RESUMO

The exploitation of advanced electromagnetic functional devices is perceived as the effective prescription to deal with environmental contamination and energy deficiency. From the perspective of observing and imitating nature, pine branch-like zirconium dioxide/cobalt nanotubes@nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes are synthesized victoriously through maneuverable electrospinning process and follow-up thermal treatments. In particular, introducing carbon nanotubes on the surface of hollow nanofibers to construct hierarchical architecture vastly promoted the material's dielectric properties by significantly augmenting specific surface area, generating abundant heterogeneous interfaces, and inducing the formation of defects. Supplemented by the synergistic effect between each constituent, ultra-strong attenuation capacity and perfect impedance matching characteristics are implemented simultaneously, and jointly made contributions to the splendid microwave absorption performance with a minimum reflection loss of -67.9 dB at 1.5 mm. Moreover, this fibrous absorber also exhibited promising potential to be utilized as a green and efficient electromagnetic interference shielding material when the filler loading is enhanced. Therefore, this design philosophy is destined to inspire the future development of energy conversion and storage devices, and provide theoretical direction for the creation of sophisticated electromagnetic functional materials.

RESUMO

Identifying the parameters of multispan rigid frames is challenging because of their complex structures and large computational workloads. This paper presents a stiffness separation method for the static response parameter identification of multispan rigid frames. The stiffness separation method segments the global stiffness matrix of the overall structure into the stiffness matrices of its substructures, which are to be computed, thereby reducing the computational workload and improving the efficiency of parameter identification. Loads can be applied individually to each separate substructure, thereby guaranteeing obvious local static responses. The veracity and efficacy of the proposed methodology are substantiated by applying it to three- and eight-span continuous rigid frame structures. The findings indicate that the proposed approach significantly enhances the efficiency of parameter identification for multispan rigid frames.

RESUMO

Obstruction of the colon caused by a fecalith is not a rare condition, but endoscopic attempts at removal of the fecalith are often unsuccessful because of the size of the fecalith and its extremely hard stone-like consistency. We report a case of bowel obstruction of over two weeks' duration caused by a giant colonic fecalith. Conservative treatments including insertion of a gastric tube and enemas failed to resolve the obstruction. After an initial unsuccessful attempt at fecalith removal by colonoscopy using a snare, we successfully resolved the bowel obstruction over the course of subsequent colonoscopies with endoscopic fenestration of the fecalith and placement of a transrectal gastric tube for directed instillation of the enema fluid, and we were able to avoid surgical intervention in this case.

RESUMO

Methane (CH4), as the main component of natural gas and coal mine gas, is widely used in daily life and industrial processes and its leakage always causes undesirable misadventures. Thus, the rapid detection of low concentration methane is quite necessary. However, due to its robust chemical stability resulting from the strong tetrahedral-symmetry structure, the methane molecules are usually chemically inert to the sensing layers in detectors, making the rapid and efficient alert a big challenge. In this work, palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs) embedded indium oxide porous hollow tubes (In2O3 PHTs) were successfully synthesized using Pd@MIL-68 (In) MOFs as precursors. All In2O3-based samples derived from Pd@MIL-68 (In) MOFs inherited the morphology of the precursors and exhibited the feature of hexagonal hollow tubes with porous architecture. The gas-sensing performances to 5000 ppm CH4 were evaluated and it was found that Pd@In2O3-2 gave the best response (Ra/Rg = 23.2) at 370 °C, which was 15.5 times higher than that of pristine-In2O3 sensors. In addition, the sensing materials also showed superior selectivity against interfering gases and a rather short response/recovery time of 7 s/5 s. The enhancement in sensing performances of Pd@In2O3-2 could be attributed to the large surface area, rich porosity, abundant oxygen vacancies and the catalytic function of Pd NPs.

