RESUMO

Although eating disorders are common, they tend to be underdiagnosed and undertreated because social stigma tends to make patients less likely to seek medical attention and less compliant with medical treatment. Diagnosis is crucial because these disorders can affect any organ system and are associated with the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric disorder. Because of this, imaging findings, when recognized, can be vital to the diagnosis and management of eating disorders and their related complications. The authors familiarize the radiologist with the pathophysiology and sequelae of eating disorders and provide an overview of the related imaging findings. Some imaging findings associated with eating disorders are nonspecific, and others are subtle. The presence of these findings should alert the radiologist to correlate them with the patient's medical history and laboratory results and the clinical team's findings at the physical examination. The combination of these findings may suggest a diagnosis that might otherwise be missed. Topics addressed include (a) the pathophysiology of eating disorders, (b) the clinical presentation of patients with eating disorders and their medical complications and sequelae, (c) the imaging features associated with common and uncommon sequelae of eating disorders, (d) an overview of management and treatment of eating disorders, and (e) conditions that can mimic eating disorders (eg, substance abuse, medically induced eating disorders, and malnourishment in patients with cancer). RESUMO

Peripheral arterial and venous examinations are performed regularly in vascular labs and interpreted by physicians of different specialities. Many vascular examinations have nonvascular pathology that is either inadvertently imaged by the sonographer or imaged with intent as it relates to patient's symptoms. It is prudent for every reader of vascular studies to be acquainted with the sonographic appearance of these non-vascular lesions to enable appropriate and optimal interpretation that has a direct bearing on patient's clinical care. Our review includes a discussion of the nonvascular pathologies like lymph nodes, soft tissue edema, soft tissue fluid collections, musculotendinous injuries, soft tissue masses, and joint and bursal pathologies that may be encountered during interpretation of vascular exams. The pictorial essay includes a discussion of their sonographic appearances and pitfalls in interpretation. Multiple illustrative examples and sonographic images of the non-vascular pathologies found during interpretation of vascular studies have been utilized to highlight their appearances.

RESUMO

Circular RNAs (circRNAs), forming a covalently closed loop, are identified as a special subgroup of non-coding RNAs. Herein, we investigated the function and underlying mechanism of circXRCC5, generated from the XRCC5 gene, in glioma progression. Bioinformatics analysis was employed to determine the genomic information of circXRCC5 derived from XRCC5 pre-mRNA. Quantitative real-time PCR was conducted to examine the expression of circXRCC5 in glioma tissues and cells. Stable knockdown of circXRCC5 in U87 and U251 cells was established to assess its' biological functions. Cell Counting Kit-8, EdU incorporation, flow cytometry and transwell assay were performed to evaluate cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration and invasion, respectively. The circRNA-miRNA-mRNA regulatory network was verified using luciferase reporter assay and RNA immunoprecipitation. The samples were subjected to CHIP to ascertain the transcriptional regulation of XRCC5 at the promoter region of CLC3. Up-regulation of circXRCC5 was observed in glioma tissues and cell lines, and indicated poor prognosis of glioma patients. Knockdown of circXRCC5 suppressed cell proliferation, migration and invasion, while facilitated apoptosis. Mechanistically, circXRCC5 acted as a molecular sponge for miR-490-3p in a sequence-specific manner. There was a reciprocal negative feedback between circXRCC5 and miR-490-3p in an Argonaute2-dependent manner. Moreover, circXRCC5 acted as a sponge of miR-490-3p to regulate the expression of downstream target gene XRCC5, thus activating the transcription of CLC3, which fostered the progression of glioma. Collectively, circXRCC5 promoted glioma progression via the miR-490-3p/XRCC5/CLC3 ceRNA network, providing a novel prognostic biomarker and a prospective target for glioma treatment.

RESUMO

PM2.5 pollution has produced adverse effects all over the world, especially in fast-developing China. PM2.5 pollution in China is widespread and serious, which has aroused widespread concern of the government, the public and scholars. This paper evaluates the evolution trend and spatial pattern of PM2.5 pollution in China based on the data of 281 prefecture-level cities in China from 2007 to 2017, and reveals the pollution situation of PM2.5 and its relationship with industrial restructuring and technological progress by using spatial dynamic panel model. The results show that China's PM2.5 pollution has significant path dependence and spatial correlation, and the industrial restructuring and technological progress have significant positive effects on alleviating PM2.5 pollution. As a decomposition item of technological progress, technical change effectively alleviates PM2.5 pollution. Another important discovery is that the interaction between industrial restructuring and technological progress will aggravate PM2.5 pollution. Finally, in order to effectively improve China's air quality, while advocating the Chinese government to pursue high-quality development, this paper puts forward a regional joint prevention mechanism.

