RESUMO
In this study, Andrographis paniculata seedlings were used as experimental materials to study the effects of salicylic acid(SA) on the growth and effective component accumulation of A. paniculata under NaCl stress. The results showed that with the increase of NaCl concentration, the growth of A. paniculata seedlings was significantly inhibited, and the content of carotene and carotenoid decreased. The activity of antioxidant enzyme was enhanced. At the same time, the contents of proline, proline and soluble protein were on the rise. The contents of andrographolide, new andrographolide and deoxyandrographolide showed an upward trend, while deoxyandrographolide showed a downward trend. Treatment with 100 mmol·L~(-1) NaCl+5 mg·L~(-1) SA showed a significant increase in antioxidant enzyme activity in A. paniculata leaves. Treatment with 100 mmol·L~(-1) NaCl+10 mg·L~(-1) SA showed significant changes in soluble protein and proline content in A. paniculata leaves, while MDA content in A. paniculata leaves significantly decreased. 10 mg·L~(-1) SA had the best effect on the growth of A. paniculata seedlings under salt stress. Under the treatment of 50 mmol·L~(-1) NaCl+10 mg·L~(-1) SA, fresh weight, dry weight and leaf dry weight of A. paniculata seedlings reached the highest level, which were 1.02, 1.09 and 1.11 times of those in the control group, respectively. The concentrations of NaCl and 10 mg·L~(-1) SA were significantly higher than those of the control group. Four key enzyme genes of A. paniculata diterpene lactone synthesis pathway were selected to explore the molecular mechanism of salicylic acid to alleviate salt stress. With the increase of salt stress, the relative expressions of HMGR, GGPS and ApCPS were up-regulated, indicating that salt stress may enhance the synthesis of A. paniculata diterpene lactone through MVA pathway. SA can effectively promote the growth and development of A. paniculata under salt stress, improve its osmotic regulation and antioxidant capacity, improve its salt tolerance, and alleviate the effects of salt stress on A. paniculata.

PURPOSE: To compare the therapeutic efficacy of radiofrequency target disc decompression(TDD) and nucleoplasty for lumbar disc herniation. METHODS: Two hundred sixty patients with lumbar disc herniation were divided into two groups: target disc decompression group (group T, n = 147) and nucleoplasty group (group N, n = 113). Visual analogue scale (VAS) and functional rating index (FRI) were measured at one, three, six, 12, 24, and 60 months after the surgery. Hospitalization time, operation time, complications, and recurrence/invalid were compared between the two groups. RESULTS: Compared with the pre-operation, the VAS and FRI in both groups were significantly decreased in post-operation(P < 0.01). The VAS and FRI in group T have no significant difference compared to those in group N. The hospitalization and operation time of group T were significantly longer than those in group N. There was no significant difference of the occurrence of complications and disease recurrence/invalid during the follow-up between the two groups. Logstic regression analysis showed that operation time was an independent factor in the prognosis. Operation time affects the treatment effect. Shorter operation time leads to better therapeutic efficacy, and longer operation time leads to poor therapeutic efficacy. CONCLUSIONS: Both TDD and nucleoplasty can reduce pain in patients with lumbar disc herniation and improve quality of life. Group N had shorter hospitalization and operation time than group T.

Heavy metals contaminations in mining areas aroused wide concerns globally. Efficient evaluation of its pollution status is a basis for further soil reclamation. Visible and near-infrared reflectance (Vis-NIR) spectroscopy has been diffusely used for retrieving heavy metals concentrations. However, the reliability and feasibility of calibrated models were still doubtful. The present study estimated zinc (Zn) concentrations via the random forest (RF) and partial least squares regression (PLSR) using ground in-situ Zn concentrations as well as soil spectral reflectance at an Opencast Coal Mine of Ordos, China in February 2020. The coefficient of determination (R2), root mean square error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE), and the ratio of performance to deviation (RPD) were selected to assess the robustness of the methods in estimating Zn contents. Moreover, the characteristic bands were chosen by Pearson correlation analysis and Boruta Algorithm. Finally, the comparison between RF and PLSR combined with eight spectral reflectance transformation methods was conducted for four concentration groups to determine the optimal model. The results indicated that: (1) Zn contents represented a skewed distribution (coefficient of variation (CV) = 33%); (2) the spectral reflectance tended to decrease with the increase of Zn contents during 580-1850 nm based on Savitzky-Golay smoothing (SG); (3) the continuous wavelet transform (CWT) demonstrated higher effectiveness than other spectral reflectance transformation methods in enhancing spectral responses, the R2 between Zn contents and the soil spectral reflectance achieved the highest (R2 = 0.71) by using CWT; (4) the RF combined with CWT exhibited the best performance than other methods in the current study (R2 = 0.97, RPD = 3.39, RMSE = 1.05 mg kg-1, MAE = 0.79 mg kg-1). The current study supplied a scientific scheme and theoretical support for predicting heavy metals concentrations via the Vis-NIR spectral method in possible contaminated areas such as coal mines and metallic mineral deposit areas.
RESUMO
Mesenchymal stem cells play an important role in tissue damage and repair. This role is mainly due to a paracrine mechanism, and extracellular vesicles (EVs) are an important part of the paracrine function. EVs play a vital role in many aspects of cell homeostasis, physiology, and pathology, and EVs can be used as clinical biomarkers, vaccines, or drug delivery vehicles. A large number of studies have shown that EVs derived from mesenchymal stem cells (MSC-EVs) play an important role in the treatment of various diseases. However, the problems of low production, low retention rate, and poor targeting of MSC-EVs are obstacles to current clinical applications. The engineering transformation of MSC-EVs can make up for those shortcomings, thereby improving treatment efficiency. This review summarizes the latest research progress of MSC-EV direct and indirect engineering transformation from the aspects of improving MSC-EV retention rate, yield, targeting, and MSC-EV visualization research, and proposes some feasible MSC-EV engineering methods of transformation.

