RESUMO

BACKGROUND: For patients with rotator cuff tear (RCT), the contra-lateral shoulders have higher risk of RCT than general population. It has been proved by several previous studies. The focus of this study is to obtain the data of contra-lateral rotator cuff tear in Chinese population, and to find the rules of contra-lateral rotator cuff tear through statistical analysis. METHODS: From March 2016 to January 2020, patients who underwent shoulder arthroscopic surgery were included in the study, we conduct bilateral shoulder ultrasound before surgery, patients information collection include gender, age, occupation and whether received contra-lateral rotator cuff surgery within 1-3 years. The above information was statistically analyzed. RESULTS: According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 401 patients were included. The incidence of contra-lateral rotator cuff tear was 24.3%, 5.58% of them underwent contra-lateral rotator cuff repair surgery within 3 years. The degree of contra-lateral rotator cuff tear was positively correlated with the degree of the primary side; Patients with full-thickness rotator cuff tear were more likely to have contra-lateral rotator cuff tear than patients with partial rotator cuff tear. For patients with supraspinatus tendon tear, the contra-lateral rotator cuff tear risk increases, For patients with subscapularis muscle tear, the contra-lateral rotator cuff tear risk doesn't increases. Contra-lateral rotator cuff tear is related to age, the risk of contra-lateral rotator cuff tear is higher in elderly patients. CONCLUSIONS: The contra-lateral RCT data obtained in our study was 24.3%, significantly lower than that of previous studies. The reasons may include ethnic variation, lifestyle, and proportion of heavy physical labor. The condition of contra-lateral rotator cuff is closely related to affected side rotator cuff tear.

RESUMO

Objective To explore the optimal administration route of tranexamic acid (TXA) in shoulder arthroscopic surgery. Methods Patients undergoing arthroscopic rotator cuff repair were randomly divided into four groups: control group (without TXA treatment), intravenous group (TXA was intravenously administered 10 minutes before surgery), irrigation group (TXA was added to the irrigation fluid during subacromial decompression and acromioplasty), and intravenous plus irrigation group (TXA was applied both intravenously and via intra-articular irrigation). The primary outcome was visual clarity assessed with visual analog scale (VAS) score, and the secondary outcomes included irrigation fluid consumption and time to subacromial decompression and acromioplasty procedure. Results There were 134 patients enrolled in the study, including 33 in the control group, 35 in the intravenous group, 32 in the irrigation group, and 34 in the intravenous plus irrigation group. The median and interquartile range of VAS scores for the intravenous, irrigation, and intravenous plus irrigation groups were 2.70 (2.50, 2.86) (Z = -3.677, P = 0.002), 2.67 (2.50, 2.77) (Z = -3.058, P < 0.001), and 2.91 (2.75, 3.00) (Z = -6.634, P < 0.001), respectively, significantly higher than that of the control group [2.44 (2.37, 2.53)]. Moreover, the control group consumed more irrigation fluid than the intravenous group, irrigation group, and intravenous plus irrigation group (all P < 0.05). The intravenous plus irrigation group consumed less irrigation fluid than either the intravenous group or the irrigation group (both P < 0.001). There was no difference in subacromial decompression and acromioplasty operative time among the four groups. Conclusion TXA applied both topically and systematically can improve intraoperative visual clarity, and the combined application is more effective.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: We attempt to investigate the role of TNFRSF1A and its underlying mechanism in oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation (OGD/R)-induced injury in rat pheochromocytoma PC12 cells. METHODS: Public datasets GSE61616 and GSE106680 were downloaded from GEO database. PC12 cells were used to construct OGD/R models. QRT-PCR and western blot were implemented to test the relative mRNA and protein levels, respectively. The miRNA online prediction website TargetScan was used to predict TNFRSF1A upstream regulated miRNAs, which were then confirmed by luciferase reporter assay. The changes in cell viability and apoptosis were evaluated using cell counting kit 8 (CCK-8), lactose dehydrogenase (LDH), and flow cytometry assays. RESULTS: Bioinformatics analysis demonstrated that the expression of TNFRSF1A was upregulated in CI/RI and middle cerebral artery occlusion models compared with control, respectively. And a significant upregulation was also observed in OGD/R-damaged PC12 cells. Depletion of TNFRSF1A can notably enhance the cells proliferation after OGD/R treatment, while enlargement of TNFRSF1A presented the opposite outcomes. Moreover, miR-29a-3p was shown to be the upstream regulatory miRNA of TNFRSF1A. The levels of TNFRSF1A were inversely mediated by miR-29a-3p. Overexpression of miR-29a-3p can raise the cell viability, decrease the LDH activity, and reduce the apoptotic ratio in OGD/R-treated cells. Besides, TNFRSF1A can attenuate the protective effect of miR-29a-3p on OGD/R-treated cells. Furthermore, miR-29a-3p mimic inhibited, while overexpression of TNFRSF1A promoted the activation of NF-κB signaling pathway, and TNFRSF1A can attenuate the suppressive effect of miR-29a-3p on the NF-κB pathway. CONCLUSION: Our research illustrated that the potential regulatory role of miR-29a-3p/TNFRSF1A axis in neurons cells suffered from OGD/R, and their effects on NF-κB signaling pathway, providing a possible bio-target for protecting cells from OGD/R damage .

