Background and Objectives: Juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma (JNA) is an angiomatous hamartoma of the nasal cavity. It is a benign but locally aggressive vascular tumor of the nasopharynx affecting adolescent males. Many surgical procedures are in practice, but the extended endonasal endoscopic (EEE) approach for JNAs is a suitable and effective technique. Materials and Methods: Fifteen adolescent patients having JNA who underwent extended endonasal endoscopic (EEE) surgery from January 2010 to January 2022 were studied retrospectively. Patients having residual and recurrent JNAs and those who underwent surgery other than EEE were excluded. Results: The average age of the patients was 18.3 years of age. A total of six patients (40%) each had stage V and IV while three patients (20%) had stage III JNAs. Gross total removal was achieved in eight (53.3%) patients and seven (43.7%) had partial removal. There was no per or postoperative mortality. All the patients had at least 3 years of postoperative follow-up and during follow-ups, seven patients were found to have residual tumors, and two had recurrences. Discussion: During the last decades, the endoscopic approach for the resection of JNAs has gained increasing popularity due to its obvious advantages over transfacial approaches. The magnified and angled field of view "behind the corner" helping in a more complete inspection for the resection and shorter hospitalization time makes it a better choice than the other approaches. Conclusions: Endoscopy is an excellent approach for primary JNA. It allows well visualization and precise removal of the angiofibroma. An endoscopic multiangle, multicorridor skull base approach including Denker's anteromedial maxillotomy is suitable and preferable for the resection of extensive JNAs.

Honey inhibits bacterial growth due to the high sugar concentration, hydrogen peroxide generation, and proteinaceous compounds present in it. In this study, the antibacterial activity of stingless and sting honey against foodborne pathogenic bacteria isolated from spoiled milk samples was examined. The isolated bacterial strains were confirmed as Bacillus cereus and Listeriamonocytogenes through morphological, biochemical, and 16 s RNA analysis. Physiochemical characterizations of the honey samples revealed that both of the honey samples had an acidic pH, low water content, moderate reducing sugar content, and higher proline content. Through the disc diffusion method, the antibacterial activities of the samples were assayed and better results were observed for the 50 mg/disc honey. Both stingless and sting honey showed the most positive efficacy against Bacillus cereus. Therefore, an in silico study was conducted against this bacterium with some common compounds of honey. From several retrieved constituents of stingless and sting honey, 2,4-dihydroxy-2,5-dimethyl 3(2H)-furan-3-one (furan) and 4H-pyran-4-one,2,3-dihydro of both samples and beta.-D-glucopyranose from the stingless revealed high ligand-protein binding efficiencies for the target protein (6d5z, hemolysin II). The root-mean-square deviation, solvent-accessible surface area, the radius of gyration, root-mean-square fluctuations, and hydrogen bonds were used to ensure the binding stability of the docked complexes in the atomistic simulation and confirmed their stability. The combined effort of wet and dry lab-based work support, to some extent, that the antimicrobial properties of honey have great potential for application in medicine as well as in the food industries.

Species in the extremely thermophilic genus Caldicellulosiruptor can degrade unpretreated plant biomass through the action of multimodular glycoside hydrolases. To date, most focus with these bacteria has been on hydrolysis of glucans and xylans, while the biodegradation mechanism for arabinose-based polysaccharides remains unclear. Here, putative α-l-arabinofuranosidases (AbFs) were identified in Caldicellulosiruptor species by homology to less-thermophilic versions of these enzymes. From this screen, an extracellular XynF was determined to be a key factor in hydrolyzing α-1,2-, α-1,3-, and α-1,5-l-arabinofuranosyl residues of arabinose-based polysaccharides. Combined with a GH11 xylanase (XynA), XynF increased arabinoxylan hydrolysis more than 6-fold compared to the level seen with XynA alone, likely the result of XynF removing arabinofuranosyl side chains to generate linear xylans that were readily degraded. A second AbF, the intracellular AbF51, preferentially cleaved the α-1,5-l-arabinofuranosyl glycoside bonds within sugar beet arabinan. ß-Xylosidases, such as GH39 Xyl39B, facilitated the hydrolysis of arabinofuranosyl residues at the nonreducing terminus of the arabinose-branched xylo-oligosaccharides by AbF51. These results demonstrate the separate but complementary contributions of extracellular XynF and cytosolic AbF51 in processing the bioconversion of arabinose-containing oligosaccharides to fermentable monosaccharides.IMPORTANCE Degradation of hemicellulose, due to its complex chemical structure, presents a major challenge during bioconversion of lignocellulosic biomass to biobased fuels and chemicals. Degradation of arabinose-containing polysaccharides, in particular, can be a key bottleneck in this process. Among Caldicellulosiruptor species, the multimodular arabinofuranosidase XynF is present in only selected members of this genus. This enzyme exhibited high hydrolysis activity, broad specificity, and strong synergism with other hemicellulases acting on arabino-polysaccharides. An intracellular arabinofuranosidase, AbF51, occurs in all Caldicellulosiruptor species and, in conjunction with xylosidases, processes the bioconversion of arabinose-branched oligosaccharides to fermentable monosaccharides. Taken together, the data suggest that plant biomass degradation in Caldicellulosiruptor species involves extracellular XynF that acts synergistically with other hemicellulases to digest arabino-polysaccharides that are subsequently transported and degraded further by intracellular AbF51 to produce short-chain arabino sugars.

