RESUMO

Visual speech plays a powerful role in facilitating auditory speech processing and has been a publicly noticed topic with the wide usage of face masks during the COVID-19 pandemic. In a previous magnetoencephalography study, we showed that occluding the mouth area significantly impairs neural speech tracking. To rule out the possibility that this deterioration is because of degraded sound quality, in the present follow-up study, we presented participants with audiovisual (AV) and audio-only (A) speech. We further independently manipulated the trials by adding a face mask and a distractor speaker. Our results clearly show that face masks only affect speech tracking in AV conditions, not in A conditions. This shows that face masks indeed primarily impact speech processing by blocking visual speech and not by acoustic degradation. We can further highlight how the spectrogram, lip movements and lexical units are tracked on a sensor level. We can show visual benefits for tracking the spectrogram especially in the multi-speaker condition. While lip movements only show additional improvement and visual benefit over tracking of the spectrogram in clear speech conditions, lexical units (phonemes and word onsets) do not show visual enhancement at all. We hypothesize that in young normal hearing individuals, information from visual input is less used for specific feature extraction, but acts more as a general resource for guiding attention.

Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is one of the most lethal gynecological cancers despite a relatively low incidence. Angiogenesis, one of the hallmarks of cancer, is essential for the pathogenesis of EOC, which is related to the induction of angiogenic factors. We found that ELF3 was highly expressed in EOCs under hypoxia and functioned as a transcription factor for IGF1. The ELF3-mediated increase in the secretion of IGF1 and VEGF promoted endothelial cell proliferation, migration, and EOC angiogenesis. Although this situation was much exaggerated under hypoxia, ELF3 silencing under hypoxia significantly attenuated angiogenic activity in endothelial cells by reducing the expression and secretion of IGF1 and VEGF. ELF3 silencing attenuated angiogenesis and tumorigenesis in ex vivo and xenograft mouse models. Consequently, ELF3 plays an important role in the induction of angiogenesis and tumorigenesis in EOC as a transcription factor of IGF1. A detailed understanding of the biological mechanism of ELF3 may both improve current antiangiogenic therapies and have anticancer effects for EOC.

Ochratoxin A (OTA), a mycotoxin found in foods, has a deleterious effect on female reproduction owing to its endocrine-disrupting activity mediated through endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. However, the mechanisms of OTA-induced ER stress in pig embryos during in vitro culture (IVC) are not yet fully understood. In the present study, porcine embryos were cultured for two days in an IVC medium supplemented with 0.5, 1.0, and 5.0 µM OTA, which led to an OTA-induced reduction in the developmental rate of blastocysts. The mRNA-seq transcriptome analysis revealed that the reduced blastocyst development ability of OTA-exposed porcine embryos was caused by ER stress, ultimately resulting in the accumulation of ROS and the occurrence of apoptosis. The expression levels of some UPR/PERK signaling-related genes (DDIT3, EIF2AK3, EIF2S1, NFE2L2, ATF4, EIF2A, and KEAP1) were found to differ in OTA-exposed pig embryos. OTA induces DNA damage by triggering an increase in RAD51/γ-H2AX levels and suppressing p-NRF2 activity. This effect is mediated through intracellular ROS and superoxide accumulation in the nuclei of porcine embryos. The cytotoxicity of OTA increased the activation of the PERK signal pathways (p-PERK, PERK, p-eIF2α, eIF2α, ATF4, and CHOP) in porcine embryos, with abnormal distribution of the ER observed around the nucleus. Collectively, our findings indicate that ER stress is a major cause of decline in the development of porcine embryos exposed to OTA. Therefore, OTA exposure induces ER stress and DNA damage via oxidative stress by disrupting PERK/NRF2 signaling activity in the developmental competence of porcine embryos during IVC.