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: To retrospectively analyze the tumor resection method used in 20 patients with clavicular tumors and evaluate its clinical efficacy. METHODS: A total of 9 patients with clavicular benign tumors underwent intracapsular resection, and 11 patients with clavicular malignant tumors underwent tumor resection from May 2012 to May 2017. Of the 11 patients, 5 underwent clavicular reconstruction using the plate-cement complex. Surgical efficacy was assessed using the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society, Constant-Murley, and American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons shoulder outcome scores preoperatively until 12 months postoperatively. RESULTS: The average duration of follow-up care was 33.7 (12-71) months. Of the 20 patients, 3 patients died, 3 survived with tumor recurrence or metastasis, and 14 survived with no tumor recurrence. Among the 5 patients who underwent resection of malignant clavicular tumors and reconstruction, 2 underwent a re-operation because of a loose screw and plate displacement. In the functional assessment of the shoulder joint, patients with benign and malignant clavicular tumors showed significantly higher scores postoperatively compared with preoperative scores. For malignant clavicular tumors, no significant improvement was observed when comparing the non-reconstruction and reconstruction groups. CONCLUSIONS: Surgery is an optimal treatment for clavicular tumors. In patients with benign clavicular tumors, simple intracapsular resection can achieve a satisfactory prognosis. Reconstruction of a clavicular defect after resection of a clavicular malignant tumor is not recommended.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Ischemic heart disease is a leading cause of death in cardiovascular diseases, and microRNAs (miRs) have been reported to be potential therapeutic targets in heart disease. Herein, this study aims to investigate the effects of microRNA (miR)-374 on myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury in rat models pretreated with sevoflurane by targeting SP1 through the PI3K/Akt pathway. METHODS: SD rats were grouped into sham, I/R and sevoflurane + I/R (sevoflurane preconditioning and I/R) groups. The biochemical indicators, pathological changes, positive expression of SP1 protein, and apoptosis rates were measured using biochemical detection, Evans blue-TTC staining, immunohistochemistry and TUNEL staining. RT-qPCR and Western blotting were used to investigate the expression of miR-374 mRNA and the protein expression of SP1, PI3K, HO-1, p53, iNOS, c-fos, Akt/p-Akt, and GSK-3ß/p-GSK-3ß. Cardiomyocytes were treated with miR-374 mimics, miR-374 inhibitors, or siRNA-SP1. Cardiomyocyte proliferation and cycle distribution and apoptosis were studied by MTT and flow cytometry. RESULTS: Compared with the I/R group, in the sevoflurane + I/R group, serum SOD and IL-10 increased, while MDA, LDH, CK, TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-10 decreased, as did the percentage of infarct area, the positive rate of SP1 and the apoptosis index. The expression of SP1, p53, iNOS and c-fos decreased, and the miR-374 expression of PI3K, HO-1, Akt/p-Akt, GSK-3ß/p-GSK-3ß increased. With the upregulation of miR-374 and the downregulation of SP1, the expression of SP1, p53, iNOS and c-fos decreased, as did the proportion of cells in G1 phase and the apoptosis rate; the expression of PI3K, HO-1, Akt/p-Akt, GSK-3ß/p-GSK-3ß increased. The results in the miR-374 inhibitor group contrasted with the above results. CONCLUSION: The results indicated that miR-374 could alleviate myocardial I/R damage in rat models pretreated with sevoflurane by targeting SP1 by activating the PI3K/Akt pathway.