RESUMO

BACKGROUND: To assess the safety and efficacy of long-term administration of guanfacine extended-release (GXR) in adults with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). METHODS: In this open-label, long-term, phase 3 extension study in Japan, 150 patients transitioned from a double-blind trial, and 41 newly enrolled patients received once daily GXR (starting dose 2 mg/day, maintenance dose 4-6 mg/day) for 50 weeks. Primary outcome measures were the frequency and nature of treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs); secondary outcome measures included the change from week 0 in ADHD Rating Scale IV with Adult Prompts (ADHD-RS-IV; Japanese version) total and subscale scores, Conners' Adult ADHD Rating Scales (CAARS), Clinical Global Impression-Improvement (CGI-I) and Patient Global Impression-Improvement (PGI-I) scales, and quality of life (QoL) and executive functioning measures. RESULTS: Of all patients, 94.2% (180/191) reported ≥1 TEAE and 19.9% (38/191) discontinued because of a TEAE. Most TEAEs were mild to moderate in severity; there were two serious TEAEs and no deaths. Commonly reported TEAEs (≥10% of patients) were somnolence, thirst, nasopharyngitis, decreased blood pressure, postural dizziness, bradycardia, malaise, constipation, and dizziness. Mean changes from week 0 in ADHD-RS-IV total and subscale scores and CAARS subscale scores were significantly improved in former placebo or GXR patients and new patients at last observation (p < .0001), and the percentage of patients with very much or much improved CGI-I and PGI-I scores increased. CONCLUSIONS: There were no major safety concerns during long-term GXR administration in adults with ADHD. After long-term treatment, patients had significant improvements from baseline in ADHD symptoms, QoL, and executive functioning. RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Asverin® (tipepidine hibenzate) has been used as an antitussive for > 50 years in Japan. Studies revealed that tipepidine modulates monoamine levels, by inhibiting G-protein-activated inwardly rectifying potassium (GIRK) channels, expecting the potential therapeutic effects of tipepidine for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in recent years. In this study, TS-141, a sustained-release tablet of tipepidine, was developed for the treatment of ADHD through a drug repositioning approach. METHODS: The sustained-release profile of TS-141 in healthy adults was investigated, and tipepidine exposure in the plasma after the TS-141 administration was compared to that of Asverin in the phase I study. Phase II study was conducted to examine the effects of TS-141 30 (once a day), 60 (once a day), 120 mg (60 mg twice a day), or placebo, that is within the exposure in the maximum dosage of Asverin, in children and adolescents with ADHD, and was designed as an 8-week treatment, randomized, parallel group, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial recruiting 6-17-year-old children and adolescents diagnosed with ADHD. A total of 216 patients were randomized according to the CYP2D6 phenotype. The primary end-point was ADHD Rating Scale IV-J changes. Furthermore, effects of CYP2D6 phenotype on the efficacy in the subgroup analysis were investigated. RESULTS: TS-141 had the sustained-release profile, and the CYP2D6 phenotype had effects on the plasma exposure of tipepidine. ADHD RS-IV-J scores in all TS-141 dosages decreased from their baseline scores; however, no significant difference was observed in ADHD RS-IV-J score changes between the placebo and TS-141-administered groups. In patients with intermediate metabolizer CYP2D6, ADHD RS-IV-J score changes in the 120 mg group tended to be larger than that in the placebo group. CONCLUSIONS: ADHD RS-IV-J changes on TS-141 may depend on the interaction between the TS-141 dose and CYP2D6 phenotype, suggesting that further clinical trials should be conducted with careful consideration of polymorphism. Drug repositioning approach of TS-141 was attempted at the same dose as that of antitussive; however, dose setting according to the indication was necessary. RESUMO

