RESUMO

Telehealth refers to the use of telecommunication devices and other forms of technology to provide services outside of the traditional in-person health care delivery system. Growth in the use of telehealth creates new challenges and opportunities for implementation in clinical practice. The American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPM&R) assembled an expert group to develop a white paper to examine telehealth innovation in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R). The resultant white paper summarizes how telehealth is best used in the field of PM&R while highlighting current knowledge deficits and technological limitations. The report identifies new and transformative opportunities for PM&R to advance translational research related to telehealth and enhance patient care.

RESUMO

While most studies of deterministic network growth have been of one- or two-case models, here a more diverse and comprehensive method of deterministic network evolution is presented. The range of observed behavior is classified and the underlying causes of the various types of growth are investigated. The potential for prediction of the different types of network growth is also examined. It is discovered that a wide variety of behavior can be produced by a simple evolutionary setup and that the networks resulting from this method of evolution warrant further study.

RESUMO

Population health management is an approach to improve the health outcomes of a specific group of people, such as frequent users of the emergency department or those at high-risk for hospital admissions. When combined with quality improvement strategies, the targeted application of health information exchange and health information technology (health IT) can swiftly move health care systems and providers from basic to advanced population health management. One such tool is an electronic alert system (alert system), which informs a provider or site about a patient's visit to the emergency department or hospital admission on a daily basis. This article highlights the use of such an alert system in 2 communities to help address gaps in population health management.

RESUMO

Embryonic cleavage depends on the distribution in the cytosol of molecular signals that influence mitotic spindle positioning. By implementing the New Kind of Science (NKS) theory in which a simple rule can evolve with a complex overall behavior, here we propose a new theoretical approach that is capable of modeling the mechanisms of early embryonic cleavage dynamics in the ascidian Styela Partita. The model shows that the same spindle pole orientation rule governs the first five embryonic cleavages, which progressively allow the transition from one to thirty-two daughter cells. Finally, we present evidence of a strong similarity between Kepler's Sphere Packing Problem and embryonic cleavage, which thus represents a prominent example of natural computing.