The development and commercialization of digital therapeutics are increasing. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of digital technology interventions on cognitive function, thereby providing evidence for the development and practical application of interventions to manage cognitive function in patients with mild cognitive impairment and dementia. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials according to PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis) guidelines. Randomized controlled trials on digital technology interventions published until April 2023 were searched in PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) databases without a period limit. Articles that identified the effects of digital technology interventions on cognitive function improvement in dementia and mild cognitive impairment were integrated and analyzed. RevMan software 5.4 was used for quality assessment and meta-analysis. Twelve out of 708 studies were included in the review and meta-analysis. Digital technology interventions had significant effects on global cognitive function (standardized mean difference [SMD] = 0.31; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.04-0.57; p = 0.02; I² = 60%). In addition, these interventions had significant effects on neuropsychological characteristics, including attention (SMD = 1.17; 95% CI = 0.36-1.97; p = 0.004; I² = 84%), visuospatial perception (SMD = 0.68; 95% CI = 0.19-1.17; p = 0.006; I² = 57%), and memory (SMD = 0.45; 95% CI = 0.19-0.71; p = 0.0007; I² = 22%). The results suggest that digital technology interventions help improve cognitive function in patients with dementia and mild cognitive impairment.

Rapamycin induces autophagosome formation and activity during oocyte maturation, improved fertilization ability of matured oocytes, and early embryonic developmental competence. However, potential changes in mitochondrial fission and mitophagy via regulation of autophagy in early porcine embryonic development have not been previously studied. Here, we investigated embryonic developmental ability and quality of porcine embryos 2 days after in vitro fertilization and following treatment with 1 and 10 nM rapamycin. As a results, 1 nM rapamycin exposure significantly improved (p < 0.05) blastocyst developmental competence compared to that in nontreated embryos (nontreated: 26.2 ± 5.7% vs. 1 nM rapamycin: 35.3 ± 5.1%). We observed autophagic (LC3B) and mitochondrial fission protein expression (dynamin-related protein-1 [DRP1] and pDRP1-Ser616) at the cleavage stage of 1 and 10 nM rapamycin-treated porcine embryos, using Western blot and immunofluorescence analyses. Interestingly, 1 nM rapamycin treatment significantly improved autophagy formation, mitochondrial activation, and mitochondrial fission protein levels (p < 0.05; p-DRP1 [Ser616]) at the cleavage stage of porcine embryos. Additionally, mitophagy was significantly increased in blastocysts treated with 1 nM rapamycin. In conclusion, our results suggest that rapamycin promotes blastocyst development ability in porcine embryos through mitochondrial fission, activation, and mitophagy in in vitro culture.

BACKGROUND: Trastuzumab is the only approved target agent for the first-line treatment of human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (HER-2) positive gastric cancer; however, trastuzumab resistance is a major problem in clinical practice. To comprehend the mechanism of trastuzumab resistance, we focused on the Wnt/ß-catenin signaling pathway and its influence on the phenotypes and behavior of trastuzumab-resistant gastric cancer cells. METHODS: Trastuzumab-resistant NCI-N87R cells were established in vitro from the human gastric cancer cell line NCI-N87 by dose-escalating repeated trastuzumab treatment. We investigated the phenotypes of NCI-N87R cells, including Wnt signaling pathway activity. Gastric cancer organoid cells were incubated with complete medium and Wnt3a-depletion medium, and their resistance to trastuzumab was compared. RESULTS: NCI-N87R exhibited stemness and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT)-like phenotypes, along with decreased levels of the epithelial marker E-cadherin and increased levels of the mesenchymal markers Vimentin and Snail along with an increased Wnt signaling pathway activity. When gastric cancer cells were incubated in Wnt3a-conditioned medium. Wnt signaling pathway activity and resistance to trastuzumab increased. Gastric cancer patient-derived organoids incubated in Wnt3a-depletion medium were more susceptible to dose-dependent inhibition of cell viability by trastuzumab than those incubated in complete medium. CONCLUSIONS: Trastuzumab-resistant gastric cancer cells exhibited EMT-like phenotype, and trastuzumab resistance was promoted by the Wnt/ß-catenin signaling pathway. The Wnt/ß-catenin pathway is a key signaling pathway for trastuzumab resistance in gastric cancer cells.