RESUMO

We aimed to investigate the impact of isolated static stretching (4 sets of 30 seconds) and its combined form with 10 repetitive drop jumps on lower limb performance during squat jumps at different knee joint starting angles (60°, 90°, and 120°). Thirteen participants completed three randomly ordered experimental visits, each including a standardized warm-up and squat jumps at three angles, apart from the intervention or control. Information was gathered through a three-dimensional movement tracking system, electromyography system, and force platform. The electromyography data underwent wavelet analysis to compute the energy values across the four wavelet frequency bands. The average power (Pavg), peak power (Ppeak), peak ground reaction force (GRFpeak), peak center of mass velocity (Vpeak), and force-velocity relationship at peak power (SFv) were extracted from the force and velocity-time data. The results revealed no significant influence of isolated static stretching, or its combined form with drop jumps, on the energy values across the frequency bands of the gastrocnemius, biceps femoris and rectus femoris, or the Pavg or Ppeak (P > 0.05). However, at 120°, static stretching reduced the GRFpeak (P = 0.001, d = 0.86) and SFv (P < 0.001, d = 1.12), and increased the Vpeak (P = 0.001, d = 0.5). The GRFpeak, Pavg, Ppeak, and SFv increased with an increase in the joint angle (P < 0.05), whereas the Vpeak decreased (P < 0.05). These findings suggest that static stretching does not diminish power output during squat jumps at the three angles; however, it alters GRFpeak, Vpeak, and the relative contributions of force and velocity to peak power at 120°, which can be eliminated by post-activation performance enhancement. Moreover, compared to 60° and 90°, 120° was more favorable for power and peak force output.

RESUMO

A series of structurally modified curcumol derivatives at C-8 position were designed and synthesized, whose structures were confirmed by 1H NMR,13C NMR, and HRMS analysis. The tested compounds were evaluated for in vitro antitumor activity against colorectal cancer cell lines SW620, HCT116, and CaCo2. Many of the tested candidates exhibited higher inhibition efficiency than curcumol. Among them, compound 3 l shows the best inhibitory effect on the viability of SW620 with IC50 value of 19.90 ± 0.64 µM. The structure-activity relationships of these derivatives were discussed, which showed that the introduction of amino or aryl groups tended to increase the anti-cancer activity. In addition, compound 3 l may inhibit cancer cell proliferation through triggering cell apoptosis.

RESUMO

A new series of C-14 curcumol derivatives as potent anticancer agents were designed and synthesized by click reaction, whose structures were confirmed by 1H NMR,13C NMR, and HRMS analysis. All the synthesized compounds were evaluated for in vitro antitumor activity against colorectal cancer cell lines SW620 and HCT116. Most of them exhibited higher inhibitory activity than curcumol. Especially, compound 3j shows good inhibitory activity against SW620 with IC50 value of 8.10 ± 0.13 µM. The structure-activity relationships (SARs) of these derivatives were discussed. In addition, flow cytometry revealed that compound 3j induced SW620 cells apoptosis by facilitating apoptosis-related proteins expressions. Our findings suggested that fluorine functional group on phenyl ring tended to increase the anticancer activity.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The change of immune cell infiltration essentially influences the process of colorectal cancer development. The infiltration of immune cells can be regulated by a variety of genes. Thus, modeling the immune microenvironment of colorectal cancer by analyzing the genes involved can be more conducive to the in-depth understanding of carcinogenesis and the progression thereof. METHODS: In this study, the number of stromal and immune cells in malignant tumor tissues were first estimated by using expression data (ESTIMATE) and cell-type identification with relative subsets of known RNA transcripts (CIBERSORT) to calculate the proportion of infiltrating immune cell and stromal components of colon cancer samples from the Cancer Genome Atlas database. Then the relationship between the TMN Classification and prognosis of malignant tumors was evaluated. RESULTS: By investigating differentially expressed genes using COX regression and protein-protein interaction network (PPI), the candidate hub gene serine protease inhibitor family E member 1 (SERPINE1) was found to be associated with immune cell infiltration. Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) further projected the potential pathways with elevated SERPINE1 expression to carcinogenesis and immunity. CIBERSORT was subsequently utilized to investigate the relationship between the expression differences of SERPINE1 and immune cell infiltration and to identify eight immune cells associated with SERPINE1 expression. CONCLUSION: We found that SERPINE1 plays a role in the remodeling of the colon cancer microenvironment and the infiltration of immune cells.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to identify factors that affect the prognosis of budesonide therapy for Crohn's disease patients. METHOD: Change in Crohn's disease activity index (CDAI) scores at latest follow-up after budesonide therapy reported by individual studies were pooled to gain overall effect size under random effects model and then metaregression analyses were performed to identify factors affecting the change in CDAI scores after budesonide treatment. RESULTS: Fifteen studies (1875 patients; age, 35.6 years [95% confidence interval (CI): 34.1, 37.0]; 41.66% [95% CI: 37.44, 45.88] males; 33.3% [95% CI: 24.3, 42.3] smokers; weight, 64.7 kg [95% CI: 62.71 66.6] and height, 168 cm [95% CI: 165, 171]) were included. Disease duration was 7.0 years [95% CI: 5.7, 8.2] and duration of the current episode was 3.1 months [95% CI: 1.7, 4.4]. Proportion of patients with prior resection was 42% [95% CI: 34%, 50%]. The disease was 21% in the ileum, 61% in ileocecum, and 18% in the colon. Budesonide dose was 8.83 mg/d [95% CI: 7.52, 10.14]. In a follow-up duration of 21.0 weeks [95% CI: 15.2, 26.8], budesonide treatment was associated with improvement in CDAI score of -117.8 [95% CI: -134.0, -102.0]. The magnitude of the change in CDAI score at the latest follow-up was significantly inversely associated with the percentage of smokers, but positively associated with the baseline CDAI score and duration of the current episode. CONCLUSION: Budesonide therapy to Crohn's disease patients appears to be more effective in patients with the more serious condition. Smoking may also affect the prognosis.