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) and glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor (GLP-1R) are crucial for heart development and for adult heart structural maintenance and function. Herein, we performed a study to explore the effect of lncRNA LINC00652 (LINC00652) on myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury by targeting GLP-1R through the cyclic adenosine monophosphate-protein kinase A (cAMP/PKA) pathway. METHODS: Bioinformatics software was used to screen the long-chain non-coding RNAs associated with myocardial ischemia-reperfusion and to predict target genes. The mRNA and protein levels of LINC00652, GLP-1R and CREB were detected by RT-qPCR and western blotting. In order to identify the interaction between LINC00652 and myocardial I/R injury, the cardiac function, the hemodynamic changes, the pathological changes of the myocardial tissues, the myocardial infarct size, and the apoptosis of myocardial cells of mice were measured. Meanwhile, the levels of serum IL-1ß and TNF-α were detected. RESULTS: LINC00652 was overexpressed in the myocardial cells of mice with myocardial I/R injury. GLP-1R is the target gene of LINC00652. We also determined higher levels of LINC00652 and GLP-1R in the I/R modeled mice. Additionally, si-LINC00652 decreased cardiac pathology, infarct size, apoptosis rates of myocardial cells, and levels of IL-1ß and TNF-α, and increased GLP-1R expression cardiac function, normal hemodynamic index, and the expression and phosphorylation of GLP-1R and CREB proteins. CONCLUSION: Taken together, our key findings of the present highlight LINC00652 inhibits the activation of the cAMP/PKA pathway by targeting GLP-1R to reduce the protective effect of sevoflurane on myocardial I/R injury in mice.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Tremendous efforts have been made to establish the concept of vascular restoration therapy with a fully bioresorbable scaffold for coronary artery disease. With an improved scaffold design and technologies, the novel NeoVas scaffold has shown promising clinical performance at 6 months follow-up. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate the 1 year clinical outcomes and multislice computed tomography (MSCT) angiographic results after implantation of the NeoVas scaffold in patients with single de novo coronary artery lesions. METHODS: The NeoVas first-in-man study was a prospective, two-center, single-arm study enrolling 31 patients who were eligible for the treatment. The composite endpoint of target lesion failure (TLF)-defined as cardiac death, target vessel myocardial infarction, and clinically indicated target lesion revascularization (TLR)-was assessed. Of the 31 patients scheduled for 1 year clinical follow-up, 29 patients received MSCT examinations. RESULTS: At 1 year follow-up, there was only 1 (3.2%) TLF, attributed to 1 patient who suffered ischemia-driven TLR at 181 days postprocedure. No cardiac deaths or scaffold thrombosis were observed. MSCT analysis demonstrated excellent vessel patency, with a median in-scaffold lumen area of 10.6 mm2 (interquartile range [IQR]: 8.2-11.7 mm2 ) and a minimal lumen diameter of 2.7 mm (IQR: 2.4-3.0 mm). CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrated the safety and efficacy of the NeoVas scaffold for patients with single de novo coronary artery lesions at 1 year of follow-up. Noninvasive MSCT data confirmed vessel patency and the maintenance of vessel dimensions following implantation of the NeoVas bioresorbable sirolimus-eluting scaffold.