The stereoselective total synthesis of dechlorotrichotoxin A, alongside the synthesis of a 1:1 10E/Z mixture of trichotoxin A, was successfully achieved, commencing from the natural monoterpenoid (-)-citronellal. Key steps in the synthesis involved introducing three alkenes and establishing a stereogenic secondary alcohol center. These transformations were accomplished through olefin cross-metathesis, Tebbe olefination, and enantioselective allylation using a chiral phosphoric acid. A comparison of the spectroscopic data between the synthetic dechlorotrichotoxin A and the reported spectra confirmed that the polyketide isolated from a Smenospongia species corresponds to trichotoxin A rather than dechlorotrichotoxin A.

BACKGROUND: Non-curative resection (non-CR) after endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) requires additional surgery due to the possibility of lymph node metastasis (LNM). Therefore, it is important to accurately predict the risk of non-CR to avoid unnecessary preoperative procedures. Thus, we aimed to develop and verify a nomogram to predict the risk of non-CR prior to ESD. METHODS: Patients who underwent ESD for early gastric cancer (EGC) were divided into CR and non-CR groups based on the present ESD criteria. The pre-procedural factors, such as endoscopic features, radiologic findings, and pathology of the lesion, were compared between the groups to identify the risk factors associated with non-CR. A nomogram was developed using multivariate analysis, and its predictive value was assessed using an external validation group. RESULTS: Among 824 patients, 682 were curative (82.7%) and 142 were non-curative (17.3%). By comparing two groups, endoscopic features including redness, whitish mucosal change, fold convergence, and large lesion size; histologic features such as moderately or poorly differentiated or signet ring cell carcinoma; and abnormal CT findings including non-specific lymph node enlargement and fold thickening were identified as significant predictors of non-CR. The nomogram was developed based on these predictors and showed good predictive performance in the external validation, with an area under the curve of 0.87. CONCLUSIONS: We developed a nomogram to predict the risk of non-CR prior to ESD. These predictive factors in addition to the existing ESD criteria can help provide the best treatment option for patients with EGC.

Various in vivo mutagenesis methods have been developed to facilitate fast and efficient continuous evolution of proteins in cells. However, they either modify the DNA region that does not match the target gene, or suffer from low mutation rates. Here, we report a mutator, eMutaT7 (enhanced MutaT7), with very fast in vivo mutation rate and high gene-specificity in Escherichia coli. eMutaT7, a cytidine deaminase fused to an orthogonal RNA polymerase, can introduce up to ∼4 mutations per 1 kb per day, rivalling the rate in typical in vitro mutagenesis for directed evolution of proteins, and promotes rapid continuous evolution of model proteins for antibiotic resistance and allosteric activation. eMutaT7 provides a very simple and tunable method for continuous directed evolution of proteins, and suggests that the fusion of new DNA-modifying enzymes to the orthogonal RNA polymerase is a promising strategy to explore the expanded sequence space without compromising gene specificity.

This study investigated the effect of the flavonoid-based compound isorhamnetin (ISO) on maturation and developmental competence in oxidative stress-exposed porcine oocytes in vitro. Treatment with 2 µM ISO (2 ISO) increases the developmental rate of oxidative stress-exposed porcine oocytes during in vitro maturation (IVM). The glutathione level and mRNA expression of antioxidant-related genes (NFE2L2 and SOD2) were increased in the 2 ISO-treated group, whereas the reactive oxygen species level was decreased. Treatment with 2 ISO increased mRNA expression of a cumulus cell expansion-related gene (SHAS2) and improved chromosomal alignment. mRNA expression of maternal genes (CCNB1, MOS, BMP15 and GDF9) and mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK) activity were increased in the 2 ISO-treated group. The total cell number per blastocyst and percentage of apoptotic cells were increased and decreased in the 2 ISO-treated group, respectively. Treatment with 2 ISO increased mRNA expression of development-related genes (SOX2, NANOG, and POU5F1) and anti-apoptotic genes (BCL2L1 and BIRC5) and decreased that of pro-apoptotic genes (CASP3 and FAS). These results demonstrate that 2 ISO improves the quality of porcine oocytes by protecting them against oxidative stress during IVM and enhances subsequent embryo development in vitro. Therefore, we propose that ISO is a useful supplement for IVM of porcine oocytes.

