RESUMO

PURPOSE: Prescriptive and predictive analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) provide tools to analyze data with objectivity. In this paper, we provide an overview of how these techniques can improve nursing care, and we detail a quantitative model to afford managerial insights about care management in a Hospital in Colombia. Our main purpose is to provide tools to improve key performance indicators for the care management of inpatients which includes the nurse workload. METHODS: The optimal nurse-to-patient assignment problem is addressed using analytics, lean health care, and AI. Also, we propose a new mathematical model to optimize the nurse-to-patient assignment decisions considering several variables about the patient state such as the Barthel index, their risks, the complexity of the care, and the mental state. FINDINGS: Our results show that there are several processes inherent to compassionate nursing care that can be improved using technology. By using data analytics, we can also provide insights about the high variability of the care requirements and, by using models, find nurse-to-patient assignments that are nearly perfectly balanced. CONCLUSIONS: We illustrated this improvement with a pilot test that makes the equitable distribution of nursing workload the functionality of this strategy. The findings can be useful in highly complex hospitals in Latin America. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: The proposed model presents an opportunity to make near perfectly balanced nurse-to-patient assignments according to the number of patients and their health conditions using technology.

OBJECTIVE: To develop a nursing practice model for the Clinic of the University of the La Sabana that supports the adaptive process of patients during and after their hospital experience. METHODOLOGY: This is a descriptive, methodological study implemented in different phases: (1) characterization of the context, (2) identification of the need for a nursing practice model for strengthening care, (3) literature review, (4) description of the model, and (5) validation. RESULTS: The context of a university hospital and international trends in the development of a professional nursing discipline require theoretical guidance for the ongoing improvement of the practice of nursing. The decision to apply Roy's conceptual model of adaptation clarifies the need for a complementary nursing practice model that brings this macro theory closer to the assistance reality. It is also necessary to make the vocation of service, knowledge and leadership of nursing visible whenever the human adaptive process is a priority. CONCLUSION: The University of La Sabana nursing practice model is a model focused on the commitment and humane treatment for the adaptation of patients during hospital care. It represents a consensus on the essentials of the nursing practice, which seek to support the adaptive process in order to have more comprehensive welfare and consequent improvement of the patient.

Precedents: The transfer between nursing shifts must guarantee the quality of care for patients and their families in the hospital. This study aimed to transform the handover between nursing shifts to strengthen the care capacity of patients and their family caregivers, and improve the care capacity of nursing staff, in a Latin American university hospital. Methods: This is a Nursing Methodology Research developed in the following phases: (a) identification of the best handover practices between nursing shifts to apply them within the institutional culture; (2) diagnosis of the transfer between shifts in the hospital; (3) design and validation of the transformation proposal; (4) measurement of transfer indicators; and (5) definition of a path to improve this transfer. Results: The proposal developed focuses on the patient and their family caregiver. The proposed protocol considered the perspective of the care recipients, the nursing staff, and the best available evidence. The overall transfer rating over 10 months went from 65% to 84%. Conclusions: The adjustment to the transfer process made it possible to strengthen the care capacity of patients and their family caregivers and improve the care capacity of the nursing staff.

Purpose: This work sought to describe the experience of managers and caregivers with feeding and nutrition for older adults with dementia, in Colombian gerontological services. Participants and Methods: This is a qualitative focus group study with fourteen gerontological care centers for people with dementia. Results: The study reveals that care related to food and nutrition for people with dementia is organized based on the comprehensive assessment of the resident. Although there are basic support strategies, each caregiver requires specific knowledge, attitudes, behaviors, and institutional support, to generate a context that favors the health and quality of life of those involved. Conclusion: The experience of caring for people with dementia in aspects related to their food and nutrition, seen from the perspective of managers and caregivers of gerontological services in a developing country, strengthens specific strategies and public policies. This, in turn, reduces the burden on caregivers.