RESUMO

Composition engineering of perovskite materials has been demonstrated to be important for high-performance solar cells. Recently, the energy favorable hybridization of formamidinium (FA) and cesium (Cs) in three dimension lead halide perovskites has been attracting increasing attention due to its potential benefit on durability. Herein, we reported a simple and effective method to produce phase-pure CsxFA1-xPbI3 thin film via sequential introduction of cations, in which the FA cation was introduced by interdiffusion annealing in the presence of N-methylimidazole (NMI). NMI was employed as an additive to slow down the crystallization and thus drive the formation of CsxFA1-xPbI3 with micrometer grain size, which probably facilitate the charge dissociation and transportation in photovoltaic devices. More importantly, composition dependent phase-segregation has been revealed and investigated for the first time during the phase-pure mixed-cation perovskites CsxFA1-xPbI3. The present findings demonstrated that suppressing phase-segregation of mixed-cation perovskites by meticulous composition engineering is significant for further development of efficient photovoltaics. It also suggested that phase-pure Cs0.15FA0.85PbI3 may be a promising candidate with superior phase-durability, which performed an efficiency over 16% in planar perovskite solar cells.

RESUMO

A Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, aerobic rods, strain YIC4121T, was isolated from root nodule of Sesbania cannabina grown in Dongying (Yellow River Delta), Shandong Province, PR China. Based on phylogenetic analysis of 16 S rRNA gene sequences, strain YIC4121T was assigned to the genus Agrobacterium with 99.7, 99.3, 99.0, 98.8 and 98.7% sequence similarities to Agrobacterium radiobacter LMG140T, A. pusense NRCPB10T, A. arsenijevicii KFB 330T, A. nepotum 39/7T and A. larrymoorei ATCC51759T. Analysis of the concatenated housekeeping genes (recA-atpD-glnII), showed lower sequence similarities (≤94.6%) between strain YIC4121T and other recognized Agrobacterium species. Strain YIC4121T shared whole-genome average nucleotide identities (ANI) 87.94, 91.27 and 77.42%, with A. pusense NRCPB10T, A. radiobacter LMG140T and A. larrymoorei ATCC51759T. The predominant cellular fatty acids were C19:0 cyclo ω8c, summed feature 2 (C12:0 aldehyde/unknown 10.9525), summed feature 8 (C18:1 ω7c/C18:1 ω6c), C16:0 3 OH and C16:0. The G + C content of strain YIC4121T was 59.80 mol%. Tween 80, lactulose, citric acid, α-ketoglutaric acid, glycyl-L-glutamic acid and 2, 3-butanediol could not be utilized as carbon source, distinguishing strain YIC4121T from the other related species. Based on the distinctly genetic and phenotypic dissimilarity, a novel species Agrobacterium deltaense sp. nov. is proposed with YIC4121T (=HAMBI 3654T = LMG 29283T) as the type strain.

RESUMO

One Gram-negative, aerobic, motile, rod-shaped bacterium, designated as FH14T, was isolated from nodules of Phaseolus vulgaris grown in Hidalgo State of Mexico. Results based upon 16S rRNA gene (≥99.8 % similarities to known species), concatenated sequence (recA, atpD and glnII) analysis of three housekeeping genes (≤93.4 % similarities to known species) and average nucleotide identity (ANI) values of genome sequence (ranged from 87.6 to 90.0 % to related species) indicated the distinct position of strain FH14T within the genus Rhizobium. In analyses of symbiotic genes, only nitrogen fixation gene nifH was amplified that had nucleotide sequence identical to those of the bean-nodulating strains in R. phaseoli and R. vallis, while nodulation gene nodC gene was not amplified. The failure of nodulation to its original host P. vulgaris and other legumes evidenced the loss of its nodulation capability. Strain FH14T contained summed feature 8 (C18:1 ω6c/C18:1 ω7c, 59.96 %), C16:0 (10.6 %) and summed feature 2 (C12:0 aldehyde/unknown 10.928, 10.24 %) as the major components of cellular fatty acids. Failure to utilize alaninamide, and utilizing L-alanine, L-asparagine and γ-amino butyric acid as carbon source, distinguished the strain FH14T from the type strains for the related species. The genome size and DNA G+C content of FH14T were 6.94 Mbp and 60.8 mol %, respectively. Based on those results, a novel specie in Rhizobium, named Rhizobium hidalgonense sp. nov., was proposed, with FH14T (=HAMBI 3636T = LMG 29288T) as the type strain.