RESUMO

Colorectal cancer is a serious threat to human health, and has a high mortality rate. There is currently no effective therapy for end-stage colorectal cancer. In recent years, molecular targeted therapy has received increasing attention for cancer treatment. In particular, the role of Uba2, a vital component of SUMO-activating enzyme, has been highlighted, which plays important roles in the progression of certain cancers; however, its role in colorectal cancer remains unclear. Accordingly, the aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between Uba2 and colorectal cancer. Uba2 expression was knocked down in two colorectal cancer cell lines, and gene microarray analysis was conducted, followed by proliferation, migration, and invasion assays. Uba2 knockdown influenced the expression of several genes, and significantly inhibited the proliferation, migration, and invasion of cancer cells. To determine the underlying mechanism, the expression of related signaling pathways and molecules was evaluated in the knockdown cell lines. Overall, the results suggest that Uba2 participates in the progression, invasion, and metastasis of colorectal cancer, and the possible mechanism is via regulating the Wnt signaling pathway and enhancing epithelial-mesenchymal transition behaviors of colorectal cancer cells. Therefore, Uba2 is expected to be an important oncoprotein and potential therapeutic target in colorectal cancer.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Gene associated with retinoid-interferon induced mortality-19 (GRIM-19) plays crucial roles in carcinogenesis. OBJECTIVE: To explore the antitumor activity of internalizing NGR (iNGR) gene associated with GRIM-19 in colorectal cancer. METHODS: Cells were incubated with fluorescein isothiocyanate-labeled fusion proteins followed by fluorescence microscopic analysis. Cell proliferation was determined by MTT assay. Cell cycle was analyzed by flow cytometric analysis. Cell migration and invasion capacity were evaluated by wound scratch and Transwell assays, respectively. Apoptosis was measured by Annexin V/PI staining and TUNEL assay. Gene expressions were determined by RT-PCR and Western blotting. Nude mice bearing colorectal cancer received vehicle, GRIM-19, or iNGR-GRIM-19 fusion protein injection, and the in vivo antitumor capacity of the fusion proteins was examined. RESULTS: iNGR-GRIM-19 was specifically taken up by human colorectal cancer Colo205 cells, but not corneal epithelial (HCEpic) cells, whereas GRIM-19 was not internalized by either cell type. Unlike GRIM-19, incubation with iNGR-GRIM-19 dose-dependently inhibited proliferation, induced G1 phase arrest, suppressed cell migration and invasion, and caused apoptosis in Colo205 cells. Additionally, injection of iNGR-GRIM-19 extended the lifespan of colorectal cancer-bearing nude mice and reduced in vivo tumor growth as compared with vehicle or GRIM-19 treatment. iNGR-GRIM-19 was localized only in the tumor mass, without affecting other tissues, such as liver or kidney. iNGR-GRIM-19 injection led to G1 phase arrest and induced cell apoptosis in xenografted colorectal cancer tissues. CONCLUSIONS: iNGR-GRIM-19 has an efficient antitumor activity in vitro and in vivo, and might be a promising agent for the treatment of colorectal cancer.