PURPOSE: Three-dimensional virtual endoscopy (3DVE) has the potential advantage of enhanced anatomic delineation and spatial orientation during laparoscopic procedures. In the present study, we aimed to evaluate the impact of 3DVE guidance in laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy (LDP). METHODS: Thirty-eight patients presenting to our hospital with a variety of pancreatic tumors underwent preoperative computed tomography scanning to clearly define the major peripancreatic vasculature and correlate it with a 3DVE system (SYNAPSE VINCENT: Fujifilm Medical, Tokyo, Japan). This map served as the guide during preoperative planning, surgical education, and simulation and as intraoperative navigation reference for LDP. Operative records and pathological findings were analyzed for each procedure. Operative parameters were compared between the 38 patients in this study and 8 patients performed without 3DVE guidance at our institution. RESULTS: The 3DVE navigation system successfully created a preoperative resection map in all patients. Relevant peripancreatic vasculature displayed on the system was identified and compared during the intervention. The mean blood loss in LDP performed under 3DVE guidance versus LDP without 3DVE was 168.5 +/- 347.6 g versus 330.0 +/- 211.4 g, p = 0.008 while and the operative time was 171.9 +/- 51.7 min versus 240.6 +/- 24.8 min, p = 0.001. CONCLUSIONS: 3DVE in conjunction with a "laparoscopic eye" creates a preoperative and intraoperative three-dimensional data platform that potentially enhances the accuracy and safety of LDP.

RESUMO

On March 11, 2011, Japan was struck by a massive earthquake and tsunami. The tsunami caused tremendous damage and traumatized children. We aimed to evaluate and compare the changes in the traumatic symptoms of high school girls 8, 20, 30, and 42 months after the 2011 tsunami. The Post-Traumatic Stress Symptoms for Children 15 items (PTSSC-15), a self-rating questionnaire on traumatic symptoms, was administered to 811 high school girls at the above-mentioned intervals. We calculated the total score, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) subscale, and depression subscale of PTSSC-15. The total score was correlated with house damage, evacuation experience, and bereavement experience. The PTSSC-15 total scores of high school girls with traumatic experience were significantly higher than the scores of children without these experiences (all p < 0.0001). The PTSSC-15 total score did not decrease significantly over time. Furthermore, the PTSD subscale of the PTSSC-15 did not significantly improved over the study duration. However, the depression subscale of the PTSSC-15 significantly improved at 30 months, but significantly worsened at 42 months (both p < 0.0001). This study demonstrates that the traumatic symptoms of high school girls who survived the massive tsunami fluctuated unpredictably with time. Nonetheless, high school girls continued to suffer depressive symptoms (insomnia, withdrawal, appetite loss, inattention, and physical symptoms) after 42 months.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Sleep disorders are frequently associated with childhood behavioral problems and mental illnesses such as anxiety disorder. To identify promising behavioral targets for pediatric anxiety disorder therapy, we investigated the associations between specific sleep and behavioral problems. METHODS: We conducted retrospective reviews of 105 patients aged 4-12 years who met the DSM-IV criteria for primary diagnosis of generalized anxiety disorder (n = 33), separation anxiety disorder (n = 23), social phobia (n = 21), or obsessive compulsive disorder (n = 28). Sleep problems were evaluated using the Children's Sleep Habits Questionnaire (CSHQ) and behavioral problems by the Spence Children's Anxiety Scale, Oppositional Defiant Behavior Inventory (ODBI), and Depression Self-Rating Scale for Children. RESULTS: Depressive behavior was weakly correlated with CSHQ subscores for sleep onset delay and night waking but not with total sleep disturbance. Anxiety was correlated with bedtime resistance, night waking, and total sleep disturbance score. Oppositional defiance was correlated with bedtime resistance, daytime sleepiness, sleep onset delay, and most strongly with total sleep disturbance. On multiple regression analysis ODBI score had the strongest positive association with total sleep disturbance and the strongest negative association with total sleep duration. CONCLUSIONS: Sleep problems in children with anxiety disorders are closely related to anxiety and oppositional defiant symptoms.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To measure psychiatric symptoms exhibited by children in Ishinomaki City, Japan, an area severely damaged by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, at 8 and 20 months post-tsunami to investigate differences in symptom severity and recovery rate by age, sex, and degree of trauma experienced. STUDY DESIGN: Prospective data were collected from children in elementary school (5th and 6th grades) and junior high school (8th and 9th grades). Students completed the Post-Traumatic Stress Symptoms for Children-15 (PTSSC-15) survey. Trauma severity was scored according to experiences of bereavement, home damage, and evacuation. In total, 3795 PTSSC-15 surveys were analyzed, yielding total scores, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) factor subscores, and depression factor subscores, which were analyzed according to grade group, sex, and degree of trauma (trauma dose). RESULTS: In the elementary school children, mean total PTSSC-15 score, PTSD factor score, and depression factor score were significantly improved at 20 months post-tsunami compared with 8 months (P < .0001 for all), whereas there were no significant improvements in the junior high school children. In females of the older group, the depression factor score at 20 months post-tsunami was significantly higher than at 8 months (P < .01). CONCLUSIONS: Elementary school and junior high school children living near the epicenter of the 2011 Japan earthquake and tsunami exhibited marked differences in PTSD and depressive symptoms. The mental health status of elementary school children improved, whereas that of junior high school children did not.