RESUMO

Two Gram-staining-negative, aerobic bacteria (YIC 5082T and YIC4104) isolated from root nodules of Sesbania cannabina grown in a high-salt and alkaline environment were identified as a group in the genus Agrobacterium because they shared 100 and 99.7 % sequence similarities of 16S rRNA and recA+atpD genes, respectively. These two strains showed 99.2/100 % and 93.9/95.4 % 16S rRNA and recA+atpD gene sequence similarities to Agrobacterium radiobacter LMG140T and Agrobacterium. pusense NRCPB10T, respectively. The average nucleotide identities (ANI) of genome sequences were 89.95 % or lower between YIC 5082T and the species of the genus Agrobacterium examined. Moreover, these two test strains formed a unique nifH lineage deeply separated from other rhizobia. Although the nodC gene was not detected in YIC 5082T and YIC4104, they could form effective root nodules on S. cannabina plants. The main cellular fatty acids in YIC 5082T were summed feature 8 (C18 : 1ω7c/C18 : 1ω6c), C19 : 0cyclo ω8c, summed feature 2 (C12 : 0 aldehyde/unknown equivalent chain length 10.9525) and C16 : 0. The DNA G+C content of YIC 5082T was 59.3 mol%. The failure to utilize d-sorbitol as a carbon source distinguished YIC 5082T from the type strains of related species. YIC 5082T could grow in presence of 5.0 % (w/v) NaCl and at a pH of up to 10.0. Based on results regarding the genetic and phenotypic properties of YIC 5082T and YIC4104 the name Agrobacterium salinitolerans sp. nov. is proposed and YIC 5082T (=HAMBI 3646T=LMG 29287T) is designed as the type strain.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical outcomes influenced by distal extension of false lumen in acute type B aortic dissection (TBAD) patients following thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR). METHODS: From April 2002 to January 2013, 264 TBAD patients treated with TEVAR were retrospectively enrolled. The IIIa group exhibited a distal false lumen above the diaphragm (n = 70), and the IIIb group exhibited a distal false lumen under the diaphragm (n = 194). The morphological characteristics and adverse events (30-day and >30 days) were recorded and evaluated. RESULTS: There were no significant differences between the two groups regarding the demographics, comorbidity profiles, or initial feature of computed tomography angiography. The incidence of true lumen compression and branch involvement were significantly increased in the IIIb group compared with the IIIa group (8.6% vs. 25.3%, respectively; 15.7% vs. 36.1%, respectively, both P < 0.05). The 30-day mortality rate was 1.0% (2/194) in the IIIb group, whereas the IIIa group was zero. The incidence of early adverse events, the 5-year cumulative freedom from adverse events, and the 5-year cumulative freedom from all-cause mortality rate were not significantly different between the IIIa and IIIb groups (2.9% vs. 6.7%, 81.4%, and 80.4%, and 95.7% vs. 93.8%, respectively, all P > 0.05). Log-rank tests also indicated there was no significant difference. CONCLUSIONS: There was no significant difference between the IIIa and IIIb groups in the 5-year morality and adverse aortic events following TEVAR. RESUMO

Combining stretchability and self-healing properties in a man-made material is a challenging task. For an efficient self-healing material, weaker dynamic or reversible bonds should be presented as crosslinks so that they will first break upon damage and then reform after healing, which is not favorable when developing elastic materials. In this work, by incorporating dynamic Fe(III)-triazole coordination bonds into polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) backbone, a highly elastic polymer is obtained that can be thermally healed at mild temperature. The as-prepared polymer can be stretched to 3400% strain at low loading speed (1 mm min(-1) ). When damaged, the polymer can be thermally healed at 60 °C for 20 h with a healing efficiency of over 90%. The good mechanical and healable properties of this polymer can be ascribed to the unique coordination bond strength and coordination conformation of Fe(III)-triazole coordination complex.

