RESUMO

The NCCN Guidelines for Merkel Cell Carcinoma (MCC) provide recommendations for diagnostic workup, clinical stage, and treatment options for patients. The panel meets annually to discuss updates to the guidelines based on comments from expert review from panel members, institutional review, as well as submissions from within NCCN and external organizations. These NCCN Guidelines Insights focus on the introduction of a new page for locally advanced disease in the setting of clinical node negative status, entitled "Clinical N0 Disease, Locally Advanced MCC." This new algorithm page addresses locally advanced disease, and the panel clarifies the meaning behind the term "nonsurgical" by further defining locally advanced disease. In addition, the guideline includes the management of in-transit disease and updates to the systemic therapy options.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) is a promising treatment modality for melanoma in situ (MIS). However, variations in surgical technique limit the generalizability of existing data and may impede future study of MMS in clinical trials. METHODS: A modified Delphi method was selected to establish consensus on optimal MMS techniques for treating MIS in future clinical trials. The Delphi method was selected due to the limited current data, the wide range of techniques used in the field, and the intention to establish a standardized technique for future clinical trials. A literature review and interviews with experienced MMS surgeons were performed to identify dimensions of the MMS technique for MIS that (1) likely impacted costs or outcomes of the procedure, and (2) showed significant variability between surgeons. A total of 8 dimensions of technical variation were selected. The Delphi process consisted of 2 rounds of voting and commentary, during which 44 expert Mohs surgeons across the United States rated their agreement with specific recommendations using a Likert scale. RESULTS: Five of eight recommendations achieved consensus in Round 1. All 3 of the remaining recommendations achieved consensus in Round 2. Techniques achieving consensus in Round 1 included the use of a starting peripheral margin of ≤5 mm, application of immunohistochemistry, frozen tissue processing, and resecting to the depth of subcutaneous fat. Consensus on the use of Wood's lamp, dermatoscope, and negative tissue controls was established in Round 2. CONCLUSIONS: This study generated 8 consensus recommendations intended to offer guidance for Mohs surgeons treating MIS. The adoption of these recommendations will promote standardization to facilitate comparisons of aggregate data in multicenter clinical trials.

RESUMO

Solid-state hydrogen storage technology has emerged as a disruptive solution to the "last mile" challenge in large-scale hydrogen energy applications, garnering significant global research attention. This paper systematically reviews the Chinese research progress in solid-state hydrogen storage material systems, thermodynamic mechanisms, and system integration. It also quantitatively assesses the market potential of solid-state hydrogen storage across four major application scenarios: on-board hydrogen storage, hydrogen refueling stations, backup power supplies, and power grid peak shaving. Furthermore, it analyzes the bottlenecks and challenges in industrialization related to key materials, testing standards, and innovation platforms. While acknowledging that the cost and performance of solid-state hydrogen storage are not yet fully competitive, the paper highlights its unique advantages of high safety, energy density, and potentially lower costs, showing promise in new energy vehicles and distributed energy fields. Breakthroughs in new hydrogen storage materials like magnesium-based and vanadium-based materials, coupled with improved standards, specifications, and innovation mechanisms, are expected to propel solid-state hydrogen storage into a mainstream technology within 10-15 years, with a market scale exceeding USD 14.3 billion. To accelerate the leapfrog development of China's solid-state hydrogen storage industry, increased investment in basic research, focused efforts on key core technologies, and streamlining the industry chain from materials to systems are recommended. This includes addressing challenges in passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, and hydrogen refueling stations, and building a collaborative innovation ecosystem involving government, industry, academia, research, finance, and intermediary entities to support the achievement of carbon peak and neutrality goals and foster a clean, low-carbon, safe, and efficient modern energy system.

RESUMO

Magnesium-based hydrogen storage materials have garnered significant attention due to their high hydrogen storage capacity, abundance, and low cost. However, the slow kinetics and high desorption temperature of magnesium hydride hinder its practical application. Various preparation methods have been developed to improve the hydrogen storage properties of magnesium-based materials. This review comprehensively summarizes the recent advances in the preparation methods of magnesium-based hydrogen storage materials, including mechanical ball milling, methanol-wrapped chemical vapor deposition, plasma-assisted ball milling, organic ligand-assisted synthesis, and other emerging methods. The principles, processes, key parameters, and modification strategies of each method are discussed in detail, along with representative research cases. Furthermore, the advantages and disadvantages of different preparation methods are compared and evaluated, and their influence on hydrogen storage properties is analyzed. The practical application potential of these methods is also assessed, considering factors such as hydrogen storage performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness. Finally, the existing challenges and future research directions in this field are outlined, emphasizing the need for further development of high-performance and cost-effective magnesium-based hydrogen storage materials for clean energy applications. This review provides valuable insights and references for researchers working on the development of advanced magnesium-based hydrogen storage technologies.