In flowering plants, double fertilization between male and female gametophytes, which are separated by distance, largely depends on the unique pattern of the male gametophyte (pollen): two non-motile sperm cells suspended within a tube-producing vegetative cell. A morphological screen to elucidate the genetic control governing the strategic patterning of pollen has led to the isolation of a sticky generative cell (sgc) mutant that dehisces abnormal pollen with the generative cell immobilized at the pollen wall. Analyses revealed that the sgc mutation is specifically detrimental to pollen development, causing ectopic callose deposition that impedes the timely internalization and differentiation of the generative cell. We found that the SGC gene encodes the highly conserved domain of unknown function 707 (DUF707) gene that is broadly expressed but is germline specific during pollen development. Additionally, transgenic plants co-expressing fluorescently fused SGC protein and known organelle markers showed that SGC localizes in the endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus and vacuoles in pollen. A yeast two-hybrid screen with an SGC bait identified a thaumatin-like protein that we named GCTLP1, some homologs of which bind and/or digest ß-1,3-glucans, the main constituent of callose. GCTLP1 is expressed in a germline-specific manner and colocalizes with SGC during pollen development, indicating that GCTLP1 is a putative SGC interactor. Collectively, our results show that SGC suppresses callose deposition in the nascent generative cell, thereby allowing the generative cell to fully internalize into the vegetative cell and correctly differentiate as the germline progenitor, with the potential involvement of the GCTLP1 protein, during pollen development in Arabidopsis.

BACKGROUND: Activin receptor-like kinase 1 (ALK1) is an endothelial transmembrane serine threonine kinase receptor for BMP family ligands that plays a critical role in cardiovascular development and pathology. Loss-of-function mutations in the ALK1 gene cause type 2 hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia, a devastating disorder that leads to arteriovenous malformations. Here, we show that ALK1 controls endothelial cell polarization against the direction of blood flow and flow-induced endothelial migration from veins through capillaries into arterioles. METHODS: Using Cre lines that recombine in different subsets of arterial, capillary-venous, or endothelial tip cells, we show that capillary-venous Alk1 deletion was sufficient to induce arteriovenous malformation formation in the postnatal retina. RESULTS: ALK1 deletion impaired capillary-venous endothelial cell polarization against the direction of blood flow in vivo and in vitro. Mechanistically, ALK1-deficient cells exhibited increased integrin signaling interaction with vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2, which enhanced downstream YAP/TAZ nuclear translocation. Pharmacologic inhibition of integrin or YAP/TAZ signaling rescued flow migration coupling and prevented vascular malformations in Alk1-deficient mice. CONCLUSIONS: Our study reveals ALK1 as an essential driver of flow-induced endothelial cell migration and identifies loss of flow-migration coupling as a driver of arteriovenous malformation formation in hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia disease. Integrin-YAP/TAZ signaling blockers are new potential targets to prevent vascular malformations in patients with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia.

Multisensory integration enables stimulus representation even when the sensory input in a single modality is weak. In the context of speech, when confronted with a degraded acoustic signal, congruent visual inputs promote comprehension. When this input is masked, speech comprehension consequently becomes more difficult. But it still remains inconclusive which levels of speech processing are affected under which circumstances by occluding the mouth area. To answer this question, we conducted an audiovisual (AV) multi-speaker experiment using naturalistic speech. In half of the trials, the target speaker wore a (surgical) face mask, while we measured the brain activity of normal hearing participants via magnetoencephalography (MEG). We additionally added a distractor speaker in half of the trials in order to create an ecologically difficult listening situation. A decoding model on the clear AV speech was trained and used to reconstruct crucial speech features in each condition. We found significant main effects of face masks on the reconstruction of acoustic features, such as the speech envelope and spectral speech features (i.e. pitch and formant frequencies), while reconstruction of higher level features of speech segmentation (phoneme and word onsets) were especially impaired through masks in difficult listening situations. As we used surgical face masks in our study, which only show mild effects on speech acoustics, we interpret our findings as the result of the missing visual input. Our findings extend previous behavioural results, by demonstrating the complex contextual effects of occluding relevant visual information on speech processing.

