RESUMO

Carbon dots (CDs) smaller than 10 nm constitute a new type of fluorescent carbon-based nanomaterial. They have attracted much attention owing to their unique structures and excellent photoelectric properties. Primitive CDs usually comprise carbon and oxygen and are synthesized in one step from various natural products or synthetic organic compounds, usually via microwave or hydrothermal methods. However, the uniformity of surface functional groups often make CDs lack the diversity of active sites required for specific applications. Therefore, the functionalization of CDs by specific groups is a powerful strategy for improving their photophysical and photochemical properties. This paper reviews surface modification strategies to overcome these shortcomings. Functionalizing CDs using covalent or non-covalent modification can give them unique properties and broaden their applicability.

RESUMO

Carbon dots (CDs) find widespread attention due to their remarkable fluorescent and electronic properties. However, aggregation-caused quenching currently limits the application of CDs in colored displays. The construction of CDs with color-tunable solid-state fluorescence (SSF) is rarely reported, since the preparation of SSF CDs is technically challenging. Herein, through surface ligand modulation, SSF CDs with an emission-color span of almost 300 nm (from blue to deep red) were obtained. In-depth structure-property studies reveal that intra- and inter-molecular hydrogen-bonding inside SSF CDs provokes the emission properties in the aggregated state. Photodynamic characterizations demonstrate emission wavelengths can be switched smoothly by deliberately altering conjugation ability between substituent ligands and CDs core. Three-dimensional printing patterning is used to create a range of emissive objects, demonstrating the commercial potential for use in optical lamps.

RESUMO

A long distance high resolution frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) laser rangefinder with phase noise compensation and two-dimensional (2D) data processing skills is developed. Range-finding ladar consists of a continuously chirped laser source, an auxiliary reference interferometer, and a monostatic optical transceiver for target illumination and return photon collection. To extend the range unambiguity and lower the electronic processing bandwidth, a two-step laser frequency chirping scheme is adopted, where a long pulse width, small frequency bandwidth laser chirping signal are used in step 1 for coarse distance estimation, and a short pulse width and large frequency bandwidth laser chirping signal are applied afterwards for step 2 high resolution distance realization. An auxiliary reference interferometer is to record the phase noise originated from the laser source to compensate for phase errors induced in the target return photons. The 2D data processing skill helps to coherently sum up all the phase noise removed echo photons to achieve high resolution range peak extraction with high detection sensitivity. Experimental demonstration shows that the proposed FMCW ladar at 1550 nm wavelength with a laser chirping bandwidth of 10 GHz and electronic processing bandwidth of 200 MHz can measure a corner cube test target in an outdoor atmospheric environment, and the measurement results are 12013.905 m with a 2.4 cm range resolution under strong return photon levels and 12013.920 m with a 2.5 cm range resolution under weak return photon levels.

RESUMO

The COVID-19 pandemic response has had a significant impact on the general population's ability to participate in their communities. Individuals with disabilities, an already socially disadvantaged population, are more vulnerable to and have likely been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 response conditions. Yet, the extent to which the daily community living activities of people with disabilities have been impacted is unknown. Thus, this study assesses their travel behavior and community living during the COVID-19 pandemic conditions compared with those of the general population. A web survey was conducted using Qualtrics's online panel data (respondents included 161 people with any type of disability and 232 people without a disability). Regression models found that people with disabilities reduced their daily travel to a greater extent but at varying degrees, depending on the destination types and travel modes. Reductions in taxi rides (including ride-hailing services) were most significant among people with cognitive and sensory (e.g., vision and hearing) disabilities. By place type, cognitive disability was associated with a trip reduction for multiple destination types-grocery, restaurants, outdoor recreation, indoor recreation, and healthcare providers. Findings from this study could contribute to decision- and policy-making in planning, transportation, and community services during the remainder of the COVID-19 pandemic, in future major public health crises, and post-COVID, because the adjustments in travel behavior and community living might be longer-term.

RESUMO

As one of the most ubiquitous bulk reagents available, the intrinsic chemical inertness of tetrahydrofuran (THF) makes direct and site-selective C(sp3 )-H bond activation difficult, especially under redox neutral condition. Here, we demonstrate that semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) can activate α-C-H bond of THF via forming QDs/THF conjugates. Under visible light irradiation, the resultant alkoxyalkyl radical directly engages in radical cross-coupling with α-amino radical from amino C-H bonds or radical addition with alkene or phenylacetylene, respectively. In contrast to stoichiometric oxidant or hydrogen atom transfer reagents required in previous studies, the scalable benchtop approach can execute α-C-H bond activation of THF only by a QD photocatalyst under redox-neutral condition, thus providing a broad of value added chemicals starting from bulk THFs reagent.