BACKGROUND: Older people are at risk of malnutrition, especially when they suffer from cognitive impairment. Guidelines that orient nursing care in this regard need to be updated. The aim of this review is to address the best available evidence on interventions that can benefit nutritional nursing care for institutionalized older adults with dementia. METHODS: Integrative review using the Dimensions and Eureka search engines, and the PubMed, Embase, Scielo, CINAHL, and ScienceDirect databases. We searched from the year 2015 through to 2021. We employed the MMAT guidelines for mixed, qualitative, and quantitative studies, and the PRISMA, CASP, and JBI guidelines to value the reviews. RESULTS: A total of 55 studies met the inclusion criteria. The best available evidence to support nutritional nursing care for institutionalized older adults with dementia highlights several aspects related to the assessment and caring interventions that are focused on people with dementia, their caregivers, and their context. CONCLUSIONS: Both the assessment and nutritional care interventions for older people with dementia should consider the patient-caregiver dyad as the subject of care and understand the context as a fundamental part of it. The analysis of the context should look further than the immediate environment.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the effect of an anticipated care plan, structured around hospital discharge (PC-AH-US), regarding the caregiving load of people with NTCD residing in Colombia, 2019-2021. METHOD: This is a quasi-experimental study with pre- and post-intervention measurements. It includes 1170 participants who represented 585 chronic disease patient-caregiver pairs. We compared the PC-AH-US intervention, to the regular intervention. RESULTS: The PC-AH-US intervention group showed better results in all dimensions when compared to the regular intervention group: Awareness 8.7 (SD: 0.7) and 6.8 (SD: 1.7); Acknowledgement of their unique conditions 11.3 (SD: 1.0) and 9.4 (SD: 1.8); Capacity to fulfill care tasks 8.8 (SD: 0.7) and 7.5 (SD: 1.5); Wellbeing 11.4 (SD: 0.90) and 8.87 (SD: 2.3); Anticipation 5.88 (SD: 0.4) and 4.7 (SD: 1.1) and Support Network 11.4 (SD: 0.8) and 9.9 (SD: 2.5). CONCLUSION: The PC-AH-US intervention group showed a statistically significant decrease in the caregiving load for people with NTCD (p < 00). There were no significant institutional differences in readmissions or deaths. The PC-AH-US intervention backs institutional policies meant to care for people with NTCD.

PURPOSE: To measure the preliminary effectiveness of a strategy to promote healthy lifestyle habits in schoolchildren, aged 6 to 12 years, living in the Andean region of Colombia, 2018-2021. DESIGN AND METHODS: This is a Nursing Methodological Research, developed in phases: (1) Context and schoolchildren characterization; (2) Strategy design guided by the Whittemore and Grey criteria and the Bronfenbrenner ecological conceptual model; (3) Strategy validation with 11 experts; (4) Trial to evaluate preliminary effectiveness. We applied the strategy in seven different schools with the educational community including 955 schoolchildren between 6 and 12 years of age, 551 parents, 130 teachers and 7 members of the food staff. RESULTS: Our health promotion strategy "Prosalud" has five components: citizenship feeding and nutrition, physical activity, and rest; environment protection, and directing one's own life. It includes all the participants of the educational community. CONCLUSIONS: According to experts, the health promotion strategy "Prosalud" is valid to help promoting healthy lifestyle habits among schoolchildren. This strategy demonstrates its preliminary effectiveness in a group of school children from 6 to 12 years of age, their parents, teachers, and school food staff, in the Andean region of Colombia.

BACKGROUND: Nursing professional practice models allow the focus on care and qualification of hospital service by articulating the theory to the practice of nursing care with the final purpose of improving the patient's and family caregivers' quality of life. OBJECTIVE: To describe the model "Nursing care at the service of life," built and validated in a Colombian clinic, 2019. METHOD: A Nursing Methodology Research developed in four consecutive steps intended to identify the need to have a theoretical framework; to build it and validate it in a collective way that included the different members of the clinic nursing staff. RESULTS: The main concepts and articulated assumptions of the nursing practice model were described. The model will help the nursing staff to achieve the institutional mission. CONCLUSIONS: The professional practice Model "Nursing care at the service of life" reflects the nursing profession's charity, quality, and leadership, as a hospital care axis. The institution's nursing staff were able to identify themselves in the model's approach, also the expert criteria endorsed the construction process and content. The validation process done with the nurse's staff demonstrates that this model is accepted and useful to guide the nursing caring practices within the clinic.