RESUMO

Magnesium-based hydrogen storage alloys have attracted significant attention as promising materials for solid-state hydrogen storage due to their high hydrogen storage capacity, abundant reserves, low cost, and reversibility. However, the widespread application of these alloys is hindered by several challenges, including slow hydrogen absorption/desorption kinetics, high thermodynamic stability of magnesium hydride, and limited cycle life. This comprehensive review provides an in-depth overview of the recent advances in magnesium-based hydrogen storage alloys, covering their fundamental properties, synthesis methods, modification strategies, hydrogen storage performance, and potential applications. The review discusses the thermodynamic and kinetic properties of magnesium-based alloys, as well as the effects of alloying, nanostructuring, and surface modification on their hydrogen storage performance. The hydrogen absorption/desorption properties of different magnesium-based alloy systems are compared, and the influence of various modification strategies on these properties is examined. The review also explores the potential applications of magnesium-based hydrogen storage alloys, including mobile and stationary hydrogen storage, rechargeable batteries, and thermal energy storage. Finally, the current challenges and future research directions in this field are discussed, highlighting the need for fundamental understanding of hydrogen storage mechanisms, development of novel alloy compositions, optimization of modification strategies, integration of magnesium-based alloys into hydrogen storage systems, and collaboration between academia and industry.

RESUMO

We investigate the application of Fano resonance in microcylinder cavities for laser frequency stabilization. By combining Fano resonance and the differential subtraction method, we successfully reproduce the error signal of the traditional Pound-Drever-Hall (PDH) technique. The frequency noise of the laser, when locked to both microsphere and microcylinder cavities, approaches the thermal noise limit. The microcylinder cavity, with a high Q factor of ∼108, benefiting from its large mode volume, exhibits a significant reduction in frequency noise by one order of magnitude compared with a microsphere in the frequency range of 0.1 to 10 kHz, achieving a minimum noise of ∼2.25 Hz2/Hz at 10 kHz. As this approach eliminates the need for additional electronic circuits typically used in the PDH technique, it holds promise as a cost-effective and reliable solution for laser frequency stabilization.

RESUMO

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common form of skin cancer in the United States. Due to the high frequency, BCC occurrences are not typically recorded, and annual rates of incidence can only be estimated. Current estimated rates are 2 million Americans affected annually, and this continues to rise. Exposure to radiation, from either sunlight or previous medical therapy, is a key player in BCC development. BCC is not as aggressive as other skin cancers because it is less likely to metastasize. However, surgery and radiation are prevalent treatment options, therefore disfigurement and limitation of function are significant considerations. The NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology (NCCN Guidelines) outline an updated risk stratification and treatment options available for BCC.

RESUMO

Superparamagnetic magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs, Fe3O4) were first synthesized based on a chemical co-precipitation method, and the core-shell magnetic silica nanoparticles (MSNPs, Fe3O4@SiO2) were obtained via hydrolysis and the condensation of tetraethyl orthosilicate onto Fe3O4 seed using a sol-gel process. Following that, MSNPs were immobilized using a three-step grafting strategy, where 8-hloroacetyl-aminoquinoline (CAAQ) was employed as a metal ion affinity ligand for trapping specific heavy metal ions, and a macromolecular polymer (polyethylenimine (PEI)) was selected as a bridge between the surface hydroxyl group and CAAQ to fabricate a network of organic networks onto the MSNPs' surface. The as-synthesized MSNPs-CAAQ nanocomposites possessed abundant active functional groups and thus contained excellent removal features for heavy metal ions. Specifically, the maximum adsorption capacities at room temperature and without adjusting pH were 324.7, 306.8, and 293.3 mg/g for Fe3+, Cu2+, and Cr3+ ions, respectively, according to Langmuir linear fitting. The adsorption-desorption experiment results indicated that Na2EDTA proved to be more suitable as a desorbing agent for Cr3+ desorption on the MSNPs-CAAQ surface than HCl and HNO3. MSNPs-CAAQ exhibited a satisfactory adsorption capacity toward Cr3+ ions even after six consecutive adsorption-desorption cycles; the adsorption efficiency for Cr3+ ions was still 88.8% with 0.1 mol/L Na2EDTA as the desorbing agent. Furthermore, the MSNPs-CAAQ nanosorbent displayed a strong magnetic response with a saturated magnetization of 24.0 emu/g, and they could be easily separated from the aqueous medium under the attraction of a magnet, which could facilitate the sustainable removal of Cr3+ ions in practical applications.

