RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To describe how different key stakeholders (ie, interprofessional clinical care team and patients) perceive their role in promoting in-hospital mobility by systematically synthesizing qualitative literature. DATA SOURCES: PubMed, Ovid MEDLINE, Ovid PsychInfo, and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health were searched using terms relevant to mobility, hospitalization, and qualitative research. A total of 510 unique articles were retrieved and screened for eligibility. STUDY SELECTION: Eligible qualitative studies included stakeholder perspectives on in-hospital mobility, including patients, nursing staff, rehabilitation staff, and physicians. Eleven articles remained after inclusion/exclusion criteria were applied. DATA EXTRACTION: At least 2 authors independently read, coded, and derived themes from each study. We used a team-based inductive approach to thematic synthesis informed by critical realism and the socioecological model. Reciprocal translation unified convergent and divergent constructs across primary studies. Investigator triangulation enhanced interpretation. DATA SYNTHESIS: Three primary themes emerged: (1) patient, family, and clinician expectations shape roles in in-hospital mobility; (2) stakeholders' role in mobility depends on hospital environment, infrastructure, culture, and resources; and (3) teamwork creates successful in-hospital mobility, but lack of coordination and cooperation leads to delay in mobilizing. Studies suggested that while mobility is an essential construct in the professional role of clinicians and in the personal identity of patients, the ability of stakeholders to realize their role in mobility is highly dependent on the hospital physical and cultural environment, administrative support, clarity in professional roles, and teamwork. CONCLUSIONS: Interventions designed to address the problem of low hospital mobility should take a systems approach and consider allocation of resources, clarity around professional responsibilities, and elevation of patient and clinician expectations surrounding mobility.

BACKGROUND: Students who enter nursing programs without adequate study skills may be shocked when they fail their first nursing examination or assignment. If they continue to struggle, they may fail to progress to graduation or may perform poorly on their licensure examinations. METHOD: Assignments based on self-regulated learning theory can help students develop control over their learning environment, establish effective study strategies, set goals, and prevent procrastination. RESULTS: Two assignments for students studying for a baccalaureate of science in nursing are presented as examples of activities that promote self-regulated behaviors: (1) Research Literature Search Assignment Strategies worksheet and (2) student-led examination reviews to prepare for an examination. Students' reactions to assignments are described. CONCLUSIONS: Integration of the principles of self-regulated learning can add value to active learning. Faculty with an understanding of self-regulated learning theory are better able to recognize student deficiencies and design assignments to help students succeed. [J Nurs Educ. 2024;63(X):XXX-XXX.].

The identification of new bovine male-specific DNA sequences is of great interest because the bovine Y chromosome remains poorly characterized in terms of physical and genetic maps. Since taurine and zebu Y chromosomes are structurally different, the identification of Y-specific sequences present in both sub-species is particularly important: these sequences are of evolutionary significance and can be broadly used for embryo sexing. In this work, we initially used the random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) technique to search for male-specific sequences present as monomorphic markers in genomic DNA from zebu and taurine bulls. A male-specific RAPD band was found to be present and highly conserved in both sub-species, as demonstrated by Southern blotting, fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) and DNA sequencing. In a previous work, a pair of primers derived from this marker was successfully used in taurine and zebu embryo sexing.