RESUMO

In this Letter, a novel fabrication of large-area concave microlens array (MLA) on silicon is demonstrated by combination of high-speed laser scanning, which would result in single femtosecond laser pulse ablation on surface of silicon, and subsequent wet etching. Microscale concave microlenses with tunable dimensions and accessional aspherical profile are readily obtained on the 1 cm × 1 cm silicon film, which are useful as optical elements for infrared (IR) applications. The aperture diameter and height of the microlens were characterized and the results reveal that they are both proportional to the laser scanning speed. Moreover, the optical property of high-performance silicon MLAs as a reflective homogenizer was investigated for the visible wavelength, and it can be easily extended to IR light.

RESUMO

A rapid, sensitive and high-throughput liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry was established and validated to assay the concentrations of 3,29-dibenzoyl rarounitriol in rat plasma. Plasma samples were processed by liquid-liquid extraction with ethyl acetate and separated on a Hypersil Gold C18 column (50 × 4.6 mm, 3 µm) at an isocratic flow rate of 0.5 mL/min using methanol-10 mm ammonium acetate-formic acid (90:10:0.1, v/v/v) as mobile phase. The total run time was 5 min for each sample. MS/MS detection was accomplished in selected reaction monitoring mode with positive electrospray ionization. The calibration curve was linear over the concentration range of 0.125-50 ng/mL with lower limit of quantification of 0.125 ng/mL. The intra- and inter-day precisions were <10.1% in terms of coefficient of variation, and the accuracy was within ±11.7% in terms of relative error. The developed method was successfully applied to a pharmacokinetic study of 3,29-dibenzoyl rarounitriol following intragastric administration of 3.65 mg/kg to Wistar rats.

RESUMO

The poorly differentiated thyroid carcinoma (THCA) subtype is associated with an aggressive disease course, a less favorable overall prognosis, and an increased risk of distant organ metastasis. In this study, our objective was to explore the potential utility of the Sprouty-related EVH1 domain-containing protein 3 (SPRED3) as a biomarker for early diagnosis and prognosis in THCA patients. The differentially expressed prognostic-related genes associated with THCA were identified by querying The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. The difference in the expression of the SPRED3 gene between thyroid carcinoma (THCA) tissues and normal tissues was analyzed using data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and further validated through immunohistochemistry. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression models were used, along with clinical information from THCA patients, to analyze the prognostic value of the SPRED3 gene in THCA patients. Functional enrichment analysis was subsequently performed to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying the regulatory effects of the SPRED3 gene on thyroid carcinoma. Additionally, we calculated the percentage of infiltrating immune cells in THCA patients and evaluated their correlation with SPRED3 gene expression. Compared with those in noncancerous thyroid tissue, the gene and protein expression levels of SPRED3 were found to be elevated in thyroid carcinoma tissues. Furthermore, the expression of SPRED3 in thyroid carcinoma exhibited significant correlations with tumor location, histological grade, pathological stage, and tumor node metastasis classification (TNM) stage. Univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazards (Cox) regression analyses demonstrated that SPRED3 could serve as an independent prognostic factor for predicting the overall survival of THCA patients. The results of functional enrichment analysis suggested the potential involvement of SPRED3 in the regulation of extracellular matrix organization, epidermal development, signaling receptor activator activity, skin development, receptor ligand activity, glycosaminoglycan binding, neuroactive ligand‒receptor interaction, the IL-17 signaling pathway, and the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway. Additionally, there were significant correlations between the expression level of the SPRED3 gene and the infiltration of various immune cells (eosinophils, central memory T cells, neutrophils, macrophages, and NK cells) within the thyroid tumor microenvironment. SPRED3 can be used as a prognostic biomarker in patients with THCA could potentially be therapeutic target for THCA.

RESUMO

We report broadband amplification and highly efficient lasing in erbium-doped tellurite microstructured fibers. A broad positive net gain bandwidth of 113 nm (1524-1637 nm) is obtained in a 17 cm long erbium-doped tellurite microstructured fiber upon a pump power of 94 mW at 1480 nm. An all-fiber lasing at 1561 nm with maximum unsaturated power of 140 mW and slope efficiency of 53.7% is achieved from the fiber by employing a linear cavity. In addition, the influence of the fiber length on amplification and lasing is investigated and laser oscillation at 1535 nm is realized in a 4.3 cm long fiber.