OBJECTIVES: To describe the construction and validation process of a Model of professional practice of school nursing for Colombia. METHODS: Study under the approach of "methodological research in nursing" carried out by the Colombian network of school nursing, with the participation of 26 nurses from different institutions in a research developed in three stages: revision of antecedents, identification and prioritizing of assumptions to construct the model, and validation of the preliminary proposal with the participants and with a group of experts. RESULTS: The study presents the components that were part of the construction of the model of professional practice of school nursing for Colombia, which includes the four meta-paradigmatic elements of this professional discipline: the receptor of care, the context, nursing, and health, as well as the prioritized assumptions that indicate how these elements interact in achieving the student´s wellbeing and that of the education community. It includes the report from a focal validation group with the participants in which they summarize as education and health: a care bond, and the concept by experts on such. CONCLUSIONS: The Model of professional practice of school nursing for Colombia: education and health: a care bond, constructed in participative manner with nurses experts in the field and validated with theoretical experts complies with the international guides for the design of this type of theoretical construction and permits guiding the care goals of students, maintain the autonomy of the nurses and their interprofessional participation in this field.

OBJECTIVES: To describe the transformation of decisive moments that arise within the nurse-patient and family caregiver interaction to turn them into moments of care capable of favoring adaptation. METHODS: In a high complexity hospital in the city of Bogotá (Colombia), a "nursing methodological research"-type study was conducted. It was developed in five stages: 1) identification of the institutional route of patients and their caregivers and, within it, the moments of encounter with nursing; 2) typical day of the nurse; 3) analysis of the nurse-patient and family caregiver encounters; 4) literature review on how to strengthen the nurse-patient and family caregiver relationship; and 5) proposal to transform decisive moments into moments of care. RESULTS: Patients and their family caregivers usually experience six moments of encounter with nursing that include admission, assessment, satisfaction of basic needs, administration of medication, shift change, and discharge; all of them cross-cut by education and communication. Recognition of experiences during moments of encounter allowed transforming them into moments of nursing care. CONCLUSIONS: The transformation of decisive moments into moments of nursing care to favor adaptation of patients and their family caregivers is consequence of the nursing commitment and human nature expressed in every encounter of the care process.

Objetivo: Diseñar y validar indicadores de cuidado de enfermería a partir de la orientación de un modelo de práctica profesional en un hospital universitario de Colombia, 2018 ­ 2021. Material y Método: Este es un estudio cuantitativo bajo el abordaje de investigación denominado "Investigación metodológica en enfermería" desarrollado en cinco fases que incluyen: 1) revisión de los procesos de calidad institucional; 2) revisión de literatura sobre indicadores hospitalarios de enfermería; 3) Propuesta de indicadores con orientación del modelo institucional de práctica profesional de enfermería; 4) Validación de los indicadores mediante criterio de expertos; 5) Evaluación de la efectividad preliminar en campo durante 8 meses. Resultados: A partir de las tres primeras fases del estudio se plantean veintiún indicadores de cuidado de enfermería que responden al interés institucional y a la mejor evidencia disponible. Su validación refleja alta comprensibilidad y validez facial, una razón de validez de contenido (RVC) entre .74 y .96, y un índice de validez de contenido (IVC) de 0.83. Conclusión: Los indicadores de cuidado de enfermería diseñados bajo la orientación de un modelo de práctica profesional y validados mediante el criterio de expertos, mostraron una efectividad preliminar positiva para medir y mejorar los procesos y resultado del cuidado de enfermería de acuerdo con las personas implicadas en la recepción y suministro de dicho cuidado. Estos indicadores pueden ser empleados en hospitales con plataformas estratégicas similares