RESUMO

This preliminary study is the first to demonstrate that AI can precisely identify loose connective tissue during laparoscopic cholecystectomy and ICG fluorescent cholangiography. Tashiro and colleagues conclude that this novel real-time navigation modality fusing AI and ICG fluorescent imaging may enhance safety and provide more reliable laparoscopic or robotic surgery.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Several lines of evidence suggest that dysfunction of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) and orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) contributes to the pathophysiology of pervasive developmental disorders (PDD). The purpose of this study was to investigate neuropsychological dysfunctions in both the DLPFC and OFC of children and adolescents with high-functioning PDD. METHODS: The Iowa gambling task (IGT), which reflects OFC function, and the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST), which reflects DLPFC function, were assigned to 19 children and early adolescents with high-functioning PDD and 19 healthy controls matched for gender, age, and intelligence. RESULTS: Compared to healthy controls, patients with high-functioning PDD displayed poorer performance on the IGT and the WCST. CONCLUSIONS: These results indicate that both the DLPFC and OFC could be impaired in children and early adolescents with high-functioning PDD.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND/AIM: Laparoscopic hepatectomy (LH) requires accurate visualization and appropriate handling of hepatic veins and the Glissonean pedicle that suddenly appear during liver dissection. Failure to recognize these structures can cause injury, resulting in severe bleeding and bile leakage. This study aimed to develop a novel artificial intelligence (AI) system that assists in the visual recognition and color presentation of tubular structures to correct the recognition gap among surgeons. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Annotations were performed on over 350 video frames capturing LH, after which a deep learning model was developed. The performance of the AI was evaluated quantitatively using intersection over union (IoU) and Dice coefficients, as well as qualitatively using a two-item questionnaire on sensitivity and misrecognition completed by 10 hepatobiliary surgeons. The usefulness of AI in medical education was qualitatively evaluated by 10 medical students and residents. RESULTS: The AI model was able to individually recognize and colorize hepatic veins and the Glissonean pedicle in real time. The IoU and Dice coefficients were 0.42 and 0.53, respectively. Surgeons provided a mean sensitivity score of 4.24±0.89 (from 1 to 5; Excellent) and a mean misrecognition score of 0.12±0.33 (from 0 to 4; Fail). Medical students and residents assessed the AI to be very useful (mean usefulness score, 1.86±0.35; from 0 to 2; Excellent). CONCLUSION: The novel AI presented was able to assist surgeons in the intraoperative recognition of microstructures and address the recognition gap among surgeons to ensure a safer and more accurate LH.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND/AIM: Indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence is useful in laparoscopic hepatectomy (LH) for tumor identification and staining, as well as determination of resection margins. At our Institution, patient-specific, three-dimensional simulations and rehearsal of surgical strategies are carried out preoperatively. We describe cases in which ICG administered preoperatively became stagnated and fluoresced in an area similar to the preoperatively established resection area and the pathological findings in these cases. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Four patients who underwent LH at our hospital between 2020 and 2023 (due to hepatocellular carcinoma in two and colorectal liver metastasis in two) were enrolled in the present study. The ICG-fluorescing liver segments were resected laparoscopically and their pathological characteristics were examined using a fluorescence microscope. RESULTS: In four cases, the areas of ICG fluorescence seen intraoperatively were due to stasis of preoperatively administered ICG, which fortuitously was equivalent to the planned resection area in the preoperative patient-specific simulation. The fluorescent areas were resected; there were no cases of bile leakage or recurrence. Fluorescence microscopy revealed areas with diffuse ICG fluorescence in normal hepatocytes on the tumor's peripheral side. CONCLUSION: It was suggested that resection of the liver area that was fluorescent due to stagnation of preoperatively administered ICG was rational and justified both anatomically and oncologically. This resection may also contribute to the prevention of bile leakage and recurrence.