RESUMO

We report the first demonstration of soliton self-frequency shift (SSFS) controlled by a weak continuous-wave (CW) laser, from a tellurite photonic crystal fiber pumped by a 1560 nm femtosecond fiber laser. The control of SSFS is performed by the cross-gain modulation of the 1560 nm femtosecond laser. By varying the input power of the weak CW laser (1560 nm) from 0 to 1.17 mW, the soliton generated in the tellurite photonic crystal fiber blue shifts from 1935 to 1591 nm. The dependence of the soliton wavelength on the operation wavelength of the weak CW laser is also measured. The results show the CW laser with a wavelength tunable range of 1530-1592 nm can be used to control the SSFS generation.

RESUMO

The creation of complex three-dimensional (3D) microcoils has attracted significant attention from both scientific and applied research communities. However, it still remains challenging to build 3D microcoils with arbitrary configurations using conventional planar lithographic fabrication methods. This Letter presents a new facile method based on an improved femtosecond laser wet etch technology and metal microsolidifying process for the fabrication of on-chip complex 3D microcoils inside fused silica. The diameter of the microcoils is about 30 µm, and the effective length of the microchannel is about 13 mm. The aspect ratio of the microcoils can be larger than 400:1, and the microchannel exhibiting good uniformity and smoothness also has good flowability for high-viscosity conductive gallium metal. Based on this approach, we fabricated complex microcoils such as U-shaped and O-shaped microcoils that can be easily integrated into a "lab on a chip" platform or microelectric system inside fused-silica substrate.

RESUMO

This paper presents a one-step method to fabricate superhydrophobic surfaces with extremely controllable adhesion based on PDMS microwell arrays. The microwell array structures are rapidly produced on PDMS films by a point-by-point femtosecond laser scanning process. The as-prepared superhydrophobic surfaces show water controllable adhesion that ranges from ultrahigh to ultralow by adjusting the extent of overlap of the adjacent microwells, on which the sliding angle can be controlled from 180° (a water droplet can not slide down even when the as-prepared surface is turned upside down) to 3°. A "micro-airbag effect" is introduced to explain the adhesion transition phenomenon of the microwell array structures. This work provides a facile and promising strategy to fabricate superhydrophobic surfaces with controllable adhesion.

RESUMO

The distinctions in pathological types and genetic subtypes of lung cancer have a direct impact on the choice of treatment choices and clinical prognosis in clinical practice. This study used pathological histological sections of surgically removed or biopsied tumor tissue from 36 patients. Based on a small sample size, millions of spectral data points were extracted to investigate the feasibility of employing intracellular fluorescent fingerprint information to diagnose the pathological types and mutational status of lung cancer. The intracellular fluorescent fingerprint information revealed the EGFR gene mutation characteristics in lung cancer, and the area under the curve (AUC) value for the optimal model was 0.98. For the classification of lung cancer pathological types, the macro average AUC value for the ensemble-learning model was 0.97. Our research contributes new idea for pathological diagnosis of lung cancer and offers a quick, easy, and accurate auxiliary diagnostic approach.

RESUMO

Constructed wetlands (CWs) have emerged as a promising environmentally sustainable technique for wastewater treatment. However, the susceptibility of CWs to disturbances caused by harmful algal blooms (HABs) raises concerns. This study aimed to investigate the impact of HABs on the pollutants' removal performance of CWs and the response of rhizosphere microbial community. Results revealed that CWs possessed an adaptive capacity that enabled them to recover caused by HABs. The rhizosphere was found to stimulate the occurrence of Acinetobacter, which played a critical role to help resist HABs disturbance. This study also observed an increased dissimilatory nitrate reduction metabolic pathway which promoted denitrification and enhanced the nitrogen removal efficiency of CWs. Additionally, the structural equation model further suggested that dissolved oxygen exerted a significant influence on the microbial activities and then affected the pollutants removal performance. Overall, our findings shed light on the mechanism for CW stability maintenance during HABs disturbance.