RESUMO

A new self-healing polymer has been obtained by incorporating a cyclometalated platinum(II) complex Pt(C∧ N∧ N)Cl (C∧ N∧ N = 6-phenyl-2,2'-bipyridyl) into a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) backbone. The molecular interactions (a combination of Pt···Pt and π-π interactions) between cyclometalated platinum(II) complexes are strong enough to crosslink the linear PDMS polymer chains into an elastic film. The as prepared polymer can be stretched to over 20 times of its original length. When damaged, the polymer can be healed at room temperature without any healants or external stimuli. Moreover, the self-healing is insensitive to surface aging. This work represents the first example where the attractive metallophilic inter-actions are utilized to design self-healing materials. Moreover, our results suggest that the stretchability and self-healing properties can be obtained simultaneously without any conflict by optimizing the strength of crosslinking interactions.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Soil organic carbon (SOC) is fundamental for mitigating climate change as well as improving soil fertility. Databases of SOC obtained from soil surveys in 1981 and 2011 were used to assess SOC change (0-20 cm) in croplands of Heilongjiang Province in northeast China. Three counties (Lindian, Hailun and Baoqing) were selected as typical croplands representing major soil types and land use types in the region. RESULTS: The changes in SOC density (SOCD) between 1981 and 2001 were -6.6, -14.7 and 5.7 Mg C ha(-1) in Lindian, Hailun and Baoqing Counties respectively. The total SOC storage (SOCS) changes were estimated to be -11.3, -19.1 and 16.5% of those in 1981 in the respective counties. The results showed 22-550% increases in SOCS in rice (Oryza sativa L.) paddies in the three counties, but 28-33% decreases in dry cropland in Lindian and Hailun Counties. In addition, an increase of 11.4 Mg C ha(-1) in SOCD was observed in state-owned farms (P < 0.05), whereas no significant change was observed in family-owned farms. CONCLUSION: Soil C:N ratio and initial SOCD related to soil groups were important determinants of SOCD changes. Land use and residue returning greatly affected SOC changes in the study region. To increase the topsoil SOCD, the results suggest the conversion of dry croplands to rice paddies and returning of crop residue to soils.

RESUMO

The geometry and the electronic structure of chiral lanthanide(III) complexes are traditionally probed by electronic methods, such as circularly polarised luminescence (CPL) and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectroscopy. The vibrational phenomena are much weaker. In the present study, however, significant enhancements of vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) and Raman optical activity (ROA) spectral intensities were observed during the formation of a chiral bipyridine-Eu(III) complex. The ten-fold enhancement of the vibrational absorption and VCD intensities was explained by a charge-transfer process and the dominant effect of the nitrate ion on the spectra. A much larger enhancement of the ROA and Raman intensities and a hundred-fold increase of the circular intensity difference (CID) ratio were explained by the resonance of the λ = 532 nm laser light with the (7)F0 → (5)D0 transitions. This phenomenon is combined with a chirality transfer, and mixing of the Raman and luminescence effects involving low-energy (7)F states of europium. The results thus indicate that the vibrational optical activity (VOA) may be a very sensitive tool for chirality detection and probing of the electronic structure of Eu(III) and other coordination compounds.