RESUMO

Background/Aim: According to the Tokyo Guidelines 2018, the operation for acute cholecystitis is recommended to be performed as early as possible. However, there are cases in which early surgeries cannot be performed due to complications of patients or facility conditions, resulting in elective surgery. Hence, we retrospectively analyzed elective surgery cases in this study. Patients and Methods: There were 345 patients who were underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) at our hospital from January 2019 to December 2020 in this retrospective study. A total of 83 patients underwent LC more than 3 days after conservative treatment. The elective LC patients were divided into the Early group (4-90 days after onset, n=36) and the Delayed group [91 days or more (13 weeks or more) after onset, n=31], excluding 16 patients who underwent percutaneous transhepatic gallbladder drainage. Results: As for operative time, there was a significant difference between the Delayed and Early groups (91.2 vs. 117 minutes, p=0.0108). And also, there was a significant difference in the postoperative hospital stay, which was significantly shorter in the Delayed group than in the Early group (3.4 vs. 5.9 days, p=0.0436). Although there were no significant differences in either conversion rates or complication rates, both of these were decreasing in the Delayed group. In particular, there were no complications in the Delayed group. Conclusion: When the conservative treatment for acute cholecystitis precedes and precludes urgent/early LC within 3 days, delaying LC for at least 91 days (13 weeks or more) after onset could reduce operative time and postoperative hospital stay. Moreover, there would be no complications after LC, and the rates of conversion during LC may be kept low.

RESUMO

AIM: The aim of this research was to clarify the development of depression among boys with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) by examining the correlation between depressive mood, oppositional defiant behavior, and age for each ADHD subtype. METHODS: The Birleson Depression Self-Rating Scale (DSRS) was used to evaluate depressive mood while the Oppositional Defiant Behavior Inventory (ODBI) was used to evaluate oppositional defiant behavior. The 90 subjects were divided into three groups: 22 boys (mean age, 12.4 ± 1.9 years) were placed in the ADHD predominantly inattentive type (ADHD-I) group; 45 boys (mean age, 10.4 ± 2.0 years) were placed in the ADHD combined type (ADHD-C) group; and 23 boys (mean age, 12.7 ± 2.4 years) were placed in the depressive disorder (DD) group. The DD group was included to highlight characteristics of depressive mood among boys with ADHD. RESULTS: The DSRS score was significantly higher in the DD group compared to the ADHD-I and ADHD-C groups. The ODBI score was significantly higher in the ADHD-C group compared to the ADHD-I (P = 0.043) and DD (P = 0.013) groups. In the DD group, ODBI was seen to decrease with increasing age. A certain degree of oppositional defiant behavior was seen in each ADHD subtype. The DSRS score correlated with the ODBI score in the ADHD-C group, while the DSRS score correlated with age in the ADHD-I group. CONCLUSION: The characteristics of developing depressive mood in childhood ADHD appeared to differ between subtypes and also differed from depression without ADHD.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Several lines of evidence implicate orbitofrontal cortex dysfunction in the pathophysiology of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). The purpose of this study was to investigate neuropsychological dysfunction of the orbitofrontal cortex in children with OCD. METHODS: The Iowa Gambling Task (IGT), which reflects orbitofrontal cortex function, and the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST), which is associated with functioning of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, were administered to 22 children with OCD and 22 healthy controls matched for gender, age, and intelligence. RESULTS: OCD patients displayed poor performance on the IGT. In contrast, performance on the WCST was not impaired in OCD patients compared to controls. CONCLUSIONS: These findings are in line with previous studies demonstrating that OCD in childhood is associated with a dysfunction of orbitofrontal-striatal-thalamic circuitry.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND/AIM: Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is used to treat primary and metastatic tumors in the liver. However, local recurrence after RFA is frequent and subsequent salvage hepatectomy is often ineffective due to difficulty in visualization of tumor margins. PATIENTS AND METHODS: In the present retrospective clinical trial, seven patients from the Department of General and Gastro-enterological Surgery, Showa University School of Medicine underwent salvage hepatectomy for recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) (n=2), colorectal liver metastasis (n=4) and lung-carcinoid liver metastasis (n=1), after RFA, between 2011 and 2020. Tumors were labeled with indocyanine green (ICG) and resected under fluorescence guidance. Resected specimens were evaluated under fluorescence microscopy as well as by standard histopathological techniques. RESULTS: Pathological findings revealed negative tumor margins in all patients after fluorescence-guided surgery. Six of seven resected tumors had a fluorescent rim, including both HCC and liver metastasis. Fluorescence microscopy demonstrated that viable cancer tumor cells were located only on the inside of the fluorescent rim, and no malignant cells were detected within the fluorescent rim surrounding the tumor. Fluorescence microscopy showed that the tumor margin was secured if the fluorescence signal was completely resected. CONCLUSION: The present results demonstrate that ICG labeling of liver tumors recurring after RFA enabled complete resection under fluorescence guidance. The present study is the first clinical study to demonstrate that tumor types that generally cannot be completely resected with bright light are fully resectable under fluorescence guidance.