RESUMO

In space defense, utilizing the micromotion features to distinguish real targets from interfering targets and decoys is effective. Due to the imaging of the high-speed precession target by microwave radar consisting of isolated scattering centers, there are many difficulties in using inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) images for feature extraction. On the other hand, the inverse synthetic aperture ladar (ISAL) image is relatively continuous because of the short wavelength of laser, and the image sequence contains information about the variation in image length and Doppler width caused by target precession, which can be used for inverse motion parameters. By establishing an observation model of the precession target and performing image processing on the obtained ISAL image at different times, the image length sequence and Doppler width sequence can be obtained. Using the ellipse fitting method to process the obtained sequence, the precession parameters of the target can be obtained. The algorithm does not require prior information such as the radius and speed of the target motion, effectively improving the practicability of the algorithm. Finally, the effectiveness of the algorithm is verified by experimental results, and the error is controlled within 2%.

RESUMO

Doppler tomography is an important means to obtain two-dimensional (2-D) images of remote targets. It is especially suitable for imaging spinning targets such as space debris, warheads, and aircraft blades. However, related research is mostly focused on the microwave band rather than the laser. Higher resolution can be achieved by implementing Doppler tomography in the laser band compared to the existing Doppler tomography in the microwave. Moreover, existing imaging methods are mostly directed at point targets. When these methods deal with extended target echoes, the image quality is unsatisfactory. These problems severely limit the application of Doppler tomography. Here, a novel laser Doppler tomography method has been proposed. The method is based on a single-frequency laser radar (LADAR) that does not require any form of wideband modulation of the transmitted signal. The imaging process is based on the precise relationship between the scattering coefficient of the target and the statistical characteristics of the Doppler spectrum and finds the maximum a posteriori (MAP) estimate of the scattering coefficient distribution. The imaging resolution depends on the Doppler frequency resolution, which exceeds the diffraction limit and is independent of the imaging distance. A laser Doppler tomography experimental system was established. With this system, high-quality laser Doppler tomograms of extended targets were obtained for the first time. In the experiment, the targets have different rotational speeds from 100 to 1000 r/min. The images of these targets with a resolution of 0.4 mm are obtained at a distance of 5 m indoors. In these images, the target details such as textures on the surfaces can be rendered. The quality of these images is greatly improved compared to existing processing methods. The experimental results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed laser Doppler tomography method.

RESUMO

In ballistic missile defense, using precession parameters is an effective way to determine warheads from decoys. Due to the geometric theory of diffraction, the backscattered field from a smooth object for a microwave radar consists of contributions from only isolated scattering centers. Further, thanks to the short wavelength of the laser, the ladar could obtain complete Doppler information of illuminated parts of precessing targets. On the basis of modeling the observation geometry of a rotating target with precession, a novel method for extracting precession parameters using coherent ladar based on a Doppler frequency profile (DFP) of dual-view observation is first proposed, to the best of our knowledge. By analyzing the periodic changes of bandwidth of a cone-shaped precessing object, we indicate that the sequence of DFP bandwidth can be approximate to a sinusoid function, based on which the precession period can be obtained through sinusoidal fitting. The precession angle can be obtained by combining dual-aspect receiving observation. A laboratory experiment verified the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, and the errors of extracted parameters are about 10%.

RESUMO

As an important imaging method for long-range satellite targets, inverse synthetic aperture ladar (ISAL) has the characteristics of high-resolution imaging and competitive detectability. Since the working wavelength of the ISAL is comparable to the micro-vibrations generated by mechanical moving components of satellites, which will cause image defocusing, motion compensation is of great significance. In this paper, an autofocus algorithm is proposed for estimating and compensating the phase error relating to both translational and rotational micro-vibrations. Comparing with non-parametric algorithms like phase gradient autofocus and parametric algorithms like contrast-based autofocus and entropy-based autofocus, the proposed one, which is based on two prominent points, is especially effective for the rotational phase error oscillating numbers of cycles. Simulations and experiments are conducted to validate the feasibility of the proposed algorithm.

RESUMO

A novel and high-efficiency linear frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) ladar system for synthetic aperture imaging is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. This novel system generates wide-bandwidth linear FMCW ladar signals by employing an electro-optic LiNbO3- in-phase and quadrature modulator with an effective bias controller. The effectiveness of the proposed system is experimentally validated. Optical synthetic aperture images are obtained by using two 0.41 cm aperture diameter telescopes at the distance of 1 km. The resolution of these images can reach to 4 cm. A resolution improvement by about 10 times is achieved when compared with the conventional real aperture imaging system.