OBJECTIVE: The study evaluated the effectiveness of the "Caring for the caregivers" programme which was designed to strength family caregivers' ability to care for people suffering from chronic disease. METHODOLOGY: The study used a quasi-experimental design, having study and control groups, and measured caring ability before and after the intervention. 250 family caregivers were included in the study. RESULTS: The results included a description of the caregiver groups in terms of gender, age, family relationship, caring time and care receiver's dependence level. They also included initial and final levels regarding caring ability in each group, as well as comparing them to each other. Similarities were found in gender and responsibility for caring for younger people; differences were found in the service of origin, care-receiver functionality, accumulated experience and age. Caring ability was homogeneous in groups before the intervention but different in total level and patience following the programme. DISCUSSION: The findings agreed with the literature in terms of gender distribution, age, home assistance and caregivers' low levels of ability in terms of taking care of a family member suffering from chronic disease. The results suggested that the "Caring for the caregivers" programme has helped to increase caregivers' caring abilities and in doing so provided an option regarding the chronically ill which must be further explored within a Latin-American setting.

OBJECTIVE: To describe the approach of cost of illness within the theoretical models of chronic non communicable disease (NCD). METHODOLOGY: A systematic literature review was carried by defining observational parameters guided by the key words "theoretical, models" , "chronic disease" and "cost of illness" in 14 databases as Scielo, Medline, Science direct, Infotrac Health Reference Center Academic, including indexed publications of quantitative, qualitative, analysis and review articles, their publication language with an open time definition. RESULTS: 20 registered publications were found ranging from 2005 to 2012. Within these publications three groups emerged in the way they approach the burden or illness cost. They include: a group based on a caring paradigm, a group based on an economic paradigm understood as a set of the disease appear and their financial impact and a third group that with an eclectic approach that combined some of the economic aspects as well as some of the experiences of living and caring in situations of NCDs. CONCLUSIONS: The theoretical models of chronic disease evidenced by this systematic search indicates that the concept of cost of illness is grouped into three: the view from the approach of burden of care; the economic approach focused on the disease and its financial impact and the mixed approach that takes aspects of the previous two. Comparing these findings with the literature confirms the groups founded and suggested the need to make explicit the utilized paradigm within in the conceptualization of the cost of illness while approaching NCDs.


OBJETIVO: Describir el abordaje de carga que tienen los modelos teóricos sobre enfermedad crónica no trasmisible (ECNT). METODOLOGÍA: La búsqueda de los estudios se realizó definiendo la ventana de observación bajo criterios establecidos para los descriptores modelos teóricos, enfermedad crónica y costo de la enfermedad, en 14 bases de datos como Scielo, Medline, Science direct, Infotrac Health Reference Center Academic, teniendo en cuenta publicaciones arbitradas e incluyendo publicaciones cuantitativas, cualitativas y de revisión, tiempo e idioma de las publicaciones y tipo de estdio tal como se presentan a contiuación. RESULTADOS: Las 20 publicaciones registradas van desde el 2005 al 2012. Dentro de ellas aparecen tres grupos para el abordaje de la carga que incluyen el que se basa en un paradigma de cuidado, el que la entiende como un paradigma económico conjunto de la enfermedad y su impacto financiero y los paradigmas eclécticos que admiten la suma de miradas de algunos matices económicos junto con otros propios de la experiencia de vivir o cuidar en situaciones de ECNT. CONCLUSIONES: Los modelos teóricos sobre enfermedad crónica evidenciados indican que el concepto se agrupa en tres: la carga vista desde el abordaje del cuidado; el abordaje económico centrado en la enfermedad y su impacto financiero y el abordaje mixto que retoma parcialmente aspectos de los dos anteriores. La comparación de estos hallazgos con la literatura ratifica los grupos encontrados y sugiere la necesidad de hacer explícito el concepto de carga de la ECNT desde el paradigma empleado.

Objective To describe the caring ability of family caregivers of children with cancer. Method This is a descriptive, exploratory study with a quantitative approach. A sample of 85 family caregivers of children with cancer was taken. After a characterization, they respondd to the Caring Ability Inventory adapted for family caregivers of people with chronic non-communicable disease. Results The family caregivers werecharacterized by age, gender, socioeconomic level, education level, family relationship with the care receiver, social support, time of experience, and burden of care generated by the degree of the receiver's illness. The overall caring ability was described, as well as the ability of each dimension, including knowledge, courage, and patience. Conclusions The principal family caregivers of children with cancer were mainly the mothers of the children with cancer. 70.6 % of them do not possess sufficient ability to take care of their children with cancer. 31.8 % of the group had a lower ability level. This finding, together with the demands of coping with the fact of having a child with cancer, can be a great burden to family caregivers and generate risk for the ill children under their care.

