The occurrence in Japan of the daylily thrips, Frankliniella hemerocallis, is confirmed. This thrips probably originated in Asia or Eurasia, because it is highly specific to Hemerocallis [Liliaceae] which is native to these areas. This thrips feeds on leaf, stem and petals rather than pollen. The second instar larva is described, and a key provided to the adults of Frankliniella species recorded from Japan.

Pandanothrips gen. n. is described, with three new species inhabiting Pandanus: P. ryukyuensis sp. n. from Japan, P. wangi sp. n. from Malaysia, and P. hallingi sp. n. from Australia. This new genus shows no relationship to Projectothrips Moulton, the only other Thripinae genus known to be associated with Pandanus. Pandanothrips is superficially similar to Danothrips Bhatti, a genus of leaf feeding thrips. The morphological relationships among these genera are discussed, and an illustrated key to the species of Pandanothrips is provided.

RESUMO
Thrips coxalis sp. n. and T. spiranthicola sp. n. are described from Lespedeza buergeri and Spiranthes sinensis, respectively in Japan. Variation is discussed in campaniform sensilla on metascutum and abdominal tergite IX, also the distribution of microtrichia on hind coxae within Thripidae, and a revised key to Japanese species of Thrips is provided.

Species of the Oriental subtropical and tropical genus Phylladothrips of fungus-feeding thrips exhibit some diagnostic character states, usually with abdominal tergite VIII bearing two pairs of wing-retaining setae and male tergite IX setae S2 about as long as S1. These species are quite small, and the maxillary stylets unusually broad for Phlaeothripinae. Phylladothripstrisetaesp. nov. from Xizang, China and P.selangorsp. nov. from Selangor, Malaysia are described, and P.fasciae is newly recorded from China. All 11 species in this genus are revised with an illustrated key.

Nazonothrips toshifumii gen. et sp. n. is described from unidentified fungus in Taiwan. This fungus-feeding species probably belongs to the tribe Plectrothripini of the subfamily Phlaeothripinae. The males of the new species exhibit a strange allometric growth that appears to involve two patterns of variation, but it is not possible to be certain due to the small number of available specimens.

For the Thysanoptera fauna of Japan, Masumoto (2016) listed 405 species in 138 genera and four families, Aeolothripidae, Merothripidae, Thripidae and Phlaeothripidae. However, the species total included several undescribed species, and subsequently further genera and species have been described or recorded. Moreover, recently the present authors have found, through the study of collections in the Laboratory of Entomology, Tokyo University of Agriculture, seven more species of six genera that had previously not been known from Japan.