RESUMO

CeO2 is an important rare earth (RE) oxide and has served as a typical oxygen storage material in practical applications. In the present study, the oxygen storage capacity (OSC) of CeO2 was enhanced by doping with other rare earth ions (RE, RE = Yb, Y, Sm and La). A series of Undoped and RE-doped CeO2 with different doping levels were synthesized using a solvothermal method following a subsequent calcination process, in which just Ce(NO3)3∙6H2O, RE(NO3)3∙nH2O, ethylene glycol and water were used as raw materials. Surprisingly, the Undoped CeO2 was proved to be a porous material with a multilayered special morphology without any additional templates in this work. The lattice parameters of CeO2 were refined by the least-squares method with highly pure NaCl as the internal standard for peak position calibrations, and the solubility limits of RE ions into CeO2 were determined; the amounts of reducible-reoxidizable Cen+ ions were estimated by fitting the Ce 3d core-levels XPS spectra; the non-stoichiometric oxygen vacancy (VO) defects of CeO2 were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively by O 1s XPS fitting and Raman scattering; and the OSC was quantified by the amount of H2 consumption per gram of CeO2 based on hydrogen temperature programmed reduction (H2-TPR) measurements. The maximum [OSC] of CeO2 appeared at 5 mol.% Yb-, 4 mol.% Y-, 4 mol.% Sm- and 7 mol.% La-doping with the values of 0.444, 0.387, 0.352 and 0.380 mmol H2/g by an increase of 93.04, 68.26, 53.04 and 65.22%. Moreover, the dominant factor for promoting the OSC of RE-doped CeO2 was analyzed.

RESUMO

In this research, enrichment factor (EF) and pollution load index were utilized to explore the contamination characteristics of toxic elements (TEs) in park dust. The results exhibited that park dust in the study area was mainly moderately polluted, and the EF values of dust Cd, Zn, Pb, Cu and Sb were all > 1. The concentrations of Cr, Cu, Zn and Pb increased with the decrease of dust particle size. The investigation results of chemical speciation and bioavailability of TEs showed that Zn had the highest bioavailability. Three sources of TEs were determined by positive matrix factorization model, Pearson correlation analysis and geostatistical analysis, comprising factor 1 mixed sources of industrial and transportation activities (46.62%), factor 2 natural source (25.56%) and factor 3 mixed source of agricultural activities and the aging of park infrastructures (27.82%). Potential ecological risk (PER) and human health risk (HHR) models based on source apportionment were exploited to estimate PER and HHR of TEs from different sources. The mean PER value of TEs in the park dust was 114, indicating that ecological risk in the study area was relatively high. Factor 1 contributed the most to PER, and the pollution of Cd was the most serious. There were no significant carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risks for children and adults in the study area. And factor 3 was the biggest source of non-carcinogenic risk, and As, Cr and Pb were the chief contributor to non-carcinogenic risk. The primary source of carcinogenic risk was factor 2, and Cr was the cardinal cancer risk element.