Introducción: La coordinación adecuada para organizar la atención de enfermería a nivel hospitalario es decisiva frente al servicio que se ofrece a los sujetos de cuidado y al mejoramiento permanente de la institución. Objetivo: Describir qué dice la literatura mundial sobre cómo fortalecer el rol de coordinación de enfermería a nivel hospitalario. Materiales y Métodos: Búsqueda integradora de literatura bajo parámetros de Ganong, con publicaciones arbitradas, observación de seis años, sin límites geográficos, en idiomas inglés, español y portugués. Resultados: De acuerdo con la literatura surgen tres categorías que incluyen: características del rol de coordinador de enfermería; impacto de esta coordinación en los resultados frente al sujeto de cuidado; y estrategias para fortalecer el rol de coordinación dentro de la institución. La evidencia que respalda el desarrollo de la coordinación de enfermería en el hospital es débil, con una mayoría de estudios de tipo descriptivo. Discusión: La coordinación de enfermería debe articular la dirección y la operación en el hospital y para ello requiere conocer y acompañar la directriz institucional a mediano y largo plazo y manejar estrategias de motivación y acompañamiento para facilitar su logro. Conclusiones: En una institución hospitalaria, la enfermera coordinadora debe mantener el norte en medio de la cotidianeidad de la asistencia; acompañar y motivar al personal a su cargo mediante competencias de liderazgo, trabajo en equipo y conocimiento clínico e institucional. Requiere para el ejercicio de su rol, proyectar el cambio y mantener un pensamiento integrador.


Introduction: An effective coordination to manage nursing care at the hospital level is essential for the service offered to the subjects of care and for the constant improvement of the institution. Objective: To describe the international literature related to the strengthening of the role of nursing coordination at the hospital level. Materials and Methods: An integrated literature search was carried out under Ganong parameters with arbitrated publications and six-year observations without geographical limits in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. Results: Three categories were identified from the literature search, namely, characteristics of the nurse care coordination role, impact of this coordination on the results for the subject of care, and strategies to enhance the coordination role within the institution. The evidence supporting the development of nurse care coordination at hospitals is poor, most of which are descriptive studies. Discussion: Nurse care coordination must articulate hospital direction and operation, which requires knowing and supporting institutional guidelines over the medium and longer-term and developing motivation and support strategies to facilitate its achievement. Conclusions: The nurse care coordinator in a hospital must keep their focus on the daily care of patients as well as support and encourage their staff through leadership skills, teamwork, and clinical/institutional knowledge. To perform their role, the coordinator must promote change and maintain an integrated approach.


Introdução: A coordenação adequada para organizar a assistência de enfermagem em nível hospitalar é decisiva diante do serviço oferecido aos sujeitos da assistência e a melhoria permanente da instituição. Objetivo: Descrever o que a literatura mundial diz sobre como fortalecer o papel da coordenação de enfermagem no nível hospitalar. Materiais e Métodos: Pesquisa integrativa de literatura sob os parâmetros Ganong, com publicações arbitradas, observação de seis anos, sem limites geográficos, nos idiomas inglês, espanhol e português. Resultados: Segundo a literatura, existem três categorias que incluem: características do papel do coordenador de enfermagem; impacto dessa coordenação nos resultados contra o paciente; e estratégias para fortalecer o papel de coordenação dentro da instituição. As evidências que sustentam o desenvolvimento da coordenação de enfermagem no hospital são fracas, com a maioria dos estudos descritivos. Discussão: A coordenação de enfermagem deve articular a direção e a operação no hospital e, para isso, requer conhecer e acompanhar as diretrizes institucionais a médio e longo prazo e gerenciar estratégias motivacionais e de acompanhamento para facilitar sua realização. Conclusões: Em uma instituição hospitalar, o enfermeiro coordenador deve manter seu foco no meio da assistência diária; acompanhar e motivar a equipe responsável por meio de habilidades de liderança, trabalho em equipe e conhecimento clínico e institucional. Requer para o exercício de seu papel, projetar mudanças e manter um pensamento integrador.