We report a synthetic methodology for decorating a surface of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with polymers through postsynthetic modification. Well-defined polymers with reversibly deactivated radical species at their chain end were reacted with vinyl-functionalized MOFs in the presence of a radical initiator. The radical addition forms a C-C bond between the polymer end with the functional group at the MOF ligand. We used sterically bulky star polymers containing electron-deficient maleimide chain ends, which facilitated modification of the external surface, yielding polymer-grafted MOF composite particles. A patchy MOF particle can also be obtained by simultaneously grafting two polymers and jammed at the immiscible liquid-liquid interface. We further show that the selective removal of a sacrificial polymer would partially expose the surface of MOFs to external environment, which hinders the uptake of macromolecular guests above the critical hydrodynamic size. Overall, four polymer@MOF composites have successfully been achieved through the present postsynthetic patchworks on MOFs with star polymers and selective etching process.

BACKGROUND: We aimed to investigate the association between the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and gastric carcinogenesis, including precancerous conditions such as dysplasia, atrophic gastritis, and intestinal metaplasia. METHODS: Patients who received an upper endoscopic assessment at a medical center were included. The enrolled patients were divided into four categories according to their TyG index quartile (Q). To evaluate the relationship between increase of TyG index and gastric cancer, we analyzed the patients who received a health checkup twice. Moreover, receiver-operating characteristic curve analysis was used to establish cut-off value of the TyG index for gastric cancer. RESULTS: Of 127,564 enrolled patients, 43,525 (34.1%) and 186 (0.1%) were diagnosed with precancerous conditions and gastric cancer, respectively. The odds ratios (ORs) of precancerous conditions given TyG index progressively increased across quartiles: using Q1 as the reference: Q2 (OR = 1.403, P < 0.001), Q3 (OR = 1.646, P < 0.001), and Q4 (OR = 1.656, P < 0.001). The ORs of gastric cancer also increased according to the quartiles: Q2 (OR = 1.619, P = 0.045), Q3 (OR = 2.180, P = 0.004), and Q4 (OR = 2.363, P = 0.001). Moreover, the increase in TyG index between baseline and follow-up tests was more significant in gastric cancer group than in control group (P = 0.001). The optimal cut-off value for predicting gastric cancer was 9.73. CONCLUSIONS: The TyG index may be a novel predictive biomarker for gastric carcinogenesis. Notably, increase in the TyG index is significantly associated with gastric cancer.

Our previous studies have already revealed that ß-cryptoxanthin (BCX), hesperetin (HES), and icariin (ICA) antioxidants are effective for in vitro maturation (IVM) of porcine oocytes. In this study, we investigated which of BCX, HES, or ICA was more effective for IVM of porcine oocytes. The antioxidant properties were assessed with aged porcine oocytes and embryos by comparing 2,2-diphenyl-1-(2,4,6-trinitrophenyl)hydrazyl (DPPH), reducing power, and H2O2 scavenging activity assays. The chemical assay results demonstrated that BCX had a greater DPPH scavenging activity and reducing power than HES and ICA, compared with controls. However, the H2O2 scavenging activity of the antioxidants was similar when tested at the optimal concentrations of 1 µM BCX (BCX-1), 100 µM HES (HES-100), and 5 µM ICA (ICA-5). The biological assay results showed that BCX-1 treatment was more effective in inducing a significant reduction in reactive oxygen species (ROS), improving glutathione levels, and increasing the expression of antioxidant genes. In addition, BCX-1 inhibited apoptosis by increasing the expression of anti-apoptotic genes and decreasing pro-apoptotic genes in porcine parthenogenetic blastocysts. BCX-1 also significantly increased the blastocyst formation rate compared with the ageing control group, HES-100 and ICA-5. This study demonstrates that damage from ROS produced during oocyte ageing can be prevented by supplementing antioxidants into the IVM medium, and BCX may be a potential candidate to improve assisted reproductive technologies.

