technique employing laser diodes and polarization cameras has been designed and implemented for all-day unattended field measurements of atmospheric aerosols. The linear volume depolarization ratios (LVDR) and the offset angles can be retrieved from four-directional polarized backscattering signals at wavelengths of 458 nm and 808 nm without additional optical components and sophisticated system adjustments. Evaluations on the polarization crosstalk of the polarization camera and the offset angle have been performed in detail. A rotating linear polarizer (RLP) method based on the Stokes-Mueller formalism has been proposed and demonstrated for measuring extinction ratios of the polarization camera, which can be used to eliminate the polarization crosstalk between different polarization signals. The offset angles can be online measured with a precision of 0.1°, leading to negligible measurement errors on the LVDR. One-month statistical analysis revealed a small temporal variation of the offset angles, namely -0.13°±0.07° at 458 nm and 0.33°±0.09° at 808 nm, indicating good system stability for long-term measurement. Atmospheric measurements have been carried out to verify the system performance and investigate aerosol optical properties. The spectral characteristics of the aerosol extinction coefficient, the color ratio, the linear particle polarization ratio (LPDR) and the ratio of LPDR were retrieved and evaluated based on one-month continuous atmospheric measurements, from which different types of aerosols can be classified. The promising results showed great potential of employing the VIS-NIR dual-polarization lidar in characterizing aerosol optical properties, discriminating aerosol types and analyzing long-range aerosol transportation.

RESUMO

In this study, we aimed to investigate the effect of gap junction (GJ) on apoptosis of smooth muscle. Forty adult male guinea pigs were randomly divided into four groups with 10 guinea pigs in each group. Adeno-associated virus (AAV) and Gap27 were injected at the root of the corpus cavernosum. Two weeks later, the corpus cavernosum tissue was taken to be tested. The expression of Cx43 and α-SMC protein was detected by immunofluorescence and Western blotting. The content of corpus cavernosum smooth muscle was detected by Masson trichrome staining. Apoptosis was detected by TUNEL staining and Western blotting. The results showed that Gap27 did not affect Cx43 but decreased the expression of smooth muscle. The results of TUNEL staining and detection of apoptosis-related proteins showed that apoptosis was induced by Gap27. In addition, we found that corpus cavernosum injection of AAV could induce obvious apoptosis. In this study, we examined the effect of inhibition of gap junction on smooth muscle, and suggested that the decrease of gap junction function may be a potential mechanism of smooth muscle apoptosis.
