RESUMO

Transition metals are excellent active sites to activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for water treatment, but the favorable electronic structures governing  reaction mechanism still remain elusive. Herein, the authors construct typical d-orbital configurations on iron octahedral (FeOh ) and tetrahedral (FeTd ) sites in spinel ZnFe2 O4 and FeAl2 O4 , respectively. ZnFe2 O4 (136.58 min-1 F-1 cm2 ) presented higher specific activity than FeAl2 O4 (97.47 min-1 F-1 cm2 ) for tetracycline removal by PMS activation. Considering orbital features of charge amount, spin state, and orbital arrangement by magnetic spectroscopic analysis, ZnFe2 O4 has a larger bond order to decompose PMS. Using this descriptor, high-spin FeOh is assumed to activate PMS mainly to produce nonradical reactive oxygen species (ROS) while high-spin FeTd prefers to induce radical species. This hypothesis is confirmed by the selective predominant ROS of 1 O2 on ZnFe2 O4 and O2 •- on FeAl2 O4 via quenching experiments. Electrochemical determinations reveal that FeOh has superior capability than FeTd for feasible valence transformation of iron cations and fast interfacial electron transfer. DFT calculations further suggest octahedral d-orbital configuration of ZnFe2 O4 is beneficial to enhancing Fe-O covalence for electron exchange. This work attempts to understand the d-orbital configuration-dependent PMS activation to design efficient catalysts.

RESUMO

Polarization sensitivity has been a major issue in Brillouin scattering-based optical fiber sensing systems. Randomization of the polarization state of the pump is one of the ways to circumvent the problem. However, there could exist a residual degree of polarization (DOP) for the pump after polarization randomization, and hence, a model to characterize the polarization evolution in Brillouin scattering with a partially polarized pump is essential for the performance evaluation. In this work, a comprehensive theoretical model to characterize the beam variation with the partially polarized pump wave and Stokes wave is proposed, which is based on a set of stochastic differential equations (SDEs). The polarized part of the pump wave and the Stokes wave, as well as the total powers of the waves, are incorporated in the coupled SDE simultaneously, which enables the comprehensive simulation of the polarization evolution in the fiber. It is revealed in the study that the DOPs of the pump wave and the Stokes wave affect the gain stability and should be reduced simultaneously by polarization scrambling to ensure a fixed Brillouin gain without fluctuations.

RESUMO

Mammogram-based classification is an important and effective way for computer-aided diagnosis (CAD)-based breast cancer diagnosis. In this paper, we present a novel discriminant fusing analysis (DFA)-based mammogram classification CAD-based breast cancer diagnosis. The discriminative breast tissue features are exacted and fused by DFA, and DFA achieves the optimal fusion coefficients. The largest class discriminant in the fused feature space is achieved by DFA for classification. Beside the detailed theory derivation, many experimental evaluations are implemented on Mammography Image Analysis Society mammogram database for breast cancer diagnosis.