At present, there are many constantly updated guidelines and consensuses on the diagnosis and treatment of osteoarthritis both at home and abroad. The recommendations established using methods of evidence-based medicine has experienced strict research on controlling bias and promoting reproduction rate. As a result, the previous evidence was reevaluated, and a lot of changes were provoked in the diagnosis and treatment concept of osteoarthritis. However, several methods not recommended by foreign guidelines are still in use in the current clinical practice in China. On the one hand, Chinese experts have not reached extensive consensus on whether it is necessary to make changes according to foreign guidelines. On the other hand, almost all the current relevant guidelines are on osteoarthritis, but the lesions around knee joints which, as a whole, bear the largest weight in human body, cannot be ignored. For this purpose, Chinese Association for the Study of Pain (CASP) organized some leading experts to formulate this Chinese Pain Specialist Consensus on the diagnosis and treatment of degenerative knee osteoarthritis (DKOA) in combination with the guidelines in foreign countries and the expert experience of clinical practice in China. The consensus, which includes the definition, pathophysiology, epidemiology, clinical manifestation, diagnostic criteria, and treatments of DKOA, is intended to be used by first-line doctors, including pain physicians to manage patients with DKOA.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy and adverse reaction of total glucosides of paeony (TGP) combined with sulfasalazine (SSZ) in the treatment of ankylosing spondylitis (AS). METHODS: Sixty-seven AS patients were randomly assigned to 2 groups: the treatment group (34 cases) treated with TGP and SSZ, the control group (33 cases) with methotrexate (MTX) and SSZ. Changes of clinical efficacy related indexes including lumber pain index, morning stiffness time, peripheral joint pain index, thoracic expansion, Schober test, Bath AS disease active index (BASDAI), Bath AS functional index (BASFI), the levels of erythrocyte sedimentation (ESR) and C-reactive protein (CRP), and X-ray of sacroiliac joint were observed. RESULTS: The clinical efficacy indexes were significantly improved after treatment in the two groups (P < 0.05). Except that the improvement of lumber pain index and peripheral joint pain index was better in the treatment group than that in the control group (P < 0.05), no significant difference was found in the other indexes between the two groups. The occurrence of adverse reation was less in the treatment group than in the control group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: TGP treatment combined with SSZ shows favorable effect on AS with less and milder adverse reaction.

OBJECTIVE: This meta-analysis aimed to illustrate the efficacy and safety of preganalin for pain management in patients with postherpetic neuralgia (PHN). METHODS: In July 2017, a systematic computer-based search was conducted in PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and Google database. Data on patients with PHN that compared pregabalin versus placebo were retrieved. The endpoints were the visual analog scale (VAS) at 8 weeks, the percentage of 30% and 50% pain responders; sleep interference score and improvement in patient global impression of change (PGIC). After testing for publication bias and heterogeneity between studies, data were aggregated for random-effects models when necessary. RESULTS: Seven clinical studies with 2192 patients (pregabalin groupâ=â1381, control groupâ=â811) were finally included in the meta-analysis. Pregabalin was associated with reduced pain scores at 8 weeks, corresponding to a reduction of 11.23 points (95% CI, -14.33, -8.13, Pâ=â.000) on a 100-point VAS. Pregabalin was also associated with a more percentage of 30% and 50% pain responders than controls (Pâ<â.05). Meanwhile, pregabalin can decrease sleep interference score and improvement in PGIC than control groups (Pâ<â.05). CONCLUSIONS: Pregabalin was efficacious in the reduction of postoperative pain and improvement the sleep quality in patients with PHN.

Late embryogenesis abundant (LEA) proteins are mainly low molecular weight (10-30 kDa) proteins, which are involved in protecting higher plants from damage caused by environmental stresses, especially drought (dehydration). These findings and the fact that the breeding of drought tolerant varieties would be of great value in agriculture, form the basis of search for anti-drought inducible genes and their characterization. LEA proteins are generally classified into six groups (families) according to their amino acid sequence and corresponding mRNA homology, which are basically localized in cytoplasm and nuclear region. LEA protein synthesis, expression and biological activities are regulated by many factors (e.g. developmental stages, hormones, ion change and dehydration), signal transduction pathways and lea genes. No tissue-specific lea gene expression has been considered as one main regulatory mechanism on the basis of extensive studies with the model plant, Arabidopsisthaliana. The study of the regulatory mechanism of lea gene expression is an important feature of modern plant molecular biology.