RESUMO

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: The traditional Chinese medicine Sanweidoukou decoction (DK-3) was a classical formula for the treatment of nervous system diseases, recorded in the Chinese medical classic Sibu Yidian. AIM OF THE STUDY: The present study is aim to investigate the neuroprotective effects of DK-3 on ß-amyloid (Aß) protein -induced AD-like pathologies and underlying molecular mechanisms both in vitro and in vivo studies. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Hydrolysates of DK-3 were analyzed by LC-ESI-MS/MS. In vitro, MTT was utilized to examine effects of DK-3 on Aß25-35-induced cytotoxicity in PC12 cells. In vivo, male Sprague-Dawley rats were administered with Aß25-35 to induce AD-like pathologies and behavioral evaluations were conducted via Morris water maze (MWM) test. Histopathological changes were observed by Hematoxylin-eosin (HE) straining. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) was used to detect the tau hyperphosphorylation at Thr181 site. The expression levels of tau hyperphosphorylation, inflammation-related cytokines such as COX-2, iNOS, TNF-α, IL-1ß, IL-6, the phosphorylated state of various mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling molecules (p38 MAPK, ERK, and JNK) and activation of nuclear factor κB (NF-κB) in vitro and in vivo were assessed via Western blot. RESULTS: In vitro, DK-3 dose-dependently increased cell viability of PC12 cells induced by Aß25-35. In vivo, DK-3 improved learning and memory abilities of Aß25-35-induced AD-like rats. Moreover, DK-3 reversed hyperphosphorylation of tau and reduced the production of inflammation-related cytokines through significantly inhibited MAPK and NF-κB signaling pathways both in vitro and in vivo studies. CONCLUSION: The present study suggested that the traditional Chinese medicine DK-3 may play a role in preventing and treating AD by reducing the hyperphosphorylation of tau protein and the expressions of inflammation-related cytokines via modulating the MAPK/NF-κB signaling pathways.

RESUMO

School socioeconomic status (SES) is studied primarily as a variable to explain academic achievement; however, few previous studies have investigated how SES can influence individual student's academic achievement. The present study used a national representative sample of 10,784 grade 7 to 9 students (53.2% boys and 46.8% girls) in mainland China to examine the links between school SES and students' math and Chinese achievements, including the math and Chinese teacher-student relationships as mediating factors. The parents provided family socioeconomic information and the students reported on their teacher-student relationships. Achievements in math and Chinese were assessed using standardized tests. Multilevel mediation analyses revealed that school SES was positively related to students' math and Chinese achievements. Moreover, the link between school SES and students' math achievement was partially mediated by students' perception of the math teacher-student relationship. The Chinese teacher-student relationship had no mediating effect. This study indicated that school SES can influence individual student's academic achievement via their perception of teacher-student relationship. The poverty and lack of resources is obvious, yet low SES schools could make efforts in improving teacher-student relationship's quality to promote students' academic performance. Meanwhile, low SES schools should receive more attention from policymakers to improve teaching quality and school climate. Furthermore, the study findings could be used for future research on the gap between low and high SES schools.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Perceptions of school safety have an important effect on students' development. Based on the model of "context-process-outcomes," we examined school safety as a context variable to explore how school safety at the school level affected students' self-esteem. METHODS: We used hierarchical linear modeling to examine the link between school safety at the school level and students' self-esteem, including school liking as a mediator. The data were from the National Children's Study of China (NCSC), in which 6618 fourth- to fifth-grade students in 79 schools were recruited from 100 counties in 31 provinces in China. RESULTS: Multilevel mediation analyses showed that the positive relationship between school safety at the school level and self-esteem was partially mediated by school liking, controlling for demographics at both student and school levels. Furthermore, a sex difference existed in the multilevel mediation model. For boys, school liking fully mediated the relationship between school safety at the school level and self-esteem. However, school liking partially mediated the relationship between school safety at the school level and self-esteem among girls. CONCLUSION: School safety should receive increasing attention from policymakers because of its impact on students' self-esteem.