RESUMO

KEY POINTS: Several distinct strategies produce and conserve heat to maintain the body temperature of mammals, each associated with unique physiologies, with consequences for wellness and disease susceptibility Highly regulated properties of skin offset the total requirement for heat production  We hypothesize that the adipose component of skin is primarily responsible for modulating heat flux; here we evaluate the relative regulation of adipose depots in mouse and human, to test their recruitment to heat production and conservation We found that insulating mouse dermal white adipose tissue accumulates in response to environmentally and genetically induced cool stress; this layer is one of two adipose depots closely apposed to mouse skin, where the subcutaneous mammary gland fat pads are actively recruited to heat production In contrast, the body-wide adipose depot associated with human skin produces heat directly, potentially creating an alternative to the centrally regulated brown adipose tissue ABSTRACT: Mammalian skin impacts metabolic efficiency system-wide, controlling the rate of heat loss and consequent heat production. Here we compare the unique fat depots associated with mouse and human skin, to determine whether they have corresponding functions and regulation. For humans, we assay a skin-associated fat (SAF) body-wide depot to distinguish it from the subcutaneous fat pads characteristic of the abdomen and upper limbs. We show that the thickness of SAF is not related to general adiposity; it is much thicker (1.6-fold) in women than men, and highly subject-specific. We used molecular and cellular assays of ß-adrenergic-induced lipolysis and found that dermal white adipose tissue (dWAT) in mice is resistant to lipolysis; in contrast, the body-wide human SAF depot becomes lipolytic, generating heat in response to ß-adrenergic stimulation. In mice challenged to make more heat to maintain body temperature (either environmentally or genetically), there is a compensatory increase in thickness of dWAT: a corresponding ß-adrenergic stimulation of human skin adipose (in vivo or in explant) depletes adipocyte lipid content. We summarize the regulation of skin-associated adipocytes by age, sex and adiposity, for both species. We conclude that the body-wide dWAT depot of mice shows unique regulation that enables it to be deployed for heat preservation; combined with the actively lipolytic subcutaneous mammary fat pads they enable thermal defence. The adipose tissue that covers human subjects produces heat directly, providing an alternative to the brown adipose tissues.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Cutaneous melanoma survivors are at increased risk of a second primary melanoma. Valid estimates facilitate counseling on recommended surveillance after a melanoma diagnosis. However, most estimates of 5- and 10-year incidences of second melanomas are from older cohorts and/or single institutions. This study aimed to determine the 5- and 10-year incidences of second primary cutaneous melanomas in survivors of cutaneous melanoma. METHODS: The Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database was used to identify cases of non-metastatic, first cutaneous melanoma diagnosed between 1998 and 2012 (follow-up through December 2017). Eligible survivors were 18 years old or older who underwent surgery as a treatment component. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was used to estimate 5- and 10-year incidences of a second melanoma, excluding new diagnoses within 3 months after the initial diagnosis. Patients were censored at second melanoma diagnosis, death, or 10-years, whichever was first. Multivariable Cox regression analysis was used to identify factors associated with a second cutaneous melanoma diagnosis. RESULTS: The study cohort comprised 152,811 patients. The incidence of second primary melanoma was 3.9% at 5 years (95% confidence interval [CI], 3.8-4.0%) and 6.7% at 10 years (95% CI, 6.6-6.9%). Older age, male sex, and regional disease were associated with increased risk of a second primary melanoma diagnosis. CONCLUSION: Melanoma survivors are at risk of a second primary melanoma, making routine skin surveillance part of recommended follow-up evaluation. A higher incidence of second melanoma with older age and regional disease at presentation is possibly explained by increased health care use providing more diagnostic opportunities, whereas male sex may represent an inherent risk factor.

RESUMO

Non-ferrous metal smelting activities have always been considered as one of the foremost anthropogenic sources of potentially toxic elements (PTEs). The enrichment factor (EF) and pollution load index (PLI) were used to evaluate the pollution level of soil PTEs; positive matrix factorization (PMF), correlation analysis, and geostatistics were utilized to quantify the sources of soil PTEs; and potential ecological risk (PER) and human health risk (HHR) of different sources from farmland, construction land, and natural land were quantifiably determined via combined PTE sources with PER and HHR assessment models. Taking the smelting area of Daye City as an example, the evaluation results of EF and PLI showed that the soil PTE pollution in the study area was serious, especially Cd and Cu. And four sources were quantitatively allocated as agricultural practices (12.14%), traffic emissions (23.07%), natural sources (33.46%), and industrial activities (31.33%). For PER, industrial activities were the largest contributor to PER, accounting for 55.66%, 56.30%, and 55.36% of farmland, construction land, and natural land, respectively, and Cd was the most dangerous element. In terms of HHR, industrial activities were also the cardinal contributors under the three land use types. Children were exposed to serious non-carcinogenic risks under three land use patterns and slight carcinogenic risk in construction land (1.06E - 04). Significantly, the carcinogenic risk of children in farmland (9.06 × 10-5) was very close to the threshold (1 × 10-4), which requires attention. Both non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic risk for adults were all at acceptable levels. The health risks (carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risks) of children from four different sources were distinctly higher than those of adults. Consequently, strict management and control of industrial activities should be given priority, and the management of agricultural practices should not be ignored.