OBJECTIVE: This work sought to develop, validate, and determine the reliability of an instrument on Competency in Homecare of the family caregiver of an individual with chronic disease. METHODOLOGY: The test validation study was carried out in the following phases: 1) literature review; 2) analysis of results of programs to help family caregivers in Latin America; 3) exploration of the classification of nursing results (NOC) related to the family caregiver and discharge; 4) proposal of an instrument of care competence; and 5) psychometric tests: apparent validity with 25 family caregivers of individuals with chronic disease and six experts in the area; construct validity and reliability through internal consistency with 311 family caregivers of chronic patients. RESULTS: The instrument on homecare competency of the family caregiver of an individual with chronic disease (CUIDAR, for the term in Spanish) has 60 items that inquire on six categories: knowledge, uniqueness, instrumentation, enjoyment of life, anticipation and relationships, and social interaction. The apparent validity evidences clarity, coherence, sufficiency, and relevance of the scale. With the factor analysis six components were obtained through the Varimax rotation in which most of the items are associated according to the categories proposed. The reliability (internal consistency) reported a Cronbach's alpha of 0.96. CONCLUSION: The Homecare Competency instrument permits assessing the capacity of a family caregiver to care for an individual with chronic disease, proving valid and reliable for the Colombian context.

Objective. To describe the construction and validation process of a Model of professional practice of school nursing for Colombia. Methods. Study under the approach of "methodological research in nursing" carried out by the Colombian network of school nursing, with the participation of 26 nurses from different institutions in a research developed in three stages: revision of antecedents, identification and prioritizing of assumptions to construct the model, and validation of the preliminary proposal with the participants and with a group of experts. Results. The study presents the components that were part of the construction of the model of professional practice of school nursing for Colombia, which includes the four meta-paradigmatic elements of this professional discipline: the receptor of care, the context, nursing, and health, as well as the prioritized assumptions that indicate how these elements interact in achieving the student´s wellbeing and that of the education community. It includes the report from a focal validation group with the participants in which they summarize as education and health: a care bond, and the concept by experts on such. Conclusion. The Model of professional practice of school nursing for Colombia: education and health: a care bond, constructed in participative manner with nurses experts in the field and validated with theoretical experts complies with the international guides for the design of this type of theoretical construction and permits guiding the care goals of students, maintain the autonomy of the nurses and their interprofessional participation in this field.


Objetivo. Describir el proceso de construcción y validación de un Modelo de práctica profesional de enfermería escolar para Colombia. Métodos. Estudio bajo el abordaje de "investigación metodológica en enfermería" realizado por la Red Colombiana de Enfermería Escolar. Participaron 26 enfermeras de diferentes instituciones en una investigación desarrollada en tres etapas: revisión de antecedentes, identificación y priorización de supuestos para la construcción del modelo, y validación de la propuesta preliminar con los participantes y con un grupo de expertos. Resultados. Se presentan los componentes que hicieron parte de la construcción del Modelo de práctica profesional de enfermería escolar para Colombia, que incluyen los cuatro elementos meta-paradigmáticos de esta disciplina profesional: el receptor del cuidado, el contexto, la enfermería y la salud, así como los supuestos priorizados, que indican la forma en que estos elementos interactúan en el logro del bienestar del escolar y de la comunidad educativa. Se incluye el reporte de un grupo focal de validación con los participantes en el que lo resumen como educación y salud un vínculo de cuidado, y el concepto de expertos sobre el mismo. Conclusión. El Modelo de práctica profesional de enfermería escolar para Colombia: educación y salud un vínculo de cuidado, construido de forma participativa con enfermeras expertas en el campo y validado también con expertos teóricos cumple con las guías internacionales para el diseño de este tipo de construcción teórica y permite orientar las metas del cuidado del escolar, mantener la autonomía de las enfermeras y su participación interprofesional en este campo