RESUMO

The tumor recurrence and infected wound tissue defect are the major clinical challenges after the surgical treatment of primary chest wall cancer. Herein, to address the above issues, blending electrospinning was applied to incorporate glucose oxidase (GOx) loaded Zn/Cu-based bimetallic zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (GOx/BMOFs) into polyurethane (PU) fibers, which were designed for effective cancer therapy with improved wound healing. The release of Cu2+ and GOx could accomplish the conversion from Cu2+ to Cu+ through the glutathione (GSH) depletion and provide additional H2O2 from glucose by GOx catalysis, respectively, which further underwent the Fenton-like reaction to produce toxic hydroxyl radical (OH). The tumor cells (human fibrosarcoma cells) could be effectively killed in vitro and in vivo through the synergistic chemodynamic therapy and starvation therapy. Moreover, the electrospun fiber platform could support the adhesion and proliferation of wound tissue cells, and also show the antibacterial ability owing to the functional agents in the fibers, thereby accelerating the infected wound repair in vivo. This work may offer a reliable and effective fiber biomaterial for localized chest wall tumor therapy and simultaneous tissue regeneration.

RESUMO

The effect of the Cr element on the corrosion behavior of as-spun Fe72-xCrxB19.2Si4.8Nb4 ribbons with x = 0, 7.2, 21.6, and 36 in 3.5% NaCl solution were investigated in this work. The results show that the glass formability of the alloys can be increased as Cr content (cCr) is added up to 21.6 at.%. When cCr reaches 36 at.%, some nanocrystals appear in the as-spun ribbon. With increasing cCr content, the corrosion resistances of as-spun Fe-based ribbons are continually improved as well as their hardness properties; during the polarization test, their passive film shows an increase first and then a decrease, with the highest pitting potential as cCr = 7.2 at.%, which is confirmed by an XPS test. The dense passivation film, composed of Cr2O3 and [CrOx(OH)3-2x, nH2O], can reduce the number of corrosion pits on the sample surface due to chloride corrosion and possibly be deteriorated by the overdosed CrFeB phase. This work can help us to design and prepare the highly corrosion-resistant Fe-based alloys.

RESUMO

Carbon dots (CDs) are widely utilized in sensing, energy storage, and catalysis due to their excellent optical, electrical and semiconducting properties. However, attempts to optimize their optoelectronic performance through high-order manipulation have met with little success to date. In this study, through efficient packing of individual CDs in two-dimensions, the synthesis of flexible CDs ribbons is demonstrated technically. Electron microscopies and molecular dynamics simulations, show the assembly of CDs into ribbons results from the tripartite balance of π-π attractions, hydrogen bonding, and halogen bonding forces provided by the superficial ligands. The obtained ribbons are flexible and show excellent stability against UV irradiation and heating. CDs ribbons offer outstanding performance as active layer material in transparent flexible memristors, with the developed devices providing excellent data storage, retention capabilities, and fast optoelectronic responses. A memristor device with a thickness of 8 µm shows good data retention capability even after 104 cycles of bending. Furthermore, the device functions effectively as a neuromorphic computing system with integrated storage and computation capabilities, with the response speed of the device being less than 5.5 ns. These properties create an optoelectronic memristor with rapid Chinese character learning capability. This work lays the foundation for wearable artificial intelligence.

RESUMO

Metallic glass, with its unique disordered atomic structure and high density of low-coordination sites, is regarded as the most competitive new catalyst for environmental catalysis. However, the efficiency and stability of metallic glass catalysts are often affected by their atomic configuration. Thus, the design and regulation of the nanoscale structure of metallic glasses to improve their catalytic efficiency and stability remains a challenge. Herein, a non-noble component, Fe75 P15 C10 amorphous ribbon, is used as a precursor to fabricate a hierarchical gradient catalyst with nanoscale heterogeneous and oxygenous amorphous structure by simple annealing and acid-immersing. The resulting catalyst offers an ultrahigh catalytic ability of kSA• C0 = 3101 mg m-2  min-1 and excellent reusability of 39 times without efficiency decay in dye wastewater degradation. Theoretical calculations indicate that the excellent catalytic performance of the catalyst can be attributed to its unique heterogeneous nanoglass structure, which induces oxygen atoms. Compared to the FePC structure, the FeP/FePCO structure exhibits strong charge transferability, and the energy barrier of the rate-determining steps of the conversion of S2 O8 2- to SO4 -• is reduced from 2.52 to 0.97 eV. This study reveals that a heterogeneous nanoglass structure is a new strategy for obtaining high catalytic performance.

RESUMO

Reported herein is the first example of C(sp)-H/Si-H cross-coupling by photocatalysis. In terms of cheap and readily available starting materials, a series of alkynylsilanes are prepared in good to excellent yields upon visible-light irradiation of CuCl and alkynes with silane. The large scale reaction with flow chemistry and late-stage functionalization of natural products shows the potential of the transformation in practical organic synthesis of the alkynylsilanes intermediates.