RESUMO

Decapitation and root cutting can influence plant physiological features, such as height, dry weight, and transpiration rate, which partly determine the success of phytoremediation. In this study, the effects of three root cutting intensities (10%, 25%, and 33%), decapitation, and their combination on the phytoremediation efficiency of Celosia argentea were evaluated. Decapitation increased the biomass yield of C. argentea roots and leaves and significantly improved the species' Cd decontamination ability. Root cutting, especially 33% cutting treatment, decreased the root dry weight. The 10% and 25% root cutting treatments increased the leaf biomass yield by 58.6% and 41.4%, respectively, compared with the untreated control, even compensating for the loss of roots, but 33% root cutting decreased the leaf dry weight. Low and moderate root cutting intensity (10% and 25%) increased the leaf Cd content by 33.4% and 24.9%, respectively, and was associated with improved transpiration rate. The highest root and leaf dry weights were observed for the combination of decapitation and 10% root cutting, which increased the biomass yield of underground and aerial parts by 109.9% and 286.2%, respectively. In addition, decapitation offset the negative effects of 33% root cutting on plant growth, indicated by the higher dry weight relative to the control. Decapitated C. argentea accumulated 11.0, 7.5, and 0.7 times more Cd with the 10%, 25%, and 33% root cutting treatments, respectively, compared with the control. The combination of root cutting and decapitation was a practicable and economical method of enhancing the Cd decontamination capacity of C. argentea.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: There are too few board-certified dermatologists to treat all patients with skin disease. Primary care physicians often serve at the frontline of skin cancer screening. OBJECTIVE: To compare biopsy use among dermatologist physicians, dermatology advanced practice professionals (APPs), primary care physicians (PCPs), and other nondermatology clinicians. METHODS: Pathology reports, requisition forms, and clinical notes of skin biopsies submitted to our institution during the study period were reviewed. Skin biopsies for inflammatory conditions, cosmetic or functional purposes, and re-excisions were excluded. The number needed to biopsy (NNB) was calculated as the number of biopsied lesions divided by histologically proven skin cancers. RESULTS: The NNB by clinician type was 2.82 for dermatology physicians, 4.69 for APPs, 4.55 for nondermatology PCPs, and 6.55 for other nondermatology clinicians (P < .001). The NNB was significant between clinician groups for nonmelanoma skin cancer (dermatology physicians, 2.00; APPs, 2.71; PCPs, 2.36; and other nondermatology clinicians, 3.47; P < .001) but not for melanoma (dermatology clinicians, 14.33; APPs, 20.78; PCPs, 27.80; and other nondermatology clinicians, 53.56; P = .061). LIMITATIONS: The NNB represents a measure of use but gives no insight into the number of malignant lesions that go unbiopsied and, therefore, undiagnosed. The prevalence of skin cancer varies among dermatology and nondermatology practices. The results are not generalizable to all practice settings. CONCLUSIONS: Dermatology physicians had the lowest NNB of all clinician groups. PCPs performed similarly to dermatology APPs.

RESUMO

Riemerella anatipestifer is responsible for an economically important disease of commercially raised ducks. No or only few cross-protection was observed between different serotypes of R. anatipestifer strains, and so far no protective antigen in this bacterium has been identified. OmpA is a predominant immunogenic protein of R. anatipestifer, and within the 1467 bp ompA ORF (ompA1467), there is another 1164 bp ORF (ompA1164) with the same C-terminal. In this study, our results showed that the full sequence of ompA1467 from some R. anatipestifer strains with different serotypes shared the same amino acid sequence. Animal experiments showed that the soluble recombinant protein rOmpA1164, but not rOmpA1467, could provide partial protective immunity against challenge. Moreover, there was no significant difference in protective immunity between ducklings immunized with Th4△ompA bacterin and those immunized with Th4 bacterin. In addition, OmpA1467 was the main existing form of OmpA in R. anatipestifer cells by gel electrophoresis and western blot analyses. The results suggested that OmpA1467 was not a protective antigen of R. anatipestifer, and antibodies against proteins other than OmpA play a critical role in the process of anti-R. anatipestifer infection.