RESUMO

Backgrounds: Hikikomori, pathological social withdrawal, is becoming a crucial mental health issue in Japan and worldwide. We have developed a 3-day family intervention program for hikikomori sufferers based on Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) and Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT). This study aims to confirm the effectiveness of the 3-day program by a randomized controlled trial. Methods: This study was registered on the UMIN Clinical Trials Registry (UMIN000037289). Fifteen parents were assigned to the treat as usual (TAU) group (TAU only; Age Mean, 65.6; SD, 7.8), and 14 to the Program group (program + TAU; Age Mean, 67.9; SD, 8.6). This study was discontinued due to the COVID-19 pandemic; the recruitment rate was 36.3% of our target sample size of 80. Results: Perceived skills improved temporally and stigma temporally worsened in the TAU group. Confidence decreased and attitude showed no change in both groups. Aggressive behaviors of hikikomori sufferers were significantly worsened in the Program group; however, no serious domestic violence was reported. In the TAU group, Avoidance and irregular life patterns were improved. Activity levels were worsened in both groups. Two participants (16.7%) in the Program group and one participant (7.7%) in the TAU group reported actual behavioral changes (e.g., utilizing support). Conclusion: We could not draw general conclusions on the effectiveness of the program due to the study discontinuation. Nevertheless, this study indicates the necessity for revision of the program to improve family members' confidence in engaging with hikikomori sufferers, with safer approaching by families.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Probe-based confocal laser endomicroscopy (pCLE) can visualize microscopic structures at high resolution but has not yet yielded definitive diagnostic features of gallbladder malignancy, as opposed to benign changes. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 73 patients had their gallbladder evaluated with pCLE performed on resected benign and malignant gallbladder surgical specimens, which were sprayed with fluorescein. Malignant and benign features of pCLE findings were identified on the basis of Miami and Paris Classifications. Standard histopathological diagnoses and individual patient pCLE findings of gallbladder lesions were correlated. RESULTS: Of the 73 consecutive patients that had their gallbladder evaluated ex vivo with pCLE, 11 were identified with gallbladder malignancy. pCLE identified features of gallbladders examined ex vivo, including the presence of thick dark bands and dark clumps, which together correlated with histopathologically-determined biliary malignancy at 100% sensitivity. Thick white bands and visualized epithelium, also identified with pCLE, together correlated with histopathologically-determined malignancy at 100% specificity. CONCLUSION: pCLE can be used for real-time differentiation of cancerous/non-cancerous regions in the gallbladder using the diagnostic criteria identified in the present study.