Estudo sob a abordagem de "investigação metodológica em enfermagem" realizado pela Rede Colombiana de Enfermagem Escolar. Participaram 26 enfermeiras de diferentes instituições em uma investigação desenvolvida em três etapas: revisão de antecedentes, identificação e priorização de supostos para a construção do modelo, e validação da proposta preliminar com os participantes e com um grupo de especialistas. Resultados. Se apresentam os componentes que fizeram parte da construção do Modelo de estágio profissional de enfermagem escolar para Colômbia, que incluíram os quatro elementos metaparadigmáticos desta disciplina profissional: o receptor do cuidado, o contexto, a enfermagem e a saúde, assim como os supostos priorizados, que indicam a forma em que estes elementos interagem na conquista do bem-estar do escolar e da comunidade educativa. Se inclui o relatório de um grupo focal de validação com os participantes no qual o resumo como educação e saúde um vínculo de cuidado, e o conceito de especialistas sobre o mesmo. Conclusão. Introducción. Conocer y atender debidamente las necesidades de un ser humano en medio de su vulnerabilidad continúa siendo un reto vigente. Objetivo. Describir la transformación de la "Atención a las necesidades básicas" en un momento de cuidado de enfermería para favorecer la adaptación del paciente y su cuidador familiar durante la hospitalización, en la Clínica Universidad de La Sabana, para el periodo 2018-2019. Método. Esta es una investigación metodológica en enfermería, realizada bajo lineamientos del Modelo de Enfermería Universidad de La Sabana, que incluyó cuatro fases. Resultados. Es preciso que la atención a las necesidades básicas sea respaldada en la mejor evidencia disponible, y con un trato humanizado. Hacer visible este proceso permitió medirlo y mejorarlo. Conclusiones. Para brindar un cuidado humano y seguro, no basta la buena intención, es necesario garantizar dos condiciones; por un lado, el compromiso requerido para soportarlo con la mejor evidencia disponible, aumentando la calidad del cuidado y la calidez o tono humano; y, por otro, el respeto y reconocimiento de la dignidad de las personas, favoreciendo el vínculo con ellas y su autonomía, lo que a su vez repercute positivamente en el desarrollo de la enfermería.


Introduction. Knowing and duly attending to the needs of a human being in the midst of his vulnerability, continues to be an ongoing challenge. Objective. Describe the transformation of "Attention to basic needs" in a moment of nursing care to favor the adaptation of the patient and their family caregiver during hospitalization, Universidad de La Sabana Clinic, 2018-2019. Method. This is a Nursing Methodology Research under the guidelines of the University of La Sabana Nursing Model that included four phases. Results. It is necessary that the attention to basic needs is supported by the best available evidence and in the human care. The description of this process helped the researchers to measure and improve it. Conclusions. To give humane and safe care, good intention is not enough, it is necessary to guarantee two conditions; the commitment required to support it in the best available evidence, improving the quality of care and the warmth or human tone; with respect and recognition of the dignity of people, favoring the bond with them, such as their autonomy, which in turn has a positive impact on the development of nursing.


Introdução. Conhecer e atender devidamente as necessidades de um ser humano em meio à sua vulnerabilidade continua a ser um desafio atual. Objetivo. Descrever a transformação da "Atenção às necessidades básicas" num momento de cuidado de enfermagem para favorecer a adaptação do paciente e seu familiar cuidador durante a internação, na Clínica Universidad de La Sabana, para o período 2018-2019. Método. Trata-se de uma pesquisa metodológica em enfermagem, efetivada segundo diretrizes do Modelo de Enfermagem Universidade de La Sabana, que incluiu quatro fases. Resultados. É preciso que a atenção às necessidades básicas este amparada nas melhores evidências disponíveis e com um trato humanizado. Fazer visível esse processo permitiu medi-lo e aprimorá-lo. Conclusões. Para prestar um cuidado humano e seguro não bastam boas intenções, é preciso garantir duas condições; de um lado, o compromisso necessário para sustê-lo com as melhores evidências disponíveis, aumentando a qualidade do cuidado e o calor ou tom humano; e, de outro, respeito e reconhecimento da dignidade das pessoas, favorecendo o vínculo com elas e sua autonomia, o que por sua vez tem impacto positivo no desenvolvimento da enfermagem.