RESUMO

An Escherichia coli strain isolated from the feces of swine at a pork slaughterhouse in Henan province China was found to possess two colistin-resistance genes, mcr-1 and mcr-3, plus 16 additional resistance genes. Genes mcr-1.1 and mcr-3.1 were identified on IncHI2 and IncX1 type plasmids, respectively. Transconjugants (containing mcr-3, mcr-1&mcr-3) were obtained that were 64- and 512-fold higher than the minimum inhibitory concentration of colistin on the recipient bacteria (E. coli C600), respectively. The IncX1 plasmid containing mcr-3.1 displayed a very specific structure compared with previous mcr-3. Variable and stable regions were similar across different plasmids, multiple insertion sequences and transposases.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Epoxide hydrolase can regioselectively catalyze the oxirane ring-opening hydrolysis of rac-epoxides producing the corresponding chiral diols. In our laboratory, a gene named pveh1 encoding an EH from Phaseolus vulgaris was cloned. Although the directed modification of PvEH1 was carried out, the mutant PvEH1Y3 showed a limited degree of enantioconvergence towards racemic (rac-) m-chlorostyrene oxide (mCSO). RESULTS: PvEH1 and PvEH1Y3 were combinatively subjected to laboratory evolution to further enhance the enantioconvergence of PvEH1Y3 towards rac-mCSO. Firstly, the substrate-binding pocket of PvEH1 was identified using a CAVER 3.0 software, and divided into three zones. After all residues in zones 1 and 3 were subjected to leucine scanning, two E. coli transformants, E. coli/pveh1Y149L and /pveh1P184L, were selected, by which rac-mCSO was transformed into (R)-m-chlorophenyl-1,2-ethanediol (mCPED) having 55.1% and 27.2% eep. Secondly, two saturation mutagenesis libraries, E. coli/pveh1Y149X and /pveh1P184X (X: any one of 20 residues) were created at sites Y149 and P184 of PvEH1. Among all transformants, both E. coli/pveh1Y149L (65.8% αS and 55.1% eep) and /pveh1P184W (66.6% αS and 59.8% eep) possessed the highest enantioconvergences. Finally, the combinatorial mutagenesis was conducted by replacements of both Y149L and P184W in PvEH1Y3, constructing E. coli/pveh1Y3Z2, whose αS reached 97.5%, higher than that (75.3%) of E. coli/pveh1Y3. In addition, the enantioconvergent hydrolysis of 20 mM rac-mCSO was performed by E. coli/pveh1Y3Z2, giving (R)-mCPED with 95.2% eep and 97.2% yield. CONCLUSIONS: In summary, the enantioconvergence of PvEH1Y3Z2 was successfully improved by laboratory evolution, which was based on the study of substrate-binding pocket by leucine scanning. Our present work introduced an effective strategy for the directed modification of enantioconvergence of PvEH1.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: While progress has been made in defining the clinical and histopathologic features of high-risk cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (HRcSCC), optimal staging guidelines remain elusive. OBJECTIVE: We seek to guide clinical practice regarding nodal staging options for patients with HRcSCC via review of evolving definitions of HRcSCC, nodal staging options, and how nodal staging may impact treatment and affect outcomes. METHODS: This was a retrospective review of the published peer-reviewed literature regarding risk stratification, nodal staging, and treatment and outcomes for patients with HRcSCC via PubMed. RESULTS: For patients without clinical lymphadenopathy, based on literature from head and neck SCC, preoperative nodal staging with ultrasonography may be more useful than computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging. Early nodal disease is usually curable, and therefore obtaining a sentinel lymph node biopsy specimen may be considered in those with negative imaging while we await studies of nodal staging outcomes. LIMITATIONS: More data are needed to validate the relationships between primary tumor stage and sentinel lymph node biopsy status and to determine if early detection of nodal disease impacts survival for patients with HRcSCC. CONCLUSION: It is reasonable to consider nodal staging for patients with HRcSCC (Brigham and Women's Hospital stage T2b and T3) in the absence of clinically palpable lymphadenopathy via radiographic imaging and, if negative, sentinel lymph node biopsy.