Background and Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between handgrip strength (HGS) and quality of life (QOL) in patients diagnosed with osteoarthritis (OA) or rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Materials and Methods: We enrolled 13,966 from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2015 to 2018. All participants underwent the health-related QOL assessment using the European Quality of Life Scale-Five dimensions (EQ-5D) and measured the HGS. The weak HGS was defined as the lowest quartile. We investigated the difference in QOL between patients with arthritis and the healthy control group and evaluated the correlation between weak HGS and QOL in arthritis patients. Results: Those diagnosed with OA or RA had significantly lower QOL than healthy controls. The weak HGS was significantly correlated with lower QOL in arthritis patients. Among OA patients, those with weak HGS revealed significantly higher odds ratios for impairment in all dimensions of EQ-5D. RA patients with weak HGS had significantly higher odds ratios for impairment in dimensions of mobility, self-care, usual activity, and pain/discomfort than those with normal HGS. Conclusions: These results suggest that weak HGS is significantly associated with decreased QOL in patients with arthritis.

Sexual reproduction in flowering plants relies on the production of haploid gametophytes that consist of germline and supporting cells. During male gametophyte development, the asymmetric mitotic division of an undetermined unicellular microspore segregates these two cell lineages. To explore genetic regulation underlying this process, we screened for pollen cell patterning mutants and isolated the heterozygous myb81-1 mutant that sheds ~50% abnormal pollen. Typically, myb81-1 microspores fail to undergo pollen mitosis I (PMI) and arrest at polarized stage with a single central vacuole. Although most myb81-1 microspores degenerate without division, a small fraction divides at later stages and fails to acquire correct cell fates. The myb81-1 allele is transmitted normally through the female, but rarely through pollen. We show that myb81-1 phenotypes result from impaired function of the GAMYB transcription factor MYB81. The MYB81 promoter shows microspore-specific activity and a MYB81-RFP fusion protein is only expressed in a narrow window prior to PMI. Ectopic expression of MYB81 driven by various promoters can severely impair vegetative or reproductive development, reflecting the strict microspore-specific control of MYB81. Our data demonstrate that MYB81 has a key role in the developmental progression of microspores, enabling formation of the two male cell lineages that are essential for sexual reproduction in Arabidopsis.

This study investigated the effect of the antioxidant dieckol, a component of Ecklonia cava, on maturation and developmental competence of porcine oocytes exposed to oxidative stress in vitro. Oocytes were matured in in vitro maturation (IVM) medium containing various concentrations of dieckol. The blastocyst formation rate was highest in the 0.5 µM dieckol-treated (0.5 DEK) group. The reactive oxygen species level was decreased, and the level of glutathione and expression of antioxidant genes (NFE2L, SOD1, and SOD2) at metaphase II were increased in the 0.5 DEK group. Abnormal spindle organization and chromosome misalignment were prevented in the 0.5 DEK group. Expression of maternal markers (CCNB1 and MOS) and activity of p44/42 mitogen-activated protein kinase were increased in the 0.5 DEK group. After parthenogenetic activation, the total number of cells per blastocyst was increased and the percentage of apoptotic cells was decreased in the 0.5 DEK group. Expression of development-related genes (CX45, CDX2, POU5F1, and NANOG), antiapoptotic genes (BCL2L1 and BIRC5), and a proapoptotic gene (CASP3) were altered in the 0.5 DEK group. These results indicate that the antioxidant dieckol improves IVM and subsequent development of porcine oocytes and can be used to improve the quality of oocytes under peroxidation experimental conditions.

Integration of multimodal sensory information is fundamental to many aspects of human behavior, but the neural mechanisms underlying these processes remain mysterious. For example, during face-to-face communication, we know that the brain integrates dynamic auditory and visual inputs, but we do not yet understand where and how such integration mechanisms support speech comprehension. Here, we quantify representational interactions between dynamic audio and visual speech signals and show that different brain regions exhibit different types of representational interaction. With a novel information theoretic measure, we found that theta (3-7 Hz) oscillations in the posterior superior temporal gyrus/sulcus (pSTG/S) represent auditory and visual inputs redundantly (i.e., represent common features of the two), whereas the same oscillations in left motor and inferior temporal cortex represent the inputs synergistically (i.e., the instantaneous relationship between audio and visual inputs is also represented). Importantly, redundant coding in the left pSTG/S and synergistic coding in the left motor cortex predict behavior-i.e., speech comprehension performance. Our findings therefore demonstrate that processes classically described as integration can have different statistical properties and may reflect distinct mechanisms that occur in different brain regions to support audiovisual speech comprehension.