Describir el proceso de transformación del ingreso hospitalario para convertirlo en un momento de cuidado de enfermería en el que se logra mejorar la adaptación de quienes son atendidos. Metodología: investigación metodológica en enfermería realizada en seis fases entre el 2017 y el 2018: diagnóstico de la experiencia de los pacientes y sus cuidadores familiares durante el ingreso a hospitalización; revisión de las buenas prácticas mundiales de ingreso hospitalario; definición de un protocolo de enfermería para orientar el ingreso hospitalario con base en la mejor evidencia disponible y pautas para establecer un vínculo de cuidado enfermera-paciente y cuidador familiar; diseño y ajuste de instrumentos y estrategias para apoyar la implementación del protocolo; afinamiento del protocolo y las herramientas de apoyo mediante revisión de expertos; y prueba piloto en el servicio durante nueve meses. Resultados: la transformación del ingreso hospitalario exige tanto la búsqueda de una evidencia que lo respalde, como los lineamientos de humanización plasmados en una guía práctica. La adherencia de enfermería a las guías se asoció con una mejor percepción del servicio por parte del paciente y su cuidador convirtiendo este procedimiento en un momento de cuidado. Conclusiones: la transformación del procedimiento de ingreso al servicio de hospitalización del paciente y su cuidador familiar para convertirlo en un momento de cuidado de enfermería mejora la experiencia de las personas implicadas y su percepción sobre el servicio que ofrece la institución.


This research seeks to describe the process of transforming hospital admissions into a moment of nursing care that improves the adaptation of patients and their caregivers. Methodology: This is a Nursing Methodology Research that was conducted between 2017 and 2018. The study included six phases: diagnosis of the experience of patients and their family caregivers during admission to hospitalization; review of the best hospital admission practices worldwide; definition of both, a nursing protocol to guide hospital admission based on the best available evidence, and guidelines to establish a caring relationship between the nurse, the patient, and the family caregiver; design and adjustment of instruments and strategies to support the implementation of the protocol; adjustment of the proposed protocol and supporting tools through expert review; and a pilot test in use for 9 months9 months. Results: The transformation of the hospital admission requires nurses to search for evidence and humanization strategies, embodied in a practical guide that supports the admission process. There is a direct connection between the adherence of nurses to the guidelines and a better perception from patients and caregivers of the received service. This implies the admission process may become a caring opportunity. Conclusions: The transformation of hospital admission process into a moment of nursing care for patients and family caregivers improves the experience of the people involved and their perception of the institutional service quality.

OBJECTIVE: To propose and validate a functional model that permits addressing, guiding, and qualifying nursing care in the Colombian National Cancer Institute. METHODOLOGY: Within the framework of the teaching-service work and as response to the priorities established by the National Cancer Institute, the need to have a model was determined to better understand the nursing work in the institution. For this purpose a study was conducted in three phases: 1) Analysis of the context, 2) Elaboration and analysis of the narratives of care, and 3) Development of the Functional Model of Nursing Care from the narratives. RESULTS: Based on the analysis of the context, we selected the theory of "Nursing as Caring" by Boykin and Schoenhofer and, as of such; a guide was developed and applied for the construction and analysis of the narratives of care. Lastly, through an analysis of the content of the narratives of care 143 nominal codes emerged along with eight central categories or concepts. The way these concepts are related in the content of the text gave way to the assumptions of the National Cancer Institute's model of nursing care whose dynamic was defined and diagramed for communication. Validation of the Model of Nursing Care ratified the positions expressed by the participants. CONCLUSION: Development of a sequential dynamics of contextual analysis, space and expression of a reflexive nursing practice and analysis of the contents of some narratives of nursing care product of such, permitted proposing and validating the National Cancer Institute's Model of Nursing Care that addresses, transmits, guides, and qualifies professional performance in the institution.