This study investigates the augmentation of students' engagement in the online learning process using Zoom platform. To engage students more in the online classes we have conducted a survey on four universities students in the four dimensions. To investigate effective online class, we have gone through descriptive statistics followed by principal component analysis (PCA) and factor regression model to identify predicted factors that engage students more in the Zoom online classes. The results of PCA confirmed that questions answer session, instructor asks question to them, break during the class, topic related examples, experience sharing scope, case studies, using Google classroom, screen share, screen annotation, video contents share, class recording, raise hand and reactions to topics can enhance students engagement in the Zoom online classes. The regression results validate all four dimensions have significant influence on effective zoom online class that enhance students learning process. Thus, findings of this study recommend educating course instructors for ensuring all the applications of online learning process while conducting online classes. We strongly believe this course of action will engage students in the online class to enhance learning activities using Zoom platform in Bangladesh.

The Major Histocompatibility Complex class I chain-related molecule A (MICA) genes encode a highly polymorphic glycoprotein among the cell surface antigens that trigger an immune response after allograft transplantation. It is encoded by the MICA gene, a member of the glycosylated MIC genes. Discovered in 1994, the MICA gene is located within the MHC class I region. Moreover, its biological function is achieved through the interaction with the NKG2D receptor. Unlike the classical HLA molecules, MICA protein is not associated with ß2- microglobulin nor binds peptides. MICA gene expression may result in a cytotoxic response and IFN-γ secretion through the up-regulation by heat shock proteins in response to infection (Human Cytomegalovirus HCMV), mediated by NKG2D-expressing cells. Anti-MICA antibodies were identified as significant risk factors for antibody mediated rejection after being detected in sera of patients with graft rejection. In addition, soluble MICA proteins (sMICA) has been detected in the serum of transplant recipients with cancers. Furthermore, the association of MICA polymorphisms with infectious diseases, various autoimmune diseases, cancer, and allograft rejection or graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) has been studied. Moreover, numerous advanced disease studies centered on MICA polymorphism are independent of HLA association. In this review, we discussed the up-to-date data about MICA and the association of MICA polymorphism with infections, autoimmune diseases, graft-versus-host disease, and cancer.

AIM AND OBJECTIVE: In this article, we describe a novel technique of reconstruction of posterior fossa by cranioplasty with use of preshaped titanium mesh following posterior fossa decompression (PFD) for Chiari malformation type I (CMI) with syringomyelia (SM) in symptomatic adults. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Eleven patients underwent limited PFD and expansive cranioplasty with preshaped titanium mesh, what we term as "Stealth Cranioplasty" (SCP), following arachnoid preserving duraplasty (APD) and hexagonal tenting of the duraplasty with the cranioplasty (HTDC) for the management of symptomatic adult CMI with SM. All these patients had syringes extending from 3 to >10 vertebral levels. RESULTS: Seven male and four female symptomatic CMI adult patients, between age ranges of 22 and 44 years (mean 29.45 years), presented with different neurological symptoms related to CMI and SM for 6-84 months (mean 37.09 months). All the patients underwent PFD, APD followed by SCP and HTDC and were followed up for 7-54 months (mean 35.90 months). Of 11 patients, 8 patients improved according to the Chicago Chiari Outcome Scale (CCOS) with score of 13-15 while 3 patients remained unchanged with CCOS of 12, and there was no worsening. There was no complication related to Chiari surgery in any of the patients. All the patients had good reestablishment of cisterna magna. Two patients had marked reduction of syrinx while eight patients had moderate-to-mild reduction and one patient had no change of syrinx. None of the patients needed redo surgery. CONCLUSION: SCP is an effective, fruitful, and cost-effective technique for the management of symptomatic adult CMI with SM. This technique has the advantages of preventing complications and recurrences in addition to the improvement of symptoms by addressing the basic pathology.