RESUMO

A series of chiral cyclometalated platinum(II) complexes, [Pt((-)-L1)(Dmpi)]Cl ((-)-1), [Pt((+)-L1)(Dmpi)]Cl ((+)-1), [Pt((-)-L2)(Dmpi)]Cl ((-)-2), [Pt((+)-L2)(Dmpi)]Cl ((+)-2), [Pt3((-)-L2)2(Dmpi)4](ClO4)4 ((-)-3), and [Pt3((+)-L2)2(Dmpi)4](ClO4)4 ((+)-3) [(-)-L1 = (-)-4,5-pinene-6'-phenyl-2,2'-bipyridine, (+)-L1 = (+)-4,5-pinene-6'-phenyl-2,2'-bipyridine), (-)-L2 = (-)-1,3-bis(2-(4,5-pinene)pyridyl)benzene, (+)-L2 = (+)-1,3-bis(2-(4,5-pinene)pyridyl)benzene, Dmpi = 2,6-dimethylphenyl isocyanide], have been designed and synthesized. In aqueous solutions, (-)-1 and (+)-1 aggregate into one-dimensional helical chain structures through Pt···Pt, π-π, and hydrophobic-hydrophobic interactions. (-)-3 and (+)-3 represent a novel helical structure with Pt-Pt bonds. The formation of helical structures results in enhanced and distinct chiroptical properties as evidenced by circular dichroism spectra. Circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) was observed from the aggregates of (-)-1 and (+)-1 in water, as well as (-)-3 and (+)-3 in dichloromethane. The CPL activity can be switched reversibly (for (-)-1 and (+)-1) or irreversibly (for (-)-3 and (+)-3) by varying the temperature.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: This is a meta-analysis to compare the results between anterior cervical discectomy fusion (ACDF) and anterior cervical corpectomy fusion (ACCF) for the patients with multilevel cervical spondylotic myelopathy (MCSM). METHODS: Systematic review and meta-analysis of cohort studies between ACDF with plate fixation and ACCF with plate fixation for the treatment of MCSM. An extensive search of literature was performed in PubMed, Mediline, Embase and the Cochrane library. The following outcome measures were extracted: JOA scores, fusion rate, cervical lordosis (C2-7), complications, blood loss and operation time. Data analysis was conducted with RevMan 5.0. RESULTS: Four cohorts (six studies) involving 258 patients were included in this study. The pooled analysis showed that there was no significant difference in the postoperative JOA score [WMD = -0.14 (-1.37, 1.10), P = 0.83], fusion rate [OR = 0.84 (0.15, 4.86), P = 0.85] between two group. However, there was significant difference in the cervical lordosis [WMD = 3.38 (2.52, 4.23), P < 0.00001], surgical complication rate and instrument related complication rate (P = 0.01, 0.005 respectively), blood loss [WMD = -52.53 (-73.53, -31.52), P < 0.00001], and operation time [WMD = -14.10 (-20.27, -7.93), P < 0.00001]. CONCLUSIONS: As compared with ACCF with plate fixation, ACDF with plate fixation showed no significant differences in terms of postoperative JOA score, fusion rate, but better improved cervical lordosis, lower complication and smaller surgical trauma. As the limitations of small sample and short follow-up in this study, it still could not be identified whether ACDF with plate fixation is more effective and safer than ACCF with plate fixation.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To compare the results between unilateral and bilateral pedicle screw (PS) fixation for the patients with degenerative lumbar diseases. METHODS: A systematic review and meta-analysis of cohort studies were conducted between unilateral PS fixation with cage fusion (unilateral group) and bilateral PS fixation with cage fusion (bilateral group) for the treatment of degenerative lumbar diseases from 1990 to June 2014. An extensive search of studies was performed in PubMed, Mediline, Embase and the Cochrane library. The following outcome measures were extracted: visual analogue scale (VAS), Oswestry disability index (ODI), Short-Form health survey (SF-36), fusion rate, complications, blood loss and operation time. Data analysis was conducted with RevMan 5.0. RESULTS: Eight RCTs involving 545 patients were included in this meta-analysis. The pooled analysis showed that there was no statistically significant difference in terms of the VAS, ODI and SF-36 scores, fusion rate [OR = 0.49 (0.23, 1.04), P = 0.06], complication rate(implant-related complication: P = 0.35, general complication rate: P = 0.71) and blood loss between two groups. However, there was less operation time in the unilateral group compared with bilateral group. Four patients (1.48 %) in unilateral group and one patient (0.36 %) in bilateral group were found cage migration, the difference did not achieve statistical significance (P = 0.213). CONCLUSIONS: As compared to bilateral PS fixation with cage fusion, unilateral PS fixation with cage fusion achieves a similar VAS, ODI and SF-36 scores, fusion rate, complications and smaller surgical trauma. However, it is still uncertain whether unilateral pedicle screw fixation with cage fusion is as effective and safe as bilateral pedicle screw fixation with cage fusion.

RESUMO

Novel aza-diisoindolylmethene and their BF2 -chelating complexes (benzo-fused aza-BODIPYs) were synthesized on a large scale and in a facile manner from phthalonitrile in tBuOK-DMF solution. The unique asymmetric donor-π-acceptor structure facilitates B-N bond detachment in the presence of trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) in dichloromethane, resulting in sharp color change from red to colorless, with over 250 nm hypsochromic shift in the absorption maximum. This colorimetric process can be reversed by adding a very small amount of proton-accepting solvents or compounds. A (1) H and (11) B NMR spectroscopy study and also density functional theory (DFT) calculations suggest that TFA-induced B-N bond cleavage may disrupt the whole π-conjugation of the BODIPY molecule, resulting in significant colorimetric behavior.