RESUMO

AIMS: The main purpose of this first atomoxetine study in Japanese adults with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) was to investigate the tolerability of an 8-week treatment regimen. METHODS: This was an open-label, dose escalation study conducted in 45 Japanese patients aged at least 18 years with DSM-IV-defined ADHD. Patients received atomoxetine orally for 8 weeks. Atomoxetine administration was started at 40 mg/day (7 days), and subsequently increased to a maximum dose of 120 mg/day. Tolerability was assessed by discontinuation rate due to adverse events. Adverse events, laboratory tests, vital signs and electrocardiograms were collected. In addition, ADHD symptoms were assessed by using the Japanese version of the Conners' Adult ADHD Rating Scale-Investigator Rated: Screening Version (CAARS-Inv:SV) scores. RESULTS: Thirty-nine patients completed the study period. Atomoxetine was well tolerated with a 6.7% (3/45) discontinuation rate due to nausea, malaise and anorexia. The most commonly reported adverse events were nausea, nasopharyngitis and headache; there were no unexpected safety concerns. No deaths or serious adverse events were reported. Mean CAARS-Inv:SV-J total ADHD symptom scores decreased in a time-dependent manner; the mean change from baseline to endpoint was -15.0 (P<0.001). CONCLUSIONS: This study showed that atomoxetine was well tolerated in these patients and suggested that atomoxetine at a maximum dose of 120 mg/day would be safe in Japanese ADHD patients.

RESUMO

Roosting information is crucial to guiding bat conservation and bat-friendly forestry practices. The Ryukyu tube-nosed bat Murina ryukyuana (Endangered) and Yanbaru whiskered bat Myotis yanbarensis (Critically Endangered) are forest-dwelling bats endemic to the central Ryukyu Archipelago, Japan. Despite their threatened status, little is known about the roosting ecology of these species and the characteristics of natural maternity roosts are unknown. To inform sustainable forestry practices and conservation management, we radio-tracked day roosts of both species in the subtropical forests of Okinawa's Kunigami Village District. We compared roost and roost site characteristics statistically between M. ryukyuana nonmaternity roosts (males or nonreproductive females), maternity roosts, and all M. yanbarensis roosts. Generalized linear models were used to investigate roost site selection by M. ryukyuana irrespective of sex and age class. Lastly, we compiled data on phenology from this and prior studies. Nonreproductive M. ryukyuana roosted alone and primarily in understory foliage. Murina ryukyuana maternity roosts were limited to stands >50 years old, and ~60% were in foliage. Myotis yanbarensis roosted almost entirely in cavities along gulch bottoms and only in stands >70 years old (~1/3 of Kunigami's total forest area). Murina ryukyuana maternity roosts were higher (4.3 ± 0.6 m) than conspecific nonmaternity roosts (2.3 ± 0.5 m; p < .001) and M. yanbarensis roosts (2.7 ± 0.5 m; not significant). Model results were inconclusive. Both species appear to be obligate plant roosters throughout their life cycle, but the less flexible roosting preferences of M. yanbarensis may explain its striking rarity. To conserve these threatened bats, we recommend the following forestry practices: (a) reduce clearing of understory vegetation, (b) refrain from removing trees along streams, (c) promote greater tree cavity densities by protecting old-growth forests and retaining snags, and (d) refrain from removing trees or understory between April and July, while bats are pupping.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND/AIM: Soft pancreatic texture is a risk factor for postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF). However, conventional evaluation of pancreatic texture is largely dependent on subjective assessment and lacks quantitative parameters. The study aimed to use ultrasonic shear wave elastography (SWE) to evaluate pancreatic stiffness to determine if the intraoperative SWE measurement could be a quantitative predictor for POPF. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Fifteen patients scheduled for pancreaticoduodenectomy were included. Both pre- and intra-operative measurement of the pancreatic SWE index (SWEI) were evaluated. Relationships between intraoperative and preoperative SWEI, pathological fibrosis of the resected pancreatic specimen, postoperative exocrine function of the remnant pancreas, and the incidence of POPF were evaluated. RESULTS: The intraoperative SWEI was correlated with the preoperative SWEI, pathological fibrosis of pancreatic tissue, and pancreatic exocrine function. CONCLUSION: Intraoperative SWE measurement of pancreatic elasticity may be useful as a quantitative method for evaluating pancreatic fibrosis and exocrine function.