RESUMO

Impacts of pectin oligosaccharide (POS) got from hawthorn fruitage on adiponectin signaling pathway and white adipose metabolism in mice fed with high-fat control. The results showed that POS significantly inhibited the levels of inflammatory cytokines TNF-α and IL-6, and down-regulated expression of CD68. POS dramatically reduced gene expression contents of fatty acid composite concerning enzymes ACC and FAS, as well as TG synthesis-related enzymes SCD-1 and DGAT1 as compared to a high-fat group (HFC). POS dramatically increased expression levels of oxidation-related enzymes of fatty acid ACO, CPT-1, and TG deposition-related enzymes ATGL and HSL as contrast to the high-fat control group. In addition, POS activated adiponectin-mediated AdipoR1/AMPK/PPARα signaling path by upregulating expression levels of AdipoR1, AMPK and PPARα. The results demonstrated that POS can improve lipid metabolism of adipose tissue, and contribute to the creation of functional foods to prevent and treat lipid metabolism disorders. RESUMO

Hawthorn flavonoids were extracted by enzymolysis associated ultrasonic procedure. Thirteen flavonoids were identified by HPLC/ESI-QTOF/MS, and the major components were procyanidin C1, rutin-rhamnoside, vitexin-rhamnoside, and catechin. Hawthorn flavonoids exhibited strong free radical scavenging activities against DPPH, ABTS, and hydroxyl radicals. Total and intercellular antioxidant experiments revealed that the free hydro-PSC value was 295.32 ± 12.20 µmol of VCE/g DW, and the free cellular antioxidant activity (CAA) values were 168.60 ± 4.87 µmol of QE/g DW in the no PBS wash protocol and 49.53 ± 1.75 µmol of QE/g DW in the PBS wash protocol. In addition, hawthorn flavonoids exhibited higher α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibitory activities. The wheat starch digestibility was also reduced by hawthorn flavonoids as well. The results indicated that enzymolysis associated ultrasonic extraction was advisable for extracting flavonoids from hawthorn, and hawthorn flavonoids might be recommended as a potential food supplement with hypoglycemic activities.

RESUMO

In recent years, the function of the lymphatic system in atherosclerosis has attracted attention due to its role in immune cell trafficking, cholesterol removal from the periphery, and regulation of the inflammatory response. However, knowledge of the mechanisms regulating lymphangiogenesis and lymphatic function in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis is limited. Endothelial microparticles carrying circulating microRNA (miRNA)s are known to mediate cell-cell communication, and our previous research showed that miRNA-19b in EMPs (EMPmiR-19b) was significantly increased in circulation and atherosclerotic vessels, and this increase in EMPmiR-19b promoted atherosclerosis. The present study investigated whether atherogenic EMPmiR-19b influences pathological changes of the lymphatic system in atherosclerosis. We first verified increased miR-19b levels and loss of lymphatic system function in atherosclerotic mice. Atherogenic western diet-fed ApoE-/- mice were injected with phosphate-buffered saline, EMPs carrying control miRNA (EMPcontrol), or EMPmiR-19b intravenously. The function and distribution of the lymphatic system was assessed via confocal microscopy, Evans blue staining, and pathological analysis. The results showed that lymphatic system dysfunction existed in the early stage of atherosclerosis, and the observed pathological changes persisted at the later stage, companied by an increased microRNA-19b level. In ApoE-/- mice systemically treated with EMPmiR-19b, the distribution, transport function, and permeability of the lymphatic system were significantly inhibited. In vitro experiments showed that miRNA-19b may damage the lymphatic system by inhibiting lymphatic endothelial cell migration and tube formation, and a possible mechanism is the inhibition of transforming growth factor beta receptor type II (TGF-ßRII) expression in lymphatic endothelial cells by miRNA-19b. Together, our findings demonstrate that atherogenic EMPmiR-19b may destroy lymphatic system function in atherosclerotic mice by downregulating TGF-ßRII expression.

RESUMO

Recovering molecular information remains a grand challenge in the widely used holographic and computational imaging technologies. To address this challenge, we developed a computational mid-infrared photothermal microscope, termed Bond-selective Intensity Diffraction Tomography (BS-IDT). Based on a low-cost brightfield microscope with an add-on pulsed light source, BS-IDT recovers both infrared spectra and bond-selective 3D refractive index maps from intensity-only measurements. High-fidelity infrared fingerprint spectra extraction is validated. Volumetric chemical imaging of biological cells is demonstrated at a speed of ~20 s per volume, with a lateral and axial resolution of ~350 nm and ~1.1 µm, respectively. BS-IDT's application potential is investigated by chemically quantifying lipids stored in cancer cells and volumetric chemical imaging on Caenorhabditis elegans with a large field of view (~100 µm x 100 µm).
